Did Chiwenga Really Pay The Money?

By Own Correspondent| Below is the latest statement by the widow of the late cyclist Abel Muchenje whose body has been stuck in Belgium for several weeks. Mrs Lynnette Mlambo Muchenje, spoke yesterday a day after a news article came out saying that Vice President Constantino Chiwenga has paid her 10,000.

Lynette Mlambo, was said to have confirmed the assistance from VP Chiwenga on Friday.

The article claimed she said had it not been for the assistance, her husband would have been buried as a pauper in a foreign country.

But Mrs Muchenje denied all saying, “what we are trying to explain is that we were never given the money. We went to Harare two weeks ago and never saw, let alone hear about the vice president.

“After, the Foreign Affairs said they could not help us, we went to see Reverend Msindo and he is the one who talked to the Governor. The Governor said he was going to send money straight to the mortuary’s account. If ever that money was transferred it must have gone straight to the mortuary not to us.

“On Friday I was running around looking for the outstanding balance of $1500 which was needed so that the body can be repatriated. If we were given the money I was not going to be looking for more money. Anyway, if they help you financially the money is always deposited directly to the account and in this case the mortuary never confirmed that they received that kind of money. This was on Friday and I never talked to any journalist whatsoever.

‘The same Friday we had a church service at the house so no one contacted us.”

Muchenje and Mlambo got married in June last year and the couple was in the in the process of applying for a visa so she could join him in Belgium.

Vice President Chiwenga’s office has however reported that they have paid the money, the original journo told ZimEye. – MORE TO FOLLOW…
