Presidential Spokesperson and Information, Broadcasting and Media Services Permanent Secretary George Charamba has said the State broadcaster ZBC must desist from forcing citizens who reside in areas without radio and television transmission to pay licences.

Addressing stakeholders at a Zim Digital Workshop in Chiredzi last week, Charamba said ZBC should not force citizens to pay radio and television licences without receiving transmission.

“People should not be forced to pay radio and television licences. I can tell you that there are many areas that have poor transmission,” said Charamba.

“We expect all communities to be served by ZBC and those who are not receiving standard transmission cannot be expected to pay radio and television licences,” added Charamba.
