Aspiring MDC Alliance MP for Mberengwa North Takavafira Zhou has alleged that Zanu PF aspiring Parliamentarian for the same constituency, Tafanana Zhou is forcing traditional leaders to campaign for the ruling party.

Below is Takavafira Zhou’ s statement:

In typical Zanu PF fashion, incumbent ruling party MP Tafanana Zhou is using traditional leaders to campaign for Zanu PF in Mberengwa North.

Tafanana has over the past days called village heads to gather at the chiefs’ homesteads to be ordered to campaign for him and his political party, Zanu PF

In Chief Mapiravana’s area, the meeting was held at Mabika three days ago, while in Chief Mazivofa’s area, the meeting was held two days ago.

Headmen under Chief Bvute met in Bvute area while those under Chief Mposi met at the the chief’s homestead.

Fundamentally traditional leaders are non-partisan but custodians of culture.

It is therefore nauseating for an incumbent MP to force chiefs to call all the headmen under their jurisdiction and order them to go and campaign for a political party, let alone order them to ensure that people under their jurisfiction vote for Zanu PF in the forthcoming harmonised elections.

Several headmen expressed their displeasure at the MP’s abuse of traditional leaders.
