“Khupe Is Patriotic And Not Desperate”: Gutu

By Own Correspondent| Obert Gutu, Vice President of the breakaway faction of the MDC T led by Dr Thokozani Khupe has said his leader’s attendance at President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s inauguration was driven by patriotism and not desperation as purported within certain sections of society.

Gutu said the Khupe led MDC-T wants the country to move forward hence their attendance should not be misconstrued as desperation.

Said Gutu in an interview with a local publication:

“We want the country to move forward and soon after the elections president Khupe gave a speech to say that elections are over and some of us are busy straightening our party structures.

Whatever we do or whatever we say, we should put Zimbabwe first and that is what drives us.

To start with we are not desperate, Khupe is not desperate and myself I am not desperate and we have been in government and Parliament before.

This (attendance) was just out of patriotism. We are not desperate at all.”

Newsday reports that Khupe’s party was the only opposition party at Mnangagwa’s inauguration.
