By Paul Nyathi|Reports from the capital indicate that #tajamuka social movement leader Promise Mkhwananzi was arrested late Friday afternoon by a heavily armed combination of police and army details.

ZimEye.com sources who witnessed the abduction or arrest, said Mkhwananzi was picked up at the media centre in Harare shortly after giving a press statement on the harassment of vendors by the police and the soldiers in Harare that led to violent clashes between the two parties on Thursday.

On the same day Mkhwananzi reported on his social media platforms that he had been summoned by police after the clashes between security forces and the vendors.

Speaking at the press conference, Mkhwananzi told reporters that he was going to be handing himself to the police in the company of his lawyers on Monday not aware that the police were actually minutes away from taking him away.

It is not yet clear what he is being charged with nor where the police took him too. ZimEye.com is keeping watch on the matter.
