Terrence Mawawa|Residents of the city of Masvingo have threatened to stage mass protests at the city council promises to force the local authority to address the water crisis in the ancient city.

Some suburbs in the city of Masvingo have gone for three weeks without running water- posing a serious health hazard.

Masvingo Residents’ Trust Coordinator Ephraim Mutombeni told ZimEye.com in an interview yesterday the residents were grappling with the deepening water crisis and the city council was reluctant to address the critical issue.

“The city is facing a potential health hazard and as concerned residents we will stage mass protests at the Civic Centre( the city council premises) to force the local authority to resolve the matter,” said Mutombeni.

“Council officials claim they are failing to raise the sum of $ 4000 required to service the water pump yet they are buying posh vehicles, it really defies logic. We demand to know how they are using the money that we give them every month,” said Mutombeni.
