Correspondent|A former Zimbabwe Republic Police Officer was found with more than $200 000 in his car after he was involved in a head-on collision at the 76km peg along Masvingo – Chivhu Road on Monday last week.
The police officer died in the accident, as well as a woman who was a passenger in his car.
The deceased officer was identified as Philip Mutsambi and was working in Guruve at the time of his death.
The Masvingo Mirror reports that the accident was caused by an overtaking error and Officer Mutsambi died together with a woman who was a passenger in his car.
Mash East police spokesperson Inspector Tendai Mwanza confirmed the accident which killed two people. It is reported that $200 000 bond notes were recovered from Mutsambi’s car at the scene of the accident.
Mutsambi was driving towards Harare when he tried to overtake two vehicles. Whilst he was overtaking, he saw an oncoming vehicle and tried to avoid a head-on collision by veering off to the right side of the road.
The oncoming motorist also veered off to his left side and the two motor vehicles had a head-on collision. Mutsambi and his passenger died on spot. Two other people who were injured were rushed to Chivhu General Hospital.
