Own Correspondent|The government has warned that it will arrest owners of fuel filing stations that are over charging on fuel or demanding foreign currency for fuel.
According to government the regulated maximum cost of petrol should not be more than $7 per litre.
The warnings came about after reports that some service stations were charging close to $8 for fuel. The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has since said that it has not approved any fuel increase.
Posting updates following a cabinet meeting, the Ministry of Information said,
“Cabinet has resolved that it is unacceptable to sell fuel at as high as $7 per litre. Minister Fortune Chasi has met players and warned them that this behaviour is not acceptable and ZERA will be out in full force enforcing the law.”
…It is unacceptable for fuel players to insist on USD payments only. That is not compliant with their licences. Remedial action will be taken..”
