ARTUZ Declares Incapacitation Due To Economic Hardships

Jane Mlambo| Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe, ARTUZ members have declared incapacitation to live and work.

In a letter to the Public Service Commission, PSC, dated 26 June 2019 ARTUZ stated that they can no longer afford food stuffs, to pay rentals, transport, water, medical bills, electricity bills and other essential services.

“Most teachers can not afford to send their children to boarding schools even if some teach at these schools.

“We stated that with effect from today, 27th of June 2019 teachers based in rural areas that are members of ARTUZ will only attend work two days of the week.

“We feel for the children we teach but we are now at a precarious position where we are not able to meet our basics even to eat.

“We are appealing to our employer the Government to give us a living wage that will allow us to stand in a classroom fed and with dignity.”
