Farai D Hove| All seemed not well for the businessman Wicknell Chvayo as the Zimbabwe Power Company Board Chair, Stanley Kazhanje was sentenced to three years in prison.
He was convicted for accepting a US$10 000 bribe Intratek Zimbabwe managing Director, Wicknell Chivhayo.
The ex-convict allegedly paid the bribe to influence Kazhanje’s decisions in the Gwanda multimillion-dollar Solar project which is still to commence since 2016.
Two years were suspended on condition of good behaviour.
The State, represented by prosecutor Brian Vito pressed the magistrate for a stiffer penalty.
Vito said: “The penalty of corruption usually attracts a custodial sentence and if the court act otherwise the general impression will remain that Zimbabwe accepts corruption.”
The magistrate was mum concerning Chivayo as a person.
