HIGHLANDERS are left with few slots for the 2020 season having retained the bulk of the players that did duty in the 2019 season.

They lost five players – Denzel Khumalo to FC Platinum, McClive Phiri who joined South African side Bidvest Wits, Peter Nyirenda who returned to Zambia and Ben Musaka and Munyaradzi Chitambwe who left the club.

Mbekezile Sibanda and Ariel Sibanda’s future with the club hangs in the balance.

Mbekezile is yet to start training while Ariel has a pending foreign deal.

“The team has lost five players and two other vacant places that were there from last season.

We had 28 players registered for the 2019 season.

“We have seven vacant to be filled. Mbekezile communicated with the club and is expected to join others soon.

“Ariel is not sure yet, he is waiting for his outside move. The team has only five slots to be filled and the team will be finalised this week.

“The coach is set to recommend the players he want us to release and the ones we should take onboard too.

“But as it stands we have the bulk of the team,” said a source at Barbourfields.

Bosso have been linked to the trio of Mkhokeli Dube, Michelle Katsvairo and Obadiah Tarumbwa.

New head coach Mark Harrison has shown satisfaction on the trio saying they have impressed.

“We are looking at the possibility (of signing them) but until a deal is sealed, we can’t say much. I am happy with their performance so far, they are performing very well and working quite hard indeed,” said Harrison.
