Tanzania President Pombe Magufuli.
Paul Nyathi|Dennis Onyango, the spokesman of Kenyan ODM party leader Raila Odinga, has sent a chilling warning to Tanzanians over the COVID-19 pandemic.
Onyango said Tanzania, which still remains lockdown-free in the wake of Coronavirus outbreak, will soon be reporting massive cases of the deadly virus, just like the United States of America.
In a tweet on Thursday night, he pointed an accusing finger at President Pombe Magufuli, saying his strange behaviour in the face of COVID-19 would result into Tanzania becoming a graveyard.
Onyango said Magufuli, just like US’s President Donald Trump, has discarded science and decided to play politics with the disease which has killed over 145,000 people across the world.
“As it (COVID-19) has disorganized Donald, so will it disorganize Pombe. No eccentric leader is going to help his country out of Coronavirus. Only authentic leaders will. You play politics with science, you lose,” he posted.
Tanzania, which confirmed its first case three weeks ago, on Thursday recorded 11 Coronavirus infections, raising the country’s tally to 94.
The East African nation has already registered 4 deaths and 11 recoveries.
Magufuli has strongly refused to ban gatherings in places of worship arguing thats where true healing can be found.
On Thursday, he declared three national days of prayer so that Tanzanians can seek divine intervention over the highly contagious virus.
However, opposition leader Zitto Zuberi Ruyagwa Kabwe has urged citizens to adhere to directives issued by health professionals, and avoid gatherings such as churches and crusades.
“My fellow Tanzanians, due to COVID-19 I urge you to continue to avoid gatherings, wash your hands with soap and water regularly and follow health advice by professionals. God will hear us if we do our best to protect ourselves from infection,” Kabwe tweeted on Thursday.
