Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) Secretary General Robson Chere has been summoned to appear before Harare Magistrates Court on charges of participating in a gathering with an intention to incite public violence.

Posting on Facebook, Chere said;

I was summoned to appear in Court today together with ARTUZ Mashonaland West Provincial Chairperson Munyaradzi Ndawana , Lawyer Doug Coltart , Precious Ndlovu and Jessica Drury , being charged with participating in a gathering with the intention of inciting public violence. The Charge emanates from last year were i was abducted on 27 April 2019, by about 10 men in plain clothes suspected to be Central Intelligence agents who illegally forced themselves into a private property without a search warrant, in Greystone park Harare and found us discussing Paulo Freire book titled “Pedagogy of the Opressed”.
Our workshop materials were placed in a white Toyota Rev Reg number 7066.

And we were dumped at a Central Intelligence Organisation building in Harare where myself and Ndawana were physically tortured while Jessica and Precious were psychologically manipulated for several hours before being handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department Law and Order .

Having risked the COVID19 by attending Court during the Lockdown I witnessed a lot of confusion and chaos at court . The Court didn’t even have our record so we ended up not appearing in court. We were then just advised by the prosecutor to come back on 29 May.
