The Treasurer General of the opposition MDC Alliance, David Coltart has claimed that he was told that the arrest of Hopewell Chin’cono on Monday was being opposed by a faction in the ruling ZANU PF.

Chin’ono was arrested after he exposed corruption by government officials and departments. Posting on social media following Chin’ono’s arrest, Coltart said:

I’ve just been informed by a reliable source that @daddyhope is safe & that this is being done by one faction of the government, but it’s an action not supported by others in authority. No prizes for guessing which part of the regime is hurt by his revelations.
