Things You Didn’t Know About The Late Shiri’s Successor Anxious Jongwe Masuka

Following the death of retired Air Marshal Perrance Shiri, who was the Minister of Land, Agriculture, Water and Rural Resettlement Minister, President Mnangagwa has appointed Dr Anxious Jongwe Masuka as the new Agriculture Minister. The Update was posted by the Information Ministry’s secretary Nick Mangwana in a memo that reads:


His Excellency the President, Cde Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, 505, 115 terms of Section 104 Ill and (3) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment (No. 201 Act 2013. appointed Dr. Anxious Jongwe Masuka. as Minister of Lands. Agnculture, Water and Rural Resettlement. Dr Masuka’s appointment follows the death last month of the former Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Water and Rural Resettlement, Air Chief Marshal (Rtd) Perrance Shirt. A Founding Fellow of the Zimbabwe Academy of Sciences in 2004, Dr Masuka holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) Degree in Agriculture majoring in Crop Science from the University of Zimbabwe which he obtained in 1988, as well as Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Zimbabwe which he obtained in 1993.

Dr Masuka has a very Impressive professional record which beg, in the teaching field as a lecturer at the University of Zimbabwe, in the Department of Biological Sciences as well as at the, Zimbabwe College of Forestry between 1989 and 1995 Thereafter, his employment history follows a career path in the agricultural sector. His footprin. are found at the following Institutions, the Forestry Commission where he was Senior Research Officer between 1988 and 199, and the Tobacco Research Board where he served in various capacities rising through the ranks from Senior Plant Pathologist, Head ofthe Bio-Services Department, to General Manager from 1995 to 2012.

His star kept rising to senior executive positions becoming Chief Operating Officer and Executive Director at Ariston Holdings between 2013 and 2014, before moving on to the Zimbabwe Agricultural Society as its Chief Executive Officer from 2015 to the present. Dr Masuka has cumulatively sat on over 30 Boards and Associations from 1991 to the present including the following: Tobacco Industry Advisory Council; Zimbabwe Seed Trade Association; Agricultural Research Council; National Economic Consultative Forum; International Mycological Association; and University Councils. Including as Chairman of the University of Zimbabwe Council.

He has been involved in consultory work to OroJec. In fields of agriculture, forestry, environment, public health and rural development both here in Zimbabwe, in the SADC region and beyond. He is credited with innumerable publications to his name including books, technical handbooks, journals, conference papers, topical publications and book chapters in Agnculture and related disciplines. His appointment to the Ministerial portfolio takes immediate effect.
