By A Correspondent- In an exclusive interview with ZimEye, incarcerated Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume’s lawyer revealed the real reason why his client was denied bail after spending the weekend in custody.

Mafume was arrested last week over alleged corruption where he reportedly corruptly parcelled out residential plots of land, including to his sister, when he was a city councillor in 2010.

Said Mafume’s lawyer:

“… he has been denied bail. Basically the court was of the view that if released on bail, Mr Mafume is likely to interfere with the evidence and the state witnesses who are people who are still working within council. So that is the long and short of it. So I have received instructions from my client to file for an appeal at the High Court. So we are working on the conscription of the court record so that we can file our appeal.as soon as possible. Basically that is the only reason that the court has used.”
