By Jane Mlambo| Opposition MDC Alliance vice President Tendai Biti has apologized over his stereotypical remarks in which he insinuated that Chipinge people practice withcraft.

Biti torched storm when he responded to National Constitutional Assembly (NCA) leader Professor Lovemore Madhuku’s tweet in which he was defending his position that Section 96(2) of the constitution did not apply to the current vice presidents but running mates.

Madhuku’s views attracted violent rebuttal from another constitutional law expert Alex Magaisa, Professor Jonathan Moyo and Advocate Tabani Mpofu who said the University of Zimbabwe law professor was wrong in his interpretation of the clause.

Biti joined in a day later saying Madhuku was wrong while describing his legal interpretation as witchcraft while adding a line where he said the NCA leader was from Chipinge which is stereotypically associated with witchcraft.

Biti has since posted a thread where he apologizes for his tweet saying it was wrong for him to share things they say to each other in jest.

“In conclusion & for the avoidance of doubt I regret my tweet with Lovemore and am sorry for its pub stereotype banter. I have known Madhuku for years & we have shared a life together in 3 different spheres. It was mistake to share things that are privately said in jest. Zikomo,” said Biti.
