Kylian Mbappé has taken full responsibility for his disappointing performances since joining Real Madrid, following another shock defeat for the club.

The 25-year-old’s frustrations were evident after he missed yet another penalty, just one week after his earlier miss in Madrid’s dismal 2-0 loss to Liverpool in the Champions League.

This time, Mbappé’s penalty was easily saved by Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Julen Agirrezabala, with the spot-kick coming when Madrid were already trailing by a goal. To make matters worse, Mbappé also squandered a clear goal-scoring opportunity when Jude Bellingham squared the ball to him, only for the Frenchman’s weak shot to be comfortably collected by the keeper.

The reigning LaLiga and Champions League champions slipped further behind in the title race with a 2-1 defeat to Athletic Bilbao, and Mbappé’s inability to convert chances was again a major issue.

In his 90-minute appearance, Mbappé was again deployed on the left wing by Carlo Ancelotti in place of the injured Vinícius Júnior. However, unlike his Brazilian counterpart, Mbappé struggled to make an impact and was kept in check by the Bilbao defense.
