Barely 24 hours after he caused an international embarrassment for the entire Zimbabwean nation, Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa is not giving up.
The VP has set his eyes on Europe to seek what he says are potential investors.
The move comes amid revelations that his trip to China brought no single additional investor to Zimbabwe after he also smashed into numerous publicity accidents.
He attempted to ward off the shame from his television stripper by saying this time he will speak with “more vigour”.
“I am also going to Europe on Friday to attract huge companies to come and invest…I will be able to speak with vigour (after touring the Sunway City Integrated Park) and clarity and attract major companies to come to Zimbabwe,” said Mnangagwa.
While his office communicated no further details, the State Media quoted him saying he is definitely headed for Europe.
Reports at the end of day Wednesday suggested the destination is likely Belgium where ZANU PF has been given sanctions concessions. Another source said he is likely to visit Europe’s engineering hub Germany as well.
The European Union’s sanctions on Robert Mugabe, Mnangagwa and others are still in place despite a few names being dropped and so for one to travel, a special waiver has to be obtained.
When Mnangagwa revealed this he was speaking soon after touring the Sunway City Integrated Park near Ruwa. He said his intended visit to Europe was part of government’s drive to attract investors into the country.
The VP added that he has agreed with Minister of Industry and Commerce Mike Bimha Bimha to hold an International Investment Conference in October where huge global companies are scheduled to attend and explore investment opportunities in the country.
