A woman has died at a roadblock after the kombi she was travelling in was detained by cops.
Cecilia Mapako (19) , died in Nyanga on Monday as she was on her way to a hospital to seek medical attention. The kombi she was in was detained for over an hour after the driver was asked to pay a $15 spot fine and failed to do so. Cecilia'[s husband, Lazarus Sakubende, who is a commuter omnibus conductor, said his wife had a heart condition.“My wife had been referred to Parirenyatwa Hospital in Harare from Regina
Coeli Mission Hospital, which is where they were headed. “We took her in the commuter omnibus to Nyanga, where she was supposed to be taken to Harare by her brother,” Sakubende said.
Sakubende said they were detained at this roadblock for nearly an hour, as they failed to pay the required money. It was during this period that Cecilia’s condition deteriorated before passing on at the roadblock.
Sakubende said after the death of his wife Cecilia, police office manning the roadblock informed the Nyanga office about the incident and they brought a metal coffin to take the body to a mortuary.
Sakubende said he was very upset, as they had pleaded with the police officers to let them go so his wife could get urgent medication, but all was in vain – State Media
