Sex workers in Masvingo are appealing to the government to legalise the termination of unwanted pregnancies.

Sex workers in the ancient city told a local community radio station yesterday they were being forced by their clients to indulge in unprotected sex resulting in unwanted pregnancies.

The sex workers urged the government to legalise abortion to avoid unwanted pregnancies.

“Whether abortion has been legalised or not, many sex workers are terminating unwanted pregnancies. So we appeal to the government to lift the blanket ban on abortion,” said one sex worker.

“We are being forced to have unprotected sex with our clients and this leads to unwanted pregnancies,” said another sex worker.
