By Own Correspondent| President Emmerson Mnangagwa has defended the ZEC conduct ahead of the forthcoming polls arguing that the elections body was not birthed by Zanu Pf hence the party did not dictate its conduct.

Addressing thousands of party supporters at Mutare Aerodrome (Friday), Mnangagwa said it was surprising that only one party was complaining about the ZEC despite that the elections body was conducting itself professionally.

Said Mnangagwa:

“There was a party called MDC T which was led by the late Morgan Tsvangirai and now there is one called MDC Alliance led by Nelson Chamisa and another one called MDC T led by Thokozani Khupe.

The Alliance led by Chamisa is the one that is complaining and complaining. Saying ZEC has done what. What has happened to the voters roll. What has it done.

No. ZEC is a creation of the Constitution of the Republic of Zimbabwe, it is not a creation of Zanu.

ZEC was created by parliament and the parliamentary committee which chose ZEC was co-chaired by Chamisa.”

Chamisa is on record calling on ZEC to walk the talk on being a neutral referee in the forthcoming election by ensuring a free and fair election.

The Alliance staged a peaceful demonstration in Harare where the party handed over a petition to the ZEC compelling the elections body to avail an auditable voters roll and allow political parties to monitor the printing of the ballot.

However, the ZEC has revealed that it’s conduct is above board since it is operating within the confines of the law.

“We follow the law and our conduct is guided by the law,” Justice Chigumba is on record saying.
