By Own Correspondent| Spokesperson for the opposition National Patriotic Front (NPF) Jelousy Mawarire has scoffed at claims made by leader of the other NPF faction, Ambrose Mutinhiri that the party has been dissolved and that its members will be rejoining Zanu-PF.

Mutinhiri insists that he is still the party president although the party insist that he was fired in June for setting up parallel structures and not attending party meetings.

Said Mutinhiri in a statement:

“We the founders, leaders and supporters of the NPF hereby inform the nation of Zimbabwe that the NPF has disbanded with immediate effect from September 19, 2018.

The main reason for disbanding the party is that NPF has outlived its purpose. NPF was formed as a response to the events and circumstances of November 2017 that led to the removal of the previous Government of Zimbabwe and in our opinion we perceived it to be a threat to national security and stability…

As such we deem it expedient and appropriate to disband NPF and also to join and support the Zanu-PF party and Government in its endeavour to build a better Zimbabwe for all unity and loving and progressive Zimbabwe.”

However, responding to this, Mawarire said:

“Mutinhiri, as an individual, and Zanu-PF project during the elections is free to continue working for Zanu-PF and should not purport to be dissolving a party whose NEC he never chaired.

The NPF is a people’s movement and will remain a permanent feature of Zim politics…Mutinhiri should enjoy the small trinkets he was promised by Emmerson Mnangagwa when they met and stop pretending like he was still the leader of NPF.

It’s on record that the Party recalled him and didn’t support his gimmicks when he tried, and failed dismally, to run for the presidency.”
