Terrence Mawawa| Prominent businessman Mutumwa Mawere has said democratic space is being closed by the centralisation of power in the Office of the President.
Mawere has urged Zimbabweans to unite in a bid to come up with lasting solutions to the blatant violation of the Constitution by those in positions of influence.
“I believe standing on feet and not on my knees that centralizing power in the Office of any President undermines the promise and reality of the Rule of Law and Constitutionalism,” argued Mawere.
“I believe that the voice and space for the rule of law and constitutionalism should be louder now than never and that we have to speak frankly about the factors that are hindering national progress under President Mnangagwa’s leadership.”
Mawere added”: I believe that Zimbabweans share commitment to the rule of law, truth and the independence of criminal justice must transcend partisanship and the blind quest for state power that is not underpinned by an investment in values and principles that speak to the human spirit.”
