Engelbert Rugeje

Own Correspondent|Information just received indicates that ZANU PF leader President Emmerson Mnangagwa has summarily dismissed the party political commissar Engelbert Rugeje from his position.

Sources within the party indicated that Rugeje has been replaced by Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association secretary general Victor Matemadanda.

“Rugeje will leave the politburo in October. He had indicated that he would step-down after the elections. It has just been a matter of time,” a source said.

War veterans spokesperson Douglas Mahiya replaces Matemadanda in the former liberation war fighters association.

Critics claim that the removal of Rugeje who played a huge role in bringing down former President Robert Mugabe is a deliberate move by Mnangagwa to weaken his rival Vice President Costantino Chiwenga.

Rugeje is a very close ally of Chiwenga.
