By Dorrothy Moyo| Emmerson Mmangagwa on Wednesday afternoon scored his own goal again when the police issued a prohibition order barring the upcoming MDC demonstration in Mutare.

So far (in the space of 5 days) the police have banned Harare, Bulawayo, Gweru, Masvingo demos, one after the other, using the very same explanation, an allegation that they will turn violent in ways similar to the 1 August 2018 military shootings.

But none of that ever happened and the only violence seen came from the police, as in the case of the one in the capital city, Harare last Friday.

The Officer Commanding Mutare Central District on Wednesday issued a prohibition stopping the MDC Alliance demonstrations that were set for tomorrow.

Chief Superintendent Florence Marume said there was potential the demonstrations will turn violent. She cited previous such incidents she claimed were by the MDC Alliance in Mutare.

Meanwhile, the state media reported claiming “the business community in Mutare had also spoken against the demonstrations citing loss of business the last time the opposition party engaged in such activities.”

Mnangagwa based on the Constitutional Court Judgement of August 2018, claims that he is the winner of the 2018 elections contrary to what his opponent Nelson Chamisa says. But the verdict’s full report is still to be produced and state broadcast video evidence shows that Mnangagwa unleashed the military on 1 August to change election results. The development comes as further footage emerged of Mnangagwa announcing that his party is the army, the police, the airforce and “anything that you can imagine.”
