Following the sad passing on of veteran journalist and Secretary General of the Zimbabwe Union of Journalists (ZUJ) after a short illness, the media fraternity has plunged into mourning.
The Media Alliance of Zimbabwe (MAZ) described the late Dongozi as very supportive of journalists and pushed media industry issues to media owners and government.
He was quite openly supportive of journalists that ventured into leadership positions either in the industry as media owners or in governance in either Parliament or Cabinet and in other sectors so as to have media issues being discussed at high levels.
“Dongozi leaves a rich legacy around empowerment and providing incentives for journalists. He was among the brains that transformed the National Journalistic and Media Awards (Njama) to greater heights and for the occasion to be an annual key event on the media calendar,” MAZ said in a statement.
Young Journalists Association (YOJA) said Dongozi supported of young media professionals having their own union to push their issues.
“Foster was one of the many senior journalists who supported the idea of a union mainly for young media practitioners on our formation,” said YOJA.
