???????: Request for Official Inquiry into the Looting of Assets at Road Motor Services (RMS)

Dear Honourable Minister,

I write to formally request an urgent official inquiry into the massive looting and corruption scandal uncovered at Road Motor Services (RMS), a subsidiary of the National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ). As you are aware, Zim GBC News has reported that 22 heavy-duty trucks and other assets have been sold off as “scrap” under questionable circumstances since January 2024. These actions, allegedly under the management of Mr. Aaron Mahachi, have further compromised the operations of a struggling parastatal.

The gravity of this situation can not be overstated. The illegal sale of fully functional vehicles, including five heavy-duty trucks on 7 September 2024, is not only an act of gross negligence but also constitutes theft of public resources. I call upon your Ministry to:

  1. ??????????? ??????? ??. ????? ??????? and other implicated officials pending the outcome of the investigation.
  2. ?????? ?? ??????????? ???????
to thoroughly investigate the full extent of the looting, including identifying all individuals and companies involved.
  3. ??????? ??? ?????? ?????? and ensure that legal action is taken against those responsible.
  4. ????????? ???????? ????????? ?????????? within RMS and other parastatals to prevent future incidents of corruption and asset mismanagement.

The people of Zimbabwe deserve a transparent and accountable public sector that safeguards the resources meant for national development. I urge you to act swiftly in launching this inquiry and ensuring that justice is served.

I look forward to your prompt response and assurance that these necessary actions will be taken to uphold the integrity of Zimbabwe’s public institutions.

Yours sincerely,
Linda Tsungirirai Masarira
