An independent disciplinary committee appointed by the Premier Soccer League (PSL) has handed Highlanders (Bosso) a hefty fine and forfeit of their Chibuku Super Cup quarterfinal match against Simba Bhora.
The match, played last month, was abandoned after a contentious late penalty was awarded to Simba Bhora. Highlanders players and officials protested the decision, arguing the foul occurred outside the box, and subsequently left the pitch.
The DC found Highlanders guilty of contravening PSL regulations, resulting in:
- Forfeiture of the match to Simba Bhora (3-0 scoreline)
- $6,000 fine, with $4,000 suspended until the end of the season (conditional on good behavior)
The suspended fine will be reinstated if Highlanders are found guilty of any offense that brings the game into disrepute for the remainder of the season.
The disciplinary committee acknowledged poor refereeing standards and emphasized the need for improvement. The committee also recognized numerous complaints from league clubs regarding officiating.
Simba Bhora advances to the Chibuku Super Cup semifinals, while Highlanders face financial and competitive consequences.
The ruling underscores the PSL’s commitment to maintaining discipline and fair play in Zimbabwean football.
The decision serves as a cautionary tale for teams to uphold sportsmanship and respect for match officials’ decisions.
