Grace Mugabe Was Likely Framed By Mnangagwa Men

By Own Correspondent| A Daily News article alleging former First Lady Grace Mugabe has insulted her husband’s usurper, Emmerson Mnangagwa has been challenged for facts.

The Daily News article republished in Newsday, does not have a comment from the other side (Mrs Mugabe), and the journalist appears to have not cared a moment to grant the former First Lady a right to reply to the allegation.

An impeccable source who requested anonymity told ZimEye the supposed attack against farmers allegedly by Mrs Grace Mugabe is not true.

“Amai will soon offload her recorded evidence and the nation will see for themselves,” they said.

“How could Daily News rush to write an article on a person who is not in the country?” they asked.

The farm involved belongs to the former president’s son, Bellamine.

“This is not the first time the Daily News has done this. Ever since the family refused President Mugabe’s body to be buried at Heroes Acre this has been the norm.

“The only meeting that took place involved a group of men who descended onto the farm and they announced saying they have been sent by president Mnangagwa and (Agriculture Minister) Perrence Shiri.

“She simply replied them saying let us then go back to vaMnangagwa. Upon that moment they turned back and never returned,” the source said.

The Central Intelligence Organisation’s Director General Isaac Moyo reportedly knows the true story and he is “not fooled.”

Could the development be a direct attack on Bellamine so to punish him for recent statements he made on the instagram website saying, I will never invest a dollar in Zimbabwe for 5 years” ?

Govt Offers Food And ZUPCO Transport As Incentive To Bring Striking Doctors Back To Work

Health Minister Obadiah Moyo

State Media|Government and striking doctors will meet tomorrow to discuss a proposed package of improved working conditions that includes accommodation, transport and food, as authorities seek to bring normalcy to public hospitals where patients have endured poor service delivery for over 70 days.

Speaking at a post-Cabinet briefing in Harare yesterday, Health and Child Care Minister Dr Obadiah Moyo said the Government was working tirelessly to address the doctors’ concerns and had allocated money for the procurement of medicines to restock hospitals.

Dr Moyo said they were reviewing conditions of service with special focus on the provision of accommodation and transport for junior doctors.

“Government is still committed to dialogue with the striking doctors and a meeting has been scheduled for Thursday, 14th November, 2019,” he said.

“Government is working flat out to ensure availability of resources in health institutions and to improve the conditions of service for all health personnel.

“I want to assure them that we have ordered more medicines and Government has allocated money towards restocking of medicines at public hospitals to ensure proper health care service is provided to the people.”

Dr Moyo said the provision of institutional accommodation was being pursued to alleviate service delivery challenges in the short and long-term.

It was important for doctors to be accommodated at their work stations to cut transport costs.

“Government is in the process of identifying flats to ease accommodation challenges facing junior doctors and Zupco buses will be availed to ferry them to and from their work stations,” said Minister Moyo.

“Food will also be provided at their work stations while all the surgical materials will be availed in all the health institutions as required.

“We shall continue dialoguing and make sure we talk from the same direction. We have to talk to find solution.”

The strike by doctors over conditions of service has gone on for more than two months and a total of 322 disciplinary cases have so far been heard, with 286 doctors being fired for absenteeism.

The doctors insist that they are incapacitated to report for duty and are further demanding to have salaries set in US dollars with any payments in RTGS dollars to be done at the prevailing interbank rate.

Dr Moyo said the situation at Harare City Council clinics remained constrained after nurses went on strike citing “incapacitation”.

Only 35 out of the 104 nurses turned up for duty at the city’s five polyclinics.

“The nurses withdrew their labour over delayed salary payments and are refusing to resume duty even after receiving their salaries,” said Dr Moyo.

“The action by the nurses is illegal and the employer has been advised to commence disciplinary processes on the striking nurses in line with the country’s laws.

“Only those nurses reporting for duty will be paid while their conditions of service are being looked into.”

Council is offering limited services at polyclinics in Mabvuku, Tafara, Kuwadzana, Mufakose, Hatfield and Glen View.

Mnangagwa Promotes Retired Air Force Wing Commander To Group Captain

Wing Commander Frank Dube confirmed as Group Captain

State Media|President Mnangagwa has promoted Wing Commander Frank Dube to the rank of substantive Group Captain as he retires.

The effective date of promotion was May 9, 2019, and the new rank was conferred to him by Air Force of Zimbabwe (AFZ) Commander Air Marshal Elson Moyo at AFZ Headquarters in Harare yesterday.

Air Marshal Moyo applauded the senior AFZ officer for being exemplary, dedicated to duty and loyal during execution of national duties. “Promotion in the AFZ comes with hard work, and this promotion is a clear indication that you fought a good fight that requires reward,” he said.

“You were supposed to have been conferred your new rank in May, but this did not happen due to other commitments on national duties. May I take this opportunity to congratulate you for a job well done and wish you a pleasant retirement. I am reliably informed that you are going into farming, but, however, my words to you is to remain supportive to your fellow comrades who are still in active service.

“Remember a war veteran will not fully retire. Even as you go, be prepared to be assigned to other tasks that may arise in the nation, and you will be required to render your assistance in areas of need.”

Group Captain (Retired) Dube applauded President Mnangagwa and AFZ for showing confidence in him and promised to continue rendering his service in the air force and to the nation whenever need arises.

What’s Behind The Latest Fighting In Israel And What Will Happen Next? Expert Opinion

Opinion By Tom Rogan | Following Israel’s overnight killing of Palestinian Islamic Jihad commander Baha Abu al Ata, nearly 200 rockets have been fired from the Gaza Strip into southern Israel. So why did Israel kill al Ata, and what happens next?

The answer to the first question is quite simple. The head of the PIJ’s military wing, the Jerusalem Brigades, al Ata had made a name for himself as an increasingly aggressive, charismatic, and independently minded commander. Acting outside of the influence and intent of Hamas, the terrorist group in nominal control of the Gaza Strip, al Ata was determined to wage his own little war against Israel. Except, over the past 12 months, al Ata’s little war has become a lot bigger. Launching unprovoked rocket attacks on Israel against Hamas’ wishes, al Ata earned himself adoration as a bold leader unafraid to take the fight to the enemy. His ambition was significant and his threat commensurate.

It is possible that al Ata was even breaking against the directives of his own PIJ leadership. Notably, while another PIJ hard-liner in Damascus, Akram al Ajouri, was unsuccessfully targeted near simultaneously to the strike on al Ata, PIJ’s Secretary General Ziyad al Nakhalah was not targeted. Had Israel intended for this to be a full-scale war, they would have wanted to eliminate al Nakhalah with his subordinates. That they did not is suggestive of an Israeli intelligence assessment that the PIJ will gradually moderate once the current breakout of violence ends. Also indicating Israel’s desire to contain the violence is its reluctance, thus far, to launch major strikes against Hamas targets in Gaza. In addition, the Israelis seem to be targeting PIJ rocket teams more than fixed command facilities. Again, that is not war strategy.

What comes next?

The Egyptian government is once again embracing the role of mediator here. Having achieved its primary objective, Israel will be happy to return to a relative ceasefire. This interest will be further emphasized on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s part as he jockeys with the center-left’s Benny Gantz over which leader will form the next government. While Gantz appears to be making progress toward forming a new government in the aftermath of September elections, nothing is yet certain. And war makes everything uncertain.

Hamas has its own reasons to want to avoid further escalation. While it is obviously no fan of Israel, many of the group’s leaders will be quite (albeit very quietly) thankful for Israel. Getting rid of al Ata, the Israelis have served to consolidate Hamas’ narrative mantle as the supreme masters of the Palestinian resistance. They no longer have to deal with a charismatic upstart who made them look hesitant and too deferential to Israeli threats.

There is one final complication here: Iran. The PIJ’s patron, Iran now may decide to escalate against Israel with its other major proxy, the Lebanese Hezbollah. While this escalation is unlikely and Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah doesn’t want it, the risk cannot be ruled out. Iran’s recent behavior suggests it is ready to roll the dice against its adversaries.

Egypt Working To Calm Israel-Gaza Fighting, Germany Calls For Calm – Are We Heading For A World War?

Results of overnight bombings of Israel

Paul Nyathi|Egyptian officials said Cairo is attempting to de-escalate tensions in the Gaza Strip amid the worst bout of fighting there in recent months.

The officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorised to brief the media, said Egypt’s general intelligence agency has stepped up communications and has “opened channels” with the US and the European Union.

Egypt often acts as a mediator between Israel and Palestinian factions, and brokered a ceasefire deal in May.

Germany calls for end to violence

Germany condemned the bombardment of cities in Israel by rockets launched from the Gaza Strip, calling for de-escalation and saying there could be no justification for violence against innocent civilians.

“We condemn this rocket fire in the severest terms,” the German foreign ministry said in a statement.

“We call for restraint and for an end to the violence. We strongly support Egypt’s and the United Nations’ mediation efforts.”

Analysis: ‘Neither side wants a full-scale war’ Is That So?

Yonah Jeremy Bob, an intelligence, terrorism and legal analyst for The Jerusalem Post, said neither Israel nor the Palestinian group Islamic Jihad “will actually want a full-scale war at this point”.

“If both sides operate according to some unwritten rule about not striking beyond a certain amount, probably after a few days things will settle down as has happened a few times over the last year,” he told Al Jazeera via Skype from Modiin in central Israel.

Heavy Fighting Breaks Out In Israel As Arab – Israeli Tensions Move To A Full Scale War

Israel under heavy bombardment over night on Tuesday.

Paul Nyathi|On Tuesday, Israel was pounded by close to 200 rockets following the predawn targeted killing of Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) Leader Bahaa Abu Al-Ata at his home in the Gaza Strip. His wife was killed in the assassination, as well.

The IDF struck several terror targets in the Gaza Strip overnight, following a day of rocket fire from the terrorist enclave toward Israel.

“The IDF attacked several underground rocket launchers and elite launching stations, underground terrorist infrastructure and military forces of the Islamic Jihad terrorist organization,” an IDF statement explained.

Earlier in the evening, IDF aircraft attacked three terrorist operatives in the northern Gaza Strip after they launched rockets from Gaza into Israel.

“We are not interested in an escalation but we are ready – on the ground, in the air and at sea,” Kochavi said.

The military said that all the airstrikes in the first wave targeted PIJ underground facilities used for storage and manufacturing of weapons and training camps. These sites were critical facilities for the group which invested large sums of money to construct.

The second wave targeted training compounds, including one used by PIJ’s naval commando unit, the shaft of a cross-border attack tunnel and a tunnel digging site.

IDF tanks struck also two outposts and IAF jets also struck several PIJ militants preparing to launch long-range rockets.

Palestinian Wafa news agency said five Palestinians were killed and dozens injured in the retaliatory airstikes.

None of the retaliatory strikes carried out by Israel targeted Hamas, the group the IDF tends to strike following violence from the Strip. Earlier in the day defense officials said that if Islamic Jihad restrained itself and Hamas did not join the rocket fire, Israel would also hold back from escalating and carry out retaliatory strikes against Hamas.

Israel said that it targeted Al-Ata to stop his plans to carry out a series of attacks against Israeli civilians and IDF troops, including preparations for sniper and kidnapping attacks, armed drone attacks, and rocket fire throughout Israel.

“Terrorists think they can hit civilians and hide behind civilians,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said. “We showed that we can hit the terrorist with minimal damage to civilians. Anyone who thinks they can hit our civilians and get away with it is wrong. If you hit us we will hit you.”

Al-Ata, Kochavi said, was the man “who undermined the quiet in southern Israel” and who “acted in every way to sabotage attempts for calm with Hamas. He was a living ticking bomb, and up until today worked and planned attacks. He was responsible for the majority of attacks that took place over the past year.”

SA Parliamentarians Pay Tribute To Mugabe

The South African Parliament yesterday paid tribute to the late former President Robert Mugabe, describing him as an icon of the liberation of Africa.

The legislators said Zimbabwe should be allowed to solve its problems without the interference of external forces and illegal sanctions imposed on it by Western countries should be lifted.

Paying tribute to Mugabe, African National Congress (ANC) MP Joseph Maswanganyi said sanctions had done harm to the economy and people of Zimbabwe.

Mugabe died in Singapore on September 6 at the age of 95 and was declared a national hero before burial at his rural home in Zvimba, Mashonaland West Province, in line with his family’s wishes.

“Today we join the people of Zimbabwe under President Mnangagwa to call for the lifting of sanctions on Zimbabwe which have done more harm to the people and the economy of Zimbabwe,” Maswanganyi said.

“Our approach to this again would be guided by our principle that the problems of Zimbabwe will be solved by Zimbabweans themselves and through multilateral platforms like SADC and the African Union.”

Maswanganyi said the late former President Mugabe would be remembered for his bold step on land redistribution, which Zimbabwe is still severely paying for through Western-imposed sanctions.

EcoCash System Down On Sunday

EcoCash, which totally dominates mobile transactions, will go offline from 9pm on Saturday to 9pm on Sunday, due to a major upgrade.

EcoCash said the upgrade was meant to improve the mobile money platform’s performance by increasing capacity, enhancing security and offering more automated self-care services for its clients.

“The EcoCash system upgrade, for which critical work has been going on over the past several months, will commence on Saturday evening, and is scheduled to be completed on Sunday evening,” said a company spokesman.

“The upgrade will result in improved platform performance, increased system capacity, enhanced transaction security and many other enhancements to the current system.”

EcoCash handles millions of transactions per day, and is the largest mobile transacting platform in the country.

Billiat Donates To Former School

ZIMBABWE international Khama Billiat yesterday gave back to his former primary school, Gwinyiro, in Mufakose, when he donated a consignment worth R100 000.

The donation was made through his recently-launched Khama Billiat Foundation.

The goods contained soccer and netball kits, cones as well as sanitary pads.

The vision of the Foundation is “to contribute to society by positively impacting on the lives that matter.’’

Billiat, who flew in from Johannesburg with the members of his Foundation, first presented the goods to the school before joining the Warriors at their first session in the afternoon.

The diminutive forward started Grade 2 at Gwinyiro in 1998 having been at Marimba Primary in Grade One.

By the time he was in Grade Three, he was already playing for the school team.

In Grade 5, his brilliance caught Marc Duvillard’s attention who sent his manager from Lord Malvern to the parents with the offer to cater for Billiat’s school needs and fees.

And, by the time he was in Grade Six, Billiat was already boarding planes to feature in football tournaments with Aces Academy.

He was born at Mufakose Clinic on August 19 in 1990.

“I was giving back to the school that l went to. I brought some sanitary pads, soccer kits, netball kits,’’ said Billiat.

“It took long for me to do it, I don’t know why but I thought, maybe, I would do it with the Khama Billiat Foundation.
“It’s still new and we started it not so long ago.

“I found it proper for my team to fly this side and do it here while I am in camp. It is not about soccer only, we just want to try and help as much as we can.

“And, that includes the disadvantaged people and the disabled people.

“Everyone needs help but we should be honest with ourselves that there are some people who need help more than others.’’State media

“No To Command Lies”

Unfortunate comments laced with mendacity attributed to a 57 year old Pupurai Togarepi who happens to be a youth leader for a dying political party clearly shows that the old man is not in sync with realities of poverty and starvation facing the underpaid civil servants.

Without shame, Togarepi claims that industrial action by the poorly paid government workers stems from a hidden third hand that sponsors strikes.

Such a blue lie by a man who ideally is supposed to represent youths, of which 90% of workers are youths is quite regrettable, detestable and shameful.

It is crystal clear that Togarepi is lost.

There is an Eritrean proverb that says “if you don’t know where you are going, you are always on course” and the saying aptly fits Togarepi’s mental illusions as far as the national question is concerned.

The biggest tragedy facing Togarepi is that he is lost and is going to remain as such since he believes Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government is on the right course as far as issues to do with politics and economy are concerned.

Here is a man whose party officials had the audacity to even lie with a straight face that 01 August 2018 military killings were a result of a third force when in reality we saw soldiers in balaclavas firing live bullets on citizens in broad daylight.

Togarepi is the same man who made reckless utterances that there is a third hand in abductions when we all know that state agents were behind such ills!

Pupurai is the same man who gave false evidence to the effect that the MDC demonstrations are violent when we all know that the merchants of violence are ZANU PF implants!

Togarepi is a youth leader whose party deployee, Anslem Sanyatwe lied under oath that soldiers who butchered civilians on 01 August 2018 where shooting at 45% angle!

For avoidance of doubt Togarepi is the same man whose President moves around wearing a scarf in scotching heat wanting us to believe that it is cold when in actual sense the country is burning literally and metaphorically.

Now the same man want us to believe we are that gullible to extend of buying a narrative that civil servants are being sponsored by a third hand to undertake industrial action when we all know these hard working citizens are getting peanuts from government.

What is very clear is that Togarepi’s party and President have failed and the most unfortunate part is that they believe their own lies.

Simply put, Mnangagwa’s military dictatorship thrives on serial lies and blame shifting!

Chibaya Appeals For Unity In MDC Structures

Masvingo Province held it’s provincial executive which was addressed by the party’s national organising secretary Hon Amos Chibaya.
Wherever there are two or three people there are definitely bound to be perceived conflicts.

The national organiser using vast experience in politics navigated the terrain of conflict resolution to try and mend relations emanating from perceived post congress conflicts.

It was indeed an open discussion between the executive and the national organiser and the meeting come up with solutions which are meant to move the province forward.

The organiser reiterated the need to call ‘again’ for those still outside the provincial executive to be given another chance for the sake of moving the Province forward.

Soon after the Provincial congress the Provincial chair and his top called upon those who had contested and fail to make it to join the provincial executive so that they could serve in various capacities. Some headed the call but others thought otherwise.

A second call has been made today for those still outside to reconsider their earlier position.

Congress entails contestation and there are bound to be conflicts. As a way forward the province was mandated to address problems in some districts which still have structural problems.

The need for respect was clearly spelt out. Leaders were encouraged to address each other as leaders rather than calling each by names.

The province through the able provincial chair reiterated it’s unwavering support to President no matter what the courts decide in the Mashavira vs MDC case.

After the executive the national organiser had a chance to meet the 26 triple C chairs and organisers and clarified a lot of issues surrounding the branch formation.

The supremacy of branches was very clear from his address which should go a long way in terms of the integration process as there is no longer need whatsoever to fight for just 10 coordinating positions in the CCC. Power has indeed been decentralized which is a plus in terms of winning state power.

The dissolving of wards and district executives generated a lot of debate and emotions and the national organiser was up to the task in demystifying some of the lies that were making rounds. He explained the strategy behind the new direction being taken by the party structural wise.

Woman Bashed For Borrowing Mealie Meal From Neighbour

BUHERA – A man from Maunze Village under Chief Nyashanu in Buhera has appeared at the local courts after he bashed his wife for borrowing mealie meal from a neighbour.

The angry Gift Chingosi (26) also used a log to destroy his hut after his wife breached his rule that the family shall not borrow mealie meal.

The court heard that Chingosi threw away the mealie meal.
Chingosi assaulted Yevai Makamure (21) using a switch.

Lovemore Chamunoita representing the State said on September 1, 2019 at 6pm the complainant told the accused that there was no mealie meal in the house. The complainant then borrowed the commodity from a neighbour.

This did not go down well with the accused. He took the borrowed mealie meal and spewed it all over the house.
Magistrate Dennis Mangosi heard the case.Masvingo Mirror

Hospital Shuts Down Mortuary Due To Load Shedding

INCESSANT power cuts have forced Beitbridge District Hospital to shut down its mortuary leaving members of the public at the mercy of private players who are offering the services at exorbitant prices.

Residents in the border town will also be forced to do quick burials of their loved ones given the rising temperatures.

In a notice on Monday, the hospital said it was suspending mortuary operations with immediate effect.

“Notice is hereby given that Beitbridge District Hospital has temporarily suspended mortuary operations with immediate effect.

This decision has been brought about as a result of the lengthy power cuts and high temperatures being experienced hence rendering the mortuary equipment non-functional,” read the notice.

Matabeleland South provincial medical director Dr Rudo Chikodzore said the Beitbridge situation was beyond their control as Zesa was also the sole reason why some hospitals had no access to running water.

“The situation is beyond our control. We have failed to offer X-rays and conduct surgeries because of power cuts and costs associated with using generators.

The mortuary refrigerators are no longer working so we cannot contain the bodies in the mortuary,” said Dr Chikodzore.

She said they were also conducting awareness campaigns to ensure communities bury their dead quickly as there are no mortuary services at the moment.

“We are engaging the community leadership to sensitise residents so that at least burials are quickened because of the issues of temperatures and the possible costs of using private mortuaries.

We also have unclaimed bodies which need paupers’ burials and local authorities are helping to fast track the process of burying them,” said Dr Chikodzore.

She said the medium-long term situation would be to invest in solar power especially for health institutions.

“In the long term we would like to push for solar as the main source of energy for our institutions. Quite a number of our rural institutions have solar systems in place but they may need to upgraded.

However, our hospitals are behind as far as solar power is concerned,” Dr Chikodzore said.

Zesa Holdings on Monday said it was implementing a prolonged load shedding schedule following a technical fault at Hwange Power Station.

The power utility said it was moving to Stage 2 load shedding that has previously seen customers going for up to 18 hours per day without electricity.State media

Ritual “Killer” Urinates On Uncle’s Corpse

A Domboshava man who appeared in court for axing his uncle to death has been described as a juju man who urina_tes on his subjects after committing a crime.

There are also revelations that Killian Shoniwa Tagarira, 47, is known for having his shirt washed by a relative whenever he is arrested and when the shirt dries up, his juju would have worked to have him released.

Villagers are even convinced Tagarira would find his way back and commit more crimes.

Killian, members of the community said, lived with a brother who is on the run and they kept around 20 dogs.

“These brothers are known for committing crime but they always find their way back and the community fears them because they use juju,” said a villager who preferred anonymity saying he feared for his life.

Family members claimed the brothers get juju from a local sangoma for ritual purposes and get away with crimes easily.

A relative Kudakwashe Shonhiwa who escaped when his father was struck to death said Killian had urina_ted on his father after hitting him with an axe.

“Killian urina_ted on his uncle after he had hit him with an axe; it is common with juju users after beating people.

“He has got his sangoma who gives him juju to wash his shirt and whenever the shirt dries, all his cases disappear from the police and are just brushed away.

“We suspect that Killian uses juju because every time he commits a crime it is taken lightly and he walks scot-free,” he said.

Kudakwashe said it was very unusual for an individual to always urina_te on someone after beating them.

“The brothers stay with more than 20 dogs at their home and force old women to have unprotected sex with them which is unusual.

“Even the man who feeds his dogs does not get paid but does it because he is also in fear of being murdered if he fails to do so.

“Killian is said to be suspecting his family members of bewitching him; that is why he uses juju, murdering people and getting away with it.”

People are now afraid of him in our society, added Kudakwashe.
“Hatichakwanisa kugara takasununguka nevakadzi nevana vedu nguva dzose,” said Kudakwashe.

“He went to jail some other time but he came back earlier than people expected because everyone is afraid of him and nothing is done to him; even the police are also afraid of his juju.”

Another victim only identified as Mazvita said Killian once tried to rap_e and kill her but she managed to escape death because Killian’s brother came late with the axe which was supposed to be used for the ritual murder.

MDC Comes Up With Strategies To Win Elections In Rural Areas

The opposition MDC led by Nelson Chamisa has attributed its poor performance in recently held rural by-elections to a number of variables including the absence of sound party structures in the areas.

Speaking to News Day following the defeat at the hands of the ruling ZANU PF in recently held by-elections in Tsholotsho Rural District Council wards 16 and 20, and Hwedza Rural District Council ward 4, party spokesperson, Daniel Molokele said:

We don’t have structures in the area, no, not yet.

In line with our recent congress resolution, we will be setting up polling station-based branches there soon.

Rural areas have been ZANU PF’s hunting grounds and the MDC has so far failed to find strategies to penetrate the rural electorate.

Meanwhile, Molokele says that the by-elections were a learning curve and the party has now learnt what it needs to do to win the rural vote.

Could the development be a direct attack on Bellamine so to punish him for recent statements he made on the instagram website saying, I will never invest a dollar in Zimbabwe for 5 years” ?

First Family Sucked Into Buyanga, Muteswa Child Custody Wrangle

By A Correspondent- Frank Buyanga’s ex-girlfriend Chantelle Muteswa has approached the first family, president Emmerson  Mnangagwa and first lady Auxillia Mnangagwa over custody her minor child Daniel Sadiqi.

Muteswa is seeking the first family’s assistance in having the boy back after the High Court awarded Buyanga temporary guardianship in July saying that the 31-year-old mother had accommodation issues.

The development was confirmed by Muteswa’s lawyer, Munyaradzi Bwanya who told the Daily News at the weekend that the cases are still ongoing at the courts.

He said:

As her lawyer, l have never met the first lady (Auxillia Mnangagwa), but l know (that) she independently wrote a letter to the president (Mnangagwa) and copied it to the first lady.

The cases are still on-going… and we are waiting for the outcomes. However, my client filed a separate police report at Avondale (police station) and copied the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) after Buyanga took the child to South Africa (SA) without her consent, and a passport.

Muteswa and Buyanga have been fighting over the custody of the child since April and each of them has even sought to have the other imprisoned.

Zanu Pf Mulls New Economic Policy

By A Correspondent- Zanu PF has revealed its plans to come up with an economic policy that will replace the Indigenisation and Empowerment Act.

Speaking to the state media, the party’s Secretary for Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment Dr Mike Bimha said that the party shall consult as widely as possible to come up with a national Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment policy.

He said:

The party, which is supreme to Government, wanted to get perspectives of various groups of people, including the private sector, parastatals and small and medium enterprises, regards the proposed review of the empowerment policy.

What we want is to come up with a policy as a party, but it will have a national outlook. As you know, Government comes from the party, but Government should get input from the party.

The Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment Act has over the years been criticised for its demands which others deem too high thereby scaring potential investors away.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration amended the Act but some observers say the amendments were not enough.

Foreign Affairs Minister Flies To S.A For Medical Attention Days After Gvnt Fires Over 200 Doctors

By A Correspondent- Zimbabwe’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Sibusiso Moyo has been admitted to a South African Hospital for a “scheduled operation”.

The development was confirmed by George Charamba, the spokesman for the presidency, who posted on Twitter saying:

This is a scheduled operation. I can’t vouch that he is now admitted. But I am aware this was a pending event, after Mauritius.

Moyo’s flight to South Africa comes as the government is retrenching doctors who have been on industrial action since the 3rd of September this year over unsustainable salaries and poor working conditions.

As a result of the industrial action, the health sector that was already in the red as hospitals had inadequate medicines and equipment, is now grounded as there are insufficient health caregivers to attend to patients.

Meanwhile, Vice President Constantino Chiwenga is still in China where he has been for the past four months been receiving medical attention. He had previously spent six months getting treatment from India before being airlifted to South Africa when his health rapidly deteriorated.

Beitbridge Hospital Turning Away Dead Bodies Due To Power Cuts

The Beitbridge District Hospital mortuary has stopped accepting corpses due to long spells of power cuts and the rising temperatures in the border town.

The hospital, in a notice, said their machinery has been rendered useless due to the cuts and heat.

“Notice is hereby given that Beitbridge District Hospital has temporarily suspended mortuary operations with immediate effect.

“This decision has been brought about as a result of the lengthy power cuts and high temperatures being experienced hence rendering the mortuary equipment non-functional,” read the notice.

“As a result of this no new bodies will be accepted for storage in the mortuary.”

The government has struggled to provide adequate power to the people due to dwindling water lavels at the Kariba dam and failure to pay South Africa and Mozambique who supply the country with power.

Highlanders Hold On To Key Player Despite National Team Call Up.

Prince Dube

Highlanders technical manager Hendrikus Pieter De Jongh says Prince Dube will be available for national duty on Thursday after their match against Ngezi scheduled for Barbourfields tomorrow.

“Prince will go for national duty after Wednesday’s match – in the evening or Thursday morning.”

De Jongh blamed the local league for not following the Fifa rules as he is going to miss the services of his striker on Saturday.

“One thing that makes things strange is why do this local league not following the Fifa rules. The rules states that when there’s a match on the Fifa calendar there’s no league. ”

“It’s an official Afcon qualifying match on Saturday and league is on Wednesday and Saturday how? We are the only league in the world playing. ”

“Next Saturday I will miss my top striker because of this organization ignoring rules. It’s abnormal. Next time we need to do things professional way and follow rules.” he said.

Man Sentenced To Death, Gets A Law Degree, Represents Himself On Appeal And Gets Freedom

A Kenyan man sentenced to death has inspired many by getting a law degree and representing himself in court, earning his freedom.

William Okumu, who spent 10 years at the Kamiti Maximum Prison for robbery with violence and possession of stolen property was set free in May 2019.

Recently speaking to the BBC, Okumu expressed his joy at being freed saying, “there’s no English word that can express how I feel.”

Okumu was among 15 prisoners from Uganda and Kenya who completed his law degree from the University of London in 2018, under African Prisons Project’s (APP) Justice Changemaker Programme.

Representing himself

In 2017, after the Supreme Court declared Section 204 of the Penal Code which stipulated mandatory death sentence as unconstitutional, Okumu saw an opportunity to appeal his sentence.

According to APP, Okumu’s petition was supported by the prosecution as he had ‘performed exceptionally well in custody and had made good use of his time in prison.’

Kibera Chief Magistrate Hon. William Okumu, reduced his sentence to 10 years in jail from the day of his arrest. Having already served 10 years, 7 months in jail, he was immediately set free.

Speaking to APP at the time of his release, an excited Okumu said that he was looking forward to being reunited with his son as he was arrested when he was just 3 days old.

“I look forward to meeting my 10-year-old son. I want to go and surprise him in school. I want to play with him in the mud, hoping that it is raining back home. I want to make up for our lost time,” he said.

Uplifting others

Okumu also expressed his desire to represent inmates who are victims of wrongful convictions because of a lack of basic knowledge of the law.

“For me, there is no greater motivation than serving others and uplifting the weak and marginalized among us.”

“I have realised that my dreams are bigger than my fears.”

Just In: SB Moyo Undergoes Complicated Procedure In South Africa

By Own Correspondent| Seasoned Journalist and former Editor of The Daily News Stanley Gama has tweeted that Foreign Affairs minister Sibusiso Moyo is currently in a South African hospital where he is undergoing a complicated procedure.

Gama said his source told him the famous November 17 coup announcer was in an Intensive Care Unit.

SB Moyo has been in and out of hospital since he suffered a reported heart failure sometime last year.

Government of Zimbabwe is currently embroiled in a long battle with junior doctors who have gone for over 70 days without reporting for duty, demanding to be paid salaries commensurate with the skyrocketing cost of living.

The situation has crippled the country’s health delivery system with patients being turned away while the number of deaths recorded during the strike has been kept a secret by the government.

Matabeleland MDC Youth Leadership To Force For Recruitment Of Ndebeles In Nursing Schools

MDC Youth Assembly official Discent Collins Bajila has announced that he has launched  a program that is aimed at developing a database of qualified citizens of Matabeleland and Midlands who will be assisted to get placements at the nursing schools in the Southern region.

Speaking to this reporter, Bajila said his program was influenced by the recent recruitment process that saw people from the region being sidelined.

The former Youth Assembly Secretary General said he is building a team of volunteers to assist him inpushing the project.

Read his full statement below:

Let us look into the future and be more practical about our advocacy.

In 2020 the things that happened at Mpilo Hospital School of nursing must not happen. We must help our people in Bulawayo to apply in numbers. We must have physical and tangible evidence that they applied. We must help them FREE OF CHARGE.

So I have taken the first step in that direction. Spread the word.

Tell the young people of Bulawayo who have attained the age of 17 and from at most 2 sittings have at least 5 O Levels including Maths, Ndebele, English and a Science subject, (excluding Wood Work, Fashion and Fabrics or Food and Nutrition) to send applications to [email protected]. The application should include certified and scanned copies of ID, Birth Certificate and Academic certificates.

We will ensure that Mpilo Hospital and UBH receive the applications. No one will be charged for the delivery.

Those willing to join Team 2020 may send ideas to the same email. There is UCE, Hillside Teachers College, Bulawayo Polytechnic, School of Mines and so forth that need the same assistance.

Just In: Suspected Opposition Activist Detained At Airport

By Own Correspondent| A suspected opposition party sympathizer was recently arrested upon arrival at the Robert Mugabe International Airport by security agencies.

According to sources privy to the matter, the victim Joshua Chimuti is thought to have unsuccessfully sought asylum in one of the European countries and is suspected by the dreaded Central Intelligence Organisations to be among a group of opposition party sympathizers who have been wedging a cyber-war with the ZANU PF administration.

“He was arrested upon disembarking from a plane as security authorities immediately seized him and interrogated him for several hours,” aid the source.

They then threatened to charge him with contravening sections of the Immigration Act after they accused him of allegedly leaving the country at an undesignated point of exit without proper documentation.

“He said they demanded to know who was funding him and the identities of other opposition party sympathizers based abroad who were being paid to demonize the country on the social media platforms”.

Said the source,” They then strongly warned him to desist from such behaviour is he was going to be under surveillance for 24 hours a day”.

Millions in Zimbabwe have turned to social media for news as the state continues its stranglehold on the media space.

Thus, the state apparatus has mainly targeted those who are perceived as hostile to the present administration on social media sites such as Facebook, WhatsApp and Twitter.

Recently, access to the internet and popular social media apps were intermittently blocked as the country’s largest telecom company, Econet, sends customers text messages relaying the government’s orders and calling the situation “beyond our reasonable control.”

President Mnangagwa’s government has taken giant steps to stifle the social media by drafting the Computer Crime and Cyber Crime Bills.

The proposed law would target Zimbabweans accused of abusing social media to instigate violence, banditry, sabotage and general instability in the country.

The main purpose of the Bill is to punish those behind computer and network-related crimes, said the government.

Long Queues And Stampedes As Banks Issued New Notes

Paul Nyathi|Banks in Harare today started issuing the new notes as promised by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Governor, Dr. John Mangudya, yesterday.

A snap ZimEye.com survey in Harare Central business district revealed that banks were issuing few of the new notes and mostly coins to customers.

The withdrawal caps however, remain stuck at $ 50 at most banks in line with RBZ drip-feed strategy of the new cash to monitor new money effects in the market.

“I have just received the new cash in $2 coins. I’m however saddened that we came here with high hopes of securing all our money but they still restrict us to just $ 50. What tangible thing can I buy with $ 50?,” said Allan Kodzaimaoko to journalists, who had just come out of one banking hall.

The new notes are expected to go a long way in addressing cash challenges which has been affecting the banking public for quite sometime.

Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Governor, Dr. John Mangudya, is on record saying the central bank will drip-feed the economy with new money as a way of addressing cash challenges and there is no likelihood of causing inflationary pressures.

Long queues were witnessed at all financial institutions as people sort to withdraw their money that has been stuck in banks for a long time.

Some unscrupulous economic agents had taken advantage of the situation by hoarding cash before selling it to desperate members of the public at exorbitant rates, as high as 50 percent, in a clear case of daylight robbery.

19 Year Old Prophet Drowns During Baptism Ceremony After Declaring That Someone Will Die During The Ceremony

The late Gift Dube and his mother Thobekile on the right.

State Media|A prophet (19) at 12 Apostolic Faith Mission Church drowned on Sunday morning during a baptism ceremony while trying to save a congregant who had slipped into the water.

Gift Dube, who was in Form Three at Amhlophe High School in Bulawayo, had moments earlier, prophesied that someone was going to die in the water on the day.  He drowned in the presence of his mother who is also a member of the same church.  The tragedy occurred in a sewer-filled stream that runs into Khami Dam.

In an interview at home in Old Pumula suburb yesterday, the deceased’s mother, Mrs Thobekile Dube, said her son died a painful death.

Mrs Dube said his son had prophesied that if congregants were not vigilant in prayer someone was going to die.

“He was an evangelist in the church and a prophet who used to guide us during church proceedings. We had gone there for the baptism of three new converts. He led the prayer session until he said each and every one of us should find their place where they should pray alone, telling God what is in their hearts. He also warned that the waters had dark spirits hence they should pray because someone could remain (die) in the water,” said Mrs Dube.

She said as he was praying, one of his cousins slipped into the water and Gift drowned while attempting to rescue him.

Mrs Dube said other church members fell in a trance and only recovered when Gift had drowned.

“The boy whom my son tried to rescue was saved by another congregant who threw a stick towards him and ordered him to grab it while she pulled. I’ts not clear what happened before that, it’s as if we had lost our memories. I saw my son drowning in the water with his arms stretched open. That’s how he drowned,” said Mrs Dube.

“What is shocking to me even up to now is that the police sub-aqua unit retrieved him from the shallow end of the stream. His body was still upright instead of floating sideways. His feet were still warm as if he was still alive. Police even suggested that I rub him under the feet. He had no water in his stomach, the only visible change is that he was now dark on his forehead. My son was gone just like that.”

Bulawayo police spokesperson Chief Inspector Precious Simango said:

“We received a report whereby a 19-year-old boy who was doing Form Three at Amhlophe High School drowned during a church service. He was a prophet and was in the company of church members intending to conduct a baptism ceremony.  He was the first to get into the water intending to anoint it and while in the water he lost control and drowned instantly.”

She warned members of the public against risking their lives in water bodies.

“We are saddened about such carelessness and we urge religious leaders to ensure they do not endanger the lives of people in water sources. Now that the rainy season has started, members of the public should desist from attempting to get into water sources for whatever reason as they risk drowning especially if not monitored by professionals,” she added.

Court Clears Tinashe Kambarami

Tinashe Kambarami

Paul Nyathi|Former Bulawayo Deputy Mayor Tinashe Kambarami and Councillor Silas Chigora have been acquitted by magistrate  Shepherd Mjanji on a charge of malicious damage to Bulawayo City Council property.

The court said the state did not provide enough evidence to obtain a conviction.

State witnesses Tobias Dube and Richard Ndlovu who are said to be employed by the City Council under the security department are reported to have testified that they did not see the two accused persons break the alleged property.

Another witness who is a police officer Golden Sibanda testified that he and other police officers were only called in to rescue the two councillors who had hidden in the mayor’s box after a mob wanted to lynch them.

The pair were arrested in July this year after a fight with the Town Clerk Christopher Dube.

Guardiola Speaks On Loss To Liverpool

Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola has denied sarcastically congratulating referee Michael Oliver after their controversial 3-1 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.

The gaffer was caught on camera shouting “Thank you so much” in sarcastic fashion as he shook hands with the match official and his assistants.

The result saw City falling nine points behind the Reds at the top of the table.

Speaking at his presser after the match, Guardiola dismissed any suggestion he was being ironic despite getting incensed by referee’s decisions a couple of times during the game.

“It was not sarcastic, I say thank you so much all the time,” he said.

“I said the same at the Tottenham game at home. All the time I go to referees I say thank you so much.”

Guardiola was seen thrusting two fingers in the 82nd minute to denote what he felt was the denial of a second penalty after Trent Alexander-Arnold appeared to handle for the second time in the match.

The first handball incident happened moments before Liverpool scored the opening goal through Fabinho in the 7th minute.Soccer 24

We Have Competent Players : Antipas

Warriors caretaker coach Joey Antipas believes he still has good players in his national team squad for the Afcon Qualifiers after a couple of stars pulled out due to varying reasons.

The gaffer lost strikers Tinotenda Kadewere and Macauley Bonne due to injury issues.

Kadewere suffered a hamstring injury while on duty for his French Ligue 2 side Le Havre last Friday.

Bonne who was expected to make his competitive debut for the country after receiving his Zimbabwean passport last week also pulled out on medical grounds.

Adam Chicksen requested to be excused so that he can concentrate on getting a new contract at his club.

Speaking to the Herald, Antipas said: “I believe we have some good players in the squad and the likes of Knox Mutizwa have been enjoying a good form of late. I am sure they will be able to stand up and get the job done.”

Meanwhile, several players started reporting for camp yesterday and these include Khama Billiat, Elvis Chipezeze, Alec Mudimu, Marshall Munetsi, Terrence Dzvukamanja, Kuda Mahachi and Thabani Kamusoko.Soccer 24

Mambo Dhuterere’s Dare Guru Rocks Entertainment Scene

Mambo Dhuterere dominates the Permican Awards nominees list after his songs were nominated in five different categories, ahead of other renowned musicians.

Mambo Dhuterere was nominated in the Best Song Writer, Best Traditional Song, Best Newcomer, Best Collaboration and Song of the Year categories.

He is rocking the entertainment scene with his latest album “Dare Guru”.

The Permican Gospel Awards were last held in 2016 and will mark their return this year with the ceremony slated for November 22 at the City Sports Centre in Harare.

Running under the theme “Creatively Touching Souls” the awards are aimed at motivating and promoting local gospel musicians.

Also on the nominees list is Michael Mahendere, Janet Manyowa, Tembalami and Spirit Praise Choir.

Awards director Courage Ted Lazaro said preparations for the ceremony were at an advanced stage.
“We want to push gospel music to step out of the ordinary,” he said.

“There is a tendency of saying gospel musicians do mediocre things because they have an audience which is mostly church people.

“We want them to push the boundaries and to be creative while touching souls.”

Lazaro said they failed to hold the awards ceremony in the past two years because of financial constraints.

“The Permican Awards are a corporate funded event so our main sponsors failed to come through, but we are happy that this year it is bigger and better,” he said. “We have old and new sponsors who have also came on board. We want to push the awards because artistes were complaining about not having awards.

“Now I can promise to maintain the standard and we hope to continue working with our sponsors so that we do it annually.”

Lazaro said there were not many changes to the awards planning and programming, adding that they stayed with the regular 17 awards categories.State media

MDC Bemoans Lack Of Structures In Rural Areas

Man Kills Uncle, Urinates On Body

Full Text :MDC Masvingo Provincial Meeting Resolutions

“Mnangagwa Dictatorship Thrives On Serial Lies”

Farai Dziva|MDC Youth Assembly spokesperson, Stephen Chuma has described Zanu PF’ s Pupurai Togarepi as a serial liar.

Chuma also said Mnangagwa’s military dictatorship thrives on serial lies and blame shifting.

Read full statement :

“If You Don’t Know Where You Are Going You Are On Course”: Case Of Togarepi

Unfortunate comments laced with mendacity attributed to a 57 year old Pupurai Togarepi who happens to be a youth leader for a dying political party clearly shows that the old man is not in sync with realities of poverty and starvation facing the underpaid civil servants.

Without shame, Togarepi claims that industrial action by the poorly paid government workers stems from a hidden third hand that sponsors strikes.

Such a blue lie by a man who ideally is supposed to represent youths, of which 90% of workers are youths is quite regrettable, detestable and shameful.

Court Reserves Judgement In Makandiwa Defamation Case

THE Supreme Court has reserved a judgement in a case in which a Harare businessman is challenging a High Court ruling clearing United Family International Church (UFIC) leader Emmanuel Makandiwa and his wife, Ruth in a $6,5 million defamation suit he filed against the couple.

Upenyu Mashangwa and his wife Blessing, both ex-UFIC members, claimed they lost a fortune after being misled by Makandiwa’s false prophecies.

The couple raised six claims against the church leaders and alleged that Makandiwa in 2012 misrepresented that they would encounter a “debt cancellation miracle” and encouraged them to continue “seeding”.

However, the Mashangwas’ house in Marlborough, Harare, according to the claim, was later attached and sold for $500 000 instead of $700 000 by ZB Bank.

The couple has demanded nearly $7 million from the tycoon preacher.

They wanted him to pay them $1,7 million for recommending a de-registered lawyer, Tichaona Mawere who was to dupe them, among other claims.

Earlier this year, the High Court cleared Makandiwa of any wrongdoing and Mashangwa took the case to the Supreme Court arguing that a ruling by justice David Mangota was frivolous and vexacious.

The case was heard Monday morning and Mashangwa’s lawyer, Advocate Sylvester Hashiti said Mangota passed a wrong judgement.

“When I say a wrong judgement, I mean that it’s a judgement not supported by the law. It is wrong in that it attacks the procedure.

“His judgement only dealt with the issue of vagueness and embarrassment,” said Hashiti.

However, Makandiwa’s attorney, Advocate Lewis Uriri argued that Mashangwa’s arguments were baseless.

“The application is groundless that no reasonable court will consider it,” he said.

Uriri said Mashangwa did not place any evidence proving his case before the court.

“They said they were sued but there is no evidence to prove this. They did not place before the court a version of their video. They simply refused to do so.

“The bank (ZB) never sued them. The property they are talking about was sold, never attached for execution.

“Ownership has not changed. The truth is the property was sold to one Jemina Gumbo and also to Walter Magaya and there are pending cases regarding this case,” he argued.

Uriri further questioned why Mashangwa was failing to provide the court with writ of execution documents if the property was attached as claimed.

“The whole case is riddled with falsehoods,” he said before the judgement was reserved.

Justices Elizabeth Gwaunza, Lavender Makoni and Francis Bere heard the case.

Before the High Court, Makandiwa successfully argued that the lawsuit was an abuse of the court process and that it should be thrown out.

Regarding the debt cancellation claim, Makandiwa denied ever misleading the couple, saying no prophecy can command the congregants to stop repaying their debts.

He said the leaders at UFIC only deliver sermons and teachings based on the word of God and video evidence of all services can confirm that.

Makandiwa argued that the Mashangwas never owed ZB Bank as alleged and that the Marlborough property was never attached over a $500 000 debt as alleged.

In February 2012, the property in question, was sold to someone for $800 000 and later on to a third party.

Makandiwa denied ever prophesying that Mawere was a great lawyer who would never lose a case.

He attached a digital video disc (DVD) showing the events of the day in question showing that the prophecy was targeting Mawere’s wife who had problems with her husband.

Makandiwa stated in his papers that the couple never engaged Mawere as alleged.

On the claim related to payment of tithes and offerings, Makandiwa said they are biblical, and no one is compelled to pay them.

Makandiwa also denied knowledge of the $1,1 million that the Mashangwa claimed to have contributed to the church.

It was also dismissed as false that the Mashangwas shut down Oceane Perfumes business after the church leader communicated that the products were cancerous.

Nick Mangwana Kicks Off ED Succession Debate

President Emmerson Mnangagwa wants to be succeeded by a fairly young leader compared to those that have ruled the country before , a senior government official has said.

Ndavaningi Nick Mangwana the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information Publicity and Broadcasting Services said, “President Mnangagwa believes that the next President and leadership of Zimbabwe should be a younger in age compared to the leadership the country has had so far.”

“President Mnangagwa believes that the next President & leadership of Zim should be a younger in age compared to the leadership the country has had so far. It is with this in mind that he has taken the bold step of infusing young leadership in Govt as deputies to learn the ropes,” said Mangwana.

ED-MDC MPs Parly Showdown Resumes This Thursday

PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa is Thursday headed for yet another potential confrontation with MDC MPs when he returns to parliament for Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube 2020 national budget presentation.

MDC national spokesperson Daniel Molokele, in an interview, set the record straight the main opposition still did not recognise Mnangagwa as legitimately elected national leader.

Molokele said the stance was not spontaneous but was a party policy not to grant Mnangagwa the respect of national President.

“We do not recognise ED, full stop! The decision we made is based on the party resolution. So, neither the Standing Rules and Orders of Parliament nor the Speaker Jacob Mudenda can challenge the party decision,” he told NewZimbabwe Monday.

The main opposition insists the Zanu PF leader stole his way to victory in the 2018 presidential poll in which he escaped with a narrow 50.6% victory, enough to grant him passage to State House.

MDC leader Nelson Chamisa polled 44.3% of the national vote, according to ZEC official results.

The main opposition has almost made it occupational to dispute the victory even 15 months into Mnangagwa’s new mandate.

Mudenda was last year forced to summon some police officers into the legislative chamber to drag out MDC MPs one by one during live television coverage on national broadcaster, ZBC-TV.

He was reacting to the defiant legislators’ failure to join their Zanu PF counterparts in standing up in recognition of Mnangagwa who had entered the house of assembly for the 2019 budget presentation.

Some of the MPs were injured in the process.

September this year during official opening of parliament by Mnangagwa, MDC had another trick up their sleeves; walking out on Mnangagwa as he presented his address.

The action elicited a backlash from Mudenda who decreed the withholding of five months of their allowances.

Mudenda has further blocked MDC MPs from directing any questions to cabinet ministers during parliament’s question and answer sessions.

Thursday’s national budget presentation presents an opportunity for yet another MDC stunt which the party has kept a secret.

Said Molokele, “Speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda does not have the powers to victimise our members in the House and if he decides to do so, we will take him to court.”

Mudenda, on his part, chose to play his cards close to his chest when reached for comment on what he had in store for Mnangagwa-disrespecting MPs.

“I cannot predict anything on assumptions, that is the long and short of it,” Mudenda said.

Meanwhile, MDC will this Tuesday hold its caucus to deliberate on whether or not to attend Thursday’s budget presentation.

Man Cuts Wife’s Fingers Over Bus Fare

By A Correspondent- A man from Bulawayo has been fined $50 for cutting his wife’s fingers with a pair of scissors in anger after she refused to give him money for bus fare.

Nqobile Ncube (34) from Nkulumane suburb attacked Ms Prisca Dube at their home.

A court heard how Ncube, who was abusive, was in the habit of spending his money on beer and then ask for bus fare to go to work from his unemployed wife. Ncube pleaded guilty to physical abuse before Western Commonage magistrate Ms Tancy Dube.

The magistrate fined him $50 or two months imprisonment.

Ncube said: “Icala ngiyalivuma kodwa ngakwenza nge mistake, ngangifuna ukumthathela isigelo ayesiphethe, (I admit the charges levelled against me. However, I hurt her unintentionally).

For the State, Mr Chief Muteve said Ncube committed the crime on October 25 this year at around 9PM.

“The accused person asked for a laptop to charge his cell phone from the complainant and she refused. The complainant told the accused person to charge his phone on the socket and he got angry.

“He later asked for bus fare and the complainant refused. The accused person took a pair of scissors on top of the chest of drawers and cut the complainant’s two fingers on her right hand,” he said.

Mr Muteve said Ms Dube sustained deep cuts and was referred to the United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) for treatment.

Ms Dube, who had a bandage on her hand, said she refused with the laptop because her children were using it. The matter was reported to the police leading to Ncube’s arrest. It was not mentioned how much Ncube had asked for.

Doctors’ Strike: Citizens Feel The Pinch

ORDINARY citizens whose pockets are not deep enough to afford private medical care continue to bear the brunt of the ongoing stand-off between medical doctors — who have been on industrial action for over two months now — and government.

People with various ailments are gambling with death as many have since stopped going to seek medical attention at public hospitals, where they are routinely turned away due to the unavailability of doctors.

Hope in the public health system recuperating and going back on its feet has been lost and the pain has been worst felt by chronically ill patients who rely on the doctors’ services from time to time.

Faina Guruuswa (not her real name), has suffered from anal cancer for 11 years, having been in and out of hospital since 2008, seeking services to at least ease her recurring ailment.

The growth is often cut, but it grows again at a slightly different spot. She has had to become a permanent resident at one of the country’s biggest health institutions, where she is being attended to.

When NewsDay visited her, she was fearful that speaking to the media would attract severe backlash from hospital authorities.

Sometime in September soon after the doctors downed their tools, she had to go for an incomplete chemotherapy treatment.

Chemotherapy treatment may be a single drug or a combination of drugs. The drugs may all be given on a single day, several consecutive days, or continuously.

Guruuswa was given three doses, instead of five, and was told it was just a favour being accorded her since doctors were on strike.

Such is the case for many in her situation. Scheduled treatment is no longer guaranteed, further worsening their situation as cancers are bound to spread rapidly.More in Home

Guruuswa said she was now living in uncertainty over how long she would be stuck at the hospital awaiting services in the face of the doctors’ prolonged strike.

“My condition started in 2008 soon after I started anti-retroviral treatment. I developed small pimples in my anal area and I sought treatment which was not entirely successful,” she said.

Five years down the line, she said it started growing again and she received medical attention, but it recurred again in 2015 and she had to go to Karoi General Hospital to have it removed.

“The growth started again and in 2016, I went to a bigger provincial hospital for another operation, but the growth wasn’t completely healed and I was in excruciating pain. I have had to live on painkillers until now. I am on morphine to help ease the pain,” she said, barely being able to conceal the pain gnawing at her as she narrated her ordeal.

She came to Harare in winter this year because she felt she was now being a burden to her sister, who had accommodated her in Chiredzi, but was also struggling.

Things turned for the worst when the doctors’ strike began and her dream of ever getting better have been shattered.

“Things have changed. Before this, we did not have problems getting treated. It was timely and straight-forward,” she recalled.

Guruuswa has had to endure the harsh economic conditions and is living off the hospital after authorities availed a shelter for those in her situation at the Annex Psychiatric Unit.

She, however, keeps holding on to the last straw of hope that the doctors will return to work and she gets her scheduled treatment before things turn for the worst.

A visit to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals on Thursday evening last week proved that things were far from normal.

As the NewsDay crew sat in the casualty area trying to figure out how people were being served in the wake of the ongoing doctors’ strike, one of the senior doctors finally came after close to two hours of waiting.

“Doctors are on strike, but I am here to assist you with your next step,” the doctor said.

He told one woman who had brought a young man who had drunk poison, to take him back home and force him to drink lots of water because there was no doctor to deal with his condition.

Two women who had a baby with an ulcer on the thumb were told to rush to a private practice as their case was an emergency, which, under normal circumstances, would have been quickly dealt with at the hospital.

Several others were told to go back home.

Zimbabwe Hospital Doctors Association spokesperson Masimba Ndoro told NewsDay that while they drew no pleasure in seeing their patients suffering, the onus was on government to ensure that the basic right to health was upheld.

“We really want to be with our patients. We don’t draw any pleasure from their suffering. It is quite sad that people are being deprived of their right to health as a result of the impasse.

“It is the government’s responsibility to make sure that people are accorded quality health. The government should quickly come to terms with regards to accepting that we have a problem,” he said.

Community Working Group on Health (CWGH) executive director Itai Rusike said the ongoing impasse between government and the doctors was taking its toll on patients and there was need to resolve the crisis urgently.

“CWGH is greatly worried by the incapacitation crisis and prolonged impasse between the doctors and their employer, which has resulted in untold suffering of patients and even deaths that could have been avoided under normal circumstances,” he said.

“While we acknowledge the genuine grievances of the doctors and the financial position of government, we would like to urge the two parties to put patients first and at the centre of their dialogue to save lives and stop the suffering.”

The doctors have remained adamant and have vowed not to return to work until government offered a meaningful remuneration, among other things.

Government has already fired 211 striking doctors after conducting disciplinary hearings, albeit boycotted by the medical practitioners.

At least 516 doctors face the axe as the disciplinary hearings continue.

Meanwhile, Guruuswa’s life, and that of other patients in critical conditions, remain in the balance.

New Ministers To Push For The Fulfilment Of Zanu Pf Election Promises

By A Correspondent- Newly appointed minister of the new Ministry of National Housing and Social Amenities, Daniel Garwe, said his ministry will push to fulfil the interests and manifestos set by Zanu PF ahead of the 2018 general elections.

Speaking soon after his swearing in at State House along with Information Communications and Technologies minister Janfen Muswere, Garwe said he was ready for his new role.

“We are here to further the interests of our party Zanu PF, if Zanu PF says we are going to build houses, we are here to therefore take it up to build those houses for the people of Zimbabwe,” Garwe said.

Ahead of the polls, Zanu PF promised to build five million houses by 2023, to date no significant milestones has been made.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa in a Cabinet reshuffle whittled the powers of Local Government and Public Works minister July Moyo, who was in charge of housing, to bring in Garwe.

He also trimmed Perrance Shiri’s Lands, Agriculture, Water and Rural Resettlements ministry to expand Mangaliso Ndlovu’s Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, Tourism and Hospitality Industry.

The new minister said while the construction industry was dormant owing to a declining economy, he was up for the challenge.

“The construction industry right now is dormant because of the economic hardships that the country is going through,” Garwe said.

“We all know that it is a service industry, people would want money to buy food to get in the stomach first before they think of building houses. The industry is waiting for me now, it is a collective responsibility, it is not the minister’s job alone, stakeholders must be involved. It’s a key result area for government, it is a key result area for me, it is a key result area for my party Zanu PF.”

He added: “Local Government is no longer constructing houses; that responsibility has been taken to National Housing. However, this is my first day; I have to sit down with my colleagues, and see how best we can work in harmony. It is about inter-connectedness of responsibilities.”

Muswere, who is the former ICT deputy, said his immediate task would be to strike a balance between affordability of data and sustainability of service providers.

“The basis of the entire mobile network operators and the fixed network operators is to ensure that their businesses are viable but also to ensure that we protect the consumers of Zimbabwe,” he said.

Muswere said he would ensure an acceleration of connectivity and prioritise access to modern technologies.

“Generally, what we are expecting is an acceleration of a knowledge-based society, through ubiquitous connectivity,” Muswere said.

“If you are looking at the pre-budget seminar, we are covering mainly the infrastructure sectors, which is in line with the Transitional Stabilisation Programme … we are going to be more about results.”

Reprieve For Gweru Forex Dealer

By A Correspondent- A 35 year old Gweru man was last week acquitted on charges of illegally dealing in foreign currency.

Paradzanai Hamanu of Mkoba 11 appeared before magistrate Edwin Marecha facing a charge of illegally dealing in foreign currency.

Allegations were that Hamanu was seen by detectives holding wads of bond notes, United States dollars and South African rand which he was reportedly trading on the streets.

Through his lawyer, Nomore Hlabano, Hamanu denied the charge and said police officers forcibly took the money from his vehicle, which (money) he intended to pay the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority for the house he had bought and that part of the money was paid after his car had been hired.

He told the court that he had CCTV footage which showed the police randomly searching his car before taking the money.

Marecha ruled that the State had failed to prove its case before acquitting Hamanu.

The State’s case was that on August 20 this year at around 3pm, detectives, who were on patrol, saw Hamanu holding a bunch of currencies and saying in vernacular, “tinochinja mari pano (we exchange money)” to passersby.

Police approached and arrested him and recovered $2 000, R5 680, US$161 on his person and a further $2 880 from a satchel stashed in his car.

Jailed January “Protestor” Appeals Conviction

By A Correspondent- A Bulawayo man, who was sentenced to four years in jail for looting during the January protests, has approached the High Court appealing both his conviction and sentencing.

Future Banda was arrested on January 25 at the instigation of Mlungu Supermarket owner, Prayford Sibanda, who alleged that Banda was part of the protesters that looted his shop on January 15.

Banda was convicted of stealing a pig carcass and 6×2 litre containers of Chibuku beer.

The court ordered him to pay restitution of $18 000.

During trial, Banda insisted that he was not part of the looters as he was attending a funeral on the day in question, with witnesses testifying to that effect.

Banda was sentenced to four years at Khami Prison. Six months were suspended on condition of good behaviour, while another six months were suspended on condition he restitutes his victim.

Banda’s lawyer Sifelani Mlambo told a local publication yesterday that they had approached the High Court seeking repeal.

“Yes, we have already appealed to the High Court and the case has already been filed and we are waiting for the date, which is most likely to be early next year,” he said.

Mlambo said there was proof that the convict had attended the funeral in Makokoba.

The State is being accused of having relied on two untrustworthy witnesses who gave contradicting testimonies.

“The witnesses that gave the account contradicted themselves. One of them said Banda was the ring leader in the looting and had organised it. The other one said that he (Banda) was among the group that looted in the shop,” Mlambo said.

Six families who live at the farm were told to leave.

This is in spite of the fact that the six families on the farm have offer letters given during the Mugabe days.

Jesina Follows Into Her Father’s Footsteps

By Own Correspondent| They say, “an apple doesn’t fall away from the tree,” and Zimbabwe’s showbiz is littered with examples of how daughters are walking into their father’s footsteps.

Selmor Mtukudzi, daughter to the late Oliver Mtukudzi has been holding fort, reliving her father’s legacy. Ammara Brown has kept Andy Brown legacy so is the other daughter of Andy, Chengeto.

To join the long list of illustrious daughters taking up to their father is Jesina Chikutu, daughter of the legendary singer cum author Luckson “Manluckerz” Chikutu.

Eleven-year-old Jesina has shown serious intend to follow in her father’s footsteps. She is already a member of her father’s Zimbabwe Traditional Unity Band where she is doing both the vocals and dancing.

She has already featured on her father’s videos where she had showed that with a little polishing, she can be a great actor too.

Jesina learnt to sing from her grandmother who ironically share the same name with her.

“It started with my grandmother when she visited us in Sweden. So we sat one evening and my grandmother started singing a song called Simudza Maoko Ako, I told her to teach me the song so that we can sing together. She also taught some dance moves to go with the song and I really enjoyed it,” she said.

However, the turning point for Jesina was months after her dad was involved in a car accident during the Zimfebi festival in Zimbabwe.

Feeling pity for her father who was struggling to perform after the fatal accident, Jesina offered to join her father’s band.

Faith Healer Murdered Over Failure To Reverse Runyoka Spell

By A Correspondent- A faith healer from Redcliff died after a mob meted ‘instant justice’ on him after he had failed to heal a man suffering from runyoka/lunyoka.

According to local tradition, runyoka is a condition which affects a man who would have slept with a woman, who husband or partner had ‘centrally locked her’ and can result in the death of the man affected.

The faith healer, Tapiwa Mubaiwa, was beaten to death by an angry mob after he had failed to treat one Tony Siziba who was allegedly suffering from runyoka after he had bedded a married woman.

Siziba’s relatives and friends had taken him to Mubaiwa who promised to treat the matter within minutes and demanded a cow upfront as his payment.

Unfortunately for Mubaiwa, he failed to deliver on his promise and the mob which was incensed at having paid the cow quickly descended on him and beat him up severely until he lost consciousness. He later died while he was being transported to a hospital.

After realising what they had done the perpetrators, Edmore Mpofu, Anderson Tshuma, Tony Siziba, and a Denford went into hiding.

Mpofu was later apprehended and appeared before Kwekwe Magistrate Miss Vimbai Mtukwa facing a murder charge. He was denied bail and remanded in custody to May 7.

Girl (17) Raped At Knife Point While Coming From Fetching Water At Midnight

By A Correspondent- The water crisis bedevilling urban settlements has seen a 17-year-old-girl from Mucheke Suburb in Masvingo being rap_ed at knife point after going to fetch water at around midnight last week.

The girl reported the case at Chikato Police Station and a medical examination has confirmed the rap_e.

Masvingo Acting Police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa said that investigations are underway and advised people to walk in groups when they have errands at night.

Women’s Coalition in Zimbabwe Masvingo branch chairperson, Joyce Mhungu said council must quickly address water shortage as it spells more disaster for women and girls.

Dhewa said that the girl was on her way back home from fetching water at Yeukai Business Centre when a man armed with a knife suddenly clutched her from behind. The girl screamed but the suspect pulled out a kitchen knife and threatened to kill her.

The rap_ist allegedly dragged the girl into a secluded area near the Presbyterian Church and rap_ed the girl once before he sped away.

Masvingo is facing a water crisis that has seen few areas receiving the precious liquid, but this only comes after midnight. Women and children have to wake up early every morning to collect water from boreholes and public tapes.

This has left the vulnerable exposed to thugs that loiter at night.

“Parents and guardians must accompany juveniles when going out, even when they are running errands especially during the evening,” said Dhewa.

Newly Appointed Housing Minister Pledges To Bring Order To Sector

Daniel Garwe being sworn in

By A Correspondent- Newly appointed National Housing and Social Amenities Minister Daniel Garwe said his ministry would focus on construction of houses.

“The construction industry has been dormant because of the economic hardships the country is going through,” he said.

“This is a service industry. People would first want food before they think of building.

“Our mandate is to turn around the economy and the construction industry plays a critical role in turning around the economy. Construction provided instant job creation and instant wealth creation and the employment was less reliant on technology and more on hard work.

“It is a hard-hat industry. It creates a massive amount of jobs. That is what we are going to push to ensure that our youths, women and everybody else gets employment.”

Minister Garwe said he would strive to bring order into housing cooperatives that have been building houses on sites without social amenities.

Patients Stranded As Council Polyclinics Shut Down Over Nurses Strike

By A Correspondent- Warren Park Polyclinic has effectively closed due to the ongoing strike by nurses at most of the clinics owned by Harare City Council.

The development has left mainly expecting women and infants in need of vaccination in a quandary.

On Monday, expecting and nursing mothers were being turned away by a security guard manning the gate at the institution.

A security guard told a local publication that some doctors had left business cards so that those in need of medical care could consult them.

Nurses at council clinics declared incapacitation on 4 November and despite council authorities declaring that the strike was illegal, the nurses have vowed not to report for duty until they are given a living wage.

“I Will Do My Best To Tackle Corruption”: Chombo

By A Correspondent- The former wife of Ignatius Chombo, Marian, says she is looking forward to tackling corruption following her appointment as deputy minister on Local Government on Friday.

Chombo was speaking after she was sworn in at State House on Monday where she pledged to deal with corruption in local authorities. She said:

Every politician has a journey and this was my journey and at least, there is light. I still have to prove to Zimbabweans that I can deliver.

We were in a meeting with the President and he said we shouldn’t tolerate corruption and I will make sure I will do my best in that regard.

Marian divorced the short-lived Finance Minister in acrimonious circumstances. During the divorce process, she exposed Ignatius’ obscene wealth, which made observers view him as one of the most corrupt government officials of all time.

After she was attacked by the then President Robert Mugabe in 2013 for standing as an independent candidate in parliamentary elections, Marian joined former Vice-President Joice Mujuru’s National People’s Party and later re-joined Zanu PF.

Latest On ICT Minister Jenfan Muswere Appointment, Is ED Rewarding The “Boys” For A Successful Coup?

19yr Old Prophet Drowns During Baptism Ceremony

By A Correspondent- A prophet (19) at 12 Apostolic Faith Mission Church drowned on Sunday morning during a baptism ceremony while trying to save a congregant who had slipped into the water.

In an interview at home in the Old Purnula suburb yesterday, the deceased’s mother, Mrs Thobekile Dube, said her son died a painful death.

He also warned that the waters had dark spirits hence they should pray because someone could remain (die) in the water?” said Mrs Dube.

I’ts not dear what happened before that, it’s as if we had lost our memories. I saw my son drowning in the water with his arms stretched open. That’s how he drowned?’ said Mrs Dube.

My son was gone just like that?’ Bulawayo police spokesperson Chief Inspector Precious Simango said: “We received a report whereby a 19-year-old boy who was doing Form Three at Amhlophe High School drowned during a church service.

He was a prophet and was in the company of church members intending to conduct a baptism ceremony. He was the first to get into the water intending to anoint it and while in the water he lost control and drowned instantly?’

She warned members of the public against risking their lives in water bodies. “We are saddened about such carelessness and we urge religious leaders to ensure they do not endanger the lives of people in water sources.

Now that the rainy season has started, members of the public should desist from attempting to get into water sources for whatever reason as they risk drowning especially if not monitored by professionals?’ she added.

Two Men jailed For Stabbing, Robbing Police Officer

By A Correspondent- Two men from Bulawayo have each been sentenced to 60 months in prison for stabbing a police officer seven times all over the body with an okapi knife before robbing him of his wallet and a cellphone.

Mthabisi Sibanda (33), Prince Moyo (33) and Brian Moyo (29) of Entumbane suburb robbed Mr Collin Gono who is stationed at Ross Camp Police Station of $450, a police identity card, a national identity card, a PSMAS medical aid card, two FBC bank cards and a Samsung cellphone.

The trio pleaded not guilty to robbery when they appeared before Bulawayo magistrate, Mr Tinashe Tashaya.

The magistrate convicted Sibanda and Prince and acquitted Brian.

He sentenced each of them to 60 months in prison and suspended six months for five years on condition that they do not commit any offence involving dishonesty and violence within that period.

“The first and second accused person are each sentenced to 60 months in prison. Six months have been suspended for each accused person for five years on condition that they do not commit any offence involving violence and dishonesty within that period,” said the magistrate.

He suspended a further six months on condition that they each restitute Mr Gono $295 before November 30.

The men will serve an effective 48 months in prison.

Brian was acquitted after the magistrate ruled that the State had failed to provide overwhelming evidence linking him to the offence.

According to court papers, on September 18 this year at around 7PM, Mr Gono was crossing a foot bridge at Mazai River in Makokoba suburb when he was approached by Sibanda and his accomplices.

The papers stated that the trio demanded his cellphone and wallet.

“One of the accused persons produced a knife and stabbed the complainant as he tried to run away,” read the court papers.

“The accused person further stabbed the complainant until he fell down and robbed him of his phone and wallet before disappearing into the darkness towards Mashumba Shopping Centre in Makokoba.”

The court heard that one of Sibanda’s accomplices sold the phone to Ms Nomthandazo Tshuma and it was later recovered.

The matter was reported to the police leading to the trio’s arrest.

The total value of stolen goods is RTGS$6 590 and RTGS$6 000 was recovered.

Clinic Closes Doors Following Nurses Strike.

NewsDay|WARREN Park Polyclinic has effectively shut down following the industrial action by City of Harare nurses on November 4, leaving mainly expecting women and infants in need of vaccination in dire straits, NewsDay can reveal.

NewsDay yesterday observed that the clinic, which is usually a hive of activity, was deserted, with expecting and nursing mothers being turned away by the security guard manning the closed gates.

Ethel Mugadzaweta told NewsDay that after being turned away from the clinic, where she had taken her 10-week-old infant for diphtheria, polio and tetanus vaccination, she was going to Chitungwiza Central Hospital where she heard services were being provided.

“My child will die if I sit around and wait for this clinic, I am going to Chitungwiza Hospital. I hear they have not joined the strike yet,” she said.

The security guard at the premises, who refused to be identified, said the doctors had left their business cards for private consultations.

“I have with me business cards left by doctors who work here so that those in need of medical attention can consult because no one is reporting for work,” the security guard said.

The nurses have declared that they would not go back until their employer gives them a living wage.

Speaking to NewsDay, ward 15 councillor Tichavaona Mhetu argued that the clinic was operating, but only attending to critical issues.

“I spent the better part of Thursday at the clinic and they said they are attending serious cases like women who are already experiencing labour pains,” he said.

Other polyclinics in high-density areas such as Kuwadzana and Glen View are reportedly taking serious cases only.

Ordinary citizens, who have been flocking to council clinics after doctors at major referral centres downed tools two months ago, have been left with no primary health care alternative.

Zim Girls Trips To Dubai Exposed

File Picture: African ladies captured soliciting for men in Dubai

Dangwe News|With a pressing economy back home most Zimbabwean ladies are turning to high level prostitution in United Arab Emirates. It is believed the ladies are offered huge money by the rich Arab men in the Arabian country. Most of the trips are organised by South African based brokers who in turn get paid a commission for the services.

In 2018 two South African girls made headlines when they posted videos on social media bragging about how they made millions in a week after Dubai trip.

Speaking to Dangwe News Grace (not real name) who is based in Avondale Harare described the culture as satanic.

‘I went there four times on these sex trips after a friend introduced me, the money is good but it is dirty money. On my first trip three men would poop on me for more than four days, it was never about sex but more of being treated like an animal’. Grace said she made over U$15,000 on her first trip while all her expenses were catered for.

The trips are so popular that most girls fail to make the cut. On her last trip Grace told us how she was made to have sex with teenage boys.

‘The boys were virgins and the dads wanted them to have sex and teach them how it is done, it all happened in a packed room it is good none of them were recording the session. The so called girls trips to Dubai are all about this’. So bad is the practice that even married ladies are doing it while some girls as young as 17 years are being forced to join by other family members.

The economic situation in Zimbabwe has forced many into deep poverty with some men based in Cape Town South Africa turning to homosexuality in order to make ends meet. The tourist rich city has seen many Zimbabwean men sell their bodies to foreigners.

Masimba who once stayed in the mother city opened up about the dirty game ‘these are normal guys that need the extra money and it all starts after one is given a huge tip at a restaurant, many of them do it for money and are not even gays’.

There are risks Zimbabwe’s fight against HIV will be lost if the economy continues to melt as is the case now. Locally the prices of condoms have gone beyond the reach of many a situation that will force many to have unprotected sex. The country had recorded good gains on the fight against HIV with new infections going down and almost 90% of those infected being put on treatment.

“Highlanders Has The Best. Supporters In Zim,” de Jongh

Highlanders fans captured at Barbourfields Stadium

Highlanders coach Hendrik Pieter de Jongh thinks the club has the best supporters in the country.

The gaffer made the comments after guiding Bosso to the 2019 Chibuku Super Cup final in front of a sizable crowd at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday. The Bulawayo giants beat ZPC Kariba 1-0 courtesy of a first-half goal by Prince Dube to set up a date against Ngezi Platinum Stars.

“They are the best fans in the country,” he said. “I like the way they are passionate (about their team). The atmosphere was great today (on Sunday).”

de Jongh who hasn’t lost a match since taking over at Highlanders in September was impressed by his team’s performance on Sunday.

“We deserve to be in the final. It doesn’t matter that we didn’t play that good because what we wanted was to be in the final. We scored at the right time, at the perfect time,” he added.

Doctors On Study Leave Outside The Country Also Dismissed From Work

The government last week inadvertently dismissed doctors who were on maternity leave and some who were training outside the country even though they did not take part in the ongoing strike.

This was revealed by Senior Hospital Doctors Association (SHDA) president Shingai Nyaguse in a statement. He said:

Junior and middle-level doctors have been dismissed from work for not being able to report for duty due to incapacitation.

Some on maternity leave and some who are training outside the country have also been served with letters accusing them of absenteeism.

Hundreds of doctors were served with dismissal letters for failing to report for duty without leave, with 500 more expected to be sacked when the disciplinary hearings are concluded.

The Minister of Health and Child Care, Obadiah Moyo, defended the dismissals claiming that the doctors, who have cited incapacitation, were in breach of the law.

War Veterans $5 “ZUPCO Bread” Ridiculed

A project by Bulawayo-based war veterans to produce “affordable” bread using Dutch ovens has been described as a waste of time since it has no capacity to meet the city’s demand for the commodity.

On Tuesday, the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA) Bulawayo commissioned their “bread bakery”, which is located at their Entumbane high-density suburb offices.

ZNLWVA Bulawayo spokesperson Christopher Sibanda said they started producing bread on the day of the launch after receiving a donation of wheat from Provincial Affairs minister Judith Ncube.

“We have already started baking bread and we have groups of 10 people who work, so they take turns in working… on the day of launch bread was being sold for ZW$ 5,” Sibanda told Southern Eye on Sunday on Thursday.

“We have the capacity to produce cheap bread compared to what other confectionary companies are charging,” Sibanda said.

He was, however, evasive on the number of loaves they intend to produce per day from their bakery.

The price of bread, like other basic commodities and services, has been skyrocketing as producers cite inflation and a harsh operating environment.

A fortnight ago one of the confectionary giants, Bakers Inn reduced the price of the commodity from $15 to between $14 and $14,50.

Bulawayo commentator Reginald Shoko doubted that the war veterans’ project will be a solution to the ever rising cost of bread..

“Bulawayo needs over 10 000 loaves of bread a day, their oven is operated manually so this won’t help the community because their production will be too low,” he said.

“Even if their bread is cheaper, the demand will be high. Can they meet a demand of more than 10 000 a day?” Shoko questioned.

Shoko said the oven did not have the capacity to meet the demands of the Bulawayo community and likened it to a teaspoon in an ocean..

The project comes two months after more than 100 residents including war veterans underwent training on how to make bread in Bulawayo using Dutch ovens as part of Zanu PF’s empowerment projects.

Party supporters also underwent training in confectionery, petroleum jelly making, shoe polish making, floor polish making, building of Dutch ovens and the making of dust ovens.

The trainings were held at Zanu PF’s Bulawayo Davies Hall offices.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has said the party wants to construct makeshift traditional bakery ovens in every ward in the country to compete against “profiteering” bread companies.

Will The Mdc Walk Out On Mnangagwa In Parliament For Budget Presentation On Thursday

MDC MPs in another ED head-on during Ncube Thursday budget
MDC leader Nelson Chamisa still insists he was robbed of his victory

Correspondent|PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa will be in parliament yet again on Thursday for Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube 2020 national budget presentation, will MDC Parliamentarians walk out on him?

MDC national spokesperson Daniel Molokele, in an interview, set the record straight the main opposition still did not recognise Mnangagwa as legitimately elected national leader.

Molokele said the stance was not spontaneous but was a party policy not to grant Mnangagwa the respect of national President.

“We do not recognise ED, full stop. The decision we made is based on the party resolution so neither the Standing Rules and Orders of Parliament nor the Speaker Jacob Mudenda can challenge the party decision,” he told reporters on Monday.

Mudenda was last year forced to summon some police officers into the legislative chamber to drag out MDC MPs one after the other in front of live television coverage on national broadcaster, ZBC-TV.

Mudenda has further blocked MDC MPs from directing any questions to cabinet ministers during parliament’s question and answer session.

Meanwhile, MDC will this Tuesday hold its caucus to deliberate on Thursday’s budget presentation on whether to attend the event or not.

Man Arrested For Saying “Tinochinja Mari Pano,” Acquitted

NewsDay|A 35-YEAR-OLD Gweru man was last week acquitted on charges of illegally dealing in foreign currency.

Mambo Dhuterere Takes Music Industry By Storm

Zanu PF Youth League Ready To Pounce On Grace Mugabe

Robert and Grace Mugabe.

Own Correspondent|ZANU PF Youth League Secretary for Administration Tendai Chirau has launched an attack on former First Lady Grace Ntombizodwa Mugabe over reports that she hired thugs to invade a farm allegedly owned by 6 farmers who were allocated the farm some years back.

Writing on Facebook Chirau said, “Grace Marufu Mugabe Marufu reportedly hired some hoodlums in a bid to invade a farm owned by six farmers who were allocated the land some years back. During the old dispensation she tormented the people of Mazhou in Mash Central.”

Chirau said Grace Mugabe’s bid to own multiple farms will not succeed.

“In the new dispensation, she is destined to fail and her insatiable appetite for owning multiple farms will be brought to end. The farm in question is in Pomona.”

Grace Mugabe’s accusers have offer letters that are stamped and dated 2007, and were signed by former Minister Didymus Mutasa.

Commenting on the matter political analyst Shephard Dube said the move by the ZANU PF Youths was aimed at seeking revenge on Grace Mugabe for burying former President Mugabe in Zvimba in line with his wishes.

“President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s people are vindictive and are targeting a widow who refused to have her husband buried at the heroes acre and presided over by ZANU PF people. After failing to defeat her plans they are now moving after her assets. If grace Mugabe did any wrong let her be taken to court and let the court do its role. We must not have people who are law unto themselves and threatening other citizens.” Dube said.

School Gets 0% Pass Rate For 17 Years And Nobody Is Bothered

17 years of 0% pass rate for Mwenezi school

MWENEZI – Pupils at Turf Primary School in Ward 15 has over the past 17 years ran without even a single classroom block and has recorded a zero percent pass rate in grade seven examinations ever since.

During lessons, many pupils sit on the ground under makeshift structures built of wooden poles and dagga with thatched roof.

Turf Primary School Teacher-in-Charge (TIC) Bernard Mahutse said the school was facing some of the worst conditions a school could ever face in the country.

“Grade seven classes use these facilities during their final examinations. We have a total enrolment of 368 pupils and we have few pieces of furniture such that some of our pupils learn seated on the ground,” said Mahutse.

Teachers do not stay longer at the school as there are no houses for them, and none of them is motivated to stay at the school for a long time.

“There are five teachers here and that shows you how understaffed we are. Different grades are combined into one single class to make it easier for teachers to cope. Teachers do not stay for long and pupils are taught by new faces all the time,” said Mahutse.

Local parents also lamented the conditions at the school which they described as good as a play centre for their children to pass their time.

“Nothing is learnt at Turf as our children just go there to grow up and socialise with their age-mates. During the rainy season, many parents would rather have their children herding cattle and goats than to going to school where they benefit nothing except to come back home with dirt uniforms,” said female parent.

Ward 15 Cllr Edson Chauke said the school faced a serious predicament as the Ministry of Lands was yet to officially authorise the school’s location.

“Conditions there are really bad and that is tragic to the future of our children there. The Ministry of Land is backtracking on pegging the school to make its siting permanent.

“We briefed our MP (Priscilla Moyo) about the state of affairs at the school and she promised to assist in that regard. We will keep pushing to ensure that a way out is found and conditions there are improved,” said Chauke.

Mwenezi Rural District Council (RDC), which is the responsible authority, through the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Albert Chivanga acknowledged the state of affairs at the school.

Chivanga told TellZim News in a telephone interview that schools which were unpegged and are on private properties are difficult to develop until certain issues got clarified.

The entire Mwenezi district has a total of 172 schools, 102 of which are satellites, having been born out of the often chaotic Land Reform Programme.

Most satellite schools in the district are in a sorry state, with Turf Primary being just but an epitome of worse things going on.

ZIPRA Veterans Rubbish Jonathan Moyo’s Claims On Cain Mathema PF ZAPU Membership.

Cain Mathema

Former Zipra fighters have dismissed Jonathan Moyo’s protest over the removal of Cain Mathema by President Emmerson Mnangagwa from the Home Affairs Ministry as spitting on the 1987 Unity Accord.

The Unity Accord brought together Zapu and Zanu then under Joshua Nkomo and Robert Mugabe respectively and ended the Gukurahundi massacres targeted at Nkomo’s supporters in the Matabeleland region and Midlands province.

In a cabinet reshuffle last Friday, Moyo said the removal of Mathema whom he claimed was an ex Zapu for the first time saw ex Zapu members in Zanu-PF shut out from security portfolios.

But the Zipra veterans said Mathema joined Zanu before the unity accord.

“When Mathema was sent to school after he and his friends staged a mutiny during the war, he joined Zanu and ceased being Zapu. It is wrong for Moyo to say Mathema represents ex Zapu/Zipra cadres. Mathema just like Obert Mpofu defected to Zanu long before the unity accord was signed so technically, they are Zanu people,” said a Zipra veteran.

“He is right when he says ex Zapu people are no longer in the security ministries but that basis should not be on the recent removal of Mathema from the Home Affairs ministry.”

Mathema was removed from Home Affairs and was assigned to the ministry of education as Mnangagwa replaced him with Kazembe Kazembe.

Debit Card Cloning Convict Wants Out Of Prison

State Media|FOUR men ganged up and defrauded Pretoria Portland Cement (PPC) Zimbabwe of more than US$26 500 after cloning the company’s ATM card and using it to conduct illegal Point of Sale (POS) transactions at various outlets in Bulawayo.

This emerged when one of the accused persons, Malcolm Stanley Migogo (37) of Cowdray Park approached the High Court in Bulawayo seeking bail pending appeal.

Migogo teamed up with Divine Gandawa (36) of Nkulumane, Farai Gandawa (30) of Pumula South and Cylous Ndlovu (39) of Pumula South before they defrauded the cement manufacturing company of US$26 529, 39 over a period of seven months last year.

They were last month convicted of fraud by Bulawayo regional magistrate, Ms Sibonginkosi Mkandla.

The four men were each sentenced to five years in jail of which one year was suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.

A further two years were suspended on condition that they restituted the stolen money leaving each one of them with an effective two years to serve.

Migogo, through his lawyers Mutuso, Taruvinga and Mhiribidi Attorneys, yesterday filed an application for bail pending appeal at the Bulawayo High Court citing the State as the respondent.

In his bail statement, Migogo said there was no likelihood of absconding if granted, arguing that he had prospects of success on appeal.

“It is submitted that there is no hint of any likelihood of abscondment by the applicant as he is a family man with minor children and a wife to look after. He is gainfully employed and has never exhibited signs of flight,” argued Migogo’s lawyers.

He said his charge was framed by the State and argued that it was capable of being quashed in terms of section 178 of the Criminal Procedure and Evidence Act because he was not accorded a fair trial.

Migogo said no evidence was placed before the court proving that there was commonality between himself and his co-accused’s conduct.

“It is respectfully submitted that the charge as drafted by the State is clear in that it alleges that the act of misrepresentation was the use of a cloned bank card to the prejudice of the complainant. It was therefore upon the State to prove that indeed the applicant knew that the card was cloned at the time that he transacted with it at OK Mart and that his intention was to prejudice the complainant,” said the lawyers.

Migogo said he had a reasonable arguable case warranting the High Court to interfere with both his conviction and sentence.

He said the lower court misdirected itself by taking a speculative approach to the evidence before it, and argued that the State failed to proffer enough evidence linking him to the offence.

Migogo said the sentence imposed on him was excessive and induced a sense of shock.

He offered to pay $300 bail and to report twice a week at Bulawayo Central Police Station as part of the bail conditions.

According to court papers, on May 1, 2007, Mr Ian Donald David Sheasby who was employed by PPC Zimbabwe as a commercial director was issued with a Stanbic Visa Card bearing number 4069091005173868.

On March 31, 2018, Mr Sheasby resigned from the company and handed over the card to Ms Joan Patricia Alexander who secured the card by locking it in a drawer in her office.

Between March 31 and October 23 in 2018, Migogo and his accomplices unlawfully acquired the card information and went on to duplicate it.

They then went to various shopping outlets in Bulawayo and used the cloned card to conduct several POS transactions.

They bought groceries, electrical gadgets and beverages and in the process prejudicing the company of US$26 529, 39.

PPC Zimbabwe discovered that there were financial transactions being debited from their account. The company alerted its banking institution, Stanbic, which subsequently blocked the card.

A report was made to the police and investigations were conducted leading to the arrest of the two Gandawa brothers who implicated the other two accomplices.

Police recovered several Samsung LED television sets, which were purchased from OK Mart in Bulawayo.

Mangudya Assures Maximum $300 Weakly Cash Withdrawal For Every Account Holder Starting Today

John Mangudya

State Media|Commercial banks were collecting $30 million new notes and coins yesterday from the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) and account holders should be able to start accessing their $300 weekly cash withdrawal rations starting today. With the weekly cash withdrawal limit at $300, at least 100 000 account holders should be able to withdraw cash this week, unless there is another injection from RBZ.

As bank vans started congregating at RBZ to collect the new $2 and $5 notes and the new $2 bond coins, RBZ Governor Dr John Mangudya said measures had been put in place to counter the channelling of cash from banks to the black market and the locking up of the new cash into the informal sector.

He did not go into detail, but the withdrawal limits, the small change-denominations, monitoring to ensure businesses bank cash and general checking are all likely to be part of that process.

Dr Mangudya said he expected all banks to start dispensing the new notes and coins today.

While withdrawal limits remain at a maximum of $300 a week, the authorities intend to review them when the situation improves in line with the thrust of restoring normalcy in the economy.

Banks are also expected to start feeding money into automated teller machines (ATMs) soon.

Dr Mangudya said the RBZ will closely monitor the movement of cash from banks to depositors to prevent the channelling of money to illegal cash dealers who have been selling notes and coins to desperate people at premiums of up to 50 percent.

Most of the premiums are paid by people needing kombi fares as other purchases are normally only cheaper for cash if no premiums are paid.

“Money moves from formal to informal sector; it gets trapped there,” said Dr Mangudya.

“So, it means we need to make sure that the economy is formalised. We need to improve production to grow the circle of the formal sector. We need to address the structural challenges.”

On enforcement of legal instruments to preserve cash in the formal system, Dr Mangudya said: “It’s a must; our teams will be on the ground to ensure that compliance is done. We also need to ensure that shops that receive cash bank it in line with the Bank Use Promotion Act. Big outlets will be monitored.”

Dr Mangudya said reports that the RBZ had not released cash to banks yesterday were incorrect.

“It’s not true that there is no money (released to the market). The banks are collecting the money, so today (Monday) is the day for collection of the money.

“Those ones that were able to be served in the morning should be able to give their customers.”

His remarks followed long queues of seemingly frustrated depositors at most banking halls.

The RBZ chief said cash supply will keep improving in the next few days as monetary authorities continue to drip-feed the market.

The introduction of new notes and coins is expected to increase the amount of cash in circulation from about $855 million to almost $1,9 billion.

Dr Mangudya has said the RBZ aims to increase the amount of cash in circulation to 10 percent of total money supply, which is close to the standard global thresholds.

Bankers Association of Zimbabwe (BAZ) vice president Mr Ralph Watungwa confirmed that banks started receiving cash from the RBZ yesterday.

“I can confirm that the new notes are being taken from the central bank and normal processes for takeover of the notes are underway,” he said.

“Some banks have already collected the notes while others are still in the process. The public was expecting to hold the cash today, but it’s a process. As BAZ we are confirming that the banks will start dispensing the new notes tomorrow (today).”

A lot of arbitrage has been in progress for some months.

Yesterday, there was still around a 35 percent premium on notes and coins sold for mobile money and foreign currency dealers were giving a similar discount on US dollars bought for cash.

Prices of many goods at the tuckshops and street vendors level are also around a third lower for cash.

Many informal traders then sell the cash they get as they buy their goods in the formal sector for digital money.

It is expected that as more cash circulates, these arbitrage gaps will diminish.

Premiums for cash payouts should fall, the gap between the cash and mobile money price of a US dollar banknote on the black market should narrow and the prices charged by informal traders for cash should start approaching the prices charged by formal traders regardless of the payment system.

Hwange Breaks Down Again, Kariba A Near Write Off, Is The Country Heading For A Complete Blackout?

Hwange power station broke down again.

Paul Nyathi|ZESA is implementing prolonged load-shedding of up to 18 hours a day following a fault at Hwange Power Station yesterday afternoon.

The power utility said it was moving to Stage 2 load-shedding.

According to Zesa, Stage 1 load-shedding happens to the first group of customers as listed on its schedule and these are switched off as the power shortfall will be within planned limits.

In the event that the power shortfall increases beyond the planned limits, load shedding will move to Stage 2.

Zesa said while it was importing electricity to augment national supplies, power would remain constrained.

“While all efforts are being made to improve the power supply availability through imports, the supply situation remains fragile,” said Zesa.

“Customers are advised to use the available power very sparingly and will be updated as the situation improves. The inconvenience caused is sincerely regretted.”

The first two stages at Hwange Power Station suffer frequent breakdowns because of skipped and skimped maintenance and refurbishment over the past 35 years.

Hwange and modest imports from South Africa and Mozambique have to carry the Zimbabwean load because the regional drought has severely limited output from Kariba South, the largest station.

Kariba, Zimbabwe’s largest power plant with a capacity of 1 050MW, is churning out less than 10 percent of its capacity as water levels at the lake, where neighbouring Zambia also draws water for its power plant on the northern bank, are fast dwindling.

At peak periods of demand, the country requires about 1 800MW, but is currently able to produce an average of 500MW, at best, due to the effect of drought on Kariba water levels and the antiquated equipment at Hwange Power Station.

Given that water levels in the Kariba dam only reach peak inflows around middle of each calendar year when plains up north where the river originates will have saturated, the dam may not supply power for more than half the year in 2020.

Two brand new large boiler-turbine-generator units are being commissioned at Hwange, but the extra 600MW will not start coming on stream until mid-2021.

Hwange is also operating with critically low stocks of coal due to reduced feedstock supplies from the miners amid concerns that the situation could also trigger stoppages of power production.

Recently, Zesa claimed that it was not getting enough supplies from the coal miners — Hwange Colliery, Makomo Resources and Zambezi Gas.

Its target stock is 300 000 tonnes, which is equivalent to 45 days of power generation at 600MW. But ZESA is only receiving an average of 85 000 tonnes, enough for only 11 days.

Importing power is also a challenge as some of the regional suppliers, particularly Eskom of South Africa, are struggling to keep generating units in service. A scarcity of foreign currency has also resulted in Zimbabwe struggling to pay for power imports.

But Really How Does Mnangagwa Choose His Ministers? Minister Of ICT Completely Has No Basic Ideas On ICT, Watch Very Embarrassing Video

Dr Jenfan Muswere.

Paul Nyathi|President Emmerson Mnangagwa yesterday signed into office his newly appointed Ministers at a ceremony at the State House. Amongst those was the new Minister Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services Dr Jenfan Muswere.

Dr Muswere was previously a completely unknown Deputy Minister in the same ministry.

His promotion to head up this crucial ministry clearly tells that President Mnangagwa doesn’t know the importance of technology or that he doesn’t care or both. Muswere should not be anywhere near his position.

Here is a video of Muswere being interviewed about Artificial Intelligence at the AI for Good Conference in Geneva in May this year. It will make you look for a rock to crawl under… What did we ever do to deserve this?

Fuel Prices Go Up Again

The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) yesterday announced fuel price increases of 11 cents and 10 cents for petrol and diesel, respectively.

The price of petrol which was at $16,66 per litre is now $16,77, while diesel is now $17,53, up from $17,43 per litre.

The price changes are due to the FOB (Free on Board) price movement and the revised duty regime.

Zera said operators may, however, sell at prices below the cap depending on their trading advantages.State media

Antipas Blasts PSL

WARRIORS coach Joey Antipas has criticised the failure by the Premier Soccer League to observe the FIFA international break.

Antipas, who also doubles as the national team coach, is expected to go in camp today with the Warriors to prepare for the back-to-back 2021 AFCON qualifiers against Botswana and Zambia.

This has left him with added pressure as he needs to take care of his side Chicken Inn’s title charge in an away match against Mushowani Stars at Trojan tomorrow.

Chicken Inn edged to within two points of leaders CAPS United with a controversial 2-1 win over Triangle at the weekend.

There are four games remaining in the season and it is getting tense at the top.

“It’s only fair that I have to give due attention to my team because that’s my bread and butter,’’ said Antipas.

“So, I will see how I will balance the scales. But this whole thing is a mess because this is a FIFA week. Everywhere in the world there are no local games being played.

“Mind you, the national team games take priority over the domestic programme.

I think we had too many stoppages during the season and now it is the clubs that are paying heavily for that.”

Ironically, Antipas’ boss at Chicken Inn, Lifa Ncube, is the Premier Soccer League vice-chairman.

The Premier League have put together a full programme for the midweek and another full menu is expected at the weekend in a bid to end the season on time.State media

Relief For Mapeza As Chippa United Stun Amazulu

The wait for Chippa United’s first win of the 2019/20 ABSA Premiership season is finally over after Norman Mapeza guided them to a 2-0 win over Amazulu at the Princess Magogo Stadium today.

The Port Elizabeth side arrived in Durban with no win this campaign and having lost their last three league games but William Twala’s second half strike ensured that would be a thing of the past.

Tonight’s win will be a welcome boost for Mapeza, who has been tasked with getting the Chilli Boys out of the mirky waters of relegation.

Despite the win, Chippa are still bottom of the table with 7 points from 11 outings.Soccer 24
