Mugabe Son In Law Back In Court

Former President Robert Mugabe’s son in law, Simba Chikore is appearing in court today facing charges of unlawful detention of Air Zim Head of Legal Affairs Bertha Zakeyo.

Chikore allegedly had Zimbabwe Airways legal head Bertha Zakeyo detained for two hours at the airline’s offices in June.

One of his alleged accomplices, security guard Simbarashe Mutimbe appeared in court earlier this month. He was granted bail of $30, The Standard reported.

The guard was alleged to have “unlawfully deprived Zakeyo of her freedom”, the paper said.

In June, Chikore was alleged to have written to Zakeyo, ordering her dismissal for holding unsanctioned meetings and leaking company secrets.

Zakeyo was allegedly detained at her office for two hours by security guards and denied access to her lawyer, the private Daily News reported at the time.

Mugabe Backed Party Scoffs At ED Dialogue Calls

Jane Mlambo| The National Patriotic Front (NPF) the only party with a representative in parliament outside Zanu PF and MDC has scoffed at the call for dialogue by President Emmerson Mnangagwa saying meaningful dialogue cannot be called the Commander in Chief of the security forces brutalising people in the country.

In a statement, Jealousy Mawarire said their party members, Jim Kunaka and Dickson Mafios are languishing in prison with several high ranking officials having skipped the country running away from alleged state security agents hunting them down.

He condemned what he termed efforts to hoodwink Zimbabweans and the international community that Mnangagwa is pulling, through calling for nocturnal dialogue at his residence where they will be surrounded by the Presidential guard, accused of butchering civilians on 1 August 2018.

Zimbabwe In Trouble Over Crackdown On Protestors

Soldiers Beat Up Civilian In Harare Protest

By Own Correspondent– The University of Oxford is under pressure to denounce Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube over the Zimbabwean government’s brutal crackdown on protestors.

Ncube is a former academic at the institution and remains a visiting professor at the University.

Dan Hodgkinson, lecturer in African history and politics at Oxford said :

……[the] way in which the Zimbabwean government has acted in the last few weeks has been totally abhorrent.

Mthuli Ncube is a key part of it – he is the finance minister and he has collective accountability.

An association with Oxford, an incredibly reputable institution, carries with it a lot of authority. To hold a position where you are able to use that authority seems to be problematic, to say the least.

For me, the authorities at Oxford should be thinking quite seriously about the implications that their association with the Zimbabwean government has for them.

The government of Zimbabwe deployed security forces around the country to restore order after nationwide riots broke out in January this year. At least 12 people were reportedly killed while hundreds more were seriously injured.

Dr Thokozani Khupe Accepts, To Attend Mnangagwa’s Dialogue Invitation

By Own Correspondent- Opposition MDC T led by Dr Thokozani Khupe has revealed that the party has accepted the invitation for dialogue from President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Party spokesperson Linda Masarira said the MDC T was sending its party leader Dr Khupe and the party’s Secretary General Gibson Nyikadzino.

Said Masarira:

The MDC-T accepted the invitation and the Presidium accompanied by the Secretary General Nyikadzino are attending the dialogue.

The national dialogue is important as it is a way of resolving the multi faceted crisis bedeviling the country. We believe that Zimbabwean politicians must learn to fight their battles without strangling the voter! This dialogue is a right step towards uniting all political players to work towards peace, truth, reconciliation and development of our country.

It’s good for our country that people find each other. Our nation is too polarised. There are destructive divisions. We need to see all political leaders burying their differences and focusing on bread and butter issues. The winner and losers all need to be magnanimous. Zimbabwe is such a beautiful country with vast potential for prosperity. We are praying for a fruitful dialogue which will see all political leaders putting Zimbabwe first.

Dzivarasekwa Trio Jailed 5yrs For Looting Goods Worth Over $20k During January Riots

By Own Correspondent- Three men from Dzivaresekwa in Harare were slapped with five year jail terms each by Harare magistrate Elisha Singano for stealing from a local businessman goods worth over $20k.

The trio were hauled before the court on allegations of robbing the businessman Econet airtime worth $20 000, a laptop and mobile phone during the January riots.

Dr Noah Manyika’s Response To President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Invitation

Statement by Dr Noah Manyika In Response to Invitation to State House Meeting with President Mnangagwa

Noah Manyika

Earlier today I received a letter signed by the Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Dr Misheck Sibanda inviting me and the other candidates who participated in the 2018 election to a meeting with the President at Munhumutapa Offices on Thursday the 7th of February at 10:00 am to discuss “The Framework for Post Election Dialogue by Political Parties.” I am attaching a copy of the invitation letter below.

I have since received a second message indicating that the meeting has been brought forward to tomorrow the 6th and will now be held at State House at 4 pm.

My views on what needs to happen in order for us to have meaningful dialogue are a matter of public record. It is my intention to attend the meeting if as stated in the invitation it is to discuss the framework for dialogue.

In my view, real and meaningful dialogue that will lead to the change we desperately need in our country can only happen if the people wrongfully detained have been released and the army is withdrawn completely from the streets and from manning roadblocks.

It can only take place if, as the President promised upon his return from his overseas trip, the heads of those who have been responsible for brutalizing citizens roll.

Let me state clearly and unequivocally that I don’t believe the president has created the right conditions for dialogue, something that is in his power to do. I will attend this meeting to hear if he is now prepared to do so and will only be prepared to join any continuing dialogue if this is clearly the case.

Bushiri And Wife Out On R100k Bail Each

A large following of fanatical supporters were out in full force to support Major One and Mary.

Self-proclaimed prophet Sheperd Bushiri and his wife, Mary, have been granted bail of R100,000 bail each after appearing in the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court in Pretoria on Wednesday morning.

The case was postponed until May 10.

The couple will have to stay in Gauteng as one of the bail conditions.

A large following of fanatical fans was ready to support the religious leader outside the court, holding placards, including one that said “You touch major 1 by mistake / You will die by correction / Hands off God’s prophet”. “Major one” is what the self-proclaimed prophet is known as among his followers.

Bushiri and his wife Mary face charges of fraud and money laundering.

Bushiri and his wife appeared in the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crime Court after the Hawks and police arrested them on several allegations, including contravening the Exchange Control Regulations Act in relation to $1,147,200 worth of foreign currency.

Hundreds of Bushiri followers protested outside the court in a show of unwavering support for the self-proclaimed prophet and his wife. Congregants from the church were seen singing and dancing outside the commercial crime court.

The arrest of Bushiri and his wife comes at a bad time for the religious leader.

Bushiri and his church have been at the centre of controversy after the death of three women in a stampede at his ECG church during a service on December 28. At least 17 other congregants were injured after running for shelter during a heavy rainstorm.

In the aftermath of the incident, the South African National Civic Organisation (Sanco) led protests at the ECG, with community members calling for the church to be expelled from the Pretoria showgrounds and for Bushiri to be deported to his home country Malawi.

A report after an inquiry by the CRL Rights Commission, however, cleared Bushiri of negligence, finding that the event where the tragedy took place was compliant with municipal bylaws and the Safety at Sports and Recreation Events Act (SSRE Act).

Mnangagwa To Thank The People Of Gwanda For Voting For Chamisa

Paul Nyathi|PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa is set to address what he calls a “Thank You” Rally at Pelandaba Stadium in Gwanda on Friday.

Gwanda Central constituency is apparently the only Matabeleland South constituency that did not vote for Mnangagwa and ZANU PF with both Nelson Chamisa and his MDC party coming out victorious.

It is then confusing what Mnangagwa will be thanking the people of Gwanda for.

Addressing heads of government departments during a preparatory meeting held in Gwanda yesterday, Matabeleland South Provincial Administrator Ms Sithandiwe Ncube said all planning committees had been activated.

Various committees also gave feedback on the progress they had made and outstanding work.

“It has been confirmed that President Emmerson Mnangagwa will be holding a ‘thank you’ rally at Pelandaba Stadium, Matabeleland South Province on Friday 8 February. All committees are now on the ground and they are planning for this event.

“As heads of government departments can you communicate with one another on outstanding works that have to be done so that this event can be a success,” she said.

Late last year, ZANU PF unceremoniously moved the venue of its annual Conference from Gwanda town to Esigodini after the party’s provincial executive felt Gwanda was not an ideal venue since it is being held by the opposition MDC.

Woman Collapses And Dies In A Bulawayo Shop

A WOMAN collapsed and died in Bulawayo yesterday afternoon while attending to a customer at a local fabric retail shop where she worked.

The incident occurred at a shop along Herbert Chitepo, between Leopold Takawira and Eighth avenues at around midday.

The cause of death or the woman’s identity could not be established immediately.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Chief Inspector Precious Simango (pictured) said police are still gathering information surrounding the matter and the deceased’s next of kin are yet to be informed.

She said more information will be availed today.

Eyewitnesses said the woman dropped dead in front of a customer who was inquiring about fabric prices.

“The woman just collapsed while attending to a customer and a co-worker called an ambulance,” narrated the witness who declined to be named.

“She was declared dead as soon as the ambulance crew arrived. We all don’t know what was the cause of death.”

The body was being taken away by police as a Chronicle news crew arrived at the scene.

This news crew could not get a comment from the business owners as they locked themselves inside the shop.

Critics Fire At Bushiri For Hiring Barry Roux, “Same Lawyer Represented A Murderer Now Representing A Prophet!!”

Prophet Shepherd Bushiri who has been selling anointing oil to his followers including appointments for prayers is in hot soup for hiring one of the most expensive criminal lawyers, Barry Roux, as a lead defense attorney.

Bushiri was arrested on Friday together with his wife for alleged fraud and money laundering and has acquired the services of top defence advocate Barry Roux whose daily fees is reportedly close to R50 000.

Hiring of Roux who gained fame when he defended murder convict Paralympian Oscar Pistorius in 2014 has landed the Malawian born televangelist in trouble with some people accusing him of being a fake prophet.

Writing on Facebook, Gitta Phiri said: “Same lawyer that represented a murder will representing a prophet.

“When you cant do yourself a miracle to get bailedl”! Lets all agree that dude don’t perform any miracles full stop!”

“Life is: Prophet hires a prominent lawyer to defend him while his brainwashed people uses his water when in trouble” posted Raynolds Liabunya on social media.

Jozi News, one of the tabloids in South Africa accused Bushiri of disregarding his anointing oil in a story headlined Self Proclaimed Prophet Shepherd Bushiri Prefer Barry Roux Over His Anointing Oil.

South Africa’s renown advocate and whistleblower, Man’s Not Barry Roux who tweets at AdvBarryRoux alleged that Bushiri’s followers will foot the embattled prophet’s legal bills.

“So, Barry Roux has displaced Annointed Oil?…Now it’s no longer ‘Jesus fights our battles, no stress’ but ‘Barry Roux will try his best to fight out battles’!.. conmen in times of difficulties and tribulations will jump onto fellow men for help. This how you can know them” another commented.

But Bushiri’s Communications Director, Ephraim Nyondo, said that Roux has always been a family attorney.

“There is no change in the usual legal team of Prophet Shepherd Bushiri’s as he goes for bail hearing tomorrow with South Africa’s top advocate Barry Roux, again, leading ECG leader’s defense team. Advocate Roux has always been Bushiri’s family lawyer” said Nyondo.

Bushiri and his wife are expected to appear in court this morning to file for bail.

Govt Engages Bakers On Price Of Bread

Government has entered into negotiations with bakers to have the price of bread adjusted downwards following a recent price hike.

Sources who attended the meeting yesterday said government was pushing for the price of a loaf of bread to be pegged at $1,80, instead of $2,60 being charged by the bakers.

Bakers defended their decision to increase the prices, citing a rise in the cost of production and the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe’s failure to disburse foreign currency that would enable them to pay for some unavoidable export requirements.

National Bakers Association of Zimbabwe president Ngoni Mazango told NewsDay that engagements were ongoing.

“There are engagements that are taking place at the moment. That’s all that I can tell you,” he said.

“That’s enough to say there are engagements that are taking place, that’s enough.”

Consumer Council of Zimbabwe executive director Rosemary Siyachitema said consumers were not looking forward to any increases because they have had to put up with a lot of them.

“What we understand, because we can speak to the ministry and are doing a follow-up on the discussions between the Ministry of Industry and bakers, is that they are still holding the discussions and apparently, they need to determine the price of bread by Friday so that we know because they are saying there are issues that are there in terms of cost of inputs, the things that they put when they are making the bread,” she said.

Siyachitema said consumers were waiting with bated breath, as they were not looking forward to any increases.

“You wake up, there is an increase; you wake up there is another increase and bread, as we know, is a basic. Things like bread and mealie meal are basics and it’s important that they are not priced beyond their (consumers) pockets,” she said.

“I think the government needs to come up with some understanding of how those prices can be maintained at a level that consumers can afford.”

Efforts to get a comment from Industry minister Nqobizitha Mangaliso Ndlovu were fruitless.

Slow Start To Teachers’ Strike

Some Zimbabwean teachers stayed at home while others went slow on the job as a strike at state schools got off to a patchy start amid fears of further intimidation by security forces who cracked down hard on last month’s protests.

Zimbabwe is grappling with an economic crisis marked by cash shortages and rising prices of basic goods after President Emmerson Mnangagwa hiked fuel costs 150 percent last month.

That brought demonstrations and looting, plus a brutal response from security agents, which rights groups say left 12 people dead. Police put the figure at three.

In schools near central Harare, most teachers appeared to have turned up for work, but some were not conducting lessons in adherence with the strike, witnesses said.

In a classroom at a primary school in Harare’s Mbare township, a Reuters photographer saw one teacher eating from her lunch box in the morning while pupils sat quietly.

She and the headmistress declined to be interviewed.

“Stay home, be safe. Don’t be intimidated by police and CIOs (Central Intelligence Organisation),” the Zimbabwe Teachers Association (ZIMTA), the biggest teachers’ union, said in a circular to members.

Zimbabwe has more than 100,000 public sector teachers.

The Bulawayo-based online news site, Centre for Innovation and Technology, said teachers at several schools in the country’s second biggest city did not turn up for work and parents had to collect their children.

“Some teachers are in class but there is no meaningful teaching going on,” ZIMTA president Richard Gundane told Reuters.

Government workers are demanding wage rises and payments in U.S. dollars to cope with soaring inflation and an economic crisis that has sapped supplies of fuel and medicines.

Many Zimbabweans, who have seen purchasing power eroded despite adopting the dollar in 2009, say Mnangagwa has not delivered on pre-election pledges to kick-start growth after the exit of Robert Mugabe in 2017.

Despite their demands for better pay, other public workers declined to join teachers on strike because they are fearful of the volatile security situation and want to continue negotiations with the government.

Economic hardships have seen the government allowing nurses to work just three days a week because they do not have enough money for bus fares, the nurses union said on Tuesday.

The government has pleaded with teachers’ unions to give talks a chance, saying children will be prejudiced.

Deputy Mayor Arrested For Burnt Police Station

Correspondent|POLICE have arrested Chitungwiza Deputy Mayor Jabulani Mutunzi (MDC-A) on charges of allegedly inciting public violence which led to the burning of a local police station during last month’s Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions-organised stayaway.

It is the State case that on January 14, Mutunzi and others still at large, gathered at C Junction in Unit L and he allegedly incited them by shouting: “Let’s go and burn the police station.”

An informant, Tawanda Hongoro who was passing by later alerted the police, leading to the pair’s arrest.

Mutunzi and Richard Mutswiri appeared at the Chitungwiza Magistrates’ Courts yesterday for initial remand, where they applied for bail through their lawyer Tinomuda Shoko.

“The State knows where the accused persons reside, it is quite surprising that the police arrested them at night considering that the first accused is Chitungwiza’s deputy mayor whose place of residence is known,” the lawyer said.

Shoko said about 30 armed police officers ambushed Mutunzi, blindfolded him with a black cloth laced with a whitish powder that caused him some dizziness.

The State, represented by Tatenda Mukatera, opposed bail on the grounds that the two were a flight risk as there was overwhelming evidence against them that included a video. Magistrate Nyasha Vhitorini will today rule on their bail application.

Bushiri Engages Pistorious Lawyer Barry Roux To Lead His Defence

JOHANNESBURG. — Embattled prophet Shepherd Bushiri has acquired the services of top defence advocate Barry Roux, South African Media reported on Tuesday.

Roux is expected to defend Bushiri (35), and his wife Mary (37) against charges of fraud and money-laundering.

Roux gained some fame when he defended murder-convicted former Paralympian Oscar Pistorius in 2014, after the world-famous athlete shot and killed his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine’s Day in 2013.

His catchphrase “I put it to you”, became instantly recognisable and the punchline of many jokes and memes.

Roux’s daily fee is reportedly around R50 000. Bushiri and his wife were arrested by the Hawks in Rustenburg on Friday, on charges of fraud and money-laundering. They made a brief appearance in the Pretoria Commercial Crimes Court on Monday, before the case was postponed to allow the State to carry out further investigations.

Bushiri and his wife, who remain in custody, will return to court today (Wednesday).

A large group of Bushiri church congregants protested outside the court before the couple’s appearance.

Among those were Black Land First (BLF) leader Andile Mngxitama, who said: “As BLF, we stand with the major one (Shepherd Bushiri). This is a systematic attack on the church and the prophet.”

Addressing hundreds of Bushiri’s congregants, who sang and demonstrated outside the court, Mngxitama said the BLF was the only political movement that had come to show support to the self-proclaimed prophet and his wife.

“We are the only ones who have come out, because we are on the side of the truth. We know that the major one is being prosecuted by this government because he is a black man who is successful out of his own effort and his blessings from his God,” Mngxitama said.

Hawks spokesperson Hangwani Mulaudzi said the case against the couple was linked to alleged offences of fraud and money-laundering, as well as the contravention of the Prevention of Organised Crime Act (POCA), which had been committed from 2015.

The contravention of the Act was in relation to Exchange Control Regulations relating to foreign currency of US$1 147 200 (around R15m).

City Press reported on Sunday that the Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU), a branch of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), had joined the legal fight against the controversial couple and had filed a preservation order seeking to seize their assets, pending the finalisation of the criminal case against them.

Two sources familiar with developments reportedly said the AFU had already filed an application at the High Court in Pretoria, seeking its permission to seize the Bushiris’ luxury houses and cars, as well as the self-styled prophet’s Gulfstream private jet, which is parked in a private hangar at Lanseria Airport outside Johannesburg.

According to The Sowetan, Roux will represent the couple at their bail application today (Wednesday).

Former Health Minister’s Bid To Rejoin ZANU PF Flops

Own Correspondent|Zanu-PF has turned down an application by former Minister of State for Masvingo Provincial Affairs and Gutu South legislator Dr Paul Chimedza to rejoin the party following his expulsion in December 2017.

Dr Chimedza, who is also an ex-Deputy Minister of Health and Child Care, was expelled from the party in November 2017 during the coup to remove former President Robert Mugabe.

Dr Chimedza, who became the shortest-serving Masvingo Provincial Affairs Minister after being elbowed out of office barely a month after his appointment, recently applied to the ruling party provincial leadership seeking re-admission.

The ZANU PF Masvingo provincial spokesperson Ronald Ndaba yesterday said Dr Chimedza would remain in the shadows for a while after his application to rejoin Zanu-PF was rejected.

“Dr Chimedza applied to the Zanu-PF Masvingo leadership for re-admission and we recommended to the National Disciplinary Committee (NDC) that his re-admission into the party be stayed in the meantime while we continue to take a close look at him and his activities,” he said.

“So, for now he (Dr Chimedza) will remain on the sidelines because the NDC upheld our recommendation.”

Chamisa Might Not Attend Mnangagwa’s Meeting.

By Paul Nyathi|Tuesday late night indications are that President Nelson Chamisa of the main opposition the MDC Alliance will not attend the pre talks meeting called by President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Wednesday afternoon.

The meeting initially set for Thursday morning but moved to Wednesday afternoon has invited all the 2018 election presidential candidates through the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission.

Prominent writer Hopewell Chinono indicated on social media on Tuesday night that the MDC Spokesperson Jacob Mafume had told him in confidence that Chamisa will not be attending the meeting.

“The MDCA spokesman Jacob Mafume has just told me now that Nelson Chamisa will not attend the Presidential Candidates meeting tomorrow until people imprisoned after the Stay Away are released from jail,” wrote Chinono.

According to Chinono, Mafume also claimed that the MDCA is demanding that soldiers must go back into the barracks before any meaningful discussions can start.

“Mafume said that dialogue can’t be held when the whole county has been turned into a giant military barrack and their Organisation criminalized with its members on the run.”

The MDC is also reportedly demanding that only presidential candidates who got a meaningful number of votes with representation in parliament should attend the talks and not just everyone who participated.

“Austerity Measures Are Necessary”: Mthuli Ncube

By Own Correspondent| Finance minister Professor Mthuli Ncube has encouraged Zimbabweans to continue working hard adding that the current austerity measures are necessary and will soon bear fruit.

Ncube said this in an interview with the State media.

He said:

Things are certainly going to get better as we go. The changes that we are making, the reforms that we are implementing are necessary. There has been such a long time actually 20 years where there has been incredible indiscipline in the economy and there has to be a change and these changes are costly. We keep saying that these are changes that are needed when a patient is down and out and you need to resuscitate them and give them medication and that is the only way they can survive but that medication can be painful so we are going through that phase.

Crisis In Zimbabwe Coalition Speaks On Mnangagwa Dialogue

Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition (CiZC) welcomes calls for national dialogue as a way of resolving the multi faceted crisis bedeviling the country.

It is CiZC’s long held view that following the disputed July 30, 2018 elections, a national dialogue was critical in resolving the Zimbabwean crisis.

We reiterate that a national dialogue, in its nature, should be inclusive and not necessarily be a political dialogue among political parties.

In this briefing, we highlight our concerns over the Zimbabwean issue as well as our expectations from the national dialogue process;

CiZC concerns

1.        Zimbabwe has not fully implemented the 2013 Constitution. The implementation of the constitution has been slow and there is limited movement in repealing repressive legislation which is in conflict with the constitution. Society continues to call for security sector and media reforms and there are concerns over the non-implementation of recommendations by the SADC Election Observer Mission to facilitate for diaspora voting.

2.        There is a perpetual economic meltdown (resulting from the current political crisis) which has resulted in high levels of inflation and an increase in domestic debt which has compromised the government’s capacity for the provision of social services and social protection for ordinary citizens. The unrest within the civil service has also impacted negatively on ordinary citizens and has the potential of fuelling more conflicts in Zimbabwe.

3.        The Zimbabwean society is heavily divided and polarised and there is huge trust deficit characterised by a perpetuation of political polarisation in post-election period.

4.        Military involvement in civilian processes –  The events of August 01, 2018 and 14 – 16 January 2019 which resulted in the shooting of 12 unarmed civilians in the full glare of both regional and international media is evidence of the above. We note with concern that cases of rape and other forms of brutality by the army continue to be recorded.

5.        The government has apparently failed to uphold fundamental human rights including the right to life as evidenced by its continued deployment of armed soldiers agaunst civilians

6.        The media, particularly the state – controlled media continues to be partial while perpetuating divisions in society and brazenly attacking civil society as plotting to subvert Zimbabwe’s constitutional democracy. We are concerned that the government, through the State media, continues to criminalize the work of civic society.

7.        At a time there is national outcry over the deteriorating economic situation in the country, there is an apparent attempt by the State to silence dissenting voices through arbitrary arrests, beatings, abductions and threatening civil society leaders and trade unionists. At the same time, the government has apparently failed to walk the talk in as far as eradicating corruption is concerned.

Way forward

1)      It is our conviction that the national dialogue process must involve all stakeholders and a national visioning process that has civil society, government, political parties, business, religious groups and labour unions among other critical stakeholders. The dialogue process should produce a clearly timed roadmap to the demilitarisation of civilian political processes and the restoration of normalcy by focusing on key political, economic and social reforms. In this regard, we call for FULL CONSULTATION of civic society rather than cosmetic processes.

2)      It is imperative to arrest the economic downturn in Zimbabwe based on a clear reform roadmap and implementation of pro-poor and inclusive economic policies. Efforts at economic transformation, stabilisation and growth should be aimed at achieving inclusive sustainable economic growth and development.

3)      The Government of Zimbabwe must uphold and guarantee citizens’ rights as enshrined in the Zimbabwean Constitution and other regional and international human rights treaties and statutes. Full implementation of the country’s constitution is equally imporatant in promoting democracy in Zimbabwe.

4)      The Government of Zimbabwe must respect the fundamental right of access to information, freedom of expression as well as freedom of association.

5)      There is need to immediately operationalise a comprehensive programme on national healing, reconciliation and nation building that will depolarise society and entrench the respect for diversity, inclusion and tolerance in all facets of life.

6)      The army must desist from partisan politics and confide themselves to the barracks. There is an imperative need to de-militarise the Zimbabwean state.

7)      There is need for non-interference into the work of institutions that support democracy. This again calls for full implementation and respect of the country’s constitution. Also, government must not be seen to be criminalising the work of civic society orgaisations.

8)      CiZC holds the firm view that implementation of electoral reforms is critical as a way of doing away with disputed elections that often resukt in a legitimacy crisis which comes with negative impacts on democracy and economic development.

Opposition Leader Warns Mnangagwa Of A Walk Out From His Dialogue With Opposition Leaders

Statement by Dr. Noah Manyika In Response to Invitation to State House Meeting with President Mnangagwa

Earlier today I received a letter signed by the Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Dr. Misheck Sibanda inviting me and the other candidates who participated in the 2018 election to a meeting with the President at Munhumutapa Offices on Thursday the 7th of February at 10:00am to discuss “The Framework for Post Election Dialogue by Political Parties.” I am attaching a copy of the invitation letter below.

I have since received a second message indicating that the meeting has been brought forward to tomorrow the 6th and will now be held at State House at 4pm.

Chiwenga Appears On Zbc TV Laughing Out His Hospitalisation Rumour

Zbc News Report|AN amused Vice President Constantino Chiwenga laughed off his health status claims as he set aside a few minutes to speak to the ZBC News at his Munhumutapa offices in Harare after Tuesday’s cabinet seating.

The hospital allegedly said to be where he is admitted has since dismissed attending to him as a patient while South African opposition political outfit, EFF has out rightly distanced itself from mobilising the people who demonstrated outside the hospital in Cape Town.

Vice President Chiwenga had a lighter interaction with the ZBC News, emphasising the centrality of understanding the history of the liberation struggle to the well being of Zimbabweans, especially the youths.

After realising that the Cape Town hoax was running out of steam and was soon to be exposed, the originators of the baseless stories had already crafted another ruse, claiming that the Vice President had been airlifted to a Russian hospital.

Social media continues to be abused in the peddling of falsehood for political capital.

Teachers’ Strike In Mashonaland East Well On Course Despite Threats And Intimidation from CIOs

By Own Correspondent| The Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe has said the job action which started today Tuesday is on course with most of its membership in Mashonaland East participating in the announced stay away.

In a report issued by the PTUZ on the job action, the organisation said:

Report on job action in Mashonaland East

We have conducted a survey in Mash East and we are pleased to report that the stay away over salaries is very successful in all areas.

Teachers have responded in their numbers to express their dissatisfaction over salaries. In Chikomba almost 90% of teachers are away from work.

The same scenario is also shared by Mudzi Mutoko and Seke. In Marondera around 70% of teachers are away. This is also shared by Seke and UMP. Goromonzi Murewa and and Wedza it is 80% of teachers who are at home.

The remainder which is around 20% on average is attributed to fear and those without unions. Generally the action has started well with no incident so far recorded except a cases of party vehicles and security agents who are making unannounced visits.

These “visitors “ have nothing to do with us but they are sure out of bounds. Our hope is that government will come up with a competitive offer to allow for normal learning.

Otherwise we urge all our members to be in their homes relaxing with their kids they are failing to pay fees for. Please do some in house teaching.Never be fooled by media. We are right on track.

Tomorrow will be a better day.We smell victory. Together we can

Mnangagwa Secretly Sends Mutsvangwa To Zambia With “Special Message”

Paul Nyathi|President Emmerson Mnangagwa this week secretly dispatched his right-hand man Christopher Mutsvangwa to Zambian President Edgar Lungu to deliver a yet to be established “special message.”

The Zambian State House Press Office revealed in a Facebook post on Tuesday that Lungu hosted Mutsvangwa at the State House with the special message.

“President Edgar Lungu poses for a photo with Zimbabwe’s Special Advisor to President Emmerson Mnangagwa, Ambassador Christopher Mutsvangwa, shortly after he was presented with a special message at State House on Tuesday, 5th February, 2019,” revealed the state mouth piece.

See the image below:

Mutsvangwa, who this week disclosed that he had just recovered from an unspecified surgery, is also Chairperson of the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association.

Chiwenga Missing In Pictures At Cabinet Media Briefing

Below are impeccable pictures from the cabinet meeting today which suggest that contrary to state media claims that Emmerson Mnangagwa’s deputy Constantino Chiwenga attended the cabinet media briefing, the man was nowhere near the building. The ZBC report on Tuesday, sought to dismiss reports that the general who removed former president Robert Mugabe, was flown to South Africa at the weekend. Below were the pictures taken by social news site, 263Chat:

Jonathan Moyo Rubbishes Zbc TV Picture Of Chiwenga At Cabinet, “You Are An Audiovisual Media.”

Mnangagwa is flanked by Chiwenga, Mohadi and Misheck Sibanda in a photo published by The Herald.

Own Correspondent|State Media and government information officials claim that Vice President Constantino Chiwenga today attended a cabinet meeting together with President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Top of the revelations was one by the Herald Newspaper and copied by the ZBC News on its Twitter page.

The revelation comes after media reports had indicated that Chiwenga was airlifted to South Africa on Friday evening on medical grounds. Chiwenga was said to have been admitted at Cape Town’s Groote Schuur Hospital. However, South Africa’s Health Department in the Cape rejected those claims.

The post by the ZBC News read as follows:

Vice President Retired General Dr Constantino Chiwenga attends today’s Cabinet meeting, together with VP Kembo Mohadi, President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Dr Misheck Sibanda!

However, former Higher and Tertiary Education Minister Jonathan Moyo was quick to query the photo posted by ZBC News. Writing on microblogging site Twitter, Moyo said:

Good show. But did you take these pictures? Relying on still photographs whose images are exactly the same like those used by @HeraldZimbabwe, and posting them at the same time, smacks of propaganda; and does not help your case as an audiovisual company. This was for @InfoMinZW!

7PM UPDATE: ZBC Fails To Produce Video Of Chiwenga Laughing Off Hot-Rumours Of His Own Poor Health

The ZANU PF controlled, Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation, ZBC as at 7pm Tuesday, failed to produce evidence of Emmerson Mnangagwa’s deputy Constantino Chiwenga laughing off reports of his health crisis at the weekend. A comment from the head of production was fruitless at the time of writing while beyond the below picture, ZBC only produced the following boneless-article:

ZBC: A fit Vice President Constantino Chiwenga was today in cabinet undertaking his daily routine, putting to bed malicious and mischievous social media claims that he was on his deathbed in a South African hospital.

Yesterday, some people in South Africa reportedly held demonstrations outside what they believed to be the hospital admitting the Vice President, but the sturdy health status of Dr Chiwenga contradicts a lie that had been sold out that all is not well in government and the ruling Zanu PF party.

The purported demonstrations also appeared to paint a tarnished image on Zanu PF outside the country, and they made it clear that demonstrations have since become a fashionable medium of desperate politics.

An amused Dr Chiwenga laughed off his health status claims as he set aside a few minutes to exclusively speak to the ZBC News at his Munhumutapa offices in Harare after Tuesday’s cabinet seating.

The hospital allegedly said to be where he is admitted has since dismissed attending to him as a patient while South African opposition political outfit, EFF has out rightly distanced itself from mobilising the people who demonstrated outside the hospital in Cape Town.

A jovial Vice President Chiwenga had a lighter interaction with the ZBC News, emphasising the centrality of understanding the history of the liberation struggle to the well being of Zimbabweans, especially the youths.

After realising that the Cape Town hoax was running out of steam and was soon to be exposed, the originators of the baseless stories had already crafted another ruse, claiming that the Vice President had been airlifted to a Russian hospital.

Social media continues to be abused in the peddling of falsehood for political capital.

Musona Recovers From Chicken Pox, Returns To Training

Own Correspondent|Knowledge Musona has recovered from chickenpox which saw him miss the last two games.

The Warriors skipper had played one game after his arrival at Sporting Lokeren last month on loan from Anderlecht.

According to Walfoot.be, a Belgian football website, Musona started training this week and could feature against Antwerp on Saturday. His availability will bring another option in the attacking third as his team searches for the first victory in five games.

Lokeren is fighting relegation and currently occupies the bottom position.

ZIFA Warriors Tickets To Be Sold Only Online, Here Is How To Do It.

Are you looking to buy tickets for the Warriors vs Congo match on the 24th of March? If the answer is “Yes” you don’t need to stress yourself as the tickets are now available at ZIFA offices and other outlets for physical copies as well as ZIFA website and Click and Pay website for electronic copies.

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) have embraced modern online technology by availing the Warriors Afcon Qualifier tickets for the first time through the Click and Pay platform where fans can purchase their tickets via their mobile gadgets.

No need to wait for the matchday to procure your ticket.

The Zimbabwe National Football team, the Warriors are set to square off against Congo Brazzaville in their hotly anticipated final qualifier group game at the National Sports stadium on the 24th of March.

The Warriors are short of a point to qualify for the 2019 AFCON Cup to be held in Egypt.

And ahead of the game, ZIFA announced for the first time that it would be selling pre-match tickets both physically and online through the Click and Pay platform.

However, with the local football fraternity relatively new to this technologically advanced system, SportBrief caught up with Click and Pay CEO Lee Masuka to get an understanding of how this platform is going to work.

“If you go to www.clickandplayafrica.com you will see the Zimbabwe vs Congo game, there’s a banner there so you just select the category. We’ve got the rest of the ground where you have gate 1 and 2, gate 3 and 4, gate 6 and 7 and 8 and 9,” said Masuku.

“You select any gate you want and then the number of tickets that you want. The moment you select add to cart, you will be directed to a page where you select the payment channel that you want. There is Ecocash, Telecash, Mastercard, Visa card, Zimswitch and you can select any of these payment methods from any country,” Masuku added.

As the bulk of the public are more synonymous with using Ecocash for their day to day transactions, the CEO gave a vivid example of how the Ecocash transaction can be made.

“I will give you an example of (how to pay via) Ecocash. If you use Ecocash the system will actually ask you for the Ecocash number, so the moment you now say check out, it will ask you for the pin on your phone. You have to have your pin ready so you enter the pin on the phone and you receive the ticket on your email.”

“We use the email because it’s secure and we also believe that even if you lose your phone you can still access your ticket through your email. When you come to the match, you come with your ticket either through your phone or you print it out from your email and we scan it.”

The CEO also moved to allay fears that the online ticket buyer’s Visa card credentials may be compromised or that someone may manipulate the system to gain free entry saying; “For us to be actually certified to do Visa transactions there were tests that were done so we are PCI (Peripheral Component Interconnect) and DSS compliant (Decision Support System). We may not be certified but we are approved to do the transaction. We also use SSL ( Secure Sockets Layer) on our website so your information is not kept with us, therefore it’s very difficult to crack and therefore it’s very secure.”

ED, Chamisa To Meet This Thursday Morning Over Breakfast?

Own Correspondent|Latest local media reports claim that President Emmerson Mnangagwa and opposition leader Nelson Chamisa of the MDC are this Thursday expected to meet in Harare over breakfast for “national dialogue.”

According to the reports, one of the initiators of this convergence is the general-secretary of the Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC), the Revd Dr Kenneth Mtata.

Dr. Mtata made news headlines last week when he pulled out of President Mnangagwa’s 24-member Presidential Advisory Council shortly after learning of his appointment.

Dr. Mtata excused himself from the Council, saying he was committed elsewhere but would continue to serve his country in various capacities. He said that he had not been consulted beforehand, although he expressed support for the government’s nation-building agenda.

He issued a statement, saying: “I feel really flattered to be invited to serve the nation and President in such a role in a moment as this. My current position will, however, limit effective functioning in such a huge role. I have therefore humbly withdrawn my name.”

Now, Dr. Mtata is the one being credited by the churches’ website as having initiated the National Dialogue Breakfast after he wrote on social media on Monday evening: “We had dialogue in 1979, and a new Zimbabwe was born. We had dialogue in 1987, and had the Unity Accord. Had dialogue in 2009, and got a government of national unity. We had a wide engagement in 2013, and got a new constitution.

“Though imperfect, we always benefited from dialogue.”

The invitation by Churches in Zimbabwe targets President Mnangagwa and 200 leading political figures to the “National Dialogue” prayer breakfast.

The aim is to unite opposing factions around the ideal of achieving “long-term peace, unity, justice, and prosperity for all Zimbabweans”.

Both President Mnangagwa and Advocate Nelson Chamisa’s offices have yet to confirm their attendance.

Mliswa Reacts To $400 000 Bribery Allegations, “Smear Campaign Begins.”

Temba Mliswa

Norton Member of Parliament Temba Mliswa has rubbished as smear campaign reports that he wanted a bribe from  businessman James Ross Goddard who wanted to mine coal at Hwange Colliery.

Mliswsa is alleged to have connived with three other legislators in demanding an amount to the tune of $400 000 as  facilitation fee.

“And so the smear campaign begins. Not that I can say this is unexpected, I’m sure we all saw something of this nature coming. Ok so if JRG was bribed, why didn’t he attempt to set us up instead of a hearsay report in response to my allegations?” Said Mliswa.

Goddard is said to have alerted Police Commissioner General Godwin Matanga and Vice President Kembo Mohadi after the alleged incident.

Mliswa demanded the evidence of the allegations and said he is determined to go to court over the allegations of corruption which he leveled against Mohadi on Twitter. Mohadi’s lawyers threatened Mliswa with legal action if he did not retract his statement.

“Where’s the evidence? In fact now that this bribe story is being published now, it gives credence to the fact that Hon VP has something to hide. Never mind I’ll not be swayed, it’s off to court we go

“I’ll also be suing the Herald for publishing something baseless, reporting should be factual and media need to stop being used to print falsehoods. Why did JRG waste an opportunity to trap? Investigations must continue, I’m used to this.

“This story has been around for a while and records in Parliament will prove that Tundiya denied this accusation on record with Hon. Paradza further admitting it was just pub talk.

“This is not a headline, the best headline is yet to come when the evidence against the Hon. V. P. Mohadi is released.” Mliswa threatened.

Tourist Drowns While Attempting To Swim At The Vic Falls Boiling Point

The Zimbabwe Republic Police is attempting to retrieve the body of a white man discovered along Victoria Falls gorges with the sub-aqua team expected to lead the process.

The body was discovered today floating along the Zambezi River less than 400 metres from the Victoria Falls Bridge.

It is alleged that the man whose identity is not yet known, was swimming near the waterfall at a spot referred to as the boiling pot where the river turns and heads down the Batoka Gorge and was swept away by the current.

The ZRP team was at the scene to carry out investigations and to lead the process of retrieving the body.

Tourism operators rescue teams also offered to assist in the process.

The gorges and the strong current have made the process of retrieving the body difficult.

The police had to halt the process to allow their sub-aqua team from Bulawayo to come and lead the effort.

It is still not clear at the moment whether the man was a tourist on holiday or a Victoria Falls resident.

Police and other civil protection officials are attending to the scene and the process to retrieve the body is expected to resume upon the arrival of the sub-aqua team.

FULL TEXT: ZESN Calls For A Multi-Stakeholder Taskforce To Spearhead Electoral Reforms

The Zimbabwe Election Support Network (ZESN) notes the establishment of an inter-ministerial taskforce to address recommendations and issues raised by the various election observer missions and the Motlanthe Commission on the 1 August 2018 shootings.

ZESN however, urges government to set up an inclusive multi stakeholder taskforce comprising of a wide range of key stakeholders such as other political parties that participated in the 2018 harmonised election, churches and civic society groups including representatives of persons with disabilities, youths and women to spearhead electoral and political reforms.

The Motlanthe Commission had recommended the establishment of a multi-party reconciliation initiative, including youth representatives, with national and international mediation to address the root causes of the post-election violence. The Commission also recommended the identification and implementation of strategies for reducing tensions, promoting common understandings of political campaigning, combating criminality, and uplifting communities. ZESN therefore calls for the inclusion of other stakeholders to ensure representation of all electoral stakeholders in the implementation of recommendations by local, regional and international election observers before the 2023 elections.

ZESN identified a number of key areas that require adequate reforms namely enhancing the independence of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission, the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission and other Chapter 12 institutions, reviewing results management and transmission systems, revising provisions around the delimitation of constituencies, tightening provisions on the role of traditional leaders. Furthermore, provisions must be put in place to regulate political parties and enforce the disclosure of sources of funding and the use of campaign funding.

The Network implores the government to strengthen the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission to ensure that it fully delivers on its Constitutional mandate and initiate dialogue that will culminate in initiatives that build and sustain peace in the country to avoid disputed electoral processes in future.

Ford Ranger Found Stripped To A Shell Just Two Hours After Being Stolen

Ford has been asked to do something about the apparent rise of its stolen cars.

South Africans were left in shock on social media after Crime Air Network on Twitter shared pictures of a Ford Ranger that was stripped shortly after being stolen. According to the Twitter page, it only took criminals two hours and 41 minutes to steal the car, drive to their safe house, and reduce it to nothing – apparently for its parts.

It was unclear when and where it was stolen, though it is suspected that it was stolen in Soshanguve, Pretoria.

Though people on social media called for the criminals to be jailed for a long time, some said the owner of the house where the car was found must be arrested as well.

Picture: Crime Air Network on Twitter

@Fredzilla13 wrote: “The owners of those premises should explain how that vehicle ended up in their property, crime will never be clamped if we continue honouring criminals in our communities!” while @TPhoba wrote: “What perpetrates car hijacking is criminals who buy written-off cars at auctions and they don’t want to buy parts from dealers. They opt to place orders for a car to be hijacked and stripped for replacement parts of those cars. So they rebuild damaged cars with parts from hijacked cars.”

Others, however, said though the criminals should be arrested, they also called on Ford to do something about the apparent rise in the theft of Ford cars.

Bank Attaches Kereke’s Rock Foundation Medical Centre

JAILED former Zanu PF Bikita West MP Munyaradzi Kereke is set to lose his Mount Pleasant hospital to settle a $3 million debt owed to a local bank (name withheld), after the financial institution filed a High Court application seeking to attach the infirmary.

Kereke’s company, Fairdrop Trading (Private) Limited, which trades as RMC Hospital, is under judicial management and was cited as the respondent in the court papers.

In the application, the financial institution is seeking permission to prosecute against a company under final judicial management.

“This is an application for leave to execute against the respondent (Fairdrop Trading)’s property in view of the fact that the terms of the order placing it under judicial management and the provisions of Sections 301 (1) of the Companies Act (Chapter 24:03) require all actions and applications and executions of all writs, summons and other process against the respondent company to be stayed and not proceeded with without the leave of the honourable court,” the financial institution said.

According to court papers, in September 2014, the bank obtained a judgment against Kereke’s company for the payment of $3 257 038,49 together with interest at the rate of 28 percent per annum.

“Pursuant to the issuance of the order, applicant caused a writ of execution to be issued against the respondent on the 25th of September 2014.

“Applicant proceeded to attach one of the properties held in the name of Munyaradzi Kereke, one of the judgment debtors called Stand 284 Mount Pleasant Township 11 of Lot 35A Mount Pleasant,” the court heard.

Kereke’s company later applied to be placed under judicial management in 2014, but the bank claims it holds real security over the firm’s immovable property.

“Respondent operates a medical centre which sits on two distinctly registered properties namely Stand 283 Mount Pleasant Township 11 of Lot 35A Mount Pleasant and 284 Mount Pleasant Township 11 of Lot 35A Mount Pleasant.

“Stand 283 is registered in the names of the respondent as indicated … and Stand 284 is registered in the names of … Kereke.

“Applicant can recoup the debt it is owed by the respondent if the two properties are sold in execution,” the court heard.

The bank further claimed that Kereke’s company had shown that it was not committed to paying back the money and that it was abusing the judicial management process by failing to honour its debt.

“For that reason, the applicant ought to be allowed to proceed with execution as it is suffering serious prejudice from the non-payment of the debt.

“The medical centre can therefore be properly sold as a whole single unit as it sits on the two properties. It is on that basis that the applicant has approached this honourable court for relief.”

The medical institution has not yet responded to the application.

“Having realised that young people of today including musicians. In such circumstances, talent goes to waste and I could not just sit and watch them from drug abuse.

“People know me as a traditional healer, but it is important for people to also know that I a champion of morality and community development.

“If these youths are not restrained from abusing drug, they will eventually commit crimes that will land them in jail,” said Sekuru Banda.

He added that his decision to intervene was based on a random research he undertook which proved that most drug abusers were young people.

Sekuru Banda said he at some point he visited Mbare to connect and understand reasons behind substance abuse by young people, a visit that saw him interact with Zimdancehall artists at the popular Chillspot Records.

Gvnt Tightens Security Amid Fears Of Another Shutdown

By Own Correspondent- Government remains fearful of another national shutdown as it plans to tighten the country’s repressive laws, a report by a local publication has claimed.

Last month’s week-long stay away degenerated into riots and looting, and more than a dozen people were killed and hundreds seriously injured.

The Daily News claims to have government documents in its possession which reveal the plan:

Police deployments remain on the ground in order to reassure the citizens of their security. This is particularly so, given the fact that the MDC and other local merchants of regime change are planning to carry out further protests under the so-called National Shutdown II.

It is pertinent to note that efforts are underway to align Posa with the 2013 Constitution. In addition, the government is also alive to the constitutional rights of the citizenry, including the right to protest, as enshrined under section 59 of the Constitution.

The above notwithstanding, the rights can be constitutionally derogated from a citizen on the basis of Article 86 of the Constitution which provides for limitations on rights and freedom for the public good.

Namibian Workers Call On Their Gvnt To Intervene In Zim Crisis

By Own Correspondent| Namibian workers have called upon the country’s president, Hage Geingob to intervene in the deteriorating situation in Zimbabwe.

Geingob is the current chairperson of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

Namibia’s Trade Union Congress (TUC)secretary general Mahongoro Kavihuha said:

The crisis in Zimbabwe started more or less at [the same time of the] election in the DRC. He was eager to talk about the DRC, but when it comes to Zimbabwe, until this stage he is quiet.

… Today, we learned that the vice president of ZCTU was arrested, and many more trade union leaders have been arrested and tortured, including citizens.

… We are aware that the liberation movements are in cahoots regarding oppressing people’s rights and people’s feelings, but I hope that our president will show some degree of being a responsible leader, and call upon his counterpart in Zanu-PF to at least respect human rights.

Most of the regional countries have remained quiet on the government of Zimbabwe’s brutal crackdown on civilians. South Africa’s ruling party, the African National Congress said that it was fully behind the government’s brutal clampdown on protestors which reslted in the death of more than 12 people.

Chamisa Rebukes ZANU PF Youth On Attempts To Create A Sex Scandal For Him

Lorraine Guyo

Paul Nyathi|MDC president Nelson Chamisa has strongly rebuked ZANU PF social media defender Jones Musara over claims that the MDC leader was having an extra-marital affair with a Harare woman and that a nude video of him with the woman had been leaked.

The ZANU-PF propagandist made the claim on his own Facebook page, attaching a photo of Chamisa with a young woman who he accuses of having an affair with Chamisa.

“Chamisa is fixated on (extra-marital affairs) instead of nation building hence he is not Presidential material,” Musara said, attaching a photo.

Chamisa responded: “Please be truthful. This photo was actually taken at some restaurant on Saturday last week where I was having lunch with the legend Thomas Mapfumo. I also had the pleasure of meeting the young musician Enzo of the Kanjiva fame for the first time.

“I don’t expect such embarrassing lies. I don’t even know that girl whom you unfortunately seek to diminish in standing. I’m not that filthy! Ngativake Zimbabwe nerudo kwete kuiputsa neruvengo!”

Chamisa decried the fact that an innocent woman who only asked for a selfie was having her name soiled all for politics.

“I don’t even know the girl personally,” Chamisa said. “Would it be fair to turn away a fellow zimbabwean who request just a selfie? Kuti takosheiko?”

Chamisa added: “Only weak people invest in inventing weak lies and low propaganda.”

The woman who is in the selfie with Chamisa is actually Lorraine Guyo who created a widely circulated social media video titled “Ndinyengei.”

Guyo met Chamisa at a public place and asked for a selfie, which Advocate Chamisa agreed to. Chamisa was last week abused by ZANU PF information official Energy Mutodi who published a selfie and claimed they were discussing engagements with the opposition leader.

The woman who Chamisa appeared on the photo with, is also a known ZANU PF loyalists.

All those who own bikes are to go to the district offices and register, as well as license their bicycles.

Motto of HSH, which runs this temple, is: To promote and preserve the Hindu religious and cultural heritage and to strive for inter-religious harmony, understanding, and universal brotherhood.

HSH also runs Ridgeview Shree Omkar Mandir (whose 25th anniversary was celebrated in 2017), Westridge High School (“character building” is one of whose missions), Westridge Primary School, Gujarati School (foundation stone laid in1928), Mahila Mandal, Shishu Mandal and Yuvak Mandal.

It conducts various bhajan events, twice-weekly yoga classes, Hindi lessons, cultural/social activities; organizes daily aarti at both the temples, Havan on Sundays; and offers funeral assistance for bereaved families; etc.; reports suggest.

Meanwhile, Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, commended efforts of HSH and Zimbabwe Hindu community towards realizing, maintaining and running this Hindu temple and conducting various activities around it. Rajan Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, further said that it was important to pass on Hindu spirituality, concepts and traditions to coming generations amidst so many distractions in the consumerist society and hoped that this temple would help in this direction.

Zed stressed that instead of running after materialism; we should focus on inner search and realization of Self and work towards achieving moksh (liberation), which was the goal of Hinduism. Hinduism is the oldest and third largest religion of the world with about 1.1 billion adherents.

MDC’s Eddie Cross Says Bond Notes Is Africa’s Strongest Currency

Jane Mlambo| Opposition MDC Economic Secretary, Eddie Cross has dashed to the defence of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration and Finance Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube saying their economic policies are bearing fruits.

In an interview with ZBC, Cross also said the bond note is the strongest currency in Africa.

The surrogate bond note has been widely condemned for extinguishing the economy after chasing away the little foreign currency that remained in the market.

“The underlying economy is growing. Exports are growing. The fundamentals are strong. The bond note is the strongest “currency” in the SADC region because it is a currency. This indicates the underlying strength of the Zimbabwe economy despite the current problems..”Eddie Cross

Doctor Narrates Why He Checks A Patient’s Facebook Before Telling Their Death To Next Of Kin

Most of us have lost a loved one at some point in time. Needless to say, it’s hard to imagine anything more heartbreaking or gut-wrenching. While the emotional impact can’t be disregarded, there’s also the effect that it has on the health professionals who likely spent time with the person before they died. One doctor shared his unique perspective.

The people who work in hospitals are real pros.

Emergency room doctors deal with life and death situations every day, coolly making the decisions that could help save a life. You might think they get desensitized — but according to a viral post, they absolutely do not.

This is Louis M. Profeta, MD.

LinkedIn | Louis M. Profeta MD

Dr. Profeta works as an emergency room physician in Indianapolis, but he’s also written about his perspectives and has even given a TED talk where he discusses what it’s really like to work on the front lines of the emergency room.

In a post, he said something surprising.

YouTube | TEDx Talks

Dr. Profeta wrote a piece on LinkedIn with the title, “I’ll look at your Facebook profile before I tell your mother you’re dead.” This might sound a little odd — but hear him out.

“In about five minutes, they will never be the same, they will never be happy again.”

The enormity of this responsibility, telling someone’s parents that their son or daughter has died, is one that Dr. Profeta takes very seriously. He describes what it is like to not know who the victim was:

“Right now, to be honest, you’re just a nameless dead body that feels like a wet bag of newspapers that we have been pounding on, sticking IV lines and tubes and needles in, trying desperately to save you. There’s no motion, no life, nothing to tell me you once had dreams or aspirations.”

He says he owes it to family members.

“I know nothing about you,” he writes. “I owe it to your mom to peek inside of your once-living world.” He goes on to say that doing this gives him insights about what caused an untimely death.

This information provides context.

Dr. Profeta says that this glimpse into the world of a recently deceased person gives him an idea of what kind of person he’s been treating. It differentiates them from just being a body.

It sounds difficult, but necessary.

“I see your smile, how it should be, the color of eyes when they are filled with life, your time on the beach, blowing out candles, Christmas at Grandma’s…”

Knowing this information helps Dr. Profeta show compassion.

It’s an intensely difficult job telling the next of kin that their loved one is gone, whether the information is coming from a doctor or a police officer. It must be one of the toughest parts of either of these jobs.

He goes into depth and paints a vivid picture of his experience going through the young person’s social media profile.

“I see you wearing the same necklace and earrings that now sit in a specimen cup on the counter, the same ball cap or jacket that has been split open with trauma scissors and pulled under the backboard, the lining stained with blood. Looks like you were wearing it to the U2 concert. I heard it was great.”

Dr. Profeta describes how he sees so many young people die for reasons that can be avoided.

“Maybe you were texting instead of watching the road, or you were drunk when you should have Ubered. Perhaps you snorted heroin or Xanax for the first time or a line of coke, tried meth or popped a Vicodin at the campus party and did a couple shots. Maybe you just rode your bike without a helmet or didn’t heed your parents’ warning when they asked you not to hang out with that “friend,” or to be more cautious when coming to a four-way stop. Maybe you just gave up.”

Compassion is better than anger.

Checking Facebook reminds Dr. Profeta that, “I am talking about a person, someone they love — it quiets the voice in my head that is screaming at you right now shouting: “You —, how could you do this to them, to people you are supposed to love!”

It’s a unique take.

When processing grief, it’s hard to spare a thought for the medical professionals who treated your loved one and ultimately had to be the bearer of bad news. But their perspective is a unique one and shouldn’t be ignored.

What do you think?

YouTube | TEDx Talks

I’d assumed it was tough for doctors to break bad news, but had never thought of them finding ways to show empathy and compassion rather than anger and frustration.

Do you think Dr. Profeta’s stance is odd, or does it make perfect sense?

“Chamisa Won The July 30 Poll”: Tendai Biti

By Own Correspondent| Opposition MDC Deputy National Chairperson Tendai Biti has maintained that party president Nelson Chamisa won the July 2018 poll over ZANU PF’ Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Biti appeared in court on Monday where is being tried on charges of violating the Electoral Act after he allegedly announced that Chamisa had won the July 30 elections before the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) had announced the official results.

Said Biti:

In a normal election run by a normal elections commission, Advocate Nelson Chamisa would be the President right now.

In my statement to the media, I said Chamisa won the elections in Manicaland, Harare, Matabeleland, Masvingo and Bulawayo and Zec did not dispute that in court, except in Mashonaland West province, where the results were not posted outside the polling station.

… Your Worship, I don’t think there is anyone who knows the official figures of the presidential election. Even Mr (Emmerson) Mnangagwa does not know the number of the votes he got.

Biti said that his prosecution was politically-motivated.

Magistrate Gloria Takundwa dismissed Biti’s application for discharge but did not give reasons.-Newsday

“Teachers’ Strike Is Purely A Labour Issue, Not Political”: Raymond Majongwe

By Own Correspondent| Teachers’ strike is purely a labour issue hence no need for government to view this with political lenses, the Secretary-General of the Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ) has said.

Raymond Majongwe said the actions called for by teachers’ unions does not deserve visits or threats from war veterans, youths or state security agents considering that should government heed teachers’ calls for increased salaries, the strike will be called off.

Said Majongwe:

“Reports of war veterans, yoytgs and security agents visting schools are on the rise. In Mashonaland East and West its worse. For the record, the action called for by all unions is purely a labour issue. If government responds properly, all teachers will be at work tomorrow.”

Minister Says There’s No Fuel But Honestly There’s Fuel | WHAT’S GOING ON NOW?

Joram-Gumbo

The minister of energy sharply contradicted himself saying that they fuel supply has stabilized, while also saying that it has not at all stabilised.

He said the fuel supply has stabilised over the past few days after long winding fuel queues resurfaced at service stations in Harare over the weekend.

Minister Joram Gumbo told the state media: “Give us a week, and we would be able to determine whether the situation has stabilised or has gone down or there is still a trend to go up, but as it is right, some, it has stabilised.

“But I think you are quite aware that because of logistical problems and because of the shutdown that took place last (week but one), some of the places which are further from Harare where these oil companies draw their fuel are still to deliver so that it can reach those distant places.”

18-Year-Old Harare Boy Almost Got Away With Killer Zivhu’s Car- Movie Style

A HARARE teenager was arrested yesterday while trying to steal ZANU-PF Member of Parliament for Chivi South Killer Zivhu’s car using Senator Josiah Hungwe’s name.

The 18-year-old – Kingsolom Mlambo – communicated to the unsuspecting Chivi East MP Zivhu while pretending to be Sen Hungwe’s son, Vincent.

The teenager was nabbed by officers from CID Vehicle Theft Squad at Montague Shopping Centre after being driven from a city hotel the initial meeting point where the car was supposed to be surrendered.

Deputy Police Spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest.

“Yes we confirm the arrest of a suspected teenager who wanted to use the name of Senator Hungwe to steal a car.

“More details will be revealed as investigations are underway.”
Police believe there were more people involved in the deal.

Acting on a tip off the detectives tracked the vehicle, a Volvo SUV driven by Zivhu’s driver to the hotel where the suspect was waiting.

The teenager was picked and led to Montague where the driver said he wanted to drop off.

Upon being confronted the visibly shaken Kingsolom said: “I am sorry, I just wanted to use the vehicle for an outing with friends and I wanted to be showing off to them that I have a nice car,” he said pleading with the detectives.

He was however taken to Southerton Police Station for further investigations.

Zivhu said he was saved by an inquiry he made before releasing the car.

“I nearly gave away my car. It was after I made an inquiry into what type of car was required when I realised that they were thieves who wanted to steal my car.

“I then engaged police to ensure that the culprit gets arrested,” said Zivhu.

Your Worship, Even ED Does Not Know The Number Of Votes He Got, Biti Tells Court

“Your Worship, I don’t think there is anyone who knows the official figures of the presidential election. Even Mr (Emmerson) Mnangagwa does not know the number of the votes he got,” Biti told court.

He said he announced the results collected from their agents in nine provinces to put pressure on Zec to release the results, saying delaying the announcement would have given Zec room to manipulate the figures.

Biti added that President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s July 31, 2018 tweet saying he had won the elections before Zec’s announcement was still on his handle and that Zanu PF secretary for legal affairs Munyaradzi Paul Mangwana said the same thing, but they were not arrested.

Biti Says Chamisa Won 9 Out Of 10 Provinces In The July 30 Polls

MDC national vice-chairperson Tendai Biti, who is on trial for allegedly violating the Electoral Act after he announced that his party leader Nelson Chamisa had won the July 30 presidential election, yesterday insisted that the youthful opposition politician had, indeed, won in nine provinces, whose poll tallies were posted at polling stations manned by their party agents.

Biti, who was put to his defence after his application for discharge was dismissed, told magistrate Gloria Takundwa that under normal circumstances, Chamisa would have been declared presidential election winner because, at the time, only Mashonaland West province had outstanding results.

He said he did not announce the results, but simply interpreted what the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission had officially posted outside its polling stations.

Thokozani Khupe Wishes ‘Hypocritical’ Chiwenga A Speedy Recovery

Jane Mlambo| The Thokozani Khupe-led MDC-T has wished Chiwenga a speedy recovery, though the party said they were annoyed by his hypocrisy.

In comment in the Newsday, Khupe’s party said they cannot overlook his hypocrisy to fly out for treatment when ordinary citizens are dying like flies due to lack of adequate and affordable healthcare.

“However, we cannot overlook his hypocrisy and indictment against the very government which he’s number two in the leadership hierarchy. Our people are dying like flies due to lack of access to adequate and affordable healthcare which his government is responsible for destroying over the past 39 years,” the party said.

“It is rather unfortunate that the VP has the audacity to fly outside the country in pursuit of a functional foreign healthcare system yet he willy-nilly fires nurses and doctors requesting for safe working conditions and decent salaries.”

ZAPU Tells South Africa To Deport Chiwenga

Jane Mlambo| Zimbabwe African Peoples Union (ZAPU) has stocked pressure on the underfire South African government to deport Vice President Constantino Chiwenga currently receiving treatment in South Africa saying he should come back home and use the same facility his party neglected and allowed to run down since 1980.

Zapu spokesperson Iphithule Maphosa said if local health facilities are good for ordinary people, they must also be used by top government officials.

“If the facilities in Zimbabwe are good for the ordinary person, they surely are best for the government officials. South Africa must stop the Zanu PF and government looters if at all lives are important. Giving comfort to Chiwenga translates to condoning the mismanagement and rights violations currently taking place in Zimbabwe,” Maphosa said.

“The same Chiwenga once issued a blanket dismissal to striking health workers, further jeopardising an already ailing service for the poor ordinary Zimbabweans.”

ZANU PF Aligned Teachers Attempt To Disrupt Teachers Strike Action

Paul Nyathi|While all other teachers’ representative bodies have agreed to embark on an indefinite strike starting today, the ZANU PF Aligned Zimbabwe National Teachers Union claims to have called off the strike after “striking a deal with the government “

According to State Media government claims to have committed itself to operationalising non-monetary incentives and economic initiatives for the teachers leading to ZINATU calling off the strike.

Primary and Secondary Education Minister Professor Paul Mavima yesterday met the country’s nine teachers unions in an effort to block the intended strike but failed.

Sector-specific issues which the teachers want addressed include acting, head of department and examination allowances; accommodation challenges; corruption within Government when members want to transfer; permission to go on annual leave and annual leave on transfer.

The educators also want their children, at least three per individual, to be exempted from paying school fees at Government institutions.

Prof Mavima said Government was committed to operationalising these initiatives.

“We agreed on actions with regards to teacher welfare issues that are within the purview of the ministry,” he said.

“There are other welfare issues like level of salary that is not within the purview of this ministry. Those are being held at the National Joint Negotiating Council (NJNC) where they are represented by Apex Council. But there are issues where we are advocating for the housing of teachers and strategies to ensure that every teacher has a plot or place where they can build houses or where they can get basic core houses. There are also certain things we can do as Government to empower them economically.”

He said task force teams were put in place to ensure implementation of agreements.

“We didn’t just talk. We set up task teams which include representatives of teachers unions and people within the ministry to ensure that there is actual implementation of everything we agreed on. These task teams have different timelines on delivery. Some of them are immediate recommendations that have to go to other government departments. Others have long time frames but the majority of them I have said before the end of February I would like to see a report back to see how far we have gone in the implementation of these issues. I have said let us meet again before end of March so that we can review progress together,” Prof Mavima said.

He said he hoped all teachers will report for duty today.

“We have made an appeal to the unions to say let us give this negotiation under the NJNC and this process we are doing within the Ministry a chance,” he said.

“We also said the unions themselves are part of national institutions, they should be guided by considerations of a bigger national interest and in this particular case it is the welfare of the learners that should guide them. We had disturbances because of the riots that took place and it ate into the learning time of our learners. We can not continue to lose time for our learners otherwise 2019 academic year will be a wash out. We are hopeful that the teachers around the nation will give this process a chance so that in 2019 we can ensure we have taken care of the welfare of our teachers and learners in the primary and secondary education sector,” added Professor Mavima.

Most teachers unions however did not agree to Minister Mavima’s calls and vowed to proceed with the strike action as from today. Only ZINATU and its sister union Teachers Union of Zimbabwe claimed to have accepted Minister Mavima’s proposal for further negotiations.

“We clearly understood the Minister’s explanation on the need for unions to further rigorously engage Government on issues to do with conditions of service,” said Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (TUZ) secretary general Godfrey Kanyongo.

“We appreciate the operationalisation of our issues. We therefore would like to inform all our members to exercise patience until we exhaust all the available opportunities. We are therefore advising our members not to strike tomorrow. Let us give dialogue a chance.”

Zinatu’s Manuel Nyawo said: “Dialogue as a process has not been exhausted. There is no deadlock at the moment because if we go on strike technically we will be found on the wrong side of the law. We do not want our members to be found on the wrong side of the law. We are calling upon all our members and those who are for nation building in this country to take our heed. For tomorrow we are distancing ourselves from the industrial action being called by our colleagues.”

Zimbabwe Teachers Association (Zimta) chief executive Mr Sifiso Ndlovu insisted workers affiliated to his union and other unions including the Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe and Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union the country’s biggest unions would down tools.

Teachers are demanding a minimum salary of $1 733, up from $414.

City Of Harare Not Going Backwards On Cycle Licenses

Correspondent|THE Harare City Council has warned cyclists to license their bicycles or risk arrest.

In a move that may prove unpopular with cyclists, the majority of whom are already failing to meet commuter fares to work, Harare City Council spokesperson Mr Michael Chideme said that it is mandatory to license bicycles and defaulters will be arrested.

Said Chideme: “Bicycle owners who use city roads and cycle lanes are advised that the traditional bike licences are mandatory and should be respected.

“Council wants to use the funds to maintain the cycle lanes and attendant services for the cycling public. Over the years, the fee had been neglected and cyclists had assumed it was scrapped off our books.

“All those who own bikes are to go to the district offices and register, as well as license their bicycles.”

Teachers Going On Mass Nation Wide Strike Today

ALL but one teachers’ union have declared that their members would today join a national strike called for by Zimbabwe Teachers’ Association (Zimta) and the Progressive Teachers’ Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ) demanding a pay rise.

The two biggest teachers’ unions decided to go on strike starting today after the Apex Council, a negotiating forum for civil servants, retreated on its earlier decision for industrial action, saying they were open for further dialogue with government.

PTUZ president Takavafira Zhou said only the Zimbabwe National Teachers’ Union (Zinatu) had decided not to go on strike.

“All teacher unions are embarking on strike starting tomorrow [today], minus Zinatu. We have received reports of intimidation by Zanu PF and some [Central Intelligence Organisation operatives] CIOs. We have people who are going in schools telling our teachers that if they don’t report for duty, they will be fired. But we are happy that the resolve among our people is very high,” Zhou said.

“Nine teachers’ unions, which fall under the Federation of Zimbabwe Educators’ Union — PTUZ, Zimta, Amalgamated Rural Teachers’ Union, Zimbabwe Democratic Teachers’ Union and Professional Educators’ Union of Zimbabwe are now on strike. We have been joined by Zimbabwe Rural Teachers’ Union and others,” Zhou said.

Zimta boss Sifiso Ndlovu confirmed the job action.

But it is not the same case with other civil servants as their union leaders said they would engage government for better salaries.

After the National Joint Negotiating Council meeting which failed to deliver a fresh deal for civil servants last week, the Apex Council met with members, trading accusations that some of them were being used by agents against President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s regime.

Civil servants are demanding over $1 700 for the lowest paid worker, but government offered a maximum of $100 pay hike for the lowest paid worker.

Government yesterday, in a veiled threat, announced that it had in excess of 19 000 unemployed teachers and 1 500 who were on the waiting list wanting to be absorbed into the education sector.

Through the Public Service Commission, government said it was looking at methods to accommodate the unemployed educators and plans were already underway to send some of them to neighbouring countries.

Using the same modus operandi, government in April last year dismissed 16 000 striking nurses and called on retired and unemployed healthcare workers to apply for the jobs, only to make a U-turn a week later, withdrawing the dismissal letters and also employing some who had been without jobs.

This was after the nurses rejected a plea from government to return to their posts, while negotiations for a salary adjustment continued.

This year, the government threatened to replace striking junior doctors with interns, who, however, refused to be drafted when approached.

40 Year Old Maid Sexually Abuses 10 Year Old Boy Infects Him With HIV

A 40-year-old Harare housemaid yesterday appeared in court on allegations of sexually abusing her employer’s 10-year-old son and deliberately infecting him with HIV.

Memory Makore, a mother of five from Zvomuya Village under Chief Mangwende in Murehwa appeared before Harare magistrate Mrs Jessy Kufa on two counts of aggravated indecent assault and one count of deliberately transmitting HIV.

She pleaded guilty to two counts and partial plea to third count.

The matter was rolled over to today for production of a medical affidavit. It was alleged that sometime in April last year Makore and the minor were sleeping in the same bedroom, but on separate beds.

The prosecutor Mrs Chipo Matambo said that Makore went to the minor’s bed, undressed and had sex with him without protection. Mrs Matambo said the following month, the minor went to stay with his grandmother in Murehwa and started developing genital warts.

The minor was taken to Murehwa Hospital, where he was treated and given medication. She said during the night of January 31 this year, the minor was with his siblings aged four and eight, and another maid Fadzai Kumula, who was responsible for them. Mrs Matambo said when Kumula retired to bed, she left the complainant playing with Makore.

“Makore, who was already naked, undressed the minor and had unprotected sexual intercourse with him,” she said. The the following morning, Kumula asked the minor what had transpired and he revealed everything to her. Kumula then confronted Makore, who admitted to having sex with the boy.

Kumula told one of the tenants identified as Grace Rusere Mafote, who informed the minor’s mother. The minor narrated how he was sexually abused by Makore to his mother, leading to her arrest.

Mnangagwa Also Announced His Victory Before ZEC’s Declaration, Why Not Arrest Him Too? Biti Challenges Court.

“In a normal election run by a normal elections commission, Advocate Nelson Chamisa would be the President right now. He said the police cherry-picked part of his statement to the media, leaving out other contents in order to incriminate him.

When asked by prosecutor Tafadzwanashe Mpariwa why he announced the results before Zec’s official announcement, Biti told court that Zec had already announced the official results by posting them outside polling stations.

Mpariwa was taken to task by Biti’s lawyer Beatrice Mtetwa after he asked the opposition legislator to compare the results he released to the Press and Zec’s official results.

Mtetwa asked the prosecutor to tell the court the Zec presidential elections official results before Biti could give his own set of results.

Mpariwa failed to, but insisted that Zec’s figures were the official ones.

Biti said his prosecution was politically motivated.

Takundwa postponed the matter to February 18 for ruling, but dismissed Biti’s application for discharge , saying the State had proved a prima facie case against him.

Takundwa did not proffer reasons for dismissing Biti’s application, saying she would provide them in her judgment.

Out Of Sorts Govt Agrees To Let Nurses Work 3 Days Per Week

Dr Gibson Mhlanga

THE Government on Friday granted permission for nurses and other health workers to adjust their working hours to 154 hours monthly which translates to three days a week.

In a letter addressed to Provincial Medical Officers and Chief Executive Officers, the acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Child Care, Dr Gibson Mhlanga, said the proposal would help health workers cope with transport challenges.

According to the proposal, health workers will work a total of 77 hours in two weeks with shifts starting from 7AM up to 7PM.

Dated February 1, the letter said nurses had already started implementing the schedule and it was time other health workers joined.

“Reference is made to minute dated December 7, 2018 where it had been suggested that the implementation of this interim arrangement was to start with nurses and extended to other categories. Heads of institutions who had not yet done so are requested to extend the interim arrangement to other categories of health workers,” said Dr Mhlanga.

He said this will enable the health workers to cope with the current prevailing transport challenges until the environment stabilises.

“It is important that adherence to a minimum 154 working hours per month is maintained and in a manner that ensures continuity in service provision and adequate coverage,” said Dr Mhlanga.

He said members who are not comfortable with the extended working hours will continue with the normal working hours and days.

“You are further advised that members should not use the days not worked in terms of this interim framework to do locum duties,” said Dr Mhlanga.

Govt Recruits New Teachers As Serving Teachers Threaten Strike Action

GOVERNMENT has embarked on a major recruitment drive for teachers amid indications that the there still thousands of students with no teachers for certain subjects especially in remote parts of the country.

In a statement yesterday, PSC chairman Dr Vincent Hungwe confirmed the development.

Last year, the Government said it was in the process of recruiting 3 000 teachers to address manpower shortages affecting the education sector amid reports of rural schools having a teacher-to-pupil ratio of 1-120.

This was affecting the quality of education and its outputs.

“So far, 1 500 names have been submitted to the Public Service Commission for consideration and confirmation. The first batch prioritises schools in the rural areas. Concurrent with the foregoing, the attention of the Commission has been drawn to the plight of (19 993) teachers who completed their training, some as far back as 2012, but have not yet been placed in teaching positions,” he said.

“The Public Service Commission, fully cognisant of the important role that education plays in the attainment of critical national goals, continues to pay close attention to developments in the sector with a view to implementing supportive actions that benefit teachers and learners alike.

“It is not only desirable, but necessary, for ways to be found to close the staffing gap in our schools, where 8 509 posts remain unfilled on account of funding shortfalls. This gap places school children at a disadvantage and retards the attainment of national development goals,” said Dr Hungwe.

He said as the PSC they welcomed a recent decision by Government to provide funds to facilitate the recruitment of 3 000 additional teachers in primary and secondary schools as an interim measure while the request for additional resources to engage more teacher is awaited.

“The Commission also recognises the on-going sterling work by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education in identifying the qualified teaching personnel for specific subjects in all provinces and districts of the country,” said Dr Hungwe.

He said Government and the commission were exploring initiatives to create opportunities for the teachers who were not absorbed under the current recruitment exercise.

“Government and the Commission are also exploring opportunities to place the teachers in Sadc member states and other regions through mutually beneficial and multilateral arrangements.

“Meanwhile, Government and the Commission will continue to create opportunities to employ additional teachers within the confines of the national budget, and as and when other opportunities arise to place them teaching positions locally,” Dr Hungwe said.

The Public Service Commission froze the recruitment of teachers and other professionals in 2014 citing the need for rationalisation.

ZNA Military Attacks On Civilians Exposed By HBOs, Vice News In Moving Video Investigation

Below are excerpts showing-forth evidence that the military spokesman Col Overson Mugwisi was not truthful to ZimEye on the 19th Jan 2019 when he claimed that the uniformed Soldiers attacking civilians are members of the community who stole army uniforms.

When contacted by ZimEye following the attacks he was mum when challenged on how the military could have managed to recover military uniforms in Chegutu and Epworth without arresting anyone.

In the below investigative by the respected HBOs and the Vice news, the pile of visual evidence rises against the state claims. VIDEO EXERPTS:

“Its Not About Regime Change, But Our Living Wage”: Rural Teachers Tell Gvnt

ARTUZ Strike update.

04-02-2019

The Amalgamated Rural Teachers’ Union of Zimbabwe, ARTUZ welcomes all sister teacher Unions for finally coming on board on the ongoing job action for a living wage.

We reiterate our call for salaries in United States dollars. We encourage all teachers to take heed of the ongoing job action as we demand a comprehensive Conditions of Living Adjustment, COLA.

Background

Teachers’ basic salaries were last reviewed in 2012 and by then the salaries were negotiated in United States dollars. Over the years the cost of living has soared with prices of basic services and commodities increasing at a cumulative rate of over 500%.

The government has also reneged on the agreement to pay salaries in United State States dollars and they are now paying in the Real Time Gross Settlement terms. The surrogate currency is performing badly on the market and this has heavily eroded the value of our salaries. The average teacher earns around US$120 per month.

ARTUZ has been consistently demanding a living wage from the pockets out campaign of 2017, the salary caravan from Mutare to Harare launched on the 9th of December 2018 and the Salary Camp at Finance Ministry from 7 to 11 January. The Union of the moment also boldly participated in the National Stay away held from 14 to 16 January 2019.

The Union’s membership has demonstrated unwavering revolutionary character by participating in these campaigns and sustaining the ongoing job action.

State Response.

ARTUZ condemns the dastardly, cowardly and barbaric response of the State to our legitimate call for an upward review of our salaries. The State arrested and detained our members who were participating in the Salary Caravan March from Harare to Mutare, a distance of 275Km.

These members were arrested twice for trumped up charges of disorderly conduct. We salute the participants for remaining resolute and concluding the march against all odds.

The State was at it again on 7 January 2019 when the Union launched the salary camp in Africa Unity Square. 14 members of the Union were arrested but the State could not lay any charges against the teachers.

After the successful National Stay the State abducted, tortured and arbitrarily detained the Union’s President and Secretary General. The duo are still appearing in court facing charges ranging from assault to subverting a constitutionally elected government. We pray for justice for these leaders who spent up to 16 days in confinement and were only released under stringent bail conditions.

The government offered a cushioning allowance of around US$15 which falls far short of our expectations.

Way forward.

The Union encourages all teachers to continue withdrawing their labor. The Union’s decision making body will meet on Saturday 9 February 2019 to evaluate the job action. The meeting will come up with other tactics aimed at compelling our employer to award a COLA.

We encourage Un-Unionized teachers to seize this opportunity and join the Union of the moment so that we speak with one voice. Our Union is providing legal cover to all teachers who will be victimized during this job action. We urge teachers to promptly report victimization to the details captured at the foot of this statement.

ARTUZ is a nonpartisan Union with no intention to capture state power. We note with disgust that the State has labelled us an agent of regime change. Our hands are clean and our intentions are pure, we demand a living wage!

NRZ Doubles Fares, Cite High Costs Of Spares

By Own Correspondent|National  Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) public relations officer Nyasha Maravanyika confirmed the parastatal has hiked fares by 100 percent.

Said Maravanyika

Starting on Monday 4 February 2019, there will be separate fares for children and adults. Single ride fares for adults will go up from 50 cents to $1. How Did A Whole Country Run Out Of Number Plates? Minister Matiza Says Use Temporary IDs

Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Joel Biggie Matiza has announced that motirists unable to register their cars owing to a shortage of number plates should obtain Temporary Identification Cards (TICs) for indefinite use as Government works on addressing the matter.

TICs were usually 14 days. Said Matiza: “Any newly-imported vehicles may not be driven on our public roads until and unless they have some form of acceptable and displayed identification documents such as Temporary Identification Cards (TICs).

The validity period of Temporary Identification Cards has with immediate effect, and in consultation with the Commissioner-General of the Zimbabwe Republic Police, been relaxed to run for an indefinite period from the date of issue, and until further notice from the statutory standard 14 days.

“Again and in consultation with the Commissioner-General of the Zimbabwe Republic Police, Government has decided to allow the use of Temporary Identification Cards throughout the country without confining usage to a specific and or confined route, again for an indefinite period from the date of issue until further notice. The foregoing official documents (TICs) are readily available at the Motor Industry Association of Zimbabwe (MIAZ) in all the major cities in the country and at all major border entry points and there should not be any excuse whatever for failure to display them while on our roads.”

Mnangagwa Regime Breaks New Ground: Court Papers Can Now Be Served Online

The newly-gazetted Magistrates (Civil) Courts Rules, coming into effect on February 1, now allow for the serving of court documents digitally.

Statutory Instrument 11 of 2019 simplifies the rules of the court. The new rules provide for service by telegraph, telefacsimile or electronic mail. Order 7 of the rules states that service by electronic means is the same as the usual physical service. Part of the new rules read:

Any process for service may be transmitted by telegraph, telefacsimile or electronic mail and a telegraphic, telefacsimile or electronic mail copy that is served in any of the ways prescribed in this Order shall be of the same effect as if the original had been so served

Mr Wellington Pasipanodya of Manase & Manase Legal Practitioners welcomed the development as he spoke to the state media. He however said those in rural communities where there is poor transmission, may not fully benefit from the new provision.

“The new rules as well as this provision (electronic service) are a welcome development in line with the international standard of embracing ICT and the digital age.

“Further, this proviso also effectively deals with litigants who try to evade service of process, and those who employ delaying tactics in an effort to frustrate the other party.”

However, Mr Pasipanodya said those in rural communities where there is no access to Internet, may not fully benefit from the new provision.

“The downside is that of the rural folk and marginalised groups who have no access to data services. Some areas have poor transmission and people from such places can also witness a drastic increase in default judgments, which can have an adverse effect to the gains envisaged by this provisions,” he said.- state media

Chisora Set To Fight Parker

LONDON — Joseph Parker’s team have been contacted about a potential fight with Zimbabwe-born British heavyweight boxer Derek Chisora and hope to open talks this week about a return to Britain.

The New Zealander ended the year with a knockout win over Alexander Flores in Christchurch, but could be heading back to the UK for a heavyweight battle with Chisora.

Promoter David Higgins confirmed Parker would be interested in fighting the Londoner as the 26-year-old targets more big-name fights after losing his WBO belt to Anthony Joshua in March last year.

“Like most top heavyweights, Joseph will be willing to fight anyone,” Higgins told Sky Sports. “I see Eddie Hearn mentioning Chisora publicly.

“If the deal was right, then sure enough, Joseph certainly will not back away from anyone. It will be interesting to see how that pans out.

“There’s been one email from Eddie. No detailed discussion whatsoever.

“As I say, Joseph would be willing to step in with anyone, provided it’s the right terms.

“I’m hoping to speak to Eddie this week.”

Both fighters suffered defeats to Dillian Whyte last year, with Parker losing on points in the summer, while Chisora was stopped in the 11th round of their December rematch.

But Higgins is confident Parker would avoid another setback, having maintained his fitness during the festive season.

“Yes, he had a very good off-season, he’s kept in shape,” Higgins said.

“(It is) Probably the best I’ve seen him, so he’s ready to get in camp as soon as the right deal is put in place.”

Video Of Chiwenga Saying Doctors Are Not Employees, They Are Just Occupants, Resurfaces

Constantino Chiwenga

By Farai D Hove| The video of Emmerson Mnangagwa’s deputy Constantino Chiwenga saying that doctors are not employees, they are just occupants, has resurfaced.

In the footage below taken a month ago, Chiwenga is heard saying: “the doctor is a skilled technician, or labourer whose knowledge fits him for an Occupation but not a Profession…” He said this as he refused to heed requests for doctors to be paid more than their monthly $86 salary.
