By Paul Nyathi|NewsDay reporter Blessed Mhlanga has officially been slapped with assault charges on Deputy Finance Minister Terrence Mukupe on an incident which occured almost two weeks ago.
Mukupe filed the assault charges against the journalist in Harare.
The scuffle between Mukupe and Mhlanga happened at the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) SFM radio studio on the 24th of May.
Both the minister and the scribe were invited to discuss a headline story in the NewsDay written by reporter quoting Mukupe saying the military wouldn’t let Nelson Chamisa rule in the event that he won the forthcoming election.
Information available said it was Mukupe who stood up during a live radio programme accusing the journalist of intimidating him and grabbed him by his shoulders whilst one of his aides tried to restrain the minister.
It was during the scuffle that Mhlanga’s wife, Florence, whipped out her mobile phone to record the wrestling.
Mukupe then instructed his aides to seize the Samsung S7 phone from her and he (Mukupe) later pushed her into the corner.
Mhlanga is expected to appear in court soon on the charges.
MDC Alliance leader, Nelson Chamisa yesterday said if elected to power next month, he will only serve one term and pass on the baton.
“It is possible for us to change this economy, do not give me five years, in just three years, I will be announcing my retirement and it is you who will be forcing me, saying please hang in there, because life will be enjoyable,” he told thousands of party supporters at Mahusekwa Growth Point on the fourth leg of his campaign mission in Mashonaland East province.
Chamisa accused President Emmerson Mnangagwa of mortgaging the country’s resources for political gain through his “Zimbabwe is open for business” mantra.
He said Mnangagwa was wary of the challenge posed by the united opposition, hence, his decision to “sell the country” by exposing its resources to criminals.
“You heard my brother, Mnangagwa say Zimbabwe is open for business, I said my brother, do not use unnecessary English statements, you will sell this country in broad daylight. He is on the brink of selling this country. You cannot open business to everyone, you attract enemies. The mantra should be Zimbabwe is best for business, or safe for business,” Chamisa said.
He said MDC Alliance will not be hoodwinked into participating in flawed elections, hence, their demand for electoral reforms ahead of the polls.
“We are not going to allow rigging this time, we are closely monitoring the situation. There are no elections without reforms,” Chamisa said.
Media Statement|As part of efforts to push for credible polls, Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition (CiZC) has intensified regional advocacy campaigns by engaging the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security to urgently look into the Zimbabwean crisis ahead of the 2018 elections.
On May 30, 2018, a CiZC delegation held a meeting with the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security at the SADC Headquarters in Gaborone, Botswana explaining the current Zimbabwean situation and its possible implications on the credibility of the 2018 polls set to be held on July 30, 2018.
The delegation also submitted a letter outlining civil society demands ahead of the 2018 polls to the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Director, Retired Lieutenant-Colonel Tanki Mothae.
In the letter, which was also copied to the SADC Executive Secretary, Dr. Stergomena Lawrence Tax, CiZC implored the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security to ensure the upcoming 2018 polls in Zimbabwe meet the SADC Principles and Guidelines Governing Democratic Elections.
The submission by CiZC takes into consideration the fact that Zimbabwe has a history of sham polls and little has been done to avoid a repeat of yet another disputed election.
CiZC raised concern that various election observer missions, including the SADC Election Observer Mission (SEOM) to Zimbabwe’s July 2013 general elections, highlighted some shortcomings regarding Zimbabwe’s electoral processes yet some of these issues remain unresolved and unattended.
The letter explicitly stated that the current government in Zimbabwe, led by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, lacks legitimacy as it came in through a military coup disguised as ‘Operation Restore Legacy’.
The letter stated that since the coming in of the new government, there has been increased militarization of state institutions including the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) which has proved to be a captured institution that largely lacks the capability to run free, fair and credible polls.
Concern was also raised that ZEC was largely lacking in terms of transparency and accountability.
The letter noted several irregularities ahead of the elections and warned that unless these are addressed, Zimbabwe could be headed for yet another sham election.
“While Zimbabwe is set to hold elections during the second half of 2018 we raise key concerns around inadequacies on the part of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission to administer a credible electoral process. The involvement of the military and traditional leaders in elections remains unaddressed.
“Based on pronouncements by the current government, there are valid fears that the 2018 elections will be highly militarized and traditional leaders are continuing on a partisan path to influence electoral outcomes in violation of Section 208 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe which bars the former from engaging in partisan politics,” read part of the letter.
Regarding amendments to Zimbabwe’s Electoral Act, CiZC in its letter submitted that ‘the recent amendments to the Electoral Act do not represent the views espoused by citizens and civil society organizations as captured in previous documents submitted to ZEC and Parliament by civil society and that such amendments do not reflect the spirit and letter of genuine alignment of the Act with the Constitution’.
CiZC also submitted that the State media has largely been acting as a mouthpiece of the ruling party ahead of the 2018 elections and that law enforcement agents continue to use draconian legislation such as the Public Order and Security Act (POSA) and the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act (AIPPA) to stifle fundamental freedoms.
In light of the challenges highlighted in the letter, CiZC made the following submissions to the SADC Organ on Defence and Security;
a) That the military must reassert its commitment to upholding and protecting the constitution with respect to elections and electoral processes.
b) That ZEC conducts itself in a transparent, accountable, professional, non-partisan and autonomous manner in all electoral processes. In this regard, civil society implores ZEC to publish names of its secretariat, their previous employers, experience and qualifications. This also includes publication of office bearers of the Elections Logistics Committee in the interest of transparency and accountability.
c) That ZEC and the government ensure there is fair and equal access to public media by all competing political parties and candidates while ensuring that media practitioners and journalists are allowed to operate freely as enshrined under Section 61 of our Constitution.
d) That ZEC, through its designated committees, and other concerned authorities, give unfettered access to key electoral processes to local, regional and international observers without undue restrictions such as imposition of prohibitive accreditation fees, criminalization of domestic observers, or cherry picking of regional and international ones.
e) That ZEC, in line with the law principally and expeditiously avails the bio-metric voters’ roll to all stakeholders particularly contesting political players and other election related bodies once it is ready and clear times for such provisions be shared and committed to
f) That ZEC urgently avails a clear and precise 2018 election road-map to all stakeholders in line with the principle of transparency and accountability
g) That voter preferences take place without cohesion, manipulation or intimidation and the insulation of this choice through effective secrecy of the ballot.
h) That the Police and prosecuting authorities allow civil society organizations and citizens to carry out their lawful activities without harassment, raids, restrictions and unwarranted arrests spurred more by political calculations than the dictates of the law.
By Discent Bajila|I have studied Zimbabwe elections from 1899 to date. The first dispute in elections was around 1911 when William Fairbridge prove in court that winning MP Raleigh Grey’s agents were involved in misconduct during the campaigns. The electoral court found that Grey’s agents in Marandellas (now Marondera) had provided free food and drinks to people and invalidated his victory. At that time only white males above the age of 21 with property worth £75 and above could vote.
107 years later, food for votes remains an issue.
The first defection was recorded in 1925 when several MPs from both sides of the House came together and established a new organization which campaigned for depoliticisation of the civil service, end to monopolies, a pro-white immigration policy and the development of Matebeleland.
93 years later some of these issues remain topical electoral debates.
The first primary elections were held by ZANU PF in 1990. Several party bigwigs including Joyce Mujuru, lost in their constituencies that year but rules were changed to ensure that they stand despite the fact that they lost.
28 years later we still have the same problem with primary elections.
Truly, the more things change, the more they become the same.
If in 1925, some rich white people understood that there’s need to treat development in Matebeleland differently and if in 1925 some people who ruled by conquest still understood that it was important to demilitarise the civil service, why are we having these issues still on the table today?
If primary elections in 2018, are giving us the problems they gave us in 1990 and we are still stuck with 1990 solutions, why haven’t we developed other methods of candidate selection?
We can do better, we must do better.

In his official Facebook page Mnangagwa claimed that the demonstration was a sign of renewed democracy in the country.
Wrote President Mnangagwa:

I once again state loudly and clearly my commitment to free and fair elections, and call on all sides to campaign peacefully as we move towards the harmonised elections.
Let us on all sides allow our brothers and sisters to differ with us, but never resort to violence!

The event will be held at the Robert Mugabe Square.
The league’s national commissar,Godfrey Tsenengamu told the state media that all youths and the generality of peace-loving Zimbabweans should come and attend the event.
“We are inviting all youths and all progressive Zimbabweans to come and pray for peace in support of the call by President Mnangagwa that our coming elections should be peaceful and violence-free,” he said.
“We have organised the rally for all peace-loving Zimbabwe and we are working together with our youth league leadership in Harare.”
Police have cleared the event. In a letter dated June 5 2018, Officer Commanding Harare Central District Chief Superintendent Albert Ncube said: “Your notification letter to hold peaceful march on the 06th June 2018 at the Robert Mugabe Square from 10 00 hours to 15 00 hours in solidarity with the President’s call for peace before, during and after the 2018 harmonised elections has been noted.
“However, I regret to advise that you may not pass past Munhumutapa building for security reasons.”
Chief Spt Ncube said police would not hesitate to invoke relevant provisions of the law should the marchers violate conditions set by the police.
The march was initially set for Tuesday, but was moved to today after police said it would coincide with an MDC-Alliance demonstration on the same day.
In a message inviting youths to the event, Zanu-PF Harare provincial youth league secretary for administration Kudakwashe Masamvi said: “We are going to march in solidarity with the President’s call for peace before, during and after the harmonised elections.

HARARE City Council has approached the High Court, seeking an order to demolish hundreds of illegal structures built in Kuwadzana 3 by members of Sekusile Housing Co-operative, arguing the land in question belonged to a local financial institution.
Acting town clerk, Hosiah Chisango, filed an application at the High Court on May 31, seeking a spoliation order to interdict Sekusile Housing Co-operative members from occupying the land.
Chisango said the pieces of land known as stands number 21510 and 21511 Kuwadzana Township of Fontainebleau in Kuwadzana Phase 3 are supposed to be vacant and undeveloped, but have been occupied by illegal settlers.
“The applicant (City of Harare) had undisturbed peaceful possession at all material times of the land in que stion. The applicant has sold the land in question to FBC Building Society in terms of the agreement of sale attached hereto as Annexure A,” Chisango said in his affidavit.
“The applicant, upon making efforts to deliver the land in question to FBC Building Society on May 22, 2018, discovered that the respondent (Sekusile Housing Co-operative) and those claiming title under it are in unlawful occupation and despoiled the applicant of its peaceful possession.”
According to Chisango, Sekusile Housing Co-operative is not known to the council and was never at any stage granted the right to occupy or possess the land in question. The acting town clerk also said the co-operative members were wrongfully interfering with the council’s possession of the land.
“There is no doubt that there is irreparable injury being committed by the respondent. The applicant and a third party are suffering harm, which may result in consequences, as it may be found to be in breach of its agreement with FBC Building Society. The applicant may lose revenue that it has gained from the intrinsic value for the land that the FBC Building Society paid,” he said.
“There is no other competent remedy available to the applicant. The applicant has, therefore, been left with no other option, but to approach this honourable court for relief.” The matter is yet to be set down for hearing.
Just at a time when he is claiming to be democratic, President Emmerson Mnangagwa has shot into MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa to destroy him, violating all data privacy – his spokesman George Charamba has leaked a private letter and done this in order to destroy Chamisa’s character. In the development, he has leaked the below letter written to him in March. PICTURE:
No electoral reforms no elections: new game, new rules.
By Fred Muchaiwa| After the peaceful electoral reforms demonstrations in Harare on Tuesday the 5th of June 2018 and a statement on Mnangagwa’s “no action” position by the American Senator Chris Coons, I bet Mnangagwa is wetting himself from fear. MDC T’s demonstration was a statement of intent and certainly it is a new game with new rules altogether. Also Mnangagwa’s effort to persuade investors to a new Zimbabwe is looking bleak as he is failing to implement fundamental factors to boost investor confidence and sanctions relief.
Mnangagwa had a wrong impression in the first place and he was fooling himself to believe that once he deposed Mugabe, his dirty past would vanish with Mugabe. He miscalculated his thoughts by believing that the credit he got from removing Mugabe will guarantee him a comfortable election win and an easy rise to presidency. By pledging to restore democracy and order, Mnangagwa thought that promise alone was enough to convince Zimbabweans and the world that he’s definitely a changed man. He assumed that Zimbabweans and the world are too blind to see that he dumped and disassociated himself from Mugabe but kept Mugabe’s style of governance which is centrally the capturing and militarising of state institutions.
So far in his six months in charge, Mnangagwa has proved that he has something in common with his former boss, Robert Mugabe which is failing to fulfil promises and vapid sloganeering. How on earth can Mnangagwa disassociate himself from Mugabe but keep Mugabe’s style of governance then expect us to believe his new dispensation claims? Zimbabweans are not fools anymore and will never be fooled again. Once bitten, twice shy.
Mnangagwa cannot rush to make us believe he is genuine after toppling his partner in crime Robert Mugabe who many Zimbabweans have labelled the great tormentor and robber of their future and hope. Mugabe was not alone when ruinous and disastrous decisions were made in government and Mnangagwa was Mugabe’s confidant and second-in-command.
The issue of electoral reforms is not a new demand in Zimbabwe’s elections, it dates back to previous years and those calls were vehemently resisted, ignored and the only response was violence.
Now Mnangagwa is trying to depict a new picture by openly inviting election observers from across the divide thinking it is more than enough to suggest and convince us and the world that he is committed to a democratic Zimbabwe forging a free, fair and credible election. Yes, allowing election observers is a good gesture, but it is the first of a dozen of demands on the list. If Mnangagwa has nothing to fear or hide, he should meet these demands and face Chamisa fair and square and that is the only smart and acceptable way to legitimise his government if he wins a free and fair election. Right now this administration lacks credibility to attract investment, tourism and even the return of skilled diasporans scattered across the world.
Mnangagwa is now cornered to the extent that he can no longer shout loud his “Zimbabwe is open for business mantra”. Enough was said now it’s delivery time which is long overdue. Zimbabwe is currently a military state with no record of legitimacy on the world stage. That image can only be improved by implementing an action plan designed to boost the economy within the shortest possible time. Mnangagwa visited countries recently as leader of the new dispensation to try and earn trust and legitimacy but it will never work with the help he got from the army and with the absence of the people’s approval.
Why is Mnangagwa not putting his house in order first, clean up the mess before inviting visitors for dinner? Priorities are always wrong in the ZANU PF way of doing things. Taking over the reigns of power violently after years of dictatorship, misrule and isolation by super powers then suddenly expect re-engagement within a wink is practically impossible. Mnangagwa has a mountain to climb. It’s either reforming himself out of power or stick to rigging machinations he learnt and mastered from the old dispensation because in a free and fair election he will never stand a chance against Chamisa.
If he stands by NIKUV, it means more misery and suffering for Zimbabweans as the elections will not be certified and declared not free and fair by observers. I have no doubt that Mnangagwa is contemplating GNU as the only option to stay in power. Not anymore, Chamisa has said no to getting into bed with ZANU PF. Like I said earlier in this article, this is a new game with new rules.
Former Zanu-PF Secretary for Administration Mr Didymus Mutasa, who was expelled in 2015 over misconduct, is seeking readmission.
Mr Mutasa reportedly wrote to Zanu-PF pledging to work with the new leadership, saying he remained Zanu-PF at heart.
Despite expulsion three years ago, Mr Mutasa said he was ready to start on a fresh page and work for the development of the party and nation.
Zanu-PF Secretary for Administration Cde Obert Mpofu confirmed the development, saying the ruling party would make a decision on the application.
Cde Mpofu said the party will decide on other applications by several others aligned to the G40 cabal who were expelled last year.
“I can confirm receiving a note from Cde Mutasa,” he said.
“We will sit down and consider his request. I can also confirm that quite a number of former Zanu-PF members are coming back home. They have written to us seeking re-admission into the ruling party. “We are dealing with the issues to ensure we accommodate them.”
Among the ex-members who are seeking re-admission are Walter Mzembi, Makhosini Hlongwane, Kudzanai Chipanga and Anastancia Ndlovu.
Mr Mutasa pledged to work with the new dispensation in the event that he was readmitted.
He also pledged to serve the party even if it lost the harmonised election.
Mr Mutasa was expelled from Zanu-PF together with Mr Temba Mliswa on various charges, including undermining the party and its leadership.
Former Zanu-PF Youth League leader KUdzanai Chipanga recently apologised for his links to the G40 cabal and wrote to First Secretary and President Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa seeking re-admission.
He was expelled together with Hlongwane, Mzembi and Ndlovu. The group was expelled from the party and recalled from Parliament for usurping Executive, roles using their proximity to the former First Family.
In a letter to President Mnangagwa, Chipanga said he knew no other political home other than Zanu-PF.
The letter was copied to the two Zanu-PF Second Secretaries Cdes Constantino Chiwenga and Kembo Mohadi, chairperson Cde Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri and Cde Mpofu.
Chipanga admitted his actions had “gone against the dictates of the revolutionary party’s ideology”. “I am very humbled to write to apologise and do hereby beg for re-admission into the party,” he said.
“I know very well that I cannot alter what I did, it pains me that I have caused a mar in my record. I have learnt from my previous mistakes. I am still a young person prone to mistakes and I am still learning the ropes of life. As such, I deeply regret my actions and conduct. I am very sorry to the rank and file of the party for the troubles I caused during my tenure as Secretary for Youth Affairs.
“Words alone cannot express my deep regrets for my actions. I humbly request for the party leadership to kindly overlook my mistakes and forgive me. Your Excellency, I beseech you to pardon me and re-admit me as an ordinary card-carrying member.
“I know no other party other than Zanu-PF. It pains me to be cast outside the party. After going through this letter, I believe you will find room to forgive me.”- state media
SUNGURA maestro Alick Macheso missed the OK Grand Challenge horseracing event held at Borrowdale Racecourse over the weekend allegedly over a poster in which he appeared to curtain raise for artistes twice his juniors.
The no show followed outrage on social media in which fans raised the red flag that OK Grand Challenge had blundered.
On the poster, Jah Prayzah, Winky D and Killer T had been given more prominence.
Most critics blamed OK Zimbabwe’s public relations department for failing to accord Macheso his royal status based on popularity and fortune.
The Orchestra Mberikwazvo leader is arguably the revered king of sungura, a genre which he not only perfected, but also commands a huge following. And naturally, Macheso was the draw card at the OK Grand Challenge where the crowd was predominantly sungura.
A source confirmed that Macheso was not happy with the way he was portrayed by OK Zimbabwe on the poster.
“He’s not a minnow or upstart, he is a big artiste and for him to appear as if he was a curtain raiser at a gig at which he knows he commands a huge following is disrespect,” the source said.
Asked if he had not signed a contract with OK Zimbabwe, the source said the release of poster was timely.
“Just as he was about to sign the contract, that was the time he saw the poster and that killed his vibe. He refused the contract,” he said.
There was outrage over the poster with fans and journalists taking to Facebook to criticise OK Zimbabwe for the blunder.
Wrote one Rutendo Chabururuka: “Macheso is bigger than all these guys. The marketing at OK clearly doesn’t comprehend the meaning carried by font sizes and they must learn and rectify this one immediately.”
“It is common knowledge that many young people will identify with Jah Prayzah and Winky D among others compared to Alick Macheso.
“What is critical to note is the fact that the man of the moment is Jah Prayzah and Winky D, however, Macheso happens to be the best among them as he has a polished act and has seen it all,” Trevor Shumba commented.
“The poster however, might have been designed with the idea of those who have many appearances at the challenge as the greatest and it makes business sense though not industrial sense when it comes to the music domain.”- state media
President Emmerson Mnangagwa has said the MDC Alliance demonstration proves that there is democracy in Zimbabwe.
Mnangagwa’s comments were flighted in the state media as he said this on the sidelines of a meeting with a commonwealth delegation currently visiting Zimbabwe to assess it’s preparedness for free and fair elections.
Mnangagwa was quoted saying this while addressing journalists after holding talks with visiting President of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic, Mr Brahim Ghali at State House on Tuesday evening.
Mnangagwa, ZBC states, said the MDC Alliance is now enjoying the reforms he signed into law recently which allows them to exercise their democratic rights without hindrances.
Free,Fair and Credible Election peace march – Petition
5 JUNE 2018
THE CHIEF ELECTORAL OFFICER
ZIMBABWE ELECTORAL COMMISSION
The Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs
RE: MINIMUM DEMANDS FOR CONDITIONS FOR FREE, FAIR AND CREDIBLE ELECTIONS
We, the undersigned, being members of the MDC Alliance- a grouping of political Parties intending to participate in the 2018 Harmonised Elections- under the leadership of Advocate Nelson Chamisa, and the people of Zimbabwe, hereby present this petition on our redline demands for a free fair legitimate and credible election.
On the 30th of May 2018, President Emmerson Mnangagwa proclaimed the 30th of July 2018 as the date on which elections for the office of President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Members of Parliament of Zimbabwe, Senators and councillors will be conducted (‘harmonised elections’).
1. It is not the intent of this petition to exhaustively deal with the legal framework governing elections in Zimbabwe. It suffices, for present purposes, to state that the contemplated elections will be conducted under the 2013 Zimbabwe Constitution, the Electoral Act, and Chapter 2:13, as amended, as well as the SADC Principles and Guidelines Governing Democratic Elections.
2. We contend that it is obligatory for this election to be held in full compliance of the Zimbabwean Constitution, the Electoral Act Chapter 2:13, the SADC principles and guidelines guiding democratic elections and the African Union Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance (ACDEG).
3. We have made our demands for a free fair and credible election known in our document published in March 2018 known as PEACE
Despite these demands, despite the law, despite verbal commitments to a free, fair and credible election, it is self-evident that the Zimbabweans authorities and the ZEC lack the desire, ability and political will of conducting a free, fair credible election.
It is in this context that we are exercising our peaceful right defined in section 59 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe by marching and presenting this petition on the following demands;
i) All parties, and candidates (and or their representatives) participating in the election, forthwith be furnished with an electronic copy of the provisional voters’ roll as is required by section 21 of the Electoral act Chapter 2:13.
ii) That ZEC, allows an inspection period of the voters’ roll pursuant to fresh registration during the voter inspection period 19 May to 29 May 2018.
iii) That an independent, external audit of the voters’ roll be commenced immediately after the inspection period mentioned above, with the auditors to be agreed by all stakeholders and shareholders.
iv) That there be full and proper agreement by all stakeholders on the procurement, security, quality and movement of all ballot material, in particular, the ballot paper.
v) That the ZEC immediately retires in its secretariat, any security personnel whether currently employed or formerly employed by the security services as defined in Chapter 11 of the Constitution.
vi) That ZEC immediately disbands the present national logistics committee and that there is agreement in the composition, recruitment, training and deployment of the new members of the national logistics committee.
vii) That the current accreditation committee be disbanded and that there is agreement on the recruitment, training and deployment of the new members of the accreditation committee.
viii) That there be full disclosure with regards to the custody and location of the BVR Servers and that all stakeholders be allowed access to validate the legitimacy of the data in those servers.
ix) That the additional 1500 newly created polling stations be and are hereby abandoned and that there be discussion and agreement on additional polling stations if need requires.
x) That all military personal currently deployed in the rural areas be and are hereby recalled and that there should be full and complete de-militarisation of the rural areas.
xi) That all international observers and monitors should now be allowed immediate access to Zimbabwe to monitor the election pursuant to the proclamation of the election on the 30th of May 2018.
xii) That forthwith, there must be equal access to and equal coverage of all political parties in the public media, in particular the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation.
xiii) That there be a provision in terms section 67 of the Constitution to allow the Diaspora to vote even if it means voting only in the presidential election.
xiv) That there be cessation of the use of food and inputs as political weapons in this election
4. The holding of the 30th of July election is dependent on the conditions set out above
Constitutional law expert Professor Lovemore Madhuku says the demands made to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) and government by the MDC Alliance are not legally enforceable as they fall foul of the Constitution.
Professor Madhuku said, the legal route is to seek an amendment to the Constitution and as it stands, now that a proclamation was made, a nomination court will seat within a week and elections will follow on the 30th of next month of which time is not sufficient for a constitutional amendment.
The MDC Alliance today marched in the capital and petitioned ZEC, and the Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, Ziyambi Ziyambi demanding a number of reforms before the election date.
The Alliance demands include full disclosure with regards to the server containing information from the biometric voter registration, access to validate the legitimacy of data in the servers and access to the electronic copy of the provisional voter’s roll.
The demands also include an independent audit of the voters roll, an agreement by Alliance parties on the procurement, security, quality and movement of the ballot material, and the immediate disbanding of the present National Logistics Committee of ZEC.
The MDC Alliance is also demanding an equal access and fair coverage from the national broadcaster and threatened to bring the nation to a standstill with demonstrations.
The United States, Canada and Mexico who are jointly bidding to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Tuesday met with the Zimbabwe government officials and Zimbabwe Football Association to canvas for support during the forthcoming FIFA congress in Russia where members will vote to decide the hosts of the 2026 World Cup.
In an unprecedented show of continental unity, the joint bid if successful, it would be the first finals held in North America since the US hosted the 1994 tournament.
The representative of the joint bid who arrived in the country on Monday were scheduled to meet Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Retired Lieutenant General Sibusiso Moyo and Minister of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation Kazembe Kazembe.
ZIFA president Phillip Chiyangwa said the joint bid representatives were in the country to consult the government and ZIFA and canvass for support for their joint 2026 World Cup bid.
“They met foreign affairs and government of Zimbabwe officials who are happy to support the bid and share their views on the forthcoming FIFA congress and World Cup 2026 election by FIFA congress,” said Chiyangwa.
All three countries are members of the CONCACAF, US soccer the Canadian Soccer Association and the Federación Mexicana de Fútbol.
Speaking during a hastily arranged media conference in the capital the three countries’ representatives said they are confident that they will submit an exemplary bid worthy of bringing the FIFA World Cup back to North America.
All the three countries, United States, Mexico and Canada have individually demonstrated their exceptional abilities to host world-class events.
“When our nations come together as one, as we will for 2026, there is no question the United States, Mexico and Canada will deliver an experience that will celebrate the game and serve players, supporters and partners alike,” said Jim Brown, the MD for the joint bid.
“For the Federación Mexicana de Fútbol, and the entire Mexican soccer family, it is a source of pride to be candidates, along with the United States and Canada, to host the FIFA World Cup in 2026,” said Decio de Maria, Mexican football association representative.
“As such we are filled with pride and committed to make it the best ever. Mexico has been recognized for being a magnificent host of past FIFA events, such as the 1970 and 1986 World Cups, the 1999 Confederations Cup, the 2011 Under-17 World Cup, and most recently the 2016 FIFA congress. If we are selected to host, it will be an honour to welcome everyone with open arms,” added de Maria.
No rival bid has emerged for the 2026 tournament, which is due to be awarded by FIFA in 2020.
FIFA rules currently rule out bidders from Europe and Asia because Russia is staging the World Cup in 2018 and Qatar has the showpiece in 2022.
Organizers say 10 games would be played in Canada and the final will be in the US.
The 2018 men’s World Cup is set for Russia with the 2022 tournament headed to Qatar.
The 2026 tournament will be the first of the expanded format.
The FIFA council agreed in January to expand the current the 32-country tournament to 48 teams split into 16 groups of three.
The top two teams from each group will then advance to a 32-team knockout stage.
Canada is coming off hosting the 2015 Women’s World Cup, deemed a success on and off the field. It has also hosted the 2014 Under 20 Women’s World Cup, the 2007 Under 20 Men’s World Cup, and the 1997 Under 16 Men’s World Cup (now a Under 17 event).
If approved, it would be the First World Cup hosted by three nations and the first jointly hosted World Cup since Korea/Japan 2002.
It would also be the first finals held in North America since the US hosted the 1994 tournament.
Mexico would host matches for the first time since 1986 while it also hosted the 1970 world cup.
By Paul Nyathi|The former President Robert Mugabe backed National Patriotic Front opposition party has given MDC Alliance coalition Presidential candidate Nelson Chamisa a huge thumbs up ahead of the harmonised elections set for end of July this year.
Party spokesperson Jealous Mawarire revealed on Tuesday that the party which is a ruling ZANU PF splinter is giving full support to the young MDC Alliance leader to wrestle power from President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Mawarire made the declaration on the sidelines of a hugely subscribed MDC Alliance organised electoral reforms demonstration held in Harare on Tuesday.
Mawarire hinted that his party will not be fielding a presidential candidate to contest against Chamisa.
“We are indeed backing Chamisa as a party because it is just the right thing to do,” said Mawarire.
Mawarire said that his party members joined the protest march as the party does not recognise the election proclamation made by President Mnangagwa.
“We were part of the protest march because we view Mnangagwa’s election proclaimation as illegal because he made the proclaimation before the voters roll was finalised,” said Mawarire.
Thousands of people took into the streets of Harare bringing to a standstill business in the Central Business District.
The march was a demand for President Mnangagwa and the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission to effect several reforms on the just amended Electoral Act.
The Constitution of Zimbabwe however declares that once an election date has been proclaimed no amendments will be effected on the electoral regulations for that election.
Warriors skipper Ovidy Karuru has been ruled out of the remainder of the COSAFA Cup in South Africa because of an ankle injury.
Karuru was at the receiving end of a nasty tackle in Zimbabwe’s quarterfinal match against Botswana. The Warriors progressed to the semi final stage following a 3-1 victory on penalties after a 1-1 draw.
A member of the Warriors squad at the 2017 Tournament- which Zimbabwe lifted, the 29-year-old was expected to play an attacking role for Chidzambwa’s team in the COSAFA Cup and AFCON qualifiers.

Former radio and television presenter Ezra Tshisa Sibanda has defended popular artist Sandra Ndebele who is being besieged by political observers for openly showing allegiance to Zanu PF.
“Haters and loosers hands off my sister Sandra
Ndebele!
You don’t pay her bills neither do you
attend her shows. Sandra is a musician, she has a
right to perform anytime, anywhere.
Attacks by social media keyboard warriors who don’t
even buy her music mean nothing to Sandra who is
working hard for her own future.
She has to earn a
living and she would be a fool to turn down money
just to please irrelevant people to her life,” wrote Sibanda on Facebook.
“So many
artists have performed at Zanu PF or state
gatherings- including Jah Prayzah, Tuku and others
but haters are lambasting Sandra because she is an
easy target.
The most disappointing thing is that she
is being attacked by people from her own region.
These are the same people who
are good at denigrating our artists,” added Sibanda.
The Joice Mujuru led National People’ s Party(NPP) has claimed the ruling party Zanu PF is clandestinely working with ZEC to rig the 2010 harmonised elections.
NPP Spokesperson Jeffryson Chitando yesterday took a swipe at Zanu PF’ s Simon Khaya for defending ZEC’ s glaring bungling.
Said Chitando: “Zanu PF has suddenly turned itself into ZEC’ s mouthpiece.
Zimbabweans were shocked to watch on ZBCTV main news at 8pm Zanu PF’s Simon Khaya Moyo labouring to defend ZEC’ s errors.
Simon Khaya Moyo must understand that Zimbabweans are aware of his school bell role in politics.”
He added: ” Simon Khaya Moyo is playing the school bell role in Zanu PF.
He was used by Former President Robert Mugabe to read a statement on Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa’ s dismissal.
In a very short space of time he was used by the Zanu PF Lacoste faction to read a statement on Mugabe’s fall.
How can he defend ZEC, an independent organisation -which has its own structures–including a spokesperson?”
As the nation prepared for the upcoming 2018 elections, the below picture caused a stir in the community yesterday as opposition party members scoffed at it in writing saying, “ED pfee apa rine Pata pata mugumbo, chinjai maitiro.”
Zanu PF Provincial Youth Chairperson for Harare Province Godwin Gomwe has accused MDC supporters of attempting to cause social disharmony in the country.
In a statement released yesterday Gomwe claimed the opposition had resorted to desperate measures to discredit the ruling party.
“Let me take this opportunity to encourage all Zimbabweans to engage in peaceful campaigning as we play our part in this new dispensation of mature politics.
We urge the ZRP to arrest without fear or favour all persons who breach the peace in our country,” said Gomwe.
” To all ZANU PF cadres, let us campaign peacefully and be vigilant in the face of a provocative opposition.
The opposition has embarked on futile attempts to discredit our elections without just cause,” added Gomwe.
The country’ s main opposition party, MDC has implored the people of Zimbabwe to reject President Emmerson Mnangagwa’ s high sounding manifesto saying it will never solve the country’ s mounting economic woes.
In a message posted on its Facebook page under the name Nelson Chamisa for President, the party said Mnangagwa and his cronies would not be allowed to hoodwink the suffering people of Zimbabwe.
Below is the statement posted yesterday:
To avoid wasting your votes on ED here are some of
his pronounced failures since the coup.
-Failure to curb bank queues.
-Failure to solve the cash crisis.
-Failure to procure water chemicals for clean
water supplies opting to print 2000 tonnes of t-
shirts and party regalia at a cost of 20 million
dollars.
-Failure to implement electoral reforms and
realigning of ZEC to constitutional corridors.
-Militarisation of ZEC.
Signing of air pie deals that never came to
fruition.
Militarisation of government institutions.
Failure to curb or reduce unemployment.
Failure to foster dialogue with all national
stakeholders to bring
solutions to our waning economy.
-Failure to prosecute perceived state looters.
-Failure to arrest or expose cash looters.
The state controlled media are desperate to tarnish youthful MDC Alliance Presidential candidate Nelson Chamisa’ s image before the much anticipated polls, political analysts have said.
The state media claimed Chamisa told MDC Alliance Supporters at a rally held at Mahusekwa Growth Point in Marondera, he would bring the soccer World Cup to Zimbabwe after winning the coming plebiscite.
The state broadcaster claimed Chamisa said : “If you give me the mandate to rule, Zimbabwe will be a shining example in sports. I will make sure the country hosts the Olympic Games and the World Cup.”
Chamisa is hoping to end Zanu PF’s strong grip on power as he takes on President Emmerson Mnangagwa in the much awaited plebiscite.
It is in this context that we are exercising our peaceful right defined in section 59 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe by marching and presenting this petition on the following demands;
i) All parties, and candidates (and or their representatives) participating in the election, forthwith be furnished with an electronic copy of the provisional voters’ roll as is required by section 21 of the Electoral act Chapter 2:13.
ii) That ZEC, allows an inspection period of the voters’ roll pursuant to fresh registration during the voter inspection period 19 May to 29 May 2018.
iii) That an independent, external audit of the voters’ roll be commenced immediately after the inspection period mentioned above, with the auditors to be agreed by all stakeholders and shareholders.
iv) That there be full and proper agreement by all stakeholders on the procurement, security, quality and movement of all ballot material, in particular, the ballot paper.
v) That the ZEC immediately retires in its secretariat, any security personnel whether currently employed or formerly employed by the security services as defined in Chapter 11 of the Constitution.
vi) That ZEC immediately disbands the present national logistics committee and that there is agreement in the composition, recruitment, training and deployment of the new members of the national logistics committee.
vii) That the current accreditation committee be disbanded and that there is agreement on the recruitment, training and deployment of the new members of the accreditation committee.
viii) That there be full disclosure with regards to the custody and location of the BVR Servers and that all stakeholders be allowed access to validate the legitimacy of the data in those servers.
ix) That the additional 1500 newly created polling stations be and are hereby abandoned and that there be discussion and agreement on additional polling stations if need requires.
x) That all military personal currently deployed in the rural areas be and are hereby recalled and that there should be full and complete de-militarisation of the rural areas.
xi) That all international observers and monitors should now be allowed immediate access to Zimbabwe to monitor the election pursuant to the proclamation of the election on the 30th of May 2018.
xii) That forthwith, there must be equal access to and equal coverage of all political parties in the public media, in particular the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation.
xiii) That there be a provision in terms section 67 of the Constitution to allow the Diaspora to vote even if it means voting only in the presidential election.
xiv) That there be cessation of the use of food and inputs as political weapons in this election
4. The holding of the 30th of July election is dependent on the conditions set out above
BELOW IS THE PART TRANSCRIPT OF MDC ALLIANCE LEADER NELSON CHAMISA’S FULL SPEECH IN HARARE 5th JUNE 2018
Do not be afraid that they will cheat the upcoming elections… it will not work.
We have our reforms we want. 30 July is not just an election day. 30 July is a survival day…a day to resolve problems in the hospital… 30 July is the day we correct our education… a day to remember our war veterans….a day for the women of Zimbabwe.
How many are going with me to vote on 30 July?
So what are our issues? Where is my document? Our issues what are they? Boys and girls .. How I wish Mdara Tsvangirai was here, this was his style. My Mdara used to sing this way: Munoziva, ndotya kurasika…. Ndoda Mwari muya muri wangu. Ndakatengwa neropa raishe. Ndava wenyu Chose!
The story that brought us here is that we have won the election already …. and in the rural areas it’s now even worse for ZANU PF.
Now that we have won, we know there is a baboon. This baboon needs to be caught beforehand.
The issues we want to fix have to nothing to do with parliament. ZANU PF tried to change laws. The Electoral Act they put in place, is disputed.
The ballot paper we demand that we know who has printed it, and what are it’s security features…. and so so forth.
Look now can you see how a thief operates? We heard Mnangagwa saying security will not allow ballot papers to be inspected. If that is the case we will ensure all processes are stopped.
He sent me a message saying where are your guts.. and I said my guts are on God Almighty.
This time we are not going to have a repeat of 2013. We are prepared of doing whatever is necessary and the good thing is we have the support of the people of Zimbabwe.
We shall go to SADC and to AU … We shall only have a free and fair election.
We shall inspect the voters roll to see the entries in there.
After the election I will congratulate who has won. But obviously that will be me… so Mnangagwa will have to come to congratulate me. We will teach these people how to run hospitals, banks and so forth. There is this issue of radio and TV: ZBC is disgraceful, we respect the media but their lies destroy the nation. Why don’t you just report things as they are ?
I told you about coverage in terms of the law; they should do the same everywhere. If you do LIVE coverage of Mnangagwa you must also do Chamisa. I called Mnangagwa to a LIVE debate … he froze up.
The third issue is the matter of soldiers. We say they are professional, they belong to the country but we are saying please cause the soldiers not to meddle in the rural areas intimidating our people.
A person defeated at the polls is not dead.
The rigging they are trying is the rigging of your jobs and so forth.
When they deploy polling stations…. (sic).
So we are using technology to monitor elections. We want the whole country to know where the servers are.
The other issues …We know observers are already here…
Today at 4 O clock the Commonwealth ambassador is meeting me. Yes I am not blocking the re admission of Zimbabwe into Commonwealth. In any case when I become president I am the one who will be dealing with the Commonwealth.
The issue of the diaspora vote the government knows this must be respected. Let us respect the issue of diaspora vote because it is not constituency based in the constitution. They are not respecting diasporans yet they are the same people funding the economy. Mr Mnangagwa be a revolutionary, a patriot. Mr Mnangagwa love your country… have a free and fair election. The demands are here on paper. Mnangagwa must know this thing that the nation is the people’s. I saw ZANU PF people here supporting us because this is a national thing.
The other issues… The elections on 30 July will be only on these conditions. If they are not met, we will let you know what we will do soon.
I thank you all for coming here in your crowds. No one came here because they were paid.
By Paul Nyathi|MDC-T leader Nelson Chamisa has officially taken over from his rival splinter MDC-T leader Thokozani Khupe after he was confirmed as the leader of the opposition in the House of Assembly.
Chamisa was announced as taking over from Chamisa by the Speaker of Parliament last week. Chamisa’s appointment followed the expulsion from parliament of Khupe who was the Deputy President of the opposition party and leader of the opposition in the august house.
“I would like to inform this House that at its meeting held on 21stMay, 2018 the Committee on Standing Rules and Orders was advised by the MDC T that Hon. Advocate Nelson Chamisa is now the Leader of the opposition in Parliament,” Advocate Jacob Mudenda the Speaker announced in the house.
Mufakose MP Paurina Mpariwa was also appointed to replace Khupe in the Committee on standing rules and orders.
“At the same meeting, Hon. Paurina Mpariwa was endorsed as a member of the Committee on Standing Rules and Orders. This followed the expulsion of Dr. Thokozani Khupe from Parliament in April, 2018,” said Mudenda.
By Paul Nyathi|MDC alliance spokesperson and coalition partner MDC leader, Welshman Ncube has told coalition members to stop fighting for positions and focus on drumming up support for the coalition’s presidential candidate, Nelson Chamisa.
Ncube said this while addressing an MDC Alliance campaign rally in Nkayi North, on Sunday.
Ncube made the call in the wake of fierce clashes among MDC Alliance members over sharing of council and parliamentary seats with Chamisa’s MDC-T accused of trespassing into constituencies reserved for other alliance partners.
Ncube said since 2000, the main opposition MDC had many legislators, but lost the presidential bid.
He said winning parliamentary seats does not change anything in the governance system.
“We have had opposition members of Parliament for many years, but nothing has changed. However, there is only one issue that can change our lives and that’s removing Zanu PF government, a government that perpetuates hunger, poverty and endless troubles,” he told supporters.
“That’s the key issue. If we do not change the State House issue, that is the President, we won’t be doing ourselves any favours. This year is Nelson Chamisa’s time; he is the one to use to remove Zanu PF from State House. [The late MDC-T leader] Morgan Tsvangirai birthed the idea of an alliance and re-united the parties.”
“However, when we are in the process of re-uniting there some among us who are losing focus and direction, a woman says ‘I want to be the president’. We are not chasing after positions, we will look into that after we liberate ourselves, only what we are for is removing Zanu PF from power on July 30 and have a better life,” he said in an apparent jibe directed at breakaway MDC-T faction leader Thokozani Khupe.
Khupe severed ties with the Chamisa a few months ago following an ugly fight over the party presidency.
But, Ncube described her move as divisive and meant to weaken the opposition and advantage ruling Zanu PF presidential candidate Emmerson Mnangagwa.
“This is not the time to be divided. Everywhere you go right now in Zimbabwe, the name Nelson Chamisa is abuzz. This is the opportunity not to miss. We should not be fooled by some people who will come to you saying ‘it’s my time to be president’.”
“Mnangagwa, who was a bus conductor, now says Zimbabwe is open for business, the key question is who had closed the country for business? We all know that he is incapable of doing that. He was Mugabe’s conductor for 38 years,” he said.
By Paul Nyathi|The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission has barred Mthwakazi Republic Party from using its symbol which features an elephant.
According to Zimbabwe’s political parties regulations an elephant is prohibited to be featured as a political party symbol.
The following is the list of items prohibited from being used in political parties symbols.
1. A lion.
2. A bird of prey.
3. A rhinoceros.
4. A laurel wreath.
5. A leopard.
6. A cheetah.
7. An owl.
8. A sword.
9. A griffon.
10. A cobra.
11. A secretary bird.
12. A flaming torch.
13. An axe.
14. An elephant.
15. A buffalo.
16. A flame lily.
The MRP in a statement however expressed outrage at the ZEC claiming that the commission was sabotaging its campaign programs by barring them from using the symbol.
“On behalf of the National Executive Committee of Mthwakazi Republic Party, I announce to the media, our electorate and the General public that the party has recently availed a new logo for this year’s elections,” said the party spokesperson Mbonisi Gumbo in a statement.
“The iconic and original MRP logo that bears an elephant will not be used as an election symbol, at the insistence of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission.
“ZEC disqualified our logo, allegedly on the dictates of the electoral act that prohibits the use of an elephant as a party election symbol. We have changed our symbol under protest though, because ZEC has failed to give us the exact statutory instrument that criminalizes the use of an elephant as a party symbol. In the spirit of urgency, we have removed the elephant and replaced it with ‘ihawu’ the shield.
“We suspect the underhand shenanigans of the Coup Cabal that has infested ZEC, in this whole development. We have unearthed that the Coup government is working tirelessly and clandestinely to thwart the ascendancy of power by MRP in Matabeleland and part of Midlands.
“We invite our members accross Mthwakazi to take note of this development and to embrace it. We will continue to use the elephant as our party symbol, save for election purposes.”
By Paul Nyathi|The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission has confirmed that 5.5 million people are in the voters roll to be used in this year’s elections.
The number increased after more than 200 000 new registrants were recorded during the voters’ roll inspection period, Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) chairwoman, Justice Priscilla Chigumba, said.
“During the inspection period, we had 206 225 new registrants, with Midlands leading the pack with 39 079 people, followed by Harare which had 30 651,” Justice Chigumba said.
“Our number for registered voters is now slightly above 5,5 million from where we were. The total number of people who inspected the voters’ manually stands at 1 917 691. Those who inspected via bulk SMSs were above three million while those who used the USSD code *265# were in the region of 900 000. The platform which was not much active was the link to our website, which had about 50 000 people.”
Justice Chigumba said 46 377 people had transferred their polling stations.
“The number of people who registered afresh is about 8 684,” she said.
“Remember we had said our exclusion list had about 11 500 people and those who corrected their errors had to register afresh. Those turned away for various reasons were about 45 000. Some were turned away because they had no IDs, some had defaced IDs, some brought drivers’ licences, some had photocopies of IDs, some were under age while some were not citizens or residents of Zimbabwe.”
Inspection of the provisional voters’ roll ran from May 19 to 29 at 10 807 centres set up by Zec for the exercise.
Justice Chigumba said they were now focused on nomination courts which would sit on June 14.
“We are now going to the nomination courts and we are working on setting up those nomination courts,” she said. “We are working on training people who will man those nomination courts.”
On the final voters’ roll, she said; “Registration closed on June 1 and information is coming from provinces. After that we will correct the errors and finalise duplications and after that we will be able to avail the final voters’ roll.”
Zec is coming up with a new voters’ roll after taking over the process from the Registrar General’s office in line with the 2013 Constitution.
By Paul Nyathi|Former Welshman Ncube led MDC spokesperson Joshua Mhambi has announced his return to politics after a three year sabbatical with his own new political party.
Mhambi declared contesting this year’s elections with a new political brand the Zimbabwe Democratic Union.
With the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission last week announcing that it had received notices to contest elections from 102 political parties, Mhambi’s party becomes party number 103 if he has made his notice to contest to the ZEC.
Wrote Mhambi in his Facebook page:
August 18. 2015 I formally tendered my resignation as National Spokesperson from the MDC Green and and said I am taking a Sabbatical , for reasons that will be told in the fullness of time.
I said then, that one would come back in due course with the message “Thus sayeth the Lord…”
The time has finally come for me to return and I can only obey the call and make my humble contribution to the Spiritual, Social, Political, Cultural, Economic discourse and restoration my beloved country.
This, by availing my political services to the people of Zimbabwe in general and Bulawayo in particular by contesting in the forthcoming general election
In past twenty years of active political enterprise I have supported and been loyal to those whom I chose to assist in their aspirations to ascend to power. Now is the time for yours truly to move up and be of political service to the nation in the sincere belief that I have the Capacity, Character and Competence and anoiting for a time like this one.
By Farai D Hove| In a rare development, the first of it’s kind, the Zimbabwe Republic police has blocked supporters of President Emmerson Mnangagwa from their protest solidarity action scheduled for today.
The zanu PF supporters were planning to march in Harare at the same time that supporters of the MDC Alliance are holding their protest for electoral reforms in the capital city.
For years, the ruling party supporters have received favourable treatment by the police. But in what appeared like a sweet suckly turn Of events, the police yesterday declared that they will block zanu PF supporters the whole day. They were ordered to instead hold their own protest the following day, Wednesday.
Youth leader Godwin Gomwe said, “I am communicating with you all with regards to the solidarity march for peace that we had scheduled for tomorrow the 5th of June 2018.
“As a peaceful and law abiding Youth League we had taken precaution and sought police clearance for our solidarity march. However, the Zimbabwe Republic Police has turned down our request for a police clearance citing that a certain political party had been granted permission prior to our application. As a leadership we automatically accepted and embraced this decision by the police.”
Transform Zimbabwe is fully behind the electoral reforms demonstration planned by the MDC Alliance. We fully believe that for us to have free, fair and credible elections, the issue of reforms should take centre stage.
In this respect, I urge all Zimbabweans to come out and show ZEC and the world that we are serious in demanding for reforms.
This demonstration must be held peacefully to demonstrate our tolerance and seriousness on issues.
By Farai D Hove| US President Donald Trump has appointed a new ambassador who will deal with Zimbabwe’s main political leaders, Nelson Chamisa and Emmerson Mnangagwa. AMBASSADOR BRIAN NICHOLS
The new US envoy, Mr Brian Nichols, now replaces Ambassador Harry Thomas Jnr, who concluded his term of service a few weeks ago.
Trump appeared to continue the Barack Obama strategy of appointing African Americans as US envoys to Zimbabwe.
The development comes short in the heels, of a top US senator expressing disappointment with president Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration on its commitment to electoral reforms.
Nichols once served as US Ambassador to Peru, principal deputy assistant secretary in the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, and as deputy chief of mission at the US Embassy in Bogota, Colombia.
Nichols is a long- serving member of the US Senior Foreign Service and has served as an American diplomat since 1989. He is currently the Senior Advisor in the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs.
A UK based Zimbabwean is one of two arrested over fake tea – the khat drug.
The man was arrested after being caught with a consignment of the dangerous drug —with a street value of $135 000 which was destined for Britain.
ABOUT KHAT – effects and risks.
The two main stimulants in khat speed up the user’s mind and body, like a less powerful amphetamine.
It makes people happy and talkative but can cause insomnia and temporary confusion. Chewed for a few hours it leaves users with a feeling of calm, described by some as “blissed out”. The drug could make pre-existing mental health problems worse and it can provoke feelings of anxiety and aggression. It can also inflame the mouth and damage teeth, and there are concerns about the long-term risk of mouth cancers. (Source: Talk to Frank).
ZRP Detectives arrested a UK-based Zimbabwean man Mufaro Shaba and Samaita Chinembiri from Nkulumane suburb for allegedly dealing in dangerous drugs.
The police said khat is relatively rare in Zimbabwe but is common in Eastern African countries.
The drug looks like dried vegetables (umfushwa).
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Precious Simango yesterday said police intercepted the contraband after it was shipped from Ethiopia en-route to the United Kingdom.
She said police sources informed detectives that a consignment which was supposed to be collected by Chinembiri contained dangerous drugs.
“We have arrested two suspects in connection with dealing in dangerous drugs. Our detectives received a tip-off that a consignment of dangerous drugs was destined for Tshabalala suburb.
“The detectives monitored its transportation from Robert Mugabe International Airport in Harare to Bulawayo where it was due for collection by one suspect called Chinembiri,” said Insp Simango.
She said instead of Chinembiri receiving the parcel in Bulawayo, Shaba flew into the country to collect the consignment.
“Shaba lied to courier services agents that Chinembiri had visited his rural home and he would be collecting the parcel on his behalf. He was told to bring Chinembiri’s ID.
“He brought it later but it turned out that Mr Chinembiri was actually in the city. The two were arrested with the drug, street valued at $135 000,” she said.
The provincial police spokesperson said the duo is assisting law enforcement agents with investigations.
Insp Simango said police were concerned that hard drugs are being been intercepted in the country as they are being smuggled to other countries.
She said the latest incident comes barely two months after the police intercepted 3,14 kgs of cocaine with a street value of $470 000 bound to South Africa from India.
“We are worried that the country and its citizens are being used by drug dealers to smuggle narcotics. Zimbabwe has no history of dealing with these hard drugs and we believe drug dealers want to exploit the country’s reputation to smuggle these drugs without being anticipated in other countries. Ethiopia is much closer to Europe so the question is why someone would want to send their contraband via Zimbabwe?” she asked.
Insp Simango said police are alert and will continue to arrest such criminals, urging the city’s citizens to desist from accepting parcels from dubious sources.
A detective assigned to the police CID drugs station Detective Sergeant Lovemore Ncube said khat is hardly used in Zimbabwe. Its users chew its leaves especially when it’s still wet and get high.
The drug is said to cause euphoria and loss of appetite. Dt Sgt Ncube said it can be processed into powder and tablets which can be very addictive.
Shaba and Chinembiri appeared briefly before before Bulawayo magistrate Ms Adelaide Mbeure yesterday and were not asked to plead to charges of unlawful possession of dangerous drugs for the purpose of dealing in that drug.

A 52 year old prophet from Bulawayo has been arrested for allegedly raping his 19-year-old patient three times in one night after she had approached him seeking treatment.
The man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of his victim but is a faith healer from Robert Sinyoka near Old Pumula suburb, allegedly raped the woman, from Woollendale, Umguza district, on May 12.
The prophet initially prayed for the woman and she went back to her place of residence.
He allegedly made a follow up on May 12 at the woman’s place of residence where he prayed for her and was provided with a hut to sleep in only to sneak into the woman’s hut during the night and rape her.
The man appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Mr Lungile Ncube charged with rape.
He was not asked to plead and Mr Ncube remanded him in custody to June 18 for provision of a trial date at the Regional court.
Prosecuting, Mr Nathan Marime told the court that sometime in early May, the woman fell sick and with the assistance of her grandmother who stays in Robert Sinyoka, they approached the accused person for faith healing.
“The woman was assisted with prayers and she went back to her place of residence. On May 12 the prophet made a follow up at the woman’s place of residence,” said Mr Marime.
“He prayed for the woman and after prayers he was given a hut to sleep in. During the same night when other people went to sleep, the prophet sneaked into the complainant’s hut where she was sleeping and gave her some holy water to sprinkle.”
Mr Marime said the woman retired to bed and the prophet joined her and had unprotected sexual intercourse with her three times without her consent.
A police report was made leading to the man’s arrest.- state media
Some Shonas have been filmed while chopping off a dead whale that was washed off the ocean. This was at a beach believed to be somewhere in Mozambique. It could not be verified that these people were Zimbabweans since Mozambique has a large population of Shonas. But the elasticity of their Shona, suggested they are in fact Zimbabweans.
State Media – Zimbabwe is set for a major economic take off and will be among the fastest-growing economies in the world soon, a visiting investor mission from Britain said yesterday.
The delegation represents 21 organisations.
The group met President Mnangagwa and other senior Government officials in Harare yesterday.
President Mnangagwa said he was impressed by the size and diversity of the delegation, the first of its kind he had met in a long time.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, head of delegation Mr Robert Hersov, who is also chairman and chief executive officer of London-headquartered Invest Africa, said his team chose to come in early to explore opportunities ahead of an influx of foreign capital into Zimbabwe due to the positive investor sentiment.
Organisations represented in the delegation have interests in energy, mining, infrastructure development, tourism, hospitality and agriculture.
The delegation came as a follow-up to an invitation by Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Lieutenant-General Sibusiso Busi Moyo (Retired), who attended yesterday’s roundtable.
“The President and his ministers were very open, honest and frank about the situation that Zimbabwe is in right now but also the potential that your country has,” said Mr Hersov.
“We are great believers in the country, the most literate country in Africa, (with) almost every mineral and metal and it has a very diverse and extraordinary investment opportunity,” he said.
“So the delegation that came here is quite a big delegation, 22 of us, and there are private investors and also senior decision-makers from very large investment companies.
“The opportunity is very broad. There are a number of people here that are in energy, mining, tourism and hospitality, the logistics sector and the agri-sector and Zimbabwe offers opportunities in all of those,” he said.
Mr Hersov said Zimbabwe was poised for massive growth and could be the best in the world.
He said President Mnangagwa’s administration was doing everything to make the country a destination for foreign direct investment.
Mr Hersov did not reveal how much they intended to invest in Zimbabwe, only saying those with interest in energy and infrastructure development were talking “big figures”.
He said the delegation would organise another trip to Zimbabwe after elections.
“I think this is the beginning of something big for Zimbabwe. I think Zimbabwe now, with free and fair elections coming up, the President has put his name to it and I am very proud of him for doing that. We think this country has huge upside. It should be one of the fastest growing countries in the world and for a very long time,” added Mr Hersov.
“There are also investors here who are interested in smaller investments – hotel and hospitality, logistics – it is a broad range of things and you know small investments can turn into big businesses,” he said.
“We are very happy to be here. You have a lovely country. We will be back with an even bigger delegation very soon, probably after the elections because you know the country has to focus on the elections now.
“There is a very positive mood among the investors and sometimes it is always better to get in before the rush of money comes so we like to be early.
“Listen, you have very literate and competent people and also there is an extraordinary potential reverse Diaspora of Zimbabweans living in South Africa, rest of Africa and worldwide, who would love to come home and they are being trained in different businesses. They have different skills and opportunities but they all want to come back home,” he said.
President Mnangagwa said he and his team, which included Vice Presidents Constantino Chiwenga and Kembo Mohadi, were very frank with the visiting delegation about the situation in the country.
“I have been informing the delegation that I have been in Government since 1980. It is almost 38 years now. I have never seen such a huge delegation, very diverse, very global, coming together to little Zimbabwe in southern Africa,” he said.
“This is a great moment for this country. We have done everything possible to honestly brief them about our situation.
“The challenges which we face, the weaknesses which we have and the strength we have. I have exposed that to the entire delegation. I hope they will look at it and make their own decisions.”
Also in attendance were Ministers Simon Khaya Moyo (Energy and Power Development), July Moyo (Local Government, Public Works and National Housing), Reserve Bank Governor Dr John Mangudya and other senior Government officials.
ZimEye.com today continues its investigations into the activities of a UK based funeral scheme running by the name Madzimai Akatendeka. This series of articles and programs will run for the next few weeks.
While the organisation has been praised by some in the Zimbabwean community, the Board Of Directors have been spotted on various occasions living a lavish lifestyle that has raised eyebrows.
All this also comes after the board leadership made fraudulent claims that the organisation is registered and regulated by the British Financial Conduct Authority.
Evidence at hand points that Madzimai Akatendeka is not at all FCA registered, let alone regulated by the FCA.
Contacted by ZimEye.com, the founding Director Fungai Maruta was asked- you claimed that you are registered with the Financial Conduct Authority, are you truly registered with the FCA?
“Yes we are registered with the FCA,” she said.
When told that the FCA has revealed the organisation is not at all registered, she responded saying,”I don’t want to answer you now but you will see me in court if you want to find out that we are registered with the FCA.”

By Lionel Saungweme| The trial of twelve Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) members, accused of Contravening section 36(1) (a)(b) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act Chapter 9:23 (Public Violence), over the 4 March 2018 violence at the party offices in Bulawayo, has kicked off.
The dispute arose after Thokozani Khupe and Abednigo Bhebhe, respectively MDC-T Vice President and National Organising Secretary at the time, allegedly gate-crushed a provincial elections directorate meeting. A physical fight for the venue ensued between supporters of Khupe, who were holed up inside the party office and premises, with those backing MDC-T President, Nelson Chamisa, who were outside the venue.
During the fight bricks, iron bars and stones were used as weapons. Five office window panes valued at $150 were broken and five vehicles were damaged leading to the arrest of 12 party cadres.
A “Land Rover Discovery, Registration Number AEI 1831 belonging to the Parliament of Zimbabwe, used by Thokozani Khupe,” sustained a “damaged windscreen, rear screen and side windows valued at $2000. A white Honda Fit vehicle registration number ADP 0783 had its quarter glass smashed while a grey Honda Fit registration number AEE 2897 was left with a “damaged windscreen and two dents on the bonnet valued at $200.” A Nissan XTrail registration number AEO 6470 had a “damaged windscreen valued at $500” while a Toyota Fortuner also known as the Toyota SW4 whose South African plates read FV 31VN GP got a “damaged windscreen and all windows valued at $2500.”
A report was lodged with the police leading to the arrest of Mlandu Ncube, Gift Banda, Felix Mhaka, Kunashe Muchemwa, Raymond Dudzayi Gombedza, Robson Tera, Donaldson Mabutho, Michael Mubasa (sic), Takunda Madzana, Sibongubuhle Sibanda, Gono Erick and Edith Moyo. The 12 are respectively cited as accused persons in court papers.
At the start of trial complainant, Artwell Sibanda, took to the witness’ stand. He stated that a meeting was “called by national leadership, specifically the Vice President Thokozani Khupe and National Organising Secretary Abednigo Bhebhe.”
“I was tasked with security operations. We received intelligence that there were some people who were planning to disrupt the meeting owing to political differences amongst the top echelons of leadership.
“I received information that Accused Number 5 (Raymond Dudzayi Gombedza) and others had locked the offices and had instructed the security guards to leave the premises. At about 9am, I instructed Alfred Ncube to use an alternative key to unlock the gate. I also approached members of the Zimbabwe Republic Police [Police Internal Security Intelligence (PISI)] and spoke to Tapi informing him of the impending disruptions and he assured us that no violent activities will take place.
“Police structures started vetting people entering the venue of meeting. At around 11am, I noticed people from the Youth Wing and Women’s Wing and the Main Wing together at various points around the offices. I alerted the same PISI officers of the impending violent acts. When the meeting started Accused Number One (Cllr Mlandu Ncube) and Accused Number 12 (Edith Moyo) approached the offices from the intersection of 2nd Avenue/Fort St and were headed towards the office.
“As I approached them Accused Number One (Cllr Mlandu Ncube) whispered to Hon Dorothy Bhebhe to drive off as they now wanted to work. Accused Number One gestured to other people to follow him. I then moved to the offices where I observed Accused Number One (Cllr Mlandu Ncube, Four (Kunashe Muchemwa), Five (Raymond Gombedza) and others charging towards the offices.
“Accused Number Six (Robson Tera), Seven (Donaldson Mabutho), Nine (Takunda Madzana), Ten (Sibongubuhle Sibanda), Eleven (Erick Gono) and Twelve (Edith Moyo) were coming from the direction of 2nd Avenue. Accused Number Six (Robson Tera) stoned a white Honda Fit vehicle damaging its rear window on the right side in full view of the PISI officer (Tapi) I mentioned before. The rest of the Accused persons started stoning the security details who were at the entrance in the process injuring people, damaging cars including the one owned by Vice President Khupe.
“Leading the people who stoned the vehicle were Accused Number One (Cllr Mlandu Ncube). Accused Number Nine (Takunda Madzana) then went to the building adjacent the MDC premises and started stoning vehicles and people. That is when a Toyota Fortuner, which is a South African vehicle was stoned.
“Thokozani Khupe’s driver, Witness Dube, tried to flee in a Land Rover Discovery vehicle. He fled going to the 3rd Avenue direction. At the robots (traffic lights) I told him to turn into the sanitary lane. The lane was blocked by a kombi whose driver was nowhere to be seen. He has to use the 2nd Avenue entry to the sanitary lane where he parked the vehicle at the back door.
“When we instructed the VP (Miss Thokozani Khupe) to get into the vehicle she refused and the mob was also gathering blocking the alley (sanitary lane) and the driver (Witness Dube) drove off towards 2nd Avenue and in the process Accused Number Nine (Takunda Madzana) threw a stone that hit the driver on the forehead. The driver drove towards Fort Street and was received by a hail of stones until he decided to flee to make a report at Bulawayo Central Police Station.
“In the meantime, I instructed some security personnel to form a human barricade to allow Hon Bhebhe to drive off to Bulawayo Central Police Station. I also drove off to Bulawayo Central Police Station to make a report.
Ngezi Platinum FC coach Tonderai Ndiraya has expressed disappointment at poor officiating following his side’ s first defeat this season.
Ndiraya blasted referee Hardly Ndazi after his team succumbed to a 0-1 defeat at the hands of Bulawayo Chiefs on Sunday.
Madamburo also finished the match with nine men after Xolisani Moyo and Clive Augusto were sent off in the second half.
Augusto was the first to be expelled on the hour mark, and Moyo who came in as a 73rd-minute substitute lasted only nine minutes on the field as he was send off in controversial circumstances.
“The second bookable offence for Clive Augusto was too harsh, and as for Xolisani Moyo, he was not close to the incident, but he got a red card. I think it is a case of mistaken identity,” said Ndiraya in a post-match interview.
“The match official made terrible mistakes in a big game like this. I’m disappointed by what has happened today.”
The coach also questioned the referee’s decision not to award his team a penalty when Charamba was fouled inside the box a few moments before the home team took the lead from the spot through Gracious Muleya.
“So many things happened that I’m not happy with as a coach.
“There was a penalty decision that went against us when Charamba was clearly impeded as he was going for goal, but the referee thought otherwise,” he added.
“We know you bootlicker last year before the coup you were posting negative post of ED and saying bad things about him but just after the coup you were praising him and staff, If Chamisa becomes president I’m not even shocked to see you chanting Chamisa chete chete. Confused Fool.”
Zimbabwe Warriors gaffer Sunday Chidzambwa yesterday said the players made the game difficult for themselves because they underrated the Zebras of Botswana.
Chidzambwa indicated the players underrated Botswana and it was difficult to adjust after the Zebras proved to be a formidable force.
“The players were complacent, and this made it difficult for us,” said Chidzambwa.
“Botswana are a good team and their football has changed tremendously over the past years,” said Chidzambwa.
“I want to applaud the fans for their tremendous support. Last year they did the same thing. I urge them to come out in numbers once again in the next match,” added Chidzambwa.
Zimbabwe took a first-half lead through Evans Rusike but allowed Botswana to get back into the match in the second period.
The Warriors needed the brilliance of goalkeeper George Chigova who saved three penalties to progress to the semi-finals. They will play Lesotho on Wednesday.
Presidential Spokesperson and Information, Broadcasting and Media Services Permanent Secretary George Charamba has said the State broadcaster ZBC must desist from forcing citizens who reside in areas without radio and television transmission to pay licences.
Addressing stakeholders at a Zim Digital Workshop in Chiredzi last week, Charamba said ZBC should not force citizens to pay radio and television licences without receiving transmission.
“People should not be forced to pay radio and television licences. I can tell you that there are many areas that have poor transmission,” said Charamba.
“We expect all communities to be served by ZBC and those who are not receiving standard transmission cannot be expected to pay radio and television licences,” added Charamba.

The trio were appointed in April 2017 by Kasukuwere following the suspension of all the 25 Chitungwiza councillors, including mayor Phillip Mutoti.
Kasukuwere accused council management and councilors of stealing State land and sharing it among themselves, thus prejudicing the local authority of over $7 million.
In spite of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’ s ‘Zimbabwe is Open for Business’ mantra, a senior Zanu PF official in Chiredzi is clandestinely pushing for the invasion of Tongaat Hullet Sugarcane Plots, it has emerged.
Former Tongaat Hullet Director for Agriculture, Farai Musikavanhu, who will represent Zanu PF in the Chiredzi West Parliamentary election, is working with senior ruling party officials to grab Tongaat Hullet plots.
Sources at Tongaat Hullet revealed at the weekend Musikavanhu was holding secret secret meetings with war veterans and Zanu PF supporters- purportedly to address pressing issues in the area.
“Musikavanhu and his supporters are targeting Tongaat Hullet Sugarcane Plots. They are determined to takeover productive land in a move that is likely to result in job losses,” Tongaat Hullet sources said.

By Paul Nyathi|The ZANU PF Youth League has issued a statement disputing claims that it will be holding a demonstration along the sidelines of a similar MDC Alliance coalition march.
The statement issued by the Harare Provincial Secretary for Administration Kudakwashe Masamvi cancelled off an initial statement allegedly issued by the Chairman Simbarashe Godwin Gomwe.

By Own Correspondent| Protestors for the MDC Alliance peaceful march will assemble at Africa Unity Square and march to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) offices before proceeding to President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s offices at Munhumutapa Building in Harare to deliver their petition on electoral reforms, Amos Chibaya, one of the organisers of the protest has confirmed.
Addressing a press conference at Morgan Tsvangirai House in Harare today, Chibaya, who is MDC T National Organising Secretary dispelled speculation that the electoral reforms protestors would not present their petition to the President adding that the protest had been approved.
“The onus is now on citizens to make their voices heard by coming in their large numbers. The Constitution protects those who engage in peaceful protests and tomorrow’s event is one such.
We are saying the police has been notified according to the dictates of the law hence we are going to present our petition to President Mnangagwa,” said Chibaya.
Below is the full text of the press statement.
Free and fair election peace march on tomorrow
Tomorrow, we are holding a Free and Fair election peace march in Harare . We are meeting at Africa Unity Square at 9am, and we march together to the ZEC offices and present our fully comprehensive petition that speak to the fundamental reforms that need to be implemented before we can hold a free, fair and credible election.
From there, we, proceed to Munhumutapa building to present the same petition to the Mnangagwa administration. We will use Samora Machel Avenue.
We then march taking Second Street (Sam Mujoma) to Africa Unity Square where the people will be addressed by the people’s president, Advocate Nelson Chamisa.
This is a crucial time. We must be vigilant as we demand an Environment for credible elections in Zimbabwe.
The ballot paper remains a serious threat to Zimbabwe’s democracy. As long as the paper has not been scrutinized, and the printing of the ballot paper remains shrouded in secrecy, then there cannot be an election.
As long as the voters’ roll has not been audited by credible and an independent external auditor, there cannot be an election.
As long as the securocrats remain entrenched in the ZEC systems and interfere with our democratic right to choose a leader we want, and transfer power to the winning candidate then Zimbabwe cannot have elections.
As major stakeholders in the political affairs of Zimbabwe, we want to participate in the National Logistics Committee so that we run this election in a manner that will produce an uncontested outcome.
We are aware that Zanu has organized it’s overzealous supporters to infiltrate and cause havoc and paint us in the bad picture. We will not have that. We encourage the people of Zimbabwe to exercise restraint in the face of provocation. We encourage the participants not to participate in any act of violence, looting or damage.
As we have said, this is a Free and Fair Election Peace March.
A Commonwealth Membership Assessment Mission is in the country as a first step out of four stages towards the country’s readmission into the group of former British colonies.
The mission met Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Retired Lieutenant General Sibusiso Moyo at Munhumutapa offices today and discussed about their current mission.
The mission is in response to President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s application to the Secretary General Ms Patricia Scotland for readmission on the 9th last month.
The mission comprises Ms Yvonne Apea Mensah – Head of Africa, Governance and Peace Directorate, Mr Linford Andrews – Political adviser Africa, Governance and Peace Directorate, Ms Clara Cole – Political Advisor Electoral Support, Governance and Peace Directorate and Mrs Hilary McEwan – an archivist records officer.
The objective of the mission is to appreciate the functioning of democracy in Zimbabwe and the extent of alignment with the Commonwealth fundamental political values.
The mission will further make recommendations to the Secretary General on the deployment of a Commonwealth Observation Group to Zimbabwe’s forthcoming elections.
Minister Moyo attended this year’s Commonwealth heads of state and government meeting in London last month where most of the member countries welcomed prospects of Zimbabwe’s return to the grouping.
The mission will meet different stakeholders, including the Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, during their 5-day stay in Zimbabwe.
By Paul Nyathi|The opposition MDC Alliance coalition is looking more certain to collapse than survive with just under two months to the election.
The Alliance which is backing MDC-T President Nelson Chamisa as the presidential candidate is failing to come up with agreements in most of the parliamentary constituencies amid reports that the MDC-T is challenging candidates put up by other coalition partners.
Reliable sources within the mdct indicated to ZimEye.com that some of the MDC-T members are actually calling on the party leadership to withdraw the party from the Alliance and go it alone.
The MDC-T members claim that most of the Alliance partners’ candidates are too weak to contest in place of potential MDC-T candidates and are likely to lose to the ruling ZANU PF candidates.
MDC-T National chairman Morgan Komichi who is charge of the party’s candidates identification process last week confirmed that his party was failing to handle the alliance rebelling party members as the figures are growing every day.
The party sources who spoke to ZimEye.com said that some of the alliance partners especially the Jacob Ngarivhume led Transform Zimbabwe are also beginning to want out of the Alliance due to the failing relations in the coalition.
By Own Correspondent| Protestors for tommorrow’ s demonstration organised under the MDC Alliance have been barred from marching to President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s offices at Munhumutapa in Harare where they were hoping to deliver a petition compelling the Zanu Pf leader to prioritise electoral reforms ahead of the July 30 elections.
The demonstration, which concides with Zanu Pf’s solidarity march for violent free, free and fair elections organised by the party’s youth wing on the same day, June 5 2018 intended to march to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) offices before protesters would proceed to Mnangagwa’s offices at Munhumutapa Building in Harare.
Speaking to journalists at a press conference last week, Tendai Biti who was representing the Alliance spokesperson, Welshman Ncube revealed the route to be taken by protesters indicating that the demonstrators would assemble at Africa Unitg Square and march to ZEC where theu would hand in their petition and proceed to Mnangagwa’s offices to deliver another petition.
However, Home Affairs minister, Obert Mpofu warned the MDC Alliance against marching to President Mnangagwa’s offices arguing that the demonstration ceased to be peaceful if ptotestors went to Munhumutapa Building.
Below is the approval letter from the ZRP indicating the route to be taken by MDC Alliance protesters.

By Own Correspondent| Despite Presidential Spokesman George Charamba’s claims published in the Herald Monday morning, MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa has said his party will not be included in a government of national unity.
Advocate Chamisa spelt this out in the below exclusive interview with ZimEye last month. He was speaking in response to a question on the possibility of a government of national compromise, should that be necessary at some point in the future.
He said, “it’s good to talk, it’s good to dialogue, but I don’t know what exclusivity you are taking about.
“We are not going to be included, we are going to be including.
“There is a difference between being included and including. When you are included, it means that you are not the winner. When you are including, it means that you are the winner.
“We are willing to be inclusive by including, but we are not willing to be inclusive by being included. We are the winners, we are going to speak to any Zimbabwean who is progressive.
“The future is non partisan, as I indicated I believe we must change Zimbabwe for the better, whether ZANU, MDC, the future cannot be about parties. The future is about a victory for the people of Zimbabwe. I think about Zimbabwe first. I think about Zimbabwe than any other.”
EXILED former Zanu PF politburo member and Cabinet minister Jonathan Moyo is not yet on the International Criminal Police Organisation’s (Interpol) surveillance radar, with the organisation’s visiting secretary-general, Jürgen Stock, suggesting that local police had to meet certain stringent requirements before their requisition for the politician’s arrest and extradition could be entertained.
Addressing journalists in Harare during his tour of the Interpol regional headquarters on Saturday, Stock could not disclose whether the Zimbabwe Republic Police had met the requirements.
Stock said during his visit, he had fruitful discussions with police boss Godwin Matanga, especially on strengthening co-operation in the fight against organised crime and cybercrime.
“Interpol, of course, is providing services with regards to fugitive investigations that we are offering to all member countries in the legal framework of our statutes and constitution. So, we have specific rules that need to be applied and so all the requests need to be compliant with our Interpol system,” he said.
Last month, top officials at the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) and the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) claimed that they had engaged Interpol to help in the search for Moyo, who is facing charges of defrauding the Zimbabwe Manpower Development Fund (Zimdef) of close to $400 000.
Last December, President Emmerson Mnangagwa also claimed to have engaged Interpol to have Moyo brought back to Zimbabwe.
Stock said his organisation, which his a membership of 192 countries, will continue fighting the scourge of crime and terrorism, but declined to specifically comment on Moyo’s case.
“Arrests are taking place almost on a daily basis all around the world. We have to make sure there is no safe haven for criminals and terrorist, so this is a very effective system, but I ask for your understanding that I am not here discussing any individual cases,” he said.
Moyo’s name remains non-existent on Interpol’s wanted persons lists and the outspoken politician has remained defiant, downplaying the graft charges labelled against him as mere political persecution for his loyalty to former President Robert Mugabe.
By Paul Nyathi|A Harare pastor has been dragged to court after he accused a congregant at his church of being a witch.
Noah Daka (54), from Deeper Life Bible Church, Dzivaresekwa, appeared in court on Friday facing charges of contravening the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.
Magistrate Edwin Marecha remanded Daka to June 12 for trial. Prosecutors said on February 24 at around 8pm Babra Samu was approached by Daka who accused her of being a witch.
He ordered her to leave the house where she was staying because she was allegedly bewitching other church members.
Samu reported the matter to the police, leading to Daka’s arrest.
By Paul Nyathi|Minister for Provincial Affairs for Matabeleland South Abednico Ncube may have just found another lifeline after being brought back to contest as the ZANU PF candidate for Gwanda South constituency.
Reports from within the party in Gwanda indicate that Ncube has been brought back into the fray after his rivals in the primary elections held last month have been disqualified following submissions at the party head quarters.
Ncube last month dramatically collapsed and had to recover at the hospital after losing the party primary elections to radio personality Omphile Marupi who has since been disqualified after it emerged that he has not served the required five years in the party structures.
According to the party sources, Marupi somewhat escaped the original vetting process and should not have qualified to contest the primaries in the first place.
“We have got advice from the head office that Marupi should not have been allowed to contest the primary elections in the first place and so Minister Ncube could be the new candidate for Gwanda South,” said the source who asked not to be named.
“The party will be making an official statement on the matter soon as deliberations with Marupi and the district concerned are still being finalised,” said the source.
According to the source, the party head office has however, already submitted Ncube’s name in the list of names going for the nomination court set to sit on the the 14th of June.
Ncube has been making numerous shock political come backs after falling from grace. In 2008 he lost the Gwanda parliamentary seat before storming back in 2013 after five years in the political wilderness.
In October last year he was dumped by former President Robert Mugabe in a surprise cabinet reshuffle after enjoying running two Ministries at the same time. He was brought back to life when President Emmerson Mnangagwa took over from Mugabe a few weeks later.
Marupi could not immediately be reached for a comment.
By Paul Nyathi|Former Kwekwe Central legislator Masango Matambanadzo affectionately known as “Blackman” partly due to his dark complexion, says that he is more than happy to be dismissed from the ruling ZANU PF and subsequent ejection from Parliament.
Matambanadzo opened up to weekend media following his dismissal from the party through a politburo decision last week.
The Kwekwe strongman reportedly shook President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Zanu PF by organising a massive rally for the former President Robert Mugabe backed National Patriotic Front (NPF) in his former constituency of Kwekwe Central.
Several thousands of people turned up for the opposition rally in Mnangagwa’s own backyard — thanks to Matambanadzo’s popularity in the city.
Matambanadzo said that he was very happy to be fired from Zanu PF because he had gone through a lot of hell in the years that he had been in the party.
“When I heard that the Zanu PF politburo had made the decision to fire me, I was very elated because I had been tormented by the party. I felt like someone that had been released from a filthy jail because they used to treat me as if I was a smelly person,” Matambanadzo said.
“Since 2013 when I was elected MP up to the time that I was fired, President Emmerson Mnangagwa made sure that I was removed from Zanu PF party structures until I became an ordinary card-carrying member. It got to the extent that recently during the primary elections, my curriculum vitae was removed so that I could not contest.
“During my tenure as MP, I suffered a lot and I was barred from attending some events in Midlands, and whenever Cabinet ministers came to Kwekwe to officiate at company occasions, I was ordered not to attend.”
Matambanadzo alleged Mnangagwa had always wanted his relative, Cornelius Mupereri, to be Kwekwe Central MP instead of him. And, when he beat Mupereri during the party primary elections years ago, Mnangagwa allegedly began to treat him badly.
“I was always victimised for that to the extent that I was even barred from conducting meetings with councillors in Kwekwe. It was so bad that I was often arraigned before the courts on spurious allegations like that I had insulted a top official. I would be jailed for five to six days, and with such situations, why shouldn’t I be happy for being fired from Zanu PF?”
Matambanadzo said due to his ill-treatment in Zanu PF, he had no choice but to make a decision to cross over to the National Patriotic Front (NPF) led by former Mashonaland East provincial affairs minister Ambrose Mutinhiri. NPF is strongly linked to Mugabe, who was ousted by the military in November last year.
He said due to the nasty ordeals he encountered with Mnangagwa while in Zanu PF, he had no reason to wish him well in the forthcoming elections.
“If Mugabe was not removed in an undignified manner like what happened, Zanu PF was going to win the elections, but now there are serious question marks about their victory. Given the rough treatment that I got in Zanu PF and the way they removed me, why should I wish for Mnangagwa to win? In fact,I learnt through the grapevine that Mnangagwa personally ordered that I be fired from the party,” he said.
