Mugabe Opposition Party Registers With ZEC

NPF Registers to contest elections

By Paul Nyathi

Former President Robert Mugabe initiated new opposition party the National Patriotic Front has officially availed itself as a formal party to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission.

In a letter dated the 6th of March, 2018, party President Retired Brigadier General Ambrose Mutinhiri proclaimed that the party is going to be contesting all elections in the country conducted by ZEC.

According to the letter the party was established on the 7th of December, 2017. The date shows that the party was established within less than a month after Mugabe was removed from power on the 14th of November.

According to Zimbabwean laws, political parties do not need to register as an organisation but just formulate themselves and only advise ZEC of their intentions to contest elections.

FULL TEXT: EU Draft Framework for Future Relationship With UK

Statement by President Donald Tusk on the draft guidelines on the framework for the future relationship with the UK.

Good afternoon.

I am very happy to be back in Luxembourg. And very happy to be here with my colleague and good friend, Prime Minister Bettel, to discuss the agenda of the March European Council.

Two hours ago, I sent the EU27 Member States my draft guidelines for our relations with the UK after Brexit. I’m here in Luxembourg to consult the Prime Minister on these guidelines that I hope will be adopted at our European Council in March. It is not a coincidence that once again I start my consultations ahead of a European Council meeting here in Luxembourg with Prime Minister Bettel. I really value your advice – always very constructive and responsible.

My proposal shows that we doesn’t want to build a wall between the EU and Britain. On the contrary, the UK will be our closest neighbour and we want to remain friends and partners also after Brexit. Partners that are as close as possible, just like we have said from the very first day after the referendum.

And, in this spirit, I propose close cooperation within the following areas.

Firstly, as we are confronted with similar security threats, I propose that the EU and the UK continue our common fight against terrorism and international crime. The increasing global instability requires our uninterrupted cooperation in defence and foreign affairs. It is about the security of our citizens, which must be preserved beyond Brexit.

Secondly, we invite the UK to participate in EU programmes in the fields of research and innovation, as well as in education and culture. This is key to maintain mutually beneficial and enriching personal networks in these vital areas, and for our community of values to prosper also in future.

Thirdly, I am determined to avoid that particularly absurd consequence of Brexit that is the disruption of flights between the UK and the EU. To do so, we must start discussions on this issue as soon as possible.

Now, coming to the core of our future economic relationship. During my talks in London last Thursday, and in her speech last Friday, Prime Minister Theresa May confirmed that the UK will leave the Single Market, leave the customs union and leave the jurisdiction of the ECJ (European Court of Justice). Therefore, it should come as no surprise that the only remaining possible model is a free trade agreement. I hope that it will be ambitious and advanced – and we will do our best, as we did with other partners, such as Canada recently – but anyway it will only be a trade agreement.

I propose that we aim for a trade agreement covering all sectors and with zero tariffs on goods. Like other free trade agreements, it should address services. And in fisheries, reciprocal access to fishing waters and resources should be maintained.

This positive approach doesn’t change the simple fact that because of Brexit we will be drifting apart. In fact, this will be the first FTA in history that loosens economic ties, instead of strengthening them. Our agreement will not make trade between the UK and the EU frictionless or smoother. It will make it more complicated and costly than today, for all of us. This is the essence of Brexit.

To sum up, we will enter the negotiations of the future relations with the UK with an open, positive and constructive mind, but also with realism. From my point of view, the outcome of the negotiations must pass two key tests:

– the test of balance of rights and obligations. For example, the EU cannot agree to grant the UK the rights of Norway with the obligations of Canada;

– the test of integrity of the Single Market. No Member State is free to pick only those sectors of the Single Market it likes, nor to accept the role of the ECJ only when it suits their interest. By the same token, a pick-and-mix approach for a non-member state is out of the question. We are not going to sacrifice these principles. It’s simply not in our interest.

Finally, a few words about another topic of the March summit. Following the announcement of President Trump, there is a risk of a serious trade dispute between the United States and the rest of the world, including the EU. President Trump has recently said, and I quote: ‘trade wars are good, and easy to win’. But the truth is quite the opposite: trade wars are bad, and easy to lose. For this reason, I strongly believe that now is the time for politicians on both sides of the Atlantic to act responsibly.

Given that President Trump’s announcement may have repercussions for our citizens and European businesses, not to mention the global economy, I will propose that the EU leaders have an extraordinary trade debate at the upcoming summit. We should have a clear objective in mind: to keep world trade alive. And, if necessary, to protect Europeans against trade turbulence, including by proportionate responses in accordance with the WTO. Thank you.

ZANU PF Youth Tell Mugabe To Sit Down

By Paul Nyathi

The Zanu-PF Youth League has fired warning shots at former President Robert Mugabe after he endorsed the New Patriotic Front (NPF) party.

The party, which is a direct split from the ruling ZANU PF, is being led by Retired Brigadier General Ambrose Mutinhiri who was endorsed by Mugabe last week.

Pupurai Togarepi, the 54-year old leader of the Zanu-PF Youth League as well as a Politburo member warned Mugabe that the youth are not happy with his involvement in the opposition politics urging him to refrain from the political involvement.

“What Mugabe should know is … we respect him only if he respects us,” said Togarepi.

“If he decides to rock the boat and then his actions affect the stability of the party … he should be ready for the storm to come…we will not be soft with him,” said Togarepi.

The youth leader under played Mugabe’s newly initiated opposition party describing it as “child play of politicians who have lost political relevance”.

“As the youth league. we view this as child play and we are ready for them,” he said.

“To us, it’s a bunch of failures trying to come back into politics, but that they are failures is their problem, not ours.”

VIDEO: Grace Mugabe Remains Expelled

Members of the expelled G-40 faction including former First Lady Grace Mugabe can only rejoin Zanu-PF after five years.

“Confirmed by the extra ordinary Congress, (the G40 members) remain expelled and can only reapply if they wish to join the party after five years,” Zanu PF spokesman Simon Khaya Moyo reported back on the Politburo meeting. Former President Robert Mugabe recently reported to the African Union that since his ousting from power by the military last November Grace cries everyday.

LATEST- Harare Passes Motion to Name Road in Honour of Tsvangirai

By Talent Gondo|

Harare councilors today moved a motion to rename one road in the central business district , Harare after the late MDC T founding father and President, Morgan Richard Tsvangirai.

The councillors, the majority of whom are from the opposition, Movement for Democratic Change said this motion was above board considering the important role played by the late Tsvangirai in the country’s politics.

Tsvangirai, 65, succumbed to colon cancer on February 14 2018 and was buried at his rural home in Humanikwa Village, Buhera.

The late opposition leader was offered a state assisted funeral despite calls for him to be buried at the national shrine.

He was however denied hero status and was not buried at the National Heroes Acre, a development which has over the years sparked outrage as heroes’ status is determined by Zanu Pf’ s highest decision making body, the politburo.

The motion to rename one road in Harare was moved by MDC-T councilor, Peter Moyo who represents Rugare.

Councilor Moyo proposed the motion suggesting that the country should not ignore the late MDC-T leader’s contribution to the development and democracy of Zimbabwe.

Last year, opposition parties reacted angrily to the renaming of Harare International Airport after President Robert Gabriel Mugabe in a process which gobbled over $500 000.

Obert Gutu, the party’s spokesperson is on record saying the party abhors and condemns “the personalisation and privatisation of national institutions.”

Mugabe Must Return Externalised Funds: Mliswa

By Talent Gondo| Calls for President Emmerson Mnangagwa to walk the talk on transparency and accountability regarding externalised funds have intensified amid calls for him to encourage his predecessor Robert Mugabe to return externalised funds and property during the extension period which he offered last week.

Norton legislator, Temba Mliswa called on the Mugabes citing the former first lady Grace, to return “all she took” during the amnesty period.

“Robert Gabriel Mugabe must urge his wife to return all she took including properties in South Africa and Singapore,” said Mliswa on Twitter.

He said the return should be inclusive of the 21 farms which the former  first family allegedly own.

“The law must take its course and assets  should be accounted for to avoid a scenario where leaders do things with impunity expecting to be forgiven and treated with kids’ gloves,” tweeted Mliswa.

President Mnangagwa initially offered a three month moratorium to those who illegally  externalised funds indicating that those who did not heed his call to return the funds would be arrested and prosecuted.

Last week, while speaking at the  Zimbabwe Trade and Investment Conference, President Mnangagwa said those who illegally externalised money had been given another two weeks to comply with the moratorium whose deadline was now the 16th of March.

President Manangagwa however warned that on the 19th of March, a list of those who would have failed to comply with the directive will be published, before the law takes its course.

Netone Refunds 180 000 Customers Missing One Fusion Data

By Paul Nyathi

Giant government owned mobile phone service provider Netone has refunded over 180 000 subscribers data bundles that allegedly disappeared from their mobile phones unused.

The refunds follow a Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (Potraz) directive to NetOne ordering the mobile network operator to refund subscriber’s funds which “disappeared” when using OneFusion in January and February this year.

The authority had reported that it had received numerous complaints from subscribers and decided to take action.

Netone is refunding 150 Megabytes data to all the 180 000 subscribers starting Wednesday morning.

We publish the authority’s letter which was sent to Netone in February in full below:

RE: BILLING COMPLAINTS ON NETONE DATA BUNDLES

We refer to the above matter.

The Authority has noted the billing challenges you are facing with the Onefusion product. We have also noted that you have sent a communication to your subscribers advising and admitting the same challenges. Given the extent and magnitude of complaints raised to the Regulator by the subscribers, we hereby direct you to compensate the affected consumers in accordance with the prejudice they endured. This is done in the spirit of promoting the consumers’ right to complain and redress.

Accordingly, you are further requested to provide the Authority with a database of affected subscribers that provides details of the subscriber including the name, number, and the extent to which each of them was affected in monetary terms and the compensation levels extended to the affected subscribers. The database will enable us to conduct an audit trail on whether all affected subscribers have been compensated accordingly. The database should be submitted to the Authority by 28 February 2018. You are also advised to furnish the authority with measures that you have put in place to ensure that challenges of this nature will not recur.

ZANU PF Politburo Meets, Prepares For Elections

An Ordinary Session of the Zanu PF politburo is underway at the party headquarters in Harare this Wednesday morning.

Issues of major concern in the deliberations centre on preparations for the elections.

The meeting is tackling the party manifesto, regalia and party campaign and mobilisation activities.

The party guidelines and principles on primary elections are also on the agenda.

The session has also seen the coming on board of Kenneth Musanhu as a new member of the politburo.

Musanhu’s advent into the politburo follows the announcement made by President Emmerson Mnangagwa when he visited Mashonaland Central and told the people that he will add another politburo member from the province since Retired Air Chief Marshal Perrance Shiri was the only one in that organ from there at the time.

The late George Rutanhire who both hailed from that province had not been replaced. – state media

Donald Trump Exposed As Top Aide Resigns

Gary Cohn, Donald Trump’s top economic adviser, has resigned after losing a heated White House battle over trade, dealing a major blow to administration officials and congressional Republicans seeking to rein in the president’s plan to impose harsh tariffs on steel and aluminium imports.

In a statement on Tuesday, the White House said Mr Cohn, the former number two at Goldman Sachs who had served as head of Mr Trump’s National Economic Council since he took office in January 2017, would be leaving in the coming weeks.

“It has been an honour to serve my country and enact pro-growth economic policies to benefit the American people, in particular the passage of historic tax reform,” Mr Cohn said in a statement. “I am grateful to the president for giving me this opportunity and wish him and the administration great success in the future.”

Mr Trump said in statement: “Gary has been my chief economic adviser and did a superb job in driving our agenda, helping to deliver historic tax cuts and reforms and unleashing the American economy once again. He is a rare talent, and I thank him for his dedicated service to the American people.”

Earlier in the day, the president signalled changes were on the way in his White House staff. Disputing media reports of chaos within his administration, he said in a tweet: “I still have some people that I want to change (always seeking perfection)”.

Mr Cohn’s resignation came days after Mr Trump’s decision last week to ignore his advice and make an ad hoc announcement that he planned to impose tariffs of 25 per cent on steel and 10 per cent on aluminium on imports from all countries.

His departure is one of several at the White House in recent weeks, including Hope Hicks, the communications director, and Rob Porter, the staff secretary. The White House said in December that Dina Powell, a deputy national security adviser and another Goldman veteran, would also be leaving the administration. – Agencies

Women Demand Political Equalization With Male Counterparts

By Paul Nyathi

Zimbabwean women have sent an ultimatum demanding urgent equalization with their male counterparts in the political adminstration of the country.

Hundreds of women drawn from across the country met in Harare on Tuesday where they demanded that government enforces the provisions of the Constitution and give 50 – 50 opportunities to women against males.

Convened by the Zimbabwe Women Parliamentary Caucus, the women launchec a manifesto which they demanded that government adopts as a matter of urgency.

Part of the demands by the women was a call to amend the constitution to extend the term of the women’s quota representation in the National Assembly.

The women further called on political parties to stick to the constitutional provision to present half their party leadership to women.

Officially adopting the manifesto, speaker of parliament Advocate Jacob Mudenda urged all political parties to align their constitutions with the constitution of the country to enable the realisation of the 50/50 gender representation in parliament or risk litigation.

The achievement of 50/50 gender equality across all sectors in line with the constitutional provisions on equality remains an illusion as most political parties have not adopted this in their constitutions.

Advocate Mudenda implored the women to challenge the status quo and fight hard for their constitutionally enshrined rights to equality.

“You must take up the matter with your political parties ahead of the election. The constitution is very clear that women should have equal representation in the socio – economic and political sphere in society,” he said.

Women parliamentarians from across the political divide converged and came up with a manifesto for the 2018 – 2023 period which sets the guidelines for them to be voted into political office.

ZWPC Chairperson, Cde Monica Mutsvagwa implored women to use the manifesto as their campaign guide.

“Let’s use this manifesto as our campaign guide and ensure that we get our space,” she said.

The women’s manifesto is a 30-paged document spearheaded by women parliamentarians from Zanu PF, MDC-T and MDC.

It lays out the basis for voting women into power, access to justice and equal benefit of the law and women and economic development, among other issues.

The women also came up with an elections charter for the 2018 harmonised polls.

Attempt At Mugabe’s 2nd Coming Lost Cause

Tafara Shumba, Whenever a leopard wants to eat its own kid, it first accuses it of smelling like a goat. Former Minister of State for Mashonaland East Provincial affairs, Retired Brigadier General, Ambrose Mutinhiri has lived up to this adage.

Mutinhiri resigned from both ZANU PF and House of Assembly where he was Marondera East legislator on ZANU PF ticket. He cited the way that former President Robert Mugabe and the G40 cabal were ousted from power in November last year. According to Mutinhiri, Cde Mugabe was dethroned through a coup d’état. Thus, in other words, his resignation was in solidarity with Cde Mugabe to whom he is eternally grateful for fishing him out of the political doldrums. Mutinhiri plunged into the political quagmire following a severing of relations with his erstwhile party, ZAPU.

During the accreditation process for ZANU PF extra-ordinary congress in December last year, yours truly met Mutinhiri at the Party’s headquarters in a jovial mood. A conversation with him showed that he was more than happy that Cde Mugabe had finally exited the State House. His glimmering face could betray his approval of what he is now calling ‘coup.’ Such two-facedness is not an attribute for presidential hopefuls. It’s unfortunate that Mutinhiri was probably in Marondera on the historic 18 November 2017 where Zimbabweans unanimously made a clear statement that it was time for Cde Mugabe to step down.

SADC, AU and other international bodies endorsed the new administration. Even the country’s former nemeses have expressed interest to re-engage Zimbabwe in its bid for economic regeneration. Who is Mutinhiri then to denounce what everybody else endorsed? He has, all of a sudden, started to see an underhand in the ascendance of President Emmerson Mnangagwa to power.

Without taking away his immense contributions during the liberation struggle for Zimbabwe and those that he made in the early post-independence era, Cde Mugabe had overstayed in power. His stay was no longer adding any value to this country. The economy was deteriorating by every passing day and the captive leader was fast destroying the revolutionary Party. The G40 cabal which was fronted by his wife, Grace Mugabe, stole the man’s legacy. Even those who pretended to love him, secretly wished he could step down for the amelioration of people’s lives. Mutinhiri should have watched Dr Sydney Sekeremayi getting down in jubilation upon news that Cde Mugabe had finally resigned.

Mutinhiri should have read the political temperature before accepting that punch bag-role. It shocks everybody that there are still some people dreaming of Cde Mugabe’s second coming. Only criminals, who have been taking advantage of the former leader’s senility to commit crimes with impunity, can be nostalgic of the former first family. Mutinhiri believes, wrongly so, that Cde Mugabe is still as popular as he used to be. He, therefore, feels greatly honoured to hobnob with him. Mutinhiri must yield the ghost he has for Cde Mugabe.

Reality must cross Mutinhiri’s mind that Cde Mugabe is no longer the head of State and will never be one again. He is now a former, a position that he will hold till his death. If Cde Mugabe was wise enough, he would thrive to preserve the remnant legacy that the new administration is trying hard to maintain. He is one of the luckiest former Head of State in the world, considering the way his captive administration messed up the country and persecuted innocent cadres. He must enjoy his pension in his twilight years. Probably history would judge him fairly one day. He fought a good fight but eventually allowed his legacy to be soiled by carpetbaggers. He must leave politics, lest he gets a treatment befitting an opposition politician bent on spoiling the ZANU PF vote.

As for the poor Mutinhiri, it appears the spirit of selling-out runs in the Mutinhiri family. His estranged wife, Tracy Mutinhiri is one of the first ZANU PF members to cross the floor to the MDC-T. She finally defected after years of clandestinely working at cross purpose with ZANU PF legislators in Parliament. At one time, she frustrated ZANU PF’s numerical advantage in Parliament by voting alongside the opposition for the election of former speaker, Lovemore Moyo. That’s the Mutinhiris for you. Ambrose will not surprise anyone.

What, however, surprises is his paucity for political judgement. The former soldier allowed himself to be used as a political pawn in advancing the interests of certain political has-beens. He should be schooled on what it means to be an interim leader. Those who are driving the project have already made it clear to him that he is just holding forte for them. With the level of his political immaturity, Mutinhiri is likely to be nowhere near the corridors of power in that party. It was not worth it for Mutinhiri to give up his Marondera East seat for some spurious position in the so-called New Patriotic Front.

Mnangagwa Mobilises Party Youths

PRESIDENT Mnangagwa will today make his inaugural address to Zanu-PF youths when he delivers a key note address during the Youth League’s national assembly in Harare. The Zanu-PF Politburo also meets today at the party’s headquarters.
Both meetings are expected to set the tone for the revolutionary party’s campaign for the harmonised elections later this year. Zanu-PF spokesperson Cde Simon Khaya Moyo yesterday said: “The Zanu-PF secretary for administration Dr Obert Mpofu is advising that there will be a Politburo meeting tomorrow at 9AM at the party headquarters. All members are requested to be punctual.”

Cde Khaya Moyo did not reveal the Politburo agenda, but indications are that focus will be on election preparations, as well as economic issues.

Zanu-PF secretary for Youth Affairs Cde Pupurai Togarepi confirmed the wing’s national assembly meeting today.

The national assembly draws together all provincial members of the Youth League and is a party constitutional meeting that should be held twice a year.

“We are fulfilling a party constitutional requirement and we expect more than 400 youths from all the 10 provinces,” Cde Togarepi said. “This will be the party youths’ first meeting with the First Secretary and President Cde Mnangagwa in the new dispensation.
“We urge all provincial members to attend. We have high expectations as we continue laying the ground ahead of elections in a few months to come.”

The Youth League yesterday held a national executive meeting in preparation of today’s indaba.
Cde Togarepi said the youths would have an opportunity to present issues affecting them to the President.

“Since this is our first meeting, the youths have various issues across sectors and they will be presented tomorrow and unlike those Interface Rallies we expect the President to respond,” he said.
He said the Youth League was oiling its machine ahead of the elections with meetings being held across the country. “We are geared up and we are moving around the country conscientising the youths on our programmes, where we are coming from, where we are and where we are going,” Cde Togarepi said.

“This time we are even having meetings at district levels as we continue to capture the grassroots. We are moving with the ED Has My Vote hashtag and nothing will stop us from posting a resounding victory with the ground we have laid.

“A large number of people registered to vote in this year’s elections are the youths and it means they have a big role to play in deciding our destiny.

“First, we have been encouraging the youths to register and now its time for the final blow and we are urging them to vote for Zanu-PF as it is the only party, in the wake of the new dispensation, with capable leaders to deliver on their aspirations.”

Women and youths dominate the number of registered voters ahead of the polls.
Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) latest statistics show that from the 5,3 million people who registered to vote 54,5 percent of them are women and 45,5 percent are men.

The electoral commission statistics also show that youths between the ages of 18 to 34 constitute 43,5 percent of registered voters, followed by the 35 to 59 age group who make up 42,9 percent of registered voters.

Zec also revealed that those who are 60 years and above make up 13,6 percent of registered voters. Herald

Don’t Waste Your Time Thinking of What People Think About You

By Robson Melassi | Do not waste your time thinking of what people think about you. They are also busy thinking of what you think about them. Remember there is a committee somewhere sitting discussing your future. Only that you are not invited. So why worry?

War Veterans Warn Mugabe, “He Is Misguided”

Mugabe with Mutinhiri

By Paul Nyathi| The Zimbabwe National War Veterans Association has warned former President Robert Mugabe to stop meddling in the current politics in the country.

In an interview with the privately owned Daily News, the war veterans leader Victor Matemadanda accused Mugabe of failing to appreciate the benevolence extended to him by the new President Emerson Mnangagwa government.

Matemadanda said this reacting to Mugabe’s reported links to a new opposition political party National Patriotic Front which is splitting from the ruling ZANU PF.

Mugabe is reportedly the brain child behind the new party in which he personally appointed Retired Brigadier General Ambrose Mutinhiri as interim leader.

Matemadanda said Mugabe will attract the wreath of the ruling party if he continues with his new political affiliation.

“Remember he walked away when he did not deserve to walk away a free man,” said Matemadanda.

“He was supposed to be sentenced to prison but the people of Zimbabwe forgave him but now we are seeing that he does not have a culture of appreciation,” he added.

Matemadanda further warned that if Mugabe does not stop his plans against the ruling party, they will be forced to take away some of the farms he grabbed during the fast trek land redistribution exercise.

Matemadanda claimed the Mugabe family had amassed 14 farms and that these could be seized as punishment for the disloyalty.

“He is the person who brought the policy – one family one farm – yet he has over 14 farms and he must lose those, and we are ready to take them as war veterans,” said Matemadanda.

Police Try To Steal Povo’s Glory Over Rapist Suspect’s Arrest

just after being given a citizens arrest…murder suspect tied to a rope
Editor
It’s disheartening and bitter to swallow the fact that the police force Masvingo province are claiming that they reacted swiftly to the call by the public that the serial rapist had been apprehended by members of the public.

We want to set the record straight that it is the United people of Mutote who braved and sacrificed to wrestle a knife armed rapist who even tried to stab the guys who apprehended him. He was overpowered and bound using ropes. The police where nowhere to be found. He was handed over to the police who brought in guns to now guard an already disarmed dangerman for them to proceed with investigations.

While I don’t want to despise or take anything away from the police force, let’s shower praises where they are due, this world has eyes.

‘No Reforms – No Elections Strategy’ Should Be A Slogan Of The Opposition Forces Ahead Of The 2018 Elections

By Don Chigumba |There is no reason for the opposition forces to participate in a predetermined election, were it is obvious that ZANU PF will rig the processes of that election. No electoral reforms took place during the first 100 days of President Mnangagwa in Power. The president has not yet announced to the public the actual date of 2018 elections. The chairperson of ZEC Judge Chigumba is reluctant to remove workers with security background in her team for the reasons known to her. There is no clear roadmap of how the ballot papers should be printed and verified by all the presidential contestants. We don’t know how ZEC is going to verify the voter’s roll to the best interest of all the Zimbabwean voters.
At the moment, every evidence is pointing to the rigging of 2018 elections in favor of the ruling party. Opposition parties are not given slots on the national television and government radio stations. This piece therefore seeks to advise the opposition forces to refused to legitimize ZANU PF government by participating in a rigged election. The opposition forces have not shown seriousness in pushing Judge Chigumba and ZEC, so that everything happening become transparent to electorate.
ZANU PF is at its lowest point since 1980, the division in the party is not likely to make them win the coming elections. ZANU PF was supposed to take advantage of Mugabe brand during this coming elections but President Mnangagwa decided to stop the use of Mugabe’s regalia among their supporters. I told you before that President Mnangagwa will not succeed without the blessings of Mr. R.G. Mugabe. The focus of opposition forces should be on Judge Chigumba and ZEC, Zimbabweans should be assured of free, fair and transparent elections now.
The formalization of G40 party under the leadership of Mutinhiri is another serious blow to ZANU PF party because Mutinhiri has got support of the former President Mugabe and is likely going to give them a go ahead to use the Mugabe brand during the campaigning. For a party to become victorious in the coming elections, it should be blessed by either Mugabe brand or Tsvangirai brand. Therefore, for president Mnangagwa to carry the day, he should go and apologize before Mr. R.G. Mugabe and get his blessings before the 2018 elections. Piling pressure on Judge Chigumba and ZEC is the only medicine for treating ZANU PF.
Apart from the G40 party under Mutinhiri, the cabinet appointed by President Mnangagwa and his poor performance in his first 100 days in power are going to be threats to the image of ZANU PF. Zimbabweans cannot afford to go for another five year term with the likes of Obert Mpofu, Supa Madiwanzira just to mention a few. ZANU PF government knows that people are fade up, their only hope is on manipulating the elections and Judge Chigumba and ZEC be scrutinized by the public.
It is therefore clear that, ZANU PF is at its lowest point since 1980 and therefore, the opposition forces should be united so that they push for free, fair and transparent elections. I am not advocating for the formation of an alliance among all political players in Zimbabwe but I am only urging them to come together and force Judge Chigumba and ZEC to be transparent in everything they are doing.
In his address during a political rally in Chinhoyi, MDC-T Presidential candidate Nelson Chamisa hinted of a ‘no reforms no election strategy’, a move which should be hailed. Nelson Chamisa should sell the idea to all serious presidential candidates like Joice Mujuru, Mutinhiri, Khupe among others. They should give ZEC an ultimatum of 7 days so that they can be allowed to send their teams to ZEC to assess it preparedness and level of transparence before the coming elections. If ZEC is not going to comply, they should send a strong message by not participating in the rigged elections.
Conclusion
The military took power by force and give it to President Mnangagwa, they are not thinking of giving power within a silver plate. The only way for the opposition forces is to demand for free, fair and transparent elections and if nothing have been done, they should boycott the 2018 elections. They should not legitimize the military government. Another NIKUV should be avoided at all costs.
ZANU PF government’s energy should be solely in Judge Chigumba and ZEC, the military intervention won’t be accepted by the world. Therefore, opposition forces should focus much on Judge Chigumba and ZEC rather than campaigning. All presidential candidates should come together and face Judge Chigumba and ZEC head on.

EU Envoy Speaks On MDC Violence

EUROPEAN  Union Ambassador to Zimbabwe Mr Philippe Van Damme has bemoaned the intra party violence within the opposition MDC-T saying the party was losing credibility as a political movement.

Violence erupted at the MDC-T Bulawayo offices over the weekend as supporters of the party’s president Nelson Chamisa allegedly targeted a rival faction led by Dr Thokozani Khupe.
The MDC-T has been thrown into turmoil following the death of its leader Mr Morgan Tsvangirai last month.

The party’s national council has since confirmed Mr Chamisa as the party’s leader and presidential candidate in the forthcoming polls while Dr Khupe argues that constitutionally, she is the opposition party’s acting leader pending Congress.

The differences have triggered intra party violence. Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of a civil society meeting in Gweru yesterday, Ambassador Van Damme said the violence being witnessed in the MDC-T has resulted in the party losing credibility as a political movement.

“Political violence has to be condemned in all circumstances, loudly, clearly and without any reservations. Political violence is totally unacceptable in the democratic debate. If it relates to intra party as we have indeed seen over the last couple of weeks, this also penalises the party’s concerns and credibility so they have to work on that,” he said.

Ambassador Van Damme challenged MDC-T leaders to address the violence as a matter of urgency.
“They have a challenge and they have to address that challenge. We hope this will not degenerate further and see also inter-party violence which will have an impact on how elections will be viewed,” he added.

President Mnangagwa has pledged to ensure that the forthcoming general elections will be free, fair and credible.

Speaking during an interactive meeting with heads of church denominations in Harare on Monday, President Mnangagwa urged political parties to shun violence ahead of harmonised elections this year saying those with better ideas will win the polls. Herald

Picture Of Tsvangirai Appointing Mudzuri His Successor, What Will Khupe Say Now If This Ain’t Photoshop?

By Farai D Hove| As the late MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai struggled on during his last days, MDC Deputy President Elias Mudzuri allegedly obtained the below letter of appointment as his successor.

If proven true, the matter will elbow out the elected Vice President Thokozani Khupe who has been claiming she, not Nelson Chamisa, is the one meant to be leading the party at present. In that event also, Mudzuri will be found guilty of taking pictures of the MDC leader during his weakest moments. Is the below picture authentic?

” Exam Cheats” In Court Monday

The hearing of a matter involving 15 Gweru-based Regina Mundi High School pupils who were blacklisted by the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (Zimsec) for alleged examination cheating has been set for March 12.

Bulawayo High Court judge Justice Nokuthula Moyo will preside over the hearing.

The 15 pupils, through their parents, filed a court application at the Bulawayo High Court challenging the nullification of their November 2017 results by Zimsec.

They are seeking an order directing Zimsec to set aside its decision to cancel their November 2017 examination results.

In papers before the court, the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Professor Paul Mavhima and Zimsec were cited as respondents.

One of the pupils, believed to be the mastermind, is alleged to have mobilised her classmates to contribute $3 each towards raising money that was used to purchase copies of the November 2017 Examinations question papers for English Paper 2 and Mathematics Paper 2.

According to court papers, the pupil allegedly received the question papers on her mobile phone via social media platform, WhatsApp, and shared them with her classmates. They then allegedly smuggled the papers into the examination room.

One of the 15 parents representing the pupils said Zimsec blacklisted his child without making an inquiry to establish the facts.

“This application is made to review the decision adopted by Zimsec to annul all the results of the applicants on allegations of cheating. It is also the basis of this application in that the reasons of the decision reached by Zimsec have not been availed. At the same time, there is no averment on the inquiry made and its nature before the decision was arrived at, let alone the evidence used in the process,” the parent, whose name has been withheld to protect the identity of the minor, said in his founding affidavit.

He said the pupils were unfairly treated.

The parent said they received the message of the nullification of results from a school official through WhatsApp.

He also said Zimsec conducted its own inquiry and quizzed two pupils who then ultimately implicated all the applicants.

The parents’ lawyers, Garikayi and Company, said the pupils’ rights were violated in terms of section 3 of the Administrative Justice Act because they did not appear before a proper board to defend themselves.

Section 34 (3) of the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council Act stipulates that it shall not be necessary for the Zimsec board to consult or hear representations before cancelling or annulling the results of an examination.

They said the decision by Zimsec to blacklist the pupils and nullify their results is draconian, irrational and grossly unreasonable.

“The nullification of results for subjects which do not form part of the allegations is unfair and unjust considering that there was no misconduct alleged in these examinations,” said the lawyers.

Recently, High Court judge Justice Loice Matanda-Moyo overturned Prof Mavhima’s order compelling all the 260 000 students who sat for last November’s Ordinary Level English Paper 2 examination to be re-examined.

The judge ordered Zimsec to release results using the outcome of the English Language Paper 1 examination and the examinations body complied with the order.

Prof Mavhima had ordered a re-sit following reports of massive leakages of the paper through social media.-state media

Mugabe Ruled 37 Yrs, He Got a Fat Cow; Mnangagwa’s Will Not Last 37 Months, He Got An Unproductive And Dying One

By Patrick Guramatunhu| “Charova seichando kukwidza hamba mumuti!” (It will have to be a bitterly cold spell to force the tortoise to climb a tree!) goes the Shona adage. Well the “tortoise” in the Blue Roof has learned to climb trees!

“Nobody would have thought that the same Mugabe who ignored calls for electoral reforms for almost two decades is now set to demand the same,” wrote Robert Singauke, SA based Political Analyst.

“The tide has changed, indeed the donkeys have grown horns. His authoritative voice commandeered almost everything in the country since 1980, now his own New Patriotic Front (NPF) project will sulk “We urge the Emmerson government to implement electoral reforms to create a conducive environment for free and fair elections.” How the mighty have fallen.”

Here is the man who has done everything, absolutely everything in his power, legal and illegal, to make sure that he and his party ever risk losing any elections by allowing Zimbabweans to have free, fair and credible elections. Even the 1980 elections which organised and conducted by the British, Mugabe saw to it that they were not free and fair in his favour.

It is no secret that Zanu PF did not withdraw all its Zanla freedom fighters from the field into Assembly Points as per Lancaster House Agreement. Those left in the field were instructed to tell the people that the civil war would pick-up from where it left off should Zanu PF lose the elections. The late Cephas Msipa, a senior PF Zapu member and Zanu PF’s main political threat in the 1980 elections, confirmed that there were many “no go areas” for PF Zapu in that election. Zanu PF operatives would not allow anyone else to campaign in those areas.

(History has the habit of repeating itself. President Mnangagwa has deployed war veterans backed by 2 000 Army personal country wide to replicate the 1980 success.)

Ever since Mugabe got into power following the 1980 election victory, he has worked tireless to undermine Zimbabwe’s democratic institutions to create a de facto one-party dictatorship. His quarrel with his fellow liberation icon Dr Joshua Nkomo, for whatever reasons, gave Mugabe the excuse to deploy his North Korea trained Fifth Brigade to spear head the now infamous Gukurahundi. The primary purpose of Gukurahundi was not destroy PF Zapu as a political party by targeting the party’s leaders and supporters.

Although Mugabe did not succeed in destroying PF Zapu; he did the next best thing, forced PF Zapu to be disbanded in 1987 and join Zanu PF with Mugabe as the undisputed First Secretary of the party. The foundation of the de facto one-party cum one-party dictatorship was laid. Since then Mugabe has continued to work tireless to consolidate his and Zanu PF political strangle hold.

Even when the people became angry at Zanu PF’s failure to deliver economic prosperity whilst the ruling elite grew fat, physically and economically; Zanu PF continued to win elections regardless, thanks to the party’s ever-increasing vote rigging capability. The Zanu PF vote rigging juggernaut faced its greatest challenge ever in 2008 elections.

The regime had to force ZEC to whittle down Tsvangirai’s 73% vote count to a 47% to force a run-off in a six-week long recount. Everyone could see the regime was cooking up the figures, everyone except Tsvangirai and his MDC friends and hence the reason Zanu PF got away with it.

In the run-off Zanu PF deployed its party thugs and war veterans supported by serving members from the Army, Police and CIO. They were instructed to punish the people for having reject Mugabe and Zanu PF in the March vote and to make sure they did not so again in the run-off and in future.
“What was accomplished by the bullet cannot be undone by the ballot,” Mugabe thundered.

The wanton violence was barbaric. “Mugabe has declared war on the people,” complained Tsvangirai when he announced his forced withdrawal from the race.

Not even SADC and the AU would endorse Mugabe’s election victory as free, fair and credible, even they could not stomach the blatant cheating and the gratuitous violence by the Zanu PF vote rigging juggernaut. SADC forced Mugabe to sign an agreement to implement a raft of democratic reforms to take away Zanu PF’s carte blanche power to cheat and use violence to rig elections.

Sadly, not even one reform was ever implemented in the five years of the GNU. Mugabe bribed Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC toads with the trappings of high office and they, in return, left Zanu PF’s vote rigging juggernaut untouched.

When then Army Commander Constantino Chiwenga and his posse of coup plotter woke Mugabe up in the small hours of 14 November 2017 to tell him the game was up for him they did not just force him to resign they also seized control of the Zanu PF vote rigging machinery. Mugabe knows just how power and unbeatable the system is hence the reason he is demanding that it must be dismantled!

What goes round, comes round; the vote rigging juggernaut spend his political life creating and fine tuning in now in his political rivalry’s hands. He does not like it but is totally helpless to do anything about it now!

“Going towards elections, the stakes will be very high. A militarised and illegitimate Zanu PF government that will leave nothing at chance to secure victory and sanitise itself,” continued Singauke.

“Then you have its offshoot opposition (NPF) that consists of architects of some of the well-oiled rigging machineries that kept Zanu PF in power for so long, watching like hawks at every turn to see which one is being pulled this time.

“Then you have a fractured opposition failing to contain itself because of power struggles. It is rather disconcerting however, that traditional opposition voters will not vote Zanu PF because MDC T is in disarray. They will rather abstain from the process altogether.”

Actually, abstain from this flawed and illegal process is the only sensible course of action. With no reforms in place President Mnangagwa will rig the elections just as readily as Zanu PF has always done. Although he has promised free, fair and credible elections he has pointedly refused to implement any democratic reforms and has even dismissed those calling for reforms as barking dogs.

Still, it is Mugabe who is going to have the final laugh in all this. Whilst Mugabe inherited from Ian Smith a robust, strong and very productive economy, a fat cow; he has handed over to Mnangagwa an all but collapse and dysfunctional economy, a thin and sickly cow. Mugabe had 37 years to turn the fat cow into the thin and sickly one.

Mnangagwa has the simple choice, implement the democratic reforms and someone else will be appoint over you to implement the reforms and once the reforms are in place; Zanu PF and Mnangagwa will lose the free, fair and credible elections.

The alternative is for Mnangagwa to holdout and refuse to implement reforms. The price for failing to implement reforms is that none of the foreign investors the country needs to revive the economy will not come. Unemployment is a nauseating 90%, ¾ of the population are living on US$1.00 a day, basic services such as health and education have all but collapsed, water and electricity power supplies are erratic, etc., etc.; if that is not a sick and dying economy then what is! With no new investors, it will not be long before the populous realise that their economic situation is not getting better as the coup plotters have been promising. The street protests of 2016 will be back, only the crowds will be larger and very angry. –

Mnangagwa Dishes Out Free Stands To Pastors And Prophets

A Correspondent| As the days to the upcoming 2018 elections draw near, President Emmerson Mnangagwa has announced he will be dishing out properties to pastors and other church leaders.

This follows a meeting presided by a preacher who was once beaten up by Vapositori in Budiriro 3 years ago.

Mnangagwa on Monday told pastors he will support them on a request for stands.

Pastors have asked for residential and church stands.

During the Monday meeting, pastors requested free stands with the leader of the Apostolic Christian Council of Zimbabwe Johannes Ndanga launching the demands.

Ndanga is the same man who once prophesied that former President Robert Mugabe would “rule the country until his death.”  Moreover in 2013, Ndanga said,

“As the ACCZ we stand guided by a 1934 prophecy by prophet Masedza that Mugabe would rule this country until he dies hence we will support him at the elections to ensure the prophecy comes to pass.”

Mnangagwa was then likened to the Biblical Joshua who led the Israelites out of Egypt to the Promised Land.

The controversial Ndanga said Mnangagwa’s administration should give free land to domestic churches the same way white colonial governments did to missionary churches.

Mnangagwa then announced that he shall honour his pledge.

EU Envoy Tells Chamisa To Fix Violence Problem As A Matter Of Urgency

“They have a challenge and they have to address that challenge. We hope this will not degenerate further and see also inter-party violence…”

Mnangagwa To Attend ZANU PF Youth League

President Emmerson Mnangagwa will today make his inaugural address to Zanu-PF youths when he delivers a key note address during the Youth League’s national assembly in Harare. The Zanu-PF Politburo also meets today at the party’s headquarters.

Both meetings are expected to set the tone for the revolutionary party’s campaign for the harmonised elections later this year. Zanu-PF spokesperson Simon Khaya Moyo yesterday said: “The Zanu-PF secretary for administration Dr Obert Mpofu is advising that there will be a Politburo meeting tomorrow at 9AM at the party headquarters. All members are requested to be punctual.”

Khaya Moyo did not reveal the Politburo agenda, but indications are that focus will be on election preparations, as well as economic issues.

Zanu-PF secretary for Youth Affairs Pupurai Togarepi confirmed the wing’s national assembly meeting today.

The national assembly draws together all provincial members of the Youth League and is a party constitutional meeting that should be held twice a year.

“We are fulfilling a party constitutional requirement and we expect more than 400 youths from all the 10 provinces,” Togarepi said. “This will be the party youths’ first meeting with the First Secretary and President Mnangagwa in the new dispensation.
“We urge all provincial members to attend. We have high expectations as we continue laying the ground ahead of elections in a few months to come.”

The Youth League yesterday held a national executive meeting in preparation of today’s indaba.
Togarepi said the youths would have an opportunity to present issues affecting them to the President.

“Since this is our first meeting, the youths have various issues across sectors and they will be presented tomorrow and unlike those Interface Rallies we expect the President to respond,” he said.
He said the Youth League was oiling its machine ahead of the elections with meetings being held across the country. “We are geared up and we are moving around the country conscientising the youths on our programmes, where we are coming from, where we are and where we are going,” Togarepi said.

– state media

Mutsvangwa Rubbishes Gono

Chris-Mutsvangwa

By Farai D Hove| Robert Mugabe’s nephew relation, Gideon Gono’s Special Economic Zones project has been challenged by President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s advisor Chris Mutsvangwa.

Since September last year, Gono has been taking away forex allocations dishing them to industry ports of his own choosing. That development led a critical shortage of foreign currency and industry players have since been complaining that Gono is the culprit stalling economic progress.

Gono was last year re-employed into the job which has ministerial powers to control forex reserves, in what many have cried as the return of the man who once presided over Zimbabwe’s worst monetary crisis since independence.

At the time when he introduced his Special Economic Zones job last year, Gono was caught on camera smuggling a bag through the Harare International Airport’s VIP passage area. (SEE VIDEO)

Gono says his method of squeezing forex allocations will create millions of jobs.

But Mutsvangwa has rubbished his method saying the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe must not interfere in the allocation of foreign currency as this gives impressions of a distorted economy.

Mutsvangwa said the solution to the shortage of foreign currency lay in growing exports while the RBZ needed to concentrate on its role as a regulator and not the current situation where it was focused on hard currency allocation and its utilisation as if that was its principal role.

Mutsvangwa was speaking at the Manicaland is Open for Business Conference in Mutare on Friday last week, the state media reports.

He said the role of central bank should be regulation of the financial services sector and creating a conducive monetary environment for the economy to thrive instead of usurping roles and functions of ordinary banks.

“Allocation of foreign currency by the RBZ is a sign of a distorted economy, and this must stop.
“The focus must be on increasing exports, we need to produce quality goods for the global market to earn foreign currency rather than a situation where companies rely on allocations from the central bank,” Mutsvangwa noted.

“The role of the central bank is to regulate the financial services sector and also creating an environment good for business.
“Foreign currency allocation is a signal of a kwashiorkor economy and President Mnangagwa is working on making sure this is corrected,” said Mutsvangwa.

“President Mnangagwa is pushing for policies that support investment and bringing capital in the country.

“Our foreign policy has since changed and it is the new Government’s thrust that we should be friends with everybody and an enemy to none,” Mutsvangwa said.

The Presidential advisor said there was a need for urgent implementation of Special Economic Zones to increase exports and Manicaland was the most strategic area for SEZs. He said the province was the gateway to the sea, through Beira in Mozambique, and it remained one of the most strategic areas for promotion of exports.

Mutsvangwa added that there had been massive interest from investors willing to make significant capital investments in various sectors of the economy. Through re-engagement efforts being undertaken by Government, some western countries which were hostile to Zimbabwe were beginning to warm up to the country.

“There is vibration from all over and they have since recognised that something is happening in Southern Africa and I cannot disclose the specifics at the moment, but we have been receiving positive responses from investors.

“Let’s improve productivity as a country and we have the capacity to do that, let’s produce goods for the global market,” he said.

Drama As Oppah Plans To Fly To Europe While South Africa Minister Sends Simple Video Via Email Text

Staff Reporter| There was drama yesterday when Environment Minister, Oppah Muchinguri was forced to at the last minute, abandon her long trip to Brussels, where she was flying out with a large entourage. The meeting was a function attended by heads of National Parks from a select Southern African countries and her South African counterpart sent to the EU parliament a simple email containing her own video recorded presentation.

Namibia was represented by that country’s local ambassador, and many other nations were not present.

The practice of ministers travelling abroad to perform duties which sitting ambassadors in those country can easily do was characteristic of the former Robert Mugabe regime.

The EU conference was on hunting and was dubbed “Keep Calm and Let Africa Take the Lead.”

Zimbabweans arriving at the European Parliament building hoping to see the minister who is also the ZANU PF National Chairperson, were disappointed as they found Mrs Muchinguri-Kashiri’s name deleted from the program file.

“She cancelled the trip at the last minute,” a parliament  official told ZimEye.com

More drama emerged when the function commenced with Zimbabwe having an empty seat at the stage, despite the ambassador Tadeous Chifamba being present in the room. Organisers later scrambled a plan to get him on stage and have his name printed and displayed.

While no explanation could be obtained at the time of writing, it was believed Muchinguri developed cold feet due to protests by animal rights groups baying for her scalp at the EU meeting following concerns over particularly illegal wildlife exports to China. Another matter is the way in which Minister Muchinguri suddenly fired a whole board of directors of the National Parks And Wildlife claiming they had encroached into her executive authority.

Ambassador Chifamba later stood in for Zimbabwe to answer many questions part of which he argued against protests by rights activists to ban trophy hunting in Zimbabwe.

Meanwhile one of the delegates questioned the criteria for the representation since other regions of Africa appeared to have not been invited.

BELOW WAS A VIDEO ROLL OF THE PROCEEDINGS:

Comedian Mai Titi Bemoans Sex Lecture Video

Rising online comedy sensation Mai Titi (real name Felistas Edwards) on Sunday evening opened up on national radio to host, Tinopona “Tin Tin” Katsande about her leaked video that went viral on social media last year, stating how it had dented her image.

The video shot at a kitchen tea where she was a host, showed Mai Titi demonstrating on another woman, how the bride to be, must make love to her man.

While demonstrating, Mai Titi pleaded with women who had gathered at the event not to take videos as her demonstration was not for public consumption, but alas, some did not listen and shot a video that soon went viral on social media platforms.

Narrating her ordeal during Katsande’s Formation programme on ZiFM Stereo, Mai Titi said a simple demonstration at an otherwise small gathering soon turned into her worst nightmare as people started mocking and judging her simply because the video was now out of context. Her mobile phone became a hotline as people would call inquiring if she had seen the video.

As if that was not enough, Mai Titi who rose to fame last year with her online comedy skits realised the seriousness of the video leak after she started missing out on opportunities she had worked hard for. Chief among them was a Nestle deal.

“I’ll never forget going to the Nestle offices and getting to advanced stages of the deal only for one of the ladies to walk in and ask if I wasn’t the person on the video that was doing the rounds. I said yes and she told me their brand couldn’t be associated with me.

“I was so devastated and I really wanted to cry,” Mai Titi reflected.

On a lighter note, Mai Titi said she was shocked by the number of high profile men who called requesting to meet her to prove if she possessed the skills they had seen on the video.

“You’ll be shocked to know the number of men who called with some even offering $10 000 just to sleep with me.”

Mai Titi, however said the incident had made her stronger. The conversation had been initiated by Tin Tin who also spoke on her leaked sex tape saying people should desist from recording such acts because no one has control over technology.

“My advice is just don’t record the sex! And if you do, just delete it. It’s not your partner you don’t trust — it’s technology. You never know where things end up with technology,” said Tin Tin.- state media

Mupfumira Humiliation As Germany Holds Back 21 Tourism Officials Passports For Non Payment

Twenty one players in the tourism industry recently had their passports withheld by the German embassy in Harare after the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority failed to pay $47 000 to a tourism organiser based in Berlin.

Government, ZTA officials and other tourism players are expected to attend the ITB Berlin (Internationale Tourismus-Börse Berlin) that will run from 7-12 March. The officials are led by Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry Prisca Mupfumira. ZTA chief executive officer, Mr Karikoga Kaseke, said the passports were withheld after the authority failed the organisers.

“It is true that passports belonging to 21 tourism operators were withheld by the German Embassy. This was done because we had delayed in paying the organisers of the ITB expo and they in turn had asked their embassy in Zimbabwe to withhold the passports until we paid.

“The operators only got their passports on Thursday last week after we paid,” Mr Kaseke said.

He said ZTA was facing financial problems as Government has not released funds to capacitate its programmes. Mr Kaseke said the prevailing challenges have seen ZTA failing to pay some of its employees on time.

“The ZTA failed to pay on time because the Government has not released funds to us although we submitted our budget for the year,” he said.

“This is despite the fact that there’s an agreement between us and the Finance Ministry on certain events that we must attend. They funded us for these shows last year. Honestly speaking we’re taken aback by these delays.”

Mr Kaseke said ZTA has engaged Vice President General Constantino Chiwenga (Retired) who promised to engage relevant authorities over their financial shortcomings.

He said the ZTA was being hamstrung in its efforts to fulfil its mandate of selling destination Zimbabwe due delays in allocation of funds. The ZTA has already attended the Fitur exhibition in Spain before the Meetings Africa expo in South Africa while another expo has just kicked off in London and all have been serviced by the ZTA without funding from Government.- state media

ZAPU Stands With Matebeleand Chiefs On Ndebele King

Media Statement

Zimbabwe African Peoples Union wishes to congratulate the Chiefs of Matebeleland for heeding the call to unite and stand firm with their people on the issue of the coronation of Crown Prince Bulelani Khumalo.

The unity of purpose displayed by the Chiefs in the face of a paranoid repressive regime blocking the event over the weekend was demonstration of astute and resolute leadership.

ZAPU, as believers in peoples power stand firm behind the Matebeleland Chiefs and are supportive of their brave stance against the repressive Zimbabwean establishment that is prepared to disregard the constitution and international statutes on human rights in order to push a hegemonic system that violates rights of citizens.

Failure to interpret the law and constitution leading to the weird High Court provisional order over the matter is testimony that the ZANU PF system is so hell bent on perpetuating it’s evil on the people even in areas the constitution seeks to protect them.

It is constitutionally provided that a people can practice their culture without hindrance and interference of any sought. It is also constitutionally provided that a traditional leader of a peoples choice can preside over their traditional and cultural affairs.

The courts decision around this matter, after the monumental failure to read the constitution and law not only smacks of hypocrisy, but as insulting arrogance to everything legal and constitutional by a regime whose existence is a result of a military coup which is not provided for in the Zimbabwean constitution.

How the country’s courts endorsed the November coup and deny coronation of a Ndebele Crown Prince beats the legal mind, especially considering the constitutionality around the Ndebele monarchy and it’s historical connotations.

The involvement of ZANU PF in this matter, together with assigning Fortune Charumbira to interfere in this matter is not only off the point but deliberate ploy to delay the revival of the Ndebele culture and traditions.

ZANU PF and Charumbira are not at all versed about the Ndebele culture, so how do they seek to preside over what they are not aware of? They have never known a King throughout their inflated history.

ZAPU knows fully well that had ZANU PF and Charumbira had a King in their history, by now that monarchy would have been restored. They however can never respond positively to the Ndebele Crown since it’s not part of their culture.

ZAPU also notes with sadness the involvement of one of the Khumalo clan members, Peter Zwide Khumalo who filed in the same courts of Zimbabwe challenging the coronation. The fact that his unveiling went on unhindered is testimony that he has become the hand of the evil system that has oppressed and suppressed the Ndebele nation since it’s fall 1893.

The mother party fully supports the resolution by the Matebeleland Chiefs to remain resolutely united until the King is coronated.

We support the legal and constitutional route they have announced, and any other that is meant to facilitate realization of full rights of all citizens without prejudice.

Mugabe A Threat To The New Dispensation

BY DR MASIMBA MAVAZA
Nature abhors a vacuum, and opposition has become a giant vacuum machine, sucking the air out of opposition politics and leaving the government to roam the centre ground at will. One obvious consequence is that ZANU PF is not being constantly challenged and made to justify their decisions at such a crucial time for the future of Zimbabwe. MDC is engaged in fierce position fighting, blood is literally gashing out and their powers are directed against each other. The good thing is that MDC T has taken all the opposition in an Alliance and the internal fight has sucked in the whole opposition.
Another consequence is that it sows discord in ZANU PF because it is not forced to unite against an effective opposition. OPPOSITION’S weakness leaves the airwaves clear for ZANU PF as the only party with a clear alternative to the nation, and the MPs will emerge as the unelected, de facto opposition.
The painful thing is that in this situation ZANU PF is now busy chasing its own shadow. The party is now overburdened with fake news and fake intelligence where people start a spirited witch hunt. Those who had always harboured their grudges have found a reason to point a finger to others and call them G40 and even creating a new party. Any person who visits the former president is labelled as forming a new party. It is this paranoia which gives the cabal strength. There is no tangible evidence that Mugabe is active on the ground. He is a bitter man yes because he was removed when he did not want to be removed. But does he have the power to destabilise the party.
The irony of the whole issue is that those fearing Mugabe’s party are those who were his obedient sons. The idea of Mugabe forming a party is laughable and the tragedy is those who are supposed to be strong are spreading the fear of Mugabe. It is true that Mugabe was the face of ZANU PF but he has fought his fight and he needs to be allowed to rest. The people who are real threats to ZANU PF are those peddling the lies of a new party being formed.
Grace Mugabe was the cause for the fall of Mugabe and indeed she was powered by Jonathan Moyo and Kasukuwere with Chombo and some few other guys around, for them to form a party and command multitudes is a dream which, however, looks unattainable in the near future and could stay that way for years if Momentum consolidates its hold by deselecting moderate MPs or forcing them to abandon the party. At some point the moderates will have to stand and fight, and join the party in large numbers. But as in the 2008s, it will probably require a resounding general election defeat to make ZANU PF come to its senses, root out Momentum and retake the territory that it so successfully occupied.
Our democracy was born out of opposition, opposition to the power of the ruling. Government was exercised by both sides, by the party in power together with the loyal opposition. It is the duty of an opposition to do its best to see that the actions of the government are in the best interests of the country, not simply the party. In that spirit there is nothing wrong to have an opposition, but there is a big problem to create one and name drop those you seek to punish. The word in the air is that there is a party formed and that word is not true. The problem is if a lie is said several times it will look like its true. It is a wonder haw Jonathan Moyo can shake the pillars of the party through twitter. He is creating a fear of the unknown and there are those gullible to his hogwash and causing distress to others.
The opposition’s job is to improve legislation by forcing the government to explain itself more clearly, to consider the consequences of its enactments, and also to expose the role of vested interests and conflicts of interest. The opposition has to be content to oppose until such time as it may find itself in office, when it can expect to be opposed in its turn. An opposition that spends its entire time and resources on dreaming and scheming how to win the next election is worse than useless. A government that does not have to answer the hard questions of the opposition will take what is open to it, that is, the line of least resistance. The problem Zimbabwe is having is that the party in power is fighting itself, the opposition is fighting itself, and we are indeed doomed.
Opposition is gone. Zimbabwe needs a new political party to speak for its deep tolerance and decency. That would be so good. Perhaps we’re all a bit jaded. Maybe we all need new political parties. But this party is not an offshoot of ZANU PF. If only one can understand that the crowds which graced the interface were forced crowds then you will know no party can be formed by the cabal which can be a threat to the incumbent.

The rumour of a new party has forced ZANU PF retreats on several of their most progressive policies and wasting time on the owl with no horns. But, in the face of a party that operates a majority approach when it comes to votes, defeating them policies is a difficult task. So no new party can be formed now and challenge ZANU PF in few months to come. It is important for ZANU PF to concentrate on campaign and let MDC exercise their right to violence as long as they don’t touch the populace. Creating a pretend party is counterproductive. Creating an imaginary split is chasing shadows and total hallucination.

But opposition doesn’t just happen within the four walls of Parliament, nor is it a matter only for politicians. That’s where Momentum comes in. Momentum evolved out of Mugabe when he allowed his wife to rule from the back ground that was not a grassroots network to empower people to build a movement that can get her elected on a transformative platform. Instead it made her unpopular and her handlers destroyed her instead of building her.
Our activists are on the front line of fighting opposition in communities’ violence, and spreading a message of peace. The youth are introducing ED to the populace and it is going well. Now the destructive force is the one which talks about an imaginary party which is a Joke Of the year. In addition to campaigning they are also providing real support to those who are in need and preparing the nation for a great change. By filling the void created by the cabal and providing real solidarity in communities across the country, Momentum activists and local leadership are putting our unity politics into practice, while exposing the vandalism of this heartless cabal and the opposition at large.
Momentum are also organising cultural events to open up political discussion in communities where many have felt disengaged with politics and ignored by the party. A series of events called Take Back Control, which brings together Leave and Remain voters in communities including the youth and the old for a day of discussion, music, food and sport that will question what it would really mean to take back control from the economic elite, must be put on the calendar.
So, while defeating the disjointed opposition is guaranteed, ZANU PF has the people power to mount the momentous country-wide votes needed to keep us in government.
The opposition is toothless at the moment. MDC T, as a party, as opposition, is in far worse condition now than it was in, Tsvangirai’s time. In that era, it was still hanging together as an opposition, still doing the job. Now it isn’t.
The very reasonable people on the ZANU PF benches need to speak out more THE LANGUAGE OF UNITY AND NOT LANGUAGE OF DIVISION. We ought to hear more from them, saying, “We’re still here. Mugabe doesn’t represent the party, we represent the party.” And working out ideas – I see nobody doing that. They’re too quiet. They’re not fighting the fight. They’re not speaking out. They are just attacking each other.
Some of them are worried about their own seats; some of them find their job congenial. It’s very much easier to be a parliamentarian asking questions at appropriate times and speaking during debates than it is taking your case to the country. They should be fighting. They should be working on ideas.
I think the idea of the split is wrong those fired from the party must never make us lose sleep.

We don’t have an effective opposition. The question is how to take advantage of this situation and make ZANU PF strong. I think ZANU PF should start to discuss with a view TO STRENGTHEN THE PARTY. It’s just got to stop for a moment, have a pause on personalities. They’re going to have to return to personalities, they have to have a new THINKING not the old gossiping culture. But at the moment, the issue should be: let’s get the policies right. I’m sure there are areas in which people want to see changes, but they’re obviously completely incoherent over Mugabe, so just let that incoherence lie.
If ZANU PF can’t start to talk about why young people were attracted to the opposition, they won’t find the solution. Mugabe– you can trash him like the right-wing press do every day, I am not defending him, I don’t think he is the right person to be leader of any party he is 94. All I am saying is ZANU PF have got to widen their base, and they’ve got to widen it in an election. That doesn’t stop the party having more values. The party instinctively, like the country, needs to move a bit more to the left. I’m not afraid of talking more about socialism and social values. I think that would be matching the mood of the country. I believe there is a mood in the country that wants a difference. They don’t want recycled Mugabeirism. The party must switch on and move on.
You’ve just got to face up to reality. The fundamental thing is, where we slipped up in election, is that we were not able to answer the question about any solution to our economy.
It seems to me all great movements begin with language. “Liberty, equality, fraternity”. “All men are created equal and independent . . . from that equal creation they derive rights inherent and inalienable, among which are the preservation of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness”
Mugabe is not a natural opposition politician. So he should not worry any reasonable person. He is no longer in politics to change the world
We all need an “official” opposition. It saves us thinking for ourselves. We need a drawer into which we can shove the “yes, buts”, the “surely nots”, the boos, the heckles and the cries of “nonsense”. We need someone else to speak truth to power. If not, we feel a strange burden on our shoulders, the emptiness makes us fight ourselves.

The most pressing political issue at present is how to win the coming elections with maximum benefit and minimum damage to the economy and social cohesion.

We must always remember that Opposition is meaningless if it only opposes. It has to offer something better. If the current political landscape looks like a teenage dystopian fantasy, well, the exit from Dystopia lies along Utopia Road. I hear a great deal about what is wrong. I hear very little about what a better society – a good society – might look like.
No, of course our democracy is not in crisis just because one of the main political parties is in a parlous state. But ignorance is when we fight ourselves and let the opposition recover. We are a rich and stable country with a pretty big consensus about the broad outlines of our society none of that is going to change if MDC T disappears down the plughole. But if we create an enemy within ourselves then we are destroying the fabric which united us all along.
So we need to open our eyes and March on the country is ours as ZANU PF to rule.

Mawarire Accept Elections Will NOT Be Free, It is A “Process” – Rubbish, If ED Fail To Implement Reforms Get Someone Competent

By Wilbert Mukori| Pastor Mawarire tells France24 restoring basic freedoms and human rights “is a process that cannot be accomplished in one election.”

Zimbabwe is in this political and economic mess because of 38 years of gross mismanagement and rampant corruption by Zanu PF. The ruling elite have profited from the misrule at the expense of the majority as the national economy suffered total meltdown. The people could not remove the corrupt and incompetent Zanu PF thugs from power because they rig elections. The nation has been stuck with this corrupt and tyrannical de facto one-party dictatorship for 38 years.

indepth…Wilbert Mukori

The primary focus of the nation’s political activity for the last 20 years, at least, was to ensure there was democratic change and thus end the Zanu PF dictatorship. Zimbabwe’s tragedy is that the struggle has often been championed by individuals like Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends who have failed to deliver the changes even when they had the golden opportunity to do so.

It is a matter of historic record that MDC leaders had the golden opportunity to implement the democratic reforms which would have ended the Zanu PF dictatorship during the GNU. They failed to get even one reform implemented in five years. Not one!

It is clear that Pastor Mawarire has no clue what the GNU was about; what the democratic reforms are about or why they are important. If he did, then he would know that by implementing the reforms would restore the individual freedoms and human rights including the right to a free, fair and credible elections and the right to life eroded away by the dictatorship.

So, you either implement the democratic reforms to ensure free, fair and credible elections or you do not and the elections are not free, fair and credible; there is no half-way house. This is an event and not a process!

But, of course, if the people of Zimbabwe will accept elections in which President Mnangagwa retains some or even all his carte blanche powers to rig elections the regime will certainly do that. In fact that is exactly what the regime is aiming to do; hold the elections with not even one democratic reforms in place confident that many Zimbabweans like Mawarire will vote for regime regardless.

Zanu PF leaders like Professor Jonathan Moyo and even President Mnangagwa himself have admitted that they will not implement the reforms “and reform themselves out of

office”. Who would! If the electorate are foolish enough that they will do so then this is one process that the ruling elite will want stretched out to the end of time!

No, the coming elections must be free, fair and credible; that is not negotiable. Zimbabweans have been denied this fundamental right by the white colonial regimes and now by this Zanu PF regime; they must not be disappointed ever again.

If Zanu PF fails to implement all the democratic reforms necessary for free and fair election, then the process must be declared null and void. The nation, with the help of SADC, UN, etc., must appoint a transitional government that will be tasked to implement the reforms and hold the country’s first free, fair and credible elections.

The last thing Zimbabweans want is find themselves stuck with a corrupt and tyrannical regime unable to remove it from office because it rigs the vote. – zsdemocrats.blogspot.co.uk

Kaizer Chiefs Coach Says He Has No Regrets For Leaving Zim Defender Out Of Soweto Derby

Kaizer Chiefs Coach Say

Terrence Mawawa

Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela has
downplayed the idea that Teenage Hadebe’s
absence in Saturday’ s Soweto Derby
against Orlando Pirates led to his team’ s humiliating defeat.

Hadebe was left out of the squad that lost 3-1 to Pirates because
he failed a late fitness test. He suffered a knock on
his ankle against Cape Town City three weeks ago.

According to KickOff.com , a South African football
website, Komphela argued Hadebe’ s absence was not the reason for the the team’s loss.

“I wouldn’t say [Hadebe’s absence was felt]. If you
look at how the first goal came about, and you want
to factor Hadebe in there, you would say, ‘But it’s
one of those mistakes possible in any match’,”
argued Komphela.

“The second goal at the beginning of the second half
– I don’t remember if we touched the ball or not –
how would you factor Hadebe in there?
“In eight seconds they hit the back of the net.

It can only be
said by pessimists.”

Mugabe Refuses To Go Away

ZANU PF is not taking lightly the threat posed by its former leader, Robert Mugabe, who has refused to retire quietly following his forced resignation last November.

Mugabe has been taking pot-shots at President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government, saying its rise to power was through a “coup”. He has since taken his message to the African Union (AU) and the Southern African Development Community (Sadc).

But seeing that there is inaction from both the AU and Sadc, he has lately been using his private residence in Borrowdale, Harare to agitate resistance against Zanu PF at the polls.

In a statement issued yesterday, Zanu PF spokesperson Simon Khaya-Moyo said the ruling party has noted with grave concern attempts by certain elements of the society, including some political parties and the media, to impugn the legitimacy of the presidency of Mnangagwa on the “false premise” that his ascendancy to the highest office was a consequence of a military coup.

“The party is also aware of some related utterances associated with the former provincial affairs minister Ambrose Mutinhiri’s resignation from the party. It is abundantly clear that the notion is grossly misplaced and is a mere cheap profiling by individuals with the agenda to secure political relevance,” said Khaya-Moyo.

Asked if Zanu PF was worried by the new political outfit’s association with Mugabe, he said “I have no evidence to that effect, I have not spoken to him and I don’t want to think for him because he is a seasoned politician”.

Khaya-Moyo said one of the reasons why Mutinhiri could have decided to lead the new party was that he lost his ministerial post when Mnangagwa came to power.

The Zanu PF Youth League told the Daily News yesterday that Mugabe should come out in the open and stop using proxies such as the New Patriotic Front to re-launch himself politically.

“As the youth league, we view this as child play and we are ready for them. To us, it’s a bunch of failures trying to come back into politics, but that they are failures is their problem not ours. What Mugabe should know is … we respect him only if he respects us,” said Zanu PF politburo member and leader of the ruling party’s youth wing, Pupurai Togarepi.

“If he decides to rock the boat and then his actions affect the stability of the party … he should be ready for the storm to come… we will not be soft with him,” said Togarepi.
The Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA) yesterday said they were ready to strip Mugabe of the multiple farms he grabbed at the height of the land reform programme they spearheaded.

Znlwva secretary-general Victor Matemadanda, who is also a member of the influential Zanu PF politburo, said Mugabe risks everything.

“The old man is being misguided. Remember he walked away when he did not deserve to walk away a free man. While he was starring at an impeachment, he agreed to resign and avoided embarrassment; he was supposed to be sentenced to prison but the people of Zimbabwe forgave him but now we are seeing that he does not have a culture of appreciation…

“He forgets that during his 37-year rule he took the people … for granted, and now he wants to destabilise the country. The question now is; when are we going to withdraw the pension that was offered to him? He cannot continue having it both ways.

“He is the person who brought the policy — one family one farm — yet he has over 14 farms and he must lose those, and we are ready to take them as war veterans…” said Matemadanda.

University of Zimbabwe political science lecturer Eldred Masunungure said now that Mugabe has proved to be angling to form his own party — he will “taste the bitter medicine” he used to give to opposition parties when he was still the boss.

“This could be interpreted as a national threat, there is also the issue of regional stability, but I doubt that he will get support from the region. What is now likely to happen is that the new administration will pounce on him because internally he is a threat.

“His projects will be targeted more than those of the opposition and he is going to taste the same bitter medicine he was giving to the MDC and other opposition parties a few years ago,” said Masunungure.

“We thought that the reconfigurations had ended with events of November 2017 but they are some elements who refuse to disappear from the political space, this group, that includes Mugabe is refusing to die, I cannot rule out the possibility of the former gamatox and G40 officials who are still in Zanu PF resigning,” said Masunungure. Khupe To Blame For Intra-party Violence- Political Analyst

Buddies, Thokozani Khuphe and Abednico Bhebhe, not ready to talk to Chamisa

Terrence Mawawa

A social media analyst, Antony Taruvinga has launched a scathing attack on embattled MDC Vice President Thokozani Khupe, claiming she is to blame for the intra-party battles rocking the movement.

Below is a statement written by Taruvinga:
KHUPE is the chief perpetrator of violence and
divisions within the MDC-T.

She has always pretended to be
the victim to gain public sympathy when in actual fact she is the
troublemaker.

She joined politics for selfish reasons and has
amassed untold amounts of money using the name of the Movement for
Democratic Change.

It is very unfortunate that Dr.
Morgan Tsvangirai passed on without putting to an
end the Khupe problem.

Yesterday, she clearly stated that she did not
recognise Nelson Chamisa as the president of the party.

She went on to say she was in charge of the party,
in the process lying about the Constitution.

Zanu PF is
good at manipulating such blunt characters as long
their goal of weakening the opposition is realised.

They don’t care about giving you the money as long
the job is done.
The violence that occurred in Bulawayo yesterday
was state sponsored.

The worst is
coming if the leadership does not take swift action to rectify
the matter.

‘MDC To Blame For Rot In Urban Councils

  • Nelson Chamisa

Terrence Mawawa

Political analyst and National People’s Party(NPP) Spokesperson Jeffryson Chitando has pointed out that the country’ s main opposition party, MDC, is to blame for the rampant corruption in local authorities.

Commenting on Facebook yesterday, Chitando said: “ZanuPF failed the nation but we must also ask who
failed urban areas?

Service delivery and roads in
urban areas are in a sorry state while
we have
councils run by the opposition?

The voters will ask for a
justification of re-electing the same.

The councillors bought houses from meagre $60 allowances and how can that be justified? The voters
have every reason to react by voting against such
corrupt leaders. NPP and PRC both
led by Dr Joice Mujuru demand assets declaration before
one assumes public office.”

Chihuri Gone, More Cops Fall

NATIONAL, BUSINESS, BREAKING

The Zimbabwe Republic Police has effected yet more changes in the force, with senior officers in the Police Protection Unit (PPU) — who were providing security to the Mugabes — being redeployed. This was revealed last week in a police radio announcement.

PPU — comprising five sections namely Parliament, relief, diplomats, escorts, and State House — specialises in providing security to VVIPs, VIPs and members of the diplomatic corps. The latest changes mainly affected the State House section and those who were assigned at deposed Robert Mugabe’s private residence.

The radio message read: “The . . . transfers have been approved and are to be implemented immediately.” “Please submit casualty returns as soon as transfers are effected.”

The changes affected senior officers who had been providing close security to the Mugabes — PPU Commissioner Olga Bungu, who has moved to Police General Headquarters (PGHQ) as Commissioner for Economic Surveillance.

Economic Surveillance did not have a commissioner before, so this is a new post created.

Senior Assistant Commissioner Martin Kwainona, who was Mugabe’s aide, has been moved from PPU and posted to PGHQ to the Economic Surveillance section.

Assistant Commissioner Vincent Mariga has also been moved from PPU to Depot as Assistant Commissioner in charge of administration.

The cleansing ceremony also hit the traffic section of the police with Assistant Commissioner Ngonidzashe Chogugudza being moved from national traffic to Midlands as Assistant Commissioner in charge of operations.

Assistant Commissioner Crispen Chihwehwete in charge of Transport at PGHQ has been transferred to Midlands as Assistant Commissioner crime.

Commissioner Rabson Mpofu has been moved from Planning and Development to becoming the chief of staff in the office of the commissioner general.

Mpofu has helped the organisation in the drafting of policy and his move is seen as strengthening the office of commissioner-general Godwin Matanga.

Senior Assistant Commissioner Elliot Mind Ngirandi has been moved from Police Staff College to Planning and Development as Chief Staff Officer.

Insiders canvassed by the Daily News yesterday said the PPU changes were symptoms of the mistrust and suspicions that have become deep rooted due to the police’s stance at the height of infighting in Zanu PF before the military intervention.

During the twilight of Mugabe’s reign, intense infighting over who should succeed him saw Mnangagwa tightening his security following suspicions that his rivals may have been out to eliminate him physically in the wake of his alleged poisoning.

A long-time aide of Mugabe turned arch rival, Mnangagwa was allegedly poisoned in August 2017 at a Zanu PF youth interface “meeting” in Gwanda, resulting in him being airlifted to South Africa after brief treatment in Gweru, which was meant to stabilise his condition.

Alarm was raised after the doctor who attended to him in South Africa disclosed the extent of the damage that was caused by the alleged poisoning.

Since then, Mnangagwa has been seen in public with the military providing his close security — in addition to personnel assigned by the police and the Central Intelligence Organisation.
“This is mainly inspires by the fact that ED prefers the soldiers so those who were at the PPU first family have been reassigned,” said an insider.

“The involvement of the army is yet another demonstration that the president or his family now has little faith in the usual security.” Daily News

Cops Take Action On MDC Violence Suspects Arrested

Lionel Saungweme | Police in Bulawayo have arrested four Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) members suspected of masterminding violence that rocked the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) offices on Sunday 4 March 2018.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Law and Order Department arrested 20 MDC-T activists among them Bulawayo Deputy Mayor, Gift Banda, MDC-T National Youth National Secretary for Elections, Kunashe Muchemwa, Bulawayo Provincial Youth Chairman, Mlandu Ncube, business tycoon, Felix Mhaka, Donald Mabutho, Eric Gono, Michael Mabasa, Sibongubuhle Sibanda, Edith Moyo, Takunda Madzana, Robson Tera, Garikai Mugova, Samukeliso Maseko and Raymond Gombedza. The activists are charged with contravening Sec 36 (1) of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act (public violence).

“My clients are the actual victims of violence. They are innocent,” said lawyer Bruce Masamvu of Dube-Tachiona and Tsvangirai Legal Practitioners, who is representing all accused persons. Masamvu was accompanied by Emmanuel Mlalazi of Dube-Banda, Nzarayapenga and Legal Practioners.

The accused were fingerprinted before signing warned and cautioned statements. Police have not indicated whether the accused will be released. However, it is not known whe the accused will be brought court as police investigations are continuing. It is also not known how many witnesses MDC-T National Organising Secretary, Abednigo Bhebhe will enjoin to his case. The violence saw 15 party activists injured, two luxury vehicles damaged and party offices vandalised.

The violence, according to sources allegedly started when MDC-T Vice President Thokozani Khupe’s supporters gate-crushed a 4 March 2018 Provincial Elections Directorate meeting at the party offices in Bulawayo.

However, MDC-T National Organising Secretary, Abednigo Bhebhe states that, “As you are aware that there is a misunderstanding within the party hierarchy, we had called the structures to come and discuss….”

Bhebhe alleged that “in the middle of the meeting we started hearing stones coming through the durawall.”
However, Bulawayo Provincial Spokesperson, Felix Mafa, who is accused of backing MDC-T Acting President Nelson Chamisa disagrees.

“Stones were hurled at delegates attending the elections directorate meeting. After they threw stones, they then seized the party offices,” he said.
In the ensuing skirmishes Khupe’s driver, Witness Dube was assaulted. Two luxury vehicles belonging to Khupe and a South African-based Zimbabwean business Chief Zidlekhaya Ndlovu were extensively damaged.

Ward 16 Chairman Malusi Fuyana sustained 27 stitches and is detained at Mpilo Central Hospital. A total of 14 individuals were also injured in the violence.

2018 ELECTION: Mnangagwa Promises Churches Free Land

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has promised to dish out free land to churches in a move likely to be seen as a tactic to sway the electorate ahead of the forthcoming general elections.

Traditionally, Zanu PF — even during deposed Robert Mugabe’s time — has appealed to churches during election season.

Mnangagwa made the promise after church leaders demanded free residential and church stands at a meeting held in Harare yesterday, with the leader of the Apostolic Christian Council of Zimbabwe Johannes Ndanga leading the call.

Likening Mnangagwa to the Biblical Joshua who led the Israelites to the land of Canaan from Egypt after taking over from Moses, Ndanga said Mnangagwa’s administration should give free land to domestic churches as the white colonial governments did to missionary churches before independence. Tsvangirai Honour As Road Is Named After Him

Harare councillors have proposed to name one of the streets in the CBD after the late opposition MDC founding leader Morgan Tsvangirai.

Tsvangirai — who died last month aged 65 after a long battle with colon cancer — is credited for changing the face of Zimbabwean politics after winning against deposed long-ruling Robert Mugabe in the 2008 elections.

During a full council meeting last week Friday, Rugare councillor Peter Moyo said council must honour Tsvangirai, who was denied national hero status, despite massive calls by public.
“Before we start the business of the day, let me state that I think the city should honour the late Tsvangirai by naming a road after him.

“We cannot ignore the fact that Tsvangirai has contributed immensely to the development and democracy of Zimbabwe,” Moyo said. He added that the late opposition leader’s contribution to the improvement of the lives of Zimbabweans could not be left unnoticed.

Greendale councillor Stewart Mutizwa seconded the motion, which was later said to be addressed by the MDC-run council formally.

The proposal comes as councillors have argued that road naming should be left to local authorities after the unofficial naming of the civic centre adjacent to the Harare Magistrates Courts, which most MDC supporters call the Freedom Square while others refer to it as the Robert Mugabe Square.

Glen Norah councillor Herbert Gomba has argued that public places should not be named after little-known politicians.

“The civic centre is called so many names that we do not know what to call it. Can we be weary of naming our streets and spaces after fly-by-night politicians?

“We need to lead by example and show some semblance of order in the way we do our things.
“We cannot have people who are not elected councillors bulldozing the names of areas for us. Let us not name streets after people who are popular for a season,” he said. Daily News

Mugabe Opposition Party Releases Classy Regalia

By Paul Nyathi |The newly established opposition National Patriotic Party brain child of former President Robert Mugabe has unveiled classy regalia to be distributed to its members in the run up to the 2018 harmonised elections set for later this year.

The regalia has attracted huge attention from social media users some who claim to be attracted to the stylish t-shirts and shirts.

The regalia shows that the new party could be well funded as it is of a very high quality compared to what other parties have been producing over the years.

ZimEye.com efforts to get a comment from party spokesperson Jealous Mawarire on the source of the regalia failed.

More Government Millions Down The Drain, New Bridge Faces Imminent Collapse

Mabvuku Bridge under construction three years ago.

Fears have been raised over the extensive soil erosion on the slopes of the Mabvuku road over rail bridge, with indications that if not urgently attended to, the bridge could expose motorists to serious hazards.

Less than a year after the bridge was commissioned, there are already signs of sub-standard workmanship on this project as huge gullies caused by run-off now occupy the better part of this bridge.

Local engineers from the road authority who were on the ground refused to comment on the matter, referring the subject to the department of roads which is said to have been responsible for this part of the road.

However, they agreed that the level of damage on the bridge poses a serious risk which can eventually lead to damage of the road if not addressed urgently.

During a site visit by the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Transport and Infrastructural Development, the committee raised the red flag on the hazard, calling for the responsible authority to move in with speed and avert the potential danger.

The road hosts a number of vehicles every second of the day, but not many motorists are aware of the cancer that is slowly tearing into a surface which they perceive to be the safest part of this highway when compared to other trunk roads that are littered with potholes

Bullet Train A Phenomenon ZANU PF Looters Can Never Understand

Discent Collins Bajila is the MDC Youth Secretary General

I wouldn’t expect snow grader buyers and their automobile massage machine counterparts to engage constructively on the issue of bullet trains.

It’s just not gonna happen.

The idea of a fast train moving between Zimbabwe’s largest cities to ease traffic congestion on the highways is noble but gets lost over the question of what time it can possibly take.

I would have been comfortable with the debate if it had been just a dispute on the issue of time taken. That’s a healthy debate.

To insinuate that we do not need a fast moving commercial mode of transport between Bulawayo and Harare is plain idiocy.

If we have such a service, the delivery of goods and services and the movement of people will be faster. This is important in business.

Our roads will also be decongested and therefore safer.

We know that NRZ was allowed to die under the watch of the junta when Rtd Air Commodore Mike Karakadzai was at the helm. We also know that NRZ was killed so that private haulage truck businesses like Maminza and Sabot could get a market for bulk transportation and therefore grow. We know who owns Sabot and Maminza companies.

Bhebhe, “Chamisa Behaving Like Gukurahundi, Won’t Talk To Him.”

Buddies, Thokozani Khuphe and Abednico Bhebhe, not ready to talk to Chamisa

By Paul Nyathi

Want out MDC-T National Organising Secretary Abednico Bhebhe has described the new party President Nelson Chamisa’s behaviour as that of the 1980s ZANU PF initiated Gukurahundi mass murderers.

Speaking on VOA Studio Seven’s Livetalk program on Monday evening, Bhebhe said that he is not prepared to engage in any talks with Chamisa who sends people to attack party leaders from Matabeleland then invite them for negotiations.

Bhebhe said that the last time he saw a similar behaviour was during the ZANU PF led Gukurahundi era where twenty thousand people were killed by the soldiers before the perpetrators invited the victims into truce negotiations.

“We can not talk to people who behave like the Gukurahundi which butchered 20 000 people then invited for negotiations to end the killings,” said Bhebhe.

“The very same people who are calling us for negotiations are the same ones that are sending thugs to beat us up as Matabeleland people and expect us to negotiate with them to stop beating us,” fumed Bhebhe.

The outspoken MDC-T senior official was referring to a weekend incident where the party supporters were involved in a bloody battle at the party offices in Bulawayo.

Bhebhe is adamant that the people who attacked them while they were in a meeting at the offices were dispatched from Harare to attack them.

On the other hand rival members claim that Bhebhe hired the thugs from South Africa to come and attack them in a planned move to disgrace new party leader Nelson Chamisa.

The MDC-T has since dispatched a team of investigators to investigate the violence.

MDC-T supporters urge Chamisa To Talk To Khuphe, “for the good of MDC T”

Strange bedfellows Chamisa and Khuphe urged to reconcile

By Paul Nyathi

Concerned MDC-T supporters in the United Kingdom and Ireland have urged the new party leader Nelson Chamisa to talk to beleaguered rival Deputy President Thokozani Khuphe and resolve their differences.

In a media statement produced by the organising department of the UK and Ireland Province on Monday, the party members urged Chamisa to engage in dialogue with Khuphe for the good of the party and the nation.

“The organising department of the province would like to encourage Advocate Chamisa to get into serious dialogue with senior leaders like Dr Khuphe and others to ensure that tbeir concerns are addressed to the best advantage of the entire MDC-T family and the nation,” said the statement.

Chamisa and his co deputy President went into loggerheads on the leadership of the party shortly after the death of party leader Morgan Tsvangirai on Valentine’s day.

Chamisa was eventually endorsed by the party’s National Council as the party President through a process which Khuphe said was uncostitutional.

Khuphe maintains that she is the genuine leader of the party as she was elected by the party congress in 2014. Chamisa has since given her seven days which expires on Thursday to accept his leadership or be dismissed from the party.

Khuphe has since rubbished the ultimatum claiming that it is an illegal process.

The foreign based supporters further urged Chamisa to address issues of intra party violence that are rocking the party as a result of the leadership wrangle.

“We are also asking the party leadership to urgently flex its muscles to put an end to the ugly face of violence which is bedevilling some of our structures.”

The MDC-T has seen continous incidents of violence between Chamisa loyalists and Khuphe loyalists.

The violence went a gear up over the weekend where Bulawayo CBD was turned into a war zone as the party supporters clashed at the party offices in a two hour battle that left fifteen people hospitalised and property worth thousands of dollars damaged.

President Roughed Up In Social Soccer Match, Two Arrested.

A player let’s President Nkuranziza through to score in a soccer social match

TWO Burundi officials have been arrested after their town’s football team allegedly “roughed up” the country’s president.

President Pierre Nkurunziza often features in his own team’s – Haleluya FC – starting line up in games across his country.

Usually, his opposition are fully aware they are playing their president and no player dares to seriously take him on, according to the BBC.

But that was apparently not the case over the weekend during a game against the Northern town of Kiremba’s team.

Kiremba’s administrator Cyriaque Nkezabahizi and his deputy Michel Mutama were accused of recruiting Congolese refugees living in a camp in the town to play in the match who allegedly went hard on the President.

One witness said: “These Congolese obviously didn’t know President Nkurunziza because they roughed him up during the match, attacking each time he had the ball and making him fall several times while the Burundian players were careful not to get too close to him.”

Opposing players who know him usually go easy on the President during games and allow him to score.

The officials were imprisoned after being arrested on charges of “conspiracy against the president.”

The 54-year-old “born-again” evangelical Christian plays up to three matches a week and travels with his own choir – “Komeza gusenga” – which means “pray non-stop” in the local Kirundi language.

Nkurunziza built a 9,000-seat stadium in his home town as well as dozens others across the country.

Lest We Forget, Susan Tsvangirai, “a mother figure for the whole nation.”

In Happier Times Morgan Tsvangirai and Wife Susan.

By Paul Nyathi

Wind back to today in 2009, then Prime Minister now late MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai survived a horrific road accident which however would not spare his wife Susan Nyaradzo nee Mhundwa.

When news of the passing on of Susan was announced, the MDC-T Deputy Spokesperson, Thabitha Khumalo described her “as a mother figure for the whole nation,”  a nation which nine years on shouldn’t allow the day of her passing on to pass unrecognised.

Nine years on, Susan Tsvangirai now lies peacefully next to her husband, Morgan, who passed on three weeks ago. The late MDC-T President was buried right next to Susan at their rural home in Humanikwa Village, Buhera.

Susan Tsvangirai was killed in a collision accident on the Harare-Masvingo Road on 6 March 2009.

Her husband, Morgan, who had been prime minister less than one month at the time of the accident, was injured in the crash.

The couple had been going en route to their home in Buhera, where they had planned to stay the night before attending an MDC-T meeting the following day at Murambinda Business Center, a few kilometres from their home.

They were travelling in a Land Cruiser within a three car convoy when a truck belonging to the US aid agency, the United States Agency for International Aid (USAID) travelling in the opposite direction crossed into their lane and side-swiped their vehicle, causing it to roll over three times.

Morgan said his wife’s death was an accident. The British foreign ministry said the truck was part of an aid project jointly funded by the US and UK and that the crash appeared to be “a genuine accident”.

Susan was born on 24 April 1958.

She was raised in the Gunde area of Buhera District, which is near Dorowa Minerals.

The late Susan Tsvangirai met her future husband, Morgan, in 1976 at the Trojan Nickel Mine in Bindura, Rhodesia, while visiting her uncle.

Morgan, at this time was working as a foreman at the mine.

Morgan reportedly told a friend at the time, “That is the girl I am going to marry!” They married in 1978 and the couple had six children during their marriage, which lasted for 31 years.

Chamisa’s Bullet Train Approved By China

bullet trains in operation

By Tamsanqa W Johnson | MDC leader Nelson Chamisa’s “Bullet Train” concept has proved real after China moved ahead with plans to develop an even faster train, dubbed under the title, “maglev”.

2 months ago, China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC), that country’s largest rail transportation equipment maker, announced that its plans for a 600 km/h magnetic levitation train had been approved.

The train will be capable of making the trip from Shanghai to Beijing in just two hours. The long stretch is 1,207 km long meaning it will accomplish 300km in just 30 minutes.

The MDC’s Acting President, Nelson Chamisa at the weekend announced that once president he will facilitate a train that will take 35 min to reach Bulawayo. Chamisa was mocked by critics who labelled him a sensationalist. They said it is impossible and there is neither technology nor infrastructure at present to handle the demands for such a train.

Convicted fraudster Wicknell Chivayo attacked Chamisa saying his claim was fake. Perhaps Chivayo in his critique was right on the absence of infrastructure to handle the high speed train, but on the possibility of the innovation, he was wrong.

China’s plan, according to the medium.com publication, will involve the first 600 km/h variety which will be ready by the year 2020 for testing along a 5-kilometre track.

A source is quoted saying “in fact, we already know that maglev trains are capable of reaching speeds of 600 km/h plus. In April 2015, Japan broke its own speed record with a maglev that topped out at 603 km/h. However, commercial operation of these trains is still a long way away, with concerns about the infrastructure cost of building lengthy maglev tracks, not to mention safety issues.”

The report continues unrolling that: China is already currently home to the fastest commercial train in the world — the Shanghai Maglev, built with German technology, which takes travelers to the Pudong International Airport. Its top operational speed is 431 km/h.

In 2016, China introduced its first homegrown maglev line in Changsha, transporting passengers from the south railway station to the airport at a not terribly impressive top speed of 100 km/h. Last year, Beijing’s first maglev train, also homegrown, went into trial operation, it also runs at a leisurely 100 km/h.

Of course, this is all a bit less impressive when you remember that another Chinese company announced its intentions last year to build a futuristic “flying train,” capable of hitting a maximum speed of 4,000 km/h, while apparently not being a danger to passengers.

2018 Elections: Opposition Coalition Facing Imminent Collapse

Barbara Nyagomo of PDZ dumping Mangoma

By Paul Nyathi

The opposition Coalition Of Democrats is certainly posed for a collapse as the partners continue to pull out of the Elton Mangoma led coalition.

Founded by Professor Welshman Ncube of the MDC shortly after the 2013 elections, the coalition which at one moment housed nine opposition parties has come down to three.

Barbara Nyagomo’s Progressive Democrats of Zimbabwe is the latest to pull out of the coalition sighting lack of transparency and for being a briefcase movement.

In a notice to the CODE leadership announcing her party’s resignation from the coalition, Nyagomo accused the leader Elton Mangoma for making unilateral decisions in the running of the party and disregarding her own party.

“PDZ is pulling out of CODE because there is lack of transparency and accountability,” said Nyagomo.

“A Principal or principals take unilateral decisions in CODE. CODE has remained a boardroom organization and not visible on the ground,” she said.

Nyagomo who was seconded as the Deputy President of the coalition further indicated that she felt unappreciated as a principal in the coalition.

Nyagomo’s pull out from the coalition follows that of Maxwell Shumba of Zim First party which also pulled out of the coalition a couple of weeks ago.

Founding members, Ncube’s MDC and Tendai Biti’s PDP were the first to dump the coalition to establish the MDC Alliance coalition with the late MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai.

Other members, Gilbert Dzikiti of DARE and Farai Bira of ZUNDE also dumped the coalition to join the Joice Mujuru led People’s Rainbow Coalition.

The departures leave only Mangoma and his Renewal Democrats of Zimbabwe with Simba Makoni’s MKD and Dumiso Dabengwa’s ZAPU.

Dabengwa might not last any longer in the coalition as he is being coerced into the Mujuru led PRC.

Efforts to get a comment from Mangoma were not successful at the time of writing.

ZRP Cops Caught In Bribery, Sex Scandal Storm

Suspended Zimbabwe Immigration workers revealed in Parliament yesterday that three former Zimbabwe Republic Police assistant commissioners now deployed to head Immigration Department were allegedly corrupt, taking bribes and engaged in sexual harassment of female workers.

The three — Givemore Charamba (now director of operations in Immigration), Steven Museki (director administration) and Clemence Masango (principal director) — were described by the workers as “having joined Immigration from the police wearing sun-scorched suits and residing at Chikurubi Police Camp, but now own mansions in the affluent suburbs of Waterfalls, Damofalls and the Grange”.

The workers, who were suspended since 2013 for standing up against the three, had appeared before the Magna Mudyiwa-led Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Public Service, where they told MPs they had resorted to reporting their case to Parliament after then Home Affairs ministers, Kembo Mohadi (now Vice-President), Ignatius Chombo and now Obert Mpofu failed to address it.

“All our efforts to report the corrupt activities by the three came to naught, and before the coming in of Mpofu as Home Affairs minister we sought the help of former First Lady Grace Mugabe through her secretary, but nothing materialised, as we hoped that Grace would take up the matter to former President Robert Mugabe,” Immigration workers’ representative Nkosana Mthunzi narrated to MPs.

“The major stumbling block was Home Affairs secretary Melusi Matshiya, who gets hypnotised by his subordinates, and inferences are that he is very much part of the gravy train,” Mthunzi said.

Serious allegations were levelled against the three to the effect that they were taking up to $10 000 bribes per week to protect illegal immigrants of Pakistani, Nigerian, and Chinese origin. The committee was told that some of the affected foreign nationals were even willing to appear before Parliament to testify.

The three bosses were said to be well-connected to top politicians and whenever their corrupt activities were reported, they just went scot free.

Two females, Sheila Moyo and Emily Mupeti, who also appeared before the committee broke down in tears as they narrated how Museki sexually harassed them, and after they rejected his advances, they were suspended since 2017. There were other serious allegations that two water tanks donated for border posts were instead taken by Museki and mounted at his two houses owned by his two wives.

The committee heard that there were several cases of female workers impregnated by the Immigration bosses, and other bosses fingered for corruption were Admire Makani, Godfrey Kondo, Prosper Kambarami, Francis Mabika and Evans Siziba.- Newsday

Soldier Chases Mnangagwa’s Son Out Of Harare South Constituency

Tongai Mnangagwa, who is reportedly claiming to be President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s son, was last week humiliated and chased away from a meeting of the Zanu PF’s structures in Harare South constituency.

Sources told NewsDay that Tongai intended to use his connection to the First Family to muscle his way and stand as Zanu PF’s candidate in the volatile peri-urban constituency in which Zanu PF has doled out stands as a campaign tool.

“He (Tongai) is claiming to be the President’s son, but he is not. He is a close relative, but we have learnt he uses a different surname. The dropping of the President’s name is supposed to scare his rivals.

“Last week, he stormed a meeting of party structures near [a popular abattoir], but was chased away by angry youth. He initially tried to hold his own meeting to counter the one chaired by provincial chairman, [Goodwills] Masimirembwa, but this was very poorly attended,” an insider said. “He then decided to attend the meeting of structures hoping he might use his name to get a slot to campaign.”

But Masimirembwa, who confirmed chairing a meeting of the Zanu PF structures last week in the area, denied that Tongai was chased away.

“He was not chased away. We held a successful meeting and everything ended well with no skirmishes,” he said.

A retired soldier, Major Leonard Tagwirei, who lost in Zanu PF internal polls ahead of the 2013 elections to former lawmaker, Shadreck Mashayamombe has been ring-fencing the constituency and last month his supporters were reportedly behind the violent disruption of a meeting by another aspirant, Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans’ Association spokesperson, Douglas Mahiya.

Another would be candidate is one Retired Colonel Piki.

“He has been dropping hints that he wants to stand, but has really done nothing to show his intentions,” NewsDay heard.

Tongai was not available for comment, as his mobile went unanswered.

Zanu PF has been struggling to contain its members, who are angling to become MPs ahead of the elections later this year, forcing the ruling party to issue a decree against early campaigning, amid reports some aspiring candidates in Mashonaland Central could be disqualified.

Reports also abound of serving and retired soldiers showing keen interest in representing the party, buoyed by the military intervention in November last year that forced former President Robert Mugabe to resign, paving the way for Mnangagwa.

Chamisa And The Reality Of The Bullet Train

Hon. Chris | Skepticism steeped in sheer Ignorance .

I don’t seem to understand the incredulity spawned by President Nelson Chamisa’s intention to bring a bullet train to our shores. Well is it because he lacks capacity to do it or that he does not have the wherewithal to do it? Well some Zimbabweans are a silly lot who hide behind thin fig leaves of intellectualism. If other countries can have bullet trains what can stop us? Does anyone at all know that there is a the Gau Train in South Africa.

Hon Chamisa once promised that people will get sim cards for free, many took his words at that time with a pinch of salt for. Few years down into his brief as Minister of ICT, bob is your uncle, the sim cards became a dime a dozen and he became the best minister. It goes without saying that people used to sleep in queues to buy a mere sim card, some sold their livestock to buy them.

It look like some of us have gotten used to mediocrity which had become staple during Mugabe’s 37 years of misrule. Consequently they would rather Chamisa promise more donkey carts.

The idiotic arguments with which we are been plied left right and far center from some social media smart alecs with ten idle fingers to type on their contraptions seem to vindicate President Chamisa’s statement earlier that.
“I hope that as we go into the election, you can see the kind of the digital faces you have, against the analogue faces who are already in government, it is going to be an exciting contest, isn’t it?
“It’s a clear contest between the past and the future, the iPad generation versus the mbira generation, and that makes it an exciting election and an election is about choice and we hope that you are going to be able to choose the leadership that you truly deserve.”

We can see individuals who are dead set in ways of the 60s. Motivational speaker and author Milton Kamwendo once wrote that a frog that thinks the pond is world will never reach the sea. However much we try to take some analog minds into the new millennium we can’t seem to take the analog mentality out of their system.

Na Chamisa our children will be having ebooks soon.#daretodream.

Biti Shames Mnangagwa

Kennedy Kaitano | Former Finance Minister, Tendai Biti, must be thanked for making it clear to the Zimbabwean public and the world at large that taking out money in the currency that is in use in that country is not externalising. I am sure that Biti, an intelligent lawyer who is also highly knowledgeable in financial matters will have done his research and analysis well before making the statement, which is likely to leave President Emmerson Mnangagwa with egg on his face.

Apart from the revelation by Biti which seem to have been supported by a few fundis, which President Mnangagwa is yet to respond to, it is strange that President Mnangagwa says the return of $250 million out of an “externalised” $3.1 billion is a forty five percent success rate in terms of value.

What has been our dear President smoking. Take your calculators and calculate properly what percentage $250 million is as a fraction of $3.1 billion and tell me what you will come up with. I was impressed by Amai Mujuru who appeared on video calculating some mathematical problems mentally live, yet Comrade Mnangwagwa had all the time to analyse the data he gave before taking it to the media, and still got it wrong.

Was Comrade President Mnangagwa giving this percentage in self-praise? Or is it because age is catching up with him and he can no longer calculate properly? Whichever of the two positions is correct, Zimbabweans do not deserve such a leader, and the best advice is for him to retire and rest.

Civil servants have been made to retire at 65 years because at that age the mental capacity starts to go down and people can no longer the trusted with large responsibility. Even their bodies will need rest at that point. If they continue to work, they may do so for another ten years, upon which they must retire and spend the rest of their life sharing experiences through publications and telling stories about their lives.

Zimbabweans should never allow another experience where an old man who has lost control leads the country as he is subject to influence by those around him as happened with former President Comrade Robert Mugabe. And it is people like President Mnangagwa who was pushing Mugabe to continue in power at that old age. The country needs a new constitution that will limit the age at which someone can contest for elections to 70 years – five years more that the stipulated retirement of civil servants, so we need a leader who can make that happen. Mnangagwa can certainly not allow such a change as he will be chasing a second term, so Zimbabweans must make sure he loses in the 2018 election.

I strongly appeal to Zimbabweans to vote against people who are old and will sleep on the job.

Assaulted Chamisa Supporters Remain Hospitalised

Chalton Hwende | I am surprised with Obert Mpofu’s comment in the newspapers today. The police by omission aided the Bhebhe group to illegally seize our office using brute force. Our Party workers were brutalized and some are now fighting for their lives in Hospital. They identified the culprits and most of the culprits are still illegally occupying our offices and planning to violently take our Mat South and Mat North Office. When will the police do their constitutional duty and arrests perpetrators of violence?

Mnangagwa’s Lacoste Panics Over Mutinhiri’s Zipra War Record

Julius Sai Mutyambizi-Dewa | “When ex-combatants finally returned to an independent Zimbabwe what made me very proud of my role in the liberation struggle was the non-tribal approach of both ZIPRA and ZANLA. Brigadier Mutinhiri, a Shona led the first ZIPRA forces to return to Zimbabwe and Colonel Sobuza Gula-Ndebele led the first of the former ZANLA forces to return to independent Zimbabwe. This dispelled the long held view that ZAPU and ZIPRA was for Ndebeles and ZANU and ZANLA was for Shonas” these were the words of my late father, my own Chimurenga-hero Cde Gromyko[Leonard Manyewu Mutyambizi]. Whenever he mentioned this, I lost count of the many times he would say it, my father would always show real excitement at the promises that 1980 had brought to our country. The tribal dichotomy and probably, polarization, that seemed to have been silent antithesis of the liberation struggle, and a very dangerous antithesis in post-war Zimbabwe was obviously something that had worried not only him but most right thinking heroes and heroines of the liberation struggle.

I have a lot of, not only respect but admiration for General Ambrose Mutinhiri. He is without any doubt up there with other erstwhile heroes of the liberation struggle and was one of the earliest instructors in Tanzania together with other celebrated fighters such as Parker Chipoyera and also some that were later forgotten in independent Zimbabwe such as Mudhara Marange[better known as “Ndebvu-Six” and later only known as the Superintendent of Chitungwiza Municipal Police and someone who would not even be mentioned in dispatch by his former comrades]. So unlike others who have greeted General Mutinhiri’s entry into politics by trying to attack, hopefully in vain, his flawless liberation credentials, I will not be that petty and dishonourable. The prevalent problem with ZANU PF both before the mutiny and post-mutiny is that it has a lot of people who think someone is a hero as long as they are in ZANU PF once they walk out they are no longer heroes. That troubling ownership of heroes and heroism including the conferment of hero status unfortunately continues to reflect badly on them. On reflection they seem to be confirming that they are indeed a bunch of shameless blackmailers who do not give our liberation struggle the sanctity and esteem it deserves but show an obsessive possessiveness towards it that unfortunately now threatens its credibility. However, having said that, I have a point of departure from Brigadier Mutinhiri.

ALWAYS AN EX-ZIPRA COMBATANT

Brigadier Mutinhiri seems to say that he has left his party ZANU PF now because as an ex-ZIPRA combatant he was unhappy with the events of November and the post-November 2017 dispensation. Brigadier Mutinhiri is not Linda Masarira who in my view has a lot of credibility if she says the same thing. Brigadier Mutinhiri did not become an ex-ZIPRA combatant last week or in November 2017. He was an ex-ZIPRA combatant since 1980. He was an ex-ZIPRA combatant when ZUM was formed at a time when ZAPU and ZANU became one party known as ZANU PF and they governed together. ZUM, Edgar Tekere’s party was subjected to all sorts of violence. I was in Form 3 when some ZANU PF thugs wanted to assault me because I had celebrated a ZUM toy-toying on the streets of Chitungwiza.
Brigadier Mutinhiri was an ex-ZIPRA combatant when Rashiwe Guzha disappeared. He was an ex-ZIPRA combatant when in 1993 ZANU PF thugs attacked a ZUM/UANC rally at Unit D in Chitungwiza at a time when Bishop Abel Muzorewa and Edgar Tekere were co-presidents of what they termed United Parties. When Reverend Ndabaningi Sithole was accused of having formed a military wing for ZANU Ndonga, known as Chimwenje, Brigadier Mutinhiri did not voice any criticism of the government he had become part of although he was an ex-ZIPRA combatant. When landless people who had been settled at Chulu Farm by Reverend Ndabaningi Sithole, Brigadier Mutinhiri was still an ex-ZIPRA combatant but he never voiced any concerns. When a fellow Comrade, Margaret Dongo was being harassed for standing up to the leadership of ZANU PF in 1995 Brigadier Mutinhiri was an ex-ZIPRA combatant. His conscience was not there then.
When Chitungwiza Mayoral Candidate Fidelis Mhashu and his supporters were being subjected to all sorts of violence and intimidation in 1995,1996 and 1997 he was an ex-ZIPRA combatant. When MDC activists were attacked and some of them killed Brigadier Mutinhiri was an ex-ZIPRA combatant. When the late Morgan Tsvangirai was denied the presidency after winning elections in 2008 by the military which intervened on behalf of ZANU PF and President Mugabe against both the constitutional order and the ethos of the liberation struggle, Brigadier Mutinhiri was an ex-ZIPRA combatant although his conscience had departed him to the extent that he never questioned that very illegal move by our military. In fact Brigadier Mutinhiri continued to serve in that government.

When his own ex-wife, Tracey Mutinhiri, was at the receiving end of ZANU PF, Brigadier Mutinhiri was an ex-ZIPRA combatant yet he again saw no problem with what was happening. When Mai Mujuru was pushed out of ZANU PF unconstitutionally Brigadier Mutinhiri was an ex-ZIPRA combatant but his conscience never came out to challenge the emerging modus operandii of ZANU PF. Itai Dzamara disappeared at a time when Brigadier Mutinhiri was an ex-ZIPRA combatant. Dumiso Dabengwa, another ZIPRA supremo, departed ZANU PF to reform ZAPU at a time when Brigadier Mutinhiri was an ex-ZIPRA combatant. Brigadier Mutinhiri never questioned any excesses of President Mugabe. In fact he has sought anointment from him.
If I were to make a choice between the mutineers of November 17, whose intervention was accepted by most Zimbabweans especially as it finally got rid of President Mugabe and his seemingly unending presidency and the return of President Mugabe, I will definitely choose the mutineers. No person who has a conscience and who claims to have respect for Zimbabweans can say President Mugabe’s rule should have continued in perpetuity. By the time he was forced out President Mugabe had become a burden, not only on our shoulders but even on his own shoulders. By the look of things he is happier and healthier in his forced retirement and this is what he should have done probably 20 years ago. Surely 17years in power in 1997 could have been enough but he allowed himself to create a final exit that is no so good for a person of his stature. He clearly has himself to blame. But Brigadier Mutinhiri should save Zimbabweans from his rare kind of selective conscience that has been predominantly absent during most of President Mugabe’s tenure. His Damascus moment, if it is, is way too late. In fact his is a very queer Damascus moment because it’s talking about the injustice against Herod and Pilato; they are his victims and not the persecuted lot. President Mugabe is not a victim of injustices, he is a perpetrator and one cannot reverse that and expect to be accepted as a conscionable person.

Comradely!

Be Judge!

Mnangagwa Appoints Mumbengegwi Civil Service Minister

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has designated the Minister of State for Presidential Affairs and Monitoring Implementation of Government Programmes Simbarashe Mumbengegwi as the minister responsible for the administration of the public service.

In a statement, the chairman of the Public Service Commission (PSC), Mr Mariyawanda Nzuwah, said Minister Mumbengegwi will administer the Public Service Act [16:04] and the Zimbabwe Institute of Public Administration and Management Act [25:17].
“Minister Mumbengegwi has been appointed to administer the public service. Section 201 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment (No.20) Act 2013 provides that ‘the President must appoint a Minister to be responsible for the civil service,’” said Mr Nzuwah.

The appointment of Minister Mumbengegwi comes as a relief to the Apex Council who had written to President Mnangagwa expressing concern over the lack of effective communication between Government and its workers following the movement of the civil service to the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC).

The civil service used to be under the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare.
It has since been reconfigured to the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare and the civil service now falls under the OPC.

Zimbabwe Teachers’ Association (Zimta) president Mr Richard Gundane yesterday said they had not received formal communication from the Government.

“We have not officially received the information but this would be a good move because we had raised the issue with the Government. We emphasised the importance of constant and formal communication between Government and its workers.
“Since the removal of the civil service from the Public Service Ministry, we were having a challenge in terms of where we have to go to get answers for our questions and concerns,” said Mr Gundane.
He said this had presented complications due to lack of dialogue between the civil servants and Government, adding that the term of office for the National Joint Negotiating Council (NJNC) for negotiators had also come to an end.

Apex Council president Mrs Cecilia Alexander recently said they had written to the Government calling for the appointment of a minister who will administer the civil service following its movement to the OPC. – state media

Mutinhiri In – G40 Splits Over NPF?

Several Zanu-PF legislators yesterday distanced themselves from the newly formed New Patriotic Front launched by disgruntled members of the G40 cabal whose leader Retired Brigadier General Ambrose Mutinhiri met former president Robert Mugabe at his Borrowdale residence in Harare last week to discuss the morphing of the cabal into a political outfit.

This came as the NPF yesterday confirmed meeting the former President at his Blue Roof mansion on Thursday last week where Rtd Brig Gen Mutinhiri was anointed as the NPF’s interim leader.
The NPF confirmed the meeting through its nomadic spokesperson Mr Jealousy Mawarire.
Rtd Brig Gen Mutinhiri, the NPF said, was its presidential candidate in the forthcoming elections.
In the meeting, Mr Mawarire said Mr Mugabe told Mutinhiri to rope in youths in the project saying:
“I hope your NPF party will empower the youths to take over. Don’t oppress them; make sure they are not harassed.”

One of the G40 cabal members, Mr Makhosini Hlongwane distanced himself from the outfit saying he would today issue a joint statement with his colleague Dr Walter Mzembi, both of whom have been linked to NPF.

“We are preparing a comprehensive joint statement with my brother, Dr Mzembi responding to the media reports linking us to that political outfit. It is unfortunate that the stories were published without seeking our comments,” said Mr Hlongwane.

One of G40 members, Mr Jeppy Jaboon said he was not aware of the existence of the political outfit and wondered how his name was roped in.
“I am dismayed that The Herald has not checked and verified its intelligence source alluding to the formation of NPF whose conscription include people like me and other comrades whom I know are equally disappointed with the reckless name dropping into the structures of this party. I for one was expelled from Zanu-PF and am not part and parcel of the formation of this outfit,” he said.

Mr Jaboon was Bikita South legislator before he was expelled both from Zanu-PF and Parliament over his links with the G40 cabal.

Another G40 member, Mr Shadreck Mashayamombe said he was not a member of the political outfit neither did he attend any of its meetings.

“I want to make it categorically clear that I am not a member of the NPF. I do not know who its members are neither have I ever attended any of its meetings. I have just read about its formation in the media,” said Mr Mashayamombe, who is former Harare South legislator but was subsequently fired over his links with G40 cabal.

Uzumba MP Cde Simba Mudarikwa rubbished claims linking him to the political outfit.
“I do not have time to waste. I am one of those MPs who were ready for the impeachment debate last year and why would I join a political outfit whose origin I have no idea of?” said Cde Mudarikwa.
Chikomba East MP Cde Edgar Mbwembwe said he had no links with the NPF and accused some politicians of trying to smear his name. “I am annoyed by the allegations which are completely unfounded. There are criminal elements lingering somewhere which are not comfortable with my presence who are simply expressing their wish which unfortunately will not materialise,” said Cde Mbwembwe.

In a statement NPF spokesperson, Mr Mawarire claimed that the party commanded two thirds of Zanu-PF members while another third was still undecided.

Rtd Brig Gen Mutinhiri resigned from Zanu –PF last week to lead the NPF, which he said was conceived on November 19 2017 after the military intervened to avert the deteriorating situation through Operation Restore Legacy.

The NPF sought to discredit the new dispensation led by President Mnangagwa despite receiving a thumbs up from regional and international organisations such as Sadc, African Union and the United Nations, among others.

Several countries particularly in the West have already expressed interest to work with the new dispensation.

Rtd Brig Gen Mutinhiri made an announcement last Friday that he was leaving Zanu-PF on flimsy reasons about the new dispensation, despite that he had shown eagerness to participate since the military intervention in November last year. Herald

POLICE BREAKING NEWS: “It’s True I Killed These Women,” Chivi Man Finally Confesses On LIVE Camera

just after being given a citizens arrest…murder suspect tied to a rope

By Staff Reporter| A man who was yesterday caught and given a citizens arrest in Chivi amid serious charges of rape, assault and murder, has confessed to carrying out these acts of violence.

This highly disturbing trail of events follows the recent splashing on social media of pictures of injured women assaulted and with head injuries. One of the women has a deep gush of blood in the head from an axe like object.

ZimEye.com today reveals exclusive police footage from inside the Ngundu Police station of the man as he confessed to carrying out summary executions and killing of particularly women in evil Jack The Ripper style.

A frustrating component of this sequel events shows how members of the public performed their own policing and successful arrest of the alleged murderer.

Shock As Govt Blames Doctors Strike For Man’s Death

A man (83) suffering from urinary tract obstruction was found dead at a Bulawayo hospital on Friday after spending hours unattended because doctors are on strike.

Patients who suffer from the condition have a blockage that inhibits the flow of urine through its normal path (the urinary tract), including the kidneys, ureters, bladder and urethra.

Mr Patrick Nkomazana from Mpopoma suburb was found dead by his sister at Mpilo Central Hospital casualty ward on Friday morning.  Although he had been attended to by nurses on Thursday, he had to be seen by a medical doctor for him to receive treatment.  However, none did because of the ongoing strike.

Hospital doctors downed tools on March 1 after petitioning Government to address a number of grievances that include the payment of locum allowances.

In an interview yesterday, Nkomazana’s sister Mrs Belina Masuku told The Chronicle that she spent six hours at the casualty ward waiting for her brother to be attended to.

“I am so heart broken right now and I am not sure if I will be able to get over this. My brother was rushed from Mpopoma Clinic in an ambulance and got at Mpilo just before 1PM,” said Mrs Masuku.

“He was given a bed to lie on, but I left the hospital after 7PM and no doctor had seen him and no catheter had been put to help him relieve himself,” she said.

She said nurses eventually allowed her to leave her brother promising that the doctor would attend to him.

“After sitting for hours watching my brother wail in pain, we had to leave Mpilo. The next morning I was shocked to be told that he had died and surprisingly not even the nurses knew when he had died,” added Mrs Masuku.

“The nurse I talked to said she found him dead while doing rounds in the morning and was not sure when it happened.”

Another affected patient is an 81-year-old man from Tsholotsho who said he has been stuck in Bulawayo since last Thursday.

“I visited Mpilo last year and we were asked to buy medication and a kit to treat my feet. The situation worsened and I was due for a check-up last Thursday so that doctors could advise me on what to do next,” said Mr Spendo Dlamini.

“I have been stuck here since last Thursday because doctors are on strike, my feet are still sore and I cannot help but worry about my belongings back in Tsholotsho as I never planned to spend a night in Bulawayo,” said the octogenarian.

He said he was in constant pain and could barely walk.

“I have incurred costs by extending my stay in Bulawayo and I wish I could just see a doctor and go back to Tsholotsho as I have pressing issues there,” he said.

Zimbabwe Hospital Doctors Association spokesperson Dr Mxolisi Ngwenya said the strike was still on as they are yet to receive communication from the Government.

“The Ministry has been communicating to us through the media ever since we took industrial action. They are yet to officially and directly engage us and we are hopeful that such will yield positive results,” said Dr Ngwenya.

“The strike is still on and that is all we can say for now,” he said.

Mpilo clinical director Dr Solwayo Ngwenya said the situation had not changed which was heavily affecting patients.

“We still do not have doctors from last Thursday and they have not communicated anything about when they intend to come back to work. None of them has heeded the call by the Minister and sadly patients are the most affected,” said Dr Ngwenya.

United Bulawayo Hospitals clinical director Dr Narcacius Dzvanga could not be reached for comment on the situation at the institution.

In a joint statement issued on Sunday, the Ministry of Health and Child Care and the Health Service Board said the strike was illegal urging doctors to return to work immediately.

Some of the issues raised by the doctors among them locum payments, motor vehicle scheme, availability of equipment and medicines at hospitals and freeze of vacant positions had been addressed.

Government said it had allocated $10 million for transport costs for the health workers who are sometimes required to report for duty at odd hours.

Chamisa Blast In Italy

The leaders of two anti-establishment parties – The Five Star Movement and the anti-illegal migrant League party – are setting their sights on power after Italians backed populist politicians in the general election.

The BBC’s James Reynolds, in Milan, looks at what the result means for the country.

Luigi Di Maio and Matteo Salvini were once outsiders in Italian politics. They have now become the mainstream.

Italian voters, when they’re fed up, have a habit of trying out new voices. In 1994, following corruption scandals, the country re-aligned itself.

Now, to a certain extent, Italy is repeating its old experiments.

Five Star began in 2009 as a radical, even anti-political party. For years, it was dominated by its co-founder, the comedian Beppe Grillo. Earlier this year, he decided to stand back from the party.

In retrospect, this looks like a smart move. It allowed the movement to prove that it represents more than the loud visions of a single, occasionally conspiratorial-sounding man.

The movement made a big point of running alone in this election (by contrast, other major parties teamed up into electoral alliances).

But the feature that gives the party its strength – its independence – may now become its weakness.

In order to form a government, Five Star must find coalition partners. Its inexperience in working with others may be a disadvantage in the practical business of coalition building.

So, which way will Five Star turn?

It’s possible that the party will reach out to defeated centre-left Democratic Party, and to other smaller groupings.

Image captionLuigi Di Maio (left) is also barging through to be the top dog in politics

Alternatively, Five Star may hope to convince the League party to join a coalition as a junior partner.

The two parties share a scepticism of Italy’s relationship with the European Union. They also share several domestic views, including a hostility towards mandatory vaccinations for children.

But the League party is in no mood to take the small chair at the table. In Milan, party leader Matteo Salvini insisted that his organisation has itself earned the right to lead the country.

The League has risen dramatically in recent years. It was founded in 1991 as a secessionist party, which scorned what it viewed as the scrounging southern part of the country.

But the League now seeks the lead the country it once wanted to break apart.

The party has increased its support partly by swapping its enemies. Instead of criticising southerners, the party now campaigns against illegal migrants.

Matteo Salvini has promised the mass deportation of those who’ve come to Italy illegally – a position that’s clearly won him support.

Image captionMr Berlusconi was ambushed by a topless protester from a feminist activist group as he voted

Crucially, the League has overtaken Silvio Berlusconi’s Forza Italia as the biggest grouping within the centre-right alliance.

Mr Berlusconi, 81, will now have to find a new way of retaking centre stage.

He may be commiserated by his fellow former prime minister, the Democratic Party’s Matteo Renzi – who was also heavily defeated in this vote.

In 1994, Mr Berlusconi was Italy’s fresh voice.

Twenty years later, Mr Renzi took his turn as the energetic new face in Italy’s politics.

But the country’s voters have repeatedly proven that new faces don’t always last. That’s a sobering warning for Luigi Di Maio and Matteo Salvini.- BBC

Shebeen Queen Murders Hubby In Cold Blood

A 30 year old man from Pumula suburb in Bulawayo died after he was allegedly stabbed by his wife who is said to be a shebeen queen following a misunderstanding.

Neighbours claim Martin Ncube was stabbed once in the chest by Nomzamoluhle Dube (30) at around 1AM on Sunday.

Dube, who is popularly known as ‘Hlengiwe’ in the neighbourhood, allegedly runs a shebeen at her family house where she was staying with her husband.

Neighbours told The Chronicle that Dube killed her husband in the presence of their two children.

“It was sad to hear their Grade 2 child state that ‘mommy killed daddy and threw the knife in the garden.’ Hlengiwe has always been known as a violent woman who has previously chased many people at knife point but we didn’t see this coming,” said one woman speaking on condition of anonymity.

Bulawayo Metropolitan Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Precious Simango confirmed the murder incident.

“I can confirm that we are investigating a case of murder where a woman from Pumula suburb stabbed her husband following a misunderstanding. He managed to stagger outside the house before he collapsed and died,” she said.

“We continue to warn the public to desist from being violent as we continue to lose lives unnecessarily. In this incident, a woman allegedly killed her husband in front of their children and this is bad because it will haunt their children for the rest of their lives.”

A neighbour who only identified herself as MaMoyo said Dube was not new to violent confrontations with people.

“On this particular night, Dube followed her husband at a local bar where the two argued for a while before she returned home in the company of her friends. They purchased a number of bottles of whiskey and they drank through the night.

“When Ncube arrived home at around 1AM, he knocked for a very long time before his wife opened the door for him. We suspect he was annoyed by this and once he got inside the house, he questioned her over why she took too long to open for him and why she had followed him to the bar earlier on,” she said.

“An argument ensued and the woman grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed him. She ran out, half dressed and started knocking at their neighbours’ house, screaming that she had killed her husband.”

MaMoyo said last month, Dube threatened to stab a woman who lives a few houses from her residence.

“It was over a misunderstanding which didn’t even involve her, but because she loved fighting, she went up in arms with her, threatening to kill her,” she said. – state media

Hungwe Riles The European Union

Terrence Mawawa, Masvingo | Masvingo State Minister Josaya Dunira Hungwe’ s remarks about the need to grab the properties in the Save Valley Conservancy have riled officials from the European Union.

Hungwe last week vowed to kick out white people occupying 13 properties in the Save Valley Conservancy.

Of the 27 properties in the Save Valley Conservancy only 13 are owned by foreigners.

Officials who accompanied EU Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Philipe Van Damme during his visit to Chiredzi last week said Hungwe’ s remarks were unfortunate.

“We regret to say the Minister’ s remarks are detrimental to the Bilateral Investment Promotion and Protection Agreements,” said an official who declined to be named.

However Van Damme skirted the matter when he addressed government officials in Chiredzi last week.

Zanu PF Clings On To Mugabe Regalia

Delays by Zanu PF in distributing new party regalia emblazoned with Emmerson Mnangagwa has resulted in continued use of paraphernalia emblazoned with toppled despot Robert Mugabe’s face, it has emerged.

Despite President Mnangagwa’s ruling party prohibiting the wearing of Mugabe’s regalia following his military aided ouster last year, T-shirts bearing Mugabe’s name remain a common sight among Zanu PF supporters

The situation has seen party provincial bigwigs having to repeatedly warn Zanu PF supporters against continued use of paraphernalia inherited from the “ancient regime”.

Zanu PF spokesperson Simon Khaya Moyo confirmed that information had not yet reached all of the party’s supporters that the Mugabe regalia is now considered obsolete.

“The commissariat department is the one responsible for ensuring that supporters put on the proper party regalia and I am sure are in the process of communicating that information to the provinces and sooner than later it will be uniform throughout,” Khaya Moyo said.

Zanu PF secretary for administration Obert Mpofu told journalists in Bulawayo recently that the party was now done with designing the new regalia that has since been approved by the Zanu PF politburo.

“The regalia will appeal to the majority of our members.

“It is quite a well thought-out design which I think all of us will be happy with,” said Mpofu.

Manicaland provincial chairperson Mike Madiro recently reminded Zanu PF supporters in the province that they needed to start marketing Mnangagwa’s name ahead of elections.

“We have those with old party regalia such as Zambia cloths and T-shirts displaying former president (Robert) Mugabe’s face, we should stop putting them on and wait for the new regalia emblazoned with … Mnangagwa’s face so that we can market him in districts ahead of the polls.

“We want people to know him,” Madiro reportedly told an inter district meeting at Mutare Hall last week.- Daily News

South African Court Rules To Repatriate 8 Zim Kids

A bid to block the repatriation of eight Zimbabwean children held in South Africa since November has been dismissed.
Judge Bill Prinsloo dismissed the urgent interim application in the North Gauteng High Court on Monday.
The matter ran into the evening with just hours until the scheduled repatriation of the children.
The Department of Social Development’s Lumka Oliphant says the outcome was a victory for those acting in the best interest of children. She added the department had acted in the children’s best interests.
This statement was supported by Judge Prinsloo’s judgement. He found there were serious concerns over how the children arrived in South Africa, unaccompanied and without documents.
“I am of the view that the best interests of the children were taken into account,” he said.
Judge Prinsloo did not rule on the question of the children being trafficked, and there was no evidence before the court to that effect, “there is a very strong inference to be drawn” that they may have been trafficked from Zimbabwe to South Africa.
The children were found in a truck which stopped in Rustenburg on 12 November 2017. According to police evidence, the truck driver was arrested and appeared on charges of human trafficking and contravening parts of the Immigration Act. He was granted bail and is next due in court on 19 March 2018.
Judge Prinsloo questioned the ostensible parents’ actions. He said, “The fact that they allowed their children – if it is their children, which is open to doubt – to travel to travel without documentation in the company of strange other adults, at night, hidden at the back of a truck ostensibly from Beit Bridge to the Cape, leaves one with some doubt […] about the suitability of these applicants to simply take possession of these eight children.”
The eight adults who claim to be the parents of the children, aged two to fourteen, took the Minister of Social Development and the Minister of Homa Affairs to court on an urgent basis.
At first, they wanted access to the children, whom they claimed to have not seen in months. However, once they learned of a planned repatriation they sought to block the government from moving the children from South Africa to Zimbabwe.
They accused the Department of Social Development from denying them access to the children.
In late February, Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare wrote to South African authorities saying they were ready to receive the children on Tuesday, 6 March 2018.
The Department of Social Development told eNCA the repatriation would occur this week but did not confirm a date.eNCA

Mnangagwa Allies Attack “Traitor” Mutinhiri

Former ZIPRA combatants, Headman Moyo and Freddy Mutanda have lashed out at former Minister of State for Mashonaland East, Retired Brigadier General Ambros Mutinhiri, describing him as a sellout, whose traits can be traced back to the time of the liberation struggle.

Retired Brigadier General Ambros Mutinhiri recently quit the ruling Zanu PF party and reports suggest that he is now the interim leader of a new political outfit, National Patriotic Front (NPF), which is largely composed of G40 members, who fell by the wayside during last year’s Operation Restore Legacy.’

After these developments, ex-ZIPRA cadres have jumped in to expose the former Minister’s past, which was unknown to many.

“He is a sellout. During the war of liberation, he took a sabbatical and left the ZIPRA command suckling after the death of Commander, Cde Alfred Nikita Mangena,” said Cde Moyo, adding that the death of Cde Mangena led to the subsequent elevation of the late Lookout Masuku to lead ZIPRA forces.

According to Moyo, at independence in 1980, Retired Brigadier General Mutinhiri was just an ordinary man staying in Makene, Lusaka, Zambia.

Mutanda weighed in saying Retired Brigadier General Mutinhiri and the former president Robert Mugabe are blood related from their mothers’ side.

Retired Brigadier General Mutinhiri reportedly met former President Mugabe prior to his presumed confirmation as the leader of NPF.

Zanu PF Secretary for Information and Publicity, Ambassador Simon Khaya Moyo said the decision taken by Mutinhiri is his own and as adult, he will carry cross.- State Media

Mnangagwa Church Leaders, Declares He Wants To Meet Chamisa On Violence

Mnangagwa meeting church leaders

By Paul Nyathi| President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Monday afternoon met with church leaders who incidentally also met the rival MDC-T leader, Nelson Chamisa last week.

Speaking to the church leaders, Mnangagwa implored that he is eager to see a free, fair and violence free election.

“We want to hold a peaceful election this year with no violence or intimidation,” said Mnangagwa.

Speaking on the intra party violence within the opposition MDC-T, Mnangagwa said that he will make plans to meet with Nelson Chamisa and leaders of other parties to discuss the issue of violence.

In his Facebook post, Mnangagwa called on the church to take the lead in promoting peace in the country.

“Today, I met with church leaders to encourage them to play a central role in promoting love, unity and forgiveness in the run up to the elections and beyond,” said Mnangagwa.

“I told them that both church and government must preach the gospel of peace and preach the gospel of reconciliation. My administration has preached, and will always preach, peace and unity,” he added.

Wicknell Chivayo Attacks Chamisa

A Correspondent| Convicted fraudster, Wicknell Chivayo has attacked MDC leader Nelson Chamisa.

In a strongly worded offload mocking Chamisa, Chivayo who has failed to account for over 5 million dollars of public money he swindled from ZESA, began a long article lecture, “teaching” Chamisa the accounting figures for a railway construction. Below was the full post:

MDC President Hon Nelson Chamisa promised us bullet trains in his first five years if elected. I did dig up some information about infrastructure required to have a bullet train service. From that information it is apparent that completely new rail tracks will be required to have bullet trains.

In terms of costs, the information shows that it will cost between $105m and $178m to construct 1km of track suitable for bullet trains.

Harare-Bulawayo is 436km by road. Using that as a surrogate, it will cost between $45,78bn and $77,608bn to put rail infrastructure compatible with bullet trains. I will ignore the cost of acquiring the trains and passenger wagons.

Assuming annual net cashflows of $1bn, the undiscounted payback period will be between 46 and 78 years. To be able to earn net cashflows of $1bn per year, the project will need to earn net cashflows of $2,747 million a day. Assuming they will charge $50 for one way trip, they will need to ferry 55, 000 passengers per day. If they charge $100, that’s 25,000 passengers per day.

It will be a major surprise if that route handles more than 6,000 travellers a day, both directions.

In short the bullet train project is never going to be feasible from a cost and passenger traffic point of view. Any government that wants to have such a project will have to fund from its coffers and be ready to subsidise the facility. Zimbabwe clearly has never reached that point.

Chamisa claims that $15bn is needed to revive the economy, yet one of his envisioned project costs 3 times that much, which costs can easily be more than 5 times their target funding requirements.

Clearly Chamisa does not talk from informed viewpoints but rather just try to find promises that excite the youthful and unsuspecting voters.

Mujuru Spokesperson New Mugabe Party Spokesperson

Ambrose Mtinhiri

By Paul Nyathi

Disposed former National People’s Party National Spokesperson Jealous Mawarire has re-emerged in Zimbabwean politics this time as spokesperson of the new political party the National Patriotic Front.

Mawarire revealed himself as the spokesperson of the party in an interview with Voice Of America’s Studio Seven on Monday. The party is being spearheaded from the sidelines by former President Robert Mugabe.

Mawarire revealed that the party will be officially launched within the next few days in preparation for the upcoming elections.

Asked to reveal who the party leadership is, Mawarire would not disclose claiming that the party leadership will be disclosed at the launch.

Meanwhile, sources close to the party indicated that Retired Brigadier General Ambrose Mtinhiri who resigned from the ruling ZANU PF party last week has been seconded by Mugabe to lead the party in the interim.

Several former ZANU PF members who were in the G40 faction are reportedly part of the leadership of the party.

Former First Lady Grace Mugabe is expected to eventually take over the leadership of the party at some stage and be the presidential candidate for the party.

From Riches to Rags, Undenge Falls On Hard Times

Former Cabinet Minister Samuel Undenge has hit hard times and is struggling to raise money to travel from Chimanimani to Harare where he is supposed to report at Highlands police station as part of his bail conditions, the court heard today.

The former Energy and Power Development minister is accused of prejudicing Zimbabwe Power Company of $12 650.

Undenge appeared before magistrate Ms Tilda Mazhande today and successfully made an application for variation of bail conditions

Through his lawyer, Mr Alec Muchadehama, Undenge informed the court that he was now into farming in Chimanimani hence was finding it difficult to travel to Harare every week due to financial constraints.

When he initially appeared in court, Undenge was ordered to report once a week to the police as part of his bail conditions.

“Having to travel every Friday to make a report, is now a burden to him since he is no longer employed,” Mr Muchadehama said.

Mugabe Deals Mnangagwa A Deadly Blow

The glue that had appeared to bind Zanu PF after it got rid of “criminals” around toppled despot Robert Mugabe seem to be peeling off at critical stages when President Emmerson Mnangagwa is about to test his popularity at the forthcoming polls after assuming the reins of power in December last year.

The resignation of retired brigadier general Ambrose Mutinhiri from both his constituency (Marondera West) and the party — a few weeks after Mugabe had briefed African Union (AU) Commission chair Moussa Faki Mahamat that his removal in November last year was “unconstitutional” — has exposed new fault lines within Zanu PF.

His surprise resignation also comes at a time when Mnangagwa has been dragged to the Constitutional Court by a group of Zimbabweans who are challenging his legitimacy.

Mutinhiri, who hand-delivered his letters of resignation to the Zanu PF headquarters and to Parliament on Friday, upped the ante, accusing Mnangagwa of using the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) to grab power, in what analysts said could be representative of the unspoken sentiment in some sections of Zanu PF.

Mnangagwa came to power in November last year through the intervention by the ZDF, which followed his expulsion from both government and party.

Following the takeover by the army, Mugabe resigned in the subsequent days at a time his party had also started instituting impeachment proceedings.

However, there have been concerns over Mnangagwa’s legitimacy, even though regional and international bodies have embraced him.

In his resignation letter addressed to the Speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda and copied to Zanu PF secretary for administration Obert Mpofu, Mutinhiri, who is a senior Zipra commander, said Mnangagwa’s government was “illegal”.

“As a trained soldier, a former freedom fighter, a former Zipra commander during the liberation struggle, a former diplomat and a former Cabinet minister, I am too aware of not only the values and ethos of Zimbabwe’s armed liberation struggle and the subsequent role the founding commanders of the liberation envisaged for the national army in independent Zimbabwe but also of the functions and limits of the ZDF as enshrined in the Constitution of Zimbabwe authored through a people driven process and adopted after a national referendum as recent as 2013.

“The fundamental values and tenets of both Zimbabwe’s heroic liberation struggle and the Constitution of Zimbabwe dictate that executive authority is derived from the people and not from the gun. In other words, the enduring principle of Zimbabwe’s armed liberation struggle and constitutional democracy is that politics must always lead the gun. The ZDF coup of 15 November 2017 violated a cherished heritage of our liberation struggle and of our hard-won constitutional democracy,” Mutinhiri said.

Efforts to get a comment from Zanu PF spokesperson Simon Khaya Moyo could not yield any results as he was said to be in a meeting yesterday.

Political analysts that spoke to the Daily News yesterday said Mutinhiri’s stance could be testimony of the bottled disgruntlement of many within Zanu PF and could have the effect of increasing the momentum within the MDC Alliance, under the youthful leadership of Nelson Chamisa.

“It makes those pro-democracy activists who supported the coup to change their mind given than one of the Zanu PF inner circles confirmed the coup. It’s also a sign that all is not well. It also confirms factionalism in Zanu PF along the lines of seating MPs and those in military aspiring to take over the seats. It also confirms that a coup is not a sustainable power transfer strategy and once a coup is done a precedent is set and another coup will happen,” political analyst Maxwell Saungweme said.

Many of Mnangagwa’s allies were left disgruntled after being snubbed from key government positions despite biting the bullet for the former vice president during the Mugabe administration.

His elevation to presidency, created a crisis as some of his allies felt the spoils only benefitted army officials, who were awarded with key government posts.

A retired army commander and brigadier, Mutinhiri was born February 22, 1944.

He was trained in Russia during the Rhodesian Bush War and was known for training the best calibre of soldiers during this period, even the late general Solomon Mujuru testified that he was trained by Mutinhiri.

He served as minister of Youth Development and Employment Creation and Provincial Affairs minister for Mashonaland East.

Zanu PF is said to have panicked because of Mutinhiri’s resignation, amid unverified reports that its national chairperson Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri has beseeched party organs to reach out to members of the Gammatox faction who were shunted aside by the party in 2014 for hobnobbing with former vice president Joice Mujuru.

This comes as retired brigadier general Agrippa Mutambara, leader of the Zimbabwe People First, has issued a scathing statement, dismissing reports that his party officials had defected to Zanu PF.

“Fellow Zimbabweans, it would be more honourable to quit politics than to board a sinking titanic. Zanu PF is a sinking titanic,” said Mutambara, in a statement.

Political analyst Shakespeare Hamauswa said the stance taken by Mutinhiri is evidence of the fault lines within Zanu PF.

“I think it shows there are a lot of people within the party who are not happy with what is happening. Although, previously we had retired army personnel joining politics, the situation is now different because serving army generals are influencing the direction of the party.

“We are seeing the military system coming to the centre of politics. As a result, many civilian politicians are left disgruntled. It also looks like G40 members are still within the party. By resigning possibly he (Mutinhiri) knows he was going to be booted out,” Hamauswa said.

Another political analyst and University of Zimbabwe senior lecturer in the department of Social Science Tawanda Zinyama said Mutinhiri’s exit must not be underestimated.

“Yes, indeed it (his exit) does have an impact because Mutinhiri is a very senior guy in Zanu PF and secondly he is a member of Zapu and that affiliation alone has got an impact,” Zinyama said.

He also said Mutinhiri has got followers of his own, who are going to leave Zanu PF because of his exit, adding that in the country’s 10 provinces there are like-minded people, who are also contemplating leaving the ruling party.

“Zanu PF may say, it’s just an individual who has left, but he is not an individual, there are many that follow him. And given that we are heading towards elections, a party cannot afford to lose even a single person, because politics is a game of numbers,” he said.

He however, said the legitimacy issue being raised by Mutinhiri in his letter may not gain traction with regional and international community such as the Southern African Development Community (Sadc) and the AU have already embraced Mnangagwa.

He said what has only been left is for Mnangagwa to win the forthcoming elections to legitimise his position in power.

In his letter, Mutinhiri said an illegality was perpetrated by a “few rogue elements” in the command structure of the ZDF, who abused their positions, resulting in last year’s events.

“Our national Constitution clearly defines the role of the ZDF and outlaws any of its serving members from engaging in partisan politics as was witnessed on 15 November 2017 when some rogue elements in the command structure staged a coup in the name of ZDF under the shocking pretext of averting a Zanu PF electoral loss in the forthcoming harmonised elections,” he said.

Mutinhiri, who has in the past been tipped to be appointed the country’s vice president by virtue of being the most senior surviving member of the Zipra command in line with the Unity Accord signed between PF Zapu and Zanu PF in 1987, said the ruling party has been hijacked and corrupted by fascist elements.

“I am a firm believer, as a disciplined former soldier and product of our nationalist movements, in the sanctity of democratic ethos and constitutionalism that put our people as the only source of legitimacy in the governance structures from local to national levels,” he said.

He further said the situation was also made worse by the Parliament, which he claimed failed to defend the Constitution in a “misguided attempt to justify a military coup”.

“I therefore condemn and despise any attempt at usurping the people’s power by those entrusted with the national duty to protect the country’s citizens and their leadership. I, like many others in the country and particularly in Zanu PF, refuse to be associated with such illegality in the false name of restoring legacy of (ex) President Mugabe, let alone that of our heroic armed liberation struggle,” Mutinhiri said.

He said the turning of guns against Mugabe was tantamount to turning guns at millions of Zimbabweans that voted him into power.

“It is therefore incumbent upon every patriotic, law abiding Zimbabwean to stand up and condemn the coup and make sure that, never again will such an affront on the Constitution be allowed.

“I am aware, as is everyone else who cares to look at the situation closely that Zimbabweans from all the country’s 10 provinces are not happy with the militarisation of our national politics. As such, I have chosen to be on the side of the people and to move forward with the people to restore normalcy, democracy, constitutionalism and legitimacy in Zimbabwe as a matter of national urgency,” he said.- Daily News

“I Slept With The Wrong Man”

In an incident that left Gweru residents awestruck a man has backed his wife up against allegations of prostitution where she shared a bed with a stranger the whole night who later stole from her.

Terence Kondo of Ascot Infill Gweru appeared before Gweru magistrate Mildred Matuvi facing theft charges.

He was convicted on his own plea and was remanded to today for sentencing.

Brenda Hwata’s husband appeared in court defending his wife that she was coned after she rendered help to a man who was in need.

He also testified that he trusted his wife because she was faithful and loyal adding that there was no way she could betray him.

It is the State’s case that Brenda a 40-year-old of Mutapa suburb spent the night with a 22-year-old Terence Kondo while drinking at Sacalo Night Club.

Terence then accompanied Brenda to her house.

When they got to her place, Terence asked Brenda for a place to sleep for $10.

Brenda gave Terence her Nokia 1202 to put his line and do an Ecocash transaction since his phone was off.

The two shared a bed.

During the night, Terence sneaked out while Brenda was sleeping and stole the cell phone he had been given to make payment for the night, another Sony cell phone, a pair of jean trousers, one pair of shoes, DStv decorder and $146.00.

It is alleged that Brenda is a well-known ho_oker in Mutapa. However, the husband argued otherwise in court.

Brenda was awakened by her husband who arrived that morning from Kwekwe who noticed that there were missing goods.

The case was reported to the police following Terence’s arrest.

He was able to recover $18 of the $311 valued stolen property.

Time Runs Out For Khupe

Time is running out for MDC vice president Thokozani Khupe to build bridges with the party’s new leader, Nelson Chamisa, with whom she is fighting a terminal turf war.

The MDC’s national council gave Khupe — one of the founding members of the labour-backed party — a seven-day ultimatum last week to smoke a peace pipe with Chamisa or ship out.
This was after the party’s highest decision-making organ in between congresses resolved to endorse Chamisa, who turned 40 years last month, as the party’s substantive president mid last week.
Khupe is now left with two days before her fate is sealed.

So far, there is no sign that Khupe will give in as she insists that she is the only legitimate leader of the MDC, having been elected vice president at the party’s congress in 2006.

Chamisa, along with Elias Mudzuri, were appointed vice presidents by Morgan Tsvangirai (now late)
in July 2016 in what became the genesis of the strained relations between the MDC founding president and his second in command.

Although Khupe could not be reached for comment yesterday, her spokesperson Witness Dube told the Daily News that her boss will not comply with the national council’s decision.
“To say we are complying is rather too strong a word. We are trying our best to make the MDC-T work as a unit. That’s all,” he said.

In the aftermath of the ultimatum, Khupe has been on a frenzied tweeting spree, rubbishing Chamisa’s endorsement.

About 24 hours after she was served with the order for compliance with party decisions, she tweeted:
“It is regrettable and very revealing that while the Guardian Council leadership is yet ceased with sensitive matters in the party, some take pleasure in bullish threats, ultimatums and suspensions. For the record, I have always been acting president of MDC-T in the absence of the late president Tsvangirai since 2006, up until the late president left Zimbabwe on what was to be his last trip to South Africa in January 2018, when he left Hon Mudzuri as acting president.”

In terms of the MDC constitution, the Guardian Council acts as the party’s advisory board.
It is chaired by MDC Senator James Makore.

Career politician and veteran trade unionist, Cephas Makuyana, who once served as Senator, is also a member of the Guardian Council.

Its role is to offer advice and wisdom to the national leadership of the party, including the national executive and the national council.

It also performs and/or carry out any such functions which the national council may from time to time delegate to it, which may include investigations, arbitration and reconciliation in disputes within the party structures and/or among members.

On Friday last week, Khupe had another tweet saying: “This means that by all manner of calculations, when he passed away, I had not been away from party business for eight months as widely claimed.”

“I last saw president Tsvangirai alive on the 28th of January 2018. I made an effort to resolve issues in the MDC-T by going in person to meet and share notes with Hon Chamisa at his law chambers on the 13th of February 2018, a day before president Tsvangirai passed on,” she said.

But her twitter followers took her to task, some suggesting the need to engage arbitrators in order to solve the issue.

“How do you address allegations of insubordination, absconding meetings, fanning factionalism. With all due respect @DrThoko_Khupe can you seek some mediation and resolve this through internal party structures, have you tried these,” wrote one Brighton Kunaka.
She responded by saying she had written to the MDC’s Guardians Council, asking for their intervention in the impasse but that effort has so far been frustrated by Chamisa.

“I personally went to Hon Chamisa’s Law Chambers on the 13th of February 2018. I wrote a letter to the party’s Guardian Council for them to intervene in terms of our constitution. They are the internal arbiters and are seized with this matter even as ultimatums are being issued,” she wrote in response.
Not to be outdone, Chamisa wadded into the debate and, re-tweeting Khupe’s posts, he wrote: “That ain’t smart Dr. You refused to meet MRT (Tsvangirai’s full initials) in Harare saying it wasn’t safe for you but there you were, in Chamisa chambers.”

He added: “Khupe is just stubborn; it’s all about positioning herself without the people at heart. Greedy and opportunist she is, I can say!”
Khupe responded angrily and accused Chamisa of employing violence and bullying tactics to win power.

“A comment yet more revealing of the characters that support bullish political tactics. With all due respect Mr, I may be a woman, but I am not easily fazed by such. Very resolute and on principle, very unflinching! CONSTITUTIONALISM & DEMOCRACY are not a respecter of any person,” she responded.

The bad blood between Khupe and Chamisa started in 2016 when Tsvangirai elevated the Kuwadzana West legislator to the position of vice president.

Since then, the crafty legislator, nicknamed The Cobra after the menacing serpent, has worked his way to the leadership of the party, effectively dealing Khupe a body blow.
Their relationship soured even more last month when Khupe had to take refuge in a hut during Tsvangirai’s funeral to escape the wrath of MDC thugs who were baying for her blood before she was rescued by sympathisers. Daily News

Mugabe Warns Against Military Role In Next Elections, Says Mnangagwa Will Arrest Youths

Ray Nkosi | In a new development former President Robert Mugabe has warned against army role in the next elections.

Mugabe is more and more becoming a vocal opposition voice against the President Emmerson Mnangagwa administration, has also warned that youths are going to be arrested and he knows this.

Speaking from his Blue Roof residence to General Ambrose Mutinhiri the leader of the New Patriotic Front, Mugabe is reported in a statement saying, “everyone should fight to ensure that people are free to belong to parties of their choice and that there is no interference by the Army or those that would want to resort to violence as a means of getting votes.”

Mugabe also urges the NPF to promote youth participation in politics. “I hope your NPF party will empower the youths to takeover. Don’t oppress them; make sure they are not harassed. I know they will be harassed and some arrested but empower them mentally to fight for what is right,” he said.

Mutinhiri promised President Mugabe that NPF will uphold the values and democratic ideals of the liberation struggle, especially the preservation of the historic land reform that Emmerson Mnangagwa says the Junta controlled Zanu PF is reversing along with youth empowerment policies.

Mnangagwa Preaches Forgiveness And Unity To Church Leaders

As the nation approaches elections in the next few months, the church has been urged to reach out to its congregants with the message of love, unity and forgiveness.

The call was made by President Emmerson Mnangagwa when he met church leaders at local hotel in Harare today.

President Mnangagwa said dialogue must continue, adding that his door will always remain open.
“Since taking office, I have used every opportunity to preach love, unity and forgiveness. I shall be meeting with other political parties to spread the same message of unity.

“While there may be some disagreements, we must never allow it to become poisonous. The church and government must preach the gospel of peace and preach the gospel of reconciliation. The new administration preaches peace and unity,” said President Mnangagwa.

The President said his administration remains committed to protecting rights of freedom of worship, saying bitterness that is engulfing some people in the country needs prayers.

“It is duty of the church to urge people to refrain from vindictiveness. The Bible says usadzorera chakaipa nechakaipa,” President Mnangagwa said.

He implored the church to partner the government for the development of the economy, reiterating that he is a listening President.

“Hatirambe tichiumba nyika yedu ikwirire tisapfimbike matarenda at akapiwa naJehovah. (Let us continue to build our country using the talents or resources that God gave us).
“As government, we also invite the church to participate in policies like command agriculture and others,” he said.

President Mnangagwa said the success of 2016/ 2017 farming season has spurred the government to expand it to other crops and fisheries.

He called upon church elders to come up with income generating projects to help the young generation and keep them out of mischief.

Turning to the issue of corruption and quoting Romans 12:1-2, Cde Mnangagwa said it takes time to weed out the corrupt elements but with commitment from all Zimbabweans, it shall be won, adding that real change will not occur overnight.

“In the last 3 months, we have managed to attract US$3 billion worth of investment (FDI) into our country. Real change takes time and will not occur overnight. Together we will drive this nation to success.

“It is time to boldly reclaim our space on the international arena. The period of an inward looking Zimbabwe is over. Focus of the new dispensation is to resurrect our economy,” he said.
The President promised to look into some of the requests by the church leaders which include restoration of a national day of prayer, having a Minister of Religion, restoration of land that churches lost during land reform, establishment of an Economic Christian Forum and church representation in parliament.

“You mention that you need more land to build churches and developmental projects and my government is supportive of that. We are glad by your declaration that the church supports the govt of the day,” said the President.

President Mnangagwa reiterated that Zimbabwe is open for business and expressed gratitude to church organisations for contributing to the development of the nation by building schools and clinics. – agencies

MUGABE GONE: Diaspora Protests Against The Junta

Zimbabweans in the Diaspora are planning to stage a protest at the Zimbabwean embassy in London on Wednesday in a bid to push government to deal with police brutality.

This comes amid calls by civil society activists for authorities to compensate families of two people that were recently shot dead by the police.

The protest is being organised by Restoration of Human Rights Zimbabwe United Kingdom Chapter together with the MDC, Zapu, Women of Justice Arise, Zimbabwe Human Rights Organisation and MaZimbabweans Yes We Can.

This is also happening at a time when social activists are calling for the police to compensate families of the bereaved.

Several organisations have expressed outrage over the killing of the two civilians by members of the ZRP, following a heated scuffle in Harare’s Central Business District (CBD) recently.

Harare’s CBD resembled a war zone as law enforcement agents blocked commuter omnibuses from either dropping or picking passengers in the capital.

This followed an unpopular directive by the Harare City Council to ban commuter omnibus operators from ferrying passengers into the city centre under an operation code-named Clean-up Harare CBD.

Police commissioner-general Godwin Matanga had to issue a formal apology following the incident, even though he insisted the police had been provoked and that they were not aware that the operation had been called off.

Following this incident, the Tendai Biti-led People’s Democratic Party (PDP) said repression and police brutality had no place in modern democracy.

“The deaths are a result of a conflict emanating from the failure to deal with a peripheral issue of congestion.

“A government with no respect for human life must be jettisoned, removing (former president Robert) Mugabe and a few G40 fellows is tinkering with the deck while the titanic is sinking,” PDP said.

Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition (CiZC) also criticised the police over the killings.

“CiZC condemns in the strongest sense, the inappropriate and violent law enforcement process which resulted in the death of three innocent civilians as police tried to forcefully enforce an ill-timed ban of commuter omnibuses in Harare’s CBD,” the organisation said.

Ancelmo Magaya’s Zimbabwe Divine Destiny also said: “The horrific pictures of burning vehicles right in front of the ZRP Harare Central Police Station and the stoning of the same which came as a result of public indignation over reckless shooting of at least two people by a trigger-happy police detail, paints a very gloomy and dark picture of the state of governance in our nation”.

Zimbabwe’s police have a history of using excessive force when it comes to enforcing certain statutes.

Some police officers have been previously sued in their personal capacities over these senseless brutal attacks.- Daily News

BLOODY CLASHES: Chamisa Fire Fights In Byo

Statement | The MDC has condemned the violence that took place at the party offices in Bulawayo and has immediately dispatched a two-member team to normalize the situation.

In addition, the party has ordered the party’s chairperson for Bulawayo province, Mr. Gift Banda, to submit a detailed report to President Nelson Chamisa by end of day today.

The party has today dispatched the party’s Arbiter-General and the head of Security and Intelligence, Mr. Giles Mutsekwa to normalize the situation in Bulawayo.

The party’s national council, the supreme decision-making body between Congresses, last week decisively pronounced itself on the matter and said violence was not part of the culture and the DNA of the MDC.

The national council resolved that stern action be taken against the instigators of the disturbing incidences of violence if they are found to be party members.

The party is concerned with the trend that started with the incident in Buhera and now the similar incident in Bulawayo. Of particular concern to the party is the convening of unsanctioned meetings by senior leaders in Bulawayo, the dereliction of duty by some senior officials as well as the possibility of an external hand in the disturbances.
