ZUPCO Fails To Pay Workers
Over 400 Zupco franchise drivers in Bulawayo yesterday downed tools in protest over poor working conditions and alleged victimisation by management.
Drivers said each time they tried to raise their concerns with Zupco management, they were either threatened with dismissal or told that they had no contract with Zupco.
“We have not been paid for two months since June 14, but we cash-in $16 000 or more everyday per bus. They give us $6 700 through EcoCash per day and they fail to pay us on time. We start work at 3am and we are supposed to refuel from 8pm until about 12 midnight with no time to rest,” one of the drivers said.
“Once we complain over such conditions, point inspectors threaten us with arrest. We are not given masks, there have no COVID-19 and food allowances, yet their conductors are given all these allowances,” he said.
Other drivers said they worked throughout the Heroes Day and Defences Forces Day holidays and were not paid allowances while Zupco conductors were paid allowances calculated at double rate.
“Those drivers that come to work five minutes late are sent back home. We used to get 40 litres of diesel for our trips — according to the agreement — but this has been reduced to between eight and 15 litres per day. We are not allowed into the premises once we meet the target of $16 000,” another driver said.
The drivers said they were forced to join the Zupco franchise due to the transport monopoly.
“Management promised to pay us the outstanding salaries backdated to four weeks yesterday afternoon, but they failed. We will not go back to work until they pay us for six weeks,” the driver said.
Efforts to get a comment from Zupco acting chief executive officer Everisto Madangwa were fruitless. Zupco southern region manager Tinei Rwasoka was also not reachable for comment.– Newsday

ZAMBIA ELECTION RESULTS: Lungu Deploys Army And Publishes ‘Flashing Suit’ Selfie Promising to Sail To Our Promised Land To Great Heights
By A Correspondent | As ZimEye follows Zambia’s election results today, the incumbent Edgar Lungu rushed to sound out a triumphant win a day before promising to sail the nation to great heights.
He said this after deploying soldiers on the streets a week before.
On 30 July, two PF supporters were found hacked to death in Kanyama constituency in Lusaka, the African-Arguments publication reports. In response, President Lungu ordered in the army to help the police maintain law and order. The next day, the Electoral Commission banned the UPND from engaging in campaign activities in Kanyama.
Opposition parties and other groups condemned the deployment of the military as unwarranted. They have raised the fact that Zambia’s military has a record of harassing and intimidating members of the public when called upon to maintain law and order.
Many are also questioning the true motivations for the move. Some suggest that the military may have been drafted in as the police cannot be trusted to apply to law in a fair and unbiased manner. Others believe the army has been mobilised in anticipation of violence in the event of a disputed result, though exactly how the military would respond to widespread popular protests is difficult to predict.
Some ruling party sympathisers have been agitating for the disqualification of the UPND from participating in the Kanyama election altogether and there are rumours one presidential candidate may withdraw from the race, thus causing the postponement of the election. Either of these actions, if carried out will adversely affect the campaign environment and may lead to unrest.
Indeed, there are many unknowns in how the results could unfold and how Zambians might respond. If President Lungu and the PF win convincingly, it is possible that there may not be any serious protests. However, if the results are close and one side disputes them – whether in the first round or after what would be Zambia’s first ever second-round run-off – there may well be unrest and protests that could turn violent. At this point, matters would become even more unpredictable.
Meanwhile,Lungu’s full statement is below:

My fellow citizens,
In a few hours, our country holds its general elections. It is a time to choose not only our leaders, but more importantly decide the destiny of our country.
I would like to thank you the citizens who have shown your support for me and my party, the Patriotic Front.
Many thanks to members of our party – the youths, women and men – who have worked tirelessly to put wind in the sails of our boat.
Now we can sail to our promised land and take our great nation to greater heights, building on the strong foundation we have laid.
The future of our country is brighter than when we first formed government in 2011.
Tomorrow, as you cast your vote, judge us by what we promised, against what we have delivered.
I’m also thankful to God for His grace to govern this great nation; I never took the responsibility lightly, and I always depended on Him for strength.
And now on this eve of our elections, I want to make final call for peace. Let us maintain the peace that we have enjoyed for decades.
Tomorrow come out in large numbers and vote; and vote for continuity.
Our victory is certain.
Mnangagwa Wary Of Rogue Soldiers
President Emmerson Mnangagwa has warned members of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) against engaging in criminal activities, saying such conduct brings shame to the force.
This comes following a rise in the number of armed robberies involving soldiers and police officers, with observers saying it is tantamount to a mutiny.
Speaking during the Zimbabwe Defence Forces Day celebrations in Harare on Tuesday, Mnangagwa said:
Yours is a noble profession, you must, therefore, avoid association and acts that put to shame our security institutions.
You as officers, men and women of the ZDF (Zimbabwe Defence Forces) should never be entangled in criminal activities.
Soldiers and police offices are paid more than other civil servants but their salaries have been eroded by inflation, forcing some of them into crime.
Recently, an elite soldier, a member of the Presidental Guard battalion was shot by Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officers and fled with a bullet lodged in his rib cage after robbing a Chitungwiza service station of cash, a firearm and other valuables.
Meanwhile, Mnangagwa yesterday said the government, “is committed to improving the conditions of service of the ZDF members.” He said:
… I challenge the ZDF administration to accelerate the completion of accommodation projects underway at Imbizo, Dzivarasekwa and Jason Ziyaphapha Moyo barracks.
The President also promised to equip the ZDF with modern technologies to enable them to ward off domestic and international threats.- NewsDay

Man Sets House On Fire Punishing Own Wife
A Bulawayo woman has been left to pick up the pieces after her estranged husband set her four-roomed house on fire, destroying all her property.
Since the Friday night incident, Mrs Thembelani Ncube from Cowdray Park suburb wakes up each morning, leaves her relative’s house where she is temporarily sleeping and heads back to the remains on her house where she spends most of her day clearing the debris.
Mrs Ncube said each trip back to her house was a constant reminder of what her 13-year marriage to her abusive ex-husband had cost her. She said the man was arrested, appeared in court and was remanded in custody.
When a Chronicle news crew arrived at her house yesterday, Mrs Ncube was sweeping in her house trying to clean the remaining debris. Heaps of her destroyed belongings could be seen in her yard which she said she hopes to remove soon.
She said the fire destroyed all the property in a room which she was using and part of the property in another room which was being used by a tenant.
Mrs Ncube said the fire brigade was able to contain the fire before it could spread to other rooms. She said before her ex-husband set the house on fire, he tried to assault her and she fled from the house.
“My ex-husband arrived at my house while I was cooking outside and he advanced towards me with the intention to assault me. I realised that my life was in danger and I fled from the house and headed to the Cowdray Park Police Station to make a report,” she said.
“A few minutes after I had left, I received a phone call from my neighbour telling me that my house was on fire. I rushed back and from a distance I could see my house in flames. I grew weak in the knees seeing my house engulfed by flames. My neighbours took a hose pipe and tried to put out the fire. This helped to contain it a bit until the fire brigade arrived. I bought that house before I met him and it’s the only valuable asset I have.”
Mrs Ncube said she lost her furniture, food, kitchen utensils, clothes, blankets, her important documents among other things. She said the fire caused a lot of damage to her house.
Mrs Ncube said she has to replace part of the roofing, windows, doors, electricity tubing, repair damaged walls and repaint the house.
“The house was seriously damaged and I don’t even know where to start or where I will get the money. I was using one room while my two other tenants were using the other rooms. All of my property which was in the room I use was damaged. I was left with no clothes except the ones which I was wearing. The fire also destroyed a few kitchen utensils in the kitchen which is being used by a tenant,” she said.
Mrs Ncube said her ex-husband had been very abusive throughout their 13 years of marriage. She said he constantly beat her up with different objects in the house and he once stabbed her on the back with a knife. She said he also used to thrown out her belongings whenever he assaulted her. Mrs Ncube said she separated with him in June and moved out of their home and went to stay alone as she could not take the abuse anymore. She said he however, constantly came to harass her at her home up until she was granted a protection order against him.
Mrs Ncube said she reported her ex-husband to police on several occasions but she would later withdraw the charges after their families intervened and he would have made promises to change his behaviour.
“He would just barge into my home and harass me and order me to come back and live with him but I would refuse. Sometimes he would break into my house while I was asleep at night. He would also threaten me over the phone. Even when he met me in public he would harass me.
I was granted a protection order but that didn’t stop him from coming to harass me up until he burnt my home. I’m really stranded and I don’t know where to start in fixing this house. Those wishing to assist me can contact me on 0777 300 247, right now I could really use all the help I can get,” she said.
Mrs Ncube said her ex-husband was arrested, appeared in court and was remanded in custody.
Ward 28 Councillor, Cde Kidwell Mujuru said he learnt with great sadness about the incident. He said it was alarming how cases of domestic violence continued to escalate with some recording casualties.
“I heard about the incident where a woman from my ward lost her property after her husband set the house on fire. Such cases are worrisome. As a community leader I always teach people about issues of domestic violence and that if faced with disputes couples should seek counselling instead of resorting to violence. People should learn that violence doesn’t solve anything but it rather creates more problems. At least the suspect was arrested and we hope that justice will be served and he will face the consequences of his actions,” he said.- Chronicle
Mwonzora In Trouble For Denigrating Polytechnics
Tinashe Sambiri| The MDC Alliance Students Council has described Mr Douglas Mwonzora’s remarks about polytechnics as reckless and uncouth.
The MDC Alliance Students Council has further castigated Mwonzora for going into overdrive in a bid to please his handlers.
See statement below:
Press Statement on Douglas Mwonzora’s derogatory utterances on polytechnics.
August 11th, 2021
This herald serves to denounce and regret the callous and unrespectable behavior of
segregation and looking down upon polytechnic institutions by the leader of the puppet
MDC-T, Mr. Douglas Togarasei Mwonzora.
On August 8, 2021, responding to constructive criticism by Dr. Pedzisai Ruhanya, Mr.
Mwonzora on his Twitter handle @DMwonzora revealed his barbaric behavior by writing
the following quoted message, “Babamunini ndosaka kuUniversity kuchinzi kunoda
kungoendawo kechi One.
Kwete via Morogoro naChingwenya. Poly yakakukwadzai
Babamunini,” which is derogatory as it is offensive and insulting on polytechnics.
It is a matter of regret and pernicious that a whole senator can make those disgusting
utterances .This clearly spells a short or no exhibition of both the intrinsic and extrinsic
behaviors that makes up leadership. Mr. Mwonzora has disrespected the academic fraternity
of our country by marking an inexistent demarcation between polytechnics and universities.
This calls for the academia and the entire populace of our country to distinguish sanity
exhibited by our leaders and imbecility showcased by those who masquerade to be our
leaders.
We would like to unequivocally make it clear with all due respect and without any aorta of
ambiguity that the only difference between all of the institutions we have in Zimbabwe is
their physical addresses not ranks of superiority. For Zimbabwe to be prosperous, leaders
should have a uniting tongue.

Mental Health : The Facts
FIFA has launched #ReachOut, a campaign designed to raise awareness of the symptoms of mental health conditions, encourage people to seek help when they need it, and take actions every day for better mental health. With the support of past and current football players, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), FIFA is underlining the importance of greater awareness around mental health.
In launching #ReachOut, FIFA President Gianni Infantino, said: “This campaign is very important in raising awareness about mental health conditions and encouraging a conversation which could save a life. In FIFA’s Vision 2020-2023, we pledge our commitment to make football work for society, and I thank the players and Ms Enke, who have contributed to this important initiative.
“Depression and anxiety affect rising numbers of people worldwide, and young people are among the most vulnerable. Having a conversation with family, friends or a healthcare professional can be key. FIFA is proud to launch this campaign, supported by the World Health Organization and ASEAN to encourage people to #ReachOut.”
The campaign hears from FIFA Legends Aline, Vero Boquete, Cafu, Laura Georges, Luis García, Shabani Nonda, Patrizia Panico, Fara Williams and Walter Zenga. FIFA.com also speaks with former Bolton Wanderers and Team GB forward, Marvin Sordell, and Sonny Pike, who was labelled the ‘next big thing’ at 14, about their experiences with depression. Teresa Enke also discusses the pain of losing a loved one to suicide, and her work with the Robert Enke Foundation.
Depression affects more than 260 million people in the world while around half of all mental health conditions start by age 14. Suicide is the fourth leading cause of death in young people aged 15-29. Among active football players, 23 per cent report sleep disturbance, while 9% have reported depression and a further 7% suffer from anxiety. Among retired players, these figures increase, with 28% struggling to sleep and depression and anxiety affecting 13% and 11% respectively (source: FIFPRO)
Working from home, unemployment, school closures and social isolation have affected people around the world during the COVID-19 pandemic; the challenges for people with mental health conditions, for whom access to treatment has, in many cases, been disrupted, are even greater.
“As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, it is as important as ever to look after our mental and physical health,” said Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization.
“WHO is delighted to support the #ReachOut campaign, spearheaded by FIFA to encourage people to talk about their mental health.”
The video awareness campaign features Legends, current players and special guests, who have lent their support to this mental health campaign, and at times sharing their lived experience. The campaign is being shared on FIFA digital channels, with multimedia toolkits provided to the 211 FIFA member associations and to media agencies to facilitate dissemination and use within Europe and beyond.
Meanwhile, players from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam reinforce WHO advice on how to help to keep our minds healthy, as well as our bodies, in the special ASEAN edition of #ReachOut.
Secretary-General of ASEAN Dato Lim Jock Hoi said, “Mental health and well-being are just as important as physical health and safety. Under the Chairmanship of Brunei Darussalam, ASEAN is taking steps to advance cooperation with external partners on mental health, in order to provide the ASEAN Community with the necessary and appropriate mental health and psychosocial support services.”
The World Health Organization (WHO) and FIFA signed a four-year collaboration in 2019 to promote healthy lifestyles through football globally.
The two organisations jointly launched the ‘Pass the message to kick out coronavirus’ campaign in March 2020 to share advice on effective measures to protect people from COVID-19.
This was followed by the #BeActive campaign in April 2020 to encourage people to stay healthy at home during the pandemic, and #SafeHome, a campaign launched to support those at risk from domestic violence, in May 2020. More recently, the two organisations teamed up at the FIFA Club World Cup to #ACTogether to promote the need for fair access to COVID-19 vaccines, treatments and diagnostics, and to encourage people to keep practicing life-saving, everyday public health measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus and to protect health.

Latest COVID-19 Update

Messi Officially Joins PSG
Former Barcelona captain Lionel Messi has agreed to join Paris Saint Germain (PSG) on a two-year contract with the option of another year after leaving the Catalans.
The deal is worth £25m per year after tax with PSG.
The 34-year-old will receive a £25m signing-on fee.
Messi was set to sign a new five-year contract at Barcelona but the club was unable to complete the deal due to LaLiga financial fair play rules.
The six-time Ballon d’Or winner is travelling to Paris Tuesday afternoon to seal his move to the French club where he is likely to partner Neymar and Kylian Mbape in the attack.
The move puts Paul Pogba’s potential move to the French Ligue 1 giants in jeopardy considering that they also signed Sergio Ramos (former Real Madrid captain), Georginio Wijnaldum (former Liverpool midfielder), Gianluigi Donnarumma (former AC Milan goalkeeper), and Achraf Hakimi (former Real Madrid and Inter Milan defender).
While the transfers were free, PSG’s wage bill will be bloated.

Visitor Beats Up Wife At Friend’s House, Knives Restrainer
By A Correspondent- A man who had visited his friend with his wife caused a scene at his friend’s house as he ran berserk and beat his wife over an undisclosed issue and stabbed a man who tried to restrain him from further assaulting his wife.
The dramatic incident happened on Sunday at around 8 pm in Bulawayo’s Hillcrest suburb, lasting for about 15 minutes.
A source close to the case said when Arnold Chiturumani (31) was at the gate leaving for his home with his wife Shanaaz Chiketa (29), Akem Manyika (40) heard screams at the entrance and rushed to see what was happening.
He found Chiketa crying, and upon asking her, she told him that Chiturumani had bashed her over an undisclosed issue. Manyika intervened and calmed them down and returned to his bedroom, and retired to bed.
After a few minutes, Manyika heard loud cries from outside and rushed there and found Chiturumani punching his wife. He tried to restrain him, but he charged towards him and violently pushed him against the gate in the grip of intense emotion.
“He fumbled in his pocket and drew an Okapi knife and stabbed him in the left forefinger while he was trying to evade the knife. He warned him not to intervene in his marital issues and threatened to kill him,” said a privy source.
Manyika reported the matter at Hillside Police Station, leading to the arrest of Chiturumani.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident: “I can confirm that we have arrested a man who assaulted his wife over an undisclosed issue at his friend’s house and also stabbed his friend who was restraining him from further assaulting his wife. We would like to urge couples to solve their marital differences amicably rather than to take the law into their own hands. They should engage third parties such as pastors or elders in the community.” — BMetro

The President of Zimbabwe Centre For Equal Opportunities “ZCEO” a Civic Society Organisation Mr Paddington Japa Japa is urging the Government of Zimbabwe to Urgently Ask Parliament to investigate all cases of Statutory Rape and Tenage Girl Child Marriages, that are privately taking place, at the Occultic Marange Apostolic and other Shrines around Zimbabwe. There are Serious Girl Child rights abuse cases that go unnoticed at many Occultic Apostolic Shrines around Zimbabwe, which the Government must institute urgent thorough investigations, and recommend correct remedial measures.

Such Teenage Girl Child marriages and abuses are not only perculiar to Johane Marange Sect, but at many other Mapositori Shrines around Zimbabwe.
As a Civic Society Organization which fight for the rights of the Marginalised and Oppressed in Society, we condemn with all the force we can master, such brutal, uncivilized barbaric treatment, perpetrated to the Girl Child by these fake Prophets. One such case of statutory rape and Teenage Marriage, perpetrated on an innocent Minor, 14 year old Memory Machaya from Marange, must not go unpunished. The fake Prophet who raped and married that minor including the other Sect members who are trying to defeat the course of justice must all be heavily punished. Government can either ask Parliament to Investigate or either the President appointing a Commission of Inquiry composed of ZRP CID officers and Health experts to thoroughly investigate this and many other cases of similar nature.Such cases of tenage girl child marriages have been reported over centuries in Zimbabwe, but the Government has not taken any wholesome action to deter would be offenders.Members of the Apostolic Sect have been accused on several occasions of tenage Girl child marriages, rape and denying their own children access to Medical facilities, for their weird occultic beliefs. The Ministry of Health and Childcare officials have never taken any serious remedial action. Many children of Parents belonging to various Mapositori Sect have died due to lack of vaccination against diseases like Measles, Polio etc.

The Apostolic Sect Members in Zimbabwe and around the world believe in teenage Girl Child marriages Practices, Polygamism, and denying their children access to Medical facilities like vaccination against viral diseases that need Profilactic treatment. The Government through Parliament must put a Stop to such evil and barbaric practices by imposing very stiff penalties for the offenders, and any accessory who aid such crimes.Civic Society Organizations,ZRP Public Relations Officers,Health Officials,Social Welfare Officers,Chiefs,Headman,Members of Parliament etc must go on a Country wide blitz educating Society, especially rural families to desist from teenage Girl child marriages. It pains every normal thinking Zimbabwean except the Perpetrators of Memory Machaya’s painful departure from this world into the realm of the dead, the manner in which she died, her death could have been avoided had she been rushed to a Hospital and an Operation carried out by Specialist Surgeons.

MDC Alliance Students Council Blasts Mwonzora For Insulting Polytechnics

Major Blow To OpenView Users Outside South Africa
By A Correspondent| Popular free-to-air satellite TV provider OpenView which offers a range of channels like eTV, SABC, France 24 and more has announced plans to block its decoders currently being used outside South Africa saying it does not have license to do so.
In an interview with a local online media outlet, OpenView said it is not authorized to offer services to Zimbabwe and other countries.
“Currently Openview has a license to only operate in South Africa. Meaning, we are not authorized to extend our service outside the borders of the Republic of South Africa. We are hoping to expand to other African countries at a later stage, but at this point we are more focused on growing our South African Viewership. For now we have taken a decision to block decoders being used outside our legal jurisdiction,” said OpenView.
Mmusi Maimane Says Zim Heroes Died For Nothing
South African opposition politician Mmusi Maimane yesterday said Zimbabwean heroes who sacrificed their lives during and after the liberation struggle, should be turning in their graves over the way the country was being destroyed by corrupt cartels linked to President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration.
Maimane’s tweet irked Mnangagwa’s aide who hit back, labelling him a sellout.
In his post, Maimane said: “The heroes who died for Zimbabwe are turning in their graves. Their spirits are restless.”
In another tweet, he said: “No one gave their life away hoping for an evil, corrupt regime of thieves led by Mnangagwa. They did not die for self-inflicted poverty. The heroes of Zimbabwe have been betrayed.”
The southern African country celebrated its Defence Forces Day yesterday.
Maimane, a former Democratic Alliance leader, who formed One South Africa Movement last year, is critical of the Harare administration.
He has been a critic of Mnangagwa’s administration, saying it is destroying the economy and perpetrating human rights abuses.
Last year, he led a social media campaign, #ZimbabweanLivesMatter, protesting against the deteriorating human rights situation in the country. This was after the arrest of journalist Hopewell Chin’ono and opposition Transform Zimbabwe leader Jacob Ngarivhume.
Some leaders within the South African ruling party, African National Congress have also condemned Zanu PF for failing to handle Zimbabwe’s political and economic affairs professionally.
“The heroes are buried and the hyenas laugh as they feast on the carcass of a once great nation. My heart really bleeds when I think about how African leaders have destroyed their nations and walk around arrogantly using the names of those who died for it,” Maimane wrote.
“The wolves stole the nation and they have been feeding on the people for 41 years. We must not forget the various African leaders who helped the oppression to continue.
“Zanu PF did not do this alone. It was the silence and complicity of African leaders, here in South Africa and other African nations which gave them the confidence to continue crushing the people.” Maimane said he would not tire of speaking on behalf of the people of Zimbabwe whose freedom of expression is limited.
Mnangagwa’s spokesperson George Charamba immediately responded to Maimane on Twitter, curtly referring to him as a sellout.
“Listen to this sellout,” Charamba tweeted.

MISA To Observe Zambian Elections
By A Correspondent| MISA Regional Secretariat has dispatched a delegation to observe the media and freedom of expression landscape during the Zambian elections in line with the lobby and advocacy body’s mission to strengthen regional solidarity and coordination as defined by its mission and vision statements.
Zambia will hold its elections on 12 August 2021.
The mission, led by the Chairperson of the MISA Regional Governing Council (RGC), Golden Maunganidze, comprises RGC members from Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania and Zimbabwe.
Based on the findings of the observer mission, MISA will submit its report and recommendations to the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR) Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Expression and Access to Information in Africa, the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Secretariat, the African Union and United Nations.
In addition, this mission will also inform future observer missions and lobby and advocacy efforts ahead of elections in the region, starting with Lesotho which goes to the polls in 2022.
Furthermore, MISA will use this mission to meet with other like-minded organisations operating in Zambia to strengthen regional coordination and networking to entrench freedom of expression, media freedom, democratic internet governance and privacy in the region.
Meetings with Zambian government officials are also planned.
The mission to Zambia comes at a time when regional governments are seemingly heightening and tightening the noose on freedom of expression, particularly free expression online.
Recently, the Zambian government enacted the Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes Act, which has been described as having a “chilling effect on freedom of expression, media freedom and Zambians’ right to privacy”.
Similar laws are being enacted across the region. Furthermore, Zambia is one of the countries in the region that is yet to enact an access to information law.
This raises the need for organisations such as MISA, to continue engaging the Zambian government with the hope of improving the freedom of the media and information landscape in that country.
In that regard, MISA’s elections observer mission to Zambia will serve as a platform for evidence-based lobby and advocacy.

AU Deploys Election Observers To Zambia As Lungu Battles It Out With Hichilema
The Africa Union (AU) has approved the deployment of a Short-Term Election Observation (STO) Mission to Zambia to observe the country’s general elections scheduled to take place on 12 August 2021.
In a statement on 4 August, the AU said the STO Mission is led by former Sierra Leone President Ernest Bai Koroma and composed of former and current African ambassadors accredited to Ethiopia, members of election management bodies in Africa, members of civil society organisations, and independent electoral experts.
The statement read in part:
The Mission’s objective is to provide an independent and impartial assessment of all aspects of the 2021 electoral process, including the legal framework, the political context and the transparency and effectiveness of the electoral preparations, and will operate in accordance with relevant AU and international standards and obligations for democratic elections such as the 2007 African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance; the 2002 AU/OAU Declaration on Principles Governing Democratic Elections in Africa; 2002 the AU Guidelines for Elections Observation and Monitoring Missions.
Zambia holds elections amid soaring food prices and economic hardships, high inflation and ballooning external debt.
The copper-rich southern African nation last year became the first country on the continent to default on its debt in the coronavirus era.
The upcoming election is expected to be the tightest contest yet between incumbent Edgar Lungu (64) and his longstanding rival, main opposition candidate and sixth-time-runner Hakainde Hichilema (59).
In the 2016 election, Lungu emerged victorious with 50.35 per cent of the presidential ballots, just enough to avoid a second-round run-off, and Hichilema came a close second on 47.63 per cent.
Greyhound Buses Goes Under The Hammer
Greyhound and Citiliner buses will go under the auctioneer’s hammer in September, seven months after the iconic bus company ended its 37-year relationship with South Africa.
Greyhound – and its semi-luxury division, Citiliner – completed its last South African trip on 14 February. Greyhound and Citiliner buses, operated by Unitrans, carried millions of passengers between South Africa’s big and small cities since 1984.
But diminishing revenue, brought about by heightened competition in the low-cost city-to-city market, put Unitrans’ consumer-facing business on the back foot. In 2020, the company, a subsidiary of logistics giant KAP Industrial Holdings, announced that it planned to dispose of Greyhound and focus on its core competencies of transporting freight.
The Covid-19 pandemic, which halted travel during hard lockdown, was the final nail in Greyhound’s coffin. Less than a year later, hundreds of Greyhound employees were served with retrenchment notices and buses stopped running.
To claw back some money, Greyhound’s rolling stock will be auctioned off on 15 September, almost exactly seven months after transporting its last passengers.
“There is a total of 66 buses [on auction]. They are divided into four lots, and each lot will also include six trailers. The Greyhound and Citiliner brands and logos will also be offered, as well as a huge variety of spares in Cape Town and Midrand respectively,” Johan van Eyk of Van’s Auctioneers told Business Insider South Africa.
Interested buyers won’t be able to bid on individual assets. There is an option to buy all the lots, lock, stock, and barrel. To be a part of the auction, bidders will need to pay R500,000 upfront as a refundable deposit.
Almost half of all the vehicles on auction are double-decker buses which served as Greyhound’s luxury “Dreamliner” fleet. Most buses on auction are based on the Volvo B11R Euro and can seat between 60 and 65 passengers.
The “huge quantity of spares” include bus trimmings, seats, and engine parts.
If the entire auction is bought lock, stock, and barrel, the successful bidder has an opportunity to revive the Greyhound brand in South Africa, with local operating permits included in the deal.
“We”re not selling the booking platform or things like that… it’s the assets, which is primarily the buses, or, if you want to buy the whole thing, you can also use the names and the brand going forward,” said Van Eyk.
There is no reserve price or minimum bid on the lots and the sellers have 14 days after the auction to decide whether they accept the bid, added Van Eyk.

ED frets Over Rogue Soldiers, Police Officers
By A Correspondent- President Emmerson Mnangagwa is fretting over a rise in the number of armed robberies involving soldiers and police officers, with observers saying it is tantamount to a mutiny.
Mnangagwa promised to immediately address the welfare of soldiers whose welfare was seriously impacted by poor remuneration and working conditions over years.
He made the claims during the Zimbabwe Defence Forces Day celebrations in Harare yesterday.
Mnangagwa warned rogue elements in the security sector against being involved in criminal activities.
“Yours is a noble profession, you must, therefore, avoid association and acts that put to shame our security institutions,” Mnangagwa warned.
“You as officers, men and women of the ZDF (Zimbabwe Defence Forces) should never be entangled in criminal activities.”
The country has experienced a rise in cases of soldiers and police officers being involved in armed robberies and other criminal activities in the past months. Some of those implicated fall under the Presidential Guard.
Observers say the rise in cases of unruly behaviour by members of the security forces was an indictment on Mnangagwa whose government is paying them slave wages.
Although soldiers and police offices are paid more than other civil servants, their salaries have been eroded by inflation, forcing some of them into crime to supplement their income.
Most military men and women, who helped Mnangagwa to wrest power from the late former President Robert Mugabe in a November 2017 coup, are also struggling.
But Mnangagwa yesterday promised to address their welfare.
“On the welfare side, my government is committed to improve the conditions of service of the ZDF members,” Mnangagwa said.
“Meanwhile, I challenge the ZDF administration to accelerate the completion of accommodation projects underway at Imbizo, Dzivarasekwa and Jason Ziyaphapha Moyo barracks.”
Last year, Defence minister Oppah Muchinguri admitted that soldiers were engaging in criminal activities at the country’s ports of entry, attributing such behaviour to low morale due to the deteriorating economic situation in the country.
She also spoke of a shortage of necessities in barracks, including food and transport.
Mnangagwa said his government would equip the ZDF with modern technologies to enable them to ward off domestic and international threats.
“My administration will thus continue to equip the defence forces with reliable means and technological capacities towards defending our dignity, sovereignty and territorial integrity as well as advancing our legitimate economic development interests at home and abroad,” he said.
The Airforce of Zimbabwe (AFZ) has been struggling with antiquated flying equipment owing to lack of investments into its hangar since independence.
Over the past two months, the AFZ lost two of its old helicopters in separate crashes, one of them fatal.
Mnangagwa said the army should be alive to any sinister moves.
“In this context, any sinister activities or clandestine machinations aimed at derailing and undermining national security will be exposed and perpetrators appropriately dealt with,” Mnangagwa said.
Although accused by most Western countries and in a number of United Nations reports of violating human rights and using the army to quash opposing voices in a shrinking Zimbabwean democracy, Mnangagwa said his regime respected peace.
“We are a peaceful nation and a God-fearing people who uphold the international peace, justice and the rule of law as anchors for a prosperous global world and shared future,” he said.-Newsday
ZUPCO Drivers Protest Over Non-Payment Of Salaries
ZUPCO kombi drivers reportedly staged a defiant demonstration over non-payment of salaries at ZUPCO Kelvin depot in Bulawayo on Wednesday.
According to online publication CITE, ZUPCO managers arrived at the depot and the District Operations Manager, Tinaye Rwasoka told the drivers that they will receive their two months-worth of salaries on Wednesday afternoon at 2 pm.
The drivers are said to have told the management that they will not leave their depot till they get their salaries.
“ZUPCO kombi drivers are currently holding a peaceful demo against salary issues, at ZUPCO Kelvin depot in Bulawayo,” reads a tweet from CITE.
Earlier this month, ZUPCO regional operational manager Tito Chirau said operators will start getting the payments on the 4th of August.
“We are receiving a payment from the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development tomorrow and then we will make all the payments to private operators,” Chirau told the media. “We are encouraging our private operators to continue working as usual providing transport to our citizens.
“There have been delays but they will all receive their payments by the end of this week,” he said.

17 Wedding Guests Struck By Lightning
By A Correspondent- A day that started as a celebration for newlyweds turned fatal after 17 wedding guests were struck and killed by lightning in Bangladesh on Wednesday, 4 August.
According to BBC, the groom and 14 other people were injured.
It is reported that the bride was not with the guests when the incident occurred.
“The party was disembarking from a boat at the riverside town of Shibganj, heading towards the bride’s house when they were caught in a thunderstorm,” the article read.
The locals told officials that several bolts of lightning hit the group.
In South Asia, hundreds of people are killed by lightning every year.
According to Dhaka Tribune, 2 164 people were killed in lightning strikes in Bangladesh from 2011 to last year.
However, the numbers are thought to be higher as many deaths are not officially recorded.
Some experts have blamed the removal of forest trees, saying it played a role in the rising number of deadly lightning strikes.

Police Officer Killed By Armed Robbers
By A Correspondent- A policeman was shot and killed on Monday night by suspected robbers in Luveve in Bulawayo, while an armed robber believed to be part of a syndicate operating from South Africa was shot and killed in the city centre in a separate shoot-out.
On Monday night, Constable Gibson Tafara Madzimure (35) was in the group of police officers reacting to a robbery in Luveve when he was shot and killed by armed robbers.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said a manhunt for the robbers has since been launched.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police sadly reports the death of Constable Gibson Tafara Madzimure who was shot by armed robbers after reacting to a robbery case in Luveve suburb, Bulawayo.
“The Commissioner General of Police, Tandabantu Godwin Matanga, expresses his heartfelt condolences to the Madzimure family on the untimely death of Constable Gibson Tafara Madzimure.
“Police will leave no stone unturned until all culprits involved in the death of Constable Madzimure are brought to book,” he said.
In the second shootout of the night, Asst Comm Nyathi said the suspected armed robber, whose name was still being withheld, died in a shootout with police while he was driving an unregistered VW Golf in Bulawayo.
“Police reacted to an attempted robbery where an illegal forex dealer was being tracked by an armed robbery syndicate which had travelled all the way from South Africa.
“Police intercepted the suspects at Unity Village, Corner Joshua Nkomo Street and Sixth Avenue, Bulawayo, and in the process a shootout ensued leading to the death of one of the suspects at the scene.
“The other suspects ran away and the police recovered a Star pistol with 9mm x six rounds of ammunition, CZ pistol with a magazine of 10 rounds and a VW Golf motor vehicle with no number plates,” he said.
Asst Comm Nyathi said police have intensified the war on armed robbers in the country.
“There is no going back to the police’s efforts in getting rid of all armed robbery syndicates and ensure that the law takes its course,” he said.
On Saturday, six armed robbers were involved in a shootout with police in Bulawayo and believed to be part of a gang that raided Choppies Parklands Supermarket and Access Finance in the city, getting away with nearly US$300 000 and R1 million.
Police identified the six-armed robbers as Anorld Mpofu alias Tsano (39) and Thamsanqa Mpofu, who were killed on the scene, while Nomore Hove (39), Nkosilathi Ncube (42) were injured. Brian Nkomo (31) and Mthokozisi Moyo (37) make up the rest of those arrested.
The suspected armed robbers were killed during a shootout with police who had cornered them during an attempted robbery at a house in Four Winds suburb in Bulawayo.
Police said the armed robbers also came from South Africa.
The suspects are responsible for two highly organised armed robberies in Bulawayo in March and May this year.
The first one occurred on March 10 at Access Finance Bureau de Change where US$246 682, R947 169, P1 000, EURO 100 and $11 404 cash were stolen and the other case, which occurred on May 27, at Choppies Supermarket Parklands, Bulawayo in which $194 287, US$11 315, R35 595 and P250 cash was stolen.
During the robberies, the suspects disarmed private security guards at Access Finance and Choppies showing how organised they were.
Following an increase in armed robberies, police changed tactics and deployed specialised units to armed robbery hotspots across the country. They also engaged the business community and private security companies as a measure to reverse the increase in armed robberies.

The Gumbura I Knew Was Different From The One Portrayed In The Media, Says Madhuku
By Effort Manono| National Constitutional Assembly (NCA) leader Professor Lovemore Madhuku has described the late RMG End Time Message leader Robert Martin Gumbura as a loving and caring man with people at heart.
Addressing mourners during the burial of the late polygamist yesterday, Madhuku confessed that he got to know the real Gumbura who is different from the one portrayed in the media after he was approached to represent him in court.
”The Robert Gumbura i know is different from the Robert Gumbura we read from the newspapers. The media created their own Robert Gumbura who is totally different from the one we are mourning today,” said Madhuku.

“The real Gumbura had a good heart, he was loving. That is the Robert Gumbura I am here to pay my last respect to.
“I know after saying this, some will ask which Gumbura are you talking about because they have their own Robert Gumbura created in their minds,” added Madhuku.
He spoke about the Supreme Court appeal he was due to file on behalf of Gumbura saying it had bigger prospects of success as his rape allegations were fictitious.
“After reading his rape allegations, it was so touching because the allegations were nothing but a fiction. We then took the matter to the supreme court for the matter to be heard which is referred to as leave to appeal, and be reminded Leave to appeal is only given when they see the prospects of success.
“As Lovemore Madhuku, I have no doubt in my mind that Gumbura was going to be set free by the Supreme Court.

“I am here to say there were some wrongs done to this man. You must forget everything and mourn your father, your brother, your husband who was a nice person,” added Madhuku.
Gumbura succumbed to COVID-19 at Chikurubi Maximum Prison Hospital.
He was sentenced to an effective 40 years in jail but Madhuku fought for the sentence to be reduced to 20. He was due to be released in less that five years.
ZUPCO Kombi Drivers Stage Demo
By A Correspondent- ZUPCO kombi drivers reportedly staged a defiant demonstration over non-payment of salaries at ZUPCO Kelvin depot in Bulawayo on Wednesday.
According to online publication CITE, ZUPCO managers arrived at the depot and the District Operations Manager, Tinaye Rwasoka told the drivers that they will receive their two months-worth of salaries on Wednesday afternoon at 2 pm.
“Mugabe Bribed The MDC T Stalwarts With High Offices, Making Them Forget Reforms”
By Wilbert Mukori- “’Those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it.’” argued Nicholas Clairmont in Big Think.
“The quote is most likely due to writer and philosopher George Santayana, and in its original form it read, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”
“The sentiment that history repeats aspires to common sense and is hard to disagree with.”
In Zimbabwe, we are certainly caught in the vortexes of history repeating itself not so much from having the historic facts presented to us in a silver platter and failing to learn from them but rather from being bamboozled with bullshit!
Zimbabwe has more than her fair share of citizens who have taken to heart the aphorism “If you cannot dazzle them with brilliance baffle them with bullshit!” Dr Alex Magaisa is one such Zimbabwean academic whose regular contributions on various media platforms is nothing but brainwashing bullshit!
“One might have thought that he (Emmerson Mnangagwa) used the long period of political apprenticeship (37 years) to identify the errors to be avoided if ever he got an opportunity to lead. However, nearly four years since grabbing power in a coup that toppled his long-time boss, Robert Mugabe, Emmerson Mnangagwa has struggled to uplift Zimbabwe from the depths of poverty, and citizens remain under the yoke of political repression. The average Zimbabwean is no better today than he was when Mnangagwa took office in those heady days of November 2017.” Started, well enough, Dr Magaisa in his article in The News Hawks.
Dr Magaisa went on to describe the events leading to the November 2017 military coup that toppled Mugabe and Mnangagwa’s fight to consolidate his hold on power.
“The death of Morgan Tsvangirai, the popular opposition leader who had given Mugabe sleepless nights, led him to believe that the MDC would be a much-diminished opponent,” continued Magaisa. “He was also wrong on this count. The youthful Nelson Chamisa, who succeeded Tsvangirai went on to win more votes in a presidential election than his illustrious predecessor. It was even more remarkable because he did so on a shoe-string budget and with very little time to campaign since Tsvangirai died in February with the election just 5 months away.
“In the end, the election brought more trouble than he had anticipated. It did not resolve the legitimacy question, especially as his main rival refused to give the elusive loser’s consent because he maintained that the election had been rigged for Mnangagwa. This dispute has hung like a cloud over Mnangagwa’s first term even after the Constitutional Court ruled in his favour.”
Of course, this is all nonsense, a far cry from the historic facts.
Number one, when the SADC and AU leaders joined the rest of the international community and refused to accept Mugabe and his Zanu PF party as the legitimate government following the blatant cheating and wanton violence of the 2008 elections, it marked the beginning of the most trying five years in Mugabe’s chaotic and turbulent political life.
SADC leaders forced Mugabe to sign the 2008 Global Political Agreement, agreeing to the implementation of the raft of democratic reforms designed to dismantle the Zanu PF dictatorship. The task of implementing the reforms was given to Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends.
Mugabe bribed the MDC leaders with the trappings of high office; the ministerial limos, the very generous salaries and allowances, a US$4 million mansion for Tsvangirai, etc. Of course, he was worried that the bribes would not be enough to buy-off all the MDC leaders to stop them implementing the reforms; it did.
But not even Mugabe would have dared to believe his bribes would stop MDC leaders implementing the reforms for the five years of the GNU, particularly given the constant nagging by SADC leaders reminding Tsvangirai and company to implement the reforms. Still, it is a historic fact that MDC leaders failed to implement even one democratic reform in five years of the 2008 to 2013 GNU.
It was only thanks to MDC leaders who proved to be corrupt and hopelessly incompetent that Mugabe and his Zanu PF party emerged from the GNU with all the dictatorial powers intact. Only a village idiot like Dr Magaisa would suggest a corrupt and breathtakingly incompetent Morgan Tsvangirai gave Mugabe sleepless nights!
Two, Mnangagwa is a buffoon who got very lucky; the probability of the 200 or so MDC leaders being so incompetent they would not implement even one reform in the five years of the GNU. And, typical of all buffoons who find themselves thrust with power and authority, Mnangagwa believes he is Lord God Almighty’s gift to humanity. What he lacked in intellectual vigour more than made up for in self-confidence. Mnangagwa never doubted his “Zimbabwe is open for business!” mantra would fail to open the flood gates of investors and kick-start the comatose Zimbabwe economy.
As we know, investors are shrewd and savvy lot; they were not going to be fooled into believing the musical chair changes in Zanu PF brought on by the military coup was enough to transform the pariah state into a healthy and functional democracy. “Zimbabwe is open for business!” was still born; not even one serious investor gave it so much as a nibble.
Mnangagwa is a buffoon but credit where credit is due, he was smart enough to know, to stay in power, he had no choice but to rig the 2018 elections and to get away with it, to get political legitimacy, needed the opposition to participate in election. He blatantly rigged the 2018 elections, as any election observer readily testified.
“The electoral commission (Zimbabwe Election Commission, ZEC) lacked full independence and appeared to not always act in an impartial manner,” stated the scathing 240 member EU Election Observer Mission final report.
“The final results as announced by the Electoral Commission contained numerous errors and lacked adequate traceability, transparency and verifiability. Finally, the restrictions on political freedoms, the excessive use of force by security forces and abuses of human rights in the post-election period undermined the corresponding positive aspects during the pre-election campaign. As such, many aspects of the 2018 elections in Zimbabwe failed to meet international standards.”
But all that counted for nothing given the sheer enthusiasm and passion shown by Zimbabwe’s opposition camp; there were 23 candidates in the presidential rat race alone. The results could not be traced or verified because ZEC failed to produce something as basic as a verified voters’ roll, a legal and common-sense requirement.
David Coltart, an MDC Minister during the GNU and now an MDC A senator, admitted in his 2016 book, The Struggle Continues 50 years of Tyranny in Zimbabwe, that Zimbabwe’s opposition should not be participating in the country’s flawed elections.
“The worst aspect for me about the failure to agree a coalition was that both MDCs couldn’t now do the obvious – withdraw from the (2013) elections,” wrote Senator Coltart.
“The electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility.”
Four of the main MDC factions did form the MDC Alliance coalition before the 2018 elections and they, regardless, went on to participate in the 2018 elections for the same reason as in 2013 – greed! Zanu PF is giving away a few gravy-train seats to entice the opposition to participate in elections regardless how flawed and illegal the process happens to be.
Right now, Mnangagwa is gearing for the 2023 elections; with not even one token reform in place, no verified voters’ roll, etc.; Zanu PF is set to rig the elections. For their part, Nelson Chamisa and the rest of the opposition are set to participate in the flawed elections and thus give the vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy. History is set to repeat itself.
Of course, Nelson Chamisa knows that without reforms Mnangagwa will rig the elections, that by participating he will give Mnangagwa legitimacy and that he is doing out of selfish greed – these are all well-established historic fact.
Dr Alex Magaisa’s articles are lies designed to brainwash the ordinary Zimbabweans into believing Nelson Chamisa and his MDC friends will deliver the democratic changes the nation has been dying for. The historic reality is, MDC leaders have failed to deliver even one change in 21 years, 5 of which in the GNU and, worst of all, they are now giving legitimacy to the vote rigging Zanu PF by participating in flawed elections!
Like it or not Zimbabwe’s desperate economic and political situation has left many Zimbabweans desperate for change and desperate people do desperate things including believing lies and damned lies. People like Dr Magaisa are bombarding the nation with the damned lie that Chamisa will win the rigged 2023 elections.
The most Chamisa will do is win most of few gravy-train seats offered as bait and retain the bragging rights as leader of Zimbabwe’s opposition party – a far cry for the real change, regime change, the nation has been dying for!
After 41 years of Zanu PF rigging elections and getting away with it; this is one historic reality we must know and understand by now and one we must be smart enough not to repeat.
(Dr Alex Magaisa is a lecturer at Kent Law School in UK was the late Morgan Tsvangirai, the Prime Minister’s Special Advisor in the last year of the 2008 to 2013 GNU. Some special advisor he turned out to be, given MDC blundered from pillar to post and failed to implement even one token reform!)

Zimbabwean Wins Johannesburg Mayoral Elections
By News24 | Jolidee Matongo has been elected unopposed as new executive mayor of the City of Johannesburg, the metro announced on Tuesday.
The 269 councillors in the metro did not submit any other names and as per the Municipal Structures Act, in the case that there was only one nominee, that person automatically assumed the position.
A special council sitting was called on Tuesday by Speaker of the Johannesburg council, the ANC’s Nonceba Molwele.
The ANC has 124 seats in the council and needed 12 votes from other parties to install Matongo as their mayoral choice – he welcomed the uncontested nomination and promised to hit the ground running as new mayor.
He said first on his agenda as mayor was selecting a new mayoral committee, as the previous structure was dissolved due to Geoff Makhubo’s death.
According to Matongo, the new mayoral committee “will be announced at the next council sitting” – expected to be in two weeks time “after consultations” with the ANC’s alliance partners in the metro, the IFP, the UDM, Cope, the African Independent Congress and Al Jama-ah.
In adherence with Level three Covid-19 regulations, the 269 councillors were at different venues during the sitting, with some present at the council chambers, while other members took part in the proceedings from the Mandela Theatre.
Members of the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) where present to facilitate the voting process, but given the uncontested nature, Matongo was announced as new mayor without any voting process.
The 46-year-old, Soweto-born former student activist takes over after Makhubo’s death last month.
Matongo served as the MMC for Finance under Makhubo. He had risen through the ranks, from serving as a member of the Soweto Student Congress and the Congress of South African Students (Cosas) before moving on to serve as the regional head of communications in the ANC for eight years.
Matongo holds various qualifications from different institutions, including a Diploma in Public Management, a post graduate degree in Public Management from Unisa, a post graduate Diploma in Management from Milpark Business School and was currently pursuing his masters degree in Public Management with Mancosa.
“As an experienced public servant, comrade Matongo has served the people of South Africa in various public sector spaces such as the position he held at Census project in 2001 as the national trainer, project manager for the Management Schools Training Programs (MSTP). He has worked as an operations manager at housing department at CoJ, head of youth development programmes for the City,” the City said in a statement.
Zodwa In “Adultery” Confession Storm
By A Correspondent- Controversial South African socialite, Zodwa Wabantu has publicly announced having intimacy with fellow local entertainer Thabo Mabogwane of Black Motion.
She said the two were s*x partners.
Zodwa revealed that to Daily Sun, Monday after a video surfaced, where she told TV personality Lasizwe Dambuza that she had intimacy with Thabo.
In the video, Lasizwe is heard asking Zodwa about the person she recently went home with after “ebumnandini” (going out).
Zodwa replied: “The famous person that I had sx with I think three weeks ago was Thabo of Black Motion. Yes, we had sx. It’s not a secret. Apparently he has a girlfriend but that’s none of my business.”
Zodwa, whose real name is Zodwa Libram, said she is not in a relationship with Thabo, but they are just sex partners.

“Yes siyanyobana (we are having sex). Its not a secret. If it’s a secret, that would mean that I’m doing something dirty. Why would I make that a secret? I’m not having s*x with a married man like other girls do. Thabo is not married,” said Zodwa.
She said Thabo never told her about his girlfriend.
“That is why I’m saying ‘apparently’ in a video because Thabo did not tell me that he had a girlfriend. We never sat down and talked. We are just enjoying the moment and have s*x,” said Zodwa.
She further said that after she announced in public that she had s*x with Thabo, Thabo didn’t mention anything about it.
“What would he say? He didn’t say anything after he saw the video. As I said, it’s not a secret that I’m having sex with him,” said Zodwa.
Speaking about the trending incident, Thabo confirmed that he slept with Zodwa Wabantu. He posted a video to explain the whole thing.
“I was also not seeing anyone else at the time hence I did what I did, please respect the mother of my child, it is fine if you judge me, I don’t care,” he said.
Daily Sun also reached out to Black Motion’s booking manager Lerato Mothobi who said they are not commenting on the matter.

City Council To Demolish Church Buildings
The Bulawayo City Council (BCC) has announced plans to demolish several church buildings in the city for not adhering to the local authority’s building standards.
This was revealed in the BCC latest council report, which stated that about 16 churches, mostly in Cowdray Park and Entumbane high-density suburbs were issued with demolition notices.
The demolition notices have also been sent to residents who failed to comply with the city’s model building by-laws. The council said most of the targeted structures were built without approval.
“The department of housing and community services has carried out routine inspections around the city,” part of the report read.
The report also provided a table detailing the targeted structures. Some of the churches which are facing demolition include Tebernacles of God, Marimba Church of God, Bathseda Church of Zion, Masimba Apostolic Church and Assembles of God Church.
Other churches that face a similar fate include Sangano Revapositori Church and Jesus Promotion Ministries, among others.
The city’s director of housing and community services, Dictor Khumalo said no construction should be done in the city without approved plans and requisite inspections.
“As such, the developments should be regularised if they meet all council by-laws and policies subject to relevant penalties being paid,” he said.
The director said the affected churches had been given a 21-day notice to rectify the structures.
“If no corrective action is taken, penalties will be charged and where appropriate, demolition procedures instituted.”
Recently, council condemned 51 buildings in the city centre after they were adjudged to be dilapidated and posing a danger to inhabitants and passers-by.
In terms of sections 48 and section 49 of the Model Buildings By-Laws, 1977, section 214 of the Bulawayo (Buildings, Roads and Streets) By-Laws 1971, council is empowered to demolish structures deemed unfit or built without approval. -Newsday
Robbers Gun Down Policeman
A policeman was shot and killed on Monday night by suspected robbers in Luveve in Bulawayo, while an armed robber believed to be part of a syndicate operating from South Africa was shot and killed in the city centre in a separate shoot-out.
There is no going back to the police’s efforts in getting rid of all armed robbery syndicates and ensure that the law takes its course,” he said.
-Herald

HMRC Tax Refund Scam, How To Spot It

If you ever receive an email claiming to be coming from the HMRC, the first thing you need to check is the address of the sender, if it is genuinely from the revenue service. Do not click any links that take you away from that email to some website before you have fully and absolutely verified that it is an authentic correspondence.
Here is the biggest scare: even an email address that tells you that it is coming from @hmrc.gov.uk, can be coming from the lowest pit of hell, and disguised as something real, when it is nothing close to that. Email addresses can be spoofed up, to appear like they are coming from a familiar person. This trick is known as spoofing.
So what if I click, what do I loose? You can loose everything on your account as the website you land on can be infected with hackware (malicious software) that jumps out onto your computer and steals anything between data and money.
An email such as the one below is from a hacker.
So how do I avoid this? You may ask. The simple method you can adopt is that of deleting any such email, and cross checking any detail with that which is registered in your HMRC online account, whence all and any communications are saved. If the email copy is not in your online account it can only be fake. DO NOT OPEN, DELETE AND BLOCK, is the advisory we can give today. Email example:

Java is Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s social media frontrunner.
“I am not trying to be violent but I am just here to share my ordinary observations.
So after calling for people to pay $210 so that they can fast, here is the supposed to be “Chief Faster” leading others in practically feasting during the same period of fasting.
Most probably the money being used for the lunch has been drawn from what the unsuspecting victims paid to fast.
A thief simply stealing through religion,” Obey Sithole argued.

Mnangagwa Makes Sense By Ordering Army To Stop Gun-Crime?

By Farai D Hove | After ordering the Zimbabwe army to gun down 1 Aug and other victims, killing 25 people and raping 50 women, ZANU PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa has advised soldiers not to commit gun crimes.
The shooting dead of 6 civilians on 1 Aug 2018, alone, cost the country USD16 Billion in losses, according to data at the Finance Ministry.
Mnangagwa is the one who masterminded the 1 August 2018, which was done for the purpose of changing the election result, as announced by his own office 8 months before, and personally confirmed in official communication to Parliament by him on the 8th March 2019.
A year later on the 3rd Jan 2020, Mnangagwa told the people of Kuwadzana that he will redeploy the army to punish them for ‘crime’ of stopping the rain.
This time Mnangagwa has announced he is fretting over a rise in the number of armed robberies involving soldiers and police officers, with observers saying it is tantamount to a mutiny.
Mnangagwa warned rogue elements in the security sector against being involved in criminal activities.
“Yours is a noble profession, you must, therefore, avoid association and acts that put to shame our security institutions,” he warned.
“You as officers, men and women of the ZDF (Zimbabwe Defence Forces) should never be entangled in criminal activities.”
The country has experienced a rise in cases of soldiers and police officers being involved in armed robberies and other criminal activities in the past months. Some of those implicated fall under the Presidential Guard, the core team who shot civilians on the 1st August 2018.
Most military men and women, who helped Mnangagwa to wrest power from the late former President Robert Mugabe in a November 2017 coup, are also struggling.
Mnangagwa yesterday promised to address their welfare.
Over the past two months, the AFZ los
t two of its old helicopters in separate crashes, one of them fatal.
“We are a peaceful nation and a God-fearing people who uphold the international peace, justice and the rule of law as anchors for a prosperous global world and shared future,” he said.- Additional Reporting / Newsday

BLACK-GOAT: Matiza’s Son Clashes With ZANU PF Youths
The late Transport minister Joel Biggie Matiza’s son, Batsirai, has landed himself in trouble with Zanu PF youths in the province after he started campaigning for a post in the provincial executive without approval.
Matiza was Zanu PF’s Mashonaland East provincial chairperson as well as Murewa South legislator.
He succumbed to COVID-19 early this year and was declared a national hero.
According to a letter dated August 8, signed by Goromonzi district co-ordinating committee youth affairs chairperson Arthur Chidenhe and addressed to the youth league provincial political commissar Lincoln Matare, Batsirai is accused of campaigning for the provincial youth chairmanship.
“He (Batsirai) disrespectfully entered Goromonzi district and convened a youth meeting without my knowledge as the incumbent youth secretary for the district,” part of Chidenhe’s letter read.
“Not only is he disrespecting me, but the entire Zanu PF leadership as well as violating the COVID-19 restrictions to curb the pandemic.”
Chidenhe added: “Mr Batsirai Matiza is campaigning for the post of provincial youth chairman, yet the term of office of the current provincial youth chairperson (Kelvin Mutsvairo) is still valid. The entire provincial leadership’s term is still effective and hasn’t been advertised as vacant,” the letter added.
Chidenhe yesterday confirmed the authenticity of the letter and Matare confirmed receipt. “I confirm that I received the letter and the party is looking into the issue,” Matare said.
Efforts to get a comment from Batsirai were fruitless. -Newsday

Promoting Healthy Lifestyles Through Football

Prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa Sent 6 Hitmen After Me Today
COVIDLiar preacher Emmanuel Makandiwa was still to comment on evidence presented that suggests he deployed assailants after a South Africa based critic today.
ZimEye was still at pains to obtain the man’s response to serious allegations that he sent 6 men in two cars after Mr Tinashe Mutamiri, a whistleblower in Makandiwa’s reputation attacks against former Congregant Blessing Mashangwa.
Makandiwa did not return calls.
Mutamiri narrates his allegation as below:
?♂️
By Tinashe Mutamiri | So today I received a call in the morning from an unknown number inquiring about the services one of my companies offers, it was very suspicious and after all I was expecting some hit back from the Makandiwa’s.
So I told him before we meet you have to deposit a consultation fee of R2000 just to test his commitment, but he deposited R1000 and promised to pay the other R1000 in person.
In the back of my head I knew this was Makandiwa trying to set me up and silence me for good, so I chose the meeting venue “as you know, a crocodile will never agree to a lion’s meeting outside the river”
The hunter became the hunted, 6 men arrived “2 armed & 4 bouncers” in a black VW Polo(SRX59-GP) and a White Audi with Botswana Reg (B465BMI ), I trapped them in the restaurant and what happened afterwards is history now, I was not there but my guys were there inside waiting for their arrival.
I can promise you one thing, this crew will never ever take projects to clean up Makandiwa’s mess ever again, they learnt the hard way, I recorded everything and I’ll post their confessions tomorrow and who had sent them..what they don’t know is, I’ll always be 10 steps ahead of them , these are just pastors come on-you can’t expect any genius plan from them other than manipulating and lying to their gullible followers.
I’ll not even spend their R1000 blood money they deposited, but if you guys want it i can send it to you..

BREAKING: Johannesburg Elects Mayor Who’s Zimbabwean
Police Officers Nabbed For Robbing Gold Miners
By A Correspondent- Two Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officers were part of a gang of four cops who allegedly participated in a foiled gold heist.

However, Mausa and Sibanda are still at large.
The four who were not on duty attempted to rob miners processing gold ore at Cobra West Mine after an unsanctioned raid on August 6.
Bangure, armed with an AK 47, allegedly opened fire injuring Vumani Moyo, a miner.
The miners hit the intruding cops with stones until they sped off in a private car.
No Pants Zodwa Wabantu Arrested
By A Correspondent-Police in South Africa have arrested dancer and entertainer Zodwa Wabantu for allegedly breaking lockdown regulations.
Taking to Instagram on Monday, 9 August, Zodwa shared a video of her
DARK! Confrontation with the police.
According to the post, she was coming from a gig when the cops approached her.
She alleged that one of them demanded a R5 000 bribe.
She wrote: “Look at the man who demanded R5 000 on the road when this officer asked about our permit. Since he is charging us on curfew time, we have a permit to work all-time in the media space, not the club. I have other projects on TV.
“I was almost eight minutes to my house.”
In the video, a group of police can be seen cornering Zodwa, while one of them is also taking a video.
One of the police officers then demands to see Zodwa’s work permit.
Zodwa took out her phone and showed the police her work permit while there was a heated exchange with the police. “Here is the permit. No, you didn’t listen to us because you wanted to do exactly what you are doing.
“You’re the one who told me I want to trend. This is the permit and yes I’m coming from work. Ngibuya ukuyodunusa bhuti,” she can be heard saying as she shows them her work permit. But the police said the permit reflected only one person and there were four of them. “We are all under that permit. Besides, that’s how a permit is written,” Zodwa said.
In another video, Zodwa can be seen being photographed at the police station. Another officer asked if she understands that she is being arrested, to which Zodwa responds and says yes.
At this stage, it’s not clear which gig Zodwa was coming from and it’s also not clear if she was in police custody or not.

Zodwa Wabantu In S*x Storm
By A Correspondent- Controversial South African socialite, Zodwa Wabantu has publicly announced having intimacy with fellow local entertainer Thabo Mabogwane of Black Motion.
She said the two were s*x partners.
Zodwa revealed that to Daily Sun after a video surfaced, where she told TV personality Lasizwe Dambuza that she had intimacy with Thabo.
Dancer Zodwa Wabantu pictured with Black Motion’s Thabo ‘Smol’ Mabogwane. .

World Health Organization Seeks To Promote Healthy Lifestyles Through Football

WATCH- Passion Java “Exposed”
By A Correspondent- In an exclusive interview with ZimEye, MDC Alliance youth leader Tererai Obey Sithole has accused Passion Java to stop abusing the pulpit for political mileage.
He said:
“I am not trying to be “violent” but I am just here to share my ordinary observations. So after calling for people to pay $210 so that they can fast, here is the supposed to be “Chief Faster” leading others in practically feasting during the same period of fasting.
Most probably the money being spent for the lunch has been drawn from what the unsuspecting victims paid to fast. A thief simply stealing through religion!”
Prominent Pastor Solves Congregant’s Problems Using Own Private Organ
A prominent Mutare church leader, who is in an eye of a storm after his alleged adulter0us relationships with married congregants was exposed.
The man of God, has been described as a “manipulative and deceitful character” in court papers.
It has also emerged that Royal Family International Ministries bishop Action Komani, who once faced rap_e charges, is having sleepless nights as his church is crumbling with congregants leaving as they accuse him of being a pervert.
Komani recently lost a court case where he was seeking to gag church members from going public with his alleged adulter0us relationships with married women.
Mutare magistrate Notebulgah Muchineripi dealt a major blow to Komani after ruling that Maxwell Kusasira and his wife Patience had the right to publicise any information about the clergyman.
Komani is alleged to have had an adulter0us relationship with Patience with whom he sired a child.
Kusasira and Patience had agreed to publicise the adulter0us affair before Komani sought to block them.
Komani also applied for a peace order against the couple, saying they were harassing him through text messages.
However, court papers in possession of this publication have opened a can of worms.
In his founding affidavit Kusasira narrated how his wife was manipulated and how she is suffering emotional trauma from the se_xual shenanigans.
“Sometime in December 2014, we had a minor misunderstanding and as a young couple we sought for counselling from the applicant (Komani), but later on the applicant started to make constant check-ups on my wife,” he wrote.
“On Sunday January 3, 2015 soon after the Sunday service at church, he invited my wife for counselling at his house in (Fairbridge) Park on the 6th of January 2015, she went there as per appointment.
“After counselling he prayed for her, but during the prayer session he poured anointing oil on her head and pronounced that ‘from now on you are my Esther’. She did not get the full meaning of the pronouncement.
“She stated that she was asked of her (HIV) status and the last time she got tested.
“When she was about to leave, she was told to hang around in the (central business district) area because he was going to look for her at the end of the day.”
He added: “When she was already at Sakubva rank in a kombi to go home the applicant called her to check where she was and he instructed her to come and meet him at Total service station.
She went there and was asked to get into a car and they drove off to Edus Lodge in Bishop Avenue in Yeovil.
“Whilst inside the car, he asked for se_xual favours and she refused. He manipulated her, coerced and misinformed her.
“He said that for her marriage to be saved she must give in to his se_xual demands as this would help to sustain her marriage. He se_xually exploited her on the day.
“He said whatever had happened was the solution to her marriage problems and also for his marriage since he was also having marital challenges with his wife.
“She was isolated from her friends, relatives and colleagues and was supposed to share her problems only with him.
“He continued with his se_xual exploitation on her and several times she told him to stop exploiting her for se_x.
“He se_xually exploited her several times and she attempted to commit suicide twice.”
Recently, Komani’s pastors, Abel Chamboko, Tinashe Nzou and Bella Mutandiri also appeared before Mutare magistrate Xavier Chipato seeking a peace order against Brenda Dheka and Loveness Chaita, who also alleged that bishop wanted to se_xually abuse them.
They accused the duo of tarnishing the image of the church.
The application was dismissed and it also opened a can of worms with Dheka telling the court that Komani promised to spoil her despite her being married.

Muzenda Investigated Over Fake O’ Level Certificate
By A Correspondent- Police in Gokwe are investigating a suspected case of fraud involving a Cotton Company of Zimbabwe (Cottco) Gokwe depot employee, Rosemary Manyiwa Muzenda, who secured employment with a fake Ordinary Level certificate.
Allegations are that Muzenda, a resident of Mapfungautsi suburb in Gokwe, used a fake O-Level certificate to secure a job at Cottco as an accounts clerk.
Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the case, adding that the accused would soon appear in court for trial.
“ZRP confirms the arrest of Rosemary Manyiwa Muzenda on allegations of fraud in connection with her employment by Cottco, Gokwe depot. Through misrepresentation, she secured employment with the company as an accounts clerk in 2018. The suspect will appear in court soon,” Mahoko said.
Allegations are that on July 29, the member-in-charge of CID Gokwe, who is only identified as Detective Assistant Inspector M Mumpande wrote to the Cottco manager at Gokwe depot, Praise Makombore, informing her about the investigation.
“This station is investigating a suspected case of fraud as defined in section 136 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act (Chapter 9:23) involving the above-mentioned (Muzenda). An anonymous tip-off received by this station indicates that she got employed by your organisation using fake certificates,” the letter read.

Funeral Services Company Overwhelmed By Covid-19 Deaths
By A Correspondent- Philip Mataranyika, the owner of Nyaradzo Funeral Services, said the end-of-life industry was overwhelmed by deaths resulting in burials being delayed by a day or two.
He pleaded with members of the public to adhere to COVID-19 preventive measures to prevent loss of life. He said:
Because there have been many deaths, the end-of-life industry has been under immense pressure, resulting in delays all round. Burial of our beloved ones has been delayed by a day or two.
Our hospitals are full of the sick, and our morgues are full of the dead. Our colleagues on the frontline in the health sector are doing all they can to save lives. At times their efforts are not rewarded, resulting in the loss of life, and this has happened on occasions too numerous to mention. Each time this has happened, morgues have borne the brunt.
I implore you, fellow countrymen, to observe the World Health Organization guidelines and those issued by our government so we can be safe and avoid infection.
An undertaker who works at the Nyaradzo funeral home, but did not want to be identified, told the Guardian that he is preparing 30 bodies for burial each day adding that most of them are Covid-related. He added:
July was really busy; I sometimes knocked off around midnight. This has taken a huge toll on my body too as I am always tired. The third wave has killed a lot of people.
Delays have been happening due to strained resources; we cannot execute all burials at once. We are now doing a booking system and if we reach a certain number, like 30, we defer the burial to the following day.
Norman Matara, president of the Zimbabwe Association of Doctors for Human Rights warns the public against complacency saying people with severe symptoms should report to the hospital sooner. He said:
People are using unconventional means to cure Covid and when they see that it is not working, they come to the hospitals. [By then] it would be too late to deal with such cases.
Zimbabwe is pinning its hopes on its vaccination programme which has seen over 2 million people receiving at least a single dose.
Zimbabwe authorised the use of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, Chinese vaccines, the Indian-developed Covaxin and Russia’s Sputnik V.

Tinashe Sambiri| Popular South African politician, Mmusi Maimane has said Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration is full of thieves who are plundering State resources at will.
Maimane also accused the Zanu PF regime of trampling on the fundamental values of the liberation struggle.

EU Donates To Starving Zimbos
By A Correspondent- The European Union has donated EUR3 million to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to assist Zimbabweans facing starvation.
The funding will be used to support highly vulnerable people living in urban communities who are struggling to meet basic food needs as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The contribution, made through the EU’s Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations Department (ECHO), will come in the form of cash assistance used to support beneficiaries of WFP’s Urban Social Assistance and Resilience Building Programme.
Recipients will receive USD12 per person, per month via either e-voucher or Western Union cash transfer – to help cover basic food needs such as maize meal, cooking oil and salt. said EU Ambassador Timo Olkkonen:
At the EU, we are committed to working with partners like WFP to bring life-saving assistance to vulnerable populations, most of whom are struggling to make ends meet in these challenging times. But our assistance can never cover all those in need, only sound public social policies and sustainable economic growth based on political and economic reforms can.
WFP Zimbabwe Country Director and Representative Francesca Erdelmann said the already dire food insecurity situation in urban and peri-urban areas has been further exacerbated by restrictive measures implemented to curb the spread of COVID-19. This has resulted in the loss of urban livelihoods and income. Said Francesca Erdelmann:
Urban populations face high living costs to obtain basic food needs, along with other critical items such as rent, water and electricity. We are seeing a 30% increase in the average price (in ZWL) of basic food items (maize meal, maize grain and sugar beans) in the first half of 2021 (Jan-Jul), when compared with the second half of 2020. Cash assistance can help to ease the burden for households, providing people with greater autonomy when planning monthly expenses.
According to the 2020 Urban Livelihoods Assessment, 2.4 million urban dwellers are estimated to be cereal insecure. The findings, released by the Zimbabwe Vulnerability Assessment Committee (ZimVAC) in March 2021, show increasing food insecurity of vulnerable households by 12% since 2019. This is due in part to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown measures that have resulted in the widespread loss of urban livelihoods.
WFP is assisting 326 000 people, based on available resources. With the support of its partners, WFP aims to reach up to half a million people in urban areas by end of the year.
A total of USD88 million is needed to support growing humanitarian needs in urban locations.
Meanwhile, Zimbabwe is this year expecting a plentful harvest that will likely change the narrative following good rains in the 2020-21 farming season.
Couple Kills Own Baby In Domestic Scuffle
By A Correspondent- A Marondera couple, which secretly buried a year-old baby, has been nabbed.
Givemore Mapfumo (41) and his wife Senzeni Godzi (20) of Cherutombo suburb are currently assisting police with investigations following the death of their child who they privately buried on the Ruzawi River banks.
Police in Mashonaland East yesterday confirmed the arrest, but refused to disclose more details.
At the weekend, NewsDay visited the couple’s residence, where neighbours said the baby died after sustaining injuries during the couple’s scuffle over an undisclosed domestic issue. The police exhumed the minor’s body and took it to Marondera Provincial Hospital for post-mortem.
It is reported that on August 1, at around 8pm, the couple had a fight and the baby, which was strapped on its mother’s back, fell.
On August 2, the baby’s condition deteriorated, prompting the mother to seek treatment at a local clinic, but she returned home without being attended to. Godzi reportedly travelled to Macheke to consult a traditional healer.
However, on August 5, the baby’s condition worsened, resulting in Godzi seeking assistance from her grandmother Memory Gore (70).
But the baby died the same day. The couple allegedly took the baby to the river and secretly buried it.
The matter came to light after neighbours noticed that the baby was missing. They alerted the police, leading to the arrest of the couple and Gore.
