“Mnangagwa Will Never Unite Nation”

Tinashe Sambiri|Former mayor of the city of Harare, Councillor Ben Manyenyeni has pointed out that the Zanu PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa will never unite the nation.

According to Councillor Manyenyeni, Mr Mnangagwa is too obsessed with destroying the opposition instead of concentrating on uniting the nation.

“It is a tragedy of mega proportions that Mnangagwa will never be able to unite the country he leads.

It is impossible because as an individual he is a fatally partisan politician.

His brain is wired to destroy the opposition – nothing else.

It is such a tragedy that he will serve his time in office with a serious deficit of such a key requirement of his esteemed office.

What a missed opportunity for him and for the beloved Republic,” Councillor Manyenyeni argued.

Tables Turn For Bribe Taking Fake Cops

By A Correspondent- A Form Four pupil who was not wearing a face mask almost fell victim to fake police officers who were demanding a bribe.

The pupil (16), who cannot be named, was at Bulawayo’s Centenary Park with his girlfriend, cudd_ling on the lawn under a tree, when Mduduzi Dube (31) and Fanuel Ncube (29), who are both from Pumula South suburb, pounced on them.

They told them that they were police officers from Bulawayo Central Police Station, but they did not produce identification cards.

Ncube and Dube harassed the lovebirds for not wearing face masks. They arrested them and said they were taking them to Bulawayo Central Police Station.

When they had walked for about 100 metres, the fake police officers demanded a bribe.

“They told me that I will rot in jail and to avoid that I have to pay them. I gave them R100,” said the pupil.

As the bogus cops were being paid, police officers from Kumalo Police Station came to their rescue.

“They asked them what was happening and the young couple told them that they were arrested by police officers for not wearing a face mask and had paid them R100 fine so that they would be set free,” said a source close to investigations.

The real police officers asked Dube and Ncube to produce their police IDs, but they failed, said a source.

“They were then arrested and taken to Kumalo Police station,” said a source.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident: “I can confirm that we arrested two male adults for impersonating police officers.

They ordered a Form Four pupil who was not wearing a mask to give them a R100 bribe. We would like to urge community members to adhere to Covid-19 protocols by wearing face masks properly and sanitise so as to avoid falling to prey to unscrupulous people.”

Jilted Mutare Man Suffers Major Custody Blow

By A Correspondent- A jilted Mutare man whose wife was snatched by a neighbour and co-worker this week suffered another blow after he lost custody of his three year old child.

Ngonidzashe Pasinzo recently approached Mutare Civil Court applying for custody of the child after his marriage to Kudzai Mandigo irretrievably broke down.

The estranged couple counter accused each other of neglecting the boy when they appeared before Mutare magistrate, Ms Purity Gumbo.

“I don’t want him to have custody of the child as he is irresponsible. I left him because he was not buying clothes for our child. He can’t stay with the child because he is still too young. He is also jealous since I moved out to stay with someone he knows,” said Mandigo.

In response, Pasinzo said: “I don’t have any problem if she decides to stay with another man, but my child is being abused by these two. I can’t have peace in my heart knowing that my child is being abused by another man,” he told the court.

The court ruled that the child should be in Mandigo’s custody.

Pasinzo, a self-proclaimed prophet, could not hide his anguish as he chronicled how he lost his wife to a neighbour only identified as Kureya.

He said he thought Mandigo and Kureya were friends before he later realised that the two had actually moved in together eight months ago. In an interview with The Weekender, Pasinzo said:

”About eight months ago I left home for work, only to find Mandigo gone upon my return. She left with all her belongings.

“I also realised that the man who had been staying next door (Kureya) had left as well. Kureya came back the following day and told me that he had moved to his new residential stand at Kentucky Farm.

“I never suspected that he had left with my wife. However, word started doing rounds that the two had moved in together. I carried out my own investigations and confirmed that Mandigo had eloped with Kureya,” said Pasinzo.

You Are Too Obsessed With Destroying Opposition, Councillor Manyenyeni Tears Into Mnangagwa…

Duo Consent To Marry, Share Wife

Two men in Kenya have agreed to marry the same woman, taking turns to stay with her and helping raise her children.

Joyce Wambui had been torn between two lovers for more than four years and was unable to choose between them. So she joined in a contract stipulating that Sylvester Mwendwa and Elijah Kimani would “share” her.

But Mwendwa’s decision to go public about the unusual deal has infuriated Wambui, cost him his job and forced him into hiding to escape a public backlash in Kisauni, Mombasa.

The 26-year-old told the BBC that he entered a pact with Kimani to end their rivalry. “It could have been very dangerous if the other man would have come to her house and caught me,” he said. “So our agreement is good as it sets boundaries and helps us keep peace.”

He claimed Wambui’s parents had given her their blessing, adding: “She is like the central referee. She can say whether she wants me or my colleague.”

Wambui, a widow and mother of young twins, is said to be in her late 20s. In a separate interview with Kenya’s Daily Nation newspaper, Mwendwa explained: “It’s not because she is a superwoman, but because she is a hard worker and very beautiful.”

The unusual arrangement came about after the intervention of Abdhallah Abdulrahman, a community policing officer. “The two men were quarrelling and I wanted to know what they were quarrelling about,” he said. “I found out they were sharing one woman without knowing each other. I wanted the woman to decide which she loved and agree to stay with one. Unfortunately, she refused to decide. She said, ‘I love both of them, I’m not ready to lose them.’

“Both men refused to surrender the woman. They assured me they’re going for a discussion where they’ll settle the differences themselves. They surprised me when they said they had agreed to be together.”

Abdulrahman said he was strongly opposed to the contract. “To me as a Muslim and a Kenyan, I don’t accept it,” he added. “It is against our religion and our African tradition. It is against Kenyan law. Under our constitution it is not allowed. The community are disappointed and everybody is against it. Sylvester Mwendwa is now in hiding, saying his life is in danger.”

Mwendwa’s willingness to publicise the contract in national and international media has also caused a rift with Kimani and Wambui, putting the whole understanding in jeopardy. On Tuesday the Daily Nation reported that Mwendwa, a butcher, said his boss fired him after he heard the story, and he is reported to have gone into hiding.

Even if Wambui forgives him, there is little prospect of making the three-way marriage legal. Whereas polygamy – one man with multiple wives – is legal in Kenya and widely practised by various communities, polyandry is almost unknown.

According to Kenya’s NTV station, the contract states: “We have agreed that from today we will not threaten or have jealous feelings because of our wife, who says she’s not ready to let go of any of us. Each one will respect the day set aside for him. We agree to love each other and live peacefully. No one has forced us to make this agreement.

Na_ked Body Discovered On The Shores Of Lake Chivero

By A Correspondent- A missing 45 year old fish monger’s corpse was on Sunday found nak_ed in decomposing state near the shores of Lake Chivero.

Reports are that the late Nester Chikwengo of Ruwa was last seen aboard an identified motorist’s vehicle at White House Shops before they left together to an unknown destination.

However, her decomposing body was only discovered by one Simon Mukwasha who was coming from an afternoon prayer at the nearby shrine and he alerted the police.

Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Tendai Mwanza confirmed the incident saying investigations to establish circumstances leading to Nester’s death were still in progress

“Police received a report from a Zimbabwe National Parks Warden officer that a body in its decomposing state was found at a bush near Lake Chivero at around 3pm on Sunday,” said Insp Mwanza.

“Reports were that the informant went to his shrine for some prayers and was attracted by a stench coming from the south eastern side of the shrine.

“Informant became suspicious and trailed the direction of the scent up until he discovered a lifeless nak_ed body of an unknown woman lying in a dense grassy area.

“The body was taken to Sally Mugabe Central Hospital mortuary for a post mortem and investigations are in progress,” said Insp Mwanza.

The late Chikwengo was known for visiting Lake Chivero for buying fish from fish mongers for sale.

“Shona People Have Never Won A War On Their Own”

Victory is sweet.

Real heroes achieve it on the battle field but cowards make false claims of victory in the rallies, media and history books to celebrate and enjoy their own lies.

Shona people have never won any war on their own.

Making a long list of wars calling them “chimurengas” and making false claims of victory is one thing but winning a real war in a real battle is another.

However, if there is a war that Shona people have won on their own without assistance which we are not aware of, which has escaped the eagle eye of information age, we challenge the headquarters of Shona supremacism, ZANU Pf, and all Shona historians to furnish us with such information.

The Zimbabwe army emerged as a strong force in 1980 when it combined well trained and disciplined ZPRA and the Rhodesian Army. The FN toting, razzmatazz, Shona only liberation group, ZANLA, that had a strange appetite for chicken, could not form a strong army on its own.

Now the Zimbabwe army is a shadow of its own. The skilled Rhodesians have completely left the army. Most ZPRA members have retired or died due to old age.

What is left now is an  ill- equipped, hungry, under – paid ,demoralised and indisciplined army with torn uniforms and boots.

Thanks to Minister of Defence, gogo Opah Muchinguri we came to know this. “We need food rations, as we are expected to provide 30 items, but we are only giving them 10,” she told Parliamentarians in 2019.

“We are expected to provide four sets of uniforms but they have only one. You can identify a Zimbabwean soldier by their worn-out uniforms,” continued  gogo Muchinguri-Kashiri.
This sounds like a disorganised rebel group in a jungle somewhere in DRC than a national army. But it is a true reflection of an army that defends Zimbabwe, a broke and failed state without its own currency.

As for the arms, we saw them ourselves during the coup of 2017. Ancient tankers most of them confiscated from ZPRA in the 1980s were rolling for all to see. It was a big show of weakness.

Due to hunger and underpayment the Zimbabwean soldiers have resorted to armed robbery and illegal supply of arms and ammunition to armed robbers hence the knee shaking series of armed robberies around the country.

One member of the Zimbabwe National Army, Zvindozvashe Dzuda was charged with several counts of armed robberies, theft and illegal supply of ammunition by the Zimbabwean court this weak. This the level of indiscipline, demoralisation and poverty in the Zimbabwe army.

We note that although the boastful and arrogant Shona people lay claim to every war that happened in Zimbabwe, there is one war which even the most noisy Zanupf members or the most drunk Shona historian will never mention.

That is,  the 1st Anglo – Matabele War of 1893. If we were to follow the Chimurenga myth this war would be called Chimurenga (1).  But no! The Zimbabwe Chimurengas start with 2nd Anglo Matabele War which they call Chimurenga 1. The 1st Anglo – Matabele war is missing in the history books of Zimbabwe because of many reasons that are a humiliation to Shona supremacist.

Firstly, it exposes the fact that the the traitorous Shona people acted in alliance with the white colonisers to fight and destroy the Kingdom of Matabeleland on 3 November 1893 after giving away their own country Mashonaland for free to the same colonisers on 13 September 1893.

Secondly, it exposes another  indisputable fact that Matabeleland and Mashonaland aka Zimbabwe are two separate countries that were colonised on different dates, using different methods. Mashonaland was occupied through peaceful means on 13 September 1890 while  Matabeleland was occupied on 3 November 1893 after a deadly war (1st Anglo- Matabele War) in which Matebele Royal Army fearsly resisted colonialism.

Thirdly it exposes yet another fact that Shona supremacists who  portray themselves as Pan Africanists are actually anti Matabele genocidists who went as far as forming up alliances with the whites to obliterate Matabele Kingdom and nation.

Last but not least, the Shona people have never engaged the mighty Matabele in a war except in a genocide where unarmed innocent Matabele civilians including women and children were butchered.

As one who speaks to Matabele young men and women on a daily basis,it is my testimony that they are itching for the opportunity to liberate themselves from the Shona supremacist government of Zimbabwe using whatever means possible. Should the opportunity avail itself, triumphalists, trumpet blowers and accomplished liars that are Shona supremacist will be suffer another humiliating defeat.

In the American revolutionary war (1775- 1783) supporters of the British Crown, called loyalists or Tories, were declared ‘persons inimical to American liberties’ by the patriots. During the war, loyalists were made to flee to British strong holds and when their cause was finally defeated in 1783 around 60 000 of them migrated to British territories where Britain compensated them in cash and kind.

As Matabeleland independence is surely coming like sunrise, we pity those Matabele who sellout on the revolution. The poor and broke Shona supremacist government won’t be able to maintain its small pay it gives to you. They are also human eating tribalists and that means migrating to Zimbabwe will as good diving into a river with hungry crocodiles .

Selling out is totally unacceptable in every revolution. Matabeleland revolution is not about to accept traitors. The British Crown could not trust the loyalists, it held them in suspicion and were the most despised. This shows that traitors are loathed even by their own masters.

A good traitor is a dead one. The necklace is the best gift for all traitors.

Izenzo kungemazwi!

Luke-ing the Beast in the Eye: Mnangagwa regime rants that national army is Zanu-PF militia

By Luke Tamborinyoka

Prologue

Former Rhodesian prosecutor and now acting Zanu PF political commissar Patrick Chinamasa recently caused a furore when he insinuated that the national army is a Zanu PF militia unit.

The import of Chinamasa’s scandalous utterances that the army and Zanu-PF are inseparable is that Zimbabwe’s military is decidedly partisan. Such utterances are simply scandalous. UnConstitutional. Disturbing. Coarse. They are a living reality that must be confronted well before the next election.

At the core of the Zimbabwean crisis has always been the palpable abuse of the army for patently partisan ends. In this our beloved country, the role of the military, particularly its dabbling in civilian political affairs, has been the elephant in the living room. In fact, in our case, this particular elephant has become so mischievous that it has gone well beyond the living room to occupy the whole house!

The military has been at the core of the violence in post-independent Zimbabwe: from the Gukurahundi genocide to the violence of 2008, from the subversion of the people’s will in the sham 27 June 2008 contrived run-off poll to the coup of November 2017. The shenanigans of the highly militarised and securocratic secretariat of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission that brazenly stole the 2018 Presidential poll snugly fit into the blood-soaked record of the military’s involvement in civilian electoral and political matters.

Chinamasa’s recent utterances attest to the urgent need for a national conversation, be it a dialogue or a national convergence, where a comprehensive electoral reform package that includes the role of the military in civilian political matters must be honestly discussed, debated and agreed.

The Constitution is very clear on the role and remit of the military. Chinamasa’s reckless rant to the effect that the army is an extension of Zanu-PF is in contravention of section 208 of the supreme law of the land which explicitly prohibits members of the security forces from furthering or prejudicing the interests of any political party or cause.

Under Emmerson Mnangagwa, the militarisation of civilian affairs has deepened. We now have soldiers in every sector. Now we have soldiers in the executive, including the Presidium; soldiers in Parliament and soldiers in the Judiciary. In the Judiciary, soldiers are not just there as judges but even as complainants and defendants including in protracted divorce cases where they are denying mothers the rights to meet with their children. Soldiers are everywhere and the whole political economy has simply been gunnified. Even in our hospitals, we have army doctors as well as one unique patient with a military background who has also risen to become the Minister of Health.

Mnangagwa is a Mugabe on steroids. The span of military reach has widened under his dispensation; which dispensation is no way a Second Republic but a more insidious and a more wicked continuation of the First.

Today, I republish this highly informative piece that I wrote in September last year. It is an extract from an intensively researched academic paper that I wrote as part of the intellectual enterprise in my grope for knowledge, in this case tracing the militarisation of Zimbabwe’s civilian sectors over the years. Chinamasa’s recent utterances must be understood within this deeply disturbing context; which context Zimbabweans need to interrogate and honestly debate well ahead of the watershed 2023 harmonised elections.

Ode to Zanu PF’s tenuous militarization of Zimbabwe’s civilian vocations

This week we look at ZanuPF’s tenuous legacy, particularly how the country’s founding leader Robert Mugabe systematically militarised several civilian sectors of the body politic, a practice that his successor Emnerson Mnangagwa has maintained and in fact deepened.

Under Mnangagwa, even our diplomacy was militarised through the appointment of retired military general Sibusiso Moyo as Minister of Foreign Affairs as well as the retirement and the reassignment in February 2019 of four military generals to serve as full ambassadors, marking the full militarization of the country’s diplomatic service. Mnangagwa has just yet again militarised our medication by reassigning his Deputy Constantine Chiwenga, a retired military general, to serve as the country’s Health Minister as well.

But as we remember Robert Mugabe’s blood-soaked legacy, with Mnangagwa as his sidekick, I trace the journey of Zanu PF’s militarization of civilian vocations over the last 41 years.

It is important to stress that this week’s piece is an edited extract from a comprehensive and voluminous academic paper that I have written elsewhere as part of my strident academic pursuit.

Introduction

Zimbabwe attained its political independence from Britain on 18 April 1980 after a protracted armed liberation struggle. The founding leader of the independent republic was Robert Gabriel Mugabe, then the Prime Minister of Zimbabwe who only became President following a Constitutional amendment in 1987. This extract will trace the history of civil-military relations in independent Zimbabwe from the time of independence in 1980 until the founding leader was ousted in a military-assisted transition in November 2017. Tendi (2019: 48) contends instead that what ousted the country’s founding leader from office in 2017 was not a military-assisted transition but a coup as what happened snugly fits all the definitions, traits and commonalities of a coup. This extract will also make a brief reference to the militarization of diplomacy through the secondment of military generals as full ambassadors, a practice that began under Mugabe. As this extract will show, Mugabe led the country through an eventful epoch in which the span of military control spread across a variety of civilian sectors.

Civil-Military Relations in Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe’s civil-military relations were tenuous from the time of the attainment of independence in 1980. The country attained its political independence following an armed liberation struggle and the two political liberation movements ZANU and ZAPU had their own military wings known as ZANLA and ZIPRA respectively. This means that from the very outset, there has always been fusion or concordance in civil-military relations as the civilian political parties had military wings during the armed war of independence. Rupiya (2002) refers to this as the Liberation Movement Model of civil-military relations where the army in countries that waged liberation struggles has always been embedded in civilian political affairs.

This model of fused civil-military relations is particularly common in sub-Saharan Africa in countries such as Zimbabwe, Angola, Namibia, South Africa and Mozambique that waged protracted liberation struggles to achieve their political independence. In all these countries, by dint of their history, the military has always controversially played civilian roles and the important line between the military and the civilian realms has often been blurred. Chitiyo (2009) notes that while both ZANLA and ZIPRA as party military wings were highly politicized, they became even more politicized as part of a supposedly professional army after 1980. Soon after independence around 1982, the army was deployed against civilians in the Midlands and Matabeleland provinces where an estimated 20 000 people were brutally murdered. The 5th Brigade, a unit of the Zimbabwe National Army, was used in the highly political Gukurahundi campaign, ostensibly to neutralize suspected “dissidents.”Yet the army-instigated massacre of civilians may have been a ZANU plot to neutralize ZAPU, its co-liberation movement during the armed struggle for independence. Mugabe was later to publicly admit to the military’s responsibility in the callous murders of innocent civilians, famously describing it as having been a moment of madness.

In 2017, the Zimbabwe Democracy Institute unveiled a comprehensive study which showed how the military had become active players in four civilian institutions in violation of the Constitution. The four civilian sectors in which the army had become intimately involved are the electoral process, the judiciary, the legislature and the media.

The military in elections

Perhaps the stand-out statement that showcases the army’s involvement in elections was made on 9 January 2002 when the then commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, Vitalis Zvinavashe announced on the eve of a Presidential election that the Presidency was “a straightjacket” and that the army would only salute a President who had liberation war credentials (Zimbabwe Press Freedom 2002). This was seen as a coup of sorts and a subversion of the electoral process as it meant that out of all the candidates who had legally submitted their nomination papers, the military could only accept an election outcome in which President Mugabe emerged as the winner. The statement was therefore a subversion of the electoral process!

Chitiyo (2009) notes that in the same 2002 Presidential election, the national election management body, then called the Electoral Supervisory Commission (ESC), was chaired by Sobusa Gula Ndebele, a retired soldier, while the chief executive officer was Brigadier-General Douglas Nyikayaramba, then a serving military officer.

The disputed and challenged 2002 Presidential election, whose verdict is still to be handed down 19 years later, , was also run as a military operation because the National Command Centre, run by the military, was first established at the then Sheraton Hotel before it was moved to Manyame Air Base.

In the run up to the 2008 elections, in whose run-off poll the military was heavily involved and in which military generals were assigned to provinces to overturn the results of the first-round poll, President Mugabe seemed to accept what he said were concerns from the military that ZANU PF, as the party that won the country’s independence through an armed struggle, could not just cede power by virtue of an electoral process which uses a pen which costs less than five cents:

_They (soldiers and war veterans) came to me and said, “President, we can never accept that which we won through the barrel of the gun could be taken merely by an ‘X’ made by a ball point pen .” ‘ Zvino ball point pen icharwisana neAK ? ( Will the pen fight the AK rifle? ). Is there going to be a struggle betweenv the two ? Do not argue with a gun .

Added to this is the fact that the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission, the country’s election management body, has since publicly admitted that 15 percent of its secretariat are serving members of the security service, further confirming that the military is firmly embedded in the civilian process of the running of the country’s polls. This could as well confirm the Liberation Movement Model of civil-military relations (Rupiya 2002), in which the military in a country that fought an armed liberation struggle will always remain an active player in civilian political affairs to serve the interest of the ruling elite to which it was a part of during the armed struggle. Such an army will need to be weaned off this patently unconstitutional habit of meddling in civilian processes.

The military in the media

During Former President Robert Mugabe’s era, military personnel were also seconded to the civilian sector of the media, where they were given top leadership positions at the Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe (BAZ), the Zimbabwe Newspapers Group (Zimpapers) and the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Holdings.

Eight senior soldiers were handed leadership of the three media institutions. The top military commanders deployed to serve the media sector were Retired Colonel Reuben Mqayi and Brig-Gen Elasto Madzingira (both BAZ), Major-General Gibson Mashingaidze and Brigadier-General Benjamin Mabenge (both ZBH), Colonel Claudius Makova (New Ziana), Brig-General Collin Moyo (Kingstons) and Brig-General Livingstone Chineka (Transmedia). Added to these soldiers running the conventional media, former ZNA Commander Phillip Valerio Sibanda also stated at the time that social media had become the new security threat. Thus, he said, the military would be heavily involved if anyone was found guilty of masterminding what he described as the new threat of cyber warfare (nehandaradio 2016).

The military in the Legislature

Parliament as the theatre of the people’s representatives appears not to have been spared the militarization crusade in this apparent fusion of civil-military relations under former President Mugabe. An analysis of the serving legislators as at June 2013 shows that there were no less than 14 retired members of the country’s military. (www.parlzim.gov.zw). In its seminal report, the Zimbabwe Democracy Institute (2017) further noted that most of the legislators of the 7th Parliament, even if they were not directly linked to the military themselves, were either relatives, family or friends with those in the armed service and resultantly, the military interests were jealously protected and preserved.

The military in the Judiciary

Though the judiciary, together with Parliament and the Executive are supposed to be separate arms of the State in line with the country’s Constitution, there was notable presence of military interests in the judiciary during the reign of former President Robert Mugabe. The ZDI (2017) noted that the country’s war veterans, regarded as reserve members of the Zimbabwe National Army, had reconfigured the judiciary in 2000 by forcing the resignation of then Chief Justice Anthony Gubbay as well as Justices David Bartlett and Nicholas McNally during the fast-track land reform exercise. They forced the resignations of the esteemed judges by storming into the courtroom and dancing on the tables of the country’s Supreme Court. Justice George Chiweshe, now the Judge President, is a retired Brigadier-General who was also the ZEC chairperson during the disputed election of 2008.

As part of the military intrusion into the judiciary, the then Prosecutor-General Ray Goba admitted during public interviews that most staff in the National Prosecution Authority (NPA), a key arm in the Justice delivery system, comprised mostly of staff seconded from the Air Force and the army. He conceded that most of them were unqualified for their job and this had compromised the country’s justice delivery system (The Zimbabwe Independent 2017).

Beyond the four areas of military intrusion discussed above, it is instructive to note that under former President Mugabe, serving and retired military personnel were seconded to State-run entities and other civilian institutions, possibly in line with what Rupiya (2002) postulates to have been an attempt to embed patronage and loyalty. During the latter years of President Robert Mugabe’s tenure, the country’s spy agency, the Central Intelligence Organization (CIO), was headed by retired Brigadier-General Happyton Bonyongwe while the Zimbabwe Prison Services was headed by Retired Major General Paradzai Zimondi, further cementing the grip of the military even within the security units of the State.

It is pertinent to note that under Mugabe, the military personnel were seconded to parastatals and other civilian institutions. While this was permissible under the Defence Act and under the old Constitution, the practice became patently unconstitutional after the country affirmed a new supreme law of the land in a referendum in May 2013.

Section 29 of the Defence Act gives the Minister of Defence the power to attach or second serving military personnel to civilian institutions but the same is now inconsistent with the Constitutional provisions in sections 206 (1), 207 (2) and 208 (1) which generally prohibit serving military officers from being partisan and from partaking in purely civilian activities in the absence of a national emergency. There is now an apparent conflict between the Defence Act and the Constitution and in those circumstances, the Constitution takes precedence over any other law that is inconsistent with it. Section 2 (1) of the Zimbabwe Constitution (2013) specifically states that the Constitution “ is the supreme law of the land and any law , practice , _custom or conduct inconsistent with it is invalid …”

However, despite the advent of the new Constitution which makes the secondment of serving military officers to civilian institutions illegal and unconstitutional, former President Mugabe still maintained the practice. The secondment to civilian government service in 2015 of Brigadiers-General Evaristo Dzihwema, Gerald Gwinji and Michael Sango violated section 208 (4) of the Constitution which outlaws the attachment of serving military officers to civilian offices save only during situations of national emergency. While still serving in the army, the three were appointed to the positions of principal director in the then Ministry of Youth and Indigenization, Health Permanent Secretary and ambassador to Russia respectively, in blatant violation of the supreme law of the land.

Chitiyo (2009) also chronicles various controversial quasi-political activities undertaken by the military during former President Mugabe’s reign that confirm his tutelage, patronage and reliance on the military for the ruling party’s political survival. These include Operation Tsuro to take over white-owned commercial farms in 2000, the 2005 Operation Murambatsvina (Drive Out the Filth) to demolish shacks and homes in high-density urban areas, Operation Garikai / Hlalani Kuhle (Live Well) that was meant to build small urban homes as well as Operation Makavhotera Papi (Who did you vote for) that was meant to scare urban voters who overwhelmingly voted for the MDC in 2008. The same military was also allowed to involve itself in what ought to have been civilian agricultural programmes such as Operation Taguta (Enough Food) and lately the Command Agriculture programme in which billions of money in scarce foreign currency was stolen by the military elite. All these civilian programmes were actively driven by the military, thereby showcasing a legacy of concordance or fusion of civil-military relations under Mugabe, notwithstanding the Constitutional provisions in the Zimbabwe Constitution (2013) that call for separation in civil-military relations.

In 2016, as relations between the former President and the army got strained with the army actively interfering in the internal affairs of the ruling Zanu PF, then ZDF commander Constantine Chiwenga made a chilling revelation that the military were not stakeholders but were “stockholders” in both the party and the country. After all, he said, the military were the war veterans who had fought for the country’s independence so they were in charge of both the party and the country.

If anything, Chiwenga’s statement referred to above was an ominous testimony of the tenuous nature of Zimbabwe’s civil-military relations under Mugabe and how the military had become active players in partisan politics, in brazen violation of the country’s Constitution. One could surmise therefore that from 1980 to 2017, the military appeared to play conjoined civilian and military roles, setting the stage for contentious civil-military relations that led to calls by the broader international community for security sector reform, ostensibly to curtail and restrain what demonstrably appeared to be the over-arching hand of the military in the civilian sectors of the country’s political economy.

The Militarization of Diplomacy in Zimbabwe : A historical overview

In the years of his tenure between 1980-2017 and as part of the militarization of civilian sectors, it was Mugabe who commenced the now intensified practice of reassigning military generals to diplomacy to serve as full ambassadors. As part of a long-standing tradition since 1980, the former President in 2015 yet again seconded three military generals to serve as full diplomats.

These were Major-General Nicholas Mahuhuba Dube (Mozambique), Air Vice Marshall Titus Abu-Basuthu (Japan) as well as General Mike Nicholas Sango (Russia). Dube and Sango replaced other military generals in their countries of posting, namely Retired Brigadier General Agrippa Mutambara and Lieutenant Colonel Borniface Chidyausiku respectively.

Other former military commanders re-assigned to diplomatic missions as full ambassadors under the Mugabe regime include Rtd Major-General Edzai Chimonyo (Tanzania), Rtd Major-General Jevan Maseko (Cuba) and former CIO director-general Elisha Muzonzini (Kenya). Chimonyo is a curious case as he has since been brought back into active military service by current leader Emmerson Mnangagwa to serve as the commander of the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA), raising doubts as to whether retired soldiers truly become civilians or the prospects always remain for them to be brought back into active military service. This shuttling between retirement and active military service could be presumed to be a further complication of the country’s tenuous civil-military relations as this means one can never tell whether retired military officers truly become civilian or there are always prospects of them bouncing back to active service in the barrack

Conclusion

As discussed in this treatise, under former President Robert Mugabe, himself foisted at the helm of ZANU PF through the Mgagao declaration by the liberation party’s military wing in 1975, the army’s tentacles were allowed to spread across a vast labyrinth of the civilian sectors. The line between the civilian and military realm became blurred. Under former President Mugabe, civilian and military relations were conjoined in a manner consistent with the concordance theory as enunciated by Rebecca Schiff (2009), notwithstanding the country’s Constitutional provisions that affirm the separation theory in civil-military relations by creating distinct civilian and military realms. The remit and tentacles of the military under Mugabe stretched from the country’s election-management body, parastatals, the judiciary, Parliament, the media as well as seemingly innocuous and purely civilian enterprises such as the country’s successive agriculture programmes. After all, in a tenuous rendition of the country’s unconstitutional civil-military relations and as the army itself publicly stated, Zimbabwe’s military were the “stockholders” of both the country and the ruling party. The secondments of serving military officers to civilian offices and departments were done in brazen violation of the Constitution of the country, which outlaws the practice. Ironically, when relations between the founding leader and the military soured in the run-up to the coup that removed him from office in November 2017, it was Mugabe himself who admonished the army for straying into the civilian arena of politics, a practice he had himself overtly and covertly encouraged over the years.

Mugabe publicly said the involvement of soldiers in the internal ZANU PF politics was tantamount to a coup and he invoked a liberation war dictum which stated that politics shall always lead the gun and not the gun politics. If Mugabe was eventually ousted by the same military that had installed him as party leader in 1975 and kept him in office for all his 37 years in office, then the country’s former strongman might as well have been hoist by his own petard (Tamborinyoka 2017). As noted in this extract, it was former President Robert Mugabe who initiated the now burgeoning practice of reassigning military commanders to the arena of diplomacy to serve as full ambassadors, probably as part of the dexterous practice of political tutelage and patronage.

This is Mugabe’s legacy but under Mnangagwa nothing has changed. In fact, the military’s involvement in civilian affairs has been deepened as shown by the fact that even the country’s health services has now been militarised through the secondment of retired military Generals to serve in the Ministry of Health as Minister and permanent secretary respectively.

If anything, under Mnangagwa, we have jumped from the frying pan into the fire when it comes to the militarization of civilian vocations. Chinamasa’s recent scandalous utterances must be understood within this dangerous context which Zimbabweans must honestly converse about if we are to hold truly credible polls in which the army does not subvert the will of the people as they have done before.

In fact, so militarised now is our health services sector that the next time you buy your medication, mind that there could be within the medical package some lacing of gunpowder and bullets!

By Business Correspondent | Scores of Zimbabweans are being bundled up and arrested around the United Kingdom after the British government entered a secret deal to deport hundreds of Zimbabwean asylum seekers.

The UK government is chartering a flight to deport at least 150 undocumented Zimbabweans from the 21-22 July 2021, ZimEye can reveal.

The secret deal was entered into in meetings held between the 22nd and 23rd June 2021, ZimEye reveals.

Those to be deported include mere immigration offenders, but the media will be advised that they are all convicted criminals, the meetings concluded.

The meetings were attended by a Zim Foreign Affairs Diplomat and one Emily Hardy who is the Migration Delivery Officer at the High Commission in Harare.

A private jet has been booked to fly out of London Heathrow on the 21st July 2021 and will land at RGM Airport the following day.

Reached for a comment, a UK Home Office spokesperson told ZimEye: “The public rightly expects us to remove those who have no right to be in the UK.”

On the legalities of the operation, they said, “we do not comment on operational matters.”

Commenting on the development immigration solicitor, Andrew Nyamayaro said while he was not aware of the flight details, he knows: “at least 8 Zimbabweans who have been bundled at reporting centres and taken to the government’s removal centre near Heathrow Airport.”

The development comes as proven jobs scammers and agents, Olinda Chapel, and Caroline Mujeyi Nyakudya went on a campaign illegally charging desperate job seekers in Zimbabwe claiming the UK govt is on a mass recruitment exercise for nurse aids, while withholding data limits imposed on their licenses by the Home Office. The British Police described the adverts as a scam and encouraged victims to report it on number +443001232040.

Employer Okays Married Maid To See Old Lover

By A Correspondent- A heartbroken Bulawayo man has sensationally claimed that his wife’s employer allows her to meet an old flame at her house, supposedly for sex.

Taurai Mashingaidze from Matsheumhlope suburb claimed his wife Eddilyne Munasireyi meets her former lover with the blessing of her employer at her employer’s house in Ilanda suburb.

Mashingaidze revealed this at the Bulawayo Civil Court while responding to his wife’s allegations that he was verbally, physically and emotionally abusing her as punishment for not getting pregnant.

Munasireyi seemed to have courted her husband’s anger when she also claimed that he was always threatening to kill her whenever they picked an argument.

“I have been staying with Taurai Mashingaidze since December 2018 and no children have been born out of the relationship. He is of a violent disposition and has always physically assaulted me during the subsistence of our marriage.

“The latest incident was on 16 June 2021 when we had an argument about where we should put our keys when both of us are not at home. The argument resulted in him choking and assaulting me on the head. He went on to drag me on the ground.

“He sometimes beats me up in the presence of my sister and neighbours who cannot intervene because they also fear him. I once reported him to the police in February last year after he beat me up with a metal rod but later dropped the charges after he begged me and told me he would change his behaviour,” said Munasireyi.

She said her husband was also emotionally abusing her as punishment for not conceiving.

“He also emotionally abuses me concerning my inability to bear children. He often threatens to kill me whenever we have an argument. I now fear for my life and hereby apply for a protection order against him so that he stops physically, verbally, emotionally and psychologically abusing me,” pleaded Munasireyi.

Her accusations didn’t go down well with her husband who stated that she was cheating on him with her ex-lover.

“I am not opposed to her application for a protection order. My request to the court is that she should change her phone number since her ex-boyfriend is in the habit of phoning her.

“Her ex-boyfriend is going to where she works at the invitation of her employer who is allowing them to meet at her house. That ex-lover is also her employer’s taxi driver. Whenever she is going to church, she leaves early in the morning and comes back late in the evening. I am suspecting that she will be with her ex-boyfriend,” said Mashingaidze.

Presiding magistrate Nomagugu Sindisiwe Maphosa didn’t entertain Mashingaidze’s request arguing that she could not grant an order that made his wife select people whom she could communicate with or what time she could leave and come back home.

In her ruling, the magistrate ordered Mashingaidze not to verbally and physically abuse his wife.

Man Rapes 11yr Old Cousin, Promises Her Sweets

By A Correspondent- A 30 year old man from Entumbane suburb has been arrested for allegedly raping his 11-year-old cousin after he promised to give her sweets.

The accused man cannot be named to protect the identity of the minor.

A source close to investigations said between August and September last year, the man was staying with the girl at a family house in Entumbane suburb. The mother of the child was in South Africa, where she works.

In September last year the man arrived home at around 9pm and invited the minor to his bedroom saying he wanted to give her sweets, said a family member who requested not to be named.

When the unsuspecting child got into his bedroom, he grabbed her by her neck while warning her not to scream. He threatened to kill her if she screamed, a family insider said.

He raped her and ordered her not to tell anyone about the rape ordeal.

“He told her that if ever she told anyone that he raped her he would kill her and throw her remains into a fire. The minor kept the horrendous act to herself. Sadly she suffered sores on her privates, causing her to walk with difficulty,” said a source.

Sometime in October 2020 her mother returned and took her to South Africa.

While she was in South Africa the tot revealed to her mother that she had been experiencing sharp pains in her private parts.

“She disclosed that she was raped by acousin and was afraid to tell anyone because he threatened to kill her if ever she told anyone. After the shocking revelation, her mother travelled back to Zimbabwe with the minor and reported the matter at Entumbane police station,” said a source.

The sex offender was arrested this week on Tuesday.

Bulawayo deputy police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the incident: “I can confirm that we arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly raping his 11-year-old cousin,” she said.

She warned parents never to leave their daughters with male relatives, adding that every male had the potential of being a rapist and advised rape victims to report such cases within 72 hours so that they could get post exposure prophylaxis.

Herdboy Steals Employer’s Car

By A Correspondent- A man employed as a herd boy in Empandeni, Plumtree is on the run after reportedly stealing a vehicle belonging to his elderly employer.

The vehicle is a red Honda Fit registration number AFH 4885.

The suspect has been identified as Mduduzi Ndlovu from Nyamandlovu.

Narrating the incident to CITE, the daughter of the elderly woman, Sizani Moyo, said the incident happened yesterday around 11 pm.

Moyo said prior to the incident, she had reprimanded Ndlovu for neglecting the goats and preferring to look after the cattle.

“So, last week when I was in Zimbabwe, I gave him a warning and he apologised but I ended up telling him that he has to look for another person to assist him to look after the goats since he preferred the cattle,” said Moyo.

“I think he felt that I wanted to fire him, so he took the car and other goods together with groceries and ran away.”

Matabeleland South acting provincial Police Spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Thabani Mkhwananzi confirmed the incident saying the suspect is on the run.

“I can confirm that there is such a case and the suspect is on the run, we haven’t recovered the car,” said Assistant Inspector Mkhwananzi.

“He was employed as a herd boy and it looks like he was tasked to wash the car; after that, he claimed that he had misplaced the keys, the family looked for the keys until they surrendered and retired to sleep.

“Around 11 pm when the old woman was asleep, she heard the sound of a car, when she tried to go outside to investigate, she realised that the door was locked from the outside.”

The car could have been stripped after some villagers picked the vehicle’s front bumper.

Assistant Inspector Mkhwanazi appealed to anyone who may have information on Ndlovu whereabouts to contact their nearest police station.

He also urged employers to conduct background checks of their prospective employees before hiring them.

“We would like to also encourage employers to pay the employees on time, it is not only the employee who is bad all the time, some of the employers hire people without paying them, not that I am saying the old woman was not paying him, but at times the employees would want to recover owed salaries through unorthodox means,” said Assistant Inspector Mkhwananzi.

220 Zimbabweans Deported From SA

By A Correspondent- A total of 220 Zimbabweans were deported from South Africa via Beitbridge border post as the neighbouring country moves to decongest migrants holding centres and minimise the rate of new Covid19 infections.

Most of those deported had violated immigration laws (undocumented and overstaying).

So far this is the largest contingent of deportees to arrive via Beitbridge since the beginning of the year.

Zimbabwe’s Consul-General Mrs Melody Chaurura to Johannesburg said their hosts have not been able to deport people in the last two weeks and that the current group had been detained at Lindela Holding Centre in Gauteng province.

She said on average less than 100 people were being sent home from South Africa weekly.

“This is the largest group so far. It’s part of the routine weekly deportations. The high number is due to the fact that no deportations were carried out two weeks prior,” said Mrs Chaurura.

Upon arrival at Beitbridge, the deportees were screened by the border and health authorities and also tested for covid19.

Those that will test positive for the condition will be put in isolation, while those testing negative will be sent to their respective homes for quarantine.

So far over 18 000 Zimbabweans, among them, deportees from Eswatini, Lesotho and South Africa have passed through the Beitbridge Centre between March 2020 and June 2021.

Budiriro Woman Dumps Hubby To Reveal Baby’s Paternity

By A Correspondent- A Budiriro woman ditched her husband of nine years claiming he was not responsible for their two year old baby.

Primrose Mwamuka, 32, reportedly took her belongings in the absence of her husband Tawanda Sivieri, 36, and phoned him after two days informing him about the paternity of their child.

Tawanda Sivieri and Primrose Mwamuka holding their baby

Mwamuka confirmed ditching Sivieri urging the latter not to waste his money to seek DNA tests for the child.

Sivieri, an ardent follower of Mugodhi Apostolic sect, told H-Metro that he is set to approach office of Registrar General for cancelation of the baby’s birth certificate.

“I want to thank my church leaders for counselling me following the unexpected end of my marriage,” said Sivieri.

“I could have committed crime considering the support I gave to support that baby.

“Madzimai ndinofunga kuti hapana huroyi hunopfuura kugara nemurume achichengeta mwana wababa vapenyu.

“At least I thank God for convicting my wife to confess her wrong doing and leaving the house peacefully,” he said.

Sivieri narrated the trips he made to consult faith and traditional healers for a blessing of the child.

“Mbereko yakaramba wangu kwemakore mapfumbamwe takafambira kumadhokotera ne maporofita.

“My wife later conceived and gave birth in September 2018 and I want to suspect that she cheated the period she was on attachment at another company.

“I was staying with her brother as well and they left on the same day.

“My wife has been buying kitchen utensils and hiding them in the room where my brother in-law used to sleep.

“Upon confronting my brother in-law he disclosed that my wife gave him to keep.

“She phoned me two days later disclosing that the baby was not mine and it affected me much.

“One of her uncles attached to members of the uniformed forces threatened me with unspecified action if I was to continue calling my wife,” said Sivieri.

Mwamuka showed H-Metro medical records about Sivieri’s alleged low sperm count which she claimed were enough to convince him about her confession.

“It’s unfortunate that he is now after publishing the issue he is quite aware of,” said Mwamuka.

“I have the medical records for you H-Metro to read and enquire from medical doctors for interpretation.

“I do not know why he is failing to understand what I told him but the truth is that I am now living with my parents in Mabvuku,” she said.

Stray Vicious Dog Bites Kadoma Woman To Death

By A Correspondent- A Kadoma woman has died after she was bitten by a vicious dog.

Susan Muswaire, 45, died at Sarudzai Health Centre on Tuesday morning after her blood pressure and sugar levels shot up in the wake of the dog bite, according to her husband Garikai Maworesa.

She had a history of high blood pressure (BP) and high sugar levels.
“What happened is on Saturday evening she went to ask for her US$20 debt from a householder along Mainge Road.

She was bitten by a guard dog at the house around 6pm before she could be attended to by the debtor. She came back home immediately after that. We could not seek medical attention the following day as we wanted the dog owner to avail its rabbies certificate.

“The owner of the dog did not bother to avail that certificate for his dog. He instead went to Gweshe mining areas,” said her husband Maworesa.
He added: “We managed to have her treated on Monday. Her situation got worse leading to her admission at a local health facility. When l went there yesterday, her condition had gotten worse.”

The dog owner, who was at the deceased’s home where the funeral wake is, said he is still in disbelief over the events unfolding.

“These things are hard for me to believe. She was bitten by my dog on Saturday evening. This happened as she tried to open the perimeter gate through an opening on the gate. As she tried to peep in through that opening that’s when my dog unfortunately bit her on the lips. I can’t come to terms with news that Mai Mamoyo has passed on, especially, soon after the dog bite. I’m devastated,” said the owner only identified as Steady.
Steady looked distraught and pensive.

He told H-Metro that he was a close friend of the family through Susan’s brother Freddy who is now based in South Africa.

“I’m a family friend here and she is my sister. We used to do business here during the forgettable economic crisis days, selling bread as l was employed in the baking industry.” he said.

Zanu PF Wants Mnangagwa Deploy Soldiers To Mozambique

By A Correspondent- Zimbabwe is likely to play an active role in the ongoing conflict in Mozambique’s Cabo Delgado region to save their ‘brother’ at war, Zanu PF Secretary for Science and Technology Christopher Mutsvangwa said recently.

Addressing several members of the Zanu PF Provincial Co-ordinating Committee (PCC) at Great Zimbabwe Robert Mugabe campus on June 20, Mutsvangwa said the nation was geared and prepared to play an active role to fight the Islamist rebels in war-torn Cabo Delgado.

“Zimbabwe can intervene in the Mozambique conflict. We have the capacity to deal with the enemies of the Mozambican government.
“The President of Zimbabwe is very confident and has got the situation under control. We will play a major role under Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) in helping our neighbour,” said Mutsvangwa.

He however said he could not reveal the details on how the government of Zimbabwe would go about the intervention.
“I am not allowed to discuss details on national security though,” he said.
The revelation came on the heels of the call by French President Emmanuel Macron for Zimbabwe to intervene and resolve the Mozambican crisis.

“As a former ambassador, I know the kind of language I am speaking. Our former detractors are making efforts on the diplomatic front to try to re-engage us as a government and sooner than later you will have the results of the meetings availed to you,” added Mutsvangwa.

The northern part of Mozambique has been embroiled in a conflict between rebels and government forces since October 2017.

The head of the Angolan diplomacy on Monday June 28 announced a budget of US$12 million for the deployment of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) standby force in support of Mozambique in a diplomatic meeting held by the regional bloc.
Analysts have said Zimbabwe, along with Namibia and Angola were likely to be involved as they have participated in other deployments in the past. — TellZim

Mnangagwa Rejects Mandigora Hero Status Request

By A Correspondent- The Zanu PF government has turned down a request by Zifa to have the late Dynamos and national team legend David ‘Yogi’ Mandigora declared a national hero.

Zifa had said Mandigora, who died at the age of 64 last month, had a huge impact on the face of
local football from the colonial days when the game was used to challenge colonial rule.

He also led his boyhood club Dynamos to league glory in 2007 and the Caf Champions League
semi-finals in 2008 as a coach in addition to being independent Zimbabwe’s first Soccer Star of the Year in 1980.

The Government said conferring Mandigora with national hero status on the basis of such achievements would have set unachievable precedence because a number of footballers walked the same road and achieved the same accolades as the late Mandigora.

Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation Ministry deputy director Ignatious Vambe told Chronicle Sport that the national hero request did not pass on the basis that “it would have opened up a lot of issues, especially from the sporting fraternity in general and football in particular because a lot of other footballers achieved the same feat and once one was accorded such a status, it automatically meant every other football had to be given the same status”.

“That would have created a big problem for us. What, however, was agreed was to come up with a criterion targeting sportspersons and it was felt that using what was given for Mandigora would not be enough, but would instead create problems in future,” said Vambe.

No sportsperson has ever been conferred national hero status in Zimbabwe.

In 2012, the political leadership from Matabeleland requested national hero status for the late Highlanders and national team legend Adam Ndlovu, but the request was turned down.

A National University of Science and Technology (NUST) part four Marketing Management student, who allegedly faked his death on Tuesday, had no choice but to come out and declare that he was still among the living after the university’s department of marketing issued a heartfelt condolence message to his classmates.

The ‘dead’ student, Simbarashe Maringosi, who is said to have been admitted to hospital with Covid-19 and was discharged on Tuesday, denied that he had faked his own death and blamed his younger brother for the hoax.

“TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN. I am not a ghost… We have been getting condolence messages from numerous people the whole day who had been misinformed by my younger brother that I had passed on. We got calls from church, overseas, NUST, among other people, who received the circulating message which is not only unethical, but is not based on the truth.

“My younger brother was having my NetOne line during the duration of my COVID-19 sickness. I was only discharged this morning; I did not die this morning. How he linked being discharged and dying is a shock to me. For those who want to talk to me directly, use my Econet number: 0776 207 276,” said Maringosi in a statement that has gone viral on social media.

Mangirosi’s statement was issued later in the day after the Faculty of Marketing’s staff and students had been reduced to tears, with the head of department (Daisy Odunze) penning a tear inducing condolence message.

“It is indeed with a heavy heart that we acknowledge the news of the passing on of one of our own, Mr Simbarashe Maringosi. Simbarashe was an excellent and brilliant student and the excellence extended to his personal life. He was headed to graduate with an overall distinction had he tarried a while longer with us on earth. “I pray for reprieve for the family. May they find solace in our faith in God even in this trying period. And I pray for us all as well. May we live daily knowing that death is a debt we must pay. Implore all of us to take special care and extra precautions in ensuring our safety. Stay home. Maintain minimum contact with people if possible and above all, pray. This, too, shall pass,” read the message.

After discovering that Maringosi was alive, people close to him had no kind words for him. They dismissed his explanation and blamed him for the whole drama.

“I know Simba, he is capable of such drama. There is no way his brother could have lied that Simba had died without Simba’s blessings. In fact, he is lying that his brother is to blame for the sick joke,” said a student who refused to be named.-B-Metro

Mnangagwa Assures Self: We’re Winning Against COVID-19

Emmerson Mnangagwa with Charles Manyuchi

…We’re winning the battle against Covid-19…

Zimbabwe is winning the battle against Covid-19 and focusing on rebuilding the country’s economy, President Mnangagwa said.
After receiving boxing gloves and an autographed belt from the World Boxing Federation (WBF) middleweight champion Charles Manyuchi at State House yesterday, the President said Zimbabwe is always ready for the challenge.

“Always ready for the fight. We’re winning the battle against Covid-19. We’re rebuilding our economy. Zimbabwe is rising again. Thank you to the champ, Charles Manyuchi, for his generous gift and support,” said the President on his Twitter handle.

The country, said President Mnangagwa, was proud that one of its athletes was a world boxing champion and was also playing a leading role in the battle against Covid-19.

Manyuchi defended his World Boxing Federation middleweight title when he beat Ugandan challenger, Mahommed Sebyala, by a unanimous points decision, in Masvingo last weekend.

The 31-year-old pugilist also scooped the recently inaugurated World Alliance Boxing Association (WABA) World Supreme and the World Professional Boxing Federation titles.

He presented the titles to the President at State House yesterday. The President congratulated Manyuchi for his success and handed him a US$10 000 token of appreciation.

The boxer is also set to get a 100ha farm in Masvingo, pledged by the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Masvingo Province, Ezra Chadzamira.

“I am happy that we have the WBF middleweight champion in Zimbabwe,” said President Mnangagwa. We feel very proud that this title is in Zimbabwe. I congratulate you and, as a result of that, I have donated something for you.

“It’s a small token of US$10 000.” Manyuchi presented the President with an autographed belt, and a pair of gloves, which shows the Head of State and Government knocking out the Covid-19 pandemic, in Zimbabwe.

He was accompanied by Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation Minister, Kirsty Coventry, and her deputy Tino Machakaire.

The entourage included acting director in the Sport and Recreation Ministry, Ignatius Vambe, Lawrence Zimbudzana of the Zimbabwe National Boxing and Wrestling Control Board, Manyuchi’s manager Peter Hlohla and Tafadzwa Chibaya of the Charles Manyuchi Academy.

Minister Coventry said Manyuchi, who has previously won the World Boxing Council and the African Boxing Union welterweight titles, has never disappointed.

She said the pugilist has shown great determination to defend his title, despite the lack of sponsorship, in the sport. Manyuchi promotes his own fights through the Charles Manyuchi Boxing Academy.

“We are extremely proud of Charles for defending his title. It was not an easy fight, especially during this period of Covid-19.

“It has been very inspiring to see an athlete maintaining fitness and health and to walk away with the world championship and world title belt. “He is the best boxer in the world in the middleweight category under the WBF,” said Minister Coventry.

She said Manyuchi’s success stories have been an inspiration to many local athletes.

Coventry said Manyuchi did well to remain competitive, despite several cancellations to his fight in the last year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

With a total of 39 people, including technical staff, in attendance at the Flamboyant Hotel in Masvingo, Manyuchi took control of his fight midway through the bout after losing the first two rounds, and won a deserved unanimous decision.

“Charles has always been a very good boxer, a very good athlete. He is an inspiration to other athletes because this fight has been prolonged and put off numerous times over the last year because of Covid-19.

“So, to see that he has maintained that focus, for such a long time, to finally be able to have the fight, and to come out on top, we are extremely proud of him, and all the work that he has been doing.

“Today, was a good opportunity for His Excellency to recognise Charles, and his team, and also reward him with a token of appreciation of US$10 000, which is greatly appreciated.

“I think during this time of Covid-19, when athletes and sport and our arts and creative culture sector, and the entire country of Zimbabwe, is taking many protocols of being safe, around Covid-19, this is a little bit of inspiration to show that we will conquer Covid-19,” said Minister Coventry.

Manyuchi said he was grateful for the recognition he received from the Government and the President.

“Today’s event was marvellous. I really want to thank the Government, in particular His Excellency President Mnangagwa.

“I was very excited to meet him and also about the gift that he gave me. I would like to thank the Minister of Sport, Hon Kirsty Coventry and her deputy Hon Tino Machakaire.

“I am happy with this gesture. It’s good motivation. I hope this will not end with me,” he said. Manyuchi has two more fights lined up, before the end of the year.

He is expected to fight in Dubai in September and then in Morogoro, Tanzania, two months later.

He also revealed that the Government has helped him secure land to build a state-of-the-art sports centre in Chivhu.

Manyuchi partnered with the Chikomba Rural District Council in 2016, after winning the WBC title, to develop a multi-million-dollar community sports centre in Chivhu. The council availed a 50-hectare piece of land, worth over $1 million.

However, Manyuchi is still to get the land, five years down the line. “I want to thank the President for intervening in the land issue that I was given by the Chivhu City Council,’’ Manyuchi said.

“It’s sad you get land but end up losing it without benefiting from it. I have also been promised 100ha in Masvingo on Monday. So, I am really excited,” said Manyuchi. -Herald

“Citizens Don’t Need Exemption Letters During Working Hours”

Do you now need an exemption letter to commute under current COVID-19 measures?

No. According to the government, only essential workers who need to move around after curfew are required to show exemption letters.

On Tuesday, the Government announced that there would be stricter monitoring of virus containment measures.

“The nation is advised that the exemption mechanisms which were used during the first lockdown in 2020 will be reactivated with immediate effect,” said Information Minister Monica Mutsvangwa the weekly Cabinet briefing.

Although she made no mention of exemption letters, her statement was interpreted in the media to mean that the letters, which were discontinued as measures were eased, would not again be needed.

The Daily News reported that: “COVID exemption letters reinstated as infections, deaths continue to soar.”

However, the Government has clarified to say that this is not the case. Police should not demand letters under current regulations.

Under current measures, businesses are allowed to open between 8 AM and 3.30 PM. The curfew starts at 6.30 PM.

After the curfew, only essential workers are allowed to move around. To do so, they will need exemption letters. Essential workers include people such as health workers, commercial truckers or those in food deliveries.

According to Information Secretary Nick Mangwana: “The three hours between 3.30 pm when most businesses must close and 6.30 pm, when the curfew comes into effect, is seen as adequate for staff in the general economy to clear their workplace and get home. After 3.30 pm, only essential services as spelt out by the law are allowed to open.”

Conclusion

You do not need exemption letters to commute or move around during working hours. However, during curfew hours, only essential services are allowed to operate. People working in essential services will need to provide proof in order to be allowed to move around.

13y Old Girl Stabs Friend In Fight Over A Boy

A 13-year-old teenager from Umguza District allegedly fatally stabbed her friend before she tried to hang herself in a dispute over a boy.

Police have since arrested the girl who is helping them with investigations at ZRP Mbembesi. Ward Six councillor Alexander Mkandla confirmed the incident which occurred on Wednesday at around 12pm.

He said the teenager who is a Form Two pupil at a school in Umguza District reportedly stabbed the girl who was also a Form Two pupil at the same school after accusing her of dating her sister’s boyfriend.

Clr Mkandla said the teenager confronted the now deceased while she was at her home while her parents were away.

“We recorded a murder case within the ward where a 13-year-old girl stabbed her peer also aged 13.

“From the report I got this girl went to confront the other while she was at home and found her with her young siblings. This teenager accused the other of dating her sister’s boyfriend which resulted in an argument.

“She then stabbed her peer with a knife. The now deceased who was now bleeding profusely tried to flee but she fell upon reaching a neighbour’s homestead and died.

“After realising what she had done the teenager took a wire intending to hang herself but people managed to restrain her and took the wire,” he said.

Clr Mkandla described the incident as a shocking tragedy which had left the community disturbed. He said such violent behaviour was not expected from children of such an age, especially girls.

“It’s frightening and also disturbing to see children of this age engaging in such extremely violent behaviour.

“When we see people of this age we see children who are not capable of doing such things. To make matters worse these are school children. This incident has really left the community disturbed.

“We have been always blaming gold panners for corrupting our children and leading them astray but it seems our children are in the forefront,” said Clr Mkandla.

Police national spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the incident was both shocking and sad.

“It’s a really disturbing incident indeed. We call upon churches, elders and society to restrain the children, to counsel them so that they grow up as responsible citizens who shun crime; who do not engage in acts of violence,” said Asst Comm Nyathi.- Chronicle

Malaria Can Be Eliminated By 2025

The World Health Organization and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria signed a cooperation and financing agreement to implement 10 strategic initiatives to accelerate the end of AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria as epidemics and strengthen systems for health. This new agreement, which will cover the 2021-2023 implementation period, aims to address some of the persistent challenges that impede progress against the three diseases and protect hard-won gains from new pandemics like COVID-19.

In 2019, a total of 1.4 million people died from tuberculosis and an estimated 409,000 people died from malaria. In 2020, 690,000 people died from AIDS-related illnesses.

Through the new agreement, the strategic initiatives seek to:

Expand TB preventive treatment for people living with HIV in 9 countries across Africa;
Strengthen efforts to provide differentiated HIV service delivery;
Accelerate efforts to find people with TB missed by health systems in 20 countries;
Accelerate introduction of innovation for multi-drug resistant TB treatment through regional operational research in Eastern and Central Europe;
Support 26 countries and territories to eliminate malaria by 2025;
Improve country data collection and use to develop evidence-informed policy;
Foster the rapid uptake of service delivery innovations with South to South Learning;
Improve quality of care;
Encourage rapid uptake of procurement and supply chain management innovation; and
Increase program sustainability, facilitate the transition to domestic financing and improve program efficiency.

WHO and the Global Fund have a long and successful partnership working together to scale up HIV, TB and malaria interventions and strengthen health systems in many countries. Through focused efforts and catalytic investments, this collaboration has contributed to significantly reduce the disease burdens of HIV, TB and malaria worldwide, saving millions of lives since 2002.

“The COVID-19 pandemic, more than ever, reinforces the need to strengthen our partnership to achieve our shared goals of ending the epidemics,” said Dr Mubashar Sheikh, Director, Deputy Director-General’s Office, WHO. “This agreement supports countries to develop more effective responses to the HIV, tuberculosis and malaria epidemics and build the resilient health systems they need to reach the most vulnerable.”

“Together, WHO and the Global Fund have proven to be a powerful force that builds on strong in-country support and regional presence, technical leadership and financial resources to strengthen systems for health and accelerate the end of AIDS, TB and malaria as epidemics,” said Michael Byrne, Head of Technical Advice and Partnerships at the Global Fund.

Woman Lies About S*xual Abuse

A Harare woman has confessed to fabricating allegations that her boyfriend raped her and set his dogs to lick her private parts.

The woman, Melody Chitambo, withdrew charges against her now ex-boyfriend Urs Joseph Ettilin after she failed to provide the proof that was required by the State for trial to commence.

Ettilin had been removed from remand earlier this year to allow the State to gather evidence with assistance from Chitambo to prove the allegations.

Chitambo had earlier claimed that she had photos and videos of the dogs licking her which the State would use to prove their case against Ettilin.

However, the docket was returned to prosecution without the required evidence and there was nothing to place before the court.

Chitambo then produced the affidavit of withdrawal stating that she no longer wanted to proceed because she had lied.

According to State papers, Chitambo had claimed that she had an argument with Ettilin after she went for a night out party and returned the next morning around 8 am.

She said while in their bedroom, Ettilin forced her to have unprotected sex with him without her consent and later forced her to be aroused by his dogs whilst she was naked on the bed.

She further claimed that her boyfriend threatened to throw her out of the house empty-handed and that he also took some nude pictures of her on several occasions.

Chitambo alleged Ettilin let his dogs lick her private parts and threatened her that failure to comply he would post the pictures on social media.

She further alleged Ettilin later offered her US$60 000 as a condition for her to leave his house because he had found another woman.

Devasted by her boyfriend’s actions, Chitambo lodged a complaint at Highlands Police Station.

However, all these allegations proved to be false and baseless.- H-Metro

Another Anita Mapiye Emerges

By A Correspondent- A 22-year-old Zimbabwean girl has graduated as a pilot in South Africa.

The young pilot, Tiffany Tashinga Swoswe said she was not deterred by her upbringing in Rusape rural to become one of the youngest female pilots destined for stars.

Tiffany, who is now pursuing a commercial pilot licence, graduated as a Private Pilot last month under Flight Training Services in South Africa.
Inspired by her mother Gladys Swoswe, 49, and the late flight Lieutenant Anita Mapiye, Tiffany said the late female combat Helicopter Pilot story and achievements taught her that anything is possible as long as they remain focused.

“Cyclone Idai challenged me a lot since I lived in Manicaland, my rural province and I want to raise my province’s flag high by saving lives whenever a disaster occurs,” said Tiffany.

“As a young Zimbabwean lady raised in a small town of Rusape by a single mother, I had to make a mark and leave behind a legacy that will motivate those from the same walk of life.

“I came to realise that it’s never about your historical background but it’s indeed about where you are going.

“I have come across many hurdles in life but the hardest one was when I was kicked out of school by my headmistress at Mabelreign Girls High in 2016 because my mother could not afford to pay school fees for that term as business was at its lowest.

“I thought that would be the end of me, that I would never become anything in life but my mother taught me resilience- failing is a mistake but staying down is a choice, a choice I would never make come hell or high water.

“My vision through my story is to inspire every Zimbabwean girl child to always aim for the moon so that in case they fall, they land on the stars.
“I’m not telling you my story so that you can pity me but I am telling my story to reach out to those that have hit an iceberg in their life that it’s not the end, it is just the beginning.
“Destiny can never be denied but can only be delayed,” said Tiffany.

She hailed her mother for supporting her dream even when she had no idea where she was going to get the money for such an expensive course.
Upon relocating to South Africa, Tiffany studied for a Business Management and Development degree and passed with distinctions.
“When the pandemic came it was uncertain, with impact on the business which meant challenges income-wise.

“Covid-19 not only meant businesses were closed but it meant no more flying for a girl destined for the skies.
“Anxiety took over and keeping mental health in check was an intentional activity as my future was now uncertain.
“Would I ever go back to flying? Will there be funds? Will the world open up again? I did not have the answers to these questions so instead of sitting down and sulking, I had to think strategically and adapt to the new world so I attained my qualification in Business Management and Development from Gordon Institute of Business Science 2020.

“Since then I kept the ball rolling and acquired my Private Pilot License on the 9th of June 2021 at Flight Training Services.
“I aim to further expand my horizons and acquire my Commercial and Airline Transport license, the journey continues,” said Tiffany.

Tiffany attended Brainstorm Primary School in Rusape, Eaglesvale High School, Mabelreign Girls High, Wendywood High in South Africa, Gordon Institute of Business Science (University of Pretoria) and Flight Training Services where she graduated as a Private Pilot on 9 June 2021.

Logarusic: Draw With Mozambique A Fair Result

Warriors coach Zdravko Logarusic believes the goalless draw against Mozambique in the opening Group B match of the COSAFA Cup was a fair result, considering the team’s preparations.

The squad spent less than a week in the camp and was hit with several player withdrawals.

Speaking on SuperSport TV after the game, Logarusic said: “We only had five days preparing, and we haven’t played in the league since November 2019. This means there were no official games except the cup games (Chibuku Super Cup).”

He added: “This a good start, we created some chances, and they (Mozambique) also had some good opportunities. I think at the end, it is a fair result.”

Zimbabwe will now shift focus to their second Group B game against Malawi on Friday.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Mnangagwa Sucked In Pokugara Properties Managing Director Van Blerk’s Trial Saga

By A Correspondent| Police investigators are yet to unmask two unidentified men from the President’s Office who threatened a Parirenyatwa General Hospital Doctor over a report she submitted before the Harare Magistrates Court confirming that the under fire Pokugara Properties Managing Director Michael John Van Blerk was fit to stand trial for malicious damage to property.

Investigations conducted by Detective Precious Temba from the ZRP Anti-Corruption Unit revealed that the two men visited Dr Ropafadzo Muzvidziwa at her workplace looking for her and met Gambiza Nondunduzo who was still at work.

They asked for Dr Muzvidziwa saying they wanted to warn her against involving herself in Van Blerk’s case as he was “munhu waPresident”.

Temba said he interviewed, Nondunduzo and Van Blerk’s wife but could not figure out who the men who threatened Dr Muzvidziwa were as both complainant and witnesses could not identify who the perpetrators were.

He said the next step would be to seek a warrant of search and seizure to establish if the perpetrators ever tried to call the complainant on the day in question.

“Nothing fruitful came up yet. Complainant and witnesses stated that they cannot identify the accused persons even if they meet them. Complainant did not receive any calls or had missed calls on the day in question.

“Outstanding is to make a warrant of search and seizure to establish if the perpetrators ever attempted to call the Complainant on the day in question,” said Temba.

World Health Organization, Global Fund Intensify Efforts To Combat HIV

Expand TB preventive treatment for people living with HIV in 9 countries across Africa;
Strengthen efforts to provide differentiated HIV service delivery;
Accelerate efforts to find people with TB missed by health systems in 20 countries;
Accelerate introduction of innovation for multi-drug resistant TB treatment through regional operational research in Eastern and Central Europe;
Support 26 countries and territories to eliminate malaria by 2025;
Improve country data collection and use to develop evidence-informed policy;
Foster the rapid uptake of service delivery innovations with South to South Learning;
Improve quality of care;

VP Chiwenga Blasts “Blind” Pharmacists

By A Correspondent- Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga yesterday blasted retail pharmacists saying they lacked knowledge of the Public Health Act after they sent a petition to Parliament demanding to be considered for government posts such as secretary in the Health ministry.

Chiwenga, who is also Health minister, said this during a virtual meeting with the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Health to discuss the petition by the Retail Pharmacists Association of Zimbabwe.

He said they lacked understanding of the framework that governed the appointment of secretaries of ministries.

“The ministry’s position is that the petitioners have misdirected themselves and further exposed their lack of understanding of the technical and legal framework that governs the appointment of posts of permanent secretary, and provincial and district health officers,” Chiwenga said.

“In this regard, we recommend that they be referred to the Ministry of Health and Child Care to be assisted in understanding the technical basis and legal framework that govern the said posts,” he said.

The Health Professions Act recognises all health professionals and categories for the posts.

“The Health Services Board (HSB) implements the provision of the Act as it is responsible for recruiting all posts of deputy directors to directors. The procedure is competitive to satisfy the constitutional requirements of appointment based on merit.

“The Public Health Act has recognised the technical nature of the functions to be performed by chief health officer, and the provincial and district health officers in relation to the ministry’s responsibility of public
health.”

He said the HSB also employed provincial and district health officials through a competitive process.

“The post of secretary of the ministry is a constitutional appointment, and none of the positions alluded to in the petition are appointed in terms of the Public Health Act,” he said.

Chiwenga said candidates with a public health background and holders of business administration degrees were more likely to land government posts.

“The petitioners cast a blind eye and ignored the fact that the three are technical posts responsible for treating patients as indicated by the Medical Services Act. The core function of medical practitioners — because of their basic training, certificate and licensing — is to treat patients, while pharmacists dispense medicines prescribed by medical practitioners.

“The public health qualification does not qualify to treat patients as it is only meant to equip health care professionals with preventive aspects of health services,” he said.-Newsday

Pregnant Mothers test Covid-19+

By A Correspondent- Twelve (12) expecting mothers at the United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH)’s Lady Rodwell Maternity Unit have tested positive for the coronavirus prompting authorities to conduct mass testing and disinfection of the building.

The Herald reports that those who tested negative will be taken to the Mpilo Central Hospital maternity ward while the UBH maternity unit will be turned into an isolation centre.

UBH acting chief executive officer Dr Narcisious Dzvanga confirmed the outbreak, saying they have reacted swiftly to scale up containment measures for the deadly pandemic. Dr Dzvanga said:

_I can confirm that there is an increase in pregnant mothers testing Covid-19 positive. At the moment we have 12 expecting mothers who are positive at Lady Rodwell Maternity Unit._

_We are taking measures to see if between our two sister hospitals of Mpilo Central Hospital and UBH, one of them can be turned into a red zone for the pregnant mothers. The proposal is that the UBH maternity unit becomes a red zone for those who are positive and require hospitalisation with Mpilo absorbing the negative ones._

_The number of expecting mothers who are Covid-19 positive and that of negatives is almost running at 50-50 per cent. We are now preparing to turn our UBH maternity unit into the red zone for the province and that is work in progress and by end of day, we would have concluded the issue._

Some studies have shown that some mothers transmitted the virus to their babies but it is unclear whether these newborns were infected while in the womb or if these infections were acquired after birth, as the newborns were tested when they were days old.

The possibility of vertical transmission (passing the virus from mother to baby) has not been ruled out.

Farm Worker Stumbles On Dead Body

By A Correspondent- A farm worker who was bathing along a stream in Mkwasine reportedly stumbled on a rotting corpse that was buried in a shallow grave with part of the hands and knees protruding out on Sunday.

The corpse was discovered by Peter Kumbirai at Farm 378, Phase 2 Chingeya.

Although a report was made to Police on Sunday, it is understood that cops only managed to come on Monday.

The Mirror reports that it was discovered that this was the body of a 15-year-old girl whose lips were cut off and there was a deep cut on one of the cheeks.

Masvingo Police Provincial Spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dehwa said he was yet to receive the report.

Sources told the publication that Kumbirai was alerted to the body by the strong stench.

“We exhumed the body which was at an advanced stage of decomposition. It had no lips and had a deep cut in one of the cheeks,” said a source.

There is suspicion that body was buried alive.

Meanwhile murder cases are on the increase in Chiredzi. Two months ago a man was found murdered near Marinda Court and another decomposing body was found near Nandi Railway Station during that same week.

Victor Moyo was arrested after he killed his landlord Prayer Banda (22) of Mbizo 18 in Kwekwe following a clash over rent.

Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the  tragic incident which happened at around 2 am on Monday.

According to the police report, the now-deceased arrived home in the early hours of the morning. He forced open a tenant’s bedroom door ordering him to vacate the room.

A misunderstanding ensued and the now-deceased produced a knife in an attempt to stab the tenant.

Man Arrested After Catching Police Officer Having S_ex With His Wife

By A Correspondent- In a dramatic turn of events, a man from Masvingo found himself in police custody after he caught his wife having sex with a police officer.

Mangarai Mashindi (55) of Pangolin high-density suburb was arrested for disorderly conduct after he had a scuffle with Constable Sydney Chembonje (41) whom he found having sex with his wife Mavis Mashindi (35)  in their matrimonial bed.

According to a leaked police memo, on the night of 1 July at around 20:30 hours, Mashindi arrived home without notifying his wife that he was coming.

He entered the couple’s two-roomed house and opened the bedroom door where he discovered Chembonje and his wife having sex.

When Chembonje noticed the presence of Mashindi, he bolted from the room, naked, but Mashindi managed to manhandle him and the two started fighting.

The police officer overpowered Mashindi and he escaped still naked.

“Accused Number (1) (Mashindi) returned to his bedroom and recovered Accused Number [2]’s property thus his police identity card, driver’s licence, Samsung mobile phone, car keys, a grey jacket, khaki Chino trousers, grey long-sleeved T/Shirt, and one unused condom, ” read the leaked memo.

The following day, Mashindi made an assault report to the police but was shocked when the police informed him, he was under arrest for engaging in disorderly conduct.

The police brought the charges against Mashindi basing on a complaint filed by his wife who witnessed the incident.

Chembonje, who is stationed at the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Chikato Police Station reportedly sustained lacerated wounds on the head and on the arm as a result of the scuffle.

Chembonje is also facing separate charges of contravening the Police Act.

“Acting in an unbecoming or disorderly or in any manner prejudicial to good order or discipline or reasonably likely to bring discredit to the Police Force,” reads part of the leaked police memo.

Man Dumped In Court

By A Correspondent- A man who used to bash his live-in girlfriend whenever they argued at home will regret his unbecoming actions because his fed-up lover dumped him in court.

Regina Munyati of Mpopoma suburb said she could not bear the brunt of being bashed and insulted by her lover Danisa Mawindi and told presiding magistrate Prince Jeconia Ncube that she no longer loved him and was terminating the affair.

“He was treating me like a useless thing, would hit me with fists each time we had an argument. I had to desert our home and went to stay with my parents. Despite that he would come to my home begging me to forgive him. I turned down his demands, but he does not accept that I no longer love him and I do not want anything to do with him,” said Regina.

Danisa also confronts her at her workplace and embarrasses her.

He comes to my workplace. He would shout at me in front of my workmates and would demand the things he bought for me when we were staying together. When he encounters me with a man, he would insult him while claiming that I’m still his live-in girlfriend,” said Regina.

Regina had to approach the civil court to apply for a protection order against her stalker.

In her founding affidavit she said: “I’m applying for a protection order against Danisa Mawindi who was my live-in lover. Sometime in April I had to desert our home and stayed with my parents because he used to beat me and insult me whenever we had an argument. He comes to my workplace and shouts obscenities at me while demanding things he bought me while were staying together. He is in the habit of ambushing me at my workplace and would follow me wherever I go and would spew insults at any man that talks to me while claiming that I’m still his lover,” she said.

Danisa did not attend the court session forcing the magistrate to reserve her ruling on the case.

Holy 10, Enzo Ishall Make Peace, To Collaborate On New Track

ZIM hip-hop star Holy Ten has revealed that he will drop a single soon featuring Zimdancehall star Enzo Ishall, with whom he has been feuding for close to three weeks.

“I wrote a song Can’t Get which was meant to respond to  Enzo Ishall but I am now going to release it as a collabo, we are going to release it  as a dancehall song,” Holy Ten said.

Speaking about his “beef” with Enzo Ishall, which has sucked in several Zim hip-hop and Zimdancehall artistes, Holy Ten said it had run its course.

“The beef was ours, we made it happen. Enzo Ishall is my brother I will never go against him. We were trying to put attention on the hip-hop industry; trying to lift it up.

“As the leader of the youth, I was beginning to enjoy the trends but when things like this continue to happen, we simply have to go back to the message — what we want to give to the people. We have to go back to advocating for the girl child,” Holy Ten said.

The self-proclaimed leader of the youth, as Holy Ten prefers to call himself, said he has decided to turn a song which was meant to diss Enzo Ishall into a duet.

Mashonaland Central deputy police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Naison Dhliwayo confirmed the case.

“I can confirm a sudden death case in Guruve where Job Mujeri died after drinking a suspected poisoned super Chibuku from his brother Leon and we are currently investigating the matter,” Dhliwayo said.

Allegations are that Job went to his young brother’s homestead for a family discussion since Leon’s daughter was about to be married.

Leon gave his brother a bottle of Chibuku which he drank alone.

After drinking the Chibuku he started vomiting blood  and died in a toilet.

Police warned people to respect human life and avoid food poisoning.

Masvingo Horror Crash, Police Fail To Identify Dead Bodies

By A Correspondent- The police have announced that they are yet to identify some of the bodies of the people who perished on the Masvingo-Zvishavane highway, Monday.

The road accident claimed a total number of 20 people after a Toyota Granvia heading west towards Zvishavane collided with a Toyota Wish which was going east towards Masvingo.

The police said they were failing to identify some of the bodies because the deceased did not have identity documents.

Police could only confirm that the Granvia was on its way to a funeral and while it was possible this was that for Ms Zvidzai, police had no confirmation of whose funeral the mourners were travelling to.

Police commanders from Masvingo led by Assistant Commissioners Florence Marume and Fredrick Mbemgwa were at the crash site yesterday as their teams continued recovering the remains and the wreckage.

The burial order for Loice Zvidzai of ZRP Old Camp in Gwanda
Villagers from Jodias and others in the area who spoke at the crash scene said the Toyota Wish was notorious for speeding along the Masvingo-Zvishavane road, and was a well-known presumed pirate taxi on the route.

Among the dead in the Wish was a police officer based at Buchwa Police Station, Lincoln Muungani (28), the only son in his family.

His father and sister were at the scene yesterday afternoon, struggling to come to terms with his sudden death.

Jeffrey Paringira (33) of Jodias Village in Madamombe, who was the first to arrive with his brother Simbarashe Kuzipa, said they started running to the highway when they heard two loud bangs.

“It was around 3.30pm when we heard two loud bangs and when we rushed to the road to investigate, we discovered there was an accident involving two vehicles: a Granvia, which had passengers who appeared to be elderly people said to be going to a funeral, and a Toyota Wish that was going towards Masvingo.

“We tried to rescue some of the passengers, but we failed to pull apart the vehicles and we had to rush back home to look for an iron bar that we used to rescue some of the people who were still breathing.”
Paringira said within a few minutes more vehicles had stopped and drivers started helping.

“We noticed that most people had already died in the two cars, but we managed to pull out a police officer (Lincoln Muungani) from the Toyota Wish and he was still breathing though faintly.”

Lincoln, unfortunately, died at Zvishavane District Hospital around 6pm on the same day.

Another villager among the first to arrive at the accident, William Matangamberi, said he had never seen anything like that in his life.

“We noticed that the Granvia had burst one of its tyres and the driver lost control of the vehicle and encroached to the opposite lane where the Toyota Wish was coming,” he said.

Lincoln’s father, Mr Xavier Muungani (64) of Bulawayo, came with one of Lincoln’s sisters, Ms Noreen Willie and other relatives.

“I received the message of my only son’s passing on around 8pm and by then it was already late so we decided to travel to Zvishavane mortuary today to collect his body. I checked his body. It was badly injured and covered in blood.

“It seemed the impact of the crash was too much because the body had deep cuts while some of the ribs were broken. My son surely died a very painful death and I am devastated,” said Mr Muungani.

Speaking after visiting the crash site with senior police commanders, provincial police spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa said senior police also wanted to have a first-hand appreciation of the crash site as part of ongoing investigations.

“Police commanders decided to visit the crash site so that we can see for ourselves the situation on the ground and this is part of investigations which are ongoing. At the moment we only know that the Toyota Granvia burst one of its tyres but investigations are continuing,” said Inspector Dhewa.

By A Correspondent- The courts have freed a Harare man who allegedly swindled a local investor of US$53 000 and implicated President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s son, Collins.

Sean Chiriseri (33, has been granted $10 000 bail by magistrate Dennis Mangosi, and was ordered to report twice every week at Marlborough Police Station and not to interfere with witnesses.

According to the State papers, sometime in May this year, Chiriseri approached the complainant with a business proposal to do a joint venture in the fuel industry.

The proposals were that Chiriseri would provide the site and Hairwadzi would provide the fuel.

The joint venture would come up with start-up fees for the site to be Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority-compliant.

It is alleged Chiriseri then misrepresented to Hairwadzi that he had money in his nostro account, but could not use it since these transactions needed cash.

The State alleges Hairwadzi availed cash US$53 490 to Chiriseri, who, in turn, furnished him with documents where he purported to have effected the transfer of funds from his nostro account to Hairwadzi’s account.

Hairwadzi later realised that the proof of payment was fraudulent.

A follow-up on Chiriseri did not yield anything as he started to threaten the complainant saying he had been sent by Collins to take him out of
business.

The complainant filed a report with the police, leading to Chiriseri’s arrest.

Macheme, nicknamed “Bla Mo”, was one of the survivors of the accident that claimed the lives of nine Dynamos fans in Kwekwe five years ago.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Harare Dynamos Supporters Association described Macheme as one of their longest-serving members. It said:

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing on of “Bla Mo” Mollen Macheme, one of the longest-serving members of the association, last night at her residence in Chitungwiza.

A very passionate and determined fan, Bla Mo stood up to be counted when anything DeMbare was involved.

Warriors In Dull COSAFA Cup Opener

The Warriors of Zimbabwe were restricted to a lifeless goalless draw by the Mambas of Mozambique as they got their Cosafa Cup campaign underway, in Port Elizabeth yesterday.

For long periods of this match, which fittingly didn’t produce a goal, it resembled just a pre-season training game, for two lower league sides.

There will be those who will argue, with justification, expectation should be low, given many of the Warriors haven’t been featuring, in competitive matches, for some time.

But, the first round of the Chibuku Super Cup games, which featured some of these players, produced some thrilling matches, spiced by some fine individual performances.

Take, for instance, Bruno Mutigo’s super show, at Mandava last month, when he rose from the bench and, with just two swings of his right foot, powered himself into the headlines.

In those few minutes, in which his two excellent goals helped Ngezi Platinum overturn the deficit and beat FC Platinum 2-1, Mutigo provided more highlights, as a person, than the entire Warriors did, as a team, yesterday.

The same can be said of Denver Mukamba’s swift change of direction, sudden burst of pace, a cheeky body swerve and a sublime goal, to help Ngezi Platinum beat Triangle, in the same competition.

Teenage Dynamos winger, Bill Antonio, running rings around opponents, in his first dance in the top-flight league, has produced more highlights, than the poor show we saw yesterday.

The lifeless show against Mozambique, at the Isaac Wolfson Stadium, in which the Warriors failed to do even the basics, of stringing together meaningful passes, left many fans fuming on social media.

There were just three shots on target, for the Warriors, from their eight shots during the game.

Coach Zdravko Logarusic has emphasised he is interested in finding out how some players can respond, in such matches.

But, if this is what his team will produce, throughout the tournament, then he is unlikely to pick anything of substance, from this tour.- State media

Facts About Malaria And TB

Expand TB preventive treatment for people living with HIV in 9 countries across Africa;
Strengthen efforts to provide differentiated HIV service delivery;
Accelerate efforts to find people with TB missed by health systems in 20 countries;
Accelerate introduction of innovation for multi-drug resistant TB treatment through regional operational research in Eastern and Central Europe;
Support 26 countries and territories to eliminate malaria by 2025;
Improve country data collection and use to develop evidence-informed policy;
Foster the rapid uptake of service delivery innovations with South to South Learning;
Improve quality of care;

LIVE: Zuma Finally Jailed

https://youtu.be/7wmt602M9fo
Jacob Zuma

Former South African President Jacob Zuma has handed himself in to police to begin serving a jail sentence for contempt of court, sentenced by the same judge whose Zimbabwe-electoral violence report he blocked in 2013.

His foundation said he had travelled to a prison near to his home in KwaZulu-Natal province late on Wednesday.

Police had warned that they were prepared to arrest Mr Zuma, 79, if he failed to hand himself in.

Last week, he was given a 15-month jail term for contempt of court after he failed to attend a corruption inquiry.

The sentencing sparked an unprecedented legal drama in South Africa, with a deadline imposed of midnight on Wednesday (22:00 GMT) for Mr Zuma’s arrest.

The deadline was imposed after Mr Zuma refused to hand himself in on Sunday.

South Africa has never seen a former president jailed before.

Mr Zuma, 79, was forced to resign in 2018 after nine years in power.

Though he was forced out of office by his own party, the African National Congress (ANC), he retains a loyal body of supporters, especially in his home province of KwaZulu-Natal.

On Sunday, crowds formed what they called a human shield outside Mr Zuma’s palatial home. Similar crowds gathered before he handed himself in on Wednesday.

In February 2013, Jacob Zuma, then president was ordered to hand over the Zimbabwe electoral violence report to a newspaper, the M&G within 10 days. Zuma then quickly appealed against Justice Raulinga’s judgment.

The lengthy saga came to a head when Raulinga revealed that the Justice Sisi Khampepe report had gone “missing”, and disclosed that Rakoatsi had made several unsolicited and unsuccessful attempts to retrieve the report from his custody, in his absence.

In a letter to the appeal court, Rakoatsi rejected any insinuation that he had knowledge of where the report was, or that he had a hand in its disappearance.

Zuma later lost the case at the Supreme Court, in a case that now exposes ZANU PF for terrorism crimes during elections. – Additional Reporting, BBC

ZRP Has No Legal Basis To Demand Proof Of Vaccination

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has dismissed as false, social media reports claiming that police officers are blocking people without COVID-19 vaccination certificates from getting into Harare Central Business District.

ZRP national spokesman Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi told ZimFact that the reports are false. He said:

This is false information. I answered that question to journalists yesterday.

Earlier, Nick Mangwana, Permanent Secretary for Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, tweeted that the roadblocks had been mounted only because intercity travel had been banned under measures that were announced on 29 June. Said Mangwana:

On reports of long queues of vehicles bottlenecked at roadblocks trying to get into Harare, Mazowe and Mutoko are cases in point.

The short response is that intercity is banned fellow citizens. Very few people who are providing an essential service should be travelling.

COVID-19 vaccination certificates are not required when entering Harare, according to the police.

However, the police are enforcing COVID-19 regulations that restrict travel between cities to only essential services.

There is no legal basis for the police to demand proof of vaccination at checkpoints.-ZimFact
