COVID-19 Vaccination Programme Continues To Record Low Numbers

By A Correspondent| Front line workers continue to shun COVID-19 vaccination if the numbers being recorded everyday are anything to go by.

Since the launch of the vaccination programme by vice President Constantino Chiwenga more than a week ago, only 15705 frontline workers have taken the jab averaging about 2000 per day.

Zimbabwe received 200 000 doses of Sinopharm vaccines from China with another 200 000 expected from the Eastern giant.

India and Russia have also chipped in with 75 000 and 25 000 respectively taking the total number to 500 000 doses sufficient to inoculate 250 000.

Despite government prioritising frontline workers and the availability of enough if not excess doses for the initial group, uptake seems to be a big challenge.

The vaccination program has been met with stiff resistance and suspicion from Zimbabweans due to a lot of misinformation circulating on social media.

Despite Chiwenga taking the vaccine to help allay fears in people, it has done too little to change perceptions.

And this could be a signal of the need for government to change strategy before they begin rollout to the larger population.

Just yesterday, only 3126 frontline workers were inoculated across the country.

Government is targeting a Head immunity of 10 million people before they can declare victory over the deadly disease that has claimed millions of lives globally.

Social Media Reacts As Mwonzora Bags ZWL$30 Million From Govt For Political Party Funding

By A Correspondent- Zimbabweans took to social media to express their views on the recently availed Political Parties Fund that was given to ZANU PF and MDC Alliance.

Although it is written the MDC Alliance has to receive the money, the money is not going to the party led by Nelson Chamisa but to MDC-T led by Douglas Mwonzora.

MDC-T claims that they are part of the 7-party MDC Alliance that was formed in 2017 for the purposes of 2018 harmonised elections therefore they are entitled to receive the money.

MDC-T and MDC Alliance have for years been fighting over ownership of MDC name, logo, and properties. The wrangle spilled into the courts which ruled that MDC Alliance was not a party and reinstated MDC’s 2014 structures as the temporary caretaker of the party.

Responding to the disbursement of the funds, Alex Tawanda Magaisa, the former Chief of Staff in the office of the late former Prime Minister, Morgan Tsvangirai said:

General Notice 244 of 2021 says ZWL30 million is due to the MDC-Alliance, which is correct because it contested the elections. But this money is being given to the MDC-T led by Mwonzora. Why is the MDC Alliance not fighting this nonsense?

MDC Alliance activist, Pedzisai Ruhanya said the development shows that MDC-T is a ZANU PF proxy.

He tweeted:

ZANU PF and MDC-T agreed that MDC-T is MDC Alliance @nelsonchamisa and they are giving the money to @DMwonzora despite the known votes and seats won by MDC-T in 2018. There is no fraud that beats this. Thats why we say MDC-T is captured by ZANU PF. Its a puppet political party

MDC Alliance Secretary-General, Chalton Hwende the move was meant to cripple MDC Alliance.

He said:

The law correctly says the money is due to MDC Alliance but @MthuliNcube will give it to Mwonzora because @edmnangagwa has decided. Using our own funds to undermine us pathetic

One Chabva weighed in:Maybe Komichi is not so wrong to say MDC Alliance is theirs because surely if they can be given money that is clearly stated is for MDC Alliance based on last election performance, what can that mean.Professor Mlambo said even if it was true that the money belonged to an amalgamation of parties, MDC-T was not giving the money to other members of the coalition.

He said:

Using Mwonzora camp’s reasoning, their MDC-T is receiving the money on behalf of the MDC Alliance (alliance of 7 parties). However, there is no proof that they have disbursed any of the money received to other parties such as PDP or MDC-N! MDC-T is stealing from Alliance!Atmos Gwabada suggested that the party led by Nelson Chamisa needs to seriously consider rebranding and adopting a new name

Allan Moyo Who Spend 72 Days In Detention Speaks On Prison Experience

By A Correspondent- University of Zimbabwe (UZ) student leader Allan Moyo says conditions in Zimbabwe’s prisons are deplorable, with a single cell packed with 80 people and some inmates contracting COVID-19.

The 23-year-old was held in pre-trial detention at Harare Central Prison for 70 days after the State repeatedly denied him bail.

Speaking during an interview with The NewsHawks this week, Moyo revealed the sorry conditions in the country’s correctional facilities.

He said:

It is not a romantic affair staying in the prison cells. We had cellmates who contracted COVID-19 and it was scary for some of us.

There were 80 people in a cell and because we were packed, no social distancing was observed. It was terrible.

Moyo said prison guards refused to allow his family to provide him with sanitiser and detergent during his inceration and he also had to share a cell with mental health patients.

He said:

My family bought sanitiser and detergent, but they were not allowed inside. It was by no means a pleasant affair at all.

Living with mental patients is difficult, it was torturous to the body to stay in that prison for that long.

Moyo said he came face to face with the reality of Zimbabwe’s incompetent and captured judicial system as his imprisonment turned from days to months.

He said the solidarity of his comrades and the love of his family kept him going.

Moyo is facing charges of inciting public violence after he allegedly addressed commuters at a bus rank in Harare last year, calling for a violent revolt against President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Man Caught By Wife Raping A Cow, Commits Suicide.

A man from Binga could not stomach the shame of being caught by his wife while committing bestiality with a cow and later committed suicide while the hapless wife watched in horror.
So traumatised was the man’s wife after her husband left her in the blankets early in morning, only to quench his sex desires with a cow. As if that was not enough, the woman will forever live with the picture of her man hanging himself right in front of her eyes. In a bid to convince him to reconsider taking his life, she reportedly told him that she will keep the “secret”, but all that fell on deaf ears.

Matabeleland North provincial police spokesperson Inspector Glory Banda confirmed the incident, describing it as a sudden death case.

“I can confirm a sudden death report involving a Binga man Joseph Tshuma from Kamwindi Village in Lusulu who hanged himself on 16 February 2021 after being caught by his wife, Senzeni Sibanda, committing bestiality with a cow. Since no foul play was suspected, a post-mortem was waived by Binga magistrate,” she said.

However, villagers in Kamwindi are still in shock. According to villagers, on the day, the 61-year-old Tshuma left his wife in bed at around 6am pretending to be going to check on his cattle in the kraal near the homestead.

While at the kraal, the man allegedly tied one of the cows on a pole and committed bestiality. Instinctively, his wife also decided to follow him ostensibly to check on one of the bulls which was sick the previous day. Villagers said when she got to the kraal, she almost collapsed after seeing her husband sexually abusing the animal.

“When Tshuma saw his wife, he just froze and could not even master the energy to say a word. The wife, unsure of how her husband will react, rushed back to the house in disbelief,” said a villager who refused to named.

It is said Tshuma out of shame, removed the rope that he was tying the cow with and shouted to his wife that he was going to hang himself. When she heard the threat, the wife rushed back to the kraal and started pleading with her husband not to kill himself, promising him that she will keep the incident a secret.

However, it is said Tshuma had already tied the rope around his neck and fastened it to a tree branch near the kraal. Upon realising that her husband would not budge, she started shouting for help from neighbours. However, before neighbours could arrive, Tshuma hung himself while his wife watched in disbelief.

It is said she tried to climb the tree with the hope of cutting the rope but failed and all she could do was to watch the last moments of her husband. When villagers later arrived, Tshuma was already lifeless, a source close to the family said. -Sunday News

“SA Lacks Will to Rescue Zimbabwe” – As We Lack Common Sense to Rescue Ourselves

Cyril Ramaphosa

Dear Tendai Dumbutshena

Thank you very much for yet another informative and thought provoking article, “SA lacks the will to rescue Zimbabwe.”

“But hope springs eternal. Giving up is not an option. The conscious elements of society must lead the struggle to change how the country is governed. All hands on deck. Civil society organisations, political parties, churches, youth formations and other stakeholders have a responsibility to fight for a country they can be proud to call their own. All this must be done with a clear understanding that change can only come from within Zimbabwe. Those foreigners of goodwill will take their cue from what Zimbabweans themselves do. Beware of envoys from Pretoria who come bearing gifts,” you said.

I do agree that hope springs eternal and that, if we are ever to get out of this mess, we must look to ourselves first and foremost and then look to the West. There will be no help coming from SADC, particularly from SA; not now.

The Chinese are the hidden nation banished in the dark ages back to wreck vengeance galore on Zimbabwe. The Chinese are the shadowy figure, the real power behind the Zanu PF dictatorship. Our fight for democratic change is not just against Zanu PF but, more significantly, against the mighty of the Chinese who are determined to keep Zanu PF in power come hell or high water for their own selfish economic advantage!

Our fight for democratic change is therefore going to be a tough one and to have an hope of victory, we must be tough and focused. To start with, we must be frank and honest about our own strengths and weaknesses.

“The putative unity government his (Thabo Mbeki) mediation yielded enabled Zanu-PF to outmanoeuvre a gullible MDC and reassert its dominance. With Zanu-PF now firmly in the saddle and the situation in the country “stable” the ANC is happy with the outcome,” you argued.

“To be fair to the much-maligned Zuma, when he took over the role of mediator in 2009, he mandated his two envoys to Zimbabwe to push for the creation of conditions for free and fair elections after the expiry of the unity government. That this did not happen was the fault of the unity government dominated by Zanu-PF, with the two MDC parties coopted as impotent junior partners.”

There were many things one could have done to improve Zimbabwe’s 2008 to 2013 GNU; I admit it. However, there was still a lot the GNU could and should have accomplished, most notably it could and should have implemented the raft of democratic reforms agreed in the 2008 Global Political Agreement.

Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC colleagues failed to implement even one token reform in five years of the GNU because they were corrupt and breathtakingly incompetent. By participating in flawed and illegal 2013 elections and all the elections thereafter MDC leaders and the rest in the opposition camp are giving credibility to the flawed election process and thus giving legitimacy to the vote rigging Zanu PF. Proof the failure to implement the reforms was not just a one off gaff by a gullible opposition.

What is more, the MDC leaders know participating in the flawed elections was wrong but did it anywhere out of greed as David Coltart, MDC A Treasurer General and Minister of Education in the GNU, admitted.

“The worst aspect for me about the failure to agree a coalition was that both MDCs couldn’t now do the obvious – withdraw from the (2013) elections,” wrote Senator Coltart.

“The electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility.”

What Coltart should have admitted that SADC leaders had warned him and his fellow MDC leaders of the folly of participated in the 2013 elections with no reforms. “If you go into elections next month, you are going to lose; the elections are done!” SADC leaders had warned.

Tsvangirai and company ignored SADC leaders’ advice and they would not do what they readily admit was “the obvious – withdraw from the elections” because they were after the few gravy train seats Zanu PF giving away a bait.

Of course, SADC leaders had no choice but to accept the vote rigging Zanu PF as the de facto government. What else could they have done after MDC leaders had ignored their warning!

As we speak Nelson Chamisa and his MDC A, Douglas Mwonzora and his MDC-T and all the other opposition politicians are all gearing to participate in the coming 2023 elections; they are all fully aware Zanu PF has not implemented even one token reform. Not one!

Like it or not Chamisa and his fellow opposition politicians claim that they are fighting for democracy and good governance on behave of the long suffering Zimbabweans. One is compelled to accept this foolishness, in the absence of a convincing counter narrative showing MDC leaders are corrupt, incompetent and sell-outs whose actions in the past and present are undermining the fight for reforms and democracy.

MDC leaders have long stopped fighting for democratic reforms and free, fair and credible elections. We need to stay it loud and clear so that the ordinary Zimbabweans who continue to follow MDC leaders like sheep to the slaughter understand it and stop.

The demand to implement the democratic reform BEFORE the next elections is frontline in the fight for freedom and human rights in Zimbabwe. Zanu PF is not going to implement any reforms because the party is confident the MDC leaders will participate in the elections and thus earning Zanu PF the de facto legitimacy. Our contour move is to make sure MDC leaders have no political credibility, if they ever again participate in flawed and illegal elections.

If the MDC were once upon a time the nation’s champions in the fight for democracy and good governance, it is now clear that they now have a separate agenda – they are after the few gravy train seats Zanu PF is offering as bait.

Our failure to accept MDC leaders are corrupt and incompetent has been one of our greatest weakness in our fight for a democratic Zimbabwe ever since the disastrous failure by MDC leaders to implement even one reform during the GNU!

Accepting MDC leaders are not the heroes and heroines we believed them to be is a bitter pill to swallow. Swallowing our misplace trust and blind loyalty will mean the nation stepping back from the brink!

Frankly we should have learned of the dangers of blind loyalty after seeing what became of the Zanu PF libration war heroes and heroines once they got into power. Of course, we have been blind not to see Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends for what they really are – corrupt, incompetent and sell-out – all these years! We must do so now!

“SA lacks the will to rescue Zimbabwe!” True but whether or not we have the will to rescue ourselves, depends on us opening our eyes and minds and finally admit to ourselves that MDC leaders are not going to rescue us.

Mnangagwa To Announce New Lockdown Measures…

THE current Level Four national lockdown lapses tomorrow with President Mnangagwa expected to announce new ordinances to balance the reopening of the economy and mitigating against further spread of Covid-19.

Since the current lockdown measures announced on February 15, the country has recorded a marked decrease in deaths and confirmed coronavirus cases, but observers warn that the country cannot afford to lower its guard as a third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic remains a possibility.

Deputy Chief Secretary in the Office of the President and Cabinet Mr George Charamba yesterday said President Mnangagwa will update the nation before the expiry of the lockdown.

“He is very conscious about that,” Mr Charamba, who is also Presidential spokesperson, said.

On Friday, the Ministry of Health and Child Care unveiled new guidelines authorising ministers and heads of local authorities to give exemptions, where necessary, for the reopening of departments under their ambit.

The guidelines, which are contained in Statutory Instrument 49 of 2021, are an amendment to Statutory Instrument 200 of 2020.

Part of SI 49 reads: “. . . (d) every Government establishment, and every local authority, shall be closed except to the extent directed by — (i) the responsible head of the Ministry or head of that establishment; or (ii) the mayor or chairperson or chief executive officer of the local authority concerned”- State media

June Exams Going Ahead, Says Minister

Cain Mathema

The Government has assured learners that this year’s Zimbabwe Schools Examination Council (Zimsec) June examinations will go ahead, noting the need for the education sector to adjust to the reality of Covid-19.
Schools in the country have remained closed for the first term after Government implemented a Level Four national lockdown, where only examination writing students were allowed back at school in January to complete their November national examinations.

Speaking during a press conference to announce the new Zimsec board last Wednesday, Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Cde Cain Mathema said despite schools having not yet opened for the first term, June examinations will go ahead as planned. He said it was inevitable that schools will eventually open for the first term and there will be implementation of a workplan that will see teachers preparing learners for all the scheduled examinations.

“What we have to accept is that Covid-19 is now a part of society and it is there to stay, therefore there is a need to ensure that all our programmes go ahead as scheduled and not allow Covid-19 to hinder us. It is therefore with this in mind that we say the June examinations will indeed go ahead as scheduled. When schools open there will be a clear schedule that will allow learners to adequately prepare for these exams,” said Minister Mathema.

He said there could be a slight shift of the examination dates to allow for adequate preparations for the students. The minister said they will soon be advising parents and learners on the planned dates, examination fees and deadlines for the payment of the examination fees.

Meanwhile, Minister Mathema said the ministry was working with all relevant stakeholders — inclusive of Zimsec and teachers’ unions — to ensure the smooth sailing of the school calendar.

“We are all ready and have put in place all the necessary preparations for the opening of schools and holding of the examinations. Our teams are busy as we speak, on the ground monitoring that all schools have in place the necessary measures to allow them to operate following the necessary Covid-19 protocols. The teachers’ unions have also assured us that teachers are also ready to go back to the classrooms therefore we can safely say that all is in place for the opening of schools for the first term, we are just waiting for guidance from President Mnangagwa regarding the Covid-19 lockdown measures, which will give us an idea on the actual opening dates,” said the minister.

Government continues to issue personal protective equipment and sanitisers to schools to ensure that when the date of reopening is announced, the schools’ environment will be safe for teachers, staff, parents and pupils.

Last week teams from the ministry were in Bulawayo to assess the readiness of schools in the province to reopen in line with Covid-19 prevention protocols. The ministry has in place standard operating procedures for all schools to protect learners, teachers and ancillary staff from the Covid-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, Government has recruited 3000 teachers ahead of the opening of schools for the first term. The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education said apart from the new teachers, it has also approved 600 lateral transfers to Harare and Bulawayo Metropolitan provinces. Among the new recruitments, specialist teachers in the indigenous languages of Shangani, Tonga, Venda and Nambya were also employed as Government moves to affirm its position on the teaching of indigenous languages.

This comes as the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development has also stepped-up efforts to the training of teachers to specialise in indigenous languages at various institutions in the country.

Director of communications in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, Mr Taungana Ndoro told Sunday News that more recruitments will be done when the Ministry assesses the situation prevailing at schools. According to a number of circulars sent to provincial education offices, the Ministry reportedly employed 1 940 infant teachers, 760 teachers for junior level, 261 teachers for secondary and 39 teachers for advanced level. -Sunday News

South Africa Gives Up On R37 Million Beitbridge Border Fence

The R37m 40km fence built along the border of SA and Zimbabwe will not be repaired despite the recommendations of the standing committee on public accounts (Scopa) – because it’s just not worth it.

This was according to a response on Friday by minister of public works and infrastructure, Patricia de Lille, to questions by the National Assembly.

The controversial 1.8m tall fence – jokingly referred to as the “washing line” because of its poor quality and the ease with which it can be breached – consists of six rolls of coiled razor wire and a razor wire grid erected over three weeks by Magwa Construction.

The company was carrying out maintenance work at the Beitbridge border post when the national lockdown was declared in late March.

In May, De Lille told MPs that the fence had been up barely a day before it was breached.

On April 20, she had requested an investigation by the auditor-general and five days later asked the public works anti-corruption unit to investigate, assisted by SIU members seconded to the department. The investigation revealed a litany of incompetence and wrongdoing in the construction and recommended disciplinary action against 14 government officials.

Questions relating to the rectifying of fence defects, the delays with compliance of the orders, the disciplinary action against the contractors and their existing contracts with the department were put to the minister on February 11.

The Beitbridge border fence between SA and Zimbabwe. File photo.

De Lille said an accounting officer had performed a detailed technical condition assessment of the fence and the outcome was found to be against the recommendations of Scopa – which was to rectify all physical defects in the fence “in line with all applicable regulations”.

“As the fence, in its current form, is not fit for purpose and in material non-compliance with the specifications, the department has taken a decision not to entertain the possibility of any further repairs of the fence.

“Any further border fence initiatives will be located in the context of the integrated border management solution under way. In this regard, the site clearance process is aimed at being completed by June this year.”

She said a best practice approach on border security, in consultation with the department of defence, would be published by the end of March 2021.

De Lille said security vetting for supply chain management personnel was a lengthy process and the reason was that only seven vetting officials had to vet 253 bids.

She described a protracted process, which included completing lengthy documents, after which officers had to go and interview the official being vetted, compile a report, as well as undertake a polygraph test. Once this was completed, the files had to go to security clearance, which could take up to a year to process.

The controversial R37m fence on the border between SA and Zimbabwe.

But the department had requested that the vetting files be a top priority at the State Security Agency (SSA).

Regarding disciplinary action towards the principal contractor, De Lille said it was recommended that the principal agent and the main contractor be restricted from doing business with the government, subject to the Treasury agreeing that their engagement with the department was irregular.

She said there was a delay in the evidence being released before the Restriction Committee and Authority (RCAA), as the chairperson of the RCAA was one of the officials cited in the report and subject to disciplinary action.

On February 26, the RCAA issued letters to the contractor and consultant asking why the department should not recommend to the National Treasury that they be restricted from doing business with the state.

The authority has given the service providers 14 days to provide their written representations and estimates that the process will be finalised by mid-March.

“At this stage, the department has not identified any justifiable grounds to terminate the existing contracts, as these contracts have been duly awarded. However, the department is reviewing these contracts through its internal audit unit.

“The department is further seeking legal advice as to whether the conduct of the respective companies in relation to the Beitbridge contract constitutes sufficient grounds to seek termination of their remaining contracts with the department. The matter is under legal review.”

Man Impregnates Own Daughter

A father straight from hell. This can aptly describe a man from Dete in Hwange who has been arrested for allegedly raping and impregnating his 17-year-old daughter.
Police confirmed the arrest of the 38-year-old father (name withheld to protect identity of the victim) who took advantage of the absence of his wife to rape his daughter without protection. Three weeks later, fearing that her daughter might be pregnant from his callous act, he bought pills which he wanted the teenager to drink and terminate the pregnancy.

Matabeleland North provincial police spokesperson Inspector Glory Banda said the man was arrested last week.

“I can confirm that we have arrested a 38-year-old male from Dete who allegedly raped and impregnated his 17-year-old daughter. Circumstances are that on an unknown date but in October last year the complainant and her sibling aged nine were sitting together with the accused person. They decided to retire to bed with the accused also going to sleep in his room. During the course of the night the complainant woke up when she felt something on top of her,” said Insp Banda.

She said the girl, feeling sexually abused as well, pushed the person on top of her away before switching on her torch and to her shock, she noticed her father tiptoeing out of the room. On the following day she asked her father why he had raped her, but he denied the charge. However, three weeks later, the accused gave the complainant three pills to drink “to avoid pregnancy” and she did as instructed.

“In November 2020 the complainant told her mother about the rape and everything that had transpired while she was away. However, the matter only came to light on 8 February 2021 through an anonymous tip-off from a member of the community.

Investigations were carried out leading to the location of the complainant who revealed the offence resulting in the accused’s arrest. The complainant is now pregnant,” said Inspector Banda. -Sunday News

Nation Shall Be Transformed By Givers- President Chamisa

Tinashe Sambiri|Zimbabwe needs transformational leaders who are givers not takers, MDC Alliance leader, President Nelson Chamisa has said.

There are two types types of leaders who hold public office, givers and takers, according to President Chamisa.

The MDC Alliance leader has also indicated that he is unmoved by the defection of Senator Lilian Timveos and Hon Blessing Chebundo to Zanu PF.

Writing on Twitter President Chamisa, blasted selfish and leaders corrupt leaders:

“It has dawned on me that public office is accessed by two different types of leaders; those who are in it for what they can give and those who are in it for what they can take.

Transformational leaders are givers not takers.

Zimbabwe shall be transformed by givers.

Man Impregnates Physically Challenged Girl

VILLAGERS in Ndapfunya Village under Chief Makoni’s have come out guns blazing as they demand justice for a physically challenged teenager who was allegedly raped and impregnated by a 51-year-old villager last year in September.

The police have said the net is closing on the culprit, Shingirai Rundoro.

A neighbour, Tiriwashe Ndapfunya, said Rundoro needs to be convicted.

“My heart is bleeding because I am a parent who also have children to care for. The teenager who was raped is being looked after by her visually impaired father and poor mother. She is only 18-years-old.

“Rundoro took advantage of her disability and raped her. If he loved her like he wants people to believe, why did he disappear after committing the offence?” said Ndapfunya.

Another villager, Chido Bverekwa, called on organisations that advocates for the rights of the girl child and people living with disabilities to intervene and assist the teen and her family.

“This girl’s family is in dire need of assistance,” she said.

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luxson Chananda, confirmed the incident, saying Rundoro vanished soon after committing the crime last year.

“We have heard of the case and investigations are in progress. Sometime in September last year, the accused lifted the teenager from her wheelchair and raped her twice on different occasions during the same month, taking advantage of her vulnerability. Her mother had left her unattended when she was abused. It seems the accused knew that the teenager was alone and pounced on her,” he said.

“We are investigating the matter and the accused is still on the run. We are appealing to members of the public with information leading to the arrest of the accused to contact their nearest police station,” said Inspector Chananda.- Manica Post

Tinashe Sambiri|MDC MDC Alliance vice president, Hon Tendai Biti has denounced the persecution of human rights activist Makomborero Haruvizishe by Mr Mnangagwa’s administration.

Writing on Twitter, Hon Biti called for the immediate release of Makomborero Haruvizishe.

Rentals Now A Nightmare For Citizens

Zimbabwe urban house rentals now very expensive

The United Nations predicts that by 2050 ,seventy percent of the
population in Africa will be living in urban areas hence there will be many
challenges ,risks as well as opportunities which comes with the
urbanization.

All of a sudden the rentals in urban areas particularly in
Harare have become a nightmare.

Landlords/landladies should
charge affordable rentals as this will result in the positive development
for economic growth and stability.

The Estate Agents Council of Zimbabwe should play a fundamental
obligation to protect the citizens from unscrupulous landlords and bogus
agents who are robbing people daily.

We need to come up with realistic
valuation of rentals while contemplating on the vitally important factors.A
systematic approach must be implemented especially in Harare whereby
the government and the relevant stakeholders ought to set rental
benchmarks.

The rentals prices are increasing every month
due to the greediness by landlords and lack of principles to be adhered.

Be
that as it may, this exponentially rise in rentals is not triggered by the
shortage of the houses in Harare since many people are building their own
houses.

Most people are in dire situation because their disposable income is being
heavily eroded by the rentals and the cost of living is escalating on monthly
basis.

Lets have a collective engagement and consider the Rent Act in
Zimbabwe.

Thousands and thousands of people are losing their hard
earned income through the illegal agents who are charging exorbitant
prices of 50usd before viewing a property and you will surely have the
shock of your life to discover a fowl run instead of an habitable
house.Eventually the search will end in vain and agony.

In some of the areas around Harare, the agents are teaming up with the
landlords and develop a strong rapport to an extent of obtaining a kickback
without the knowledge of the tenant for instance a full house in Southerton
might costs an average price of 300usd,the agent top up another 100usd
and equates at 400usd per month.

This unregistered agent will get 100usd
per month without the sweaty equity.

The registered estates agents have been cornered by the unlicensed
agents and the market is now congested.

Innovative young entrepreneurs
need to think outside the box and bring up a sophisticated and disruptive
system proposition which tracks illegal real estate agents to protect the
local property rental market.Uncounted real estate frauds cases are being
reported every day at police across Harare and other cities.

I am just a microphone of the innocent people who are wailing and grieving
without consolation. It is my utmost request for the relevant stakeholders to
take some steps towards the addressing of these problems.

Man On The Run After Impregnating Physically Challenged Girl

  • Hwende has secretly approached Mwonzora for a deal to secure a car.
  • National Interests first.

https://youtu.be/eApHlBoYwvQ

By Memory Mbondiya(transcript): As soon as we open Parliament a new law is being passed that they will not be any byelections anymore.

So if people like Lilian Timveous come through, she will go straight for Amos Chibaya’s Mukoba constituency. She will be the MP for Mukoba with immediate effect.

So you need to move with speed and guess what, Hwende of all people went to negotiate with Mwonzora to say, “yes you took my seat, please make sure I do not lose my car.”

Lily let me tell you, people are so cunning I am telling you. So the issue of the car you should know that they are some hard cores who will pretend like they are staying with Nelson Chamisa, but negotiate with Mwonzora in silence. we will make an exception with these to say one two three four people have come back to MDC T, so on the issue of their cars you should let them off, so the lawyers should out everything on hold, the issue of harassing people concerning cars so it is something that you don’t have to worry. so you should now take effort to come and negotiate but as it stands I tell you already that they will not be an election at all.

Do you think that if we get 2023 even MDC T, is ready for an election? There is nothing like that, so, the situation is terrible my bhururu-friend. So we had a fruitful meeting. I think things are taking shape you just need to take a decision at the end of the day, to take a bold decision like: this is what I’m going to do, it’s about me and my family because every other person is looking out for themselves, because they are selfish people and the are negotiating behind-the-scenes you are left behind the scenes, so make a move my sister.

Listen well Lily, don’t relent at all, don’t fail to talk to Douglas Mwonzora because he said the most important thing people should not worry about positions in the party because we shall go to the ordinary Congress for now what we need to do is to secure a position in Parliament or in the Senate or in the government.

Once you have secured a position you will have even funds to enable you to campaign for the next stage of posts. But where we want to take the party forward is we want loads of positions that people can scamble for to win, rather than going to an election because we know if one person of such and such a faction, if they win the whole slate, isn’t it you know what happens at congress? The whole slate of that person is the one that enters. So sometimes it is not worth it so the most important thing is to secure your slate first and then you will fight for your position later. Which position? The one at the party level, but as of now, we are looking at national interests. Do you see now? Politics at the national level rather than at a party level so that is where we are. | FULL STORY ON WWW.ZIMEYE.COM

Lower Gweru Woman Fatally Assaults 8yr Old Daughter With Sjambok

A mother from Lower Gweru, Midlands Province has been arrested for allegedly fatally assaulting her eight-year-old daughter with a sjambok after she went to play with her friends at a neighbour’s homestead.

According to police, the incident happened in Matshaya Village, Chief Sogwala in Lower Gweru, on Wednesday afternoon.

Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said Maria Ruhwizhi (38) assaulted her daughter with a whip all over her body resulting in her death. Said Mahoko:

Police are investigating a murder case in which an eight-year-old girl died after being assaulted by her mother.

The now deceased girl was assaulted by her mother Maria Ruhwizhi who used a black leather sjambok on her all over her body.

Insp Mahoko urged parents to desist from using too much force when disciplining their children as this leads to unnecessary loss of life.

In another development, a Grade 4 pupil at Peakmine Primary School in Shurugwi was electrocuted on Monday evening when he opened a cage to feed chicks. Electricity was connected to give light to the chicks.

Insp Mahoko said Kupakwashe Chakanyuka, from Shurugwi, was electrocuted when he tried to open the cage.-statemedia

ED Spends Over R2m Rands On Galvanising Mbuya Nehanda Statue

By A Correspondent- President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government spent over two million Rand on galvanising the Mbuya Nehanda statue currently under construction in central Harare.

The material was imported from South Africa around November last year. The cost of the galvanised steel and transporting it to Harare cost an estimated US$100 000.

According to a leaked letter written by the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) responding to a request by the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works for a duty-free exemption certificate and dated 17 November 2020, the galvanised steel weighed 64 tonnes.

The letter read:

REQUEST FOR A DUTY-FREE EXEMPTION CERTIFICATE FOR CONSTRUCTION WORKS: MBUYA NEHANDA STATUE

It is hereby certified that the undermentioned consumption materials and […] goods are specifically for use by the Zimbabwe CRSG Construction Pvt Limited and are also provided for in terms of Statutory Instrument Number 154 of 2001, Part XIII subsection 114G of the Customs and excise and in terms of Section 137 of the Customs and Excise (General Regulations). Accordingly, a duty-free certificate for the following is granted…

The Local Government Ministry was granted permission to import galvanised steel weighing 64 000kgs valued at 2 184 575.44 Rand.

Penhalonga Woman Initiates Over 20 Minors Into Satanism

By A Correspondent- A 22 year old local resident of Acacia, Penhalonga, is alleged to have initiated at least 25 children into a Satanic cult.

The woman allegedly befriends the children before luring them into the occult world.

Last week a 12-year-old girl fell into a trance and declared that she and 25 other children in the area had been initiated into Satanism by the woman (name withheld).

The 12-year girl reportedly slithered like a snake when an alleged evil spirit manifested through her.

A few minutes before the manifestation, the minor physically attacked her father who sought to restrain her from visiting their neighbour’s residence.

Speaking to The Manica Post, the child’s father, (name withheld to protect the identity of the minor), narrated what had happened to her daughter.

He said:

My child went to play at our neighbour’s house and when she came back, she was behaving weirdly.

She was putting on different clothes from the ones she had gone wearing. When I asked our neighbour to return my daughter’s clothes, she refused to surrender them.

I even visited our neighbour to collect the clothes, but I was told that she had soaked them. I demanded to be given the wet clothes.

That night my daughter was making strange sounds. She was also telling us hard to believe stories of how she was now part of our neighbour’s Satanic cult.

She claimed that our neighbour is the queen of the cult, while 25 other minors from our neighbourhood are the maids.

She says during one of their meetings, our neighbour instructed her to kill me or one of her brothers.

Two other girls in the same neighbourhood reportedly had similar manifestations and accused the same woman of recruiting them into the occult.

A local resident, Emilio Magaso said the woman was not new to controversy and they had long suspected that she had a mermaid spirit.

However, the alleged Satanist denied the allegations during an interview with The Manica Post.

She said the families who accused her of Satanism were jealousy of her and that was why the children were having weird experiences.

ED Woes Mount

By A Correspondent- President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government is struggling to raise US$1.75 billion to compensate former commercial white farmers who lost their farms under the land reform programme, Business Times reports.

Under the agreement signed at State House in July last year, Zimbabwe agreed to pay US$3.5 billion as compensation to former commercial white farmers for improvements made on the land before it was compulsorily acquired at the turn of the Millenium.

The agreement says that the government has to pay half of the US$3.5 billion as a deposit five months from now, and the balance is to be paid in four-year instalments of US$437.5m per year.

Zimbabwe had planned to raise the amount by issuing a bond in the international capital markets to raise US$3.5 billion but this has not happened.

Speaking to Business Times, Commercial Farmers Union of Zimbabwe (CFU) president Andrew Pascoe said they haven’t received any money from the government.

He said:

In terms of money, no payment has been done to date and we are not sure if the US$1.75bn can come through within the agreed time frame.

We will see how it goes in the next few months and seek the government’s audience on the way forward.

We are still negotiating with the government over a number of issues in the agreement and no lasting solution has been reached.

Economist John Robertson said it would be difficult for the government to raise the US$1.75 billion between now and the end of July this year as the country is under a huge debt burden, has a high import bill and is failing to capacitate farmers, manufacturers and miners.

He  said:

The raising of bonds implies a promise to repay and it is likely that the country won’t get support until we carry out reforms to restore our productive capacity. We have no way of repaying new debts when the existing debts are beyond us.

Meanwhile, the publication said it failed to get a comment from Finance minister, Mthuli Ncube, and permanent secretary, George Guvamatanga as their mobile numbers were not picked when called.

Lands, Agriculture, Water, Fisheries and Rural Settlement Minister, Anxious Masuka referred all questions to the ministry’s permanent secretary, John Basera, whose mobile phone also went unanswered.

Learners Dropping Out Of School Due To Pregnancy Increase

By A Correspondent- The number of learners falling pregnant and dropping out of school is increasing despite the existence of the Education Amendment Act, a law that allows pregnant girls to continue with their normal schooling activities.

The trend is more prevalent among pupils sitting for ‘O’ and ‘A’ level examinations but of late, girls from as young as Grade 7 are getting pregnant.

Speaking in the National Assembly recently, Priscilla Misihairabwi-Mushonga, who is the Primary and Secondary Education Parliamentary Portfolio Committee chairperson, revealed that the numbers are increasing and in some cases doubling.

She said: It was estimated that the cases had more than doubled and follow-ups on these cases had not yielded positive results as parents felt that once a child is pregnant, they have no educational future.

… At Magwegwe High, almost every child that the Committee interacted with knew of a colleague that was pregnant.

At Bondamakare High School, about 10 girls got married. At Bosbury Primary School, 2 grade seven pupils got pregnant and dropped out of school.

Last year some civic society organisations petitioned Parliament to put in place laws that would allow children to access contraceptives.

The move was reportedly meant to prevent teen pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases among others.

However, the idea is not universally acceptable considering that Zimbabwe is a conservative and deeply religious nation.

In 2015, similar efforts were made under the banner of ‘Condomise Zimbabwe’ but were flatly rejected by parents.

Musona Assures Fans He Will Be Available For AFCON Qualifiers

Knowledge Musona’s availability for the Warriors’ Afcon Qualifiers against Botswana and Zambia in late March has for the past weeks been in doubt following an ankle injury sustained in January.

The Warriors captain is still out of action and recently started light training.

Despite the situation, he was included in the preliminary squad for the games announced on Thursday but coach Zdravko Logarusic pointed out that the forward could still be withdrawn from the selection if he fails to recover in time.

The 30-year old, however, is optimistic he will return to full fitness before the qualifiers and be available for national duty next month.

Responding to some of his followers on Twitter who had asked when he is returning to action, Musona didn’t give the time frame but said he will be available for the games against Botswana and Zambia.- Soccer 24 Zimbabwe

COVID-19 And Chronic Diseases: The Facts

No matter what’s going on in the world, maintaining a healthy, whole foods–focused diet is important for blood sugar management.

If you’ve been keeping up with federal guidance on who’s at a higher risk for complications from COVID-19, you know that people with diabetes are among the affected groups.

People older than 60, along with those who have underlying health conditions such as respiratory problems, high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity, and cancer are also at a higher risk for serious illness from the novel coronavirus, notes the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Furthermore, non-Hispanic Black Americans, Hispanics, and Asian Americans, all of whom have higher rates of both diagnosed and undiagnosed diabetes than white Americans, per the National Diabetes Statistics Report, are also at higher risk for serious COVID-19 disease, including complications and death, as has been widely reported.

Yet it’s still unclear whether diabetes can leave a person at an elevated risk of getting infected in the first place, notes the American Diabetes Association (ADA). This is apparently true despite research, including a review published in the Indian Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism, showing that the immune systems of people with persistent hyperglycemia (higher than normal blood glucose, or sugar) are impaired.

Scientific Research Linking Diabetes and COVID-19 Complications
People with type 1 and type 2 diabetes are both three to four times more likely to develop serious COVID-19 disease and be hospitalized than those who don’t have diabetes, according to a study published online in December 2020 in Diabetes Care. A small preliminary study published in the March 2020 issue of Diabetes Metabolism Research and Reviews provides more insight into what’s affecting the severity. It looked at 174 people in Wuhan, China, and concluded that people with COVID-19 and diabetes but without other comorbidities were at a higher risk for severe pneumonia and the inflammation that contributes to an accelerated progression of COVID-19 and a worse prognosis.

What You Need to Know About COVID-19 if You Have Lupus
From Nose to Toes, the List of COVID-19 Symptoms Keeps Growing
Another study, which was published in April 2020 the Journal of Diabetes Science and Technology, analyzed 1,122 people at 88 hospitals in 11 U.S. states, and drew a link between diabetes and a fourfold increased risk of dying from COVID-19. Glytec, a provider of insulin software management, funded the research.

A study published online in May 2020 in Cell Metabolism supports these findings. For this cohort study, researchers analyzed the health data of 7,337 people in Wuhan with and without type 2 diabetes. They observed an association between having diabetes and an increased risk of dying from COVID-19.

Those with stable blood sugar levels had a better prognosis than those with diabetes whose blood sugar control was poor. In fact, the survival rate for those with good blood sugar control was nearly 99 percent, compared with an 11 percent death rate among those whose control was considered poor. Participants’ blood sugar levels were measured using postprandial and fasting blood glucose tests. The authors defined poor blood sugar control as tending to exceed 180 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL), and well-controlled blood sugar as ranging from 70 to 180 mg/dL

Diabetes Complications Can Increase Risk of Severe Illness From COVID-19
Still, having complications related to diabetes, along with increasing age, may matter more than blood sugar control, suggested a study published in April 2020 in Diabetologia, which analyzed 1,317 people admitted to 53 French hospitals during a three-week period in March 2020. Study authors concluded that 10 percent of people with diabetes admitted to a hospital died within 10 days, and that men were more likely to die than women. The main contributing factors to death were having complications including neuropathy and heart disease, having a high body mass index (BMI) —indicating obesity — and being older. Patients between ages 65 and 74 were three times more likely to die than individuals younger than 55.

People with type 2 diabetes are definitely at higher risk of COVID-19 complications and death, but those with type 1 or gestational diabetes may also be at higher risk, according to recent guidance by the CDC. In the French study, 3 percent of admitted patients had type 1 diabetes, while 89 percent had type 2 diabetes. The remainder of diabetes patients had other types of the disease.

Black people who have type 1 diabetes and COVID-19 may be especially vulnerable to worse outcomes because they are more likely to present with diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), a condition that causes the blood to become acidic and that can be life-threatening in its own right. A study published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism in December 2020 found that 55 percent of Black clinic patients and 33 percent of Hispanic patients presented with DKA, compared with only 13 percent of white patients. “The shared risk of COVID-19 and DKA in type 1 diabetes worsens the short-term and long-term prognosis for Black and Hispanic patients,” said the study authors, also noting that “previous studies have demonstrated an increased risk of DKA among minority populations with type 1 diabetes.”

Understanding COVID-19 and Its Symptoms

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that cause diseases including the common cold, but also more severe illnesses, such as Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS); severe acute respiratory syndrome ( SARS); and COVID-19, which first became known at the end of 2019 during an outbreak in the city of Wuhan in China’s Hubei province and has since developed into a global pandemic.

According to the WHO, common symptoms of COVID-19 include:

Fever
Tiredness
Dry cough
Aches and pains
Nasal congestion
Runny nose
Sore throat
Loss of taste or smell
Skin rashes
Pain in the muscles or joints
Discolored fingers or toes
Diarrhea
Some infected people have no symptoms at all, but they can still spread the virus.

The CDC describes the emergency warning signs for COVID-19 in adults as:

Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
Persistent pain or pressure in the chest
New confusion or inability to wake up or stay awake
Bluish lips or face
Inability to rouse or stay awake
If you are experiencing these symptoms, call 911 or call ahead to the hospital and let them know you are seeking care for COVID-19 or may have it, the CDC advises.

If you are interested in getting a test and want to know how to proceed, contact your local or state health department. The CDC lists state and territorial departments, and the National Association of County and City Health Officials has a directory you can use to find your local department.

For most people, the disease is mild, and many don’t develop symptoms at all. A South Korean study published in August 2020 in JAMA Internal Medicine looked at young people, the vast majority of whom were healthy, and found that 30 percent of those infected with the virus causing COVID-19 never developed symptoms at all. COVID-19 symptoms are mild for most others, although 10–15 percent of infected people do become seriously ill, and 5 percent become critically ill, according to WHO. Mortality estimates vary, but a New York–based study published in October 2020 in the Journal of Hospital Medicine found that 7.6 percent of hospitalizations resulted in death in August, down from 25.6 percent in March, when infection began to spread in the United States.

It’s important to note that the risk of death from COVID-19 is far greater than from influenza (flu), a disease it is frequently compared with. More than 340,000 people died of COVID-19 in the United States in 2020, according to CDC data. In contrast, the nation loses between 12,000 and 61,000 people per year to influenza, reports the CDC.

We Will Never Abandon The People- Advocate Mahere

Tinashe Sambiri|MDC Alliance national spokesperson, Advocate Fadzayi Mahere has said joining the evil Zanu PF regime is not a progressive option.

According to Advocate Mahere, the MDC Alliance will never abandon the people.

“Crossing party floors is the democratic right of any politician or citizen.

But a floor we will never cross as the MDC Alliance is the floor that leaves the people behind.

We will not forsake the people to join looters and violent persecutors of those who speak truth to power.

While everyone is free to join any political party, Zanu PF is never a progressive option.

History & the people will judge those who enable a system that has caused untold suffering to the masses.

We are clear – Zanu PF is the problem. Zanu PF must go,” wrote Advocate Mahere on Facebook.

PICTURE: Zanu PF Continues to Breach COVID-19 Lockdown Rules, Holds Another Rally in Gutu.

Today, the ruling ZANU-PF party held another rally in Gutu North, Ward 9 in breach of lockdown regulations which limit public gatherings to less than 30 people.

Today’s rally comes barely two days after President Emmerson Mnangagwa gathered an almost similar crowd when he went to Gwayi-Shangani to officially launch the construction of a pipeline that will feed water to Bulawayo.

Local human rights lobby group, Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum questioned the selective application of the law saying only one party is being allowed to hold political gatherings when everyone else is not allowed.

“Selective application of the law should be condemned. Zimbabweans are equal under the law. Why should one political entity freely hold meetings and another be persecuted for the same? We demand universal application of the law and condemn violations of the same,” queried NGO Forum.

Report Suggests Mohadi Was Recorded By CIOs To Stop His Shenanigans With Women

SPYWARE developed by Israeli technology company Circles was used by Zimbabwe’s Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) to record Vice-President Kembo Mohadi’s sleazy calls and messages to a harem of women — some of them married — in a sensational sex scandal which rocked and shook the corridors of power in Harare.

Intelligence sources told The NewsHawks this week that the real significance of the Mohadi sexcapade is not just that it demonstrates the Zimbabwean leadership’s broken moral compass and rotten integrity, but also that citizens are vulnerable to state espionage intrusions, invasion of privacy and even the danger of being located by trailing spooks using Israeli cyberespionage technologies for political reasons.

Mohadi is by no means the only top politician in Zimbabwe who has lost his moral compass.

The top executive — the presidium comprising President Emmerson Mnangagwa, co-Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga and Mohadi himself — has a sordid record regarding women as public office-holders, which makes them morally bankrupt leaders.

Mnangagwa has always been associated with a retinue of women and has countless children. But the late journalist Godfrey Majonga’s excruciating saga was the public highlight of his dramatic personal life.

Majonga was reportedly forced by Mnangagwa to jump from a high-rise apartment in the Avenues in Harare, which got him crippled for the rest of his life, over a girlfriend.

Chiwenga’s record with women, especially his estranged wife Marry, has caused public outrage, particularly how he has subjected her to arrests, detentions and medical treatment, as well as bank account complications during their nasty divorce.

And now Mohadi’s immoral adventures have refocused public scrutiny on them.

All of these cases smack of abuse of power and moral depravity that have compromised their suitability and capacity to govern.

Mohadi’s case has brought the issue to the fore.

“Mohadi was recorded by CIO. Our intelligence services, especially CIO and military intelligence, have technological capabilities to record calls, messages, snoop emails and locate people through their smartphones. The technology came from Israeli and China, but the Israeli one is far the superior, effective and deadlier,” an intelligence source told The NewsHawks.

“Intelligence services in Zimbabwe record almost everyone, including those around the President. Remember the First Lady (Auxillia Mnangagwa)’s angry call outburst with Murombo (Colonel Samson Murombo was Commander of 1 Presidential Guard Battalion based at Josiah Magama Tongogara Barracks, formerly KGVI Barracks) in Harare, which is responsible for securing the President and State House).

“Mohadi was recorded by CIO and the recordings were circulated to our bosses internally and then leaked to the media. The President (Emmerson Mnangagwa) and CIO director-general (Isaac Moyo) were fully aware of the recordings. Moyo got the recordings from his technical team and shared them with Mnangagwa. The leaks were later done by CIO analysts for political reasons; to expose and stop Mohadi from brazen abuse of office and embarrassing the government. The idea was not to remove him from office, but to contain him. That is why Mnangagwa didn’t force him out even if he could have done so. The best way to contain Mohadi was to expose and stop him. Some people close to him had previously raised these issues with him before all this, but he didn’t listen. So CIO went all out to stop him through this operation by leaking the recordings strategically (there are actually many of them), especially because one of their officers was involved; married women and young girls were also entangled in it.

“So in short, this was a CIO operation to stop the marauding Vice-President, who was acting like a bull in a China shop, from abusing office and tarnishing the image of government, but political vultures were already circling over his potential political carcass, which was an unintended consequence. The predators or vultures still see an opportunity.”

While a bruished Mohadi came out this week to incoherently claim that the recordings were “fake”, “hacked” and “cloned” — which cannot all be true at the same time — it has emerged he was recorded and exposed by the CIO using the Israeli spying technology, sources say.

Circles spyware is sold to nation-states only.

Zimbabwe is one of the 25 countries in the world using the technology.

Other nations using it include Australia, Belgium, Botswana (Directorate of Intelligence and Security Services), Chile (Investigations Police), Denmark (Army Command), Ecuador, El Salvador, Estonia, Equatorial Guinea, Guatemala (General Directorate of Civil Intelligence), Honduras (National Directorate and Intelligence), Indonesia, Israel, Kenya, Malaysia, Mexico (Mexican Navy; State of Durango), Morocco (Ministry of Interior), Nigeria (Defence Intelligence Agency), Peru (National Intelligence Directorate), Serbia (Security Information Agency), Thailand (Internal Security Operations Command; Military Intelligence Batallion, Narcotics Suppression Bureau), United Arab Emirates (Supreme Council of National Security, Dubai Government and Royal Group), Vietnam and Zambia.

Zimbabwe, under Mnangagwa, has developed closer relations with Israel. Part of the Israeli telecoms surveillance software was acquired by Mnangagwa in 2018. The first was secured in 2013. The third more recently.

Last August, Mnangagwa appointed Israeli citizen Ronny Levi Musan as Zimbabwe’s honorary consul in Israel.

This signalled strengthening diplomatic relations between the two countries amid a major policy shift away from Zanu PF’s long-standing support for Palestinians.

To facilitate spying, Zimbabwe has an Interception of Communications Act that enables monitoring of people’s calls and messages.

It is also working on a new Cyber Security and Data Protection Bill to reinforce its capacity to snoop on citizens.

In a recent report titled Running in Circles: Uncovering the Clients of Cyberespionage firm Circles, the University of Toronto’s Citizen Lab — which investigates digital espionage against civil society — details how the 25 governments around the world are using tools developed by Circles to snoop.

Its technology intercepts data from 3G networks, allowing the infiltrator to read messages, emails, and listen in on phone calls as they occur.

Using only a telephone number, a Circles platform can also identify the location of a phone anywhere in the world within seconds without a warrant.

Intelligence sources say Zimbabwe’s security services — especially CIO — uses the software to snoop on citizens, mainly those in strategic positions holding sensitive information inside the system, opposition activists and influential individuals.

The CIO has many files on opposition and civic activists that it is keeping under surveillance, mainly for state security and political reasons.

“Three Circles platforms were detected in Zimbabwe. The use of one dates back to 2013, while another was activated in March 2018,” the Canadian investigation report says.

“The Zimbabwean government has long targeted its critics and opponents. Last year, investigative journalist Hopewell Chin’ono and opposition politician Jacob Ngarivhume were detained ahead of anti-government protests. Circles technology may be facilitating this repression.”

Intelligence sources have repeatedly told The NewsHawks that Ngarivhume and Chin’ono, including main opposition MDC Alliance political activists like Job Sikhala and Fadzayi Mahare, were targeted as the security believes they are part of the nondescript July 31 Movement which they say wants to overthrow Mnangagwa through a popular uprising.

As internet penetration and smartphone usage increase across Africa, including in Zimbabwe, digital spaces have become the new democratic struggle battleground increasingly important in organising opposition movements, the report says.

In response, several governments have at times shut down the internet or blocked social media apps. Zimbabwe in January 2019 shut down the internet amid social unrest sweeping the country.

More recently, however, some regimes have turned to digital surveillance technology for more subtle ways to crush resistance. Zimbabwe is doing just that.

“Using Internet scanning, we found a unique signature associated with the hostnames of Check Point firewalls used in Circles deployments. This scanning enabled us to identify Circles deployments in at least 25 countries,” the report says.

“We determine that the governments of the following countries are likely Circles customers: Australia, Belgium, Botswana, Chile, Denmark, Ecuador, El Salvador, Estonia, Equatorial Guinea, Guatemala, Honduras, Indonesia, Israel, Kenya, Malaysia, Mexico, Morocco, Nigeria, Peru, Serbia, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates, Vietnam, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

“Some of the specific government branches we identify with varying degrees of confidence as being Circles customers have a history of leveraging digital technology for human rights abuses. In a few specific cases, we were able to attribute the deployment to a particular customer, such as the Security Operations Command of the Royal Thai Army, which has allegedly tortured detainees.”

Circles reportedly exploits weaknesses in the global mobile phone system to snoop on calls, texts, and the location of phones around the globe.

It is affiliated with NSO Group, which develops the oft-abused Pegasus spyware.

NSO Group Technologies is an Israeli technology firm whose spyware Pegasus enables remote surveillance of smartphones.

It was founded in 2010 by Niv Carmi, Shalev Hulio and Omri Lavie, hence NSO. It is based in Herzliya, near Tel Aviv, Israel.

Circles, whose products work without hacking the phone itself, says it only sells its spying software to nation-states.

According to leaked documents seen by the investigators, Circles clients can purchase a system that they connect to their local telecoms companies’ infrastructure, or can use a separate system called the “Circles Cloud,” which interconnects with telecoms companies around the world.

Its spyware has been widely used on human rights defenders and journalists.

UZ Student Laments Deplorable Prison Conditions

Drama As Police Flee Mapostori

Unit H shops

By A Correspondent- Police officers in Chitungwiza yesterday ran for dear life after they were beaten up by Mapostori in Unit H, Seke.

The police officers who, according to residents, are in the habit of demanding bribes from citizens and small business owners operating during the Lockdown were attacked and they took to their heels.

Unit H shops

Said a source who spoke on condition of anonymity:

“They came as usual and they threw teargas inside one of the bars at Unit H shopping centre after they failed to get a bribe. They wanted to arrest one of the man whom they accused of violating lockdown regulations by selling beer through the window.

The man ran away and they followed him “mumusha”, the name given to the area where mapostori reside. This did not go down well with mapostori who feel their area is holy and such acts were a violation of their privacy.

Mapostori came out in their usual numbers and started beating up the police officers who took to their heels. They were attacked left right and centre and they ran like a leopard chasing the wind.

They called for reinforcement and came back with anti riot police officers. These were also attacked by stones and it took a while for them to disperse the angry and agitated crowds that had gathered siding with mapostori.

After realising that they were fighting a losing battle, the anti riot police details went away and came back later targeting individuals from the area. They went around the homes breaking down doors and windows where they suspected that there was someone inside. They arrested people including minors and over 60 people were taken to Town Centre police post accused of assaulting police officers.

Parents whose children had been picked up were also arrested when they followed their minors wanting to inquire why they had been arrested.”

Added one parent:

“They arrested my small boys whom they picked up for no reason but simply because they were rounding up everyone in the area. They did not charge them but said i must pay a fine. I ended up bribing them to release my boys because i did not have the $50 000 fine for each of my four boys.”

Efforts to get a comment from police spokesperson Paul Nyathi was work in progress by the time of writing.

X-ray Equipment Lies Idle At Sadza District Hospital

By A Correspondent- An X-RAY machine worth over US$25 000 has been lying idle for the past five years at Sadza District Hospital in Chikomba due to lack of a specialist to install it for use.

The hospital, which is the biggest in the district serving a population of over 130 000, refers patients who have complications requiring X-ray services to Murambinda and Marondera, about 200km away.

The X-ray machine, donated by a local non-governmental organisation, has been in the open where it was exposed to sun and rain.

Sadza District Hospital administrator Hazel Gusha confirmed to NewsDay Weekender that the machine was lying idle, but referred further questions to the district medical officer Robson Mahachi.

Mahachi said he was not aware why the machine was not being used.

He said:

“I have approached the provincial medical officer’s office and notified him about the issue. We requested for engineers who can examine the machine, but I don’t have any meaningful reason why the machine is not being put to use.”

Health workers throughout the country have staged demonstrations on several occasions, demanding that government improve their working conditions, including provision of medical equipment.

Mashonaland East Zimbabwe Nurses Association chairperson Stewart Mudzingwa, also a nurse at the hospital, said government was neglecting equipment which was donated which implied lack of commitment to ensure effective health service delivery.

“It’s a bad situation for health service delivery as poverty-stricken rural populace has to incur unnecessary expenses in their quest for X-ray services,” Mudzingwa said.

“Government should have ensured that the donated machine was functional soon after the donation but here we are, five years down the line, a very essential machine in any public hospital is lying idle.”

Mashonaland East acting provincial medical director Paul Matsvimbo refused to comment on the matter.-Newsday

ZACC Arrests Corrupt Cop

By A Correspondent- A Harare traffic police officer was arrested by members of the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) last week after he allegedly received a bribe from an unlicensed driver to pass through a roadblock without a lockdown exemption letter.

The suspect, Broadway Jogwe, was expected to appear before magistrate Vongai Muchuchuti late yesterday.

Allegations are that on February 18 at the corner of Bishop Gaul Avenue and Rotten Row in Harare, Jongwe solicited for US$30 from Albert Muzhande, who was driving a Mazda
B1800 without a driver’s licence and an exemption letter.

Further facts reveal that Jongwe unlawfully took possession of Muzhande’s national identity card and two cellphones worth US$45 as surety for the gift or consideration for the solicited bribe.

Zacc investigators laid a trap and found Jongwe in possession of the solicited money which was given to him by Muzhande.

Jongwe led investigators to the recovery of Muzhande’s two cellphones and identity card.

“Find Each Other”: UCAZ Tells Local Authorities, Central Govt

By A Correspondent- The Urban Councils Authority of Zimbabwe (UCAZ) says the crusade by the ruling Zanu-PF to blame the opposition on the chaotic state of most urban councils, served no purpose but only worsened service delivery to ratepayers.

This was said by UCAZ president, Josiah Makombe who is also the Gweru mayor while addressing journalists in the city Thursday, Makombe.

Instead, he said there was need for local councils and the central government find each other and work on improving service delivery, which has crumbled in most cities and towns.

Most urban councils are failing to provide residents and businesses with basic facilities like water, primary health care, failure to collect garbage, repair roads and other services.

The Zanu-PF leadership including government ministers have accused the main opposition party, the MDC Alliance, of running down urban councils through corruption and setting up illegal housing structures on state land.

Most urban councils are under the control of the Nelson Chamisa led MDC Alliance.

“They are a lot of issues where government and the local authorities need to sit down together and solve these issues. The blame game will never take us anywhere,” Makombe said.

He said to resolve these challenges, the UCAZ had since engaged President Emmerson Mnangagwa and they had presented to him a position paper on challenges being faced by the local authorities.

“As UCAZ, we have engaged the government. We have held meetings with the President of the country and the Minister of Local Government (July Moyo) and we presented the challenges that local authorities are facing,” he said.

The Gweru mayor could not, however, be drawn into giving specifics of what was contained in the position paper which UCAZ handed over to Mnangagwa.

However, Makombe said the local councils were not responsible for most of the challenges faced by the municipalities.

“We all agree that ZINARA (Zimbabwe National Road Administration) is not doing well since they took licensing from local authorities. We are arguing that the disbursement methods are favouring the rural councils than urban,” he said.

“We agree that there is rampant corruption at ZINARA and some of the officials are in court as we speak. They have been looting money and that (looted) money is supposed to be disbursed to local authorities. So it’s difficult to say local authorities are failing. We cannot operate independently; we always need support from government.

“I expect government to give us money to repair roads not to take money from our allocation from devolution funds. It then becomes a challenge,” he said.

“No Matter How Huge The Amount Of Breadcrumbs That Fall From Your Master’s Tables, Maintain Your Loyalty To The Masses”

By Israel Dube- In more than one article we told over ambitious Kembo Mohadi that he will never be the President of Zimbabwe given his Matabele background.

We told him not to fly to high because his wings were fake, made of wax and feathers, but out of ignorance and hubris he flew too high and too close to the sun. When the wax melted the fall was spectacular.

No matter how huge the amount of bread crumbs that fall from your master’s tables in Harare, do not turn against your own people (Matabele). The 2nd Vice President and the most junior in the Zimbabwe presidium, Kembo Mohadi, should have known. But when he was still the darling of the Shona supremacist government, he fell into the same trap that caught Enos Nkala, he turned against his own Matabele people.

He is on record saying that Matabele people must forget about the 1980- 1987 Matabele genocide and further justified it (the genocide) saying it was necessary for nation building. These were the most treacherous and traitorous words to come from a leader let alone Matabele person.

Like Enos Nkala, he forgot that a Ndebele in Zanupf is like a goat amongst jackals and that Matabeleland is his constituency which, no matter how appetising the bread crumbs that fall from the tables in Harare, he must never, never insult.

Unfortunately that is the costly blunder that he made, actually it is a mistake that most Matabele leaders who find themselves holding some sort of high position in Harare always make. Impressing the masters at the expense of the people of Matabeleland seems irresistible to them.

The office of the president in Zimbabwe has been used as a love nest since 1980. First to defile it was the first President of Zimbabwe, late Robert Mugabe. Beside being married to late ,Sally Mugabe, he was having a promiscuous affair with his aide, Grace Mugabe nee Marufu.

The immoral relationship that started in 1987 produced two children, Bona and Robert Junior, out of wedlock and this happened when Grace was still married to Air Force Pilot, Stanley Goreraza.

Just because Mugabe was Shona, he  respected and worked for his Shona constituents, no one called for his resignation, instead he was congratulated and his wedding with his former side chick, Grace Marufu in 1996 was the most attended event in Mashonaland.

Enter Mnangagwa and his so called second Republic. He was caught pants down by his wife Auxillia Mnangagwa in the maize field entertaining a young Midlands State University student at their Kwekwe farm. The incident was not short of drama as Auxillia chased him through the maize field and he ran like terrified teenager.

According to Prof Jonathan Moyo, Mnangagwa has 41 children with different mothers both young and old. Here is another Zimbabwean leader soiling the  office of the president. Did the people of Mashonaland call for his resignation? Not at all because Mashonaland forms his political base. Instead, he was praised for outfoxing and outrunning his wife in the maize field.

VP Chiwenga’s first wife  Jocelyn Jacobsen (née Mauchaza) was snatched from a white man while  the second wife, Marry Mubaiwa, was taken from popular soccer star Shingi Kaondera. In 2011 Chiwenga married Marry Chiwenga while he was married to Jocelyne. Divorce papers to break Merry’s relationship with Kaondera were forged.

Beside Chiwenga being a marriage wrecker of note, no one has demanded that he resigns. His supporters in Mashonaland protect him.

In the church, the Archbishop of Harare Patrick Chakaipa despite being sworn to celibacy, he left 7 Children when he died. But for having an affair with one woman, Pious Ncube  from Matabeleland was forced to resign based on tribal grounds.

MLO does not condone immorality and promiscuity that has been happening in the Presidium since Zimbabwe independence. But we condemn in the strongest terms, Matabele leaders who are into politics of the stomach. They lead the innocent Matabele people to the slaughter house (Zimbabwe) yet we know that they do not have political stamina to even save themselves when they are under attack by Shona supremacists and their multitudes of supporters.

Look at disgraced Kembo Mohadi, just have a look at him! His career hangs in the balance. He is not crying out to Matabele people to save him because they do not support him and his Zimbabwe project as punishment for insulting them. He is desperately asking for help from Mnangagwa and indeed his political fate will be decided by him who was chased by his wife through the maize fields when he was caught with a young university student in a compromising position. Him who has 41 children with different women will “fire” him. What a shame!

Is Emmerson Mnangagwa not the President of Zimbabwe? Is  Constantino Chiwenga not the 1st Vice President of Zimbabwe? Is Kembo Mohadi not the 2nd Vice President of Zimbabwe and the most Junior in the Presidium? If the answer is yes then why is Zimbabwe calling for the most junior in the office to resign for committing the same “offence” that his seniors have committed? Is it alright for the two, Mnangagwa and Chiwenga, to defile the office of the president because they are Shona, but a dismissible offence for Kembo Mohadi to do the same because he is a Matabele, an unwanted refugee, extra or dviziti?

It is our prayer and wish that all Matabele people understand the meaning of the message above as clear as it is. The message that you are not a Zimbabwean, you must not hold any meaningful position  and that, you and your other generations to come have no place nor future in Zimbabwe.

However, there is a new hope in the new Republic of Matabeleland for all Matabele people. We make a clarion call to all able bodied young men and women to join MLO in the fight for the restoration of the statehood of Matabeleland, to restore our lost independence and sovereignty, to restore our lost culture, our identity, our dignity, our humanity and pride.

The Heavens Have Dealt A Deadly Blow To Jecha Politics

By Trevor Shiri- The heavens have dealt a deadly blow to the jecha politics that characterises the MDC Alliance’s body politik. The heavens have opened up admirably this summer cropping season, nurturing and sustaining the well-planned twin-pronged Government-driven Pfumvudza and Smart Agriculture Programme (SAP).

This has not boded well with the toxic MDC Alliance, together with their minions, who have of late taken to social media to discourage people from farming as the #ZimAgricRising has taken over Twitter. The Team Pachedu, has been on a blitz, telling Zimbabweans not to be pressured to venture into agriculture, which is doing well and on the rise, saying they should venture into other sectors of the economy.

A self-confessed and ardent MDC Alliance activist and key member of Team Pachedu, Freeman Chari, unashamedly parroted the anti-agriculture stance, tweeting that “don’t feel pressured to be a farmer. Do what you are good at, be patient and persistent. Usatorwa nemhepo.”

The foregoing tweet is instructive and encapsulates all that is wrong with the MDC Alliance and its minions. As a puppet party, especially formed and funded by white monopoly capital to fight the Land Reform Programme (LRP) and label black people as incapable of farming, the puppets must fight the LRP.

The MDC narrative since 2000 has been that Zimbabwe was no longer the bread basket of Southern Africa because of the LRP, which reclaimed stolen land by whites. Blacks are incapable of farming. Blacks are lazy. Blacks are unproductive.

Cheeky, yet distorted comparisons were being made that Zambia, which absorbed some of the former white commercial farmers from Zimbabwe, had a booming agricultural sector as a result of the presence of white farmers. What nonsense.

What was lost, and still is lost on such hare-brained thinking is that, agriculture is dependent on funding. White people were accessing agricultural loans at subsidised rates. Enter black people in 2000, sanctions were imposed on the country to incapacitate it from financing the LRP. To this day, British-owned companies such as Mashonaland Tobacco Company, do not fund beneficiaries of the LRP because it is “disputed land,” but funds all white farmers who retained their farms, and the few opposition-oriented blacks that bought stolen land.

Noting the incapacitation wrought by sanctions, Government set up Agri-Bank to fund the LRP, but the bank was immediately placed on sanctions. The sanctions themselves hamstrung Government from accessing lines of credit from the Bretton Woods Institutions. All this was tailor-made to sustain the silly narrative that blacks cannot farm. It is sickening that white people who had a whole century to horn their agricultural skills with considerable funding curiously labelled a nascent LRP, barely 20 years old, a failure!

Cognisant of the stakes against it, Government has engaged in various funding models, among them, Operation Maguta, Farm Mechanisation, Presidential-Well Wishers Scheme, Command Agriculture – and of late, the highly successful Pfumvudza and SAPs, the source of gripe from the MDC Alliance. Dear reader, all these programmes were funded using locally-generated resources.

It has been an arduous and tortuous journey, especially on the back of climate change-induced extreme weather phenomena, characterised either by torrential rains, resulting in floods and destruction, or incessant droughts.

It is against this background and efforts that youth have taken the initiative to transform Zimbabwe’s agriculture. Social media, in particular, Twitter, the citadel of the opposition’s jecha politics, is now awash with success stories of the transforming agricultural sector. This has not boded well with the opposition which is now at sixes and sevens and fulminating and cursing the Lord for opening up the heavens, which has showered blessings of seed and success on hard-working farmers.

The National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1) is poised to be a success on the back of a strong agricultural sector, anchored by new farmers, mainly the youth, paving way for the attainment of an Upper Middle Income Economy by 2030.

The opposition’s jecha politics are dead in the water as no sane person will ever support a party that gets angry over good rains and good harvests. It is not normal.

“Enough Of Lockdowns”: Businesses

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC) has said Zimbabwe may struggle to achieve even 0,5% gross domestic product (GDP) growth this year due to the repeated imposition of hard lockdowns.

In its latest report titled:

“2020 Achievements in Retrospect”, the ZNCC appealed to the government to move to targeted lockdowns which allow all formal businesses to remain open rather than blanket lockdowns.

The report said:

We will be thankful to the Almighty if we are to post even a +0,5% GDP growth for 2021, with a negative 6% to 9% being our forecast before the economy moves out of the hole in the second half of 2022.

The services sector is becoming the major driver of the Zimbabwean economy and the hard lockdowns we continue experiencing will not do a favour to an economy with almost 61% concentration of the services sector.

We have had enough lockdowns and we have to graduate to smart and targeted lockdowns with all formal businesses expected to remain open whilst adhering to the guidelines of COVID-19.

Zimbabwe first imposed a hard lockdown at the end of March last year to curb the spread of SARS-CoV-2, the novel coronavirus which causes the respiratory disease called COVID-19.

After subsequently relaxing the lockdown from mid-2020 onwards, the government reverted to a hard lockdown in January this year to contain a second wave of the coronavirus.

The lockdowns have further hurt an already struggling economy.

Govt Fails To Buy Senior Security Officers’ Vehicles

By A Correspondent- The government is battling to plug a massive backlog of personal service vehicles for senior security officers amid worsening working conditions in the security sector.

According to the publication, senior officers in the military, police and prison service who are entitled to service vehicles have been on the waiting list for close to three years without receiving the vehicles.

The senior officers are entitled to single-cab trucks such as Ford Rangers.

The NewsHawks reported sources saying nearly 300 lieutenant-colonels who were promoted from 2018 to date have not received their vehicles.

Further, more than 50 superintendents in the police and prison service who were promoted to the rank of chief superintendent are yet to take delivery of the vehicles. A security source is quoted as saying:

As it stands, only battalion commanders in the case of colonels got first preference upon their promotion. For police officers, dispols (officer commanding district) also enjoyed this preferential treatment because Treasury coffers appear to be depleted. It’s been three years since newly promoted officers got new vehicles.

The publication however said it couldn’t get responses for questions sent to Vincent Hungwe, chairperson of the Public Service Commission, Defence Forces Service Commission, Police Service Commission and Prison and Correctional Service Commission, at the time of going to print.

Health Workers Refuse SinoPharm Vaccination

Covid-19

By A Correspondent- Thousands of nurses and other health workers in public hospitals are reportedly refusing to be vaccinated against the novel coronavirus using the Sinopharm vaccine donated by China.

Despite Vice-President and Health and Child Care Minister Constantino Chiwenga volunteering to be the first person to take the jab at Wilkins Hospital in Harare last week, public sector nurses remain hesitant to participate in the vaccination programme due to fears of side effects of the vaccine.

Zimbabwe Nurses Association (ZINA) president Enock Dongo told Zimbabwe Independent that there has been low participation of health workers in the vaccination programme.

He said:

I can confirm that people are afraid. However, vaccination is the way to go. The reports we receive show that there was a low turnout on Monday but it seems the number is increasing slowly.

But as more information trickles in from government about the vaccine side effects and efficacy details, maybe things will change for the better.

There is a need for government to properly dispense information about vaccines because there is a lot of information on social media.

Government has to publicise reliable information on all media platforms to build confidence among health workers and the general populace.

Sinopharm is said to have a 76% efficacy rate and has been taken in many countries including Brazil, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates.

On the other hand, vaccines manufactured by Western countries such as Pfizer and Oxford/AstraZeneca have efficacy rates of over 80% while the Russian Sputnik V vaccine stands at 92%.

Dongo urged the government to do more to educate the public about the importance of being vaccinated as the 1 314 health workers who had taken the jabs constitute a tiny fraction of all health workers.

He said:

There is fear among the people and the first phase has to work because this will then instil confidence. In government, there are 20 000 nurses and all health workers are over 46 000.

If it’s true that 1 314 have taken the vaccine; what percentage is that? There is a problem.  Government should clear the air about the vaccines.

The messages should be dominant on all social media platforms so that we win the hearts of health workers and citizens. We are encouraging our people to get vaccinated.

Rich Nations Hoarding Covid- 19 Vaccines

By A Correspondent- The World Health Organisation (WHO) has accused some rich countries of hoarding COVID-19 vaccines thereby risking the COVAX programme which aims at ensuring equitable distribution of vaccines.

The COVAX programme aims to supply 1.3 billion vaccine doses to poor and middle-income countries this year.

At a recent briefing, WHO senior adviser Bruce Aylward said:

Now, some countries are still pursuing deals that will compromise the COVAX supply. Without a doubt,”

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said equity was essential for the world to weather the COVID-19 storm.

He said:

We can’t beat COVID without vaccine equity. Our world will not recover fast enough without vaccine equity, this is clear.

We have made great progress. But that progress is fragile. We need to accelerate the supply and distribution of COVID-19 vaccines, and we cannot do that if some countries continue to approach manufacturers who are producing vaccines that COVAX is counting on.

These actions undermine COVAX and deprive health workers and vulnerable people around the world of life-saving vaccines.

Tedros also called for countries to waive intellectual property rules “now” to allow other countries to make vaccines more quickly.

Coronavirus was first reported towards the end of 2019 in China but its origins are not yet known.

According to John Hopkins University, 113 million people have contracted the coronavirus globally while 2.5 million have since died.

S.A Receives Johnson And Johnson Jab

By A Correspondent- South Africa this Saturday took delivery of 80 000 doses of the Johnson and Johnson COVID-19 vaccine from Belgium.

The Johnson and Johnson vaccine is believed to be 82 percent effective in preventing severe illness from the coronavirus variant first discovered in South Africa.

The doses are reserved for frontline health care workers.

“Vaccination Best Way To Protect The Nation”: Doctors

By A Correspondent- Zimbabwean doctors who are part of frontline health care workers who received the Chinese Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine have urged the nation to be vaccinated saying that was the best way to protect the nation.

They speak as some members of the public have expressed fear over the vaccine which they say might have huge side effects. Some stakeholders even urged the government to ensure that the vaccines they procure are safe.

Meanwhile, the minister of Health and Child Care, Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, has since been vaccinated to allay fears over the vaccine’s safety.

Epidemiologist and director of health for Kadoma City, Dr. Daniel Chirundu, who received his first jab four days ago told The Herald that he took the vaccine to protect himself, his family, and his clients.

He added:

My vaccination also served as a cue to action among my subordinates and others who are now demanding it.

It has been three days and I have not experienced any side effects.

He urged eligible Zimbabweans to take the vaccine and also encouraged them to continue observing measures such as wearing clean face masks the proper way, practicing social distance and hand hygiene that were recommended to curb the transmission of the coronavirus.

A doctor at Mpilo Central Hospital in Bulawayo, Dr Misheck Ruwende said the citizenry should stop being anxious about the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine.

Citizens React As Mwonzora Bags Political Parties Fund

Warriors Star Evicts Wife Over Alleged Infidelity

By A Correspondent- National soccer team star, Thabani Kamusoko, has reportedly evicted his wife from their matrimonial home on infidelity allegations.

Kamusoko, who is now based in Zambia where he is playing for that country’s ZESCO United, evicted his wife from their Selbourne Park, home in Bulawayo after his sister allegedly caught her in the company of another man outside their home.

According to iHarare an online newspaper, Thabani’s sister Sithokozile Kamusoko saw his wife Bongile Sibanda being picked up by her alleged lover outside the couple’s house.

Sithokozile said she discovered that her sister-in-law was having an extramarital affair by chance.

She said she caught Bongile red-handed when she was dropping off her hairdresser who lives near the Kamusoko’s.

Sithokozile said after Bongile got into the car she decided to follow them.
Sithokozile said she then sent Bongile a series of WhatsApp messages pleading with her to stop what she was doing but she got no response and decided to inform Thabani about the incident.

Thabani is said to have given instructions to his family first to go and inform Bongile’s family of the infidelity and to make sure she vacates the matrimonial home under supervision.

However, through her lawyers, Dube-Banda, Nzarayapera, and Partners, Bongile denied cheating on his husband and blames Sithozile for trying to destroy her marriage.

Thabani Kamusoko said she gave Bongile up to June to move out of his house and said the matter will be discussed further when he returns to Zimbabwe.

Shava’s appointment sparked controversy with some saying he was unfit for the post considering his involvement in the Willowgate scandal that drained the state of thousands of dollars.

ZBC Acting CEO In Qualifications Scam

By A Correspondent- The suspended ZBC Acting CEO, Wisdom Hombarume has been accused of allegedly masquerading as an engineer after obtaining qualifications from an unaccredited institution.

The matter was revealed in court proceedings in which Hombarume is challenging the suspension of payment of his salary and benefits by the national broadcaster.

He was suspended in July last year after being arrested on allegations of fraud involving a business trip to Botswana. His salary and benefits were suspended after the emergence of reports that he had attained qualifications from an unaccredited institution.

The Zimbabwe Council of Higher Education (ZIMCHE), says the University from which Hombarume allegedly obtained his qualifications is not recognised in Zimbabwe.

Hombarume however argued through his lawyer Josias Mandevere that the suspension of his salary and benefits is illegal since it was a different case.

ZBC, represented by Scanleen and Holderness, argued that the move was based on a new matter of misrepresentation regarding his qualifications.

Mr Evans Moyo who is representing ZBC argued that Hombarume approached the court with material non-disclosure as he did not give the court full details on why his salary and benefits were suspended.

High Court Judge Justice David Mangota is expected to rule on the matter on Tuesday next week.-statemedia

Guspy Warrior Pledges To Carry Chibaba’s Zimdance-hall Legacy On

By A Correspondent- Zimdance-hall musician, Guspy Warrior, said their music genre which was also performed by the late Soul Jah Love, continues to be the choice for the young, especially ghetto youths who have been given a form of expression and hope for a better future.

The music genre is most popular and synonymous with the youngsters in the country’s high-density suburbs now calling themselves Ghetto Youths and carries messages which challenge the status quo and at the same time speaking truth to power.

One of the musicians who perform the same genre, Guspy Warrior said they will continue to follow the music which also empowers them economically.

“This is a form of employment for us and all we have acquired in life is through dancehall music. We put food on our tables through music,” he said.
Zimdance-hall commands a huge following as evidenced by the historic send-off for the late Soul Jah Love at his burial.

Bogus Police Nabbed In Action

By A Correspondent- Police in Dete, Matabeleland North province have arrested two men who were masquerading as police officers enforcing lockdown regulations.

The two David Ndlovu (29) and Posent Nyathi (32) allegedly went to Lupote Business Centre clad in police gear claiming to be enforcing lockdown regulations.

Police confirmed the incident on their official Twitter handle.
They urged members of the public to report suspicious people who claim to be police officers as they tarnish the image of the police force.

2021 Bulawayo Arts Wards In Limbo As Sponsor(s) Shun The Annual Event

By A Correspondent- The Bulawayo 2021 Arts Awards are in limbo following non-commitment from the event’s main sponsor to resource the prestigious annual event.

The awards which are held in the second capital every August, have been sponsored by United Refineries since 2018.

The cooking oil manufacturing company’s chief executive officer Busisa Moyo, told the state media that they wanted other companies to partner with them in organising and hosting the event.

“I think that we should reach out to other companies in the city. Okay, they aren’t doing so well with Covid-19 and all but even individuals and our diasporans who listen to artistes from home and so on can come to the party. Let’s think beyond us (United Refineries), let’s be a bigger collective and do things as a group as opposed to one entity, I’d encourage that,” Moyo said.

He said his company’s role in taking the arts awards to a high level will be worth it if it attracts other players.

“This is what I have been asking for during the past two years so that we have other big corporate sponsors involved,” said Moyo.
He said the more companies involved in the hosting of the awards, the better for the artistes.

For now, Moyo said they have not committed to sponsoring this year’s awards.

“We haven’t met with the partners to find out what they are thinking. We normally announce (the date of the awards) once we have a meeting with them. I can’t say that (we’re committing to sponsoring the awards), at this stage. We are very committed to the arts and we will always be involved in any shape or form,” said Moyo.

Over 60 Frontline Workers Contract COVID-19

By A Correspondent-About 62 health workers in Kwekwe have contracted covid-19 at a time the country has rolled out a vaccine programme against the global pandemic.

This was revealed by Health and Child Care Deputy Minister, Dr John Mangwiro while officially launching the Midlands vaccination programme in Kwekwe on Tuesday.
Dr Mangwiro said of the 62, 42 have since recovered and 20 were still self-isolating and not well.

He encouraged the health workers to take the vaccinated as it protects them against the dreaded pandemic.

Midlands Provincial Affairs Minister, Larry Mavima was the first to receive the jab followed by several health workers, journalists and members of the Civil Protection Unit.

“The vaccination programme is targeting frontline workers and I encourage all of you to take the vaccine to protect yourselves. Frontlines are the main target for the first phase as they are the ones exposed to the virus,” said Dr Mangwiro.

After touring several isolations centres in Kwekwe and Redcliff, Dr Mangwiro expressed dismay over the non-availability of oxygen at most of the facilities.

“I have noted with concern that most of these ICU units do not have oxygen for severe cases. The oxygen should be made available as soon as possible in all institution,” he said.
Dr Mangwiro however expressed satisfaction over the time taken to renovate the isolation centres.

“I am told Kwekwe has been operating without an isolation centre but the pace that was taken to address the anomaly is amazing. That is why I said I should come to inspect them myself and most of them are satisfactory. If the oxygen gas is made available, they will be complete,’ he said.

Dr Mangwiro toured Bale medical facility in Redcliff which has a capacity for 35 patients as well as Torwood Hospital which also carries about 65 patients.

He also toured a ward at Kwekwe General Hospital which was recently renovated and reserved for covid-19 cases.

He said the gas that the government intends to acquire from Redcliff based company, Steelmakers, should benefit the locals first.

“We are in the process of negotiating a deal with Steelmakers for the provision of medical gas and this should be able to benefit the locals first before it is taken to other parts of the country. I, therefore, will check with my staff after all the processes have been completed to ensure that the oxygen has been connected,” he said.

Kwekwe has been operating without an isolation centre after the only centre, Mbizo 16 Clinic was condemned the district CPU then identified Bale Medical Centre and Torwood which were lying idle and renovated them into isolation centres.

Kwekwe City Council is also in the process of converting Garandichauya Beerhall into an infectious disease hospital.

Odzi Granny Demands Intimacy From Hubby After 11 Year Drought

An Odzi elderly couple is at loggerheads over conjugal rights, with Gogo Ena Makandiona (60) accusing her hubby Sekuru Hamufari Mazwieguta (65) of sexually starving her for 11 years.

Makandiona accuses Mazwieguta of manufacturing lies about his manhood being locked.

Business was brought to a halt at Odzi Police Station last week on Saturday as skeletons tumbled out of the couple’s marital cupboard.

The couple has been married for 43 years and is blessed with 12 children.

While the couple had approached the police over a misunderstanding over their cattle, things got out of hand as Sekuru Mazwieguta said he has been deliberately sexually starving his wife.

Out of spite, Sekuru Mazwieguta told Gogo Makandiona that his ‘batteries’ are fully charged and that for the past 11 years, he was being intimate with his second wife, Gogo Patricia Chakapunza every night.

Gogo Chakapunza, married to Sekuru Mazwieguta for the past six years, confirmed her husband’s claims, saying they have been enjoying full marital bliss all these years, much to the shock of Gogo Makandiona who had been made to believe that her husband was impotent.

Speaking to The Weekender, Gogo Makandiona said she might be forced to approach the civil courts as she didn’t get much help from the police.

“The police could not offer us much help as this is a civil matter. They just encouraged us to find a lasting solution to our problem.

“If this persists and we fail to reach an agreement, our next port of call will be the civil courts. I was silent all these years because I thought that he was really locked.

“I was shocked, but thank God the truth finally came out through his anger.

“I am heartbroken because I stayed with him all these years thinking that my husband is impotent.

“I am really angry at him. I am his wife, not his sister. If I wanted a relationship without intimacy I would have stayed with my brother. I am his wife and should be treated as such in the bedroom.”

She added: “He rarely steps in my bedroom. He does not even touch me, claiming that he was locked.”

The family’s neighbour, Catherine Mavhima, said the trio is always fighting, with Gogo Makandiona accusing Gogo Chakapudza of locking their husband’s manhood.

Mazwieguta’s phone was unreachable when The Weekender tried to contact him for comment.

Mwonzora Legislator’s Parly Vehicle Plunges Into Sinkhole After Chiendambuya Bridge Is Swept Away

Heavy rains that pounded the Headlands area last night swept away the Mwarazi Bridge linking Headlands and Makoni North Constituencies, with two cars and a motor cycle plunging into the sinkhole.

One of the vehicles was a Ford Ranger Double Cab belonging to MDC-T Makoni Central MP David Tekeshe while the other one a Honda Fit belonging to Grandcore, a tobacco contracting company. The whereabouts of the motor cycle is still to be ascertained.

The road is the most trafficable route to key service centres such as GMB depots in Chiendambuya and Chinyudze, Mayo Police Station, Chiendambuya Growth point and several clinics.

Makoni North Member legislator James Munetsi bemoaned the destruction of the bridge saying it has cut off his constituency with the rest of Makoni District and appealed to the government to quickly intervene.

‘Mohadi: The Badboy Soiling Harare’s Image’

By Josiah Mucharowana in Pretoria| International diplomacy is a sacred space where countries put their best foot forward to lure and broker deals in favour of their nations.

Therein, the hierarchy begins with the President’ s office populated with VPs and cabinet ministers amongst other cherry-picked government envoys who literally can wear national colours with pride and who are without blemish at all fora when the situation demands.

When it comes to Zimbabwe, Vice President Kembo Mohadi occupies a strategic post as second- in-command shared together with VP Chiwenga.
Notwithstanding his colonial war record as a stalwart, he has become an albatross around the neck for the Harare government having trashed the country’ s image to pieces like pottery by engaging in shamefully riverting sexual escapedes with married aide- de-camps assigned to his office.

To even think he can negotiate anything on behalf of Zimbabwe now is preposterous. His morals are corrupt. He is an inveterate failure when it comes to personal bedroom issues. Without regurgitation, the escapedes out there make shameful reading.

What’s worse, he showed a very condescending language when it comes to women. The way he asked for cosy moments with the outed women is so outrageously coarse befitting hookers in the red light districts of Luxembourg.

Apart from being ample proof that he is a veteran of the underground game, he had little regard for consequences of trampling on other people’s marriages.

Despite the morality of it all, it showed his dictatorial tendencies only expecting to get his way with the women possibly because of the power he wields and the money that comes along with it.

In all of it, the final straw is in the rendezvous for the sexual tryists. Munhumutapa building is perceived as the citadel of government power and unbeknown to the nation, he had other uses of the revered place.

To imagine all the seemingly important men in suits,  trained soldiers with intimidatingly dark faces, military fatigues brandishing Kalashikovs are only keeping a facade. They guard sex pests engaged in adulterous liasons which is not the real business that is supposed to happen behind those corridors.

Now, it would not be far-fetched to assume that every man who has a spouse of partner in high echelons of government is recalibrating  and putting under the scale how business is going during office hours. It is not business as usual with Zanu-PF hawks in town.

While other nations have bigger fish to fry busy rolling out crucial vaccines to fight off the coronavirus pandemic, Zimbabwe has been transfixed, unable to talk about anything besides the free drama emanating from VPs Munhumutapa offices and his Glenlorne home.

In just one week, Mohadi has singlehandedly brought shame upon the Zim government and how his peers respond to these allegations will be a benchmark on how the family of nations will reagard us on anything.

Of course, he is a being with a sexual appetite. Yes, most normal men are attracted to women for various reasons. However it is how we behave around women and our conduct between ourselves as adults that determine how society  judges us.

In all earnestness,  Mohadi, because of his stature in government crossed the Rubicorn by dabbling with married women. He desecrated and defaecated on the perceived aura of Munhumutapa government offices.

It’s going to take eternity to clean up the image of a brothel that has become Munhumutapa which is now etched in people’s minds.

To add salt to the bleeding wound, government spin doctor Mangwana came out guns blazing defending Mohadi saying there was nothing wrong when two adults consent to have sex disregarding where, how and the public titles they hold.

It is such unashamed defences the universe will judge us with. We cannot go to town in celebration defending Mohadi.
As a nation, we have a history of insovency on debts. We have a history of disrespecting property rights. We have a history of policy inconsistency- we have a leaders who announce sweeping changes to policy at ghostly hours of the night. And now we even have top hawks philandering with a string of married subordinates and we see nothing wrong with it. Alright, we might see nothing amiss but surely the world will.

As a government that likes to pride itself as a ‘new dispensation’, we have spend millions of bucks hiring PR companies in the west trying to spruce the country’s image as an investment centre. Yet, we would like to allow an old and senile Mohadi to run wild with his shotgun taking advantage of women. It should not be. Silence is complicity. It only shows shows there is more that happens in higher offices of government.

The late Mugabe married his secretary Grace. The President Munangagwa married CIO agent Auxilia. It’s not wrong to love, it’s wrong to double time, use power and influence one subordinates and use government offices for sex.

Mohadi erred and as a nation, that should be emotionally draining. We have a sexual pervert in leadership so unbridled and daring enough to prey on youngsters who had received his skewed benevolence in the form of college fees.

He has yet again squandered a good chance to give a public apology to the nation for disrespecting public offices. How he will compensate or apologises to the estranged partners of the said women whose marriages he wrecked is another story.

Above all he should fully convince the nation why he should  remain in office as VP amidst the allegations.
To most, judging from word out there and me too, a resignation is long overdue. He should be gone as yesterday. Or at least he should step aside to deal with the mess.

At 71 surely he should not think he is a cowboy on a high horse riding across town with reckless abandon. Yet, allegedly he risks overdosing with sex- enhancing concoctions to please his desires. When a man is so careless with his own life, what could he do for millions of lives he purpot to lead?  The nation must get him off the high horse soonest.

Mohadi cost us big time on the diplomatic front. We now need true leaders who can shoot from the hip and tell him off. Of course those are rare as hen’ s teeth in Zanu PF because they all have smaller- nyana- skeletons in the bottom drawers.

However, the VPs office is a couldron of hope- a potpourri of dreams for the nation where they are nartured and enabled. He has failed and as fellow humans by default, willy- nilly wife-snatching  by officials cannot be condoned. What will become of the husband emotionally? How about the kids sired therof?  Mohadi’s behavior is inconsistent. We need a new name.

Actually, he should thank his ancestry for saving his life. Imagine if the CIO husband had gone crazy upon realising his wife cheating on him with the VP. Are these agents not responsible for his daily security? These men have armouries to their disposal. These people have all-access security clearance to him.

Remember the story of Laurent Kabila of the Banyamulenge rebels and how he died? Seven bullets to the chest from a trusted aide.

Mohadi is a man with a sprawling business empire including hundreds of cattle in Matebeleland. His animal instincts might as well help him grow more in animal husbandry and sod off from national life.

The nation appreciates what he has done thus far. We have heard of his wartime exploits and now indubitably, the nation is awestruck with his below the belt manouvres. It’s time to pass on the baton of power to someone else.

The nation should brace for more intrigue as he is poised to drag the scandal into the courts. We await to see who he takes first kicking and screaming to the dock.

His allegations that his phone was cloned put the entire Presidency in jeopardy. Do we have moles up there? Who wants him gone? Can he prove the underhand shenanigans to that effect? What of the vanquished women themselves, can someone not sing like a canary? The situation has gone to another level folks.

It’s interesting to note how media outfit Zimlive is standing by the story. Surely it cannot be a case of thin dogs barking loudly.  It is going to be a sopie series fellow countrymen. Mr Vice President, as you wish just remember the entire citizenry will wait for you from the court gallery as you clear your name.

ANC Leadership Says They Will Engage Former President Jacob Zuma To Abide By The Constitution

The ANC’s top leadership will engage with corruption-accused former president Jacob Zuma, and the message will be clear and straightforward: “Let us all abide by our Constitution, respect our institutions, particularly the judiciary,” said President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Ramaphosa fielded questions from the South African National Editors’ Forum (SANEF) on Friday afternoon, with the first question asked being his predecessor’s defiance of the Constitutional Court and accompanying allegations that judges received money from the CR17-campaign.

On Thursday, The Witness reported that a proposed meeting between the ANC top six and Zuma had been shelved as Zuma refuses to be engaged on the matter.

Ramaphosa said there are, “… quite a number of engagements”, with Zuma.

“And one of those is an engagement that he is going to have with the top leadership of the ANC, which should be happening any day soon,” he said.

“He’s agreed to it, we’ve all agreed to it, that we are going to engage with him. He is a member, and a disciplined member of the African National Congress, and we will be able to have an engagement with him.

“And the message will be fairly simple and straightforward: Let us all abide by our Constitution, respect our institutions, particularly the judiciary.”

President Cyril Ramaphosa, during a Q&A session with the South Africa National Editors Forum defended Police Minister Bheki Cele’s visit to Nkandla.

Ramaphosa said for him the important thing is to insist that everyone abide by the rule of law and the Constitution.

“So there is no backing down as far as that is concerned.”

Responding to Zuma’s unsubstantiated accusations against the judiciary, which were also repeated by EFF leader Julius Malema, Ramaphosa said he made his position very clear in his newsletter this week.

He said if there is any evidence against a judge, it must be put before the relevant bodies, like the Judicial Service Commission.

“Those who just throw accusations at judges, demean our Constitution, our democracy, and indeed, our nation.

“Judges are not above the law, no one is above the law. All of us as South Africans, from the president to any citizen of our country, must abide by the law, by the Constitution. Because if we don’t, then there is lawlessness in our country.”

Ramaphosa denied Police Minister Bheki Cele’s recent visit to Zuma was problematic.

He said Cele felt compelled to have a “heart-to-heart” discussion with Zuma, with whom he had a longstanding relationship.

He said all that was discussed was Zuma’s “situation” regarding not appearing before the Zondo Commission.

In his opening remarks, Ramaphosa said the fight against corruption is gaining momentum.

“I would say it is unstoppable,” he said.

Earlier this week, ZimEye did an undercover expose’ showing how Mohadi impregnated an A Level student. Mangudya Defends Move to Introduce ZWL$50 Note

The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe has assured the public that the introduction of ZW$50 bank note will not trigger inflation but rather augment the current stock of bills in circulation.

Governor John Mangudya in his Monetary Policy Statement presented new fiscal measure that are aimed at stabilising price and financial system.

Mangudya said as part of measures to enable the public to access and make cash payments, the central bank will soon inject the ZW$50 bank note into circulation.

“The Bank reiterates that banknotes, new or old, do not cause inflation in an economy since they do not increase money supply. Cash payments are an alternative to other methods of transacting and do not constitute money creation,” said Mangudya.

He added that price dynamics were influenced by the level of money supply in an economy as opposed to its composition hence the bank’s firm commitment to keep the level of money supply growth under control through its conservative or hawkish monetary targeting framework.

Under the new fiscal measures, for the banking public, cash withdrawal limits have been increased to ZW$2 000 for individuals while the current limits on the mobile banking were left unchanged at $5 000 per transaction and an aggregate limit of $35 000 per week.

The RBZ aims to maintain and sustain the auction system through the 40% export surrender requirement, 20% domestic foreign exchange sales proceeds surrender requirement and 15% foreign exchange contribution from the fiscus.

The RBZ also hiked its policy rate to 40% from 35% as part of efforts to curb further inflation upwards.

“Maintaining the foreign exchange auction system remains paramount in anchoring inflation and maintaining price and financial system stability. The Bank shall continue refining the foreign exchange auction system taking into account market fundamentals as well as closely monitoring the utilisation of funds from the foreign exchange auction system and the economy at large,” said Mangudya.

The central bank chief said they were putting in place a definitive programme for accounting and expunging of foreign exchange obligations under the blocked funds and foreign exchange legacy-debt framework.

This framework will be designed to ensure that it is not inflationary and takes into account local and international audit requirements.

“Applications for qualification under this framework have been closed and the Bank and Government are at the stage of implementing resolution.”

The new measure will also aim at maintaining the status quo on the minimum capital requirements for banks and microfinance institutions.

“The Bank is encouraged by the capital preservation measures that the banking sector has put in place towards compliance with the minimum capital requirements effective 31 December 2021. The banking sector capital raising plans are based on organic growth, mergers, consolidations and fresh capital injections.”

There will also be strict monitoring that banking institutions comply with the Banking Regulations as stipulated in Statutory Instrument 65A of 2020.

The fiscal pronouncements also bring assurance that authorised dealers, banks and foreign exchange auction system participants comply with rules and regulations to curb abuse of the foreign exchange auction and safeguard it from being abused as a breeding ground for arbitrage opportunities.

Chombo Granted Bail, Defended By Magistrate Against State Prosecutors

By A Correspondent- Former Local Government Minister Ignatius Chombo was on Friday granted bail by Harare regional magistrate Stanford Mambanje.

Chombo was ordered to continue following bail conditions imposed on his other previous corruption-related charges.

Mambanje said Chombo will be required to report once a fortnight to police and surrender title deeds to his Marlborough property.

Chombo, who was appointed Finance Minister by the late former president Robert Mugabe a few weeks before the November 2017 military coup, is charged with fraud and five counts of criminal abuse of office.

The allegations date back to the time he was Local Government Minister between 2000 and 2015.

During Chombo’s court appearance on Wednesday, prosecutors Charles Muchemwa and Ephraim Zinyandu opposed bail stating that the charges he was facing would likely influence him to flee from trial.

The investigating officer of the case, Detective Maxwell Gudo, told that court that Chombo would likely interfere with witnesses if he were freed on bail.

However, in his ruling, Mambanje said Chombo has proved that he will not abscond trial as he has travelled to South Africa nine times and returned.

Hwende Rips Into Turncoat Lillian Timveos

Tinashe Sambiri|MDC MDC Alliance Secretary General, Hon Charlton Hwende has described Senator Lilian Timveos’ treachery as shocking.

Senator Timveos and Hon Blessing Chebundo shocked all and sundry when they joined Zanu PF.

Timveos wrote a piece attacking Hon Hwende, in a desperate attempt to defend her decision to join Zanu PF.

See Hon Hwende’s statement below:

SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT

ZANU PF has continued with its protracted war of attrition against the MDC Alliance and its leadership.

The regime is using our erstwhile colleagues who have left us and joined their moribund regime to attack and destabilize the MDC Alliance through peddling malicious falsehoods and scurrilous allegations especially against my person. The intention is to weaken the MDC Alliance leadership and destabilize the party. It is not surprising as most regimes bone out of a coup entrench themselves through cooptation of opposition elements and systematic targeting of their legitimate opponents.

We are a natural target since our President won the 2018 election whose victory the regime stole from us.

While it is not in the ordinary for me to respond to ZANU PF allegations on our internal issues, I would like to address some of the concerns considering that they are intended to damage both my personal integrity and most importantly the repute of the party. First, allegations were levelled that party funds have been misappropriated.

In addition to our audit (of the party finances in the period after 2019 congress) which was successful I must state that we have tried and tested systems of deploying financial resources in the organisation which leave no room for misappropriation by any single individual.

While human beings are fallible, systems are fail-safe. I take pride in the systems we have put in place which cannot be manipulated in the manner suggested.

Second, the allegation that I have tormented people in meetings to the point of tears and even drove a few to the absurd, deplorable and treacherous act of joining ZANU P.F. is laughable. Constitutional meetings of organs of the party have continued uninterrupted since congress in the physical and virtually in instances where we are unable to meet physically due to lockdown restrictions. The organ that was singled out by ZANU PF speaking through the renegades, the Standing Committee, is chaired by the party President. In all our Standing Committee meetings, our President has ensured that meeting etiquette is observed in line with our democratic principles of tolerance, diversity of thought and freedom of speech. Should it be the case that a member feels they have been treated unfairly by another, the party has competent mechanisms to address grievances as a way of ensuring that our platforms remain safe spaces. I state here that if any member feels aggrieved by my conduct, I am personally available and willing to subject myself before organs of the party to answer to such allegations. I presented myself before congress in Gweru and had I not been elected, I was ready and willing to work with the one elected; such is my faith and confidence in the competency of our internal democracy. In the same spirit, I am open to criticism and correction. Be this as it may, I know that the current spurt of attacks is orchestrated by ZANU PF to put a wedge between the SG and the office of the President. These efforts will continue to fail dismally as I am not mistaken in the execution of my mandate to serve the institution and to give unquestionable support to our President Adv Nelson Chamisa.

For the record those who have left the MDC Alliance have done so voluntarily without any undue pressure from any quarter. No one was pushed out of the MDC Alliance.

It must astonish any right thinking citizen that those who claim to be running away from being insulted in private in the MDC Alliance are joining ZANU PF, a party which has not only insulted them publicly in the past but has maimed and killed thousands of MDC Alliance supporters. That kind of duplicity and treachery is shocking.

We all know that those who have left the MDC Alliance and joined ZANU PF have done so to benefit from ZANU PF patronage and corruption. Others have done so after failing to recover from their loss in the popularity contest during our elective congress in 2019. We will work better to give the necessary psychological support to sore “losers” as well as ideological orientation to members that in a democratic organisation like the MDC Alliance we are all winners when the best is deployed and congress must never be the basis of terminal acrimony.

Those who have decided to join the gravy train are free to do so but they should never justify their treacherous behaviour by peddling falsehoods and mudslinging those who have chosen to keep fighting and speaking for the people. Despite the odds, the people’s movement has persevered with the unwavering support of the jobless graduate, the starving pensioner, the vending mother in the dusty streets of Harare right to the support of the farmer in the last hut in Umguza. I personally will never betray the people’s cause. We are up against a ruthless enemy but we will prevail. The final call is unchanged. The journey is like a pendulum swing; the measure of the swing to the right is the measure of the swing to the left but the final call remains unchanged, victory is certain.

Family Gets Wrong Body After Funeral Parlour Mixup, Forced to Travel to Plumtree to Exhume Buried Relative For Reburial

By A Correspondent- A family from Lobengula West suburb was left speechless after they were given a wrong body by a funeral parlour and had to travel all the way to Plumtree to exhume the body of their loved one for reburial in Bulawayo.

A family insider, who requested anonymity, said a misunderstanding broke out after the late Mthokozisi Ndlovu’s family members were handed a wrong body by Falakhe Funeral Services officials.

“On Tuesday at around 8am, we left for Falakhe funeral parlour to take the body of our late relative Mthokozisi Ndlovu (34), who had died last week at Thorngrove hospital, for burial at Luveve Cemetery.

“But we were surprised to see the funeral parlour officials seeming to be too busy and dashing about. After about 20 minutes of waiting, one of our relatives approached the official, who told him to wait for some minutes,” said the insider.

A family member, who only identified herself as MaMpo, said an official approached them and explained that they had given their dearly departed’s body to the wrong family.

“The official told us that one of their drivers collected the deceased’s body and it happened that he went off duty for two days, resulting in another driver giving the Brunapeg family Mthokozisi’s body,” she said.

The insider said they had to report the matter to the police and took the body of the family in Plumtree.

“We had to go and engage the family with the help of Falakhe Parlour and they agreed to exhume Mthokozisi’s body so that we bury it here in Bulawayo,” said the source.

The source added: “We buried Mthokozisi at Luveve Cemetery yesterday (Thursday).”

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the body mix-up saga.

“I confirm we received a case where a body was swapped with another body resulting in one family burying a wrong body. The Bulawayo-based family had to travel to Plumtree to exhume the body for burial at Luveve Cemetery. It is important to do body viewing, at least one relative who knows the deceased.”

Kembo Mohadi Presidential Ambitions Thwarted, We Saw It Coming!

Kembo Mohadi

In more than one article we told over ambitious Kembo Mohadi that he will never be the President of Zimbabwe given his Matabele background.

Horror As Woman Kills Own Daughter

POLICE in Lower Gweru have arrested a 38-year-old woman for allegedly fatally assaulting her eight-year-old daughter with a sjambok after she went to play with her friends at a neighbours homestead.

The incident happened in Matshaya Village, Chief Sogwala in Lower Gweru, on Wednesday afternoon.

Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident.

He said Maria Ruhwizhi fatally assaulted her daughter Nozithelo Nsingo accusing her of leaving their homestead to play with other minors at another homestead.

“Police are investigating a murder case in which an eight-year-old girl died after being assaulted by her mother. The now deceased girl, Nozithelo Nsingo, was assaulted by her mother Maria Ruhwizhi who used a black leather sjambok on her all over her body,” said Insp Mahoko.

He said Ruhwizhi is assisting police with investigations.

Meanwhile, a Grade 4 pupil at Peakmine Primary School in Shurugwi was electrocuted on Monday evening when he opened a cage to feed some chicks kept by his parents.

Insp Mahoko confirmed the death of Kupakwashe Chakanyuka, from Shurugwi.

“It was around 9pm and the minor had the duty to feed chicks kept by the family. He was electrocuted when he tried to open the cage. Electricity was connected to give light to the chicks,” he said.

Insp Mahoko said a young sibling who tried to help him suffered electrical shock but managed to run away and told their parents.

“Police attended the scene and no foul play is suspected. Nsingo and Chakanyuka’s bodies were taken to Gweru Provincial Hospital en route to a Bulawayo hospital for postmortem,” he said.

Insp Mahoko urged members of the community to desist from using too much force when disciplining their children as this leads to unnecessary loss of life.

He also discouraged the members of the community from illegally connecting electricity in their homes.- Chronicle

Jeppy Jaboon Back to Mnangagwa Whom He Described As Incompetent Prior to November 2017

Jeppy Jaboon

By A Correspondent- The temperatures outside Zanu PF seem to be going below zero degrees for former Masvingo provincial political commissar Jeppy Jaboon who is said to be in the process of tracing his footsteps back to the ruling party.

Jaboon was caught up in the winds of change that swept across Zanu PF at the height of political tension between rival factions G40 and Lacoste.

The highly effusive former political commissar found himself in the jaws of the crocodile when he openly declared war on then Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa, discrediting his competence to succeed the late former president Robert Mugabe.

After the 2017 military coup, the G40 faction was send packing with the majority of its top protagonists skipping the country for safe haven while the remaining few, including Jaboon, joined the opposition outfit National Patriotic Front (NPF).

Zanu PF Masvingo provincial chairperson Ezra Chadzamira confirmed to TellZim News that Jaboon had reached out to return to Zanu PF.

“Jaboon reached out and said he wanted to return to Zanu PF. We have no problem with people coming back home because Zanu PF has a big tent approach.

“We told Jaboon that he should make an application through his district (Bikita) who will then forward it to the province for deliberation,” said Chadzamira.

Jaboon could not be drawn into comment as his mobile went unanswered but sources close to him said the process for his return to Zanu PF has been set in motion.

“Jaboon is an asset and comrades in Zanu PF know that. He is a workhorse and delivers results. When he was provincial political commissar, he carried Masvingo on his back and the party structures were in safe hands.

“Things happened and that is the way politics is. This does not mean people become enemies. Jaboon has made up his mind and is going back to Zanu PF.

“Zanu PF has always been his home and at the end of the day we all return home. He is trying to reach out to some of his friends who are still in the system so that they could help facilitate his return,” said the source.

Zanu PF has recently fished from the Nelson Chamisa led MDC Alliance with senior officials Lilian Timveos and Blessing Chebundo defecting.-TellZim

Man Vanishes After Impregnating Physically Challenged Girl

Chamisa, Biti Hail Incarcerated Activist Makomborero Haruzivishe

By A Correspondent|Opposition MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa and his deputy Tendai Biti have rallied behind the incarcerated activist Makomborero Haruzivishe saying he is vital cog in the struggle for freedom and justice in Zimbabwe.

Posting on Twitter, Chamisa described Mako as the true definition of courage whose fight should not be criminalised.

“Nations are shaped defined and determined by the agency and electricity of their young people. Vibrant Youth leadership is the oxygen that determines the destiny of nations. The young @MakomboreroH defines courage. The fight for a just society must never be criminal,” said Chamisa.

Biti also hailed Mako as a national treasure whose intelligence and articulation of issues has resulted in countless brushes with law enforcement agents.

“Makomborero Haruzivishe is a national treasure.A quite humble intelligent articulate& brave compatriot. He has been brutalized by the regime throughout his life including multiple expulsions from University. He is not a criminal. Please do the right thing&let him go home,” said Biti.

Mako was arrested last week and charged with kidnapping employees of Impala Car Rental which is sucked in the abduction of Tawanda Muchehiwa by suspected state security agents.

25 Children Initiated Into Satanism ?

AT least 25 children in Acacia, Penhalonga, were reportedly initiated into a Satanic cult by a 22-year-old local woman.

The woman allegedly befriends the unsuspecting minors before luring them into the occult world. Last week, Acacia residents had sleepless nights after a 12-year-old girl fell into a trance and declared that she and 25 other children in the area had been initiated into Satanism by her neighbour (name withheld).

However, the young woman has vehemently denied the allegations, highlighting that she also experienced spiritual attacks at some point in her life.

As she was manifesting, the 12-year-old wriggled like a snake.

This came minutes after the minor had physically attacked her father who sought to restrain her from visiting their neighbour’s residence. The child’s father, (name withheld to protect the identity of the minor), confirmed his daughter’s weird behaviour.

“My child went to play at our neighbour’s house and when she came back, she was behaving weirdly. She was putting on different clothes from the ones she had gone wearing. When I asked our neighbour to return my daughter’s clothes, she refused to surrender them. I even visited our neighbour to collect the clothes, but I was told that she had soaked them. I demanded to be given the wet clothes,” said the troubled father.

“That night my daughter was making strange sounds. She was also telling us hard to believe stories of how she was now part of our neighbour’s Satanic cult. She claimed that our neighbour is the queen of the cult, while 25 other minors from our neighbourhood are the maids.

“She says during one of their meetings, our neighbour instructed her to kill me or one of her brothers,” said the father.

Meanwhile in the same neighbourhood, another spirit has also been manifesting on another minor and accusing the same lady of recruiting her into the cult. A third girl also manifested and killed a snake that had been seen in Acacia. However, the family could not allow The Manica Post to interview the minor, saying they feared recurrence of her manifestations if she is constantly reminded of the incident.

A traditional healer whose four children claim to have been initiated into the cult said she has been witnessing mysterious occurrences at her home.

“Just yesterday, a cat entered my child’s room. When we went to check on her, my daughter’s eyes were blazing like fire. I will never forget that image. I could not even lift her as she was so heavy.

“I was so scared and ran outside. My sister had to come in to assist,” she said, adding that her children have been cleansed by a local prophet.

A neighbour, Emilio Magaso, said the alleged Satanist is not new to controversy as her parents were constantly summoned to attend to her during her high school days at a nearby mission school.

“We long suspected that something fishy was happening in her life. She has a mermaid spirit,” said Magaso.

But in an interview with The Manica Post, the alleged Satanist denied ever initiating the minors into any cult.

“Honestly, look at me, I am 22 years old and I have a child. Why would I be friends with people who are 10 years younger than me? Most of these kids are not even teenagers and I do not even know them that much,” she said.- Manica Post

MDC Alliance Accuses Zanu PF Of Attempting to Decimate The Opposition

MDC Alliance deputy spokesperson Clifford Hlatywayo says the party remains unyielding to attempts by the ruling Zanu PF to decimate the movement and create a one party state.

In a statement following after the surprise departure of senior party members Lilian Timveos and Blessing Chebundo who crossed the floor to join the ruling Zanu PF, Hlatywayo said the party values freedom of expression and association.

“There has arisen debate on the move by former MDC Alliance members to Zanu PF. Whilst it is not a big event, as non-cowards and patriots, we don’t hesitate to take the plunge. Firstly, the MDC Alliance is a political party ideologically rooted on social democratic values. Amongst these values is freedom of expression and association.

“That right, among many are sacrosanct. We are therefore not in any way taken aback by the decision to exercise their democratic and constitutional guaranteed rights. We know however that at this point in time Zanu pf is doing all it can to take Zimbabwe back to 1983- creation of a one party state by dismantling alternative ideas; vanquishing, jailing, detaining and scaring both the popular party and civil society leaders” said Hlatywayo

He said the continuous arrest and detention of party members and activists is part of a plot to dismantle and stifle opposing forces.

“On the same, the vampire state co-opts some leaders from the opposition as a deceptive show of mighty. The agenda is not just to incapacitate the opposition but stifle dissent from within Zanu PF. ZANU PF will not succeed in its one party pursuit.  It has been exposed! MDC Alliance is a people’s party. That party is hidden in people’s hearts. No violence, detentions, co-option or propaganda will weaken that treasure.

“MDC Alliance is a transparent organisation, which recently published its audited accounts. The first of its kind. Peddling falsehoods and an attack on the leadership of the party by ZANU PF is a nonevent. We are accountable to the masses of Zimbabwe, which was done satisfactorily. The people of Zimbabwe remain clear on the march for a democratic developmental state. Happiness and prosperity are what the people want. The creation of rebels by ZANU PF in the name of MDC T cannot distract the people’s train.” he said.

High Rentals Now A Nightmare For Citizens…

Zimbabwe urban house rentals now very expensive

By Noel Mavura -The United Nations predicts that by 2050 ,seventy percent of the
population in Africa will be living in urban areas hence there will be many
challenges ,risks as well as opportunities which comes with the
urbanization.

Bad Luck For ZRP Cop In USD45 Bribery

A Harare police officer appeared in court today on allegations of soliciting US$45 bribe from a motorist he had arrested.

Broadway Jongwe was facing bribery charges when he appeared before Harare provincial magistrate Mrs Vongai Muchuchuti Guwuriro.

The State led by Mr Moses Mapanga opposed bail on the grounds that Jongwe was likely to abscond since he had previous convictions.

He told the court that Jongwe was also likely to interfere with State witnesses. Mrs Guwuriro defferred the matter to Monday for continuation of bail application.https://a60a31f6a7b7c0d30a267eb9407e88b6.safeframe.googlesyndication.com/safeframe/1-0-37/html/container.html

The court heard that on February 18 at Cnr Bishop Gaul and Rotten Row streets, Jongwe, being an employee of the Zimbabwe Republic Police, solicited for US$30 from Albert Muzhande who was driving a Mazda B1800 without a driver’s license and a Covid-19 exemption letter.

Further facts revealed that Jongwe unlawfully took possession of Muzhande’s national identity card and two cellphones worth US$45 in total as surety for the gift or consideration for the solicited bribe.

It is the State’s case that the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission set a trap and arrested Jongwe while receiving money from Muzhande for the return of his identity card and cellphone

Judge Whose Privates Were Leaked On WhatsApp, Was In Love With Subordinate

Justice Thompson Mabhikwa

Fidelis Munyoro| Some lawyers have urged High Court judge Justice Thompson Mabhikwa to resign to preserve the dignity of the bench following allegations of an intimate affair with a member of support staff, although the Judicial Service Commission is still investigating whether a relationship with such a work colleague breaches the judicial code of ethics.

Investigations into the judge’s alleged intimate affair with a member of the support staff in Bulawayo, Ms Oratile Nare, are underway after nude pictures and raunchy WhatsApp messages, allegedly from the judge’s phone, recently circulated on social media. The judge is a widower.

Some lawyers who spoke to The Herald said the Judicial Service Commission was right to move in swiftly to “deal with a clear reputational risk” and to see if two sections of the judicial code of ethics that all judges must follow had been breached.

“The judge owes it to the profession and to the people, on whose behalf he exercises judicial authority to resign,” said a veteran Harare lawyer speaking on condition of anonymity, querying how the judge can face the lawyers and members of the public in court.

Another lawyer based in Bulawayo said the alleged actions of Justice Mabhikwa were in clear breach of section 7 of the Judicial Code of Ethics. He described the judge’s liaisons with a subordinate as manifestly improper.

“The fact that he has been taking and keeping such images which have now been circulated makes a bad situation worse,” he said on condition of anonymity.

“Judges are justifiably held to a higher standard than ordinary citizens. It does not help matters that this scandal has blown out with such fury only two months after the judge lost his wife. Could the judge not have waited? What example is he setting?”

Section 7 (1) of the judicial code of ethics demands that a judicial officer “shall avoid impropriety and the appearance of improper behaviour in all his or her activities, in and outside court, and shall avoid any conduct that may result in bringing the judiciary into disrepute”.

Subsection (2) says, “As a subject of constant public scrutiny, a judicial officer must accept personal restrictions that might be viewed as burdensome by the ordinary citizens. In particular, a judicial officer must conduct himself or herself in a way that is consistent with the dignity of the judicial office.”

On Tuesday, the JSC issued a statement advising that investigations into the matter were underway and the public would be advised of the outcome in due course.

Allegations are that Justice Mabhikwa and Ms Nare, an assistant of fellow Bulawayo judge Justice Maxwell Takuva, have been in an intimate relationship and that Ms Nare, jealous over what she allegedly believes is another lover of the judge, reportedly forwarded what are described as the judge’s exchanges with the other woman to almost all his contacts, including a judges’ group.

Ms Nare had reportedly went through Justice Mabhikwa’s phone sometime during the night and discovered that the judge had sent pictures of his body to another woman only identified as Petty or Patie. The offensive package included the judge’s raunchy messages exchanged with Patie or Petty, who also sent the judge pictures of her body.

Meanwhile, a lady with almost the same name and similar surname as the one involved with Justice Mabhikwa, is furious after an online publication used her picture on the judge’s story.

“I Uratile Nare would like to strongly refute and categorically deny the allegations made by ZimLive Editor Mduduzi Mathuthu in an article published on the 24th of February 2021. The article carried my picture implying that I was the ‘irate lover’,” said Miss Nare.

“This is purely fake news. This misleading and completely distorted information was published on various social media pages and newspapers including ZiMetro and zwnews. Such frivolous reporting has a direct impact on my reputation being besmirched and is causing damage to my career which I have painstakingly built with years of hard work. Not to mention the trauma, gross pain and suffering I am experiencing as a result of this article.

“I want to take the opportunity to provide some important context to clear my name. Firstly, my name is Uratile Nare and not Oratile Nare who I am not related to. Secondly, I do not work for the Judicial Service Commission as I am a 3rd year student at one of the local universities and I am currently completing my attachment in Harare, Zimbabwe. Third and finally, I have never met or interacted with Justice Thompson Mabhikwa, neither do I know of him.”

She intends to pursue the full extent of legal remedies available to clear her name.- Herald

This Is Khami’s Longest Serving Prisoner

Khami longest serving prisoner…Mhlupheki Ngwenya

He was condemned at birth to a life of hardship after being christened Mhlupheki, which is Ndebele for “the one who struggles”.

True to his name, Mhlupheki Ngwenya (47) has suffered, living a life of struggle and holding a record that no one should be proud of — being the longest serving inmate at Khami Maximum Prison.

Dressed in white prison garb inscribed “Life” with a blue pen, Mhlupheki has been in prison for 21 years.

He was sentenced to death in 2008 for killing a man in Bulawayo’s Richmond suburb after they had an altercation on one of the darkest days in the country’s history — July 1, 1999. This is the day when Father Zimbabwe and Vice-President Joshua Nkomo breathed his last.

The day would also change Mhlupheki’s life as he would later be incarcerated for murder. “I’m here because of a murder that I committed in 1999 on 1 July. I had an argument with this man who was drunk and we started fighting. He stabbed me with a bottle on my arm,” he said, showing the news crew his scar.

“I drew a knife and stabbed him to death. That is how I ended up in prison,” explained the soft-spoken slim built inmate.

Mhlupheki said at the time he lived at Mbuyazwe Village in Umguza District and was married with a child aged three.

Sadly, the child died while he was in prison and he has no idea what happened to his ex-wife. He said in 2008 he was sentenced to death and was moved to Chikurubi Maximum Prison in Harare where he was expected to be hanged.

He narrated the trauma of thinking every day would be his last. The anguish of hearing a cell door opening and thinking his time had come, for nine long years.

“I was sentenced to death on 9 April 2008 at the Bulawayo High Court. After that I was transferred to Harare’s Chikurubi Maximum Prison where I stayed for nine years before I made an appeal against the death sentence. On 30 July 2017 my death sentence was commuted to life in prison. This led to my transfer back to Khami Maximum Prison, because I was initially sentenced while in here,” he said.

Mhlupheki said since his imprisonment, he has lost touch with outside reality. Even cellphone technology was minimal in Zimbabwe by the time he was jailed.

“When I was imprisoned there was not much cellphone technology in the country, so I have never held a cellphone. So, things like WhatsApp messenger that you are talking about I don’t know them. It would be a new world to me if I’m to be released from prison,” said Mhlupheki.

He said his personality has changed following his long stay at the prison.

“When I was arrested, I did not know Jesus but in prison I got saved. I’m now baptised. Right now, I’m doing my secondary education, I’m supposed to register to write Ordinary Levels this year but since schools are still closed due to Covid-19 that has been halted. But I remain studying so that when schools open, I register to write my O-levels.

That is what I’m preoccupying myself with at the moment,” he said. He said he has not lost hope that one day he would be accorded Presidential Amnesty.

“The reason why I’m studying is to have knowledge, there are a lot of technologies that have come up since my incarceration. There isn’t much I’m doing so I decided to go to school. Secondly, if I waste this period in jail and get lucky and I’m pardoned by the President, I will struggle to adjust to normal society. My only hope is to receive Presidential pardon.”

Mhlupheki said serving life in prison is more liberating than his earlier death sentence. “Being a death row inmate was a very painful thing. The conditions are too difficult. You spend 23 hours in a solitary cell and just given an hour out of the cell just to exercise. Being in that cell psychologically kills you, if you are not strong as a death row inmate, you might fall sick or die or even lose your mind. I think it’s important to give yourself to God because alone you cannot survive.

Turning to God is how I survived all that time. But prison life is very painful, it separates you from your relatives. It takes away all the little things that you would take for granted when you are outside the cells. Everything here is regulated and even the time you go to bed. At 6pm here we would be expected to be sleeping,” said Mhlupheki.

He said he has not seen any of his relatives in 11 years but was hoping to reunite with his uncle. However, Covid-19 has again stalled the reunion.

This is mainly due to the fact that Government banned members of the public from visiting inmates as part of the measures to mitigate against the spread of Covid-19. Mhlupheki said he was remorseful for taking a life.

He said he was “crushingly” disappointed that he put his own family through hell as society labelled them all sorts of names due to his actions.

“Abadala bathi icala lembula ingubo lingene, so what happened is that I committed a crime without thinking. While in prison I have tried to reach out to the relatives of the man I killed to seek forgiveness. I’m also seeking forgiveness from my family because my crime also affected them. People will forever point fingers at them saying ‘your child who is a murderer’,” said Mhlupheki. -Chronicle
