By Jane Mlambo| One of the ladies implicated by Suzan Mutami to be in a sexual affair with Norton legislator Temba Mliswa, Eleanor Kaziboni has challenged the motormouth philanthropist to provide evidence of the alleged affair which she said never existed.
In a Twitter thread, Kaziboni said she was shocked that Mutami named her among the Norton legislator’s sexual partners, an allegation she dismissed as false.
Kaziboni said her involvement in the Mliswa founded Youth Advocacy for Reform and Democracy (YARD) where is the Secretary General has been solely to consolidate support for youth initiatives.
She challenged Mutami to provide proof of the alleged affair.
Below is Kaziboni’s full thread;
1/ I saw the article that was posted by @ZimMorning_Post on Monday, 1 February, 2021 & particularly Susan Vivian Mutami’s baseless claims that I was having a sexual affair with Hon. @TembaMliswa whilst she never provided any proof whatsoever.
2/ Anyway, lies and rumours travel faster than the truth. I am appalled that as a young woman who is on her way towards building a career & a good name, @mutami_susan decided to place entirely false allegations against me.
3/ The way she implicated me into her havoc clearly showed a side of her that I’ll never imitate. I refuse & denounce these claims against me as I have never had and I do not have any sexual relationship or affair with Hon. @TembaMliswa.
As the S.G of YARD, my involvement (just like any other YARD member’s involvement),has been towards the consolidated support of youth initiatives by Hon.@TembaMliswa &as a Constituent of Norton Constituency, I’ve been directly involved in Norton’s community development programs.
5/ I now challenge and implore Susan Vivian Mutami to provide substantial proof of the allegations that she levelled against me.
Social media went ablaze last week after Mutami went public about her affair with Mliswa whom she accused of fighting Zanu PF factional wars and name dropping Mnangagwa’s name in his extortion business among other allegations.
Mliswa has responded by accusing Mutami of being a ‘project’ used to fight him by some people in Zanu PF.
By Mari Matutu | Few hours after the announcement of the appointment of Frederick Shava as minister of foreign affairs, the social media is awash with comments from every concerned citizen.
Frederick Shava
There is competition to show that one has memory of all the scandals that Shava has done before.
There is competition to prove that Mnangagwa has appointed one from his village.
I will not compete on that. Why ? Because no matter Mnangagwa picks anyone in Zanu pf he would never find a clean person.
Here is what our opposition miss. We are the citizens of the country. The power to govern is derived from us.
If our citizenry was aware of their political rights, sometimes we would not be having these thieves in positions in the first place.
Section 104 subsection 3 of Zimbabwe constitution is clear
“ (3) Ministers and Deputy Ministers are appointed from among Senators or Members of the National Assembly, but up to five, chosen for their professional skills and competence, may be appointed from outside Parliament.”
If you are responsible citizen you must first question the press statement that appointed Shava using this section.
The dictates of the constitution is that one has to be a member of the senate or member of National Assembly first before being appointed minister. If you are not among the five who are chosen for their skills, then any appointment to post of minister is unconstitutional.
Instead Mnangagwa has actually appointed Frederick Shava as minister in terms of section 157 (1)(d)
(i)(ii).
Let us not be fools to be cheated by Mnangagwa. We made this constitution by our own effort. Here is the said section.
157 Electoral Law
(1) An Act of Parliament must provide for the conduct of elections and referendums to which this Constitution applies, and in particular for the following matters-
the periodic delimitation of constituencies and wards in accordance with section 161;
the registration of voters , and requirements for registration on particular voters’ rolls;
a code of conduct for political parties, candidates and other persons participating in elections or referendums;
a system of proportional representation for the election of persons to the seats in the Senate referred to in section 120(1)(a) and the seats reserved for women in the National Assembly referred to in section 124(1)(b), and the procedure for filling vacancies in those seats, which vacancies must be filled by persons—
(i)belonging to the same political parties as those who previously held the seats; and
(ii)of the same gender as the persons Who previously held the seats;
Let us not be blind my fellow citizens. The said section 157 (1) (d)(i)(ii) cannot be used to appoint a minister. The president of the country has no power at all to appoint ministers based on this section. In fact it is a section that seek to put someone into parliament first.
It state of the law that must be put in place to in order to replace Members of parliament and not ministers.
Now the requirement is, he should be a member of Senate first before being appointed as minister. To then appoint him on a speculation of a vacancy in senate from a certain political party and if that party nominates a person to be a member of senate there is no one to object his nomination and ZEC just endorse every action and make it happen is unlawful.
This is the part where vigilant citizens and all pressure group should focus on and utilise to correct. This person shall not just seat in Senate. He has voting rights. We shall have laws changed by his choices in parliament.
Already the president has challenged the authority of the people. The right to be in Senate is derived from the people of Zimbabwe.
Zimbabwe electoral Commission is responsible for running the process of filling the vacancies of members of senate. The president is now directing ZEC only to accept the nomination of Frederick Shava as Midlands senate because Mnangagwa want him as minister of Foreign Affairs.
What about the procedure which demands that the said political party nominates its candidate and voters send objections? Does it mean the president is over ruling the people’s right to object before they even submit them?
Section 39 of the electoral Act which is the law referred to by s157 (1)(d)(i)(ii) states clearly the procedure taken for one to be a senate. We the registered voters have the right and duty to object the nomination of any person nominated by the party in terms of section 39 (6)(b) of electoral Act.
Mr president you have violated our constitutional rights on this appointment just by procedure.
Now I present to you the reasons to object the nomination of Frederick Shava as a Senator in order for you to appoint him as Minister.
The president by appointing him as minister basing on his nomination and election is manipulation of electoral process and unconstitutional.
Section 120 (2) is clear that members of Senate must be elected in accordance with electoral laws of the country. To date we have no electoral law that direct the nomination or election of a senator in order for him to be minister at the directive of president. That is unconstitutional
Section 2(1) of constitution is clear. “any law, custom , practice or conduct that is inconsistent with constitution is invalid to the extend of the inconsistency” . Mr President the whole world must know that the appointment of Mr Shava as minister of foreign affairs is null and void. He has no mandate of the people of Zimbabwe. If it is a custom, practice or culture of Zanu pf that you manipulate the will of your membership, let it be known that this custom has no space in our society. Anyone who get appointed as Minister from house of senate has to first in the senate first before appointment.
As electoral law requires that one has to be an ordinary resident of Zimbabwe for 5 years in the previous 20 years in order for you to be elected as Senator, his nomination does not meet this requirement. Plenty of evidence to prove he has not been residing in Zimbabwe for quit a long time. This alone is an electoral process which needs to be challenged by electoral laws without manipulation.
As a previous convict we also want to know if he has not committed other offences in last 5 years.
To me these are things we the citizend must not just take for granted. If we allow the president to manipulate the parliament to write notices of vacancies in senate then ZEC fiddle with nomination procedures to have an already hand picked person to get into parliament we fail ourselves.
That is why Khupe is in parliament today.
The second part is that section 104(4) of constitution states that
“(4) In appointing Ministers and Deputy Ministers, the President must be guided by considerations of regional and gender balance.”
The current cabinet has to be checked and see how it is composed. Does it meet the standard? If Midlands has more than 5 ministers and deputy ministers already, does this appointment meet the constitutional requirement?
We have right and duty to challenge this. Active citizens would approach constitutional court tomorrow and challenge that. Not because you will get a positive response from the captured courts of Malaba, but you put a dent to the legitimacy of the regime.
As minister of foreign affairs representing an illegitimate government he is better exposed before he assume office.
Imagine a Human rights lawyer approaching court tomorrow challenging Shava’s appointment as minister by merely demanding his or her s67 political right in s67 (1)(a).
Imagine the courts disrespecting this application to challenge Shava’s appointment.
He can go on to force to be a foreign affairs minister but when ever he open his mouth we will remind him he has no mandate of the people. He is a product of a junta
By Patrick Guramatunhu- “Rinemanyanga hariputirwi!” (No matter how seemingly clever the deception, the truth will always come out in the end!) so goes the Shona adage.
The Kim dynasty has ruled North Korea since 1948 for three generations. Kim Jong-un, the current Supreme Leader’s, grandfather Kim Il-sung made himself the Supreme Leader with all the absolute power of an autocratic and tyrannical ruler. And yet, he named the country The Democratic Republic Of North Korea. His son and now his grandson have all kept the country’s name for the same purpose – to deceive!
“It has been painful to watch over the past few days the desperation with which the small cast of know-it-alls, that is contributing so much to the country’s toxic politics, has been attacking talk about the urgent need for national dialogue in the country,” reported Daily News.
“Our hope, in this regard, is that the intended beneficiaries of the regular poisonous epistles will continue to see them for what they are – disastrous “advice” that is guaranteed to end otherwise promising careers in the fast-changing local political terrain.”
Cut!
As one of those “small cast of know-it-alls” who have dismissed the Daily News’ proposed Mnangagwa, Chamisa and Mwonzora, “The big three”, political dialogue as a total waste of time. I will state why it is a waste of time; the three are the ones who got us into this mess; they are the problem and cannot be, can never be, the solution to the problem too!
Zanu PF leaders created and have ruthless retained this de facto one party dictatorship for selfish political gain. 40 years corrupt, incompetent and tyrannical rule have left the country in economic ruins and political paralysis, stuck as we with corrupt and incompetent politicians on both sides of the political divide.
MDC leaders had the golden opportunity to implement the democratic reforms to end the dictatorship during the 2008 to 2013 GNU. They failed to get even one reform implemented. To make matters worse, the MDC leaders completely abandon the fight for free and fair elections and participated in flawed and illegal elections for the sake of the few gravy train seats Zanu PF offered as bait. By participating in the flawed elections MDC gave Zanu PF legitimacy.
What the country has needed to get us out of the hell-on-earth, Zanu PF landed us into and MDC has done its bit to keep us stuck there, is to implement the democratic reforms. The challenge has to been finding the competent men and women to carry out this important task.
Let’s return to Daily News.
“What these Smart Alecs seem oblivious to, or is it that they conveniently choose to ignore this reality, is that Zanu PF actually doesn’t care much about the mooted national dialogue, as the ruling party believes – rightly or wrongly – that it won squarely the 2018 parliamentary and presidential elections, and thus does not really need to talk to anyone.”
The country’s failure to hold free, fair and credible elections is the root cause of Zimbabwe’s economic and political crisis and therefore whether or not the July 2018 elections were rigged too have huge implications to our efforts to end the crisis. We cannot seek a way out of this mess without first answering the question; was the July 2018 election free, fair and credible?
We know 3 million Zimbabweans in the diaspora were denied the vote and Mnangagwa reportedly got 2.4 million to win the presidency. Many election observers reported that the election process lacked transparency, traceability and verifiability. ZEC failed to produce a verified voters’ roll.
In the light of the above the only reason why Zanu PF would still “believes that it won squarely the 2018 elections” for the same reason Kim Jong-un believes North Korea is a democratic republic – to deceive.
As for the Daily News, the paper claiming “Tells it like it is!”, it is shocking that even now with all the benefit of hindsight it cannot make up its mind whether the July 2018 elections were free, fair and credible. Instead of giving a clear cut answer on this, the big issue of our generation the paper merely restating Zanu PF’s position and hide behind cowardly caveat of “rightly and wrongly”.
The truth is the cowardly Daily News answer did not fool anyone, certainly not the investors who have stayed away from investing in Zimbabwe because the country is, rightly, viewed as a pariah state ruled by corrupt, incompetent, vote rigging and murderous thugs.
By blatantly rigging the 2018 elections, Mnangagwa confirmed Zimbabwe was still a pariah state as during Mugabe’s days, the November 2017 military coup had changed nothing. Investor have shied away from Zimbabwe because they do not do business with thugs.
The purpose of proposed political dialogue is have a new GNU, Zanu PF in all but name, in the hope investors will be fooled into believe Zimbabwe had finally cast off its pariah state characteristic. Zanu PF will never implement the reforms and so nothing will change. Absolutely nothing!
“Our pledge to our readers is that we will never yield to dubious agendas nor abdicate our key watchdog role, as well as our truthful, non-partisan approach to news – even if this may displease some misguided people,” concluded Daily News.
Well then the Daily News must give a truthful answer to the question; Were the 2018 elections free, fair and credible?
The Daily News will not accept that Zanu PF rigged the July 2018 elections just as the party has rigged many other elections in the past. Mnangagwa’s “Zimbabwe is open for business!” call has failed to attract the investors because no one wants to do business in a pariah state.
All this talk of a new GNU is to give Zanu PF a new name and, hopefully new legitimacy. No one will be fooled; it will take a lot more than a few MDC manikins in the Zanu PF cabinet to transform a pariah state into a democracy!
Of course, it is insane to still be trying to dig ourselves out of this economic and political crisis by appeasing the vote rigging Zanu PF; repeating, 40 years and counting, the same foolishness behind the crisis.
It does not help when the institutions, the media, the intelligentsia, etc. who should be warning society against foolish behaviour are the ones cheering and applauding the madness!
By A Correspondent| Following the death of Foreign Affairs minister SB Moyo, Agriculture minister Perrence Shiri and now Douglas Nyikayaramba among other top military brass credited for the November 2017 military coup, a Zanu PF faction fronted by vice President Constantino Chiwenga has been decimated giving President Emmerson Mnangagwa an edge against his foes.
Nyikayaramba was confirmed dead this morning with sources saying he succumbed to the deadly COVID-19.
According to sources to Zanu PF, Chiwenga had succeeded in keeping to his faction, military personnel who were part of the coup that removed the late former President Robert Mugabe.
On the other hand, Mnangagwa relied on party stalwarts some of who are now stationed at the party headquarters and provincial chairpersons some of whom rallied behind him during the time he was under fire from the G40 faction.
Mnangagwa went on to appoint his own people in key party and government positions with one case in point being the replacement of Engelbert Rugeje by Victor Matemadanda to the position of National Commissar.
The move was seen as part of Mnangagwa’s plot to deal with Chiwenga aligned people who were occupying key party positions.
Chiwenga has also fought for his people including SB Moyo and Perrence Shiri but COVID-19 seems to have other ideas giving Mnangagwa an edge in the power dynamics.

During a meeting held at short notice at the Rainbow Towers today, ZMF members unanimously agreed to reinstate Rushwaya with immediate effect saying her suspension was unconstitutional.
The Federation stated that the suspension was not lawful and that it is the duty of the National Executive not of the General Council (Management Committee) to suspend her.
Mr Daniel Chitenje moved the motion to lift the suspension before it was seconded unanimously.
By A Correspondent- Botswana on Monday executed two men who were convicted and sentenced to death for murder.
In a statement this Monday, Botswana Prison Service Assistant Commissioner Wamorena Ramolefhe said Wedu Mosalagae, 33, and Kutlo Setima, 29 years, both males, were executed for separate murders.
Assistant Commissioner Ramolefhe said the two convicts lost their appeals to the High Court of Appeal on the 5th August 2020.
The statement read:
The Botswana Prison Service wishes to inform the public that the execution of the death penalty passed on Mr Wedu Mosalagae, 33 years, of Letlhakane village and Mr Kutlo Setima, 29 years, of Ghanzi, was carried out this morning, (Monday 8th February 2021) at Gaborone Central Prison.
Mosalagae was committed to death by Francistown High Court on the 8th August 2019, for the murder of Ms Barobi Rampape on the 24th November 2012 at Nkoshe Ward at Letlhakane while Setima was committed to death by the High Court of Botswana at Lobatse 24th May 2019 for the murder of Ms Tsone Kosi of Kgaphamadi ward, Ghanzi.
They both lost their appeals to the High Court of Appeal on the 5th of August 2020.
Capital punishment is an emotive subject and some regional countries, notably South Africa have abolished it.
However, like Botswana, Zimbabwe still upholds the death penalty and the end of 2018, there were at least 81 people on death row.
In March 2018, President Emerson Mnangagwa commuted the death sentences for those that had been on death row for more than 10 years, benefiting at least 16 people.

By A Correspondent- Incessant rains have caused serious damage to infrastructure and crops in Matabeleland South, with villagers fearing for the safety of their houses.
Matobo district ward 15 councillor Dickson Moyo told Southern Eye yesterday that it was the first time since the 1970s that the area had experienced heavy rains which destroyed crops.
He said most families were now facing hunger after their crops were washed away by flash floods.
“Our crops are now a writeoff, even those planted through the Intwasa/Pfumbudza scheme. The government was supposed to assist us with fertiliser to avert leaching, but we only got it last week. Mkhokha village has more than 1 000 villagers, but we only received 200 bags of fertilizer, which is not enough,” Moyo said.
He said incessant rains last hit Matabeleland South in the 1970s, adding that several homesteads had their huts damaged by the rains as they were constructed using non-durable material.
MDC Alliance provincial chairman Solani Moyo said in Bulilima East, roads had been turned into rivers. He said Manzamnyama River experienced flash floods.
“Villagers have spent two weeks without entering their fields due to the continuous rains that we are receiving in Bulilima everyday. Our crops are now clogged up with water, making them a write-off,” Moyo said.
He said he had to assist some villagers in Huwana village with meal-mealie, after their homesteads were destroyed by the rains.-newsday
By A Correspondent- The 16 year old Chinhoyi girl who was recently fined $15 000 for violating Covid-19 curfew regulations on Saturday has been granted free bail pending appeal by Chinhoyi magistrate, Mr Tendai Banda.
The girl, (identity concealed) of no fixed bode was also facing a 60-day jail term if she failed to pay the fine by 15th day of this month.
Last week, Chinhoyi magistrate’s Ms Melody Rwizi found the girl guilty of contravening Section 25 (2) of Statutory lnstrument (SI) 10/21 for disobeying curfew orders and regulations and was convicted for breaching Section 4 (i)(a) of SI 83/20 that criminalises loitering and unnecessary movement during national lockdown.
Thirty days were set aside by the magistrate for the next two years on condition the girl does not commit a similar offence.
The court heard that on 28 January 2021 at around 11 pm, the girl was arrested when she was loitering at Chinhoyi’s Gadzema main bus terminus in the company of two unidentified men.
The two men escaped.
She was taken to Chemagamba Police Station where she was charged for breaching the on-going curfew meant to curtail the spread of the deadly Covid-19 pandemic.
Mr Nyasha Sibesha prosecuted.
Representing the girl, Justice for Children represented by its lawyer Ms Pamellah Musimwa, spearheaded the release of the girl on free bail.
The accused has since been taken to Kadoma Training Institute under the care Department of Social Welfare.
The lawyer argued that imprisonment should be used as a last resort whilst also taking into consideration the best interests of the child.
JCT, she said, was concerned about the levels of child rights violations that children are being exposed to starting from families, communities, and duty bearers. statemedia
By A Correspondent- The Passenger Association of Zimbabwe (PAZ) has petitioned the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) over police officers fond of throwing tear smoke on commuter omnibuses.
The petition came soon after an incident last Friday, where police officers threw teargas canisters into a kombi along Seke Road in Harare, which had passengers inside. Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said he had not received a report about the incident.
A passenger, who spoke to NewsDay, said: “Four canisters were fired from the car which was in transit along Seke Road. We were waiting for transport and we ran in all directions after teargas had been thrown into the bus. Smoke is still stuck in my throat.”
He said his mask still smelt of tear smoke.
“No one was run over or hit by cars since the drivers stopped their cars after seeing commotion, but what surprised me is that there were also other police officers who were waiting for transport at the scene where teargas was thrown into a kombi,” he said.
PAZ president Tafadzwa Goliati said: “On Friday, we received complaints from passengers that commuters, who were coming from work, were tear-gassed by riot police at Coca-Cola along Seke Road. Today (Monday) in the morning, we received the same news that at the same place, the police in a black Honda Fit vehicle teargassed passengers.
“This is dangerous because in the process passengers run for their lives, and they may end up being hit by cars. Teargassing people during the COVID-19 era is not only bad, but it is dangerous. COVID-19 is a respiratory infection, and imagine what teargas will do to weaken the respiratory system.”
Goliati said the country needed to be freed from such kinds of torture.
“What they are doing is very wrong and it has no place in a democratic world. My question is: who is going to be answerable to the injuries and deaths that might happen as a result of this unbecoming behaviour by our security forces. Zimbabwe needs to be freed from this kind of torture.”
Last year, seven police officers who teargassed a commuter omnibus packed with passengers in Harare were arrested.-newsday

By A Correspondent- Police have intensified the enforcement of lockdown measures, including vetting of people passing through various checkpoints leading into city centres.
The move has resulted in long queues at most checkpoints especially those leading into Harare’s city centre in the morning.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the Level 4 lockdown was still in place and warned the public against disregarding the measures.
“The ZRP confirms that on February 5, 2021, 3 459 people were arrested for Covid-19 related contraventions.
“On February 6, 3 643 people were arrested for Covid-19 related breaches and on February 7, 2 848 people were arrested for Covid-19-related infringements,” he said.
“It appears some people are not adhering to lockdown measures and police have heightened operations to ensure compliance, hence the long queues being witnessed at roadblocks.
“There are a lot people who are travelling without exemptions. These are the very people who try to bribe their way through roadblocks.”
He said since the beginning of the national lockdown on March 30, 2020, a total of 403 544 people had been arrested for violating national lockdown measures.
“Most of those arrested were in violation of movement restrictions. Members of the public are advised to comply with the measures put in place by the Government to reduce the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.
All those exempted and regarded as offering essential service for the nation were required to produce exemption letters at all roadblocks.

By A Correspondent- Teachers have bemoaned the drop in the 2020 Grade Seven pass rate and urged Government to work with mobile network providers so that data for online lessons is affordable.
The national pass rate is 37,11 percent compared to 46,9 percent recorded in 2019, translating to a decrease of 9,79 percent.
Statistics from the Zimbabwe Schools Examinations council (Zimsec) shows that the total number of candidates who sat for the 2020 Grade Seven examination was 327 559. This figure is 1,35 percent higher than the 2019 entry of 323 207.
Zimbabwe Teachers Association (Zimta) president Mr Richard Gundani said the drop in the 2020 Grade Seven pass rate can be attributed to many factors including the Covid-19-induced lockdown and teachers incapacitation.
“School closed in the wake of the Covid-19 environment. As a result of lack of access to online, distance learning opportunities and absence of teachers due to incapacitation, the majority of learners from public schools and rural schools were excluded from any form of learning as they could not afford the cost of remote learning or extra lessons and that has affected the overall Grade Seven results,” he said.
Mr Gundani said to reverse the downward trend in the pass rate there is need to motivate teachers by paying them decent salaries, postpone examinations during disasters to give learners adequate preparation time and provide adequate infrastructure and learning materials. He said there is also a need for equitable distribution of funds and resources in favour of schools in disadvantaged communities to avoid the growing gap between the rich and the poor or between urban and rural schools.
“Commitment on the part of learners and parents is a critical success factor. The demands of the new curriculum require that parents play an active role in supporting both the school and the learner. Had these exams been postponed and learners afforded adequate time, we could have realised a much better pass rate,” said Mr Gundani.
Amalgamated Rural Teachers’ Union of Zimbabwe (Artuz) National Secretary Mr Nation Mudzitirwa said learners did not have enough time to learn last year. From January to March, he said, most teachers were incapacitated to report for duty and then from March to September schools were closed because of Covid-19 lockdown.
“When schools opened in September the salary dispute between teachers and employer was not yet resolved so the majority of teachers were incapacitated to report for work again. So, learners were forced into examinations without completing their syllabi. As a union we once recommend that when we are faced with such challenges, examinations should be postponed to give learners enough time to prepare,” he said.
Mr Mudzitirwa said the salary dispute between teachers and Government should be fairly resolved so that teachers are paid salaries that motivate them to effectively perform their duties.
“A restoration of the US$520 salary is the immediate solution to the salary impasse between teachers and the Government,” he said.
Mr Mudzitirwa said rural schools have a majority of learners who failed and therefore there is a need to increase the rural allowance to motivate rural teachers.
Progressive Teachers’ Union of Zimbabwe (Ptuz) secretary for research Mr Josiphat Gwezhira said to improve the pass rate, there is a need to introduce a competent system of continuous assessment.
“Radio and TV lessons were a mirage for over 80 percent of the pupils. Some got private teachers and online lessons but they are expensive for both teachers and students, they all cannot afford to buy data bundles. As a way forward there is a need for strategies to make up for the learning time lost as a result of Covid-19 pandemic and teachers’ incapacitation. We need to work together as teachers, parents, pupils and the Government. The Government must approach the mobile network providers so that they avail cheap smartphones or tablets and data so that all pupils have access to online learning,” said Mr Gwezhira.

By A Correspondent- Chitungwiza Municipality has halted demolition of illegal structures that have sprouted in the dormitory town until it received “policy direction” from central government.
The local authority announced the move after Chitungwiza Residents Trust (Chitrest) demanded to be furnished with a list of residential stands earmarked for demolition.
Chitrest, through its lawyers Tinashe Chinopfukutwa and Idirashe Chikomba, had on January 13 written to council demanding a list of properties awaiting demolition after the local authority, in a leaked memorandum dated January 12, 2021, announced plans to demolish over 11 000 illegal structures.
In a statement, acting town clerk Tonderai Kasu said the issue of demolitions and regularisation had been put on hold as they required policy direction.
“It is noted as well that you have taken interest in the status of, and progress regarding regularisation of illegal settlements in Chitungwiza. You are hereby informed that the issues of both demolitions and regularisation are matters that require policy direction.
“This policy direction is supposed to come from both local and national levels, which consists of Cabinet, and our parent ministry of Local Government and Public Works,” Kasu said.
“Many of the issues you are raising with respect to both demolitions and regularisation are still the subject of policy formulation discussions that are taking place at both local and national level and hence at the present time the administration of the municipality is waiting for guidance in the form of policy direction on these matters.”
He said any administrative action to be taken by the municipality would be subject to compliance with section 74 of the Constitution.
Over the years, Chitungwiza has been experiencing problems of illegal structures built on spaces reserved for clinics, churches, schools, cemeteries, recreational activities, roads, under high voltage electricity pylons and on wetlands.
Meanwhile, the St Mary’s Clinic, which had been closed since January 14 due to staff shortages after seven frontline health workers tested positive to COVID-19, has been reopened.
Kasu told stakeholders in a notice that the clinic was still short-staffed even if 24 of the workers that tested positive to the coronavirus recovered after self-isolation.
The council has four clinics. The others are Zengeza Clinic, Seke North and Seke South.-newsday
By A Correspondent- A Bindura man is earning a living through breeding flies as animal feed at a time flies are associated with unhygienic practices and condemned for causing diseases such as cholera, typhoid, dysentery and diarrhoea.
Josphat Nyika told NewsDay that he had mastered the art of turning flies into animal feed, which could be a gamechanger in terms of the development of stockfeed at a time the country is grappling with the high cost of corn-based stockfeed.
Nyika, who is an agriculture graduate said: “As organic waste decays and decomposes, it produces a lot of greenhouse gases that affect the ozone layer and triggers climate change. On a daily basis, an average of one metric tonne of organic waste is produced at dumpsites. Garbage at dumpsites produce odorous smells that attract flies, making them a health hazard,” Nyika said.
“There are a number of fast-food outlets at the marketplace which used to struggle to eliminate house flies breeding at the dumpsite, just less than 20 metres away from their shops. They at times resorted to using fly traps and pesticides to eliminate flies, but could not do anything to deal with the odorous smell produced by the decaying and decomposing organic waste.
“This has become a breeding hub for diseases such as cholera and typhoid. So this innovation has managed to make use of the organic waste dumped at Chipadze Vegetable Market to produce stockfeed,” he said.
Nyika said he collected waste to feed the flies, adding that the project was a sigh of relief to nearby food outlets which used to struggle with flies emanating from the dumpsites.
On average, he collects 500kg of organic waste daily to feed black soldier fly larvae. The flies are fed to pigs, fish and poultry.
Nyika said breeding flies had helped in creating a friendly environment.
“As the waste will not be left to decompose on its own, the amount of greenhouse gasses emitted into the environment is reduced. Also, the environmental nuisance caused by the decaying organic waste is minimised,” he said.
He said the breeding of flies complemented government’s clean-up campaign.
“The innovation to use the organic waste to feed the black soldier fly larvae to produce stockfeed comes at a time the government has launched the national clean-up campaign to be held once every month. The government through the Environmental Management Agency is calling upon young people to come up with innovations that green the communities, thereby creating green jobs,” he said.
“The project site is away from residential areas and is surrounded by trees which will clean the air from the substrate tanks making it safe for animals and human beings,” he said.
He said black soldier fly larvae were rich in protein.
“The black soldier fly larvae and pupae will be harvested, dried and protein-rich stockfeed will be made to feed fish, poultry and swine. Poultry and fish can also be fed from live black soldier fly pupae or larvae,” he said.
With support from both government and the private sector, Nyika said the programme of breeding flies could create employment and end animal feed challenges.
“We aim to train small-scale poultry farmers on the use of black solder fly larva to feed poultry and help them set up black soldier fly breeding facilities to alleviate stockfeed challenges,” he said.-newsday

A four-year-old girl from Kariba town died after being attacked by a crocodile and dragged into a pool where the reptile kept her underwater for several minutes.
The victim was being carried on the back by her 10-year-old niece while crossing a stream along a footpath linking Destiny Suburb and Batonga Federation Section.
After the initial attack, the niece escaped with scratches but the four-year-old, who had fallen to the ground, was grabbed on the head and dragged into a nearby pool.
The niece rushed to their home which is about 100 metres away and alerted the elders who promptly descended on the stream and used nets to comb the area.
The residents started throwing stones into the pool and this forced the crocodile to emerge from the water with the girl and later released her.
One of the residents, and neighbour to the family, Elias Mazabuko who had jumped into the pool where the crocodile had emerged and started searching the area. He said:
I just decided to get into the water mindful of the fact that any delays would make it difficult to locate the body. At this stage, I was clear in my mind that there was no chance of getting the girl alive.”
When Zimparks rangers arrived, residents had managed to corner the crocodile using nets before striking it with an axe and killing it.
The girl was identified as Trish and her body was taken to Kariba District Hospital mortuary.- The Herald
Manchester City won 4-1 against reigning Premier League champions, Liverpool, on Sunday, their first time to do so at Anfield since 17 years ago.
With the victory, Manchester City also equalled the all-time winning run by an English top-flight side across all competitions, winning each of their last 14 matches, the same number as Preston (ending in 1892) and Arsenal (ending in 1987). Meanwhile, Liverpool are the first side to lose three straight home league matches in the following campaign after winning the English top-flight since Chelsea did so almost 65 years ago back in March 1956.
After 23 games this season, Liverpool (40) now have 27 fewer points than they did at the same stage last season (67), the biggest drop by any reigning champion at this stage of a campaign in English top-flight history.
Manchester City are now 10 points clear of fourth-placed Liverpool, who have just suffered their joint-heaviest Premier League defeat. Salah’s penalty cancelled out Gundogan’s opener, but two Alisson errors and a stunner from Foden sealed Liverpool’s fate and some even believe the Reds’ title hopes are now dead. Manchester City got goals from İlkay Gündoğan 49′, 73′, Raheem Sterling 76′ and Phil Foden 83′.
John Stones connected with Foden’s wonderful cross and put it at the back of the net but after a VAR check, the goal was dismissed for an offiside.- Pindula News

Tinashe Sambiri|President Nelson Chamisa has said Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration must address teachers’ grievances as a matter of urgency.
According to President Chamisa, the Grade Seven results are dismal because Mr Mnangagwa’s administration is failing to address teachers’ conditions of service.
“Grade 7 results:It’s impossible to have good results from a bad and irresponsible government. Results are a reflection of input and support. We must address teachers’ conditions of service, have SMART planning and funding. It’s a governance and leadership problem. We must fix it!!
The Grade 7 results reflect a lack of support and investment to the education sector over time. Skewed priorities by government are robbing our future generations,” President Chamisa wrote on Twitter.
PRESIDENT Mnangagwa’s Vision to ensure Zimbabwe becomes an upper-middle class economy by 2030 will be achieved and the governing party Zanu PF should remove impediments, including land barons, that stand in the way of the goal, an inter-ministerial committee heard.
This comes as President Mnangagwa has directed relevant authorities, that include ministries, Government departments and agencies to leave no stone unturned in bringing sanity to the country’s local authorities that he said had failed Zimbabwe.
The President said corrective measures must be taken to bring order to the country’s growth points, towns and cities that have seen the mushrooming of new settlements, albeit without the requisite facilities such as water, sewer, electricity and roads around the country.
In the midst of the confusion are land barons, working in connivance with local councils, that have been fleecing desperate home-seekers by allocating them land on wetlands and other areas earmarked for other purposes.
The governing party directed its officials to weed out any party members dabbling in the illegal selling of residential land from the party as part of an exercise meant to rid Zanu PF of rotten apples.
According to a Government document, Zanu PF officials who attended the inter-ministerial meeting were told to make sure that in future people are elected to positions in local authorities on merit and not merely popularity.
“The party, Zanu PF, should adequately explain what the President has directed, and which Government is about to do. The party must ensure none of its structures, office bearers, and/or officials stand in the way. Above all, the party should, from now onwards, revise and re-fashion its selection criteria for elective officials to ensure our public affairs are manned and managed by people with the key competencies. We have seen the costs of deploying characters who may be popular but wield no relevant skills required in running affairs of our municipalities.
“Never again should we blindly select candidates who run on party tickets. Municipalities and rural councils are about service delivery to the electorate. This is only competently done by structures which have a well-balanced set of skills which interact harmoniously for the benefit of home seekers and ratepayers. We have to reinvent our local Government politics.”
In his address to the nation last week the President slated urban councils, that are mostly run by opposition parties, for failing the nation.
The current wet spell exposed urban councils after houses in Harare, Chitungwiza, Gweru, Mutare, other towns and growth points were flooded.
“Government is deeply concerned with the illegal expansive construction in wetlands and river basins as well as the construction of houses without the provision of requisite infrastructure such as roads, water, sewer and electricity. The current excellent rains received across the country have exposed and lay bare the extent of problems associated with unplanned settlements in our urban, peri-urban and growth points.
“Henceforth, relevant ministries are being constituted into working groups that will focus on social service delivery as well as arresting the negative impact of the chaotic, unplanned illegal settlements in growth points, towns and cities.
“Meanwhile, alternative spaces have to be urgently identified and developed for relocation of families with houses built in wetlands and other undesignated areas. The Ministry of Housing and Social Amenities, along with other ministries, departments and agencies must immediately identify such areas and ascertain the quantum of affected households”.
The President is living up to his promise that there will be no sacred cows in the fight against corruption, with the anti-graft broom set to sweep away even those in the politburo who could be found on the wrong side of the law.
“Zanu PF and this administration will never allow the party to be a haven of malcontents and criminals. I thus exhort party cadres and the citizenry at all levels in line with our national development agenda to be guarantors of a corruption-free
Zimbabwe. Report all cases of corruption to the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) and the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP),” said President Mnangagwa.
However, some with links to the party are desperately trying to escape from the long arm of justice by throwing mud in the current exercise, notably sucking in ministers in their cases, something that the Special Anti-Corruption Unit has said it will guard against.
Wellington Peyama, one of the persons who is being investigated for dishing out residential stands in Chitungwiza, who also claims to be a member of Zanu PF has been trying to throw mud at the Minister of National Housing and Social Amenities Mr Garwe.
However, sources within the anti-corruption busters said Mr Peyama will have his day in court to answer charges of dishing out stands to desperate home-seekers in Chitungwiza.
Under President Mnangagwa’s watch, several ministers and top Government officials have been arrested on corruption charges with two former Cabinet ministers losing their jobs after being implicated in graft.
Going forward, President Mnangagwa said all members, across all party structures, must reflect on the party’s unassailable revolutionary character upon which the Government continues to build the country towards Vision 2030 to be an upper middle class economy.
Meanwhile in order to bring back sanity to urban councils, the Ministry of Environment and Tourism working with EMA will the lead the way in mapping wetlands around the country so as to come up with a masterplan of all ecologically sensitive spaces which must not be disturbed by human settlements.
That having been carried out, the Ministry of National Housing and Social Amenities, and the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works will step in to identify and quantify all places in flood-prone areas, on illegal spaces and other irregular places to jointly establish “the magnitude of likely displacement from unavoidable demolitions”.
Along with the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works, the Ministry of Land, Agriculture, Water, Fisheries and Rural Resettlement should identify suitable alternative land on which to relocate families and households which will be affected by the impending programme.
Relevant ministries are also expected to draw, and redraw plans for orderly settlements both on new spaces and those reclaimed after demolitions with the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development expected to mobilise funds for the construction of new planned settlements that should result in the development of the real estate sector, a sector which can contribute as much as 20 percent to the country’s GDP.
The Ministries of Energy and Power Development, Women Affairs, Community and Small Medium Enterprise Development will also be roped in to add the new settlements to the national grind and also bring sanity to cooperatives respectively. -Herald

Bulawayo has closed all of its Covid-19 quarantine centres owing to shortage of public space to accommodate returnees.
At the peak of the first wave of the deadly virus last year, the city had seven quarantine centres including Bulawayo Polytechnic and United College of Education as major centres for those who were returning mostly from South Africa and Botswana.
The other quarantine centres were Youth Centre, Townsend High School, Gifford High School and Standard Hotel.
Bulawayo provincial welfare officer, Fanwell Dzoma revealed that the city was now using Esigodini and Bubi districts for quarantine services.
“For now, there is no quarantine centre for Bulawayo, those in need of quarantine are now being accommodated at either Inyathi Public Training Centre in Bubi or Eskhoveni Public Service Training Centre at Esigodini,” Dzoma said during an online reform indaba meeting hosted by Zimbabwe Coalition on Debt and Development (ZIMCODD) on transparency and accountability of Covid-19 resources.
“The challenge why we no longer have a quarantine centre in Bulawayo is because we don’t have a public institution that can cater for returnees, who need to be quarantined.
“Of cause, we have been using these polytechnics and schools, but when they opened, we then had the challenge of where to put these returnees.
“As a result, it was decided that since we don’t have public institutions like the other districts or provinces like Bubi and Esigodini, so we may now have to use those public institutions.”
Dzoma said after schools and colleges opened around September last year, they opted for Khumalo Hotel, however, the idea was aborted as the government was losing lots of money through bills.
He said since all returning residents are now required to provide Covid-19 PCR certificates at all entry points, quarantine centres were no longer very necessary.
“Another issue now is most of these returnees that we were receiving from the past weeks are being tested at the border and most of them are now coming with their results.
“From the border, they are transported to Bulawayo and they go to their homes, they no longer need quarantine if they are negative but for those that are positive, they go to Inyathi or Eskhoveni but they are very few,” Dzoma added. -Daily News

The global cancer landscape is changing, according to WHO experts, on the eve of World Cancer Day 2021.
Breast cancer has now overtaken lung cancer as the world’s mostly commonly-diagnosed cancer, according to statistics released by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) in December 2020.
So on World Cancer Day, WHO will host the first of a series of consultations in order to establish a new global breast cancer initiative, which will launch later in 2021. This collaborative effort between WHO, IARC, the International Atomic Energy Agency and other multi-sectoral partners, will reduce deaths from breast cancer by promoting breast health, improving timely cancer detection and ensuring access to quality care.
WHO and the cancer community are responding with renewed urgency to address breast cancer and to respond to the growing cancer burden globally that is straining individuals, communities and health systems.
In the past two decades, the overall number of people diagnosed with cancer nearly doubled, from an estimated 10 million in 2000 to 19.3 million in 2020. Today, one in 5 people worldwide will develop cancer during their lifetime. Projections suggest that the number of people being diagnosed with cancer will increase still further in the coming years, and will be nearly 50% higher in 2040 than in 2020.
The number of deaths from cancer has also increased, from 6.2 million in 2000 to 10 million in 2020. More than one out of every six deaths is due to cancer.
While changes in lifestyle, such as unhealthy diets, insufficient physical activity, use of tobacco and harmful use of alcohol, have all contributed to the increasing cancer burden, a significant proportion can also be attributed to increasing longevity, as the risk of developing cancer increases with age. This reinforces the need to invest in both cancer prevention and cancer control, focusing on actionable cancers like breast, cervical and childhood cancers.
Late diagnosis and lack of access to treatment exacerbated by COVID-19 pandemic
The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the problems of late-stage diagnosis and lack of access to treatment. These occur everywhere but particularly in low- and middle-income countries. In addition to having to cope with the disruption of services, people living with cancer are also at higher risk of severe COVID-19 illness and death.
A WHO survey conducted in 2020 indicated that treatment for cancer had been disrupted in more than 40% of countries surveyed during the pandemic. The findings of the survey have been backed up by published studies indicating that delays in diagnosis are common, while interruptions to and abandonment of therapy have increased significantly. Meanwhile, enrolment in clinical trials and research output have declined.
All stakeholders are working to respond. Some governments have been enabling their populations to seek cancer care safely. Health professionals have adapted treatment to meet the needs of their patients, including through the use of telemedicine, and civil society has supported patients by helping them coordinate their appointments and complete their treatment plans.
World Cancer Day
World Cancer Day, with its slogan “I can and I will”, is also an opportunity to show WHO’s commitment to other major global cancer programmes, on cervical cancer and childhood cancer.
The adoption of the Global strategy to accelerate the elimination of cervical cancer as a public health problem and its associated goals and targets by the World Health Assembly in 2020 has provided added momentum to cervical cancer efforts. Three targets have been set for 2030: 90% of girls fully vaccinated with the HPV vaccine; 70% of women screened; and 90% of women identified with cervical cancer receiving treatment.
Cancer is also a leading cause of death for children and adolescents, with an estimated 400 000 children diagnosed with cancer each year. On International Childhood Cancer Day, 15 February, WHO will be releasing a “how-to” guide for policy-makers and programme managers on strengthening childhood cancer programmes; a new assessment tool to facilitate harmonized data collection and to enable expedited, real-time interpretation of collected data on cancer among children; and an online community-of-practice information-sharing hub for childhood cancer.
Breast, cervical and childhood cancers all have a high chance of cure if diagnosed early and treated appropriately. This World Cancer Day, WHO is moving ahead with our partners around the world in efforts both to prevent and control cancer and also to provide support to all people living with cancer, wherever they live and whatever their circumstances.

Let’s all remember them in our prayers for God’s greatest protection from this deadly pandemic and that they be set free for they did not commit any crime but are victims of the State’s ruthless acts of wanting to silence opposition voices.
In the end we need new leaders who respect human rights and the rule of law.

By DespatchLive| Controversial fake “miracle” pastor Jay Israel has been nabbed by the police. He was found in possession of a fraudulent passport and permit.
The development comes after his ex girlfriend speaking on ZimEye, revealed that he is not at all 28 as he purports to be.
The man had at the time, also confirmed to ZimEye that he intends to launch a revenge porn attacks against his former lover.
Israel, a Zimbabwean and leader of Spirit Life Church in East London, was arrested in Fourways in Gauteng and kept at the Douglasdale police station.
Questions about the arrest were sent to Gauteng spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo, who said he would reply but he had not responded at the time of writing.
A police source on Friday confirmed that Israel was in custody after his arrest on Tuesday. He had illegal papers on him. He was denied bail.
Israel, whose real name is Jacob Dube, has been wanted by the East London police for nearly two years.
He has a pending case of intimidating his former spokesperson Tabisa Ralawe in May 2019.
The Dispatch reported in 2019 that Israel allegedly threatened to kill Ralawe, after she posted a series of Facebook posts claiming he was a “fraud” and a “fake prophet”.
Israel in July 2020 apologised to Ralawe in a YouTube video for the “war” that had come between him and Ralawe.
He said he did not remember threatening to kill Ralawe.
After being accused of being a fake, Israel, launched an online crusade against other pastors calling them fake.
Pastors have called for the law to take its course in dealing with Israel.
Pastor David Mqamelo of Good News Community Church and chair of the OR Tambo Minister’s Fraternal said: “We are sitting with a case of Omotoso [Timothy] and Bushiri [Shepard] who are in the country illegally.
“They make millions [from running churches] before it is discovered. We do not want people who dirty the gospel. We are against this habit. Those who are still doing it should stop.
“We are praying to God to expose those who do strange things in his name. Let the law take its course in this matter. If he has to be deported, that must happen. We love our brothers but they must do things right,” he said.
Pastor Vuyiseka Njengele lambasted Israel for tarnishing the gospel, saying: “He must serve his time if found guilty. We do not condone people who come from other countries illegally and do practices that target disadvantaged people. Everybody must learn from this. We do not want people who are a front.” – DespatchLive
By A Correspondent| National Constitutional Assembly (NCA) leader, Professor Lovemore Madhuku has described the pathetic pass-rate recorded in the 2020 Grade 7 examinations as a national disaster which calls for every citizen to play a part in restoring the once flourishing education sector.
Madhuku who is also a constitutional law expert said the 38 percent passrate recorded causes him pains as he himself is a beneficiary of a solid primary education which has now been eroded by governance.
“The less than 38% pass rate for the 2020 Grade 7 results causes me pain. It is a national disaster. I am what I am because of a solid primary school education. The results are a call to national duty: I will find a way of contributing to the improvement of our education system,” said Madhuku.
Further probed by Twitter users, Madhuku hit directly at the government saying it had failed the nation.
“It is a political problem: the Government has failed us here,” added the University of Zimbabwe law professor.
Madhuku said he will use his presence in the Political Actors Dialogue to push for a solution so as to stop the further damage to the country’s education system.
By A Correspondent- A 45 year old Mberengwa woman was found dead near her homestead with her tongue missing.
The killing, which the police suspect could be ritually motivated, occurred last Sunday night in Butete Village under Chief Mahlebadza. Midlands provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident.
He said Beatrice Dube retired to bed around 8:30 pm on Sunday and her body was found lying some metres outside her homestead the following morning.
“Police in Mberengwa are investigating a murder case in which a body of a female adult, Beatrice Dube was found about 500m from her homestead.
“Circumstances are that the night before her body was found, she bade farewell to other family members saying she was retiring for bed.
“About some 20 minutes later, her 13-year-old daughter then followed her intending to give her a mobile phone she had forgotten but she could not find her in her bedroom hut,” said Insp Mahoko.
He said Dube’s body was found by a village boy the following morning.
Insp Mahoko said the deceased was bleeding from the mouth where her tongue was missing. He said police investigations were underway.
“We are appealing to members of the public who might have information helpful to the police investigations to approach any nearest police station,” said Insp Mahoko.-online
By A Correspondent- There was chaos at a Bulawayo cemetery when the family of a deceased injiva blocked undertakers from removing a coffin from a hearse in protest over the funeral parlour’s refusal to allow them to conduct body viewing.
The incident at Umvutsha Park Cemetery is an example of how some people misunderstand some crucial Covid-19 protocols that have been set up for their own safety.
Umvutsha Park Cemetery A handful of mourners witnessed the altercation shortly before 10AM. The deadlock lasted for about an hour as Kings and Queens Real Funeral Service stood their ground, arguing that they were following health protocols.
The remains of Tapson Wilson Gumbo were repatriated from Pretoria in South Africa.
Sources said the dispute emanated from Kings and Queens Real Funeral Service’s refusal to open the coffin so that relatives could conduct body viewing.
The body, which was brought into the country by Kings and Queens Real Funeral Service, was hermetically sealed in a container and placed in a sturdy non-transparent coffin in line with health regulations.
“The deceased’s family argued that the decision by Kings and Queens Real Funeral Service to deny them body viewing was illegal. They based their argument on the Covid-19 free certificate issued in South Africa,” said the source.
“The family in Bulawayo insisted that they wanted to view the body just like what happened in South Africa, but it appears Kings and Queens Real Funeral Service didn’t want, citing Covid-19 health regulations.”
According to documents seen by Chronicle, Tapson died on January 28 due to natural causes. The tests, which were conducted in South Africa revealed that the cause of death was not Covid-19-related.
A news crew arrived at the cemetery shortly after the coffin had been lowered into the grave. This was after the two parties had reached a compromise by agreeing to remove part of the seal to enable relatives to compare the features and colours of the blanket used to wrap the coffin with what they were told by their counterparts in South Africa.
The deceased’s brother, Mr Themba Gumbo said their demands were reasonable and justified as they wanted to avoid burying a wrong body.
“The person that we are burying here is my brother and he was declared Covid-19 negative in South Africa, but surprisingly upon arrival at the funeral parlour we were given an envelope coming from Harare written ‘Covid-19.’ That’s why we asked the funeral parlour to unseal the coffin so that we are 100 percent satisfied that we are burying our brother,” he said.
“It is not like we wanted to violate the health regulations. We simply wanted undertakers to show us the blanket, which was used to wrap the coffin, including another distinguishable item inside so that we could then compare the features and match them with what our relatives in South Africa gave us.”
Mr Gumbo said they resolved the impasse following the intervention of their relatives in South Africa.
“We had to engage our relatives who handled the body in South Africa and that’s how the funeral parlour ended up agreeing to remove part of the seal to enable us to identify the blanket and the other distinguishable item inside,” he said.
One Ms Ndlovu, who is in charge of Kings and Queens Real Funeral Service operations in Bulawayo refused to comment. Acting provincial medical director for Bulawayo Dr Welcome Mlilo said in terms of the health regulations, the ban on body viewing only applies to Covid-19 cases.
“If bodies are repatriated from South Africa or any other country with Covid-19 free certificates, mourners are allowed to follow the traditional ways such as body viewing. However, in circumstances where the cause of death is not known, we automatically treat that as Covid-19 death,” he said.
“That body is supposed to arrive in Zimbabwe hermetically sealed and the coffin should not be opened for body viewing.”
Besides passing through the embassies, the processing of repatriation documents is subject to approval by the Ministry of Health and Child Care. Those who seek to transport the bodies for burial elsewhere are supposed to undergo a tight screening process from authorities.
Zimbabwean and South African health authorities came up with joint stringent measures recently after consultations between South Africa-based funeral parlours and authorities from the two countries.
The Ministry of Health’s director of environmental health, Mr Victor Nyamandi recently said Zimbabweans who die outside the country can be repatriated, but subjected to a rigorous process. He said it is important for parties processing documentation, including funeral parlours, to co-operate with authorities so that Zimbabweans are afforded the decent burials they deserve.

By A Correspondent- MDC-T USA secretary, Andrew Chaponda was allegedly kicked out of the party’s virtual meeting on Saturday after he repeatedly made interjections during the indaba.
Chaponda had moved a motion to nullify the party’s December 2020 extraordinary congress presidential election results during the national executive and national council meetings on Saturday.
MDC-T spokesperson Witness Dube confirmed that indeed there was an attempt to overturn Douglas Mwonzora’s victory for alleged irregularities in the voting process. Said, Dube:
The motion was defeated. It wasn’t popular. The mover of the motion, Chaponda, regrettably tried to hold the national council at ransom by engaging in malicious interjections and gross indiscipline during the meeting.
Chaponda recently challenged Elias Mudzuri’s ascendancy to the vice-presidency as unconstitutional.
Meanwhile, the MDC-T amended its constitution to provide for the appointment of two vice presidents to mirror the national constitution.
Dube added:
The MDC-T national council, sitting as an extension of Congress, moved to amend the MDC constitution to create the position of a second vice-president in the party.
This was an effort to align the party constitution with that of the country as well as closing a leadership vacuum that has the potential of creating instability within the party.-Newsday

By A Correspondent| The High Court has removed an urgent chamber application filed by Zimbabwe Human Rights Association (ZimRights) seeking to compel government to provide a National Deployment Vaccination Plan and present a budget for the purchase of coronavirus vaccines before Parliament after ruling that it is not an urgent matter.
Through its lawyer Tendai Biti of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, ZimRights had on 3 February 2021 filed an urgent chamber application at Harare High Court seeking an order to compel President Emmerson Mnangagwa, Health and Child Care Minister Constantino Chiwenga and Finance and Economic Development Minister Mthuli Ncube to promulgate regulations relating to the public policies and measures to deal with registration, acquisition and distribution of coronavirus vaccines.
Through the urgent chamber application, ZimRights, represented by Dzikamai Bere, its National Director, had argued that President Mnangagwa, Chiwenga and Ncube had failed to put in place measures to ensure the roll out and availability of coronavirus vaccines to Zimbabweans.
Bere said government’s failure to acquire vaccines had resulted in unnecessary loss of lives while President Mnangagwa had failed to protect people through acquiring, testing and providing a rollout plan for coronavirus vaccines.
Ncube, ZimRights said, had committed a serious breach of people’s constitutional rights by failing to provide financial resources in the 2021 National Budget for the acquisition of coronavirus vaccines.
Through its application, ZimRights wanted President Mnangagwa, Chiwenga and Ncube to be compelled to publish and lay before Parliament a detailed coronavirus rollout plan providing full details on acquisition of vaccines, storage and distribution of drugs, priority recipients of the vaccine and a detailed budget for procurement of vaccines.
But High Court Judge Justice Felistus Chatukuta on Friday 5 February 2021 told Biti that the ZimRights application had been removed from the roll of urgent matters as it was deemed not urgent.
Justice Chatukuta stated that the ZimRights application was not an urgent matter as government had first declared a national lockdown in March 2020 while the National Budget was presented to Parliament in November 2020.
ZimRights, Justice Chatukuta ruled, ought to have been aware and took action over the past one or two months that the National Budget had not made provision for the purchase of vaccines and other countries had started receiving batches of vaccines in December and early in January.

Jurgen Klopp has backed Alisson after the goalkeeper made two calamitous blunders during Liverpool’s 4-1 home defeat at the hands of Manchester City.
The errors gifted the visitors with two goals in the second half. The keeper committed the first of two distribution errors which resulted in Ilkay Gundogan restoring City’s lead. Four minutes later, he passed the ball to Bernardo Silva who set up Raheem Sterling for another goal.
Speaking after the game, Klopp insisted the goalkeeper is still “world class” and highlighted how many times he has come to the team’s aid.
The gaffer said: “It’s two [instances] where we didn’t give him a lot of options, especially around the first one. I think the second one, yeah, he just mis-hit the ball.
“I don’t know, it’s not a real explanation for it but maybe he had cold feet or something. It sounds funny but could be. But there’s still the opportunity to kick it in the stands.

By Israel Dube- It is shocking that while countries like South Africa have already received their first batch of Covid-19 vaccine from India, the broke and out of sorts government of Zimbabwe is sending a begging bowl to a few remaining local companies, private citizens and well wishers to mobilise funds to import Covid-19 vaccine. They are even considering charging citizens for each vaccine jab.
Surely this “begging bowl- carrying” government has no shame, its begging knows no boundaries. Many years of shameless begging has affected their thinking capacity and reasoning.
The companies and citizens of both Zimbabwe and Republic of Matabeleland are currently bearing the brunt of the dysfunctional economy due to 40 years of mismanagement, corruption and unfettered looting of state resources by the same government, and one year long lockdown. Where on earth will they get the money to donate to the thieving government?
Begging, corruption and theft is in the DNA of Shona people. The government of Zimbabwe holds a very misguided belief that the outside world owes it.
They believe that state resources are theirs to empower themselves through corruption and stealing and the donor community has a duty to fund all state functions of Zimbabwe.
This has become so serious that many countries in the world now fear a state visit by the Zimbabwe head of state.
In April 2015 the 4 day state visit to South Africa by the then Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe caused fear in South Africa.
The Zimbabwe Independent newspaper had reported that Mugabe may ask President Jacob Zuma to help fund a Southern African Development Community summit on industrialisation‚ which was due to take place in Harare on April 26 2015.
Mugabe’s Spokesman George Charamba was forced to come out and defend Mugabe, “We are a bit unhappy that we are being portrayed as coming here with a begging bowl to ask for money‚” he was quoted by The Times newspaper as saying.
The fears are justified as any august state visit by any Zimbabwean head of state can be easily turned into an embarrassing begging mission.
The Zimbabwe government make head lines around the world as the government of beggars.
Check the following headlines: i)Zimbabwe govt gets out begging bowl- The Mail and Guardian 14 January 2005
ii) Zim sends begging bowl for $1, 5 billion as drought bites- The Africa Report. com 10 February 2016
iii) Cyril Ramaphosa can expect pleas for a bail out from Zimbabwe- The Times 10 March 2019
iv) Zim to beg for poll funds- $ 192m required- News24 30 January 2013
In 2008 an easy to treat cholera claimed more than 5000 lives when the always broke government of Zimbabwe failed to curb the disease. With covid-19 vaccine, the same government has done what it knows best – sit down, calculate a total amount of US$ 200 million and send out a begging bowl to citizens, companies and well wishers to donate.
This irresponsible, greedy, selfish, corrupt, thieving and useless government is putting the lives of over 5million Matabeles and 10 million Shonas based in Zimbabwe in great danger in times of pandemics and famines.
This government of heartless tribalists, tribal oppressors, rapists and cold hearted murderers has failed to protect Matabeles and its own Shona from diseases and it will fail to defend us in times of war.
We appeal to fellow Matabeles to wake up, smell the coffee and join MLO in fighting for the restoration of Matabeleland state which shall re- emerge as the Republic of Matabeleland.
The Shona supremacist government of Zimbabwe has made us a laughing stock of the world. We know that begging, corruption and theft forms part of their DNA and culture. That is why they wipe out state coffers and carry a begging bowl wherever they go in the wold without an aota of shame.
But in our Matabele culture the above is unspeakable abomination. Why do we allow ourselves to be ruled by failures who cannot even run a tuck shop? Why do we allow ourselves to be ruled by heartless human slaughterers and rapists? Why do we let the government of thieves and shameless beggars misrepresent us around the world and tarnish our good name?
Tinashe Sambiri|In a typical case of politicization of the courts, the State has shifted the date of Alan Moyo’s bail application hearing without informing the defence team.
According to a statement released by the MDC Alliance, Alan Moyo was supposed to appear in court on Monday. However the case has been moved to February 10.
“Alan Moyo ‘s lawyer Obey Shava confirmed to Change Radio that Alan who was supposed to appear in court today will now be in court on the 10th of February.
The state moved the dates without informing the defense,” said the MDC Alliance.
According to MDC Alliance Students Council Secretary General Rujeko Hither Mpambwa, the postponement of Alan Moyo’s case is calculated to punish the human rights activist.
“We are witnessing worst form of abuse of the courts by Mr Mnangagwa’s administration. The postponement is meant to punish our comrade. As we have said before Mnangagwa must release all political prisoners,” said Mpambwa.
Tinashe Sambiri|After failing to silence MDC Alliance vice chairperson Hon Job Sikhala, Emmerson Mnangagwa is now plotting to charge the fearless politician with rape, it has emerged.
In a tweet at the weekend, Hon Sikhala warned veteran journalist Hopewell Chin’ono that Mnangagwa is plotting to charge targeted political foes with rape.
“Liberty and freedom cannot be manufactured. So is power. It requires citizens coalescing around common issues that affect all of us as a people. Only the people are ultimate owners of power. Power is not owned by individuals or a coterie around the throne of power.
The paradox in our country is the grievances question.
1) Corruption 2) Economic mismanagement, plunder and looting of the same 3) Security of persons. Arrests, abductions, torture and a myriad of human rights abuses 4) Citizens rights to elect leaders of their own choice.
I am informed that some concocted rape charges are coming. This will not only affect me but other citizens classified as state enemies. Beware @daddyhope and another I am not at freedom to mention,” Hon Sikhala wrote on Twitter.
MDC Sec General @hwende has dismissed audios circulated by Douglas @DMwonzora aide, Memory Mbondiya who says he once approached Mwonzora to negotiate for a car. He described the allegations as false and misleading.

By A Correspondent- A leaked letter has suggestions accusing Vice President Constantino Chiwenga of funding a Chitungwiza businessman in a fight to State House.
So if someone like Lilian (Timveous) comes through, she will go straight for Amos Chibaya’s Mukoba constituency. She will be the MP for Mukoba with immediate effect.
So you need to move with speed and guess what, Hwende of all people went to negotiate with Mwonzora to say, “yes you took my seat, please make sure I do not lose my car.”
Lily let me tell you, people are so cunning I am telling you. So the issue of the car you should know that they are some hard cores who will pretend like they are staying with Nelson Chamisa, but negotiate with Mwonzora in silence. we will make an exception with these to say one two three four people have come back to MDC T, so on the issue of their cars you should let them off, so the lawyers should out everything on hold, the issue of harassing people concerning cars so it is something that you don’t have to worry. so you should now take effort to come and negotiate but as it stands I tell you already that they will not be an election at all.
Do you think that if we get 2023 even MDC T, is ready for an election? There is nothing like that, so, the situation is terrible my bhururu-friend. So we had a fruitful meeting. I think things are taking shape you just need to take a decision at the end of the day, to take a bold decision like: this is what I’m going to do, it’s about me and my family because every other person is looking out for themselves, because they are selfish people and they are negotiating behind-the-scenes you are left behind the scenes, so make a move my sister.
Listen well Lily, don’t relent at all, don’t fail to talk to Douglas Mwonzora because he said the most important thing people should not worry about positions in the party because we shall go to the ordinary Congress for now what we need to do is to secure a position in Parliament or in the Senate or in the government.
Once you have secured a position you will have even funds to enable you to campaign for the next stage of posts. But where we want to take the party forward is, we want loads of positions that people can scamble for to win, rather than going to an election because we know if one person of such and such a faction, if they win the whole slate, isn’t it you know what happens at congress? The whole slate of that person is the one that enters. So sometimes it is not worth it so the most important thing is to secure your slate first and then you will fight for your position later. Which position? The one at the party level, but as of now, we are looking at national interests. Do you see now? By A Correspondent- Mutora Mission Clinic, one of the biggest health facilities in Gokwe North, does not have a single operational toilet, staff and local residents say.
The institution used to be the biggest health facility in Gokwe North before the commissioning of the Chinese-built Gokwe North district hospital in 2012.
Reports suggest that there are no functional public toilets at this Roman catholic institute as they are all either full to capacity or are in a bad state to be used.
Mutora Mission Clinic is used as maternity waiting shelter for the district and expecting mothers are seen during the day urinating in public every day.
One expecting mother said:
We only use these toilets when we want to pass stool only because they are full to capacity.
Meanwhile, the sole toilet for staff members is also in bad shape. The restroom that was built after a protest by one worker has since developed some cracks. A nurse who spoke on condition of anonymity said:
We do not have a toilet at all here, the ones we have at our homes are all full or dilapidated.
Patients who spoke to this publication said they use council toilets at the bus terminus to relieve themselves. The council toilets are away from Mutora Mission Clinic. One patient only identified as Tendai said:
We are forced to use council’s public toilets since there are no toilets at the clinic. We leave the clinic and walk about 20 minutes to access these toilets.
The state of the restrooms has triggered outrage from nurses at this facility. They have since called for the Catholic authorities to address the issue. An anonymous staff member said:
We are not living comfortably here, they should renovate their houses as promised and build us some toilets. How can we educate patients on the importance of toilets when we do not have them here.
Some have turned guns at the manager of the institution, a primary care nurse called sister Juliana Ndabambi, saying she lacks the requisite qualifications and skills to run the clinic.
Mutora Mission Clinic has more than 24 workers and houses more than 150 waiting mothers at peak.
Authorities are said to have pledged to renovate the 13 dilapidated houses but no action has been taken so far.

By A Correspondent| Mutare Provincial Magistrate Lazarus Murendo has ordered City of Mutare (CoM) to pay more than RTGS$9 000 to a nurse, who sustained injuries in 2018 after she was assaulted by the local authority’s municipal police officer.
Magistrate Murendo ordered Phineas Munyika, who is employed as a municipal police officer by CoM, and the local authority to pay damages amounting to RTGS$9 727 to Kumbirai Furusa, a nurse.
Munyika roughed up and assaulted Furusa on 6 July 2018 when he was carrying out a joint operation dubbed “Operation Restore Sanity” together with some Zimbabwe National Army members and Zimbabwe Republic Police officers to rid Mutare City of unregistered taxi operators and some vehicles parked at undesignated places.
Furusa was assaulted while she was seated on the front passenger seat of a taxi, which she had boarded on her way to Greenside suburb in the eastern border city.
During trial at Mutare Magistrates Court, Furusa, who was represented by Peggy Tavagadza of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights to sue Munyika and CoM, told Magistrate Murendo that the municipal police officer dragged the nurse outside the taxi leading her to fall down and sustaining injuries on her knees.
Two witnesses namely Jonathan Takudzwa Makanya, a soldier and George Mufunda, a municipal police officer testified during the trial of Munyika as they were part of law enforcement officers enforcing the joint operation dubbed “Operation Restore Sanity”.
Furusa suffered some bruised on her knees and a plaster which she already had on her wrist and which was supposed to be removed on 9 July 2018, had to be replaced as a result of the fall from the taxi.
Her new plaster was only removed after six weeks although she continued to experience pain on her wrist.
Because of the injuries which she sustained, Furusa said she could not cook for her family and endured a lot of pain.
In his ruling, Magistrate Murendo held Munyika accountable for causing Furusa to sustain injuries and ruled that it was highly unlikely that the nurse would just fall out of a vehicle in which she was seated in properly on the passenger seat.
Magistrate Murendo ruled that Munyika had a duty of care towards Furusa yet he recklessly and out of overzealousness tried to execute his duties without regard to the safety of the nurse.
The Magistrate ruled that Munyika threw caution to the wind and decided to embark on a dangerous and suicidal conduct without regard to the safety of the nurse and indeed himself.
Out of the RTGS$9 727, Magistrate Murendo ruled that RTGS$9 500 is payment for damages for pain and suffering while RTGS$227 is for special damages. Furusa had initially claimed RTGS$10 000
