“Zimbabwean People Loved And Worshipped Ginimbi,” South African Friend Tells South Africa

Sowetan Live

Serge Cabonge

Zimbabwean socialite and multimillionaire Genius “Ginimbi” Kadungure’s funeral was full of drama, bling, dollars and expensive whiskey.

Kadungure, who died in a horrific car accident last week, was laid to rest on Saturday in his home village of Domboshava outside Harare.

He got a send-off fit for a king, with his friends saying about 3,000 mourners had attended the funeral.

There was drama on Friday when one of Kadungure’s luxury cars that was part of a convoy of luxury cars that was driving from the mortuary to his home experienced mechanical problems, his friend Serge Cabonge said.

He said one of the cars had a water pipe burst and began smoking badly.

Cabonge said there were also issues with another car that was donated by a funeral parlour for the funeral service.

In a video Sowetan has seen, Cabonge is seen sitting on top of a convertible Mercedes-Benz G-Class and throwing dollars at scores of people lining the side of the road as the convoy drives through.

“There was a guy who was driving Ginimbi’s new car and we don’t know what he did. It just had a burst the pipe and had to be towed home,” said Cabonge.

Cabonge said the convoy took five hours because everyone demanded a chance to honour the man they regarded as their hero.

“The cars were blocked along the way because they were no police to control the crowd. People wanted to celebrate Ginimbi and we had to stop and I ended up giving them dollars so that we could pass.”

“I’m speechless. What I saw on Friday is something that I have never seen before. People loved and worshipped Ginimbi because he was changing their lives. In his hometown he had started a development project by building access roads,” he said.

After the drama with the cars there was an all-white party that was attended by politicians, famous people and his friends to honour him.

He was buried in a gold casket with Versace logos. Cabonge said the coffin cost R70,000.

Shelly Pilate Hearse, who worked for Kadungure, described her former boss as a selfless person who respected everyone.

“We never thought that we would have about 3,000 people coming to the funeral. I’m glad that it went well without any issues because we had a strong contingent of security personnel who made sure everything was in order,” she said.

“The activities to bid him farewell began on Friday with an all-white party the way he would have wanted. On Saturday the proceedings started with a church service led by the Salvation Army, which is their family church. The service took three hours before he was laid to rest. It has not sunk in yet that he is gone and he is now a former boss.”

Wearing black, the mourners then held an after-tears celebration where expensive booze flowed and Cabonge dished out more money.

Kadungure rose to prominence at the age of 26 as a supplier of liquefied petroleum ( gas and has had many run-ins with the law, according to Zimbabwean newspapers.

He was arrested in February for undervaluing his Rolls-Royce Ghost luxury vehicle which he claimed he had bought for R3m but the state said the actual cost had been R5m.

Previously he was arrested on tax evasion charges for importing liquefied petroleum gas worth millions of dollars without paying duty.

Rape Accused Khupe Spokesperson Khaliphani Phugeni Quits

Khaliphani Phugeni

MDC-T interim spokesperson, Khaliphani Phugeni has temporarily relinquished his role to focus on allegations of raping an unnamed woman in Bulawayo.

Phugeni allegedly had unlawful sexual intercourse with the woman who could not be named for ethical reasons, without her consent during the period extending from June to November 2018, at Emhlangeni and in Magwegwe West, Bulawayo.

The 44-year-old last week appeared before Western Commonage regional magistrate, Sibongile Marondedze, facing charges of contravening section 65 of the Criminal Law, Codification and Reform) Act (Chapter 9:23).

Phugeni, who doubles as MDC-T leader Thokozani Khupe’s spokesperson, has denied the charges saying they are politically-motivated. He said:

As you know that I am defending myself in court against malicious, politically motivated charges; I am therefore requesting a leave of absence from November 13, 2020, to the conclusion of the aforementioned court process, I will be back at my desk with my full attention to the information and publicity department as always.

MDC-T secretary-general Douglas Mwonzora said Hatfield MP, Tapiwa Mashakada, who is Phugeni’s deputy, will take over as spokesperson of the party.

Will The Warriors Turn The Tables Against Algeria In Harare Today?

State Media

Preparing for battle, Warriors in camp.

WARRIORS captain, Knowledge Musona, says his troops are ready to turn the tables when they meet old foes Algeria at the National Sports Stadium this afternoon.

Kick-off is 3pm.

Fans will not be allowed into the stadium, in accordance with the CAF guidelines on Covid-19 prevention, although other countries have been allowed to have supporters at their matches.

ZIFA, however, have made arrangements for a live broadcast on ZBC TV.

Zimbabwe will go into the match after a disappointing 1-3 defeat in the first leg in Algiers four days ago.

Apart from poor preparations, the Warriors were largely criticised for contributing to their downfall, after making a series of mistakes that gifted their opponents with the goals.

Musona, who appeared in cheerful spirits after the team’s final training session at the match venue yesterday, believes they have done their home work

“The team is ready, we have been training very hard trying to correct the mistakes that we made in Algeria,’’ he said.

“I think the guys have learnt (from their mistakes) and the only thing we need to do is to try and correct where we went wrong and to try to convert our chances.

“I think it will be a very good game and we are ready.

“As you can see, everyone is smiling and the morale is high. I believe it’s a sign that everyone is ready to fight tomorrow (today) and to give his best.

“So, we can’t wait to play the game and give something to the nation.’’

Many of the Zimbabwean players were confident too.

But, it won’t be a stroll in the park, considering the stature of their opponents.

The Desert Foxes drew first blood in Algiers courtesy of goals from Baghdad Bounedjah, Sofiane Feghouli, and Riyad Mahrez.

“These are qualifiers where teams qualify on points. So, since match day one, it was very important that in every game, we give our best and try to collect maximum points,’’ said Musona.

“It’s been the same from day one and it’s going to be the same tomorrow (today) until the last match.

“We are going to attach the same importance to each game.”

However, another defeat today could see Zimbabwe slipping the group standings, in the event nearest rivals Zambia beat Botswana today.

Chipolopolo moved into third position, following last week’s 2-1 win over the Zebras, which earned them their first set of points.

“Of course, anything can happen in football but we don’t depend on other teams. We play for ourselves,’’ said Musona.

“We want to earn our own points to qualify. We don’t have to look at the other teams and expect favours.

“I think it’s best we do the job for ourselves. The first thing is to focus on the match day that is coming and forget about the other teams.

“We have to do our best to take maximum points and then we will see about the results of the other games.

“But, it’s not finished yet because, after this, we have to play two more games with six points at stake.

“It’s unfortunate that we are playing in an empty stadium. We cannot change anything.

“It’s not anyone’s fault so we just have to try and win.

“I know they (supporters) will be supporting us from home. They will be watching on television so we need to play hard and try to win and make them happy.’’

Warriors coach, Zdravko Logarusic, who has also come under the spotlight, said Zimbabwe were not prepared to walk empty-handed in these back-to-back AFCON qualifiers.

Talbert Shumba is expected to make a rare start in goals for the Warriors, replacing the error-prone Elvis Chipezeze, who twisted his knee in Algeria last week.

Chipezeze, who was blamed for Algeria’s opener, underwent MRI scans on Saturday and the doctors said he may need up to two weeks to recover.

The technical team have roped in FC Platinum’s Petros Mhari for cover.

“We are Warriors, why should we be scared of anything? We created three-four chances in Algeria but we conceded goals that we shouldn’t be conceding in these types of games,’’ said Logarusic.

“Some of the goals were more like gift goals and we have to cut those mistakes. We don’t have to give away goals like that.

“If they are to score (today) they have to work hard for that.

“We are going into this game to win. They (Algeria) haven’t lost in a long time but they will lose tomorrow (today). That’s our main target.

“We have to pick up three points. There is no reason why we shouldn’t aim for that at home.’’

Algeria coach, Djamel Belmadi, said one of his side’s main goal is to break Egypt’s record for the longest unbeaten run in Africa. The Pharaohs went 24 games without a defeat at the start of the century.

“Our players are keen on breaking the record for the team with the longest unbeaten run in African matches, currently held by the Egyptians.

“Small things like this hold a lot of meaning, even if it’s not our biggest ambition. For me, reaching the 2022 World Cup finals is my main goal.

“The players love challenges and they want to go to distance. Winning the 2019 AFCON wasn’t enough,” said Belmadi.

Tino Kadewere Confident Of Victory As Warriors Take On Algeria At The NSS

Tino Kadewere in action for warriors

WARRIORS forward, Tino Kadewere, says they need to take their chances when they take on African champions Algeria in a 2021 AFCON qualifier at the National Sports Stadium this afternoon.

The match gets underway at 3pm.

The Zimbabweans lost the reverse fixture 1-3 at the 5 July Stadium in Algiers last Thursday night.

The result left the Warriors in an awkward position, going into the fourth round of the qualifying fixtures in Group H, with third-placed Zambia now within striking range.

Kadewere missed two good chances on Thursday last week before finally getting a consolation for the visitors in a match played at a very high tempo.

But, the Olympique Lyon star reckons it wasn’t his day and has since set his sights on helping the team clear the tough hurdle erected by the Desert Foxes this afternoon.

“Football is about learning from your mistakes. We made some mistakes, as players, in the first leg against Algeria in Algiers last week,” said Kadewere.

“We picked a lot of lessons from that defeat in Algiers.

“With a little bit of luck, we should have won the game or, at least, forced a draw.

“But that’s it, we don’t live in the past.”

He said his teammates, who have been in confined in a bio-bubble at their hotel since their return from Algeria on Friday night, were showing a lot of enthusiasm at training and he believes they will win today’s game.

“As players, we are ready for the second leg right in our backyard,’’ he said.

“We rarely lose AFCON qualifiers at the National Sports Stadium.

“Algeria are a great team with top, top players but believe, me, we gonna go hard on them.

“We missed opportunities, a lot of them, when we played away but that won’t happen here.

“Hopefully, we will rectify our mistakes, going into this crunch tie, it’s all systems go. I am ready and all the players are ready to roar.

“We respect our opponents, for who they are, but we are not looking much into the past. This is a new game, in a new environment.

“We are ready to pounce on them. What is more important is to take every chance that comes our way.”

While Kadewere is talking tough, newboy Jordan Zemura is praying hard for a win to give him a special birthday present.

The Bournemouth fullback celebrated his 21st birthday on Saturday night and, while his teammates joined him to mark his special day, he has demanded just one thing from them — a win over Algeria.

Zemura started the match against Algeria in Algiers, where he made his senior debut.

The fearless defender, who has just broken into the Bournemouth first team, showed some fine touches and played with the spirit of a veteran.

Although he was replaced by Kuda Mahachi, deep into the second half, Zemura had done enough to please coach Zdravko Logarusic.

“He is a fine youngster with a very big heart. His quality is unquestionable and the passion he has shown is top class,” said the Croat tactician.

“If you have players like him in the team, you are assured of competition.

“His technique, and tactical play, is up there, he is very intelligent too.”

And Zemura is praying the Warriors give him a win today.

“I am happy to have clocked 21 years. It’s always a good feeling but a win, over Algeria, will really be good,’’ he said.

“My teammates have all celebrated with me but I have only one message for them all. Let’s win this match and I will be satisfied.

“Algeria are definitely a good team but we have quality in our team as well.

“We played with a lot of determination and matched them in their backyard. Now we are playing at home and we should stand a good chance.”

Loga has since hinted that he would make some changes to the squad which started in Algeria.

“That’s a coach’s decision. I am ready if I am asked to start and I will be okay to start on the bench as well. What is important is for us to get a win, whoever plays.”

Algeria top Group H standings, with nine points, while Zimbabwe are second on four points, after three round of fixtures.

Zambia, who face Botswana in the second of their back-to-back ties in Gaborone today, are third with three points to their name while Botswana anchor the log with a single point.

Two teams from each group qualify for the AFCON finals which have been moved by a year to 2022 in Cameroon due to Covid-19.

Councils To Use ZESA To Recover Outstanding Rates, Pay Council Before Buying Prepaid Electricity.

State Media

Harare Provincial District Coordinator Mr Tafadzwa Muguti

All council debtors will soon have a portion of the money they owe local authorities being deducted by Zesa each time they purchase prepaid electricity, a Government official has said.

The proposal comes against a backdrop of council operations being crippled by the ballooning bills, with Harare City Council being owed almost $1,9 billion and Chitungwiza $150 million.

Addressing a meeting with Chitungwiza management recently, Harare Provincial District Coordinator Mr Tafadzwa Muguti said there was need for innovation in terms of resource mobilisation.

“Think outside the box,” he said. “I will be engaging Zesa, in particular ZETDC, because we now want to make bills which are owed by residents to be put on electricity bills.

“That is the only way councils will be able to collect their money. When one tops up electricity, they will then pay for what is owed to local authorities. I think this will start to help address a lot of backlogs of the money that councils are owed.”

Mr Muguti said the model proved to be effective for Zesa, which introduced prepaid metering and is recovering what it is owed through deducting a certain percentage each time one tops up their electricity.

He said the partnership may be a faster and effective way of recovering debts than engaging debt collectors that take forever to get residents pay up.

“I know you have debt collectors, very ineffective that they end up doing very unscrupulous things to get that money,” said Mr Muguti. “So, instead of wasting money even going to the courts, engage in smart partnerships.”

Chitungwiza Progressive Residents Association secretary general Mr Gift Kupurati said the Zesa route would help councils recover their money.

But Chitungwiza and Manyame Rural Residents Association acting director, Mr Brighton Kanyama, said councils should address reasons why residents were not paying bills.

“For example, residents are buying water at up to $10 per bucket, but the council has continued to bill residents for unavailable water,” he said.

“Some residents last received water more than three years ago, but the council continues to send water bills. So it will be unfair to get money for services not offered using Zesa as a conduit.”

NPRC Commissioners Term Of Office Coming To An End, What Did They Achieve Other Than Endorsing POLAD?

State Media

Outgoing NPRC Commissioners pose for a photo.

The National Peace and Reconciliation Commission (NPRC) is set to be reconstituted following the expiry of the tenure of the Justice Selo Nare-led commission.

Parliament’s Committee on Standing Rules and Orders has published an advertisement calling on the public to nominate persons to be considered for appointment as members of the Commission.

In terms of the Constitution, Parliament submits 12 successful candidates after holding public interviews and the President will appoint eight from the list given to him.

But the current process does not affect the chairperson, Justice Nare, as his term of office still subsists.

Nare was appointed by President Emmerson as the convenor of the hopeless Political Actors Dialogue, POLAD in his capacity as NPRC chairman.

He has since been reporting that POLAD was scoring successes for the country.

“The Committee on Standing Rules and Orders (CSRO) of the Parliament of Zimbabwe is mandated, in terms of sections 237 and 251 of the Constitution, to nominate candidates for appointment by His Excellency, the President, to serve as Commissioners on the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission as provided for in Chapter 12, Part 6, of the Constitution,” reads a notice published by Parliament last week.

“Vacancies will arise in the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission on the 23rd February 2021, on the expiry of the five-year term of the current Commissioners.

“Accordingly, the Committee on Standing Rules and Orders is hereby calling on the public to nominate persons to be considered for appointment to the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission.

“Members of the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission must be chosen for their integrity and their knowledge and understanding of, and experience in, mediation, conciliation, conflict prevention and management, post-conflict reconciliation or peace building.”

In terms of Section 252 of the Constitution, some of the functions of the NPRC is to ensure post-conflict justice, healing and reconciliation, develop and implement programmes to promote national healing, unity and cohesion in Zimbabwe and the peaceful resolution of disputes, bring about national reconciliation by encouraging people to tell the truth about the past and facilitating the making of amends and the provision of justice.

Other functions include developing procedures and institutions at a national level to facilitate dialogue among political parties, communities, organisations and other groups, in order to prevent conflicts and disputes arising in the future, develop programmes to ensure that persons subjected to persecution, torture and other forms of abuse receive rehabilitative treatment and support, receive and consider complaints from the public and to take such action in regard to the complaints as the Commission considers appropriate, among others.

Parliament has set December 4, 2020 as the deadline to receive submission of the names.

Section 320 of the Constitution precludes the following persons from appointment; Members of Parliament, councillors, members of provincial or metropolitan councils, members of local authorities and members of Government controlled entities.

Commissioners must not, in the exercise of their functions, act in a partisan manner, further the interests of any political party or cause, prejudice the lawful interests of any political party or cause, or violate the fundamental rights or freedoms of any person.

Mnangagwa Set To Launch New Economic Blueprint Today, Will It Work?

Paul Nyathi

Emmerson Mnangagwa

The National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1), a new economic blue print crafted by Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube is expected to be launched today by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

NDS1 will succeed the Transitional Stabilisation Programme (TSP), which ran from October 2018 to this year.

The third step will be National Development Strategy 2 to be implemented from 2026 to 2030.

On Tuesday last week, Cabinet approved NDS1.

The blueprint will run under the theme “Towards a Prosperous and Empowered Upper Middle Income Society by 2030”.

Some of the 14 priority areas are: economic growth and stability; food security and nutrition; governance; moving the economy up the value chain and structural transformation; human capital development; environmental protection, climate resilience and natural resource management; housing delivery; ICT and the digital economy; health and well-being; transport, infrastructure among others.

Employers Confederation of Zimbabwe president Dr Israel Murefu said there was need for NDS1 to provide comprehensive measures to support industry given the shocks suffered by the measures required to contain Covid-19.

“We expect any measures to be taken to be comprehensive enough to enable economic turnaround and consequently business recovery so that we mitigate the damage caused by Covid-19,” he said.

“We also expect policy consistency to enable business planning and management of costs which, if not contained, could threaten its survival.”

Zimbabwe Coalition on Debt and Development executive director, Janet Zhou, praised the NDS1, but wanted Government to push hard on public-sector led growth.

“We need to focus on public-sector reforms and public-sector led growth where previously and history tells us that our public sector used to contribute up to 40 percent of gross domestic product,” he said.

“Most vulnerable people in Zimbabwe rely on these public institutions. We need to see the intention of NDS1 in terms of reviving the public institutions, poverty issues, food security, housing, shelter and all the constitutional rights.”

Khupe And Mwonzora Eliminate Abednico Bhebhe Who Was Set To Win Presidency At Congress And Set Up Alliance With Chamisa

Own Correspondent

Thokozani Khuphe and Abednico Bhebhe,

The MDC-T has expelled top contestant for the party’s presidency at the upcoming extra ordinary elective congress leaving the group deeply divided.

Abedinico Bhebhe, the acting organising secretary, was shown the door during a national council meeting held virtually allegedly “for grossly violating the constitution of the party [by] supporting another political party other than the MDC-T”.

The meeting also endorsed acting president Thokozani Khupe, interim secretary-general Douglas Mwonzora, acting chairperson Morgen Komichi and former Energy minister Elias Mudzuri as candidates for the presidential election to be held next month.

Bhebhe’s expulsion meant that he was disqualified from contesting for the presidency.

The meeting further endorsed the suspension of provincial nominations of candidates after declaring the four contestants.

Initially, Khupe and Mwonzora are said to have been pushing for the nomination of only two candidates to contest for the presidency, but Mudzuri and Komichi were drafted in after they protested.

Sources within the party told ZimEye.com that Bhebhe was set to win provincial nominations ahead of Khupe and Mwonzora and probably win presidency at Congress as all delegates aligned to “expelled” now MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa would vote for Bhebhe who would later forge an alliance with Chamisa.

One of the presidential candidate, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said he was unhappy about the new nomination process.

“It is a departure from both tradition and procedure in the party,” he said.

“The national committee has five representatives from each province.

“The provincial nomination committee has about 140 representatives from each province, which forms the provincial council mandated to sit and nominate the presidential candidate.

“These people per province cannot be replaced by the national council.

“Nomination by the national council is invalidated in terms of the practice and constitution.”

He added: “We also note that the so-called national council, which purportedly met over WhatsApp has expelled Bhebhe.

“It must be stated categorically that according to the MDC constitution, a standing committee member can only be expelled by a two-thirds vote of the national council in a secret ballot.

“There is no substitution for this provision in the constitution of the MDC.”

He accused Khupe and Mwonzora of manipulating the process to choose a substantive leader of the party under the cover of Covid-19 restrictions.

The official alleged the register to be used by voters at the congress was being kept a secret by the two.

He said over-reliance on virtual meetings was meant to conceal that the people, who are attending their NSC and NC meetings were not part of the 2014 structures.

“There is no register of voters for the congress. A lot of people, who are in the 2014 structures have never been invited to attend even a single meeting,” he said.

“This is causing tension in the party.

“People are also being threatened with recall and expulsion if they raise any objections like what Bhebhe did.

“It is surprising that we have not met physically so that we know who is who, who is still with us and those that have left or died.”

He said there were ways the party could meet safely and make important decisions.

The official added: “Why should we fear Covid-19 to assemble about 150 members of the national council or 76 for the national executive committee yet we are planning to hold a physical congress where over 4 000 delegates are supposed to attend?

“The Zanu PF politburo is meeting here and there, with over 100 people, the MDC Alliance national council is also meeting notwithstanding Covid-19, what is only important is respect of social distancing.

“It is fallacy that the MDC-T cannot meet physically now for just 150 people, but is looking at a venue for 4 500 people. There is a hidden motive.”

High Court judge Justice Webster Chinamora last week reserved judgement in a case where two MDC-T members Gilbert Kagodora and Naison Mamuse are seeking an order to force Khupe to release key information about the congress.

Meanwhile, Mwonzora defended the move to expel Bhebhe and dismissed accusations that he was manipulating the election process.

“First and foremost, we have acted above board in accordance with the law,” Mwonzora told The Standard.

“Bhebhe himself participated in virtual meetings.

“If he thinks that we acted unlawfully, he can find recourse in the courts or any other remedies.

“The other thing is that we held the meeting virtually because of fear of exposure to Covid-19.

“Secondly, it’s less expensive to hold virtual meetings and, thirdly, those who have wanted to use violence were unable to use that violence.”

He said the virtual meetings were also meant to ensure that MDC Alliance supporters do not disrupt the congress.

“I think people just want to blame, instead of using the provincial councils for nomination we have escalated the nomination to a much higher organ of the party and no one can challenge that,” Mwonzora said.

Three Things That You Need To Know About Ginimbi

By Simbarashe Nyamadzawo

Ginimbi as controversial as he was, 3 facts can’t be disputed

  1. Anga ariMbinga.
  2. He was popular and he will be missed by his legion of followers.
  3. He lived a happy life many would envy.

As someone who grew up in the same village -Domboshava in which Ginimbi hailed from it is hard for me to ignore his legacy and what it represents.

I took time to reflect on his legacy and analyze the allegations raised by his critics, unfortunately I could not reach decisive point.

I last met Genius Kadungure 3 years ago at OR Tambo International Airport, we just exchanged greetings as I was rushing to catch the Gautrain. He asked me to call him which I did the following Monday and he wasn’t in the country. I never made a follow up.

Ginimbi represents different things to different people. While a lot has been written about his riches and flamboyant cars, very little is in public record about Genius Kadungure Foundation, the philanthropic activities and and his generous deeds.

Inini hangu ndakazvimiririra what inspired me most about Gimimbi is the fact that he was proud of his home area, to an extent of building a mansion there. That property will remain “standing” long after all the flashy cars have depreciated.
He proved any reasonable doubt to the young boys and old men alike from Nyamande, that it’s possible for a villager to amass wealth and build a massive property kuJecha.

That mansion is a testament that he wanted to be associated with Domboshava. In some of his videos he addressed himself as “Ginimbi your boy from Domboshava.”

Someone once asked him kuti “Unoidi property isina maTitle Deeds?” and Ginimbi gave an unexpected answer.

“Shamwari, ndomadii maTitle Deeds? This house is not for sale, it is my home.”

Like with everyone else. Some will celebrate Ginimbi, otherwise will find pleasure in criticizing him, others will take time trying to decipher the source of his wealth.
To us from Domboshava he remains one of us, a brother. Mbinga.

MDC Alliance Embarks On Massive Recruitment Exercise

MDC Alliance leadership mobilizes and recruits more members in Mpumalanga

By Fanuel Chinowaita

MDC Alliance remain very strong both in Zimbabwe and the Diaspora as its leadership continue to mobilize and recruit more members.

Today the 13th in Mpumalanga, District Chairperson Cuthbert Karimanzira, Organizing Secretary Wadzanai Dzama and Women Assembly Chairlady Beauty Mushore contacted a door to door campaign in Nelspruit (Backdoor and Dwaleni) branches where many Zimbabweans declared their allegiance to Nelson Chamisa.

Speaking to newly recruited members, they said they are very much concerned about the deteriorating state back home and are also disturbed by the way Zimbabweans are being treated by Zanu pf led government which.

They also added that Zanu pf has subjected them to slaves in a foreign land, therefore they vowed to do all they can to remove Zanu pf.

“It’s now clear that Chamisa holds the future of our Country. We have seen it that Zanu pf holds no keys of progress as it has totally destroyed everything in the country.

“We are concerned about our future and those of our children in Zimbabwe. Right now we are seeing people arrested for no crime and tortured in the hands of Zanu pf. Chin’ono has committed no crime but he’s languishing in jail. Some people who are back home think that we are living well here not knowing that we are in a hell. We are living like slaves” , said one of the member.

In addition, Backdoor and Dwaleni new members thanked MDC Alliance leadership for visiting their places and remind them of good news of MDC Alliance.

“Thank you leadership for coming, we were hearing about MDC Alliance in the social media. Now we have seen you, we now have the direction which we also think will bring back the future of our country”, they said.

Meanwhile, Chairman Karimanzira gave them direction and hope. He encouraged them to participate in politics and decide on the future of a better Zimbabwe.

“All what we need is to unite and walk in one direction. Together we will remove Zanu pf and our lives will be better. President Chamisa holds the keys of a better Zimbabwe we all need”, said MDC Alliance District Chairperson Cuthbert Karimanzira.

Two weeks ago, recruitment program was held in Barberton where the Youth Assembly District Chairperson Prince Mushore was leading.

MDC Alliance leadership will be in Bushbuck for the same program on the 14th November.

Mai Titi: But I don’t want them to see you, if they see you they will become alert.

Family, Friends Leak Ginimbi’s Secrets

Genius Kadungure popularly known as Ginimbi

The late Genius “Ginimbi” Kadungure was naughty, cunning and a shrewd businessman who thrived on unconventional means to achieve what he wanted, his relatives and friends have revealed.

Ginimbi, who lived a colourful lifestyle, died after the Rolls Royce Wraith he was driving collided head-on with a Honda Fit last Sunday as he raced towards his Domboshava mansion following a night of fun at Dreams Nightlife Club, which he owned.

Multitudes, from all walks of life, gathered to pay their last respects to the late controversial businessman and socialite, who was buried at his Domboshava mansion yesterday.

Speaking at a gathering before his burial, Ginimbi’s cousin Wanisayi Mutandwa, popularly known as Mahwindo in showbiz circles, let out on how they both entered into smuggling in his formative years.

“I used to be into smuggling back then (early 2000s) and I used to smuggle Remington Gold cigarettes and when Genius came to live at my flat in Harare, he started working for me,” said Mahwindo.

“We would send him to the border, but he would spend the money and apologise. “He actually bought a car before me.”

It has been hard to track as well as ascertain how and when Ginimbi made his money with unconvincing explanations pointing at his company Piko Trading Group (a conglomerate of gas companies located in various Sadc countries) as the source of his massive wealth. He also owned Dreams Nightlife Club as well as being founder of the Genius Foundation.

However, revelations from friends and relatives yesterday proved that Ginimbi was cunning in the way he conducted his business. He basically earned the life he wanted by hook or by crook.

His sister, Juliet, said Genius grew up naughty, but hardworking.

“He had an anointing of business, I and him are separated by four years, but I saw him grow up since he was a toddler and he would do gardening on his own, so I wanted you to know he had an anointing of hard work,” she said.

“He didnt wake up rich, he started small and from humble beginnings where he would come to ask for money from me and would sometimes not repay me, but he had a good heart.”

She added that her brother was “a party animal, who loved fun and no matter how his budget was, he would make sure he had fun and he had fun until he died”.

Two years ago South Africa-based business tycoon Mutumwa Mawere threatened to take legal action over Ginimbi’s alleged refusal to repay a R340 000 debt.

Ginimbi refuted the claims.

Kadungure at some point was arrested on allegations of defrauding Zanu PF MP for Chegutu West Dexter Nduna representing Badon Enterprises and a Kadoma-based miner only identified as Gatawa of R1 581 890.

On numerous occasions, Ginimbi had problems with the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority over unpaid taxes.

Meanwhile, inside a Versace coffin with a Medusa print, the 36-year-old socialite was laid to rest after close to a week of mourning.

Celebrities, businesspeople and artistes he associated with at his prime attended the funeral that was buzzing with activity to the extent that it could have been mistaken for one of his million-dollar bashes.

At the time of his tragic death, Ginimbi was famous for living a life many could only dream of.

From his expensive taste in material accumulation to attracting multitudes at his famed all-white parties, the Domboshava-born and raised man had defied odds by hook or by crook.

The ostentatiously rich 36-year-old’s death saw the past week being inundated with countless condolence messages, conflicting obituaries and conspiracy theories about his death as well as source of wealth.

But, the only consensus among all sections of society is that the free-spirited character was influential in many ways.

However, all his businesses have not publicly issued eulogies for their boss in what has raised questions over their legitimacy with speculation pointing at juju, drugs and smuggling as the sources of his money.

Easy-going as he was, Ginimbi never shied away from controversy and what had become a glorified life in the fast lane ended tragically under the same circumstances.

Details about what will happen to his vast wealth, including super cars, designer clothes and other belongings, are still sketchy although rumours point at his mansion being turned into a hotel or museum.

3 Facts About Ginimbi That Cannot Be Disputed

Mbinga.

Rest In Peace Mutenhesanwa.

Virtually Non Existent PDP Wants Jacob Mafume Recall Case Brought Back To Court

Jacob Mafume

SELF-STYLED People’s Democratic Party (PDP) official Benjamin Rukanda who could not be located when the High Court barred his attempt to recall Harare mayor Jacob Mafume and two councillors has now surfaced and wants the matter revisited.
High Court judge Justice Webster Chinamora granted an interdict against Rukanda by consent after Mafume, and councillors Simon Chabuka and Arnold Dube had challenged a letter pencilled on September 14 which purported that their positions were now vacant because they had been recalled from PDP.

On September 24, when the matter was heard, Rukanda was unreachable and efforts to locate him at the address he had proffered were fruitless after it was established that he was not an occupant at the premises.

Rukanda now claims that when the matter was decided by Chinamora he was not aware and only realised through social media that an order had been obtained against him.

“I read through the social media that the respondents had obtained an order against me, that is when I approached the registrar of the High Court who furnished me with the provisional order which had been granted against me,” Rukanda said.

“On October 12, I filled my opposing affidavit with the registrar and proceeded to serve the respondents. Despite the filing and service of notice of opposition against confirmation of the provisional order the respondents have not done anything to prosecute the case.”

Rukanda claims that after taking that action Mafume and the other respondents have not done anything to have the matter prosecuted and should be dismissed for want of prosecution.

In the application, PDP secretary-general Settlement Chikwinya had urged the courts not to accept any submissions from Rukanda because they did not know him at their party.

He described Rukanda’s conduct as an affront to constitutionalism which would make the public lose confidence in electoral processes.

“The letter by Rukanda is meant to cause confusion. It has since come to my attention that Rukanda has always been an impostor bent on causing divisions in PDP. I aver that there is no legal basis for Moyo to give consideration of a fraudulent letter,” Chikwinya said.

“I aver further that acting in terms of the letter will be a mockery to democracy and a violation of the constitutional rights of the applicants. It will also set a bad precedent in that anyone can purport to write on behalf of a party or institution without even a single proof of having authority to represent that party or faction.”

Bushiri’s Junior Pastor Shot Dead In South Africa Just After Bushiri Claimed His Life Is At Risk…

Paul Nyathi

The late ECG pastor Blessing Mduli Chirwa shot dead in South Africa

Malawian publication, Face Of Malawi reports that a junior Pastor at Prophet Shepard Bushiri’s Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) church has been shot and killed in South Africa.

The pastor has been identified as Blessings Mduli Chirwa who was residing in Cape Town.

The killing by unknown gunmen comes a couple of days after the escape of Bushiri and his wife Mary from South Africa to Malawi against bail conditions set for them at the Pretoria Commercial Crimes Court.

Bushiri alleged that he skipped bail because his life and that of his family were in danger after several death threats following their release on bail over the ongoing case of fraud and money laundering.

The publication claims that ECG pastors are living in fear in South Africa and are planning of following their leader to Malawi.

South Africa Confident That They Will Get Bushiri Out Of Malawi

Paul Nyathi

Shepherd Bushiri

The South African government has issued a statement indicating that they have started a process to extradite self-proclaimed prophet Shepherd Bushiri and his wife from Malawi using the SADC reparation laws.

The Bushiris fled to Malawi last week in contravention of their bail conditions as they are not allowed to travel outside South Africa.

Below is the statement by the South African government:

Government is able to confirm that fugitives Mr Shepherd Bushiri and Ms Mary Bushiri did not leave South Africa aboard a flight on which President Lazarus Chakwera and his delegation travelled.

President Chakwera undertook a successful working visit to South Africa on Friday, 13 November 2020, during which South Africa and Malawi discussed a broad range of initiatives to strengthen relations between the governments and peoples of the two countries.

Following the visit, President Chakwera and his delegation departed from Waterkloof Air Force Base in Pretoria and stopped over at OR Tambo International Airport to collect an additional number of officials who had travelled to South Africa earlier to prepare for the working visit.

Department of Home Affairs immigration officials verified the identities of all passengers and Mr and Ms Bushiri were not on the flight.

When travellers are processed for departure, they are required to present themselves to an immigration officer who, among other checks, verifies that the passport belongs to the traveller.

To ensure that the two fugitives face justice, South Africa has initiated a process to secure their extradition from Malawi in terms of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Protocol on Extradition and other legal instruments, to which Malawi is a signatory.

While this process is underway, law-enforcement agencies will continue investigations into this matter.

Kuromba Theories Without Evidence. Can Black Magic Be The Source Of Wealth In Zim?

By Tinashe Eric Muzamhindo- According to Colin Powell, the first African-American Secretary of State, diplomat and retired general who served as the 65th United States Secretary of State from 2001-2005, a dream does not become reality through magic, it takes sweat, determination and hard work.

Indeed, we get what we sweat for, we get what we work for and not what we wish for. Before going any further, let me extend my heartfelt condolences to the Kadungure family for the tragic loss of Genius ‘Ginimbi’ Kadungure.

In this vein, my deepest sympathies go to the Boora family for the untimely death of the most bedecked comedian Lazarus ‘Gringo’ Boora.

We mourn these influential people and draw inspiration from what they did for this great nation. On November 8 2020, Zimbabweans woke up to sad news of the catastrophic death of business tycoon Genius Kadungure popularly known as Ginimbi.

The glum news of his untimely death intrinsically submerged the social media. It became the most buzzworthy news. Ginimbi died on the spot on the way to his Domboshava mansion along Liberation Legacy Way in Harare known as Borrowdale Road.

His Rolls Royce collided with a Honda Fit and veered off the road and hit a tree. His car subsequently caught fire and no one escaped. He had one Moana and two foreigners who had come for the Saturday night party. Ginimbi was a 36-year-old millionaire who owned top of the range cars.

His mansion was colossal and beautiful. There were however mixed reactions over his accumulation of wealth considering the obscurity of his businesses or source of wealth. I argue that it is only in Africa where the wealth of a black person sets tongues wagging.

The fact that most of Africans are wallowing in abject poverty has made us to conclude that anyone who is filthy rich might have used juju to accumulate wealth. I think we need not to entertain such inferiority complex and start to believe in ourselves.

I have seen myriad conspiracy theories regarding the late Ginimbi’s wealth accumulation. Let it be noted that I am not defending the late mogul because I don’t even know how he amassed his affluence.

Some were saying the late socialite used black magic to acquire his opulence and others attributed his death to the expiry of occult decretal (ku expire kwemhiko in our more understandable Shona lingo).

I am one of the few who believe in hard work and as someone who was not close to Ginimbi I would want to believe the narrative of his friends and close relatives who said the late millionaire was hardworking.

It takes hard work to be successful in life, it doesn’t take voodoo for one to be successful. I believe Ginimbi had a dream and religiously worked hard to achieve his dream.

In life we need to work hard, have fun and make history and it is my postulation that without labour, nothing prospers. I am not dispelling the hoodoo theory behind Ginimbi’s wealth but I am simply advocating for the transformation of our mindset.

I also doubt the purity of his wealth but I have no information regarding his richness. We need to appreciate what our fellow countrymen do especially if they really worked for what they have. Some were asking me why Ginimbi’s companies were not so popular.

Like I said, I was not close to him and I needed not to. My simple response is we have various ways of striking deals, some are murky deals involving the government, others are genuine but it needs someone who is a quick thinker to convince people to dole out money or to be awarded tenders.

I am not condoning illegal or misty deals involving the government or any entity in any way but I am trying to downplay is the conception that every rich African or Zimbabwean uses mojo.

Some take advantage of the laxity of the governments especially in awarding tenders. Remember the Wicknel Chivhayo issue. He ‘legally’ robbed the country of millions and now he is a cocky millionaire.

Others are undercover drug dealers who take advantage of their proximity to the oligarchy for immunity. In conclusion, let’s work hard as a people and remember we are who we are today because of the choices we made yesterday.

Consistent hard work leads to success. Everything that involves juju will not last long and doing the best at this moment will put us in the best place for the next moment. The monumental magic is believing in yourself, if you can do that you can be ‘clean’ Ginimbis.

Ladies and gentlemen, lets do whatever we think we can do or believe we can do. Action has power in it not juju.

Ireland Deports Zim Health Care Workers After Rescuing Lives And Risking Theirs In The Covid-19 Front Line

CNN

Health workers working on Covid-19 test samples

Lily was taking her lunch break at the Dublin nursing home where she works when a friend called with the news that an official-looking letter had arrived for her. She asked the friend to open it and read it aloud.

“You no longer have permission to remain in the State and you must now return voluntarily to your country of origin or be deported,” the letter, from Ireland’s Department of Justice and Equality said. It told her she had five days to inform the authorities of her decision.

A flood of emotions rushed up at her, through the layers of her protective equipment. Lily said she wanted to cry, but forced the tears back down inside.

“I had to stay strong for the residents,” she said. “So, I put on a smile but deep down it was incredibly painful.”Lily — whose name has been changed for her safety — said she fled anti-LGBTQ persecution in her native Zimbabwe and came to Ireland in 2016.

She wanted to help others, so studied to qualify as a healthcare assistant; she landed a job as a care worker at a nursing home last year, and hopes to study for her nursing degree in future.

She has worked at the care home throughout the coronavirus pandemic, taking only three weeks off when she contracted the virus herself in April.

Now, with deportation looming, Lily feels she’s facing something akin to her own death sentence.
“They are saying the frontline workers are the heroes … but behind closed doors they are chasing us away and kicking us back [to the countries we fled],” she said.

The Department of Justice’s letter to Lily — issued three weeks before the country entered a second national lockdown to curb a spike in infections and fatalities from the virus — also rendered Lily’s work permit invalid with immediate effect, though she has continued working.

Healthcare worker Constance — whose name has also been changed, as she fears speaking out could affect her case — works in a different nursing home, but faces a similar situation.

In 2019, Constance’s application to remain in Ireland, again based on the anti-LGBTQ discrimination she says she faced in Zimbabwe, was rejected. She said she was told her story didn’t stack up because she didn’t “seem bisexual.”

Given her longstanding dedication to Ireland’s most vulnerable people — both before and during the pandemic — and a glowing reference from her employer, who said her work was essential, Constance said had she felt hopeful that her appeal would succeed.

Instead, she received a letter on October 28, calling for her deportation. She said she had been left heartbroken, her memories of Ireland’s public show of solidarity for healthcare workers earlier in the pandemic now faded and tarnished.

Speaking in the Irish parliament in May, the then Minister for Health, Simon Harris, acknowledged the contributions of some 160 migrant healthcare workers living in “direct provision,” the country’s controversial system for asylum seekers.

Harris said he was extending a “céad míle fáilte” — meaning “a hundred thousand welcomes” — to those migrant healthcare workers. But for those facing deportation, like Lily and Constance, his welcome rings hollow.

In its August report: “Powerless: Experiences of Direct Provision During the Covid-19 Pandemic,” the Irish Refugee Council called on the government to give migrant healthcare workers and others working in the healthcare sector “permission to remain” as a “recognition of their work and contribution to Irish society.”

Bulelani Mfaco, a spokesperson for the Movement of Asylum Seekers in Ireland (MASI) told CNN that the Department of Justice has long been “hostile to people from migrant backgrounds,” but he hadn’t expected them to “go to such lows” in the middle of a pandemic.

Mfaco added that many other migrants were working in essential roles during the pandemic — in retail, as guards and as cleaners — doing all they can to help keep the country afloat.

Mai Titi: Alright, if you can do it in the morning, it’s bho zvekuti, you can then come to the airport to meet me, and I will sort you out, because this person is getting too inflated too much. They are now too inflated.

Mai Titi: But I don’t want them to see you, if they see you they will become alert.

Agent: Are you now doubting me these days? We are literally there right now where … Isn’t it the place is called Mapalo Gardens? This is where I m standing right now. But this person will be electrocuted tomorrow morning. Wait, let me do my logistics. let me do my logistics, but this person is being electrocuted in the morning. For now we are just doing negotiations. for now we shall just be negotiating, but when we get to the morning, that is when we will finish this person. But you must rely on me, you must trust me.

Mai Titi: But if there is nothing you’ve done, it helps nothing. At the offices, they just do their thing, they don’t have offices. They are at their house where they do their events. So now, how will they be caught? Will you be able to do the catch? Is there any more hope? Is there any hope? I don’t think there’s any hope? Because if there is an excuse maybe by now they are now aware. You see? I will give you fuel money no problem, because I was always landing tomorrow, I am landing but I don’t know if this hit job will work.

We Can Beat Algeria-Nakamba

Warriors and Aston Villa midfielder Marvelous Nakamba says the loss to Algeria last Thursday is now in the past and what’s now important is to focus on tomorrow’s return encounter.

Zimbabwe lost 1-3 to the Desert Foxes in Algiers despite playing well and creating a lot of chances but Nakamba insists focus is now on the return game at the National Sports Stadium, slated for tomorrow afternoon at 3pm.

“It’s good to be back at our home ground after such a long time. We just need to dust ourselves up, forget about Thursday’s result in Algeria and concentrate on the return leg at the National (Sports) Stadium. It has been long since we last played at the National Sports Stadium and I am looking forward to doing well for my country. We always do well at home and we hope to keep that spirit on,” Nakamba told The Sunday Mail.

The 26-year-old, who is the only player from Southern Africa in the English Premier League says donning the gold and green Warriors strip is a privilege.

“Playing for Zimbabwe is an honour and I always try and do my best for my country. The sad part is that our fans, who have missed us so much, will not be allowed to watch the game on Monday (tomorrow), but that is the protocol,” he said.

Zdravko Logarusic’s charges will conduct the final training session at the match venue this morning.-Soccer 24

Mbinga.

Rest In Peace Mutenhesanwa.

How To Avoid Drowning This Season

Drowning is the 3rd leading cause of unintentional injury death worldwide, accounting for 7% of all injury-related deaths.

There are an estimated 320 000 annual drowning deaths worldwide.Global estimates may significantly underestimate the actual public health problem related to drowning.Children, males and individuals with increased access to water are most at risk of drowning.

Drowning is the process of experiencing respiratory impairment from submersion/immersion in liquid; outcomes are classified as death, morbidity and no morbidity.

Scope of the problem

In 2016, an estimated 320 000 people died from drowning, making drowning a major public health problem worldwide.

In 2015, injuries accounted for over 9% of total global mortality. Drowning is the 3rd leading cause of unintentional injury death, accounting for 7% of all injury-related deaths.

The global burden and death from drowning is found in all economies and regions, however:

low- and middle-income countries account for over 90% of unintentional drowning deaths;over half of the world’s drowning occurs in the WHO Western Pacific Region and WHO South-East Asia Region;drowning death rates are highest in the WHO African Region, and are 15-20 times higher than those seen in Germany or the United Kingdom, respectively.

Despite limited data, several studies reveal information on the cost impact of drowning. In the United States of America, 45% of drowning deaths are among the most economically active segment of the population. Coastal drowning in the United States alone accounts for US$ 273 million each year in direct and indirect costs. In Australia and Canada, the total annual cost of drowning injury is US$ 85.5 million and US$ 173 million respectively.

There is a wide range of uncertainty around the estimate of global drowning deaths. Official data categorization methods for drowning exclude intentional drowning deaths (suicide or homicide) and drowning deaths caused by flood disasters and water transport incidents.

Data from high-income countries suggest these categorization methods result in significant underrepresentation of the full drowning toll by up to 50% in some high-income countries. Non-fatal drowning statistics in many countries are not readily available or are unreliable.

Risk factors

Age

The Global report on drowning (2014)shows that age is one of the major risk factors for drowning. This relationship is often associated with a lapse in supervision. Globally, the highest drowning rates are among children 1–4 years, followed by children 5–9 years. In the WHO Western Pacific Region children aged 5–14 years die more frequently from drowning than any other cause.

Global report on drowning (2014)

Child drowning statistics from a number of countries presented in theGlobal Report on Drowning are particularly revealing:

Drowning is one of the top 5 causes of death for people aged 1–14 years for 48 of 85 countries with data meeting inclusion criteria (1).Australia: drowning is the leading cause of unintentional injury death in children aged 1–3 years.Bangladesh: drowning accounts for 43% of all deaths in children aged 1–4 years.China: drowning is the leading cause of injury death in children aged 1–14 years.United States of America: drowning is the second leading cause of unintentional injury death in children aged 1–14 years.

Gender

Males are especially at risk of drowning, with twice the overall mortality rate of females. They are more likely to be hospitalized than females for non-fatal drowning. Studies suggest that the higher drowning rates among males are due to increased exposure to water and riskier behaviour such as swimming alone, drinking alcohol before swimming alone and boating.

Access to water

Increased access to water is another risk factor for drowning. Individuals with occupations such as commercial fishing or fishing for subsistence, using small boats in low-income countries are more prone to drowning. Children who live near open water sources, such as ditches, ponds, irrigation channels, or pools are especially at risk.

Flood disasters

Drowning accounts for 75% of deaths in flood disasters. Flood disasters are becoming more frequent and this trend is expected to continue. Drowning risks increase with floods particularly in low- and middle-income countries where people live in flood prone areas and the ability to warn, evacuate, or protect communities from floods is weak or only just developing.

Travelling on water

Daily commuting and journeys made by migrants or asylum seekers often take place on overcrowded, unsafe vessels lacking safety equipment or are operated by personnel untrained in dealing with transport incidents or navigation. Personnel under the influence of alcohol or drugs are also a risk.

Other risk factors

There are other factors that are associated with an increased risk of drowning, such as:

lower socioeconomic status, being a member of an ethnic minority, lack of higher education, and rural populations all tend to be associated, although this association can vary across countries;infants left unsupervised or alone with another child around water;alcohol use, near or in the water;medical conditions, such as epilepsy;tourists unfamiliar with local water risks and features;

Prevention

There are many actions to prevent drowning. Installing barriers (e.g. covering wells, using doorway barriers and playpens, fencing swimming pools etc.) to control access to water hazards, or removing water hazards entirely greatly reduces water hazard exposure and risk.

Community-based, supervised child care for pre-school children can reduce drowning risk and has other proven health benefits. Teaching school-age children basic swimming, water safety and safe rescue skills is another approach. But these efforts must be undertaken with an emphasis on safety, and an overall risk management that includes a safety-tested curricula, a safe training area, screening and student selection, and student-instructor ratios established for safety.

Effective policies and legislation are also important for drowning prevention.

Setting and enforcing safe boating, shipping and ferry regulations is an important part of improving safety on the water and preventing drowning.

Building resilience to flooding and managing flood risks through better disaster preparedness planning, land use planning, and early warning systems can prevent drowning during flood disasters.

Developing a national water safety strategy can raise awareness of safety around water, build consensus around solutions, provide strategic direction and a framework to guide multisectoral action and allow for monitoring and evaluation of efforts.

KHUPE VICTORY: MDC-Alliance Has Never Held A Presser About Impala Or Ferrets, Now Holds A Function To Punish Own Member Abused By Ferrets

The Bigger Picture- Zanu PF working from an answer to destroy MDC Alliance.

Thokozani Khupe

By Mafirakureva | Following the rigged elections of July 31 2018 by Emmerson Mnangagwa, Zanu PF has failed to rig the economy. Since 2018 Zanu PF has not fulfilled a single election promise. From “Zimbabwe is open for business”, Electricity to the people, employment, better education to good health delivery system, the situation is getting worse and worse. Whilst the economy has totally collapsed, nothing is functional and Zimbabwe is on auto-pilot as we speak.

The Judiciary system is captured as dissenting voices are silenced and jailed for criticising the government. Draconian laws are being enacted as Zanu PF intensifies its efforts to destroy the strongest and biggest opposition political party MDC Alliance. All this heading to a one party state with a sweetheart Opposition party MDC T.

The scandalous SC judgement that was deemed moot and overtaken by events was crafted to dismember the MDC Alliance. In fact it is Nelson Chamisa who is being targeted because he refused to recognise Mnangagwa as a legitimate President and refused to join their POLAD which they continued with Khupe and other 2018 Presidential candidates and it didn’t work that’s why they turned to their plan B – which is the SC judgement.

The narrative of fake abductions is something that MDC should take seriously. Zanu PF has set an agenda that MDC Alliance is behind these fake abductions. The accusations of senior MDC Alliance leadership that they are working with the ferrets is leading to fulfillment of their agenda. Whilst some MDC A members have been entangled into believing this agenda it’s a score to Zanu PF. This is how Zanu  PF is going to convince the international community that it’s not them who are abducting people but MDC Alliance. MDC A should be careful and open their eyes before they score their own goal. At the end of it all it is Chamisa who is going to be pinned just like what they did to Tsvangirai on the Ari Ben Menashe issue.

The saddest thing is that even some MDC A supporters and structures have swallowed this Zanu PF hogwash propaganda, hook line and sinker. Unlike in the Ben Menashe issue where Zanu was part of the plot. This time Zanu PF is watching from a distance enjoying its plot thickening as MDC A sets itself on fire.

On 30 July, Tendai Masotsha was assaulted by a team of ferrets together with student activist Tawanda Muchehiwa. She is now being punished by MDC-A. Thokozani Khupe laughs as MDC A has never held a press conference to condemn either the ferrets, or Impala Car Rental, now they hold one against their own member way before the full story is known.

Monday is D Day, a conviction of Masotsha in the Bulawayo abduction case of Muchehiwa will be evidence that Zanu PF has been waiting for. An exoneration will also set the internet on fire as key board activists, G40 proponents and other internet trolls will go on overdrive attacking Nelson Chamisa. The Bulawayo province which obliviously has led the charge and providing Zanu PF with the evidence it so much need will also erupt.

It’s going to be interesting! I will take my popcorn and watch from the terraces like Zanu PF as all the attention will be diverted from the people that abducted and physically assaulted Muchehiwa to the MDC A. Meanwhile the country burns, looting continues and Zanu PF plots the next abduction.

Zanu Pf Top Chef Nabbed For Stealing Gold At Gunpoint

By A Correspondent- A Zanu-PF central committee member was on Friday arrested in Mudzi for allegedly being part of a gang that stole gold ore at a local mine at gunpoint.

Tonderai Bosha (37), who is also the ruling party’s secretary for indigenisation in the youth league, was arrested alongside Khumbulani Chivhanga (36), Sydney Homwe (46), Justin Nyamudyambanje (37), Sternford Chikweto (35), Simbarashe Nyandoro (34) and Owen Mutinha (33).

Mashonaland East provincial police spokesperson Inspector Tendai Mwanza referred questions to national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi.

Nyathi said he was not aware of the case and would check with Mashonaland East police.

But information obtained from police sources in Mutoko showed that at around 11am on Friday, Bosha and his accomplices went to TradeInvest Mine, in a vehicle driven by Homwe.

The suspects parked their vehicle about 100 metres from a shaft where some workers were digging for gold.

Homwe allegedly asked the mine workers about their boss’ whereabouts.

The mine’s foreman Never Mangilazi (44) told the crew that he was the one in charge.

Homwe then asked about the whereabouts of the mine owners and Mangilazi told him that one of the directors Josamu Nyangu (43) was in a cabin at the mine.

Mangilazi sent one of the workers, Baxton Masiiwa (27), to call Nyangu, but the director refused to meet the team saying they should instead come to the cabin where he was.

Bosha allegedly produced a pistol and fired one shot into the air while Chivhanga ordered all the workers to vacate the place.

The suspects got into the shaft and loaded six sacks with gold ore.

They also allegedly took a shovel, pick, hammer and two chisels.

Mangilazi reported the matter at Makosa Police Station, who attended the scene and managed to arrest the suspects near the mine after their vehicle broke down.

A search was conducted in their vehicle, leading to the recovery of six sacks of gold ore weighing approximately 100kg, a shovel, pick, hammer and two chisels.

Police also recovered a Walther pistol calibre 7.65mm with a magazine loaded with three rounds in Bosha’s pockets.-standard

Khupe Declared Winner After Being Trounced By Bhebhe?

By A Correspondent- The independent Election Management Body that conducted MDC-T’s provincial presidential nomination election in Bulawayo last week declared interim party leader Thokozani Khupe the winner, despite reports that she had been trounced by organising secretary Abednico Bhebhe.

MDC-T is due to hold its extraordinary congress in November after the Supreme Court ruled that it must revert to its 2014 structures and elect a substantive leader to solve its leadership dispute.

The nominations are part of that roadmap towards the extraordinary congress.

Media reports claimed Bhebhe had polled 170 votes, followed by Khupe who received 35 votes while interim secretary-general Douglas Mwonzora got 7 votes.

In an interview with CITE, the Election Management Consultant who conducted the MDC-T nomination poll, Reverend Anglistone Sibanda said Khupe received 59 votes out of 122 votes cast, making her the province’s presidential choice.

The other contestants were Elias Mudzuri who had zero votes, Komichi Morgan also zero votes, Gift Chimanikire received one vote, Douglas Mwonzora – 15 votes and Abednigo Bhebhe who polled 45 votes.

“Suffice to say that the social media was awash with stories of results and false figures. We want to announce that fictitious people not in the voters roll tried to force their way into the MDC-T nomination,” he said,

Sibanda highlighted he was the elections management consultant after he was ‘agreed to’ by the party’s standing committee and all the candidates who partook in the election,

He alleged members of the MDC Alliance tried to rig and participate in a MDC-T election process.

“It’s important to put on record that we had challenges with accreditation, as people absent in the voters roll wanted to bulldoze their way. We must also say the list of voters was provided to us by all the candidates who were in one room and the list was compiled by the office of the secretary general,” he said.

The outsiders, according to Sibanda, were notable people recalled by MDC-T and no longer party members.

“These were Dorcas Sibanda (former Bulawayo Central MP), Ernest Rafamoyo (former ward 20 councillor) and Tinashe Kambarami (former Ward 3 councillor). Rafamoyo’s wife tried to rig, showing us a name in a list that did not exist,” he claimed.

“The MDC Alliance Nketa youth chairperson, Benny Hlatywayo was a nuisance, trying to cause violence and had to be ejected by security. We don’t know who they wanted to vote for but we are giving you facts. We had to repeat accreditation twice as these people forced their way until the gate at the venue was pulled down leading to skirmishes of violence.”

Contacted for comment MDC Alliance Bulawayo’s Provincial Spokesperson, Swithern Chirowodza, said he was aware of allegations made against Sibanda,  Rafamoyo and Kambarami but insisted they were full delegates of the 2014 MDC-T structures.

“These were members of the MDC-T in 2014 and according to the Supreme Court ruling are full delegates but what is happening is they were recalled for self preservation by Mwonzora and Khupe. They were removed from public office so that they cannot claim to be part of MDC-T structures, which in itself is rigging by Mwonzora and Khupe,” he said.

“Take Rafamoyo in 2014 he was the district chairperson but was recalled so he could be incapacitated from voting. Sibanda was the vice provincial chair at that time but was barred from voting. Barring them is rigging.”

Chirowodza accused Mwonzora and Khupe of wanting to rig themselves to the top, alleging they had instructed their national council to limit the number of candidates who were to take part in the extraordinary congress.

“They are doing this to stop Bhebhe who apparently won the votes in Bulawayo and is a favourite in Matabeleland provinces. They saw the nomination elections will go Bhebhe’s way if he continues. Even Mudzuri who is not an MDC Alliance member tweeted that the elections were not free and fair,” said the MDC Alliance provincial spokesperson.

MDC-T’s elections consultant dismissed as false, allegations that many people were disenfranchised from voting.

“Everyone who was eligible to vote did present themselves and was allowed. But because of the skirmishes, we found ourselves having a discrepancy of an excess of six votes. When  tallying we found out that two were spoilt ballots, leaving an excess of four votes. In any case these were below the five percent margin of error,” he said.

He added that secondly those four votes were inconsequential because even if Khupe were to donate them to the losing candidates, she still remained the winner.

“The discrepancy of four votes does not change the election outcome and after the voting process, as the elections management body we made recommendations to MDC-T for consideration. The party’s national council may consider these in their upcoming meeting this  Saturday,” said the elections consultant.-cite

Lupane Man Jailed For Incest

By A Correspondent- Preshet Mpala (33) of Chimwara Village 3, Gwayi area under Chief Mabhikwa in Lupane was jailed for incest after he had several sexual encounters with his maternal cousin while his wife was hospitalized with an undisclosed illness.

Mpala appeared before Hwange resident magistrate Collet Ncube on Friday facing a charge of incest.

He pleaded not guilty to the three rape counts before the charges were altered to incest during the trial.

The complainant was 18 when the offences were committed in 2018 but trial only started recently.

Mpala was sentenced to 12 months in jail before four months were suspended on condition of good behaviour. He will effectively serve eights month in jail.

Prosecuting Vumizulu Mangena said the two resided in the same village but at different homesteads.

He said:

On the 6th day of February 2018, the two went to the fields to plough. On their way from the fields, Mpala demanded sex from the complainant but she refused.

He dragged her into a nearby church building and had sex with her inside once. After the act, the accused person withdrew a packet of biscuits from his trousers’ pockets and gave the complainant.

The two had sex several times after the first incident – in fields and at the complainant’s place of residence – and the matter came to light after the complainant confided in a relative who spilt the beans.-statemedia

Minor Kills Stepfather

By A Correspondent- A 15 year old Bindura boy allegedly killed his stepfather with an iron bar to protect his mother, who was quarrelling with her now-deceased husband over a love triangle.

Mashonaland Central acting police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Fidelis Dhewu confirmed the case.

“I can confirm a murder case at zvakwana Farm, Bindura, which occurred on Friday,” Dhewu said.

“We have since arrested the suspect, who is a minor.”

The 37-year-old victim allegedly took $50 meant for airtime from his wife, who is the boy’s 38-year-old mother.

The man left his homestead intending to buy airtime, but took long to come back and his wife followed him.

She found him with another woman at her homestead and an altercation ensued.

The wife fled from the alleged girlfriend’s homestead after her husband became violent.

But he followed her and they started quarrelling, forcing the accused to pick an iron bar, which he used to strike his stepfather on the head.

The man sustained a deep cut and died upon admission at a hospital in the town.-standard

Zimbabwe To Export Power By 2025

By A Correspondent- Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa said Zimbabwe will be able to produce 5 000 megawatts of electricity in five years that will be enough to meet local demand and exports.

Mutsvangwa said this while officiating at the groundbreaking ceremony for Zambezi Gas and Coal Mining Northern pit in Hwange on Friday where underground mining is set to start.

She said:

… by about 2025 we should be getting 5 000MW of electricity and this will give Zimbabwe what we want and make the country a net exporter.

Mutsvangwa called upon the private sector to play a part in helping the Government in attaining Vision 2030.

Meanwhile, Zambezi Gas and Coal Mining operations director Engineer Menard Makota announced that the company has begun plans to construct a 750MW power plant after it was granted a license from Government.

Makota said the company expects to generate 150MW in the first phase into the national grid in 2024 which will be followed by 600MW by 2027.-statemedia

“If Demonstrations Are Not Allowed, They Are Not Allowed”: Zanu Pf MP

By A Correspondent- A Zanu PF MP has warned youths that they will be beaten up and arrested by police if they try to air their grievances through demonstrations.

Chirumhanzu-Zibagwe legislator Prosper Machando said this while addressing a National Association of Youth Organisations’ (NAYO) youth meeting in Harare last Thursday.

He said:

Adding a voice to national issues is not bad but very good so that we are heard, but the way we do it is questionable. If the government says demonstrations are not allowed, they are not allowed and if you demonstrate, you will be beaten up and arrested.

… We cannot lie to you so you praise us here when we all know if you get onto the streets, you will be beaten up.”

Six More Miners Feared Dead

By A Correspondent- Six miners, four of them from one family, are feared dead after the mine they were working in collapsed after heavy rains last Tuesday.

The mine is located on the banks of Thekwane River in Matshetshe, Esigodini in Matabeleland South.

The trapped miners have been identified as Nkosilathi Ndlovu (29), Christopher Dube (23), Ndumiso Dube (19) and Blessed Ncube (24), all members of one family, Nduduzo Ntini (28) and another miner only identified as Mlilo.

As of Saturday (yesterday), the miners had not been rescued or their bodies recovered after rescue efforts were stalled as the area was deemed too dangerous to carry out rescue operations by experts from How Mine, which offered help in the rescue effort.

A villager who spoke to the only miner who escaped from the disaster said the miners had been trapped after ignoring advice to leave the claim at the onset of the rains. The villager said: The problem, the guy who escaped told us, was that the other six guys did not think the rain was heavy enough to threaten them.

The area that they were mining at only had a slight drizzle so they thought it was fine but the water was rushing down from the other side of the river.

The mine had three tiers. He was on the third level and his job was to warn those below him when there was an instruction from above.

He told them that it was time to leave but because there are always joking as guys, they did not take him seriously.

Even though he was on the third level when he got out of the mine the water was already at knee length.

Villagers accused the miner owner, Sakhile Ndlovu of denying that she is the proprietor of the claim, saying this delayed rescue efforts.

Mavima told Sunday News last night that if teachers do not report for duty, the government will not pay them bonuses as well as their salaries as it starts implementing a no-work no-pay principle.

Said Mavima: If teachers don’t work then they will not get a bonus. Those who will report to work will get bonuses.

Government will start paying bonuses this month while some will get their bonuses next month.

We are going to make sure that all civil servants get bonuses before Christmas.

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education last week Friday submitted names of teachers who absconded work to the Public Service Commission.

The majority of teachers have refused to go to work since schools reopened in late September citing incapacitation.

Controversy Over Mpilo Central Hospital School Of Nursing Recruitment

By A Correspondent- Activists in Matabeleland have once again lambasted the trainee nurses recruitment system following revelations that only two out of the 45 successful applicants for the Mpilo Central Hospital School of Nursing September intake are from Bulawayo.

Last year in October, the online recruitment of trainee nurses drew the ire of activists and political parties after four locals out of 24 were chosen from the region, prompting ZAPU to stage a sit-in at Mpilo Hospital.

“The same situation has happened once again, as only two student nurses are from Bulawayo, 16 from both Matabeleland North and South while the rest came from Mashonaland,” said hospital sources.

“One even came from as far as Uzumba-Maramba-Pfungwe.”

This list of successful student nurses was compiled by the Ministry of Health and Child Care after applicants applied online and were shortlisted for interviews at respective nursing schools across the country.

However, the online recruitment application process itself has been viewed as discriminatory as applicants from poor backgrounds struggle to access the portal due to lack of access to the internet and high data costs.

“It seems the whole recruitment process is done in secret otherwise it would be interesting to know whether Mashonaland faces the same challenge,” said the sources.

Reached for a comment, Mpilo Acting Chief Executive Officer, Professor Solwayo Ngwenya, distanced the hospital from the recruitment system

“We only receive the list of nurses who are to start training and the list comes from the head office. We are not involved in recruitment, in fact as a hospital we have been worried about the fight against Covid-19,” he said.

Mpilo School of Nursing Principal Tutor, Charity Nyandoro, said they had no say on the recruitment of trainee nurses.

“The role of the nursing school here is just to interview applicants, who would have been shortlisted for interviews. The names come from head office, we conduct the interviews and once we are done with the interviews, we send the names back to Harare. When the final list comes our duty is to train the students,” she said.

Hospital sources claimed people were made to believe the online recruitment used random selection but it was unclear if that selection randomised applicants by district, province or nationally.

“The old system was better because it was done locally but was stopped after nepotism concerns were raised. Now, you can’t penetrate this online system and the region has no say since it is online. You can’t even ask the authorities because they too will say it’s online. Some applicants have even complained that the portal cuts off during the application process, as a result some manage to fill in halfway, others three-quarters and few manage to complete it,” said the sources.

“Since Chinhoyi University of Technology developed the application system, the mandate of selecting local candidates must be given to the National University of Science and Technology to manage and also test the random selection.”

Ministry of Health and Child Care permanent secretary Dr Jasper Chimedza did not respond to an inquiry on the matter.

ZAPU Southern Region Communications Director, Patrick Ndlovu said the recruitment exposed how the government continued with its systematic repression of people in Bulawayo and Matabeleland.

“These clandestine activities are against the spirit of devolution, which the people of this country entrenched in the 2013 constitution. We now see why Zanu refuses to implement the constitution because it goes against its 1979 Grand plan. We will not sit back and see our people put in the yoke of ethnic colonialism,” he said.

Ndlovu pointed out the nursing selection should be conducted in the same way police and the army recruited candidates.

“Police and the army announce that at a particular date they would be at a particular region selecting candidates. Their selection criteria is somewhat fair but when it comes to nursing, why is the selection different?”

Last year, ZAPU descended on St Annes Hospital in Brunapeg, Mangwe  district and shut down the training school after it emerged that the mission hospital had zero local trainee nurses.

Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP) president, Mqondisi Moyo urged the government to enforce devolution and empower locals.

“MRP is disturbed by the continued skewed employment malpractices at Mpilo Hospital. The skewed employment at Mpilo is just promoting unfairness and continued marginalisation while benefiting people from Mashonaland,” he said.

Moyo said MRP needed to see fair regional representation, where the government took transparent, fair and affirmative action to empower all Zimbabweans, especially the youth.

“We now see that the government through the 1979 Grand Plan continues to isolate and marginalise our people. They cannot even respect the so-called constitution of the country where Chapter 14 promotes devolution of power. As MRP we are tired of these inconsistencies, where our youths are denied opportunities even though they are qualified. Hence our fight for the separation from Zimbabwe because the unitary state status does not benefit other minority tribes.

The furious Marichata stormed Chapfukidza’s homestead wielding a log and assaulted her once on the head.

Top School In Lockdown After 5 Pupils Test COVID-19 Positive

By A Correspondent- One of the country’s top schools, John Tallach in Ntabazinduna, about 40 kilometres from Bulawayo, last week went on lockdown after five of its pupils tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, the new coronavirus which causes the disease called COVID-19.

The affected learners were sent home for self-isolation while the remaining students are isolated in their hostels.

The development was confirmed by the director of communications in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, Taungana Ndoro.

He said:

For now, we are fumigating the school as the students, teachers and ancillary staffing are going for the 14-day isolation which started last Monday.

In this case, no learning is taking place with the students isolated in their hostels. Further, of the tests that have been done, we have no new cases but the school will continue working with the Ministry of Health and Child Care to contain the pandemic.

In a letter to parents and guardians, the school head, Bonakele Ncube said the school has since done Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests for all their learners and staff to determine whether they had any more people who had been infected with the virus.

Ncube added that lessons had been temporarily suspended and both learners and staff were made to quasi isolate in their rooms.

Urgent Funding Appeal for Bulawayo Boreholes Drilling Project

by 1893 Bayethe Board of Directors

26th Sept 2020 | The 1893 Mthwakazi Human Rights Restoration Movement (1893 MHRRM) hereby makes an urgent public funding appeal via GofundMe platform link for Boreholes Drilling Project in 3 nominated institutions in Bulawayo, Matebeleland, Zimbabwe due to severe drought leading to a serious water crisis in the City. The Movement has produced a video of this urgent appeal, together with 3 nominated institutions, which can be accessed on the provided GoFundMe link and on the Movement’s website: www.1893mhrrm.org. The funding Appeal total is £17 000 for all 3 boreholes to be drilled urgently in all the 3 nominated institutions.

The Movement has nominated the following institutions to play its small part in urgently addressing the water crisis shortages in these institutions and their local townships. The institutions are eNtembeni Old People’s Home located in Luveve township, Thembiso Children’s Orphanage Home located at Emakhandeni township and Enkundleni Centre in Entumbane township. There are various reasons the Movement has considered for the nomination of these institutions.

Entembeni Home has been nominated due to the fact it has vulnerable elderly who are experiencing periodic severe water shortages. The need for a borehole is therefore urgent. The elderly need to be cared for in an environment that has a sustainable and reliable water supply. Therefore, having a borehole in this institution will benefit them hugely as well as benefit surrounding local Luveve communities.

Thembiso Children’s Orphanage Home is a home for orphaned children and it is vital that these children and the staff looking after them have a reliable and constant supply of water. A borehole in this institution will benefit the children hugely. Local Emakhandeni communities are also expected to benefit from this initiative.

Enkundleni Centre, a Black Umfolosi Imbube and Cultural Centre is centrally located at Entumbane in Bulawayo. It has surrounding townships of Enjube, Ematshobana, Empophoma and Emakhandeni. These townships, like the rest of Bulawayo townships, are experiencing severe water shortages due to a severe and devastating 2019/2020 drought in Matebeleland. The Centre is therefore strategically located to have a borehole that will serve the surrounding townships and communities.

Since May 2020 the Bulawayo City Council has had to limit access to tap water to once a week due to severe 2019/2020 drought in Matebeleland. The dams that supply Bulawayo City, Zimbabwe’s second largest city, are almost dry. The levels for remaining 3 functioning dams are dangerously low at between 20-30% while the 4th dam went below 6% water capacity and has been decommissioned by the City Council. This has forced residents in various townships to try and access water in unsafe wells as the taps run dry, putting everyone at a higher risk of health hazards from water borne diseases such as diarrhoea, cholera and typhoid. Already some parts of the City of Bulawayo are experiencing outbreaks of diarrhoea and typhoid and there have been deaths recorded so far. Therefore, this appeal is urgent as there is a crisis in Bulawayo.

Above and beyond the issue of severe and devastating drought in Matebeleland and poor economy in the country, year 2020 has seen an outbreak of Covid 19 pandemic all over the world. Currently Bulawayo and Matebeleland in general are leading with Covid 19 infections as Bulawayo and Matebeleland are transit travel zones to South Africa, Namibia, Botswana and Zambia and then Central Africa with many travellers passing through.

Residents in the City also spend a lot of time looking for water and food in groups, defeating the social distancing healthcare guidelines on preventing Covid 19 infections. Covid 19 infections are rising in Bulawayo day by day and the situation looks grim.

Therefore, as indicated above, the water situation is currently a serious issue of concern in the city as water supplies are restricted and yet water is a basic daily need for human survival. There is a water crisis in Bulawayo.

Consistent lack of access to clean, safe and reliable water is a serious health-hazard. It also affects all aspects of daily living. Life has become extremely difficult for the elderly, children and the general communities in Townships without predictable water supplies. Looking after the elderly, children and caring after them in residential homes has become a huge challenge. Households in the general communities in townships are also finding it hard to look after their families without water.

The Covid 19 pandemic requires high standards of cleanliness to prevent infections. As we all are aware, the pandemic prevention guidelines involve constant hand washing and self-distancing. These prevention strategies cannot be adhered to by residents when water is a scarce commodity and is in demand. The residents are always out looking for water and food.

For the past 4 months, our organization has been distributing water to local Bulawayo townships in partnership with the City council as an urgent response to a water crisis in the City. We aim to continue with the distribution of water until the rains come. However, we are aware that this programme of water distribution to townships is not a permanent solution but an interim and temporal measure meant to meet the urgent water needs of our local communities in various townships.

The Movement therefore invites the public to donate towards this urgent cause to support an initiative meant to contribute towards solving a water crisis in Bulawayo in Matebeleland in Zimbabwe urgently. As already indicated above, there is a GoFundMe platform link that has been set up by the Movement for donations. Donations can directly be made on this link. The second option is the Paypal option that will be found on our website soon. We encourage donors to visit our site on the following address: www.1893mhrrm.org to access the Paypal option in a couple of days.

Standing together in times of a crisis is not an option but an obligation. “Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much” and “Alone we are strong but together we are stronger”.

We thank your kindness and may you be blessed abundantly for being part of this urgent Water Crisis Project.

R1.7 Million Worth Of Smuggled Beer Intercepted At Border

File picture

ALERT security officials last week intercepted a truck ferrying R1,7 million worth of alcohol and energy drinks that were falsely declared as transit cargo.

Authorities have in recent weeks heightened border surveillance and security systems to curb leakages at the border. Officials said the contraband could have prejudiced Government of over US$187 000 in potential revenue.

“The owner of the consignment had falsely declared that they were shipping the goods in transit to Zambia. However, security officers alerted Zimra officials who established that the consignment was in the process of being smuggled into the country,” said a border official on condition of anonymity.

Zimra’s spokesperson Mr Francis Chimanda could not be reached for comment yesterday.

The Sunday Mail understands that the customs clearing agent who facilitated the attempted smuggling took flight after Zimra seized the goods.

Smuggling of goods into the country through transit fraud is rife, especially at Beitbridge Border Post.

Under the country’s customs regulations, specified goods attract excise duty during importation. Cargo that is in transit is allowed passage through the country for three days subject to acquittal at the port of exit.

However, that is not happening as smugglers have taken advantage of laxity in monitoring or corruption by some officials.

Authorities recently busted a smuggling racket involving nine tankers carrying at least 360 000 litres of fuel worth an estimated R3 million at Beitbridge.

Six of the tankers were headed for Harare while three were destined for Bulawayo.

Ginimbi Buried Amid Pomp And Fanfare

THOUSANDS of people, among them local and international dignitaries yesterday descended on Domboshava to bid farewell to Harare businessman and socialite Genius “Ginimbi” Kadungure.

The popular socialite died last Sunday in a horrific accident after his Rolls Royce collided with a Honda Fit in Borrowdale.

His three friends, Michelle Amuli, Limumba Karim (from Malawi) and Alichia Adams (from Mozambique), died in the accident when the Rolls Royce exploded after the crash.

A number of international and local celebrities attended the burial.

Affectionately known as Ginimbi, Kadungure was buried amid pomp and fanfare at his palatial Domboshava mansion.

The usually sleepy settlement of Domboshava was turned into a sea of expensive vehicles as the who’s who of Harare and beyond paid their last respects to the socialite.

Among those in attendance were senior Government officials, businesspeople, celebrities and ordinary people.

Several guests reportedly flew in from different countries within and outside Africa.

The majority of the people in attendance paid glowing tributes to Ginimbi, whom they described as an astute businessman.

Others said they had learnt a lot from him in terms of entrepreneurship.

Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation Deputy Minister Tino Machakaire said Ginimbi was an inspiration to the youths.

“He was a man of vision, a man who loved his fun and a man who inspired the poor. He lived his life to the fullest and he became the envy of many not just because of his lifestyle but because of his astuteness as a businessman. Many youths have a lot to learn from him and they will definitely miss him.”

Musician King 98 said Ginimbi had helped him to build his career.

“Ginimbi introduced me to important contacts, among them Nigeria musician Davido. He was humble, down to earth and sincere,” King 98 said.

There has been mounting speculation on the value of Ginimbi’s wealth and how it is going to be distributed given that he was not married and reportedly had no children.

In an interview with The Sunday Mail Ginimbi’s lawyer Mr Brighton Pabwe said details concerning the late socialite’s estate would be revealed in due course.

“We are waiting for the entire legal team to make the necessary arrangements. Perhaps by next week we will be having more information,” said Mr Pabwe, who is working with top Harare lawyer Mr Jonathan Samkange.

According to Mr Pabwe, Ginimbi’s fortune will not be distributed “anytime soon”.

“It’s a long process. Interested parties will be called to a meeting and from there, we are going to map the way forward,” Mr Pabwe said.

During the course of the funeral, police had to issue a statement to control the number of people in attendance. In the statement, National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said: “The Zimbabwe Republic Police advises the public that Domboshava Road and some roads leading to the late Genius Kadungure’s homestead are now congested.”

Boyfriend To Model Killed In Ginimbi Accident Refuses To Fund Her Burial, “I don’t know what happened so leave me alone”

IHarare

While the country is mourning and still reeling from the death of flamboyant businessman Genius Kadungure, very little attention has been paid to the victims he perished together with.

At the time of his untimely death, Ginimbi as he was popularly known as was with 3 other people, namely Mitchell Amuli known on social media as Moana, Limumba Karim Cazal, a Malawian businessman who was based in South Africa and Alichia Adams, a Mozambican model and social media influencer.

Information on the non Zimbabwean victims or the accident has slowly began to filter through.

Alichia Adams is a bit of mystery since she came from a Lusophone community, meaning her social media fame on the Zimbabwean side was a bit limited. Only those who ran in the same circles as Ginimbi might have known her best.

Alichia Adams perished together with Moana and Karim after Ginimbi’s car exploded when a fire broke out.

She was burnt beyond facial recognition and the police had to pull out her charred remains from the car.

A picture has surfaced on social media of a man who is believed to be the late Alichia Adams’ boyfriend.

The man has only been identified as Lima, the how and when about him is still a mystery.

Lima is said to have refused to pay the funeral costs of Alicia Adams after the family approached him saying

“Where was she and what did she do? who was she with? She talked to me and said she’d be back week before, that didn’t happen, I don’t know what happened so leave me alone”

It’s not clear if Alicia Adams’ body has been repatriated yet, as there were reports that DNA tests had to be carried out to confirm if it was her body indeed.

Adamant Zimsec Releases Public Examinations Time Table

State Media

File picture of students writing examinations

THE Zimbabwe Schools Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) has released timetables for the 2020 November candidates with Ordinary and Advanced level exams set to commence on December 1, while Grade Seven tests begin on December 3.

The Government has indicated that from next year, learners will not be assessed by final exams alone but through the continuous assessment model that incorporates coursework.

The last papers for this year’s Advanced Level examination candidates will be written on December 18.

Ordinary Level candidates will break exams for the festive season on December 18, resume on January 5 and sit for the final paper on February 5.

Grade Sevens complete their examinations on December 17.

Despite announcing examination dates, ZIMSEC says it will publish dates for 22 Advanced and Ordinary level practical subjects later.

Zimsec board chairman, Prof Eddie Mwenje, said:

“The practical subjects’ dates will be announced once everything is in place. However, we are working on not shifting the timetable too much because if we do so we might not be able to have Grade Sevens write and have their results this year.

“So we are going to stick to the timetable as much as possible. We have parents that need to look for Form One places. Teachers that mark will also need to be given a break so that come next year we will not have too much pressure.”

This year’s batch of examination classes is likely to be the last to have education results graded using examinations alone as schools will be required to extensively implement continuous assessments, which incorporate course work.

Primary and Secondary Education Minister Ambassador Cain Mathema said work was at an advanced stage to implement the continuous assessment model.

“We are currently working on various modalities for the implementation so that learners’ passes or failures are not only graded based on a one or two-hour examination,” he said.

“So from next year, continuous assessment will be there.”

ZIMSEC estimates that about 1, 2 million pupils will sit for this year’s examinations, which have been hampered by failure of some teachers to report for duty.

Government has however, introduced crash programmes for the examination classes to ensure that learners catch up on lost time.

Advanced level practical subjects that will have dates announced later include Building Technology and Design 6003/2, Theatre Arts 6026/3Art — Controlled Test 6029/2Food Technology and Design 6036/2 Home Management and Design 6038/2Technical Graphics and Design 6047/3 Dance6050/3 Musical Arts 6053/2, French6068/1, Textile Technology and Design 6069/2, Physical Education, Sport and Mass Displays 6070/2, Sport Science and Technology.

Ginimbi Did His Business In Very Unusual Ways | OPINION

By Discent Bajila

  1. He was the CEO of Piko Trading Group which owns four companies namely Pioneer Gases, Quick Gases, Rivonia Gases, and City Center Freight. Besides himself, no other board member of any of these companies is known. Even after his tragic death, none of his companies has released a statement saying anything about the death of the CEO. While there is absolutely nothing wrong with this, it is very UNUSUAL for multimillion-dollar companies to have no known bureaucracy and to deffer an opportunity to publicly mourn their CEO.
  2. Piko Trading Group and all its subsidiaries sell products and services that are wanted by many people in the countries where they are stationed. USUALLY, for such companies to grow fast they need to have top class systems for marketing and customer support. They say “Companies do not advertise because they are big. They are big because they advertise”. The world’s richest oil and gas tycoon is Mukesh Ambani. His companies do website, gloss, billboard, and other digital forms of marketing. Even Harare-based gas companies like Intergas, BOC Gas, Master Gas Energy, etc have these USUAL attributes of a modern business. However, Piko Trading Group and all its subsidiaries have no website, no officially designated public relations manager, and no network of depots where new and prospective clients can access the product. One wonders how they built and kept a clientele that made the millions. Again, while there is nothing wrong with this, it is very UNUSUAL.

Angitshongo ukuthi ngithini. Phela sekungaze kuthiwe sengithe mina ngingathangani.

S.A. Has Not Applied For An Extradition Order For Bushiri As Prophet Gives Conditions For His Return To S.A.

The South African

Fugitive Shepherd Bushiri

Malawi’s Information Minister says his government have not yet received any communication from Pretoria regarding an extradition request for for self-proclaimed Prophet, Shepherd Bushiri.

Bushiri confirmed on Facebook that he and his wife had fled to his home country of Malawi after fearing for their safety, adding that he was skeptical that he would be afforded a fair trial while laying out a series of demands to be met before he returns to South Africa.

Minister Gospel Kazako called on South Africa to make a formal request for Bushiri’s extradition.

“We don’t know how he got into Malawi. You must know he was living in South Africa. He started his journey from South Africa. You also have to be asking the South African authorities how he managed to come into Malawi. We do not know.”

Minister of Justice comments on possible Bushiri extradition
The Malawi Minister also told eNCA they had “no involvement” in assisting Bushiri to skip the country.

Nevertheless, a diplomatic storm is brewing between Pretoria and Lilongwe after Bushiri jumped bail which coincided with Malawi’s President Lazarus Chakwera visit to South Africa for talks with President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Kazako’s denial echoed that of his president who “categorically refuted allegations that he gave Prophet Bushiri a lift on his plane which departed South Africa” on 13 November 2020.

Bushiri’s slick escape from SA has left reportedly left Ramaphosa fuming and law enforcement agencies red-faced.

THE SLEEK SHEPHERD
Bushiri, meanwhile is adamant he’s not running away from his trial in South Africa.

The Hawks have confirmed that Bushiri failed to appear as required at a police station on Friday.

As part of the bail conditions for Bushiri and his wife, Mary, the couple have to appear at their nearest police station on Monday and Friday.

The couple, who fled to Malawi this week, are currently out on R200,000 bail.

They are fighting fraud, theft and money laundering charges in regards to an alleged investment scam which is said to have netted them R100m.

BUSHIRI’S DEMANDS
Bushiri announced his arrival in Malawi on Facebook on Saturday morning.

He says he’s in Malawi to seek intervention from his home country, less than a week after being granted bail which prohibits him and other co-accused from leaving the country.

Bushiri said he will only return to South Africa after five conditions are met.

His five demands to the South African government are:

The South African government should assure the couple of their safety and security if they return to the country.
Government should assure them that their bail would not be revoked, despite defying their bail conditions.
The police officers involved in investigating, arresting, and prosecuting the Bushiris should recuse themselves.
The South African government should ensure all complaints lodged and opened against the officers are investigated before proceeding with the case against them.
The South African government should appoint “independent and professional investigators, and prosecutors who should make independent decisions on the cases we are allegedly accused of.”
The smooth self-proclaimed prophet addressed his followers on Facebook.

He requested the government of Malawi to liaise with Pretoria to ensure that their demands are met.

“Once these five issues are met and I am assured of a fair, just and impartial trial, I am willing to avail myself before the South Africa justice system.”

Chakwera’s Charted Plane Was Thoroughly Searched For Bushiri Before It Left, So How Did He Escape The Country?

Chakwera in controversial visit to Ramaphosa

President Lazarus Chakwera has rejected assertions that he facilitated to smuggle Prophet Shepherd Bushiri on the President’s plane out of South Africa on Friday when the Malawi leader was returning home from a two-day visit of Pretoria.

Some social media outlets have been setting the narrative that Bushiri, leader of the Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) Church who has returned home in Malawi contravening his bail conditions was offered a ride on the President’s plane together with his wife, Mary.

The Malawi leader used a chartered flight to fly directly into Waterkloof Airforce Base, which is a national key-point reserved for South African Military and heads of state. Waterkloof airport does not conduct the same procedures and searches that are done at the normal airport, especially for the Presidents and their emissaries.

President Chakwera speaking through his spokesperson and Press Secretary Brian Banda said that is not true that he assisted Prophet Bushiri to jump bail in South Africa.

Said Banda: “The allegation that Prophet Shepherd Bushiri came on the same flight with the president is false.”

According to Banda, Prophet Bushiri’s situation was not even discussed during talks between the Malawi leader and South Africa President Cyril Rampahosa.

President Chakwera flew to Pretoria for a two-day working visit and met his South African counterpart on Friday. The two leaders engaged in bilateral talks along the lines of national development and cooperation between the two countries, including special permits for Malawian citizens working in South Africa.

It is reported that Bushiri arrived in Malawi earlier than President Chakwera’s home return.

His lawyer confirmed Bushiri arrived in Malawi while Chakwera was in Pretoria.

Chakwera’s departure in the rainbow nation was delayed several hours on Friday as the plane carrying him and his entrouge back to Malawi was subjected to search by South African security agents after Bushiri did not report to authorities as per his bail conditions, and there were whispers that the prophet might be smuggled out using the president’s jet. But he wasn’t on it.

South Africa police subjected Chakwera’s traveling party to searches multiple times at the Waterkloof Military Base in Pretoria and later ordered the entourage, except Chakwera and a few close aides, to go to OR Tambo Airport, from where they would board the President’s jet.

At OR Tambo the entourage checked in through the VVIP section under military and police escort all the way to the aircraft where a police officer literally checked every passport against the face of each passport holder.

Following delaying of president’s flight, State House issued a statement which said: “President Chakwera’s departure from South Africa has been delayed several hours due to clerical glitches in travel arrangements for Malawi State Officials who had travelled to South Africa ahead of the president’s arrival.

“As such, the president elected to wait until every Malawian in his delegation was assisted so that they could all be accounted for upon return. As the exercise is almost complete, His Excellency and his entourage will be departing anytime tonight.”

However, those in the diplomatic circles said the President does not have to wait for a forward planning team. A forward planning team is usually the last to leave the country, following the president.

When travelling between South Africa and Malawi, you do not need to do any “clerical” paperwork, except to take out your passport and get it stamped, and you pass. So the “clerical glitch” that State House statement referred to here could be far from the truth and that they were delayed for being wrongly suspected to assist Bushiri break bail conditions.

Meanwhile, South Africa’s Minister of Justice and Correctional Services Ronald Lamola has said they will seek an extradition process for Bushiri.

“Malawi is a signatory of the SADC protocol and other legal instruments on extraditions. We will not hesitate to invoke these provisions and instruments to assist law enforcement agencies to extradite fugitives of justice,” Lamola tweeted on Saturday.

But Bushiri said he and his wife “temporarily” left for Malawi due to safety concerns.

“There have been clear and evident attempts to have myself, my wife and my family killed and despite our several attempts to report to authorities, there has never been state protection,” Bushiri said.

The preacher claimed that he and his wife were being persecuted in South Africa.

He said they will only avail themselves once there’s an agreement to give him a fair, just and impartial trial.

The pair face charges of fraud, theft and money laundering and are currently out on bail.

Bushiri set five demands to ensure a fair, impartial, and just trial.

These include assurances of his safety while in the country and the assurance that their bail will not be revoked.

He also demanded that the investigating officers recuse themselves and that the complaints he lodged against them be investigated.

Bushiri further demanded that independent and “professional” investigators be appointed to “make independent decisions on the cases were are allegedly accused of.”

Questions are raised how he managed to return home when he had surrendered all his travel documents to South African authorities.

Govt Planning to Ambush Teachers Not Reporting For Duty

By A Correspondent| The government have warned that teachers who did not report for duty will not get bonuses for this year as it starts implementing a no-work no-pay principle.

Government will this week start paying civil servants’ salaries and bonuses. Public Service and Social Welfare Minister Professor Paul Mavima told Sunday News last night said if teachers do not report for duty, Government will not pay them bonuses as well as their salaries.

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education last week Friday submitted names of teachers who absconded work to the Public Service Commission.

“If teachers don’t work then they will not get bonus. Those who will report to work will get bonuses. Government will start paying bonuses this month while some will get their bonuses next month. We are going to make sure that all civil servants get bonuses before Christmas,” he said.

Ginimbi’s Fortunes Will Not Be Distributed Anytime Soon: Lawyers

By Jane Mlambo| The late socialite Genius “Ginimbi” Kadungure’s wealth will not be distributed soon as there are a lot of things that needs to be done, his lawyers Brighton Pabwe and Jonathan Samkange have revealed.

In an interview with state media on the sidelines of his burial programme, Ginimbi’s lawyer Pabwe said details concerning the late socialite’s estate would be revealed in due course.

“We are waiting for the entire legal team to make the necessary arrangements. Perhaps by next week we will be having more information,” said Mr Pabwe who is working with Samkange.

According to Pabwe, Ginimbi’s fortune will not be distributed “anytime soon.”

“It’s a long process. Interested parties will be called to a meeting and from there, we are going to map the way forward,” Pabwe said.

OBITUARY: Genius Kadungure: An open book that was not so open

By Phillip Mataranyika| On Sunday the 8th, I woke up to several missed calls from my good friend Zodwa Mkandhla. I got really worried, given (a) the number of the missed calls, (b) the time of them. With a little hesitation, I hit the redial button so I could find out what it was she was frantically calling me about. As soon as the line became alive, a broken hearted voice came from the other side, “Phil, Genius has been involved in an accident and he couldn’t make it. Will you ask the Nyaradzo guys to come pick his body up, we are on Borrowdale road”. A few minutes later the Nyaradzo removal crew would be on its way.

I felt sorry and helpless at the same time, for I knew I couldn’t do much to help a friend in need, as I was miles away from the scene. My heart bled for the rest of the Kadungure family on their monumental loss and all those whose life he touched.

I didn’t know Genius that well as I never had a one-on-one with him, only meeting him in the crowd. However, on the few occasions I met him, I found him to be engaging and respectful. It was through Zodwa that I got to meet him, besides reading about him in the press and watching him do his antics on the many social media platforms.

Zodwa and I have been friends for years. About the same time we started Nyaradzo, Zodwa was trying her hand at a travel agency which she named Traverze. Starting off as a small start up, Traverze has over the years grown to become one of the leading Travel Agency in the country. When the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce, (ZNCC) selected me as their Businessman of the year for 2010, I was pleasantly surprised to find that Zodwa was their choice for Businesswoman for the same year. We would dance the night away celebrating what we called a double achievement and rekindling our long lost friendship.

Back in the day, in an effort to grow our respective startups, Zodwa and I had taken to golf, playing a round in the same four-ball every week for a number of years. We stayed for prize giving after every round mingling and mixing with friends who we wished would become valued customers for our nascent entities. With time, Zodwa would find new hobbies, a love for fast and expensive cars and a taste for the exquisite. Genius must have had a lot to do with her transformation, I think, and my heart goes out to her and the rest of the Kadungure family.

The death of Ginimbi at a tender age of 36, together with three of his friends and colleagues is a huge loss, not only to Zodwa, the Kadungure family and his friends, also to the multitude of his followers and his country Zimbabwe, for Genius had become more than just the self made village boy from Domboshawa. His was a movement, a near monolithic mass of people whose mission is to live life according to their terms. When I think of him, I am reminded of the famous Apple creed, “Here’s to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes… the ones who see things differently — they’re not fond of rules… You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can’t do is ignore them because they change things… they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do”.

While I am not drawing parallels between Genius and the Apple crowd, I find it appropriate that Ginimbi, as he was affectionately called by his multitude of followers, could have been considered as a crazy one, a misfit, a rebel and a square plug in a round hole who as much as the Apple crowd did, saw things differently and was crazy enough to think he could change the world. According to his followers, he actually did.

After Cecil John Rhodes, another of the crazy ones who thought he could change the world and his British South Africa Company (BSAC) led the subjugation and occupation of Zimbabwe, a Southern African country for their kith and kin in 1890, it was just a matter of time before the indigenous populations would turn the table and begin to write their own stories in which their descendants would be at the centre of the storyline, fighting the colonial system tooth and nail. It was not until 1980, ninety years later, that their sweat and toil would pave way for Uhuru.

In between, two bloodletting revolts were waged, starting with the First Chimurenga when the Ndebele-Shona rebelled against BSAC’s administration between 1896 and 1897. The Second Chimurenga, which eventually broke the colonizer’s stranglehold, followed from July 1964 to December 1979.
After the attainment of majority rule in 1980, the black business landscape in Zimbabwe continued to be dominated by those with “old money”, who formed the country’s high society. With the exception of Roger Boka, Charles “Madzeka” Bvunzawabaya, and a few others, those with “old money” rarely flaunted their wealth, although their deep pockets had a way of speaking louder than words!
“Ginimbi”, as Genius was affectionately known, by his legion of fans, belonged to a group of “born frees” acclaimed for having made “new money”. Unlike many of those who made it in business before independence, Genius was an extrovert who was not ashamed of showing off his “new money” and would spend it as if there was no tomorrow.

Born on October 10, 1984, in a family of four, Genius was not ushered into this world with a silver spoon in his hand, let alone his mouth. Hailing from Domboshava where the colonialists established their first school for blacks to provide elementary literary skills and religious training in 1920, no one could imagine that this rural born, dark-skinned boy would assume legendary status given his poor upbringing.
Despite being a compulsive shopper known for hosting lavish, all-night parties where flashy socialites would consume large quantities of expensive whiskey brands – among them Dalmore 62 Single Highland Malt Scotch, Glenfiddich and The Macallan, Genius never abandoned his rural base for the exquisite accommodation amongst Harare’s nouveau riche in leafy suburbs such as Glen Lorne, Borrowdale or Umwinsidale.

It is in the dusty soils of Nyamande Village under Chief Chinhamora that his “Little Kingdom”, as he would call it, in the form of a two-storey mansion (seated on four acres of land) comprising six bedrooms, a fully-equipped gym and a 14-seater cinema, among other jaw-dropping features, nestles.

His love for top-of-the-range cars meant that Ginimbi had to construct a 3,6 kilometre tarred road from the Harare-Domboshava Road, leading straight to his stately home in order to avoid unnecessary visits to the garage or carwash.
While his critics (and they were many) questioned the logic behind such a significant investment – about 40 kilometres north of the capital city of Harare – Genius believed that every area deserves priceless assets and that the poor peripheral enclave of Domboshava was no exception.

Being home to the famous Domboshava caves and rock art, itself, evidence of the existence of the bushmen who lived there between 2000 to 5000 years ago, it is my fervent hope that this property finds resonance with the tourism recovery strategy which seeks to leverage on rural tourism so that it does not turn into a white elephant.

Whatever shall become of his legacy, Genius was no fool, who started his hustle at the age of 17, until he struck the proverbial gold through the buying and selling of gas for domestic and industrial purposes.

Pioneer Gas – owned by Genius’ Piko Holdings – eventually expanded into South Africa, Botswana and Angola.

Two years ago, Genius – who was the chairman of Piko Holdings and founder of Genius Foundation – made an investment, perhaps a testament to his fun loving nature, into Club Sankayi (aka Dreams Nightlife Club) in central Harare. This was reportedly his last stop before the horrific death in a car crash that sadly resulted in his passing.

Being never one to judge, I refuse to put a label on Genius as one who dabbled in anything for his success other than that he worked hard for every penny and dime he had and spent. To a lot of youths, including my son – Nigel and a host of his friends, – Ginimbi was an embodiment of an idea whose time had come. The rise of the successful African child who tosses the yoke of poverty and mediocrity without necessarily leaning on inheritance made him a sensation. He was the poster boy of their zeitgeist. A free spender who lived life according to his rules. When we judge him, we run the risk of missing the opportunity to understand the youth of today whose lives he may well have shaped beyond our understanding and imagination.

There is a huge gap, between them and us, a fault line if you like, a rift that can only be narrowed when we realise that Ginimbi may have died but what he stood for lives on in the hearts and minds of our youths, many of whom may well have been his followers. Their want for recognition, to be free spirits, to be crazy and be misfits is mostly misunderstood as they seek to change their world. When we understand them, we may be able to advise them to take it easy so they may not be consumed by their own success or lack thereof in near infancy.

Just recently, Ginimbi turned heads in Harare and Bulawayo after parading his latest acquisition, a $600,000 Lamborghini.

His rise from being a mere village boy in a poor community from Domboshawa, to becoming a leader of ardent followers who hung on to his every word and deed on social media, his purchase of new a car or apparel, speaks volumes about his tenacity. Just like Cecil John Rhodes, before him, was a young man who did not fear to break new ground, Genius charted new territory, seeing opportunity and grabbing it instantly.
Starting off as a middle trader of bare significance, his perseverance saw him winning tenders (including one floated by the Angolan embassy for liquefied gas), thus paving his way to success. It must have been mere coincidence that he named his company Pioneer Gases, which is what Cecil John Rhodes before him had done more than a hundred years ago, calling his rag-a-tag band of colonisers the Pioneer Column. Genius unlike Cecil John Rhodes may well have been a true pioneer, conquering new worlds and creating a breathtakingly new narrative that would change the way young people dare to imagine life. He proved to those of his generation that their struggle is partly to do with detoxifying their hearts and minds of the narratives that their forbearers had been fed by those who sought to dominate them. That Africans were too poor and undeserving to be wealthy: that Africans were too dark-skinned to be a bright spark on this planet.

Genius, a small deeply black tiny seed, fell onto the face of the earth somewhere in Domboshava and sprouted to become a giant and colossal tree in his community under which many would find shade.
High society likes to party, to entertain, to amuse, to inspire and to delight. And so too did Genius. Certainly who would fault him after earning what he could and having the right to spend it on opulence and comfort? And yet while many saw in the open what he did for himself and his friends in his time of celebration, only a few were acquainted with the most beautiful story Genius wrote in peace, quiet, and solitude. A story he probably never wanted known!

In his Domboshava community, the number of widows, orphans, disadvantaged and underprivileged that he directly assisted was astounding but unheralded. His commitment towards helping children who were born and bred in circumstances similar to his to attend school more comfortably than he did was a legendary tale told by nobody because he never wanted that written about him.
Why would a man so proud of his achievements hide a side to him when he was considered an exhibitionist – one may wonder? This brings me to a word one would probably never dare use along with the name Genius in the same line and yet it paradoxically fits so well. In spite of his loud exhibition, Genius was also, incredibly, a humble man.
He wanted people to say he was vain because he bought himself the fastest cars, built beauty and opulence and lived on the lap of luxury. He was not prepared to have them say he was vain because he paraded the poor while giving them handouts. To Genius, the poor needed to be assisted away from the glare of the public because benevolence is humble and discreet.

As his Piko Holdings supplied gas to commercial, industrial, public and retail clients, a substantial amount of his earnings went to assisting the less privileged. All pioneers, whether good or bad, have a mark about them that makes them larger than life. They also possess a unique trait in which they live short lives, leaving behind a legacy others cannot equal even were they to live tenfold a life stretch.
For example, Cecil John Rhodes, the coloniser breathed his last aged 49, Josiah Tongogara died at 41; Steve Biko at 30 and King Shaka of the Zulu Nation aged 41, all testament that one doesn’t need a lot of years to their name to change the world and blaze a unique trail that is forever engraved in the indelible pages of history.

And so it was with Genius.

Perhaps, his parents named him thus with prophetic foresight, perceiving that his fairy-tale story would be the thing that only social architects with genius in their blood could ever carve in the annals of history.

No one can ever forget the name Genius – good or bad. When history remembers him, it is my wish that historians include a chapter about a young man who dared to dream and achieve but one whose life was only open to a few despite his public profile. His night club was an epitome of that person. Aptly named ‘Dreams’ and the last place he left before embarking on his journey to another world, Genius’ dreams were perhaps achieved.

Like always, death is a tragic affair. Death herself has known no shame to take away promising lives at their zenith, yet with Genius, death can rob us of his life and shamefully so, but she can never rob us of his spirit and of his story which with his untimely death, will now be immortalised.

Go well Mhofu, “My guy”. May your dear soul rest in eternal peace!

18-Year Old Zimbabwean Girl Wins 2020 Voice UK

The 18-year-old wowed this year’s virtual audience, which voted for the winner during the socially distanced final.

She grew up in Zimbabwe until the age of seven then moved to the UK in 2009. Her passion for music is integral to her upbringing in a family of gospel singers.

The talented vocalist has even built her own recording studio in her back garden where she practices with her sister.

As the daughter of a pastor and reverend at a local church in Dudley, Blessing says faith plays a massive role in her life and her success so far.

As well as singing, the teenager has a passion for the sciences and dreams of becoming a doctor or surgeon if she doesn’t become a professional musician.

Judge Olly Murs’ act had been up against Jonny Brooks, Gevanni Hutton and Brooke Scullion as they all battled it out for a recording contract with Universal’s label UMOD.

Each of the finalists pre-recorded their performances last week, which were watched by a virtual audience and mentors Tom Jones, Will.i.am, Meghan Trainor and Olly Murs.

The finalists were also joined by their mentors on stage for a duet, with Jonny crooning Dobie Gray’s Drift Away with Sir Tom, Gevanni singsing Bob Marley’s No Woman No Cry with will.i.am and Blessing performing James Bay’s Hold Back The River with Olly.

But due to coronavirus travel restrictions, Meghan was unable to perform with her act.

Instead, Brooke sang a duet with Ella Eyre to Rag N’ Bone Man’s Giant.

It then came to the final two as Blessing was voted through alongside Jonny, but she managed to win over the audience.

Following her win, Olly said: “Blessing absolutely deserves to be crowned the winner of this year’s Voice UK! I’ve always believed in her from the start, and to think that I was the only Coach who turned for her is incredible.

“She’s got an incredible voice, infectious personality and has a bright future ahead of her. I can’t wait to see what she does next.”

Meanwhile, Blessing branded her win her “biggest achievement yet”.

She said: “I am so proud of how far I have come and I’m so intrigued to see what the future holds for me! I’m hoping my new single Angels can bless and inspire people to think about a certain someone in their life who has always been there for them.”

The Voice UK had filmed its blind audition stage and much of the show before the country went into lockdown earlier this year.

Filming was suspended in March, with ITV bosses confirming that the semi-final and final would air later in the year.

In a statement, they said at the time: “We have taken the difficult decision to postpone The Voice UK’s live Semi-Final and Final until later this year.

Man Loses Wife To Sangoma

IT was apparently a bad move for a Mberengwa man to accommodate a sangoma he had consulted to cleanse his wife from goblins that she claimed were sexually harassing her during the night.

This was after the man, Edgar Rwodzi, of Mawire Village, under Chief Bankwe reportedly lost his wife Tendai Matamba to the self-proclaimed sangoma Andrew Man’ombe.

Rwodzi decided to enlist the services of Man’ombe after his wife complained that when in bed she was always being poked by an evil creature with the shape of a man.

So nasty was the alleged abuse that she also claimed she was waking up wet and tired every day.

After being hired a lustful Man’ombe who also seemed to have developed an affection towards Rwodzi’s wife requested that he should be accommodated at the couple’s house for some days claiming Matamba required a thorough cleansing process.

The seemingly unsuspicious Rwodzi agreed to Man’ombe’s request since he was desperate to have his wife cleansed.

His marriage was also on the verge of collapse because of the wife’s incessant complaints that the only time she enjoyed sex was when she was making love with the goblin.

In his bid to sexually dribble past his client, a source who spoke to B-Metro said Man’ombe asked Rwodzi and his wife to sleep in separate bedrooms saying if they slept together that would disturb the cleansing process.

After separating the couple, it is reported that during the night, Man’ombe would sneak into Matamba’s bedroom to have sexual intercourse with her under the pretext of cleansing her.

He would allegedly tell her that the sexual intercourse was the only remedy for her problem.

“One night, a suspicious Rwodzi woke up after he heard screams coming from his wife’s bedroom and when he went to investigate, he was shocked when he discovered the two-Matamba and Man’ombe having sex.

“He brutally assaulted them and when he later confronted his wife, she confessed that Man’ombe would regularly sneak into her bedroom and requested her to remove her clothes and have sexual intercourse with her as part of the cleansing process,” said the source who requested anonymity.

The bashed Man’ombe, however, denied the accusations saying Matamba was the one who was inviting him to her bedroom saying her husband was sexually starving her.

He also claimed that Matamba was the one who suggested that he should be accommodated at the house under the pretext that the cleansing process needed regular attention.

Realising that Man’ombe had exposed her, Matamba reportedly packed her belongings and eloped with Man’ombe.

In a telephone interview Rwodzi confirmed the incident saying he was in the process of suing Man’ombe for betraying his trust and subsequently destroying his marriage.

“It was like a punch in the gut and I will sue him because splitting from my wife with whom I had four children with was unbearable. My relatives advised me to sue him because his (Man’ombe) actions destroyed my marriage. In fact, he knew that what he was doing would cause harm and damage my marriage,” said Rwodzi.

Matamba refused to comment and requested that all questions should be referred to her alleged lover, Man’ombe.

“It’s not my duty to respond to those useless allegations levelled against me. He should blame himself for not sleeping with his wife who later turned to me while complaining that their marriage had been turned to that of a sister and brother. Don’t talk to me again,” charged Man’ombe in a voice recording.-B-Metro

Mnangagwa Says: Economy’s Bouncing Back Despite Sanctions.

The Zimbabwean economy is bouncing back despite sanctions ZANU PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa has said.

Emmerson Mnangagwa

Government will not be deterred by economic sanctions, which have deprived the country of international financial support, but will, in fact, harness local resources for development, added Mnangagwa.

He continued:

“The 2019 National People’s Conference held in Goromonzi and the resolutions made there, urged us to strengthen the party and to remain focused and united towards growing as well as modernising, industrialising and developing every sector of our economy,” said Mnangagwa.

“Under the Second Republic, we are about action, action and action; production, production and production, not just talk, we are on the move. We are moving forward, success is now evident, even if some newspapers are desperate to paint a sad picture, we will continue to succeed.”

Successive budget surpluses recorded by Treasury have seen Government directing resources towards capital projects and social safety nets. Zanu PF and Government were action-oriented and geared to deliver growth development.

“In spite of the sanctions we are delivering visible results. The Transitional Stabilisation Programme has delivered.

“I commend the party for denouncing sanctions on 25 October. Africa and the progressive world stood with us in calling for the lifting of the sanctions,” said Mnangagwa.

He said the resolution by Sadc Heads of State and Government to declare October 25 as a day to show solidarity with Zimbabwe against economic sanctions was historic.

“For the first time in nearly 20 years, SADC stood together and made a resolution in Dar es Salaam and denounced sanctions in all SADC capitals. We thank them for the support. Our economy is now on the move. We have achieved a number of milestones.

“Successful implementation of the TSP, economic reforms, prudent fiscal discipline and good stewardship to public resources has enabled Government to direct resources towards national development and capital projects.”

The Foreign Currency Auction System introduced in June, said the President, has stabilised the exchange rate and prices of goods and services.

Furthermore law enforcement agents will be arresting individuals behind currency manipulation witnessed previously.

“We had a problem with inflation and what was happening in our economy until we discovered the source of the problem and we plugged those loopholes. Those who were behind the menace who have not yet been arrested will be arrested.

“We put restrictions on mobile money transfers and some of you were infuriated by that decision but that did not deter us because we knew that we were doing the right thing for our economy.”

He added: “When we unite and share ideas we can build this nation on our own.”

The President said the successful rehabilitation of over 100km of the Harare-Beitbridge Highway through local contractors was evidence that locals can develop the country.

Turning to the party’s internal politics, the President said the forthcoming District Co-ordinating Committee (DCC) elections would strengthen the party’s mobilisation machinery ahead of the 2023 harmonised elections.

He warned candidates to desist from name-dropping, adding that winners should be prepared to work hard for the party.

“As you are aware, we are implementing our decision to reintroduce DCCs hence the DCC elections will be held in all provinces. DCCs must facilitate mobilisation, organisation and co-ordination of our party members.”

The President said DCCs should never be used as a tool for power politics and power games. “Candidates who stand in these elections must be prepared to work as servant leaders of the people.

“Those who are not prepared to work must not come near DCCs; we want leaders from the people and NO to the imposition of candidates.

“Party leaders and candidates are reminded to be disciplined as they conduct the affairs of the party or stand for positions within the structures. No name-dropping and do not put the party into disrepute.

“The DCCs are not the first elections and will not be the last. The party is bigger than all of us. Infiltrators, deceivers, opportunists, saboteurs and the G40 cabal must never be allowed to succeed.”

In his remarks, Vice President Dr Constantino Chiwenga counselled unity among party cadres. Dr Chiwenga warned that party members engaging in factionalism were walking a “selfish, lonely and self-destructive path”.

“Let me categorically point out that we tend to gain more by being united than divided,” said the Vice President.

“There is no room for factionalism at any level in the party. We are a patriotic front that derives its strength from its unity.

“A party that cannot be undermined by being defined in the confines of individuals. I repeat, no factionalism in the party.

“Our loyalty is not to individuals, but to the bigger agenda which is larger than us; that of the party and the people of Zimbabwe.”

VP Chiwenga said name-dropping during DCC election campaigns was retrogressive and a source of divisions.

The event was attended by party chairperson and Defence Minister Oppah Muchinguri, national political commissar Victor Matemadanda and several senior Government and party officials.

Earlier in the day the President and his delegation toured Proton Bakery, the country’s third-largest bread manufacturer. -Sunday Mail

Mine Collapse: 6 Killed

the search continues

Six miners, four of them from one family, are feared dead after the mine they were working in collapsed after heavy rains pounded Matshetshe, Esigodini in Matabeleland South last Tuesday.

By yesterday, the miners had not been rescued or their bodies recovered after rescue efforts were stalled as the area is “still too dangerous to carry rescue operations”. The situation was also compounded by the fact that the mine owner initially refused to acknowledge ownership and the trapped workers.

Matabeleland South provincial police spokesperson Chief Inspector Philisani Ndebele said the matter was now of national importance given the number of suspected deaths and hence he could not speak on it. He referred questions to national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi who however, could not immediately comment on the issue.

Sunday News, however, visited the area yesterday where villagers and community members were still trying to find ways to start digging up the trapped miners. Nkosilathi Ndlovu (29), Christopher Dube (23), Ndumiso Dube (19) and Blessed Ncube (24), all members of one family, were trapped alongside Nduduzo Ntini (28) and another miner only identified as Mlilo.

Only pieces of red cloth marked the area where the miners had reportedly set up an encampment on a lucrative claim on the banks of Thekwane River, with villagers telling Sunday News that experts from How Mine, which offered help in the rescue effort, had deemed the whole area unsafe.

Villagers told Sunday News that rescue efforts had been delayed by the mine owner, Ms Sakhile Ndlovu, who had since Tuesday, been allegedly denying that she is the proprietor of the claim. Without a sketch of the underground layout of the mine, How Mine, which had offered its services for a rescue on the day of the disaster, had said it could not make good on its offer.

It was only on Friday after pressure from community members that the mine owner finally gave the greenlight to her mine manager, only identified as Madzibaba Ncube, to go ahead and give a sketch of the area. At the scene of the incident, there were no rescue efforts yesterday, as emotional family members wailed with villagers holding a prayer vigil at the site.

The devastating effects of the rain were evident, with heavy mine machinery tossed several feet from the mine. With emotions and fear running high in an area where gold wars are common, a villager who had been in contact with the only member to escape from what had been a seven-men group on Tuesday told Sunday News that the miners had been trapped after ignoring advice to leave the claim at the onset of Tuesday’s rains.

“The problem, the guy who escaped told us, was that the other six guys did not think the rain was heavy enough to threaten them. The area that they were mining at only had a slight drizzle so they thought it was fine but the water was rushing down from the other side of the river.

“The mine had three tiers. He was on the third level and his job was to warn those below him when there was an instruction from above. He told them that it was time to leave but because there are always joking as guys, they did not take him seriously. Even though he was on the third level, when he got out of the mine the water was already at knee length,” said the villager.

Others expressed outrage at the miner owner, Ms Ndlovu who they said had delayed rescue because if she admitted to owning the claim, law enforcement officers would descend on her. She had been uprooting equipment from the encampment, including tents, since Tuesday, incensed villagers claimed. When Sunday News visited her homestead, Ms Ndlovu declined to shed more light.

“We have been waiting for people just like you. A police officer, Mandla Ncube from Esigodini ZRP told me that you need to get clearance from him before you can talk to us,” she said.

Speaking on behalf of Ms Moddy Ndlovu, who has a son and three grandchildren trapped underground, Mr Phineas Tshabalala said the family had only got to hear of the issue on Thursday, while they were still in the dark about the course of action going forward. – Sunday News

“Teachers Can’t Breathe”

Tinashe Sambiri|The MDC Alliance Namibia has strongly denounced the harassment and intimidation of teachers by Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration.

The party challenged Mr Mnangagwa to address the teachers’ grievances as a matter urgency.

Read full statement below:

13 NOVEMBER 2020

MDC ALLIANCE NAMIBIA DISTRICT APPLAUDS THE UNITY AND ZEAL TO FIGHT FOR A LIVING WAGE IN THE TEACHERS’ UNIONS IN ZIMBABWE.

As the People’s Democratic Movement, we are absolutely perplexed by the clueless Zanupf regime’s daylight threats to the rest of the civil servants who are unable to report for duty because of underpayment.

Mdc Alliance Namibia demands that the ruthless government led by Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa must spare their threats and pay our diligent teachers a living wage replacing their unsalted peanuts.

Zimbabwe’s teachers are severely incapacitated and can only be capacitated when the value of their salaries is restored to a minimum of US$520. We want to encourage teachers’unions to continue fighting against slave wages, our teachers are highly qualified to deserve this pathetic maltreatment by these belly politicians who continue to loot with impunity.

Moreso, Artuz, Ptuz, Zimta and other teachers’ unions must demonstrate unity, commitment and dedication to liberate the teaching fraternity from the jaws of authoritarians.

We salute the courage and varlour from Zimta which used to be pro-Zanupf in the remote and recent fights against suicidal policies in the education sector.

It was quite exhilarating to hear revolutionary words from Zimta when it pronounced that , “the Zimta family learned last night from a Government communique, that the salary of the minutest paid teacher will be ZWL 18 237. If this is true ,then the salary of the D1 grade has moved from ZWL 15 594 to 18 237. This offer is US$295 behind our October 2018 figure of US$520, It has not however, capacitated teachers to pick up their torn and tattered bags tomorrow and go back to various stations”.

The vibrant teachers’unions in the names of the radical Amalgamated Rural Teachers’Union championed by President Obert Masaraure and the progressive Progressive Teachers’Union led by President Dr Takavafira Zhou echoed the same revolutionary trajectory.

They concurred that the 40% salary elevation still falls short of their expectations to liberate teachers who are wallowing in poverty.

The united teachers’unions resolved that teachers remain incapacitated, they emphasised the need to confront those who are eating on their behalf.

It is an insult in the eyes of social democrats to see a junior soldier harvesting more than the Deputy Provincial Education Director. This a mockery to the intelligentsia of the nation that is why as Mdc Alliance Namibia, we are ready to fight for a people’s government.

Moreover, teachers’ unions have vowed to soldier on with their incapacitation action since negotiations with the desperate regime have faltered.

Mdc Alliance Namibia resonates with Artuz leadership who postulated that the Government should be upholders of the right to education yet they appear unperturbed by the deep crisis in the mismanaged education sector.

It becomes imperative for Zimbabweans to clamour for a people’s government that respects the basic fundamental human rights.

The power hungry Zanupf cronies must respect the constitution of the country as provided on section 75 of the constitution which clearly instructs the government to uphold and protect the right to education. It is our moral and political obligation as social democrats to hold duty bearers accountable and we should not allow the education sector to collapse with our eyes wide-open.

Furthermore, the corrupt Zanupf government must desist from threatening and harassing innocent educators who are simply demanding a living wage. The perpetual infringement on the basic universal right to education for more than 4.6 million learners in Zimbabwe must be resisted with equal measure. Section 65 of the supreme law of the motherland provides the right to a fair remuneration against the satanic meagre salaries being offered by this greedy and insensitive government.

The Zanupf government has dismally failed to reasonably uplift the teachers’ salaries due to their clear insatiable appetite for personal aggrandisement.

In a nutshell, if these advocates of rhetoric politics remain obdurate, resisting to restore the genuine value of educators’ salaries to a minimum of US$520, our hungry teachers, abused learners and desperate parents must democratically fight for poverty liberation as well as the respect of their basic right to education.

This sadist Zanupf government does not care about the value of education because they thrive on looting, graft, bribery and smuggling. They subscribe to an informal economy where the uneducated enjoy at the expense of the intelligentsia. We really need a People’s Government to displace this corrupt dictatorship.

Ginimbi Had A Snake Which Was Always Hungry – State Media Piece.

Genius “Ginimbi” Kadungure

Melissa Mpofu, Sunday Mail
JUST like most Zimbabweans, I am also convinced that the late businessman, socialite Genius “Ginimbi” Kadungure had a “snake”. And this “snake” was not for the fainthearted because it was always hungry, making it difficult to keep.

But just like his name suggests, Genius was an exceptional intellectual, one of a kind so he braved it all and took great care of this “snake” which also returned the favour. This explains his riches which he enjoyed in Zimbabwe, making some hate him.

This snake was not your conventional reptile, neither was it the one used for rituals, but it was in the form of hunger for success and a constant urge to put in the work in order to have a good life.

Those who were close to the late as well as those who followed him on social media knew very well how he loved the finer things in life (champagne lifestyle) and the feeling of happiness. But in order to have these things and create his own happy world, which he successfully did, 36-year-old Genius who was born in Domboshava in a family of four, likely figured out that money was the main requirement.

How to make this money? Genius who always had a hustling spirit, apparently setup businesses, mainly focusing on energy (gas) in search for the green paper.

According to various reports online which were confirmed by his media and business manager Shaleen Manhire-Nullens this week, Genius started his business career by hustling in search of a decent livelihood at the age of 17. He then became a middleman securing gas for domestic users and through his friend, secured his first ever contract.

After signing the contract, Kadungure followed up on many gas users and that is when his fortunes turned.

According to iHarare, within a year in business, he was already driving and two years later, he had a Mercedes-Benz S Class. He went on to form Pioneer Gases, a company which supplied gas to commercial, industrial, public and retail sectors. Pioneer Gases had interests in Botswana, South Africa and Zimbabwe.

“He went on to buy Quick Gases in Botswana. With the success of his companies, he decided to add Rivonia Gases to his portfolio followed by another business initiative called City Centre Freight. All these companies fall under Piko Trading Group which he is a majority shareholder.

“Due to the increased growth and success of his businesses, he became one of the richest young entrepreneurs in Zimbabwe,” read part of the report.
From there, his empire kept growing till his demise last Sunday.

But, that’s not where it ends. Ginimbi wanted an extravagant life, something that saw him build a mansion in Domboshava and setup his own nightclub – Sankayi. The club, according to him, was not a business venture as this was not his line of business, but a project that was meant to satisfy his pleasure needs.

Looking at the way he led his life (champagne lifestyle, penchant for shopping and love for expensive cars), it is clear why he never tired when it came to chasing money as he was always hungry for more. Even though he already had loads of money, cars and mansion with girls throwing themselves at him, his brains, according to his housekeeper of 15 years, were always at work.

This was him, he always had his ears and eyes open for opportunities. “To tell the world the truth, Genius was a hard worker, but people never knew that. He was the kind who would rush for opportunities and grab them without hesitation. He never used juju, but his wealth was a result of his hard work,” the housekeeper said.

He was always open to new deals and no amount was too small. For example, in Victoria Falls when he attended the carnival two years ago, he realised there was no nightclub catering for a clientele like him which had a fine taste. So he came up with a makeshift event where he charged people to enter and sold expensive whiskeys and champagnes using himself as the main attraction. All I can say is the event sold out with the alcohol flying off the shelves.

Nullens, in an interview earlier in the week also described Genius as a hard-working person who was a big player in the gas business.

“I’ve worked for Genius for seven years. I worked with him a lot in the trucking business where he was big in gas and energy (diesel). He was actually in the top three in the gas business in Botswana which a lot of people weren’t aware of.

“He had about 26 trucks and was in the process of upgrading them,” Nullens said.

She said a lot of people were coming up with conspiracy theories about Genius’ wealth because they did not see him working. They did not have to physically see him working because he set up good structures for his more than seven companies which made life very simple as all he had to do was delegate people.

“The thing that made a lot of people think Genius wasn’t working was that he was excellent when it came to creating structures. His delegation was amazing as he knew how to delegate work and duties. So you’ll find out that all his companies had strong structures. It’s just unfortunate because he was the brains behind the structure,” Nullens said in an interview.

Due to these solid structures, Nullens said his businesses must be able to continue running even in Genius’ absence.

This issue of Genius being said to use snakes (rituals) to make money did not emerge after his death. It was always there and just escalated as people started saying his fatal accident last Sunday in which three more passengers burnt to death, was caused by a ritual gone wrong.

Interestingly, he was well aware of everything people said about him and he simply did not care.

“People don’t have to understand me. As long as business is doing well, I don’t owe anyone any explanation,” Genius told personality Acie Lumumba in an interview two years ago.

He went on to say: “People that attack Genius are the people that have no knowledge about how I accumulated my wealth. They just assume things, they don’t talk to me. If they talk to me, I should be able to give them tips even of how to make money. What pains me is I’m a citizen of Zimbabwe but I get attacked in my own country. I don’t have peace in my own country.

“You get attacked by your fellow brother because he feels I owe him an explanation. They’re not happy. They didn’t ask when I was living in the village struggling to wear shoes. It’s only now that they want to know the source of wealth, but when poverty was hitting me, nobody was there.”

The businessman said it was sickening how locals seem to endorse poverty by attacking those making it in different fields.

“So are we happy for poverty. If that’s so, it must be clear that we’re not happy for Zimbabweans that are doing well.

Many have left the country because of this hate. I’m happy and that’s why I’m not leaving Zimbabwe. This pains me.

“At the end of the day, I’m just a nobody. Those that love me love me.”

He went on to say there was nothing wrong with being rich and enjoying one’s money.

“To me, there’s nothing wrong with buying nice cars every year, that’s what excites me.”

Explaining how he made his money, Genius said he followed his passion and ventured into the energy business.

“I’m into energy which includes diesel and gas. Right now, we have a solution to electricity and trust me, if that works out, I’ll be one of the youngest billionaires in the world,” Genius said.

He also attributed his success to hard work.

“I don’t sleep. The moment I believe in the next person, they mess things up. They sleep on the job and don’t treat the business the same way I do. So it’s very simple, the more you commit yourself to your business, trust me, you’ll get there.”- Sunday Mail

Nyaradzo And Doves Fight Over Ginimbi’s Body

NewsDay

THE late socialite and businessman Genius “Ginimbi” Kadungure’s body was taken to Doves Funerals parlour yesterday despite Nyaradzo Life Assurance being the first to manage it, an episode which set tongues wagging amid claims that there was politics at play between the two funeral service providers.

Ginimbi (36) died in a horror car accident along Borrowdale road in Harare on Sunday when his Rolls Royce Wraith collided head-on with a Honda Fit while driving back to his Domboshava mansion in the company of Malawian Limumba Karim, fitness trainer and video vixen Mitchel “Mimi Moana” Amuli and Mozambican model and socialite Alichia Adams.

Karim, Amuli and Adams were trapped inside the car and burnt beyond recognition after the collision, while Ginimbi was pulled out just before the vehicle exploded into flames.

Speculative reports emerged that Ginimbi’s close associates, who are linked to the ruling Zanu PF party, had arm-twisted the deceased’s family to dump Nyaradzo for Doves.

“A lot of politics has been at play with regards to Ginimbi’s funeral. There seems to be some influence by his close associates. His family had initially engaged Nyaradzo, but his close associates, who are heavily involved in politics, were not happy about the family’s initial decision to engage Nyaradzo,” a source said.

“These are the same guys who had proposed the all-white party farewell, which was shot down by the family. They, however, managed to convince the family to move the body from Nyaradzo to Doves hoping that they would be able to get some favours they wanted from the authorities, who are said to behind this funeral service company.”

Without getting much into detail, Nyaradzo marketing officer Grace Chimedza yesterday said they just respected Ginimbi’s family decision to have his body moved to Doves.

A family source told NewsDay Weekender that Ginimbi’s family had approached Nyaradzo first, but they later discovered that he had a policy with Doves South Africa, and that was when they then collected the body from Nyaradzo and handed it over to Doves to handle everything.

Ginimbi will be buried today at his million-dollar mansion in a customised Versace coffin with a medusa print.

The coffin was imported from South Africa, courtesy of his associates under the banner Friends of Ginimbi.

Friends of Ginimbi’s spokesperson Ronald Muzambe confirmed to NewsDay Weekender that the coffin had come from South Africa, though he could not disclose all the costs involved.

“There was no coffin that was bought prior to Ginimbi’s death, there was no such thing. There are multiple stories doing the rounds with regards the issue of the coffin. Many people wanted to buy the coffin for Ginimbi. We then decided that no individual should buy the coffin and the coffin was brought through contributions,” he said.

“After putting the contributions together, some money was used to buy the coffin and some to cover funeral expenses. So it was a joint effort, not an individual job. I will clarify that the coffin was imported from South Africa, it is a custom-made Versace coffin. We thought of making him a Versace coffin because it was his favourite brand.”

Meanwhile, business came to a standstill in the city centre yesterday as hordes of people gathered to pay their last respects to Ginimbi before his body was ferried to his Domboshava home, a few kilometres outside Harare.

Man Impregnates Own Sister

A Nyanga man who was facing allegations of raping and impregnating his 14-year-old sister committed suicide last week on Sunday.

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa confirmed the death of the man, whose name has been withheld to protect the identity of the minor.

Inspector Kakohwa said the man was a Gohoto villager under Chief Katerere.

He was found hanging from a baobab tree in Nyapomboro Mountain.

Inspector Kakohwa said on November 5, the man’s family met and accused him of sexually abusing and impregnating his sister.

This was after the minor had told the family that her brother was responsible for her pregnancy. “He insisted that he was not the culprit, but the family remained adamant, threatening to take him to the police. The following day, the man told his son that he was going to Nyapomboro Mountain, but never returned,” said Inspector Kakohwa.

Other family members became suspicious and decided to form a search party, only to discover the man’s body hanging from a tree branch. Police at Ruwangwe Police Station attended the scene and retrieved the body.

Inspector Kakohwa advised the public to resolve family issues amicably and involve the police as soon as they suspect abuse of minors.

“We suspect no foul play, but we urge people to resolve issues amicably.

There is need to consult traditional or community leaders in family matters like these to avoid unnecessary loss of lives,” he said.-Manica Post

Cursed Woman’s Pregnancy Drags To 11months, Birthes A 5.1kg Baby

A kleptomaniac Mutare woman claimed that her pregnancy dragged to 11 months after a “curse” was cast on her by one of her victims.

32-year-old Rosemary Sibanda, who resides in Mutare’s Hobhouse, recently gave birth to a healthy baby girl weighing 5.1kg after she was released from remand prison.

She said:

When I was released from remand prison, my neighbours advised me to consult a prophet who lives nearby. The prophet told me that I had been cursed by one of my victims.

The prophet asked me to buy some spiritual water in Tsanzaguru, Rusape, and perform a small ritual with it. I followed the instructions and immediately went into labour.

When we reached Sakubva District Hospital, I gave birth in no time.

Sibanda blamed evils spirits for pushing her to break into people’s homes and stealing household items when she was heavily pregnant.

She was arrested and slapped with a 14-month jail term by a Mutare court after she was found guilty of breaking into Prudence Takawira’s house.

The magistrate however set aside 10 months of Sibanda’s sentence on condition of good behaviour.

The remaining four months were also set aside on condition that she pays US$150 to the complainant.

She was also fined $3 500 and failure to pay the fine would see her serving an effective 30 days in prison.

Father Of Slain Chivhu Minors Open Up

By A Correspondent- The father of four children who were killed by their mother in Chivhu on Tuesday, Lameck Brande, said it would have been better if his wife had killed him instead.

In an interview with The Herald in Chivhu on Thursday, Brande narrated how he was told of a fire at his Hillsview home and later saw the carnage that had been left behind by his wife Emelda Marazani.

He said:

When I heard that the house was in flames, I was at the shop and I quickly rushed home. I looked everywhere for the children but could not see any.

Together with my friends, we managed to break burglar bars of one of the windows and I rushed in. When I entered one of the rooms, I found two of my children covered in blankets and as I tried to pull them out, I discovered that their throats were slit. Vaiva vakachekwa muhuro nebanga zvakare vaiva vatofa.

I managed to pull them out. I proceeded to the other rooms and found my two elder daughters already burnt, they were tied with a rope.

When I heard that their mother had gone out running, I drove to the police station to make a report, thinking that after making a report I will then start searching for her.

I was surprised to see her already at the police station. She told me there that she had killed our children. She then said that she had drunk poison.

In no time, she collapsed and I poured her some water and she regained consciousness. I then used my car to rush her to the hospital.”

The couple’s children are Amanda (9), Yolander (5), Ayender (3) and Galender (1) and two of them were burnt beyond recognition.

Bande revealed that tension between them started when his wife saw a suspicious message on his phone, which also led her to destroy his mobile phones.

He said he thought the issue was over and did not suspect she would kill the children.

The four bodies are all in Chivhu General Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.-statemedia

“No Coffin Was Bought Prior To His Death”: Friends Of Ginimbi Speak

By A Correspondent- Friends of Ginimbi’s spokesperson Ronald Muzambe has dismissed reports suggesting that there was a coffin bought prior to the socialite and businessman’s death.

Without disclosing all the costs involved, Muzambe told NewsDay Weekender that the late socialite’s coffin came from South Africa.

He said:

There was no coffin that was bought prior to Ginimbi’s death, there was no such thing. There are multiple stories doing the rounds with regards the issue of the coffin. Many people wanted to buy the coffin for Ginimbi. We then decided that no individual should buy the coffin and the coffin was brought through contributions.

The Deputy Minister of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation and Zanu PF legislator for Hwedza South, Tino Machakaire, had on Monday pledged to buy a coffin for the late socialite.

Versace coffins cost between US$5 000 to $12 000 depending on the specifications which clients choose.

“Zimbabweans Stuck With Zanu Pf”

By Patrick Guramatunhu- Chiredzi South legislator Kalisto Gwanetsa last week called a meeting with all school heads in his constituency after it recorded poor results during the 2019 Grade 7, Ordinary Level and Advance Level Zimsec examinations” reported Newsday in February 2020.

“Most of the schools performed dismally with some posting a 0% pass rate while others got 2% or 3%.”

“I have called this meeting because I am not happy with last year’s results. I know things are difficult economically, but our results are pathetic. We have room to improve. We should be seen putting more effort to improve our pass rate,” said the Zanu PF MP Brigadier-General Kalisto Gwanetsa (Retired).

Well the schools were open for only three months before they closed for the nationwide corona virus lockdown.

Officially, schools reopened on 28 September 2020 but in practice students have not been attending classes because there are no teachers. Teachers are strike. They are demanding a living wage.

One thing is certain, there will NOT be much improvement in the school results in Chiredzi South constituency. And if the truth be told this is not a problem in Chiredzi South alone, it is everywhere.

2019 was not the first time the country had posted pathetic school results, this has been going on for decades now. And, worst of all, there is absolutely no hope of education standard ever improving without first reviving the country’s comatose economy.

As long as the economy remains in the doldrums there will be no money to pay the teachers a living wage and money to pay for all the other things needed to deliver quality education.

Zimbabwe’s economy has been in decline for the last 40 years, ever since the country’s independence in 1980. Four decades of gross mismanagement and rampant corruption have left the country’s once robust and promising economy in ruins.

Zanu PF, the party that has remained in office throughout the 40 years, has grudging acknowledged the economic meltdown but refused to accept it is responsible for it.

Worst of all, the party insist it has solutions to revive the economy, insisting the country is well on its way to become an “upper middle income nation by 2030, vision 2030!” The reality is Zanu PF has no clue what to do to revive the economic and the failure to provide such basic services as education and health proves the country is sinking deeper and deeper into the abyss.

The tragedy is the people are stuck with this corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF regime for all these last 40 years. The regime has rigged the elections to secure it stay in power.

“Failure to find a lasting solution for our schools could have long-term consequences not only for education, but also for our development trajectory of the nation. Solutions must be holistic, comprehensive and inclusive. We can resolve this social contract breakdown,” commented Kenneth Mtata, the Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC) secretary-general.

The only holistic, comprehensive, inclusive and lasting solution to Zimbabwe’s economic and political crisis, the crisis in education is but one manifestation of the national crisis, is for the country to end the curse of rigged elections and bad governance by holding free, fair and credible elections.

Zimbabweans have known that the root cause of the country’s economic and political problems is bad governance. Even now with the nation’s very survival on the line, some people will not look Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF cronies in the eye and tell them “Zimbabwe must have a new system of government, one where everyone has a meaningful vote!”

“Find a holistic and lasting solution to the national crisis!” Yeah right!  You know what that solution is but cannot speak it! Zanu PF would have never dragged us into this hell-on-earth and kept us stuck there all these last 40 years without our silent consent and passive cooperation.

Decades of poor examination results has condemned hundreds of thousands of Zimbabweans to a life time of ignorance and uselessness. This cruel and criminal waste of human lives must stopped.

A nation that fails to educate its citizen is doomed.

Real Issues In Zim A Crisis Of Zanu Pf Leadership Said Biti- “This Is Only Half Of The Story”

By Patrick Guramatunhu- “At the end of the day the real issue in Zim is a crisis of governance and leadership.

“The nation carries the burden of illegitimacy, of corrupt incompetent clueless and incompetent leadership. Collectively we change gears and put an end to this .It’s time for change,” argued Hon Biti.

All this is true but it is wilfully incomplete, Biti always leaves out the juicy and tragic part. He loves talking about how much the nation is suffering under Zanu PF but does not say how the regime would be history if he and his fellow MDC leaders had implemented the democratic reforms and stopped Zanu PF rigging the elections.

MDC had the golden opportunity to implement the reforms during the 2008 GNU. They failed to get even one reform implemented because they sold-out, they were busy enjoying the trappings of high office and forgot about the reforms.

“The nation carries the burden of illegitimacy,” Biti tells us but would not say that it was his and MDC’s continued participation in flawed and illegal elections, they are after the few gravy train seats bait, that has giving credibility to the flawed elections and, by extension, legitimacy to the vote rigging Zanu PF. What is more, Biti and company knew this all along as David Coltart has admitted in his book.

In his Book, The Struggle Continues 50 years of Tyranny in Zimbabwe, David Coltart, former MDC – Ncube Senator and Minister of Education in the 2008 GNU, gave details of how Zanu PF was flouting the electoral rules in the upcoming 2013 elections. It was clear the elections would not be free, fair and credible and yet MDC leaders participated in the elections regardless.

“The worst aspect for me about the failure to agree a coalition was that both MDCs couldn’t now do the obvious – withdraw from the elections,” wrote Senator Coltart.

“The electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility.”

Tendai Biti and company went on to participate in the 2018 elections even thou it was clear Zanu PF would rig these elections too and even after a number of the MDC factions had formed a coalition, MDC Alliance. Biti and company found the Zanu PF bait irresistible!

Zanu PF has ignored calls to implement the democratic reforms and end this curse of rigged elections and bad governance and so the coming 2023 elections will, once again, be flawed and illegal. However, Tendai Biti and the usual suspects will participate giving the elections credibility and the result some modicum of legitimacy!

“The nation carries the burden of (Zanu PF) illegitimacy!” that is only the half of it! The other half, the unspoken and yet an even greater burden, is MDC sell-outs. If MDC leaders had not sold-out, the Zanu PF dictatorship would have been dismantled by now!

Even since the 2008 GNU, MDC leaders have been hunting with the Zanu PF hounds and, for PR purposes, continued to run with the povo hare. Sadly, the Zimbabwe public has yet to realise what is going on and until they do, the country will continue on its relentless 40 year march into the abyss!

“At the end of the day the real issue in Zim is a crisis of (Zanu PF) governance and leadership!” No, it is a crisis of Zanu PF and MDC governance and leadership!
