Zambian Vice President Down With Coronavirus

Zambia’s 79-year-old vice president Inonge Mutukwa tested positive for coronavirus

Zambia’s vice president Inonge Mutukwa on Wednesday tested positive for the coronavirus, the presidency said in a statement, which also said her condition was stable and she was in self-isolation at home.

“The vice president has some mild symptoms that are being managed appropriately … She is in high spirits and working virtually …” the statement said.

This comes at a time when Zambia’s confirmed COVID-19 cases on Wednesday surpassed the 10,000 mark, signifying the continued surge in cases

According to figures released by the health ministry, the country recorded 237 new cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the cumulative cases to 10,218.

In May, Zambia announced that the health minister Chitalu Chilufya had tested positive for the virus, but he has since recovered.

Two months later, 15 Zambian lawmakers tested positive for Covid-19.

The Church Is Not There To Support ZANU PF’s Looting And Genocide Programs.

Jealousy Mawarire

Political critic Jealousy Mawarire has attacked President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s declaration that the church has no moral ground to be involved in politics.

Mawarire instead says the Church has the moral obligation to stand for the vulnerable and it is within their right to do so.

In a post on Twitter, Mawarire said it is unfortunate that the “junta” government believes that “the Church is there to support its programs, massaging egos of the looting and genocidal cabal”.

Wrote Mawarire:

The Junta-PF government response to the Catholic Bishops Pastoral letter is quite interesting in as much as it is intriguing because it shows a warped understanding of the role of the Church and its leadership.

While the rogue regime believes the Church is there to support its programs, massaging egos of the looting and genocidal cabal, the Church is there to protect the poor, the vulnerable and the downtrodden from a diabolical political leadership. There shouldn’t be a disconnect between the Church and politics since Jesus, the head of the Church is King of Kings.

Jesus, whom the Bishops represent, is the overall leader, He is above presidents and is the ultimate politician (Rev 1:5). ED is actually a VP. The church has a right to dabble in politics, Jesus did not die for the world so that genocidal leaders can continue abusing people.

Biblical prophets, like Amos, chided leaders and announced their removal from power. They attacked the leadership of the day for oppressing the poor and for corruption (Amos 3:10-11).

The coup government in Zimbabwe has no moral authority to tell the Church not to intervene when it tramples upon the rights of citizens, allegedly murdering, abducting and raping citizens. The Church has a moral obligation to stand for the vulnerable and it’s within their right to do so.

Zimbabweans should refuse to be intimidated by a rogue regime just because the regime is irritated by the truth. It’s not the role of the Church to prop-up dictatorship. The church is there to rebuke, publicly, those sinning (1Tim 5:20) even if the sinners are institutionalised in government.

Six Zimbabweans Arrested For Smuggling Cigarettes Worth Millions Of Rands Into South Africa.

Remington Gold cigarettes favourite for smuggling into South Africa.

SOUTH African police (SAPS) have arrested six men believed to be Zimbabweans after they intercepted haulage trucks that were carrying cigarettes worth millions of rands that had been smuggled across the border from this country.

The suspects were arrested after a joint intelligence operation by the SAPS and the South African Revenue Service (SARS) in Eldorado Park, Johannesburg.

The cigarettes included brands such as Remington Gold, Chelsea, Royal Express and Premium.

In a statement SAPS said: “Six suspects were arrested after the integrated team discovered the suspects in the process of loading boxes of illicit cigarettes onto a number of trucks, which were allegedly going to be dispatched to a destination yet to be confirmed.”

“Preliminary reports suggest that the crime scene at an industrial site in Eldorado Park, Johannesburg, was being used as a distribution point where alleged traders and in this case, the six arrested suspects, would collect the illicit cargo for further distribution and sales.”

The possibility of more arrests have not be ruled out and the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigations (Hawks) will take over the case for further investigation.

Gauteng police commissioner, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela welcomed the arrests and urged the investigators to get to the bottom of this case and to deal decisively with organised crime.

Shock As Zimbabwe Records 16 Murder Cases In One Week.

Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi

The Zimbabwe Republic Police said on Thursday at least 16 people were murdered throughout the country between August 13 and August 19 this year.

In a statement, ZRP national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the rise in the number of murder cases was evidence that people no longer valued sacredness of human life.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police notes with concern the upsurge in murder cases during the period extending from 13 to 19 August 2020 where sixteen cases were recorded countrywide. It is disturbing that some people no longer value the sanctity of human life.

“Two cases of patricide were recorded in Tsholotsho and Mutare where two fathers were murdered by their own sons over petty disputes. In one of the cases, the accused person scolded mourners at a funeral and when his father tried to admonish him, he assaulted him with a three legged fire stand, leading to his death,” he said.

Ass Comm Nyathi said during the current national lockdown period, unnecessary gatherings should be shunned as some of the murders were occurring during illegal beer drinking sprees.

“Infidelity has also contributed to the number of recorded cases for the period under review. In Dema, a 22 year old female adult was murdered by her boyfriend on 16 August 2020.

“In Rimuka, Kadoma, another 19 year old female was fatally stabbed with a knife for permitting accused person’s girlfriend to meet with another man at her residence,” he said.

He urged the public to desist from taking matters of the law into their own hands and seek counselling to resolve disputes.

“Members of the public are encouraged to find amicable ways of resolving their differences whenever they fail to find common ground,” he said.

“Traditional leaders, the church, close family members and counselling experts should assist parties in finding common ground whenever there is a dispute. The Police is also available to assist families in resolving differences.”

APOLOGIES TO AL JAZEERA NEWS AGENCY & FEMI OKE

I hope this letter finds you well.

On the 18 of August 2020, I was part of the panel of discussants on Al Jazeera about our beautiful Nation, Zimbabwe involving myself and two MDC alliance representatives.

Following the conclusion of the heated discussion which featured falsehoods, punctuated by biased video interludes which appeared to be aimed at sustaining a false narrative that there is a crisis of human rights in Zimbabwe, lost my tamper in which I ended up using uncouth language.

Although that was never meant for the interview as I felt the interview had ended, I strongly feel I owe Aljazeera, the world, Zimbabweans and in particular the Anchor Femi Oke an unreserved apology. I further apologise to the Leadership of the Party who certainly were embarrassed by those words.

Following spirited attempts by various Global Media to drive a false agenda against Zimbabwe, Government, Leadership and our People in general, I must express my gratitude and that of the Party to Al Jazeera for their decision to reach to us to get a candid understanding of the reality of what is obtaining in Zimbabwe, contrary to social media falsehoods mirrored by recycled videos of the past while some of the videos are imported from other jurisdictions.

There is no crisis in Zimbabwe but there is a leadership crisis in opposition groups, and that does not translate into a national crisis.

I look forward to keep engaging you in future as partners in a friendlier, balanced and sober manner.

Bloemfontein Stun Mighty Kaizer Chiefs

Stadium

Sera Motebang was the hero as Bloemfontein Celtic beat log leaders Kaizer Chiefs 3-1 in the ABSA Premiership on Wednesday.

Chiefs were looking to capitalise on second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns’ loss to Cape Town City on Monday and open a nine point gap at the top of the table.

They put pressure on Siwelele towards the half-hour mark and it finally paid off when Eric Mathoho broke the deadlock in the 38th minute, the defender’s header putting Ernst Middendorp’s men ahead.

Celtic should have levelled matters two minutes before the break but Sepana Letsoalo’s shot went agonisingly wide.

They eventually restored parity on the stroke of half time through Sera.

Celtic took the lead just after the interval when Sera got his brace, his 5th goal of the season to put his side 2-1 up.

Letsoalo put the final nail on the Chiefs coffin when he dribbled past two defenders to slot home Celtic’s third.

Kaizer Chiefs tried to mount a come back but their efforts were in vain as they failed to extend their lead at the summit of the table.-Soccer 24

We Struggled To Overcome Lyon -Bayern Munich

Stadium

Bayern Munich coach Hansi Flick admitted his team was not entirely convincing in the Wednesday’s 3-0 victory in the Champions League semifinal against Lyon.

Speaking after the game, Flick said his side needed a bit of luck and the quality of Serge Gnabry to survive early pressure from the French team who could have opened the scoring first but hit the post.

“It was an intense game, and we knew it would be like that,” Flick told a news conference. “Lyon had a great performance, pressured us, and we survived it with a bit of luck especially at the start.

“Serge’s individual performance settled our nerves. The 1-0 was outstanding. His finish and his run, just outstanding.

“His development in the past few years has been amazing, and you can see that he is very close to a world-class player.”

Gnabry scored twice before Robert Lewandowski added a late third goal. The winger’s goals came in the 18th and 33rd minutes to put the Germans ahead before the break.

Bayern will now face Paris St Germain in the final on Sunday.-Soccer 24

Mawarire Justifies Church’s Intervention In Zimbabwean Crisis

By A Correspondent- National Spokesperson for the National Patriotic Front (NPF), Jealousy Mawarire says the Church has a moral obligation to stand for the vulnerable and it is within their right to do so.

He made the remarks following a Pastoral Letter issued by the Zimbabwe Catholic Bishops Conference on 14 August which called on the government to end human rights abuses.

The Pastoral Letter was not well-received by the government, with Information Minister Monica Mutsvangwa lashing out at the Bishops, calling them “genocidal” and a “self-righteous Ndebele minority”.

In a post on Twitter, Mawarire said it is unfortunate that the “junta” government believes that “the Church is there to support its programs, massaging egos of the looting and genocidal cabal”.

Woes Mount For Suspended ZESA Executive Sydney Gata

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission is investigating suspended ZESA executive Sydney Gata over possible abuse of office and corruption.

A charge sheet has since been completed while suspended ZESA board members were invited for interviews at the ZACC offices where they presented a collective statement.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa suspendeded ZESA Holdings Executive chair Sydney Gata and the entire ZESA board which is mired in corruption allegations.

The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) was also been given four weeks to conclude investigations into corruption allegations against the chairman and the board.

Gata is in the eye of the storm for allegedly allocating for his personal use, five company vehicles, scuttling the disciplinary hearing of a top executive, spending $10 million on Christmas parties, sending four consultants to South Africa, and setting up a trust to mine gold.

In a statement, the Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Misheck Sibanda said the suspensions were with immediate effect.

“His Excellency, President Emmerson Mnangagwa has suspended the Executive Chairman of the ZESA Holdings, Dr Sydney Gata and the entire ZESA Board Members with immediate effect,” Sibanda said.

The utility’s executive chair who was suspended by the Board members last week scoffed at the board’s decision to suspend him and refused to vacate office, insisting he could not be investigated by his juniors.

He adamantly insisted only President Mnangagwa could suspend him.

Mnangagwa further directed the ZACC chairperson Justice Matanda-Moyo to undertake thorough investigation into the allegations levelled against Gata by Energy and Power Development Minister Fortune Chasi.

Said Sibanda, “President Emmerson Mnangagwa has also directed the Chairperson of the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) Justice Loice Matanda-Moyo to immediately undertake thorough investigations into, the allegations levelled against Executive Chairman by Honorable Minister Energy and Power development Fortune Chasi, and any other underlying corrupt activities bedevilling Zesa Board and the electricity sector as a whole,” read the statement.

Mnangagwa gave ZACC just four weeks to complete all investigations and present the findings.

“President Mnangagwa expects ZACC to complete its investigations as well as tabling its report on the findings within four weeks,” added Sibanda.

Logarusic Yet To Prove Mettle. ..

Logarusic

It has been over seven months since nomadic Croatian tactician Zdravko Logarušić was named Warriors coach by the Felton Kamambo-led ZIFA board.

Owing the Covid-19 pandemic, the Croat has not overseen a single game on the Warriors dugout, with the few training sessions he had with the local-based players in preparation for the would-be postponed CHAN finals the closest anyone got to have a glimpse of what he is capable of.

Fans, even the Warriors stars themselves, have been kept guessing on how Logarušić believes football should be played, with everybody cluesless as to when his tenure will begin.

That all changed yesterday however, as the dates for the Warriors’ Afcon qualifiers against Algeria were announced.

Logarušić will lead the Warriors on his first mission  to Algeria for a potentially explosive Group H clash with the defending champions during the November international break which starts on the 9th.

They will host the Desert Foxes in the return encounter before the 17th of November, with uncertainty still hovering over the venue of the clash as CAF is still to lift the ban on all local stadiums.

Loga, as many are now preferring to call the Croat due to the difficulties in pronouncing his first name, faces a mammoth task to begin his tenure on a high, as what stands in his way is a star-sudden Algeria, in their own backyard-Soccer 24

Mali Slapped With Sanctions Over Military Coup

By A Correspondent- The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), which is convening over the crisis in Mali, has imposed sanctions on the country following a military coup earlier this week.

ECOWAS has suspended Mali’s membership, shut borders and halted financial flows in response to Tuesday’s overthrow of President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita.

Meanwhile, Mali’s opposition coalition on Thursday dismissed efforts by regional powers to block a coup-driven change of government, saying it would work with the military junta to restore stability to the country.

The M5-RFP coalition of anti-Keita opposition groups said it was working alongside the mutineers, and condemned the ECOWAS sanctions as an over-reaction.

Reports indicate that there was calm in the capital Bamako for the second straight day as people appeared to heed earlier calls from junta spokesman Colonel Ismael Wague to return to work and go about their daily lives.-Reuters

‘Apostle’ Chiwenga: I Made A Decision To Go for the Head On Collision, I Felt In My Spirit The Lord Wanted Me to Do That, And That Is What I Did | UPDATED

“…So I made a decision to go for the head on collision, I felt in my spirit that the Lord wanted me to do that, and that is what I did.”

By A Correspondent | The Harare preacher Talent Chiwenga has spoken for the first time concerning the accident that happened in Norton in which he collided with the MDC Alliance Spokesman (2018) Jacob Mafume’s two family members who were traveling to the latter’s house to sleep for the night in the 13th July 2020, for a relative’s funeral.

Writing in his letter, Chiwenga said the accident which happened 3km before the Norton tollgate (while driving from Harare), was an assassination plot against him. He said this is the reason why he continued to drive straight into the oncoming vehicle.

His full unedited letter comes at a time when the Mafume family has continued to complain that their two departed loved ones were victims of a road marking error which has seen numerous other accidents happening at the scene, as traffic coming from the Bulawayo side is made to take into the wrong lane after the tollgate (no markings or directions).

The preacher says the driver he collided with had no reason to enter his lane.

In proving this, Chiwenga uses a sketchdiagram of the tollgate that suggests that the island separating the lanes begins from inside the tollgate structure. But hovering footage shows there are no markings and the Bulawayo traffic is clearly diverted into the Harare lane.

Talent Chiwenga wrote addressing the Church members calling them his “children.”

I write to you my children, to communicate with you because I love you and I miss you. It has been long since you heard from me or saw my face.
Well you all know how we got involved in a head-on collision with a white mercedes benz sedan car that was wrongly driving on a one way traffic road at a very high speed towards us without switching on the headlights well, it only switched its headlights on when it was less than ten metres away from our car, after 1900 hours Central African Time.

This was not an ordinary or natural accident, it was an assassination plan by enemies of the gospel who hold high offices in government. We had informed you a week before this incident of this plan but they still went ahead to do it. The plan was to cause me to panic and try to avoid a head on collision and by so doing i would lose control of my vehicle and we were all going to die; just like they did in the June12, 2019 accident. They would blame me and say I do not know how to drive safely, or I was sleeping while driving, or i was overspeeding, or i was drunk. Nobody would corroborate our story that there was an oncoming car on a one way road in the highway. And we would look stupid, untruthful and falsely accusing them of foul play. So I made a decision to go for the head on collision, I felt in my spirit that the Lord wanted me to do that, and that is what i did.

We thank God that none lost their lives in our car, there were no fatalities, only two people were hurt, myself and one faithful helper in the protocol department.

I sustained serious injuries, and i have gone through numerous procedures and operations, but i am alive, and i am hopeful that the Lord will heal me and i will be able to walk again, stand again and share the good word of the Lord with you.
2 Corinthians 4:8-12
18]We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; [9]Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; [10]Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body. [11]For we which live are alway delivered unto death for Jesus’ sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh. [12]So then death worketh in us, but life in you.”
As i write this message to you right now (0300 hours CAT), i am in much pain, the pain that i have never felt in my life, the pain that sometimes rages on even after receiving the highest dozes of the strongest painkillers available in the hospital. But this is just pain in my body, my spirit is fine, it is not sick, i find time to listen to the word and i can assure you it is well with my spirit.
Soon after the accident i saw the demages i had sustained, and i thought that through the excessive bleeding i experianced I was going to die on my way to the hospital, and i prayed what i thought was my last prayer to God; i said ‘ Lord you know how with sincerity and with a clear conscience i have served you, it was an honor to serve the King of kings and the Lord of Lords, you do not owe me anything, if my time to go has come, i am ready, i just want to thank you for the rare opportunity you gave me to be a steward of such a great gospel …’
I meant every word in this prayer, and after i said it i was so much at peace with everything. It is a great miracle that i am still alive today considering the serious injuries sustained and a loss of more than 2 and half litres of blood through

I know the Lord kept me alive for you, for your benefit, so that you can still receive a service from the prisoner of God. I know you are praying for me and that you arealso very worried, you want to hear my voice, and be able to see me and ascertain that i am truly alive. That will happen soon, we have to deal with life threatening situations first and then i will be able to see you again, remember i am yours, i belong to you and once i have recovered and the security situation has improved, you will see me.
I want to thank you all for your thoughts, your prayers and your love towards me, i love you too with all my heart, you are my true family and you know how useless i feel when i am not on the pulpit. But it is a necessary setback, i have to get better first and if the doctors declare me fit to function normally, we will all be happy together again.
Lastly i want to remind you how great the Love of our God is towards us, he tells us everything that will befall us beforehand, there are no surprises and that means he will become there to make sure we are not consumed by those afflictions laid before our paths by the devil.
As for the men of the city of Harare, the men of Zimbabwe who are seeking to kill me, because they do not like the word of God that i have spoken against them because of their abominable lives, this is God’s message to them:
Jeremiah 26:1-16
“Min the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah came this word from the LORD, saying, [2]Thus saith the LORD; Stand in the court of the LORD’S house, and speak unto all the cities of Judah, which come to worship in the LORD’S house, all the words that I command thee to speak unto them; diminish not a word: [3]If so be they will hearken, and turn every man from his evil way, that I may repent me of the evil, which I purpose to do unto them because of the evil of their doings. [4]And thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the LORD; If ye will not hearken to me, to walk in my law, which I have set before you, [5]To hearken to the words of my servants the prophets, whom I sent unto you, both rising up early, and sending them, but ye have not hearkened; [6]Then will I make this house like Shiloh, and will make this city a curse to all the nations of the earth. [7]So the priests and the prophets and all the people heard Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of the LORD. [8]Now it came to pass, when Jeremiah had made an end of speaking all that the LORD had commanded him to speak unto all the people, that the priests and the prophets and all the people took him, saying, Thou shalt surely die. [9]Why hast thou prophesied in the name of the LORD, saying, This house shall be like Shiloh, and this city shall be desolate without an inhabitant? And all the people were gathered against Jeremiah in the house of the LORD. [10]When the princes of Judah heard these things, then they came up from the king’s house unto the house of the LORD, and sat down in the entry of the new gate of the LORD’S house. [11]Then spake the priests and the prophets unto the princes and to all the people, saying, This man is worthy to die; for he hath prophesied against this city, as ye have heard with your ears. [12]Then spa he Jeremiah unto all the princes and to all the people, saying, The LORD sent me to prophesy against this house and against this city all the words that ye have heard. [13]Therefore now amend your ways and your doings, and obey the voice of the LORD your God; and the LORD will repent him of the evil that he hath pronounced against you. [14]As for me, behold, I am in your hand: do with me as seemeth good and meet unto you. [15]But know ye for certain, that if ye put me to death, ye shall surely bring innocent blood upon yourselves, and upon this city, and upon the inhabitants thereof: for of a truth the LORD hath sent me unto you to speak all these words in your ears. [16]Then said the princes and all the people unto the priests and to the prophets; This man is not worthy to die: for he hath spoken to us in the name of the LORD our God.”
Are we going to find men in our country who are going to oppose the murderers’ voices, and say this man is not worthy to die, for he has spoken in the name of the Lord God? God knows better.
But the people of Zimbabwe should know that they are bringing innocent blood of the servant of God upon not only the murderers, but the whole country; and when the punishment comes upon a land it will affect everyone, including those who say we are the passive and indifferent one. It is a heinous sin to kill the prophet of God!!
My exhortation to you believers is that stand together as a family wherever you are, at the local assembly, or region, encourage one another in the faith, minister to each other’s needs, and above all dedicate a significant portion of your day’s time to hearing the word of God, we have endless video sermons on Facebook Page: Apostle TF Chiwenga Ministries, many downloadable audio sermons on Soundcloud/Apostle TF Chiwenga, and and also on YouTube/Jesus Revelation Ministries.
Let us respect the leaders we have in our assemblies, sections and regions, there needs to be order in the house of God at all times. Do not allow yourself to be used by the devil as an agent of disunity, disharmony and bickerings in the house of God.

We thank God that we do not have many cases of believers who have tested positive to the COVID 19 pandemic and most of them who have are stable and recovering well, most of them have fully recovered and are back to their normal lives, glory to Jesus for that.

I have written this letter to streangthen you, continue praying for me and i know the Lord hears all our prayers.

May the Lord Jesus Christ keep you pure, holy, undefiled until his last day. Grace be upon you all amen.

UEFA Champions League Final: It’s Bayern vs PSG!

UEFA

Bayern Munich’s relentless march through this season’s Champions League continued as they brushed aside Lyon to book an 11th appearance in the final of the competition and a showdown with Paris St-Germain.

The German champions have barely had a glove laid on them in Europe this season, with this their 10th straight Champions League win – equalling the record for winning streaks in the competition set by Real Madrid in 2015 and Bayern themselves in 2013 – as part of a 28-game unbeaten run stretching back to December.

And Lyon simply did not have ability or approach over the 90 minutes to buck that trend.

The French side will be left to rue two missed opportunities in the opening quarter, though, with Memphis Depay shooting wide after running clear before Karl Toko Ekambi struck the upright from close range after cutting in from the right.

Moments after the latter effort, Serge Gnabry moved infield and fired a stunning opener for Bayern, who never looked back.

Gnabry also scored the second, with a much simpler finish, following up to tap in after Anthony Lopes had blocked Robert Lewandowski’s scuffed effort from point-blank range.

Ekambi could have made matters interesting had he been able to find a way past Manuel Neuer after being set up by Houssem Aouar, but the chance went begging and Lyon’s belief with it.

Philippe Coutinho saw a finish ruled out for offside before Lewandowski had the final word, scoring for the ninth European game on the bounce with a header – his 15th in the competition this season.

Bayern’s win ends their run of having lost the previous four Champions League semi-finals in which they had appeared. It also keeps them on course for a treble of trophies in Hansi Flick’s stellar debut campaign as coach.

Sunday’s final promises to be a thriller, pitting arguably the best side in world football against one of the planet’s finest forward lines.

After the stunning 8-2 demolition of Barcelona in the last eight – which had pundits and fans alike purring and sent the Spanish club seemingly into meltdown – Wednesday’s game was always going to feel somewhat anticlimactic, despite it being at a later stage of the competition.

The German giants rode their luck a bit early on but once they got their noses in front the tie was only going one way.

Against Barca it was Thomas Muller and Coutinho scoring doubles, here it was Gnabry with polar opposite finishes – one a solo screamer, the other an unmissable tap-in.

Gnabry’s goals mean he now has nine Champions League goals this season, has eight in his last eight matches in the competition and has been directly involved in six goals in his last four.

He is second in the scoring charts only to Lewandowski, who has 55 goal in 46 games this season and becomes only the second player to score 15 or more Champions League goals in a single campaign after Cristiano Ronaldo (who has managed it on three occasions).-BBC

Southern African Catholic Bishops Rebuke Mnangagwa Over Persecution Of Citizens

Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa

Farai Dziva|The Southern African Catholic Bishops Conference has urged Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa to respect fundamental human rights.

See full statement below:

SOLIDARITY STATEMENT TO THE BISHOPS AND THE CHURCH IN ZIMBABWE

We, the Southern African Catholic Bishops’ Conference (SACBC) greet you in the name of our risen Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

We continue to note with increasing concern the unabated situation of repression in Zimbabwe, resulting in increasing hardship and suffering to the citizens.

We commend you for your prophetic voice in naming and condemning the brutalisation of ordinary people by security forces and the underlying corruption that has led to the total collapse of services to the people by the government.

As St. Paul informs us, “we are one body in union with Christ, and we are all joined to each other as different parts of one body” (Rom.12:5), and so the pain that you are going through, we feel it too.

The Catholic Church and its Bishops in Southern Africa stands in unconditional solidarity with you as leadership who are being targeted by the government and with masses of the people who are suffering from this situation.

Your Pastoral letter of Friday 14 August 2020 clearly describes the hardships and problems faced by Zimbabwe, and analyses the causes, which those in authority do not want to hear.

Your voice of encouragement to the people of Zimbabwe is what they needed to hear in this time of their greatest need.

It is opportune and appropriate that this letter was issued on the eve of the Feast of the Assumption of Mary.

We take hope from and hold on to the assurance given by Our Mother that, “God has put down the mighty from their thrones, and exalted the lowly.” (Lk. 1:52).

It is most regrettable that instead of addressing the issues, the government through its Information Minister Monica Mutsvangwa, chose instead to target and insult Archbishop Robert Ndlovu as “evil minded”, projecting its own tribalistic agenda to fuel divisions in the country.

To you bishops and particularly to you Archbishop Ndlovu we remind you of what Jesus foretold about those who speak in his name that “they will seize you and persecute you” (Lk.21:12).

We pray that the Bishops and the Church will continue to speak prophetically, with the voice of God, and be the light that shines in the darkness”, and the darkness has not overcome it”, (Jn.1:5).

Keeping quiet is not an option and as shepherds of the people your voice of support gives hope to the people entrusted to you to carry on.

As your brothers and sisters in Southern Africa, we assure you of our support and prayers that this time of suffering in your country may soon come to an end.

Yours in Christ
Sithembele Sipuka
Bishop of Mthatha and President of the SACBC

However, increased production of processed foods, rapid urbanization and changing lifestyles have led to a shift in dietary patterns.

People are now consuming more foods high in energy, fats, free sugars and salt/sodium, and many people do not eat enough fruit, vegetables and other dietary fibre such as whole grains.

The exact make-up of a diversified, balanced and healthy diet will vary depending on individual characteristics (e.g. age, gender, lifestyle and degree of physical activity), cultural context, locally available foods and dietary customs.

However, the basic principles of what constitutes a healthy diet remain the same.

For adults
A healthy diet includes the following:
Fruit, vegetables, legumes (e.g. lentils and beans), nuts and whole grains (e.g. unprocessed maize, millet, oats, wheat and brown rice).

At least 400 g (i.e. five portions) of fruit and vegetables per day (2) , excluding potatoes, sweet potatoes, cassava and other starchy roots.

Less than 10% of total energy intake from free sugars (2, 7) , which is equivalent to 50 g (or about 12 level teaspoons) for a person of healthy body weight consuming about 2000 calories per day, but ideally is less than 5% of total energy intake for additional health benefits (7) . Free sugars are all sugars added to foods or drinks by the manufacturer, cook or consumer, as well as sugars naturally present in honey, syrups, fruit juices and fruit juice concentrates.

Less than 30% of total energy intake from fats (1, 2, 3) . Unsaturated fats (found in fish, avocado and nuts, and in sunflower, soybean, canola and olive oils) are preferable to saturated fats (found in fatty meat, butter, palm and coconut oil, cream, cheese, ghee and lard) and trans-
fats of all kinds, including both industrially-produced trans- fats (found in baked and fried foods, and pre-packaged snacks and foods, such as frozen pizza, pies, cookies, biscuits, wafers, and cooking oils and spreads) and ruminant trans- fats (found in meat and dairy foods from ruminant animals, such as cows, sheep, goats and camels).

It is suggested that the intake of saturated fats be reduced to less than 10% of total energy intake and
trans- fats to less than 1% of total energy intake (5) . In particular, industrially-produced trans -fats are not part of a healthy diet and should be avoided (4, 6) .
Less than 5 g of salt (equivalent to about one teaspoon) per day (8).
Salt should be iodized.

For infants and young children
In the first 2 years of a child’s life, optimal nutrition fosters healthy growth and improves cognitive development. It also reduces the risk of becoming overweight or obese and developing NCDs later in life.

Advice on a healthy diet for infants and children is similar to that for adults, but the following elements are also important:
Infants should be breastfed exclusively during the first 6 months of life.
Infants should be breastfed continuously until 2 years of age and beyond.

From 6 months of age, breast milk should be complemented with a variety of adequate, safe and nutrient-dense foods. Salt and sugars should not be added to complementary foods.

Practical advice on maintaining a healthy diet
Fruit and vegetables
Eating at least 400 g, or five portions, of fruit and vegetables per day reduces the risk of NCDs (2) and helps to ensure an adequate daily intake of dietary fibre.

Fruit and vegetable intake can be improved by:
always including vegetables in meals;
eating fresh fruit and raw vegetables as snacks;
eating fresh fruit and vegetables that are in season; and
eating a variety of fruit and vegetables.

Fats
Reducing the amount of total fat intake to less than 30% of total energy intake helps to prevent unhealthy weight gain in the adult population (1, 2, 3) .

Also, the risk of developing NCDs is lowered by:
reducing saturated fats to less than 10% of total energy intake;
reducing trans -fats to less than 1% of total energy intake; and
replacing both saturated fats and
trans- fats with unsaturated fats (2, 3) – in particular, with polyunsaturated fats.

Fat intake, especially saturated fat and industrially-produced trans- fat intake, can be reduced by:
steaming or boiling instead of frying when cooking;
replacing butter, lard and ghee with oils rich in polyunsaturated fats, such as soybean, canola (rapeseed), corn, safflower and sunflower oils;
eating reduced-fat dairy foods and lean meats, or trimming visible fat from meat; and
limiting the consumption of baked and fried foods, and pre-packaged snacks and foods (e.g. doughnuts, cakes, pies, cookies, biscuits and wafers) that contain industrially-produced trans- fats.

Salt, sodium and potassium
Most people consume too much sodium through salt (corresponding to consuming an average of 9–12 g of salt per day) and not enough potassium (less than 3.5 g). High sodium intake and insufficient potassium intake contribute to high blood pressure, which in turn increases the risk of heart disease and stroke (8, 11) .

Reducing salt intake to the recommended level of less than 5 g per day could prevent 1.7 million deaths each year (12) .

People are often unaware of the amount of salt they consume. In many countries, most salt comes from processed foods (e.g. ready meals; processed meats such as bacon, ham and salami; cheese; and salty snacks) or from foods consumed frequently in large amounts (e.g. bread). Salt is also added to foods during cooking (e.g. bouillon, stock cubes, soy sauce and fish sauce) or at the point of consumption (e.g. table salt).

Salt intake can be reduced by:
limiting the amount of salt and high-sodium condiments (e.g. soy sauce, fish sauce and bouillon) when cooking and preparing foods;
not having salt or high-sodium sauces on the table;
limiting the consumption of salty snacks; and
choosing products with lower sodium content.

Some food manufacturers are reformulating recipes to reduce the sodium content of their products, and people should be encouraged to check nutrition labels to see how much sodium is in a product before purchasing or consuming it.

Potassium can mitigate the negative effects of elevated sodium consumption on blood pressure. Intake of potassium can be increased by consuming fresh fruit and vegetables.

Sugars

In both adults and children, the intake of free sugars should be reduced to less than 10% of total energy intake (2, 7) . A reduction to less than 5% of total energy intake would provide additional health benefits (7) .
Consuming free sugars increases the risk of dental caries (tooth decay).

Excess calories from foods and drinks high in free sugars also contribute to unhealthy weight gain, which can lead to overweight and obesity. Recent evidence also shows that free sugars influence blood pressure and serum lipids, and suggests that a reduction in free sugars intake reduces risk factors for cardiovascular diseases (13) .
Sugars intake can be reduced by:

limiting the consumption of foods and drinks containing high amounts of sugars, such as sugary snacks, candies and sugar-sweetened beverages (i.e. all types of beverages containing free sugars – these include carbonated or non‐carbonated soft drinks, fruit or vegetable juices and drinks, liquid and powder concentrates, flavoured water, energy and sports drinks, ready‐to‐drink tea, ready‐to‐drink coffee and flavoured milk drinks); and
eating fresh fruit and raw vegetables as snacks instead of sugary snacks.

Zimbabweans Have Right To Be Heard: Southern African Catholic Bishops Tell Mnangagwa

Emmerson Mnangagwa Praying.

Duo Booted Out As Fissures Rock Zanu Pf

By A Correspondent- Zanu PF party has expelled two politburo members from the party on allegations of working with the organisers of the anti-corruption July 31 demonstrations which were thwarted by security forces.

The two officials are the secretary for health Cleveria Chizema and former Mbare legislator Tendai Savanhu.

The party’s Information and Publicity Acting Secretary Patrick Chinamasa confirmed the expulsions while addressing a media briefing held after Wednesday’s 343rd session of the Politburo.

He said: The politburo has unanimously resolved that Cleveria Chizema be fired from the party because of the seriousness of her case in which she did not deny any wrongdoing. She joins her accomplice Tianshe Mathusa who was expelled in the previous politburo.

The politburo has warned that any element bent on or working to split our leadership and dividing the party will be treated with no leniency. Cde Tendai Savanhu was also expelled again for his association with Cleveria Chizema.

We are making these serious decisions to send a clear message that anyone who does not follow the party line does not deserve to be in our midst.

While several ZANU PF officials have been censored by the party for their involvement in organising the demonstrations, none of them has been arrested.

Meanwhile, freelance journalist Hopewell Chin’ono and Transform Zimbabwe (TZ) leader Jacob Ngarivhume are currently languishing in prison at Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison on similar allegations.

Cash Windfall For Prince Dube

Prince Dube

WARRIORS forward Prince Dube pocketed US$50 000 in signing-on fees after completing his move to Tanzanian giants Azam recently…

The 23-year-old former Highlanders striker, penned a three-year deal with the Tanzanian giants and will be pocketing a salary of between US$3 500 to US$4 000.

Dube’s move to Azam will also see Bosso smiling all the way to the bank as they are believed to have received US$50 000 and will earn more if the player is sold elsewhere after inserting a sell-on clause in their agreement with Azam.

This is the second time that Dube has a joined a foreign league after his earlier transfer to South Africa’s SuperSport United which did not last as he returned to Zimbabwe without making any impact in the Super Diski.

Dube is hoping that the presence of his former Bosso teammate Bruce Kangwa and ex-FC Platinum midfielder Never Tigere at Azam will help him settle immediately in Dar es Salaam.

“I just want to do good things for the team, I want to score goals and make sure the team does well, we are a big team and we must fight for titles,” Dube said during his unveiling.

“I am ready to take up the new challenge because Azam is a big team and as a team, we have to fight for it and be ready to give the fans what they want, to win the title and come to the end of the season, we should be leading, smiling all the way.”

The former Bosso forward is hoping to use his move to Azam as a stepping stone to more professional leagues in Europe.

Chipinge Prison Officer Bribed To Bury “Murdered” Woman

By Fanuel Chinowaita- Chipinge Prison Officer Lucias Mlanga Mariyame of Mandikisa Prison was bribed to bury Talent Antiono who was reportedly murdered in South Africa by her husband.
Talent was buried last week against the tradition of Ndau tribe with the help of prison officer Mariyame, who was bribed by the in-laws and faked to be the Prosecuter.
This happened in  Hangai village, Chipinge.
Speaking to a close source who was at the funeral of the deceased, This publication is reliably informed that the burial of the deceased woman, Talent is taboo.
Said the source who spoke on condition of anonymity:
“This is against our culture and what happened in Chipinge last week is a taboo. The deceased was murdered by her husband. She was however buried without doing any traditional rituals and the pepetrators of the crime never paid a cent to the family of the deceased to acknowledge their crime.
“We are still in a shock. According to Ndau tradition, if an unmarried woman dies or is murdered, the husband should pay a certain amount to the family of the deceased. When we say unmarried we mean when lobola is not paid.
“There was noise at the funeral as the deceased family were demanding to see the body of their relative. They were also demanding money for introductions, in accordance with Ndau tradition. A fight erupted and people threw bricks at each other and several were left nursing wounds.
“Later on, Prisoner Officer Lucias came to the funeral and he assumed the title prosecutor. He however got aay with with his fake prosecutor role while at the same time posing as a relative to the deceased. Talent was then buried.”

Diaspora Community Anchors Zim Economy, Govt Admits

ZIMBABWE has recorded a 33 percent increase in Diaspora remittances to US$466,2 million as at 31 July 2020 compared to US$349,7 million at the same time last year, according to Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) Governor Dr John Mangudya.

This is despite the adverse impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, which has crippled the global economy and rendered millions of migrant workers jobless.

Based on this view, experts had predicted a drop in diaspora remittances mainly from developed economies such as Europe and the United States, as these were heavily affected by the pandemic, leading to loss of incomes mainly on key economic sectors.

Dr Mangudya told journalists during a joint online press conference hosted by the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) and the Apex Bank today that the Diaspora community has greatly assisted the economy by injecting more foreign exchange in the first seven months of the year.

“Over the past months, despite Covid-19, the amount of money that is coming from the Diaspora to Zimbabwe has never gone down,” said the Governor.

“The first seven months of the year (January to July) we received US$466,2 million compared to US$349,7 at the same time last year. This is a 33 percent increase and these are the funds we use in the country.”

Khupe Recalls MDC Councillors Including Gomba

THOKOZANI Khupe led MDC has moved to decimate the remains of Nelson Chamisa’s MDC Alliance after they recalled Harare mayor Hebert Gomba and five councillors saying their membership from the opposition had been terminated.

In a letter addressed to the Minister of Local Government and Public Works, MDC secretary general Douglas Mwonzora said the councillors had ceased to belong to the MDC.

Mwonzora said he derived the authority to recall the councillors basing on the Supreme Court of Zimbabwe judgement in SC 56/20.

The Supreme Court ruling passed in March said Chamisa was an illegitimate MDC president and went on to establish former MDC-T vice president Khupe as interim president adding the party should revert to its 2014 structures.

The councillors who have been recalled are Gomba, Ward 27, Hammy Madzingira, Ward 10, Kudzai Kadzombe, Ward 41, Gaudencia Marere, Ward 32, Costa Mande, Ward 24, and Happymore Gotora, Ward 7.

The move will further cripple Chamisa’s hold on power as the Harare City Council is in part a cash cow that provides financial relief to the MDC Alliance’s operations.

The blow comes as High Court judge, Justice Pisirayi Kwenda recently threw out an urgent chamber application filed by 14 Members of Parliament after they failed to prove that their recent recalls by the MDC led by Khupe were unlawful.

Just In: Police Report 16 Murder Cases In Six Days

Two of the cases were patricide where two fathers were murdered by their sons over what the police said were petty disputes.

The police discouraged gatherings during this lockdown period saying most of the murder cases are happening during illegal beer drinking sprees.

More Protests Coming, 31 July Movement Threatens

THE July 31 Movement has set aside August 31 for “more protests” to pile pressure on the government to end corruption, arbitrary arrests and other gross human rights violations against civilians and activists, its spokesperson Job Sikhala said yesterday.

Sikhala, who is MDC Alliance vice chair, is in hiding as police bay for his blood for allegedly inciting violence by calling for protests against the Zanu-PF government.

Speaking from his hideout, Sikhala gave President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his regime 10 days to stop all acts of alleged abductions and torture of the citizens and ensure workers are paid in a stable currency.

“Stop forthwith the on-going abductions, torture and se_xual assaults of citizens. Take immediate and full responsibility for all previous cases of abductions, torture and se_xual assaults of citizens and hold everyone involved in these cases to account in terms of national and international law,” the Zengeza West legislator said.

“Stop politically-motivated arrests of citizens forthwith, end forthwith all political trials that are before the courts and get the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) to arrest and charge all persons involved in massive corruption and looting of public resources and State assets.”

He added: “If Mnangagwa’s regime does not act within the specified ultimatum period, Zimbabweans will join hands on Monday August 31, 2020 to protest against its complicity and inaction.”

Sikhala said on the same day, the South African opposition Economic Freedom Fighters together with “our brothers and sisters in South Africa” will shut down the Beitbridge Border Post in solidarity with Zimbabweans “whose lives and livelihoods have been put in grave danger by Mnangagwa’s regime”.

“It is outrageous that Zimbabwe’s prisons are currently filled with prisoners of conscience, who are demanding accountability from the regime, while masters of corruption, abductors and human rights abusers roam around free,” he said.

Sikhala is on the police wanted list together with several other activities who are accused of organising the July 31 protest, which was foiled by the military and police.

Mnangagwa yesterday celebrated the failure of the July 31 push, saying it had shamed his detractors.

“I want to commend the party and the citizens in general for shunning the machinations of violence and division through the planned ill-fated July 31 insurrection.

“Following the failure, our detractors are evidently in disarray and desperate and grasping at straws to destroy confidence in our democratically-elected government. They are equally on overdrive to discredit our people-centred programmes,” the Zanu-PF leader told his party’s politburo meeting in Harare.

Union Leader Plots Major Setback For Mnangagwa’s ‘Breakthrough Move’

By Jane Mlambo| President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s major move to compensate former white farmers is set to be challenged by Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ) Secretary General Raymond Majongwe who tweeted that the government was prioritizing colonizers at the expense of workers who are earning below the poverty datum line.

Majongwe posted after meeting University of Zimbabwe lecturer and socialist Munyaradzi Gwisai.

Majongwe accused the former white farmers of enjoying a century of exploiting Zimbabwe land and labour.

“Had a long meeting with Gwisai Munyaradzi yesterday preparing papers to challenge the gvt decision to pay $3,5B to white farmers who had an interrupted Century of exploiting our land and our Labour. They can’t pay workers a livingwage but can pay colonizers.”

Government of Zimbabwe signed a landmark agreement with former white farmers to pay US$3.5 Billion for ‘the developments made on the land which was eventually repossessed and handed to black peasants.

The move has attracted mixed feelings with some quarters accusing government of treating the west with gloved hands.

Five Beasts Punishment For Bedding Another Teacher’s Wife

ZAKA – A Zaka teacher, Livingstone Chipato will pay five heads of cattle after a traditional leader established that he was bedding with another teacher’s wife.

Chipato who is married teaches at Dabwa Primary while his mistress Rumbidzai Nemanhanga, who is also married, teaches at Mushungwa Primary and both schools are in Zaka.

Chipato vehemently denied the allegations at first but pleaded guilty after overwhelming evidence including confession by Nemanhanga were put before acting Chief Bota.

Kamurai Charuka who is acting Chief Bota confirmed the case and told The Mirror that he gave his verdict on Wednesday this week in the presence of a horde of relatives that accompanied Chipato to court.
The aggrieved husband Alec Makundidze is a teacher at Chimbwembwe Secondary.

Makundidze said he was no longer interested to talk about the case which was resolved at the chiefs court when The Mirror sought his comment. He also said there was no need for the issue to be published since it will reduce the moral standing of other individuals in the community. Chipato confessed ignorance about the case but later asked The Mirror reporter about the benefit of publishing peoples personal matters in newspapers. He urged the reporter to visit him for more information.

Sources said that the two adulterers had been in love for three months and they would see each other in the bushes along the Zaka – Jerera road. It is alleged that Chipato would buy groceries for Nemanhanga.

The matter came out after a tip-off to Makundidze who later went through his wife`s cell-phone and found text messages between the two lovebirds.

“I presided over the matter. Chipato initially denied the allegations but pleaded guilty due to overwhelming evidence. The court found Chipato guilty of adultery and ordered him to pay five beasts to Chipato.

“The wife apologised and co-operated with the court leading to the conviction of Chipato who came to the court with relatives,” said Chief Bota.

‘Operation Nyama Yabvepi’ Targets Harare Butcheries

Government has embarked on an operation code-named ‘Nyama Yabvepi’ with the intention of taking diseased meat off the market.

Chief Director in the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Water, Climate and Rural Resettlement Doctor Josphat Nyika revealed at a presser yesterday that government has scaled up police operations amid illegal sell of carcasses.

“As a result of reports that the public is exposed to un-inspected meat, police presence at various check points is going to be up scaled.

“In the next few days there will be operation ‘Nyama yabvepi’ and this will be done by the police, veterinary services, Ministry of Health and local authorities to make sure that all culprits are brought to book.

“The department of veterinary services is working closely with the police to bring perpetrators to book.

“We urge all those with evidence to come forward and help bring sanity to the beef value chain.

“Reports can be made to the nearest police station or senior veterinary officials.

“All these departments are there to make sure that the public is safe.

“Usually this time, the price of meat goes down, demand is less than the supply and consumers then find cheap meat on the market and think it’s probably coming from contaminated beasts but we can’t rule it out that there are unscrupulous dealers out there,” explained Dr Nyika.

Asked on how the public will identify safe meat in various meat outlets, Dr Nyika explained:

“It is not easy to identify an animal that has died from natural causes, however, what is important is the source and we ask where are people getting the meat.

“The problem arises when people get meat from backyard meat sources.

“Abattoirs and butcheries are required by law to display their certificates for the ordinary public to indicate that it is registered.”

He said the Ministry of Lands had noted with concern the recent reports on social media of unscrupulous operator in the beef value chain.

“Following shocking postings on social media that abattoirs operators, butcheries and supermarkets were selling un-inspected meat derived from sick and dead meat animals, a team of veterinary public health officers carried out an extensive investigations to verify the authenticity of the allegations.

“The team could not find evidence to support the media claims that meat derived from sick and dead animals were entering into human food chain.

“Under no circumstances are movement permits issued to sick or dead animals.

“If sick animals or dead animals are detected at ante-mortem inspections, those animals are not processed through the abattoirs, but are condemned and destroyed by burning.

“The public is therefore advised to buy and consume meat that is roller marked in blue ink.

“Such meat is available from reliable major supermarkets and butcheries in Harare and most urban centres in Zimbabwe,” he said.

Dr Nyika said it was a criminal offence for all meat outlets to sell or display for sale meat that has not been processed in a registered slaughter house and inspected and certified as fit for human consumption.

Monica Mutsvangwa’s Skill In Dividing Zimbabwe Leaves Mthwakazi Green With Envy

Monica Mutsvangwa

Make no mistake. Zimbabwe information Minister, Monica Mutsvanga statement was not an attack on one individual Matebele, Arch Bishop Ndlovu or Catholic Bishops.

But it was an unbridled threat of Matabeleland second genocide and broad day light display of Matabele hatred on behalf of unpunished Matabeleland genocide perpetrators and Shona supremacists who dominate the government of Zimbabwe.

When we thought we had seen it all, here comes Nehemiah Mutendi the leader of ZCC also of Monica Mutsvangwa’s tribe, a  Matabeleland genocide denialist saying that people must not talk about Matabeleland genocide.

This is so insensitive for a man who is a Christian like him, its quite clear that he belongs to a large group of Shona men of cloth who kept quiet when innocent people of Matabeleland were being killed.

MLO’s demands  for the restoration of Matabeleland state are justified. This is a wake up call for all Matabeles who still take Zimbabwe as their safe home to realise that there is no such and stand up to fight for the independence of Matabeleland.

The deafening silence from Matabeleland genocide plotters in the Presidency like President  Emmerson Mnangagwa , Vice President Chiwenga and their praise singer come Second Vice, Kembo Mohadi and  shows that wherever they are, they are  laughing and petting Monica Mutsvanga in the back in support of her dangerous tribal hate speech.

For Monica Mutsvanga to single out Arch Bishop Ndlovu, a Matabele, for tribal attack out of seven white and Shona Bishops who signed the pastoral letter aimed at persuading Zanupf to reform shows the highest level of hatred for Matabele people in Zimbabwe. It shows that people of Matabeleland have no freedom of speech in Zimbabwe and that any Matabele who speaks against Matabeleland genocide invites his own death and the slaughter of other innocent Matabeles in Zimbabwe.

It is not surprising that she used Rwandan genocide and Arthanase Seromba as a convenient point of reference in her threat.

Comparing Bishop Ndlovu who condemned gross human rights abuse against Zimbabweans by Zanupf to Arthanase Seromba a convicted and jailed Rwandan genocide perpetrator makes sense only when the principle of reverse psychology is applied.

It is a well known secret that majority Hutu that committed genocide against minority Tutsi in Rwanda and majority Shona that committed genocide in Matabeleland are blood relatives, hence Rwandan genocide proudly used as point of reference.

Shonas were sent packing from the Great Lakes region for witchcraft and left in a huff without a king or leader.

Shonas and Hutu are identifiable by the following traits: they have the DNA of corruption and stealing, hatred for other tribes, failure to run the country and economy, appetite for spilling innocent blood through genocide.

Reverse psychology applied, Monica Mutsvanga statement meant that people of Matabeleland are an insignificant minority whose life and voice are not valued in Zimbabwe. And that any Matabele who talks about the plight of Matabele people and Matabeleland genocide in Zimbabwe deserves to be killed together with other innocent Matabeles like Tutsi in Rwanda.

Rwanda was saved from the destructive hands of Shona blood relatives (Hutu) when Paul Kagame, a Tutsi, took over after a civil war. Now Rwanda is a shining pebble and pride of Africa.

But Zimbabwe will remain a hellhole of corruption, coups, economic chaos and political disorder even after Matabele are long gone as long as the Shona people who are possessed by demons of stealing and witchcraft are in power. It does not matter which Shona will takeover looting and corruption will remain the order of the day.

From now on, MLO will announce its political presents and visibility in Matabeleland and beyond.

Wherever the Shona people will gather to protest, we will be there in our numbers with our banners, placards, hailers and The Republic of Matabeleland flag to demand the restoration of Matabeleland State and compensation of US$100 billion for Matabeleland genocide.

Wherever and whenever the Zimbabweans aka Shona people meet to denounce corruption and discuss the economic fall, we will be present to denounce tribal oppression against Matabele people, marginalisation of Matabele people at high institutions of education, at the labour market, in economics, politics, socially and development wise by the Shona supremacist government.

Wherever and whenever Zimbabweans will sit around the table to discuss the Zimbabwe political crisis, Matabeleland political issues ie Matabeleland statehood restoration and the demand for US$100 billion will be discussed.

MLO does not take genocide threats by the government of Zimbabwe very lightly considering that Nathan Shamuyarira, Zimbabwe  Minister of Information from 1980 to 1987 said Zimbabwe had its own Shona people to care for and does not need extras (Matabele people) and what followed was a genocide where over 40 000 innocent unarmed Matabeles including children and women were dastardly killed.

This time around we will defend our people with our own blood. Never again shall the people of Matabeleland be slaughtered by the government of Zimbabwe while we watch.

Talent Chiwenga Finally Speaks On Deadly Collision With MDC Alliance Spokesman ’18’s Family: This Wasn’t An Ordinary Accident, It Was An Assassination Plan By Enemies Who’re In Govt | UNEDITED LETTER EXCEPT.

Talent Chiwenga wrote addressing the Church members calling them his “children.”

THE FULL UNEDITED EXCERPT IS BELOW:

https://youtu.be/wKy7WSJJaTc

“Mthuli Ncube Is Lying”: Apex Council

By A Correspondent- The civil servants’ Apex Council has accused Finance and Economic Development Minister Mthuli Ncube of lying to the nation by saying that negotiations under the National Joint Negotiation Council (NJNC) are going on when no such meeting has happened since April.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Apex Council said the government has abandoned salary negotiations which are supposed to be held periodically between the two parties under the NJNC.

They said:

The civil service apex council hereby registers its dismay at the absence of dialogue with the employer on the urgent matter of employee welfare in spite of deepening erosion of incomes due to unrelenting inflation.

Although the minister of Finance has been quoted seevral times in various media claiming that negotiations are ongoing, the Apex Council would like to categorically state that no talks of any nature are happening.

For the record, the last National Joint Negotiation Council (NJNC) meeting happened in April 2020, where both parties agreed to reconvene in two weeks as the government side wanted to consult with their principals.

In June, the government awarded civil servants a 50 per cent temporary salary adjustment and a US$75 Covid-19 allowance and promised them a substantive salary increase.

The workers have pleaded with the government to ensure banks did not deprive them of their full value of the US$75 COVID-19 allowance which they are receiving electronically.

They reiterated their demand for USD salaries.

Sports Commission Throws Away Darts Association’s Request To Resume Play.

State Media

National Darts Association of Zimbabwe chairman Menard Moyo presenting a trophy to William Nyemba the National Champion recently.

NATIONAL Darts Association of Zimbabwe will have to wait a bit longer before they resume their games as their request, for a resumption of activities, was rejected.

The association, led by their president Mynard Moyo, wanted their players back in action and submitted another application, to the Sport and Recreation Commission, to be allowed to restart their activities.

Moyo, who has also served as leader of the African Union Sports Council Region Five Darts Confederation, said the greenlight was not granted and urged all the players to observe the ruling.

“The Covid-19 pandemic has continued to ravage our region, and the whole world at large,’’ said Moyo.

“In our country, instead of seeing a reduction in the number of infections, we are seeing a spike in the number of new infections and deaths.

“It is against this (background) that we inform you that due to many glaring reasons like, surge in new infections and unconducive venues, we have indefinitely cancelled all forms of the game at all levels.

“Resuming of games will only be done when all Covid-19 response strategies, and preventative measures, have been met.

“This is the right time for all members to ensure that they spruce up their venues so that they meet the required standards as prescribed by the government and WHO.

“All venues will be thoroughly inspected for compliance.’’

Talent Chiwenga Finally Speaks In Letter To Church Members | FULL TEXT

.”[S]For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ. [6]And whether we be afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer: or whether we be comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation. [7]And our hope of you is stedfast, knowing, that as ye are partakers of the sufferings, so shall ye be also of the consolation. [8]For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life: [9]But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead: [10]Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us; [11]Ye also helping together by prayer for us, that for the gift bestowed upon us by the means of many persons thanks may be given by many on our behalf. [12]For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly to you.
Greetings to you all believers, disciples of our Lord Jesus Christ, children of the Most High God, called to be saints according to the effectual working of the infinite mercies granted to us the elect by God the Father, through Jesus Christ the mediator of the new covenant. Grace and mercy from God our Father be multiplied, and be increased in faith and your understanding of his life giving word.

Grace be upon you all amen

New Prisons Boss Says Prisons Are Over Crowded Even After Amnesty

Paul Nyathi

MP

President Mnangagwa recently promoted Deputy Commissioner-General Moses Chihobvu to Commissioner- General of the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services with effect from November 1, 2020.

In an interview with State Media on his new position, Chihobvu lamented over the growing population in the prisons despite the recent amnesty by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

The prisons boss said:

The prison population has continued to balloon over time with inmates now exceeding 20 000 in our country’s correctional facilities.

Overpopulation in our prisons has put a strain on budgetary provisions to ensure that inmates are adequately catered for in areas such as food, accommodation, shelter and health needs including rehabilitation facilities.

Stakeholders have been of great assistance in meeting some of the needs which are however not always enough taking cognisant of the ever-increasing number of inmates.

ZPCS has, however, not been sitting on its laurels as the situation degenerates. A number of initiatives have been done to try and mitigate the circumstances. For instance:

The Open Prison System, where an open prison for women which is on the cards is set to de-congest female prison facilities where female offenders live in prisons not suitable for them.

The submissions made for the release of some offenders through an amnesty is envisaged to de-congest some facilities.

Those pardoned on Presidential Amnesty are reminded of the need to utilise skills acquired and embrace rehabilitation efforts that they experienced and never to set foot in prison once again unless they are coming to visit inmates.

Above all rehabilitation programmes being conducted in all prisons countrywide are meant to ensure that inmates shun their elements of crime and live as law abiding citizens hence diminishing the recidivism rate.

Continuous engagements will also be pursued with the Judiciary Service Commission to ensure that offenders with offences of less gravity will be commuted to non-custodial sentences.

In the long run, we intend to establish new prisons, a move which we shall pursue from my predecessor’s vision which will see all prisons in towns and cities being relocated to our prison farms.

We continue to urge members of the society to desist from committing crime as this is detrimental not only to personal, and societal lives but to the good of our nationhood as resources are strained to the limit trying to cater for the welfare of those incarcerated.

Mwonzora Recalls Harare Mayor

Zim Morning Post

Douglas Mwonzora

After Mutsvangwa’s Huge Tribal Tirade Against The Ndebele People, Mnangagwa Calls For Urgent Meeting With His Captured Matabeleland Collective

Paul Nyathi

Monica Mutsvangwa

President Emmerson Mnangagwa is a very cheeky man.

After the huge barrage on Ndebele people of Matabeleland by his mouth piece, Monica Mutsvangwa, the President has hurriedly convened a meeting with members of the disgraced Matabeleland Collective an organisation which he captured last year to use as his endorsing authority in the Matabeleland region.

ZimEye.com is reliably informed that the meeting will be held at the Bulawayo State House on Friday.

Mnangagwa knows it from the bottom of his heart that he is extremely not favoured in Matabeleland because of his leading role in executing the eighties Gukurahundi atrocities that killed over 20 000 people in the region.

In an effort to spruce up his image in the region, he successfully hijacked a Matabeleland cluster of civil society organisations, The Matabeleland Collective, which he has been holding meetings with claiming to be the inclusive representation of the region.

The major highlight of his meetings with the Collective has been to fastrek a sub called conclusion to the Gukurahundi issues that will leave him vindicated.

The visit to Bulawayo by Mnangagwa comes at a time when the region is up in arms against his goverment after Information Minister Monica Mutsvangwa made a huge tribal slur against the people of the region.

Sources close to the issue told ZimEye.com that Mnangagwa’s visit and meeting with the collective is to try and appease the region of Mutsvangwa’s utterances.

Mutsvangwa burst out on Saturday accusing the head of the Zimbabwe Catholic bishops congress of stoking division and seeking to create a “genocide” after the group spoke out against alleged rights abuses and economic woes.

On Friday, the Zimbabwe Catholic Bishops Conference (ZCBC) issued an unusually strong letter deploring the thwarting of anti-government protests on July 31.

The bishops denounced the “unprecedented” crackdown on dissent and weighed in on Zimbabwe’s long-standing social and economic crisis, which the government vehemently denies.

In the statement Mutsvangwa said the letter had been written under the “evil minded” leadership of ZCBC president Archbishop Robert Ndlovu.

Mutsvangwa accused Ndlovu, a member of Zimbabwe’s Ndebele minority group, of “fanning the psychosis of tribal victimisation” and sowing “sins of collective guilt” among the Shona majority.

She likened the archbishop to Athanase Seromba, a Rwandan priest who was found guilty of crimes against humanity for facilitating the killing of Tutsis during the 1994 genocide.

“Ndlovu is inching to lead the Zimbabwe Catholic congregation into the darkest dungeons of the Rwanda-type genocide,” Mutsvangwa said, adding that the letter sought to revive the “perennial vices of division”.

Mutsvangwa Says Chamisa’s Jecha Is Reason Why They Are Failing To Run The Country

Paul Nyathi

Troubled Monica Mutsvangwa

Confused underfire Information Minister Monica Mutsvangwa says President Emmerson Mnangagwa is failing to run the country because of opposition MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa is “pouring sand” into his administration.

In a post cabinet media briefing on Tuesday, Mutsvangwa said that problems being experienced by the country emanated from post-2018 election vows by Chamisa that Mnangagwa would not find sleep in his rule.

“We all know that after the 2018 elections, the opposition MDC Alliance spoke about pouring sand (hamutongi tichadira jecha) on Mnangagwa’s reign and this is a public message.

“They have not stopped.”

Mutsvangwa also accused the western world for imposing sanctions on Zimbabwe based on lies.

“Some countries have imposed illegal sanctions on Zimbabwe. These have caused divisions among families. They have stage-managed abduction stories. There is an enemy in Zimbabwe,” she said.

Mugabe Dared The ZCTU To Form Its Own Political Party And Regretted It All His Life

Paul Nyathi

Morgan Tsvangirai

In the middle of Zimbabwe’s first economic turmoil in 1998, the country’s labour movement pressured then President Robert Mugabe to attend to the collapse of the economy.

The Union led several mass actions including staying away from work and demonstrations which were violently foiled by the Mugabe regime.

In the thick of things, instead of Mugabe seeking for dialogue with the powerful workers Union led by Morgan Tsvangirai and Gibson Sibanda, the arrogant Zimbabwean leader challenged the labour union to go out and form its own political party if it wanted to address issues affecting the country.

In less than a year, the labour based Movement for Democratic Change was formed led by the tough Morgan Tsvangirai.

From there on Mugabe never rested. His free rule of the country got its biggest challenge since swallowing Joshua Nkomo’s PF ZAPU into his ZANU PF in 1987.

He went on to lose subsequent elections to the new opposition party he ordered for only to keep using his dirty rigging tactics and military backing to remain in power.

Fast forward to yesterday, under siege President Emmerson Mnangagwa has gone the Mugabe digging into the Catholic Church the world’s most followed church, telling the local priests who rebuked him for poor leadership, to form their own party and challenge him to the elections.

This comes after Catholic priests, under the auspices of the Zimbabwe Catholic Bishops Conference, last week penned a damning condemnation of the Zanu PF led administration for failing to run the country.

Addressing a party politburo Wednesday, Mnangagwa echoed his predecessor’s words telling his party elites that men of the cloth were free to join or form their own political parties if they were itching for a showdown with him.

“It is most unfortunate when men of the cloth begin to use the pulpit to advance a nefarious agenda for detractors of our country.

“Those who want to enter the political realm are welcome to do so. They must come out and form political parties.

“As Zanu PF, we are ready for the 2023 elections,” said Mnangagwa.

Poor Mnangagwa, however, fails to realise that he does not pears possess as much power as did Mugabe back then.

Mnangagwa denied claims Zanu PF was averse to church counsel, adding, the party worked closely with the church during the liberation struggle and in the post-independence era.

“Zanu PF has a close relationship with the church dating back to the days of the liberation struggle,” he said.

“In the post-independence period, we continued to work well. Going forward, we remain committed to working well with church to advance the national development agenda, as a united people.”

Religious organisations local and international have come out in full support of the bishops against Mnangagwa. Civil Society, opposition political parties and students movements have also joined in to support the bishops with some urging the men of the cloth to go on and take Mnangagwa head on.

Time is always the best judge and everyone awaits to see how the church will react to Mnangagwa’s challenge.

Cuba Gooding Jr Accused Of Rape

New York Times

Cuba Gooding Jr. has been accused of raping a woman twice after coaxing her into his room at a Manhattan hotel in 2013, in a lawsuit filed against the actor on Tuesday.

The new allegations go significantly farther than a series of claims that Mr. Gooding subjected women to unwanted sexual touching, three of which are the basis of an upcoming criminal trial. Of the more than 20 accusations discussed in court papers, none of them had alleged rape until now.

According to the lawsuit, which was filed by an anonymous woman who is referred to as Jane Doe, she first met Mr. Gooding at a restaurant in Greenwich Village. He invited her and a friend to have drinks at the Mercer Hotel in SoHo. There, Mr. Gooding ushered the woman up to his room on the fifth floor, where he said he quickly needed to change his clothes, the lawsuit said.

When the woman tried to leave the room, the lawsuit said, Mr. Gooding blocked her way out and eventually pushed her onto the bed and raped her. Afterward, as the woman was trying to get away, Mr. Gooding raped her again, according to the complaint.

She told Mr. Gooding “no” many times, the lawsuit said, but he did not stop. One of the lawyers representing the woman is Gloria Allred, the longtime women’s rights lawyer.

Mr. Gooding’s lawyer, Mark J. Heller, said that the allegations in the lawsuit are “completely false and defamatory,” pointing out that they had never resulted in criminal charges over the past seven years.

Ms. Allred declined to comment on whether the district attorney’s office or the New York Police Department has been informed of her client’s allegations or has been investigating them. A spokeswoman for the Police Department also declined to comment.

The lawsuit claims that Mr. Gooding violated a city law aimed at protecting victims who are targeted because of their gender and caused the plaintiff both physical and emotional injury.

Groping allegations against Mr. Gooding first became public last year when a woman told the police that Mr. Gooding squeezed her breast at Magic Hour Rooftop Bar at the Moxy NYC Times Square hotel on Seventh Avenue in Manhattan. After that, two other women came forward with claims that resulted in criminal charges, and Mr. Gooding now faces three sets of groping charges.

The Manhattan district attorney’s office had publicly documented the claims of an additional 19 women with accusations of unwanted sexual touching against Mr. Gooding, requesting that the jury be allowed to hear testimony from these women to demonstrate a pattern of behavior. A judge ordered that two of the women would be allowed to provide such testimony.

In a court hearing last week, an assistant district attorney, Jenna Long, said that the total number of women who had come forward with accusations against Mr. Gooding had risen to 30.

His trial was supposed to begin in April, but the coronavirus pandemic stalled the proceedings.

Last year, Mr. Gooding was sued by one of the women that he is charged with groping, Natasha Ashworth. She has accused Mr. Gooding of pinching her buttocks while she was serving him at a Manhattan nightclub.

Disgraced ZANU PF Information Officer Apologises For Using The “F” Word On Live International TV

Disgraced Tafadzwa Mugwadi

Zanu PF Information and Publicity Director Tafadzwa Mugwadi Wednesday issued an apology for muttering the ‘F-word’ during a live virtual debate with global news channel Aljazeera.

The youthful former ZINASU president insulted Aljazeera journalist Femi Oke, presenter of the Stream.

Co-panellists during the debate were Human Rights Watch’s director Dewa Mavhinga and opposition MDC Alliance national spokesperson Fadzai Mahere.

The Zanu PF Information Director was invited to participate in a debate that was themed “Are Zimbabweans being silenced?”

In the course of the programme, Mugwadi burst into sarcastic laughter interrupting Oke and then said, “This is rubbish. F*ck you.”

Addressing the media after a politburo meeting at the Zanu PF headquarters, Mugwadi said he had felt unsafe as he was encircled by three MDC activists and ended up throwing harsh remarks on a live show.

“I ended up throwing harsh remarks to an international journalist from Aljazeera. My unreserved apologies,” said Mugwadi.

“I must say I had been encircled by three activists from the MDC Alliance and I felt that it wasn’t balanced, we will look forward to working with them.”

United Kingdom Ambassador To Zimbabwe Meets With Nelson Chamisa

Melanie Robinson

Britain’s ambassador to Zimbabwe Melanie Robinson met opposition leader Nelson Chamisa on Wednesday and declared having had a good conversation worth the opposition leader about the ongoing human rights violations in Zimbabwe.

She said her engagement with Chamisa is part of a political engagements with Zimbabwean stakeholders to see how the United Kingdom can help Zimbabwe out of the current problems.

“We continue to engage across the political spectrum to understand how the United Kingdom can best support Zimbabweans,” Robinson wrote on Twitter.

Former U.S. First Lady Calls On Mnangagwa To Free All Political Prisoners

MDC Alliance Masvingo City Councillor Godfrey Kurauone

Former United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Wednesday called on the Zimbabwe government to “release all political prisoners”, heaping fresh pressure on President Emmerson Mnangagwa who was accused last week of launching an “unprecedented crackdown on dissent” by Catholic bishops.

Clinton, the wife of former U.S. president Bill Clinton, used Twitter to call out the Zimbabwe government.

“I’m calling for the government of Zimbabwe to release all political prisoners, including Godfrey Kurauone, who represent the country’s future. Justice demands it,”: she tweeted.

Kurauone, an MDC Alliance councillor in Masvingo, was arrested for allegedly singing a song denouncing Mnangagwa on July 31 – and has been held without bail since. His family says he has a chronic condition and is being denied access to a doctor.

South Africa Records 4000 New Covid-19 Cases Overnight As Cases Surge To 600k

TimesLive

South African Health Minister Zweli Mkhize

South Africa is likely to hit 600,000 Covid-19 cases on Thursday or Friday, after 3,916 new cases were reported in the past 24 hours.

Health minister Dr Zweli Mkhize announced on Wednesday that there were now 596,060 confirmed infections across the country. More than half of these cases were in Gauteng (202,011), followed by KwaZulu-Natal (107,271) and the Western Cape (103,210).

There were 159 deaths in the past 24 hours, said Mkhize, taking the death toll to 12,423 to date.

Of the new deaths, 37 were in the Eastern Cape, 43 in Gauteng, 45 in KwaZulu-Natal, five in the Free State and 29 in the Western Cape.

The minister also announced that there were 491,441 recoveries – a recovery rate of 82%.

The figures are based on 3,455,671 total tests, of which 25,324 were in the last 24-hour cycle.

Zimbabwe Records 4 400 Covid-19 Recoveries Out Of 5 600 Infection Cases

Zimbabwe’s Covid-19 death toll topped 150 yesterday with nine new deaths, but the number of recoveries rocketed to 4 442 out of the 5 643 cases since the start of the pandemic.

Six of the new deaths were in Harare, driving the city’s death toll up to 83, with one each in Mashonaland Central, Mashonaland East and Masvingo, the first in that province the Ministry of Health and Child Care reported last night.

The total number of new cases reported was 265, but as provincial totals continue to be updated this was exceeded by yesterday’s total of new confirmed recoveries, 337.

So far 78,7 percent of all infected Zimbabweans have now been confirmed as fully recovered with the death toll still hovering around 2,66 percent.

There are just 1 051 active cases still on the ministry books although as delayed recovery figures are updated, the number of ill people is expected to drop further.

South Africa has now recorded 12 264 deaths from 592 144 cases.

But the slowing down of the pandemic in that country is seen with 485 468 recoveries leaving for the first time in some weeks less than 100 000 active cases, with 94 412.

Mthuli Ncube Accused Of Lying To The Nation Yet Again.

Government workers on Wednesday accused their employer of abandoning salary negotiations which are supposed to be held periodically between the two parties under the National Joint Negotiation Council (NJNC).

In June this year, the government awarded its workers a 50 percent temporary salary adjustment and a US$75 Covid-19 allowance to cushion them while awaiting conclusion of negotiations for a substantive salary increase.

But, the workers said they last met their employer in April.

“The civil service apex council hereby registers its dismay at the absence of dialogue with the employer on the urgent matter of employee welfare in spite of deepening erosion of incomes due to unrelenting inflation,” the workers said in a statement.

“Although the Minister of Finance has been quoted several times in various media claiming that negotiations are ongoing, the Apex council would like to categorically state that no talks of any nature are happening. For the record, the last National Joint Negotiation Council (NJNC) meeting happened in April 2020, where both parties agreed to reconvene in two weeks as the government side wanted to consult with their principals.”

The workers reiterated their demand for USD salaries.

“The Apex council takes note of the un-negotiated 50 percent salary increment plus the US$75 Covid-19 allowance as an admission on the employer’s part that the welfare of its workers needs to be improved.

“We also appreciate government’s realisation that workers need to earn USD to survive. Our view is that negotiations should now commence informed by this re-awakening on the employer’s side that our demand for USD is after all the best foot forward,” they said.

The workers also appealed to the government to ensure banks did not deprive workers of their full value of the $75 Covid-19 allowance, which is being paid into special Nostro- accounts and is not being dispensed as cash.

Banks had agreed with government that civil servants would be given special bank cards which they would use to pay for goods and services, but reports indicate that banks have been forcing workers to liquidate their Nostro balances into RTGS sometimes at rates lower than the prevailing market rate.

Welshman Ncube To Lead MDC Alliance Team To Meet Ramaphosa’s Envoys

Professor Welshman Ncube MDC Alliance Vice President

MDC Alliance (MDC-A) president Nelson Chamisa has appointed one of his three deputies, Prof Welshman Ncube, to engage South African President Cyril Ramaphosa’s envoys when then return to Harare to continue with their engagement efforts.

Ncube told the Daily News that Chamisa assigned him to work with various departments within the party to gather their input for the party’s submission to the envoys.

Said Ncube:

“I have been assigned by president Chamisa to co-ordinate the work of the various MDC Alliance departments who are working on the party’s submission to the envoys — which the president intends to make to the envoys when and if they return to the country to consult us and other stakeholders”

“When the envoys returned to South Africa last week, the South African ambassador to Zimbabwe telephoned president Chamisa indicating that the envoys intended to return to Zimbabwe as soon as possible and that we would be advised once the dates are confirmed.”

“It is in that context that we have continued to work on our submission that the president will make to the envoys”

According to an unnamed MDC-A official who spoke to the Daily News, Chamisa appointed Ncube for the role because he (Ncube) is close to Mufamadi, the duo worked together in the 2008 inclusive government negotiations.

The official said the MDC-A is now hoping to use this closeness to Mufamadi to tell its side of the story.

Earlier this month, Ramaphosa sent special envoys – former South African vice president Baleka Mbete and ex-ministers Sydney Mufamadi and Ngoako Ramatlhodi – to Harare.

Zanu PF Expels Two Members For Sympathising With Opposition

Zanu PF

THE ruling Zanu PF has expelled politburo secretary for health Cleveria Chizema and former Mbare legislator Tendai Savanhu for working with the organisers of the failed July 31 demonstrations.

Information and Publicity Acting Secretary Patrick Chinamasa confirmed the expulsions while addressing a media briefing held after Wednesday’s 343rd session of the Politburo .

“The politburo has unanimously resolved that Cleveria Chizema be fired from the party because of the seriousness of her case in which she did not deny any wrong doing, she joins her accomplice Tinashe Mathusa, who was expelled in the previous politburo,” said Chinamasa.

“The politburo has warned that any element bent on or working to split our leadership and dividing the party will be treated with no leniency.

Tendai Savanhu was also expelled again for his association with Cleveria Chizema.”

He added; “We are making these serious decisions to send a clear message that anyone who does not follow the party line does not deserve to be in our midst.”

Chizema was suspended earlier this month after she was found in possession of posters and pamphlets that denounced President Emmerson Mnangagwa ahead of the flopped 31 July.-ZBC News

Ramaphosa Envoys To Return To Zim For Further Negotiations?

President Ramaphosa

THE MDC Alliance is hopeful that South African envoys will be able to nudge President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Zanu PF to finally hold much-needed dialogue with the opposition and other key stakeholders to end Zimbabwe’s decades-old political crisis.

So hopeful is the Alliance, that it was apparently persuaded not to escalate its grievances against Mnangagwa and the government to the just ended 40th Ordinary Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the Southern African Development Community (Sadc) — which was held virtually.

This comes as President Cyril Ramaphosa is trying to end Zimbabwe’s worsening political and economic crises, which have once again attracted international attention — following the government’s alleged breach of human rights in the country during last month’s foiled protests.

It also comes as Mnangagwa, who ascended to power via a popular military coup in November 2017, has come under growing pressure from long suffering Zimbabweans over his government’s failure to mend the country’s broken economy.

Now, ahead of the planned return to Harare by Ramaphosa’s special envoys — former South African vice president Baleka Mbete and ex-ministers Sydney Mufamadi and Ngoako Ramatlhodi — the MDC Alliance says it is hopeful that this will result in positive engagements.-Daily News

Southern African Catholic Bishops Conference Defends Archbishop Ndlovu :Full Text

Zimbabwean Catholic Bishops

Human Rights Commission Statement on Protection of the Rights of Rights Defenders in Zimbabwe

19 August 2020

1. Introduction

Section 232 (b) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment No. 20 Act, 2013 provides that the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission (ZHRC) is one of the five Independent Commissions Supporting Democracy. The common objectives of Independent Commissions are provided for in section 233 of the Constitution as follows:

a) to support and entrench human rights and democracy;

b) to protect the sovereignty and interests of the people;

c) to promote constitutionalism;

d) to promote transparency and accountability in public institutions;

e) to secure the observance of democratic values and principles by the State and all institutions and agencies of government, and government-controlled entities; and

f) to ensure that injustices are remedied.

2. The role of ZHRC in supporting democracy is also in line with provisions of the Universal Declaration on Democracy (1997) and the African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Good Governance (2007). Articles 3 and 6 of the Universal Declaration on Human Rights and Article 4 of the African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Good Governance reiterate the State’s obligation to promote democracy, the principle of the rule of law and human rights.

3. Protection of Rights of Human Rights Defenders

As a national human rights institution supporting democracy, the ZHRC is concerned with the infringement of the rights of human rights defenders in Zimbabwe. According to the United Nations Declaration on Human Rights Defenders (1998) and the Marrakech Declaration (2018), human rights defenders are persons who individually or with others, act to promote and protect human rights. They comprise of individual activists, national human rights institutions, lawyers, teachers, journalists, trade unionists, environmentalists, whistle-blowers, religious institutions and residents’ associations, among others.

Human rights defenders can defend human rights as part of their jobs or in a voluntary capacity by: supporting respect for human rights in their communities and countries, collecting and disseminating information on human rights violations, supporting victims of human rights violations, taking action to secure accountability and end impunity; supporting better governance and government policies, contributing to the implementation of human rights treaties as well as human rights education and training.

5. It has been noted that violations of rights of human rights defenders can include, among others:

a) Smear campaigns

b) Surveillance and enforced disappearances

c) Harassment

d) False charges

e) Arbitrary detention

f) Restrictions on the exercise of the right to freedoms of expression, assembly and association

g) Physical and verbal att\acks

6. Recent cases of violation of rights of human rights defenders include the attacks on civil society as well as political and religious groups which are highlighting the diverse human rights abuses taking place in Zimbabwe.

a) The Commission therefore wishes to reiterate the inalienability of human rights, including rights of human rights defenders, even during public health emergencies such as the COVID-19 pandemic. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948), highlights that human rights are universal, inalienable, indivisible, interdependent and interrelated, hence the need to ensure that citizens continue to enjoy all their rights, in spite of limitations in the interests of public health. Inalienability means that rights cannot be taken away from rights-holders but only limited through lawful, proportionate and justifiable means as stated in sections 86 and 87 of the Constitution.

b) The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (1976) also places emphasis on the inalienability of human rights. It states that recognition of the inherent dignity and of the equal and inalienable rights of all is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace. The Covenant affirms that the ideal of free human beings enjoying civil and political freedoms and freedom from fear and want, can only be achieved if conditions are created whereby everyone enjoys his/her civil and political rights as well as economic , social and cultural rights. Since human rights are indivisible, interdependent and interrelated, infringement of civil and political rights also translates to violation of socio-economic rights.

c) The ICCPR places an obligation on the State to be guided by the principles in the Charter of the United Nations in the promotion, respect for and observance of, human rights and freedoms.

d) The ICCPR also reminds citizens of their duties to other individuals and the communities to which they belong. Citizens are enjoined to also strive for the promotion and observance of human rights and freedoms.

7. Recommendations

In light of the human rights situation in Zimbabwe, the ZHRC therefore recommends the following:

7.1 To: The Government of Zimbabwe

a) ZHRC calls upon the Government of Zimbabwe to respect, protect, promote and fulfil all the rights enshrined in the Declaration of Rights as provided for by section 44 of the Constitution.

b) ZHRC calls upon the Government to safeguard and advance human rights as dictated by international human rights law and the obligations imposed by treaties and conventions Zimbabwe is party to.

7.2 To: Political Parties

a) Political parties are urged to desist from aiding and abetting violations of human rights through incitement and perpetration of violence.

b) Political parties should promote enjoyment of the rights to peace, human dignity and personal security as enshrined in sections 51 and 52 of the Constitution.

7.3 To: The Regional and International Community

a) The Regional and International Community is urged to abide by the principles encapsulated in the Charter of the United Nations. Article 2 (1) of the UN Charter reiterates the need to respect the sovereignty of member States, including the Republic of Zimbabwe, by refraining from divisive politics.

b) The Regional and International Community is urged to support Zimbabwe in coming up with domestic solutions to its political and socio-economic challenges and also facilitate elimination of conflict and hostility between the State and its citizens.

7.4 To: Citizens and Human Rights Defenders

Citizens of Zimbabwe and human rights defenders are urged to exercise their rights responsibly, always taking cognisance of the escalating public health threat being posed by the Covid-19 pandemic by refraining from peddling false news that is divisive and inciteful.

Bayern Munich Thrash Lyon To Book Champions League Final Clash With PSG

No To Bastardization Of Our Courts

MDC ALLIANCE NAMIBIA DISTRICT CASTIGATES THE DELEGITIMISATION OF OUR COURTS

The right of an accused person to be represented by a lawyer of choice is one of the fundamental rights enshrined in the constitution of Zimbabwe.

We presume true that the court’s decision to baffle Beatrice Mtetwa from defending Hopewell Chin’ono is an attempt by Zanupf to obstruct justice.

Our advice is that Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa must cease to treat our courts as a political institution run by greedy Zanupf thugs.

In the wake of our national democratic upheaval scandals over devastating effects of Corona virus and security crackdown on innocent citizens, partisan politics of repression has continued unabated in Zimbabwe. The malady is the delegitimisation of the judges appointed by the arrogant and cunning Zanupf Bonapartist government, which is currently being manipulated by stomach politicians who rigged elections in July 2018. We demand that the autocratic regime must start respecting the rights of accused persons to bail and fair hearing represented by lawyers of their choice. It must be clear that the judiciary should discharge their duties impartially, expeditiously and without prejudice.

Furthermore, the judges must commence to speak for the constitution of Zimbabwe not for corrupt individuals. The ruling that hindered Hopewell from choosing a lawyer of his choice is perculiar to the judgement delivered by the Supreme court to the political behemoth MDC ALLIANCE on the 31st of March 2020. The Supreme court gave Khupe illegal authority to recall our legislators from parliament and councillors from the local councils. It came with great shock that a competent court would rule that Khupe who dismally failed to win even one constituency before we consider proportional representation could be given authority to recall our MPs who contested against her in the harmonised 2018 elections. Even a Kangaroo court in Chibwedziva or Dotito could have done better.

Moreover, this kind of court capture has been perpetrated through a complex network of anonymously bribed judges like what was unearthed on the list of the Mechanisation scheme saga which unraveled some of our judges implicated as beneficiaries. Zanupf captured courts are neglecting their legislative duties to aggressively reconcoct and rewrite the 2013 constitution through illegal amendments during the lockdown when people are under a curfew. As social democrats we are perturbed by Zanupf’s appetite to amend the constitution before aligning it to the current laws of the country. This is an attempt to turn the trusted courts and constitution into a political weapon to decimate all dissenting voices. It is a catastrophic game that can’t be swallowed by social transformers in the national democratic revolution.

In addition, Zanupf terrorists must be warned that judges should not decide cases in the language of partisan politics. We are convinced that Justices or Judges were groomed to be reliable Zanupf emphathisers . Mdc Alliance Namibia postulates further that the nominations for High, Supreme and Constitutional Courts Justices/Judges are made partisan because Zanupf was confident that there would be no surprise packages in their rulings. Recently Chief Justice Malaba once proposed that all his subordinates should hand over judgements to him before delivering them down in our courts. This occured when different judgements were handed over in high court on whether Mdc Alliance is a political party or not. Some judges were convinced that it is a polittical party on its own versus Zanupf surrogates who are on their destructive mission to end the leadership of President Nelson Chamisa.

To top it off, the most recent cases of Hopewell, Godfrey Kurauone, Jacob Ngaribvumwe and the current closure of the much needed democratic space is a clear sign of a political crisis in Zimbabwe. It is apparent that Zanupf protects political power by upholding arbitrary arrests, torture and abductions on the voice of the voiceless.

Farai Dziva|Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa says Zanu PF has a sound relationship with the church since the days of the liberation struggle but the party will not tolerate criticism from clerics advancing a ” nefarious agenda.”

In his statement on Wednesday, Mnangagwa said the clerics should form their own political parties.

“It is unfortunate to note that men of the cloth are using the pulpit to advance a nefarious agenda for the detractors of our country.Let them form their own parties. As Zanu PF, we are ready for the 2023 elections,” said Mnangagwa.

Emmerson Mnangagwa Dictatorship Exposed

Emmerson Mnangagwa

By Blessing Simpson Madzima

The decision to stage a coup to overthrow Mugabe was clearly calculated on the basis and reasons of the increased vulnerability of Mugabe’s decreased capacity generation of strategic leadership and coordination of his authoritarian rule.

Mnangangwa and Chiwenga were always a factor in Mugabe’s dictatorship and decision making.

Their decision to remove Mugabe was exercised with the blessing of China, Britain and South Africa who also wanted to see the back of Mugabe.

Britain wanted to facilitate a peaceful transition to democracy and unity to ensure its intention to invest in various fields such as mining and agriculture was guaranteed.

Mnangwagwa and Chiwenga had different objective and the intention was to take advantage of the vulnerability of the country and its citizens to ensure they guarantee their authority and power to even oppress the people more and keep them under control.

The events of August 31st 2018 and January 2019 were not a surprise, but a clear warning to the citizens and the entire world that the regime had not changed by the removal of Mugabe.

The removal of Mugabe was to ensure the regime stayed in power to entrench its militarisation of law enforcement and foster infiltration and subversion of citizen groups that could be forces of reform.

The case and treatment of Hopewell and Beatrice Mtetwa are signals that denotes the effects of tyrannical rule which are designed to inflict pain, stress, mental disorder, malnutrition, poverty, brutal attacks, persecution, death and suffering. The behaviour and conduct of the judiciary is the beginning of instituting a ruined society and country.

The tyrant Mnangangwa will continue to institute Judicial activism and continue to issue unconstitutional decisions from the benches across the country.

If citizens fail to build profound engagement, collaboration and strategic resistance mechanism compounded by great leadership, then we are to experience a brutal experience of poverty and suffering masses for a longtime.

Something has to be done now and a broader collective collaboration with profound leadership is needed urgently to inspire people to develop a positive impactive resistance to this brutal tyrant.

Constant focus on the tyrant other than our differences is a prerequisite for us to overcome this tyrant.

Don’t Be Used By Zanu PF-Mutendi , Wutawunashe Warned

Zanu PF

Farai Dziva|Fearless cleric, Bishop Ancelimo Magaya has said church leaders should not be used by Zanu PF to advance its evil machinations.

Bishop Magaya rebuked Prophet Andrew Wutawunashe and Bishop Nehemiah Mutendi for purporting to speak on behalf of the church.

Below is Bishop Magaya’s statement:

It is tragic when church leaders pontificate with no aorta of biblical references.

Hearing Wutaunashe and Mutendi speaking on ZBC in defense of the government , you would think you are hearing political commissars.

They would rather disassociate with the church and cling to evil doers.

“And among the prophets of Jerusalem I have seen something horrible…..they strengthen the hands of evil doers so that no one of them repents from wickedness…”(Jer 23 vs14).

It is not surprising when today you hear church leaders like Wutaunashe speaking as surrogates of ED.

Mukudzeyi Junior Releases Debut Album

Jah Prayzah

Jah Prayzah’s first born son, Mukudzeyi Junior who has been showing interest in his father’s trade is set to release his debut single on Wednesday.

Mukudzeyi Junior, a few months before the Covid-19 pandemic broke out, had been accompanying his father to some of his shows where he would showcase his singing talent, much to the amusement of show goers.

Also, he has been featuring on some of his father’s music videos of late with many encouraging Jah Prayzah to nurture his son while he is still young.

It seems Jah Prayzah has taken that advice as he yesterday shared news that Mukudzeyi Junior is ready to share his first song with people.
“Mukudzeyi Junior in the studio creating magic.

I am proud of you son. I can’t wait for the world to hear your talent and voice,” wrote Jah Prayzah as he shared an image of his son in his studio in Harare.

He said the song was produced by talented Victor Stot who he thanked for assisting his son.-Chronicle

African Union Suspends Mali

The African Union has suspended Mali going to the point of demanding the release of Mali’s President Keita, who resigned after being detained at gunpoint by mutinous soldiers.

The African Union suspended Mali Wednesday after the mutinous soldiers seized power and detained the president.

“The African Union suspends Mali from the African Union until restoration of constitutional order and demands release of President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, the Prime Minister and other government officials forcibly detained by the army,” tweeted the African Union’s Peace and Security Council on Wednesday.

The development led an outcry against the AU which supported Emmerson Mnangagwa’s November 2017 coup.

Zim Govt Summons Vatican Diplomat Over What It Says Its Insults Thrown At Mnangagwa

New Ziana

Zimbabwean Catholic Bishops

The government on Wednesday said it had resolved to summon the Vatican’s diplomatic representative in Zimbabwe to clarify issues raised by the Church’s local leadership in a pastoral letter last week.

In their letter, the Zimbabwe Catholic Bishops Conference accused government of perpetrating human rights abuses, without providing any evidence.

Of particular concern to government, the Bishops said: “It is not clear to us as your Bishops that the national leadership that we have has the knowledge, social skill, emotional stability and social orientation to handle the issues we face as a nation.”

It is in light of that statement that Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi said that the government would seek clarification from the Vatican whether this was now its official position on Zimbabwe and its leadership.

“In this regard, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Lt Gen S.B. Moyo will be meeting the Apostolic Nuncio, the diplomatic representative of the Holy See accredited to Zimbabwe,” he said.

“This statement constitutes an outright insult to the person of the President E.D Mnangagwa and his entire government and is couched in language decidedly unbecoming of an institution such as the Catholic Church.

“Given that the venerable Bishops represent the Catholic Church, government is compelled to directly engage the Vatican in order to ascertain whether or not such statements reflect the official attitude of the Holy See towards Zimbabwe’s leadership or whether these are views of the various individuals concerned.”

Ziyambi said government was disappointed with the manner the Bishops had decided to air their concerns instead of approaching government using existing diplomatic channels.

He condemned the stance taken by the Bishops and said instead of preaching unity and peace, the Bishops sought to further entrench the polarisation which already afflicts the country.

“That they have chosen this moment to add their voices to what has become a shrill, politically motivated cacophony masked as moral outrage on the basis of a deliberate misinterpretation of recent events in Zimbabwe is both regrettable and deeply disappointing,” he said.

“At no stage have the authors of the letter, either as individuals or as a collective, sought to engage the government on any level in order to gather an understanding of its position on any of the issues raised. The government notes that the Bishops have made a conscious decision to avoid direct engagement, opting instead for grandstanding and what amounts to politically motivated mudslinging.”

He added: “By allowing itself to be manipulated into joining what is so clearly a fabrication based on distortion, invention and outright falsehood, the Catholic church does itself injury and its followers a major disgrace.”

Ziyambi said although the Bishops had opted for a confrontational approach, government was willing to engage the Catholic Church and other religious communities in a cordial manner.

“Notwithstanding the deliberately provocative and divisive nature of the pastoral letter, the President’s commitment to the path of engagement with all religious communities remains steadfast and solid.

“With specific regard to the letter and with a view to preserving and maintaining long-standing cordial relations with the Catholic Church, government will avail itself of existing diplomatic channels to engage the church to more fully understand and appreciate the actions of its local representatives,” he said.

On the issues raised by the Bishops, Ziyambi said government was committed to fighting corruption and the President has demonstrated this by firing two Cabinet Minister over corruption allegations.

Their cases are currently before the courts.

Watch ZANU PF Youth Leader Tafadzwa Mugwadi Tell Al Jazeer News Host The F Word On Live TV

Own Correspondent

ZANU-PF Spokesman Tafadzwa Mugwadi has dragged Zimbabwe’s international reputation further through the mud this week after he resorted to profanity and insults during a live interview with Al-Jazeera.

The news broadcaster had invited Tafadzwa Mugwadi on air to discuss the coronavirus crisis. Instead of participating in the conversation, ZANU-PF’s director of publicity – yes, really – has now probably caused himself a lot of work to take care of on Wednesday morning.

Things boiled over after a clip of President Mnangagwa was played to the panel. The leader’s claims were openly challenged, sending the ZANU-PF representative into a strop. He then dropped the f-bomb live on air, after laughing his way through a pretty serious line of questioning.

“Keeping Quiet Is Not An Option,” Southern Africa Bishops Conference Urges Zim Bishops

Zimbabwean Catholic Bishops

The Southern Africa Bishops’ Conference has encouraged the Zimbabwe Catholic Bishops to stand strong, saying keeping quiet when egregious human rights violations are being committed is not an option.

Below is the statement in full.

EEF Joins Hands With J31M For Border Shutdown | FULL TEXT

The 31st July Movement and the Zimbabwe Economic Freedom Fighters (ZEFF) will stage a five day blockade of Beitbridge Border Post to protest the escalating human rights violations in Zimbabwe.

ZEFF has approached its opposition counterparts in South Africa for logistical support.

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has already offered support to the planned demonstrations, saying his party would participate.

The ZEFF wrote to SA EFF requesting political and logistical support to ensure the success of the protest.

The objective of the protest is to shut down the Beitbridge Border Post to put pressure on the government of Zimbabwe.

The 31st July Movement (J31M) is a Zimbabwean citizen driven pressure group.

Its spokesman, Job Sikhala, is billed to address the protesters from his place of hiding, because police have issued a wanted notice on him for planning the 31st July demonstration after which the movement has been named.

EFF leader Julius Malema first mooted the protests, saying Zimbabwe’s should not be afraid to due because they are already dead.
He is also expected to grace the occassion.

EFF South Africa has already given political support to the movement and will provide logistical support for the demonstration.

The demonstration comes in the wake of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government turning a deaf ear to all efforts by the African Union and the South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, to have him address the deteriorating situation.

Zimbabwean Catholic Bishops have also urged him to initiate a national dialogue, but they have been denounced as anti-government.

Corruption is behind most of Zimbabwe’s economic ills, but when journalists expose the corruption, they are locked up and accused of trying to bring down the government – very serious charges that can draw the death sentence.

Yesterday a magistrate forced accused journalist Hopewell Chin’ono’s lawyer to be withdrawn from the case, saying she was also on a regime-change agenda.

Chin’ono was in court looking gaunt, having been denied home-cooked meals in the maximum security remand prison where he is being held.

I’m A Zimbabwean Doctor. The Crisis Is Even Worse Than You Think.

African Arguments

File Picture of Zimbabwean doctors on strike.

You may have heard about the seven babies stillborn in Harare Hospital in one day at the end of July. From the maternity register that night, you can see that the infants were on average a healthy weight. They should have survived. The reason they died is because Zimbabwe’s health system is simply not functioning as we speak.

Many doctors, like me, are afraid to say this because our government only knows how to use force. That’s why I am writing this anonymously. But the reality here is that the tragic case of those babies is just one of many. There are many more people dying.

This situation was already desperate last year. Medics in Zimbabwe were struggling to get by on such low wages and to work in such poor conditions. This led us to go on strike in September 2019. We only returned to work in January 2020 when the telecoms tycoon Strive Masiyiwa offered to supplement our government wages with a monthly subsistence allowance through his charitable foundation.

But then, in March, Covid-19 reached Zimbabwe. At a time when the dilapidated healthcare sector urgently needed support and attention, President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration did nothing.

In April, the High Court ordered the government to ensure all healthcare workers were supplied with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). But now in August, there is still hardly any PPE. If you’re lucky, you’ll get an N-95 mask (one with an air filter), but we’re mostly working with one surgical mask that has to last the entire day and plastic aprons. We hear more and more of nurses being infected and, when they do, there is no insurance for them, no support, and no one to look after them. This, in the middle of a pandemic.

Pay has also remained desperately inadequate. Health workers are not asking for money to buy expensive houses and go on holiday, but just enough to survive. As a doctor, for instance, I receive about $175/month. That’s a little less than $6 a day. Both my wife and I are frontline workers, and we struggle to pay the rent and bills with this pay. The situation is even more dire for nurses. Many of these essential workers receive just $30/month and go hungry because they can’t afford to spend money on food.

It’s for these reasons that nurses in Zimbabwe went on strike two months ago. Instead of improving pay, PPE and working conditions, however, the government brought in student nurses and those who had been out of work for a long time. This meant that many wards were overwhelmed or staffed with nurses who were either inexperienced or who hadn’t received recent training.

Shortly after, doctors downed tools too. We are demanding the same things as our colleagues: PPE; better conditions and equipment in hospitals; decent pay; and for our salaries to be paid in US dollars rather than the RTGS dollar (or “Zimdollar”) which is subject to hyperinflation.

Throughout the pandemic and following the story about the death of the babies, some of us have been criticised for going on strike. I understand, but we are not striking because we don’t want to work. We are striking because we want to be able to do our jobs. But to do that, we need real equipment and not to be improvising the whole time. We need to be physically, emotionally and mentally fit. And we can’t be worried about catching COVID-19 every time we go to work and thus endangering ourselves and our families.

Those seven babies should be gurgling happily with their parents or guardians right now. But in the current situation in Zimbabwe, the truth is that they didn’t stand a chance. At the department where they were born, the staff were overworked and underappreciated to the point that they could simply no longer afford to work. There is maybe one overwhelmed nurse or midwife there, taking care of ten to fifteen patients. If a woman needs to be operated on, there are no anaesthetists to call on and too few nurses to prepare the patient.

The tragedy of those babies, however, is just one story. There are many more that you won’t have heard about. Of people dying on operating tables; of patients with tumours being turned away because we haven’t been able to carry out elective surgeries for months and then dying after the disease spreads; of preventable conditions that should only require basic treatment becoming life-threatening.

Across the country, health workers are having to turn patients away. I have lost count of the number of patients I have had who are sick but cannot afford even the most basic of treatments. Sometimes you stop and wonder: are all these people being failed by Zimbabwe’s healthcare system now just dying at home?

We are tired of telling patients that you are going to die, tired of patients dying when it could have been prevented. As people who were trained to care, the situation is incredibly distressing. Our morale is incredibly low – the lowest it has ever been – and so many people now just want to leave the country.

We are looking to our government for change, but the truth is they don’t care. The people in power don’t get treated in government hospitals. When they get sick, they go abroad. They even saw the pandemic as little more than a money-making opportunity. We saw this play out in the multi-million-dollar equipment procurement scandal that led to the recent arrest of the Health Minister as well as the vindictive detention of Hopewell Chin’ono, the journalist who uncovered it. The government then appointed Vice-President Constantine Chiwenga – a military man known for making insulting comments about doctors – as the new Health Minster.

President Mnangagwa’s disdain for ordinary Zimbabweans can be seen in his administration’s stifling of people’s freedoms. A month after it awarded Range Rovers and Toyota Pick-Up Trucks to senior civil servants and diplomatic staff, it can also be seen in its treatment of the nation’s health workers, its healthcare system and the millions of Zimbabweans who rely on it.

ZANU PF Politburo Fires Tendai Savanhu And Not Monica Mutsvangwa

The Zanu PF Politburo on Wednesday expelled party secretary for health, child care and the elderly, Cleveria Chizema and former Mbare East Member of Parliament Tendai Savanhu, for “behaviour inconsistent with the party”.

Last month, Zanu PF suspended Chizema-the most senior Politburo member in Harare-for further investigation after the security department presented a report on how internal forces were working with some senior officials to foment discord in the party.

The two were fired when a number of party officials expected Information Minister Monica Mutsvangwa to be the causality after she exposed the party to disrepute with a careless statement against Catholic Bishops Conference.

Announcing the dismissal of the two Zanu PF acting spokesperson Patrick Chinamasa said the ruling party would not spare those working to divide the party.

“Today the Politburo unanimously decided that Mrs Cleveria Chizema be fired from the party because of the seriousness of her case in which she did not deny any wrongdoing. She joins her accomplice Tinashe Maduza who was expelled at the last Politburo,” he said.

He said any elements working to split or divide the party would not be treated with leniency.

“On the list of the people expelled from the party is Tendai Savanhu, again for his association with Chizema. He stands expelled as of today.”

Chinamasa said in the case of Chizema, she did not deny the allegations.

“She said it happened in March but she did not alert the party and hid some of the material under her carpet,” he said.

The Politburo also endorsed the suspension of Tamuka Nyoni, the party’s Matabeleland North youth chairperson.

“Tamuka Nyoni, youth leader from Matabeleland North was suspended by his province and the politburo endorsed the suspension for his alleged involvement in behaviour and actions which are inconsistent with our expectations of cadres of the party,” said Chinamasa.

He added: “We are making serious decisions to send clear message to anyone who does not follow the party line that he does not deserve to be in our midst,” he said.

WIWA: ALL DICTATORS DIE MISERABLE DEATHS

Job Sikhala...

By Hon Job Wiwa Sikhala
31st July Movement Spokesperson.

Let you be reasurred dear Zimbabweans, that all dictators in their different level of evilness died sad deaths. Even cruel Kings against their subjects faced the same fate. So let this be a warning to ED and his acolytes. You are expediting your sad death by fighting everyone including the church and servants of God. From the Napoleon Bonaparte period all the way to modern history all dictators died miserable deaths. Let me give you the list you quickly remember.

1) *Mobutu Sese Seko*
A ruthless dictator who killed anyone opposed to him on his way. A looter who looted Zaire and bought the most expensive Hotel in Geneva, Switzerland and stashed his loot which was more than the GDP of Portugal in Swiss banks. He died lonely in Morocco. Frail and homeless. No single Zairean drop a tear for him after they chased him away like a dog. He died in a country no one even noticed him or talk to him. He was rejected for exile by the whole world and spend days in a ship in the Atlantic Ocean waiting for the signal of which country could have accepted him. Morocco under heavy diplomatic plea from the USA finally accepted him on the condition that he will be confined in his own room talking to no one on the outskirts of Rabat.

2) *Hastings Kamuzu Banda.*
The man who made everyone to believe that even if you think bad about him heading cattle in the bush he will know about it and will kill you. A man who put Section 9 in the 1966 Malawi Constitution that “Ngwazi Kamuzu Banda will be President of Malawi for life”. A man who threw his opponents into crocodile infested ponds. Like Mnangagwa’s new Feret, Kamuzu Banda had the Malawi Young Pioneers who were roaming everywhere waiting to pounce against anyone opposed to him. Malawians drove him out of power in 1994. Even at the frail age of 107 years Malawians took turn to hound him. One of the largest law suits against a deposed dictator happened in Malawi. He died a sorrowful death isolated and a paltry gathering of mouners of John Tembo and Mama Chadzamira attended his funeral. All the frightening power was gone, isolated and haunted.

3 *) Sani Abacha*
The man who liquidated my namesake Ken Saro Wiwa and 9 other Ogoni social movement activists, who assassinated Moshood Abiola for winning Presidential elections, the man who took Olesugan Obasanjo to prison waiting for the goul died mysteriously in the company of 4 prostitutes of Indian origin. He was hastily buried by pockets of power mongers who wanted to quickly instal Abdulsalam Abubakar as the interim President to transition. No one mourned him. There was wild outbreak of celebrations in Nigeria on the announcement of his death.

4) *Muammer Gadaffi*
One who loved to call himself Leader of the Great People of Great Jamarihiya. The country l had the privilege to visit as a Student leader at the University of Zimbabwe in 1998. I was in Tripoli and later taken to Misurata. Episodes of murder against his opponents was whispered allover. People could not discuss anything about his name. In hotels were we stayed his agents were allover the place. Phones for everyone bugged. His name not allowed to be said or discussed anywhere by anyone. Fear was written on the face of anyone if you would ask as an innocent foreigner how his rulership was. I felt pity when l saw him retrieved from a trench flowing water and killed like a rat. His body taken to Sirte where anyone who wanted to spit on it could do as he or she likes.

5) *Idi Amin Dada*
The conqueror of Scotland and the King of the British Empire. Would shoot at his pleasure anyone suspected of not supporting him. Every soul in Uganda should quake on his sight. Bombed the whole village near Lake Victoria exercising bombing apartheid SA out of power. An estimated 600 000 people are said to have been killed through his recklessness. He was driven out of power and flew into Saudi Arabia in the Middle East where he died a lonely death. Ugandans even refused his corpse to be buried in Uganda.

6 *) Saddam Hussein*
His two sons Uday and Qusay would arrive at the middle of a wedding. Took the wedding bride. Have sex with her. Return her to the wedding gathering and tell the groom to continue with the wedding ceremony. He fumigated the minority Kurds with chemical weapons and killed 300 000 in two weeks in Northern Iraq in 1992. He killed several thousands of his opponents. He was retrieved from a hole. Bearded like an ape with USD 700 000 on hand and we all know how he died. In a hole, dirty, pathetic and sad.

Part 2 to continue tomorrow.

Former Minister Who Absconded Court In Deep Trouble.

Midlands News

Former Minister Jason Machaya

Former Midlands Province Minister of Provincial Affairs, Jason Machaya was yesterday issued with a warrant of arrest after he absconded from court, midlands news can report.

Machaya who is facing criminal abuse of office charges was yesterday issued with a warrant of arrest after he failed to appear in court as ordered by court on July 28.

Provincial Magistrate, Charity Maphosa issued the warrant of arrest in Gweru. The magistrate was expected to deliver the final judgement yesterday on a case that took more than two years to conclude.

Machaya’ legal representative, Aleck Muchadehama, last night confirmed to midlands news that indeed the court has issued a warrant of arrest against his client.

However, Muchadehama described the warrant as administrative as he indicated that the court was well aware of Machaya’ latest health condition which could not allow him to stand before the court.

“The warrant you were talking about is merely administrative. We wrote to the court advising them that our client was unable to attend court due to a medical operation.

“The court is aware that Machaya received the operation on August 8, and he needs at least 14 days to recover according to the doctors,” said Muchadehama.

Machaya faces a length jail term, if found guilty.

The former Gokwe Senator is facing allegations of unlawfully allocating and disposing of State land.

Machaya was arrested on January 3, 2018 and is out of custody on 1 000ZWL bail.

Another Provincial Magistrate, Tawenga Sangster had on July 28 further remanded Machaya to August 17 for judgement while Wadzanai Shayanewako represented the state.

Johannesburg Advocates Issue Statement Against Magistrate’s Ruling On Beatrice Mtetwa

JOHANNESBURG SOCIETY OF ADVOCATES STATEMENT ON ZIMBABWE (RULING AGAINST BEATRICE MTETWA)

19 August 2020

One week ago, the Johannesburg Society of Advocates (JSA) publicly disapproved of the conduct of the Zimbabwean Government’s crackdown on dissent and arrest over of over 60 opposition politicians, activists and journalists and a number of lawyers on a variety of nebulous charges.

Yesterday, Magistrate Ngoni Nduna of the Harare Magistrates’ Court granted an order “disqualifying” Beatrice Mtetwa from representing her client Mr Hopewell Chin’ono in his bail rehearing and directing the Prosecutor General to consider prosecuting her for contempt of court. A careful reading of the Magistrate’s ruling suggests that this was an instance of judicial overreach.

Beatrice Mtetwa is a leading Human Rights lawyer in Zimbabwe and is a longstanding friend of the Johannesburg Bar. She is highly regarded all over the world for her determined and ethical commitment to the protection of the rule of law.

In 2009, the General Council of the Bar in South Africa awarded her its Sydney and Felicia Kentridge Award for Service to Law in Southern Africa.?

In June 2020, Mr Chin’ono, a journalist, exposed a $60 million Personal Protective Equipment procurement scandal that led to the arrest and dismissal of Zimbabwe’s Minister of Health, Mr Obadiah Moyo.

Mr Chin’ono was himself subsequently arrested and charged with incitement to commit public violence, having called for peaceful, socially-distanced protests in small groups against the Government.

Magistrate Nduna refused an earlier application for bail on 24 July 2020 and an appeal against that decision was unsuccessful.

After reports emerged that Mr Chin’ono was being held in inhumane conditions and had not been allowed to consult in private (even in court) with his legal representatives including Mrs Mtetwa without police officials listening in, the High Court of Harare granted an order allowing him to consult privately and to receive warm clothing and food that meets his dietary requirements.

In making the disqualification ruling, Magistrate Nduna was at pains to note that the application was not one seeking to hold Mrs Mtetwa in contempt of court, and the ruling makes no order that Mrs Mtetwa is in contempt.

Instead, the ruling relies upon an earlier case (Smyth v Ushewokunze 1997 (2) ZLR 544 (S)) dealing with a legal principle empowering a court to disqualify a prosecutor who has failed to comply with the unique and specific duties of impartiality and detachment that apply to legal practitioners exercising that office. The same duties do not apply to ordinary legal representatives, especially those representing accused persons.

The basis of the ruling is the Facebook page of a US-based film-maker Lorie Conway entitled “Beatrice Mtetwa and the Rule of Law” which takes its name from a documentary Conway made about Mrs Mtetwa. Posts on the page state:

“Where is the outrage from the International Community that Hopewell Chin’ono is being held as a political prisoner? His life is in serious peril. Raise awareness about his unlawful imprisonment. Do not let him be forgotten. You or someone you love could be the next one abducted from your home and put in leg irons. SPEAK OUT”

Despite Mrs Mtetwa’s confirmation that she does not operate the Facebook page and has nothing to do with the comments on it, the court found that the page relates to Conway’s documentary which “was profiling [Mtetwa] and her alleged prowess in court in human rights-related cases. In a nutshell [Mtetwa) is aware of the existence of the page and approved its coming into being”. The court further found that Mtetwa therefore “[o]bviously … authorised and approved (the Facebook page’s] coming into existence.

In that breath, she acceded to posts being made on it which posts are relevant to herself. The Court observed that Mrs Mtetwa “cannot wash her hands like Pontius Pilate of the Bible”.

In addition to these findings, Magistrate Nduna considered that Mrs Mtetwa acted inappropriately in writing a letter to the court containing legal submissions, holding that “a lawyer who is professionally seized with a case does not conduct the case with such desperation.

This moment you are in court arguing the case, the next you are writing letters in bad taste and smuggling them into the record and the next you are posting on social media that the whole trial process is for political expediency and that an accused, your client, is a political prisoner and inviting the whole world to show its outrage”.

It is apparent that the Magistrate did not consider the evidence sufficient to reach the conclusion that Mrs Mtetwa was in contempt of court.

Nor is there any basis on the facts referred to in the ruling to make such a claim. The allegation that Mrs Mtetwa has committed unethical conduct should be properly investigated in accordance with fair procedures for dealing with allegations of misconduct by legal practitioners.

In view of the questionable legal and factual basis of the allegations, it is unbecoming of the prosecutors in this matter to have launched an application of this nature in circumstances where it was plainly intended to deprive an awaiting trial prisoner of legal representation by his chosen lead counsel.

Apart from the questionable factual and legal basis of the ruling, it is furthermore disappointing that concern for the rights of the accused does not appear to have featured in any way in the Magistrate’s consideration of the matter, let alone given pause for thought in extending the duties of the prosecutors to the defence counsel.

The JSA continues to stand in support of the lawyers, including Mrs Mtetwa, representing those seeking to exercise their democratic and constitutionally enshrined rights to express criticism of the Government in Zimbabwe.

It is crucial that courts and court officials should maintain their independence and impartiality in such matters and not abuse their positions or act outside of the bounds of their authority to trample on the human rights of litigants, especially arrestees.

These matters go to the heart of the rule of law and constitutional democracy.

LIVE-BREAKING: Ziyambi: Catholic Church Does Itself Injury By Criticising Govt

“Go And Form Your Own Political Parties,” Mnangagwa Hits Back At Bishops

Paul Nyathi

President Emmerson Mnangagwa

President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Wednesday refused to attend to the issues raised by the Zimbabwe Catholic Bishops Conference choosing to instead attack the Roman Catholic Church leaders claiming that they are destroying the relationship that ZANU PF has always had with the church.

Addressing the Zanu PF politburo meeting, President Mnangagwa said such a relationship was pivotal to national development.

“Zanu PF has a close relationship with the Church, dating back to the days of the liberation struggle. In the post independence period, we continued to work well. Going forwards, we remain committed to working well with the church to advance the national development agenda, as a united people,” he said.

President Mnangagwa castigated the church leaders accusing them of meddling in the political affairs of the country and challenged them to remove their religious robes and form political parties.

“However it is most unfortunate when men of the cloth begin to use the pulpit to advance a nefarious agenda for detractors of our country. Those who want to enter the political realm are welcome to do so. They must come out and form political parties. As Zanu PF we are ready for the 2023 elections,” he said.

Lazio Blast David Silva For Snubbing Contract Offer

David Silva

Italian Serie A club Lazio has slammed David Silva following his move to Real Sociedad in the La Liga from Manchester City.

The forward’s free transfer was confirmed on Tuesday after ending his decade-long stay at the EPL side.

The deal, however, angered Lazio’s sporting director Igli Tare who said that he has lost respect for the player because he misled his club when they were in talks of a possible transfer.

Italian media reported that Lazio had offered Silva a three-year contract worth 10 million euros ($11.94 million).

“I’ve heard about David Silva’s transfer to Real Sociedad. I have huge respect for the player but not for the man,”Tare said in a statement.

Silva’s father, Fernando Jimenez, defended the midfielder, saying Lazio had only spoken to his agent and that the former Spain international had not committed to moving to Italy.

“There were conversations with Lazio, just like there were with Real Sociedad or other teams. There was nothing finalised,” he told Radio Marca.-Soccer 24
