Aubameyang Leads Black Lives Matter Campaign

LONDON. — Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta revealed the club’s gesture for the Black Lives Matter movement was masterminded by star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The Gunners warmed up before their friendly against Brentford at the Emirates Stadium wearing T-shirts in support of the campaigning against racial injustice, sparked by the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, USA.

The Arsenal stars wore various different shirts, with some that read:

‘’My skin is not a crime,’’ ‘’I stand with you’’ and ‘’I can’t breathe’’ — the same words spoken by Floyd when he was being held to the ground by a police officer before he died.

Hector Bellerin’s warm-up T-shirt said: ‘’I’m not black but I stand with you’’ on the front, whilst Arteta wore a shirt that read: ‘’We stand in solidarity.’’

The Spanish boss later revealed that the powerful gesture from the North London club was Aubameyang’s idea, as he called him up before their friendly match against the Championship side.
‘’The thing that I like most is that it came from them,’’ Arteta told Sky Sports.
‘’I got a phone call from the captain asking to do that.

I spoke with the club straight away and we were very clear that we wanted to support their intentions, everyone collaborated, we created the shirt.

‘’It was a really strong message and it is more powerful because it comes from them. They think they have to support these types of causes.’’

The players also took a knee before the match began, a gesture in support of the BLM movement that has also been observed in the Bundesliga.

Jadon Sancho and Marcus Thuram have been two leading figures in using their platform to support that campaigning for change.

The Gunners were then shocked by Brentford at the Emirates, as the Championship side beat Arteta’s men 3-2 – leaving the Premier League side with much work to do one week before their return to action against second-placed Manchester City.

Arteta fielded a strong team in the Brentford defeat as Joe Willock gave Arsenal the lead just before half-time.

Mesut Ozil was among the Gunners stars that came on in the second half as the Bees made it 1-1 with 20 minutes left in the match- The Herald /Sky News

Murderer Jailed For Life

A MAN who waylaid two lovers in Bulawayo while they were out for an evening stroll before striking them with a brick resulting in one the victims succumbing to the injuries has been sentenced to life imprisonment.

Munyaradzi Nyoni (41) whose residential address was not given, struck Mr Tinashe Nemakonde (23) and his girlfriend Ms Sibonisiwe Mpofu and they both lost consciousness.

He robbed them of a bag containing three cellphones, $3, two exercise books and a national identity card.

Ms Mpofu later regained consciousness and fled from the scene leaving her boyfriend who was later taken to Mpilo Central Hospital where he succumbed to the injuries.

Nyoni was convicted of murder with actual intent by Bulawayo High Court judge Justice Martin Makonese.

In passing sentence, Justice Makonese condemned his conduct, saying he was driven by greed to commit the crime.

“The accused person committed a very serious offence. This matter was committed in aggravating circumstances and it was premeditated and carried out in pursuant of a robbery,” he said.

“It is sad that lives continue to be lost as a result of robbers who attack their victims to steal gadgets such as cellphones, which they go on to sell for as little as $30. The accused person attacked his victims viciously and with extreme brutality.”

Justice Makonese said the courts have a duty to protect the sanctity of human life through passing deterrent sentences.

“These courts would fail in their duty to protect the sanctity of human life if lenient sentences were imposed where life is callously and needlessly lost.

The sentence should reflect the seriousness of the offence,” he said.

The judge said Nyoni escaped the death sentence because he admitted attacking the deceased.

Prosecuting, Mr Trust Muduma said on September 25 in 2018 at around 9PM, Ms Mpofu and her lover were taking a stroll on a footpath near Magwegwe Water Reservoir when the accused person spotted them from a distance.

He waylaid the two lovers and when they got closer, he hit the deceased with a brick on the head and he fell down and lost consciousness.

“The accused person then threatened the deceased’s girlfriend and ordered her to sit down. He ordered her to search her boyfriend’s pockets but she found nothing,” he said.

The court heard that Nyoni hit Mpofu with a brick twice on the head and she fell down unconscious.

Nyoni took Mpofu’s handbag containing a Huawei cellphone, Mobicel Tablet, $3 and two exercise books.
He also took the deceased’s Nokia cellphone and his satchel.

“Mpofu regained consciousness and managed to run away leaving the accused person still attacking the deceased with a brick,” said Mr Muduma.

Mpofu reported the matter to the police and an ambulance came and took Nemakonde to Mpilo Central Hospital where he later died-Chronicle

Man Poisons Own Dad

A Gokwe man poisoned his father whom he accused of causing misfortune in his life.

Justine Chakauya (28) of Village 15A, Musadzi Village, Chireya in Gokwe, was arraigned before a Gokwe magistrate facing a murder charge after he poisoned his father Benias Chakauya.

Gokwe magistrate Musaiona Shortgame remanded him in custody and advised him to apply for bail at the High Court.

Prosecuting, Liberty Chimwaradze told the court that Chakauya approached a traditional healer and told him that his father was causing misfortune in his life and he was hindering him from amassing wealth.

The traditional healer, the court heard, gave the accused a concoction which he went and put into his father’s drink. Upon consuming the laced drink, the now deceased fell unconscious, bleeding from the mouth and nose.

He was rushed to Gokwe Hospital where he died upon admission. Chakauya was arrested and arraigned before the courts.

The accused left the court dumbfounded after pleading guilty to the offence and telling the court he did it because his father was behind his misfortune.

“I do admit to the charges of causing the death of my father.

I did it out of frustration because he was the one who was causing all the misfortunes I have been experiencing in my life,” he told the court.
He said he never thought the concoction would kill his father.

“I was just taking the advice of a healer who gave me the poison which I then administered to my father resulting in his death.

I never thought it would kill him, I just thought I was muthi that would make me rich,” he told the court-B-Metro

“Don’t Blame Opposition For The Crisis In Zim”

Farai Dziva|MDC Alliance leader, Advocate Nelson Chamisa has said Emmerson Mnangagwa must not blame the opposition for the crisis in the country.

Zimbabwe is facing a man-made governance crisis, according to Chamisa.

“The solidarity is much appreciated CIC.Zimbabwe is facing a man-made governance crisis characterized by egregious corruption, looting and institutionalized violence. We are comforted by this fluent language of brotherhood and sisterhood. One Africa..One fight against corruption,” Chamisa wrote on Twitter.

He was commenting on Julius Malema’s message on the chaos in Zimbabwe:

“We applaud the fight against corruption and looting of public funds going on in Zimbabwe. It is cruel and evil for anyone regardless of who they are to steal money meant to help citizens fight Covid-19. There is nothing revolutionary or patriotic about thieving. Pasi neMbavha,” Malema tweeted.

Chamisa also denounced the harassment of legal practitioners:

“Adv Sylvester Hashiti today became one the latest casualties of a state crackdown on lawyers as he was arrested and granted a $10000 bail over a charge of criminal nuisance. As usual, the charge is frivolous!Brilliant lawyers must be allowed to freely practice in their profession!”

I’m Losing My Mind: Killer’s Dad

Dad and son (killer)

The father of a 20-year-old man who allegedly killed a 25-year-old woman in Bulawayo, dismembered the body and put the remains in a drum filled with acid, yesterday opened up about the grisly ritual murder.

Tawana Ngwenya was arrested in Harare on Thursday as a suspect in the brutal killing of Ms Thabelo Mazolo.

Her body was cut in half and the lower part has not been located. The breasts and palms had been sliced off.

The rest of the body was stashed in a drum in a toilet at a guest house where she worked and lived with Tawana and his father Mr Buzwani Ngwenya (60) who was the caretaker.

The community around Fortunes Gate in Matsheumhlophe where the murder occurred continues to express disbelief and horror at the callous killing.

Tawana allegedly acted on the instructions of a South Africa-based sangoma to kill Mazolo, so he could get rich.

Colleagues alleged they saw a message on his phone instructing him how to sell his soul for riches in a blood ritual that involved killing and mutilating Mazolo.

It is suspected Mazolo could have been killed between 29 May and 1 June when she went missing.

On 1 June Mr Ngwenya received a message from Mazolo’s phone informing him she would be away for a week.

Tawana fled to Harare on Tuesday when his father continued asking him about Mazolo’s whereabouts.

Mazolo’s uncle Mr Benny Moyo yesterday said she would be buried at her rural home in Zhombe tomorrow.

“The family will discuss the way forward in Zhombe,” said Mr Moyo. Tawana is expected in the city today to assist police with investigations.

The elderly Mr Ngwenya yesterday said the day he heard his son could have committed the heinous act destroyed him.

“He was a quiet young man and seemed to be in good books with Thabelo. She would call him for assistance whenever she was in town on business. They appeared to get along very well. I’m crushed to learn he could have killed her in this beastly manner,” said Mr Ngwenya.

He said he has been seated at a shopping centre in the city the whole day as he could not process what his son had done.

“I am afraid to even approach Thabelo’s family but we obviously have to meet over this at some time. I need some respectable people to accompany me to talk to them. These people have been very good to us.

“I do not know what evil spirit possessed him to do this,” said Mr Ngwenya.

“Imagine we were looking for her and he was assisting us yet he could have known she was already dead. I feel like I’m losing my mind.”

He said his son had few friends and he could not imagine which one of them had initiated him into satanic rituals to kill people.

Neighbours said Tawana was soft spoken, polite and always smartly dressed.

They said there was nothing in his behaviour that showed he was capable of hurting another person.

“He was a smart formal dresser. He never wore casual stuff like jeans. He worked at a company that sells chemicals and was known for selling detergents in the area. He looked like a focused young man. I cannot believe he committed this cold-blooded killing. I guess the quiet ones always shock us,” said a neighbour on condition of anonymity.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube yesterday said investigations were still in progress.

“The suspect will be here tomorrow to assist with further investigations,” he said. Tawana did his O-levels at Allan Wilson High School in Harare.

He was said to be an average student who stayed out of trouble. — Chronicle/state media

Mliswa Rules Out Possibility Of A Coup In Zim

Farai Dziva|Outspoken Norton MP Temba Mliswa has declared that Emmerson Mnangagwa will complete his current term despite heightening political tension.

Mliswa also said Mnangagwa would certainly seek another term in 2023.

According to MDC Alliance Zimbabwe’ s economic challenges emanate from the legitimacy crisis in the country.

MDC Alliance leader, Nelson Chamisa insists Mnangagwa rigged the 2018 Presidential plebiscite.

According to Mliswa, there will never be a coup in Zimbabwe.

“One thing I can assure the people of Zimbabwe is that there will never be a coup in Zimbabwe because in the first instance there was never a coup.
It was an impeachment as I always say.

@edmnangagwa
is there for his 5 year term and will seek another in 2023. It’s unfortunate that he is on his own as his footsoldiers are not working and 90% of Ministers are not performing. The cylinders are not firing and there is too much corruption too. Time is ticking and they need to change.

The judiciary’s gear seems to have moved up but still there is need to do more. Mai Mupfumira has been relieved of her duties following the NSSA scandal and as for Killer Zivhu, he has many people crying over the money they lost through his housing project,” argued Mliswa.

He added :”No one will miss Killer Zivhu in Parliament because he never contributed. Not even once. Not even to thank his constituency. You can check the Hansard. What kind of MP is that?? Good riddance.”

Village Head Snubs Funeral Over Two Goats, Chicken

By A Correspondent- Mourners in Gokwe were left shocked after one of their community leaders refused to attend the burial of their fellow villager, and demanded two goats and two chickens.

According to a source, village head Finias Chalisegera refused to attend both the funeral wake and burial of his subject Barnabas Mabhara saying he did not belong to his village. As a result, the source said, he ordered the family to pay him two goats and two chickens for him to attend.

The incident which has become a topical issue among community members happened last week on Thursday.

A brother to the deceased, Herbert, said mourners were left shocked how a community leader could demand to be paid to attend a funeral.

“My younger brother and a relative got sick while they were in Beitbridge. We went to fetch them. Unfortunately he (Barnabas) got seriously ill and died last week on Wednesday and was buried on Friday. It’s shocking as it defies logic because in our culture when a person dies we make a report to the local leadership and that was done but we got the shock of our lives as our very own village head told us that he would not attend because my younger brother did not belong to his village.”

He added: “Everyone in the community knows that my younger brother was born and raised here. He (Chalisegera) just came and stood outside the gate and made his demand which we turned down as a family.”

Chalisegera said:

“Who told you about that? That issue is in the hands of headman Nyambiya and it would be wiser for you to contact him.”

Fanuel Mhike who is the secretary to headman Nyambiya confirmed: “The incident happened and a family filed a report. I’m yet to meet with headman Nyambiya for the way forward.”

Govt Reacts To UN Rights Violations Statement

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwean government has dismissed claims by the United Nations that authorities were the perpetrators of human rights violations in the country.

UN human rights experts including the special rapporteur on torture and other cruel, inhuman treatment or punishment, Nils Melzer and special rapporteur on the promotion and protection of the right to freedom of opinion and expression Clement Nyaletsossi Voule, who visited Zimbabwe in September last year, accused the government of targeting activists.

In response to the claims, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Nick Mangwana said:

We are observing human rights and investigating any case of disappearances including staged ones. We have never stopped anyone from coming to observe anything in this country since the inception of the new dispensation.

But I guess they have already arrived at their pre-emptive conclusions so they will have to overcome a lot of confirmation bias challenges.

The UN’s comments come when the government is accused of using security agents to abduct, torture and sexually assault Joana Mamombe, Cecilia Chimbiri and Netsai Marova, all MDC Alliance officials.

Government officials claim the alleged abduction was staged to taint the image of the government.

Man Barred From Wife’s Bedroom For 36months

By A Correspondent- A Bulawayo man who was accused by his wife of allegedly deriving pleasure in making love to her by force, with the wife apparently thinking every forced sex act on her could be her last, was on Friday last week sternly ordered by the court not to forcibly enter her bedroom for the next 36 months.

Anne Chiradza who was allegedly repeatedly sexually abused by her husband Obey Chiradza revealed to the court the level of sexual and emotional abuse she was suffering at the hands of her husband.

Anne, who chillingly claimed she lost her sight as a result of her husband’s emotional abuse, told presiding magistrate Nomsa Ncube who was sitting at the Bulawayo Civil Court that Obey was also evicting her from their matrimonial house.

“I have been married to Obey Chiradza since May 2018 and we have no children together. A year after our marriage, he started abusing me verbally and, on some occasions, he sexually harassed me.

“I reported these acts of violence twice to the police and we were only counselled. As a result of his continuous abusive behaviour I am now seeking a protection order against him,” said Anne.

She insisted that her husband should not enter her bedroom while adding that the abuse worsened after she lost her sight.

“In December last year I lost my eyesight and the violence perpetrated by the respondent against me worsened. He sacked me from his company as one of the directors.

“He also stopped providing for me financially and he is also threatening to evict me from our house. This now affects my health and I always have chronic headaches. Furthermore, the respondent is refusing to pay my medical bills.”

In his defence, Obey, an accountant with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education and based at Mhlahlandlela Government Complex in Bulawayo, asked the court to grant a reciprocal order.

“In light of the fact that our marriage has crumbled, I felt it prudent that the protection order be reciprocal and binding to both parties,” he said.

In her ruling the magistrate granted a reciprocal order compelling both parties not to sexually harass, utter threats of violence and forcibly enter each other bedrooms for the next 36 months.

Man Who Scared Away An Investor Refused Bail

By A Correspondent- A Bindura resident Fradreck Utsiwegota who is serving a seven-year jail term for scaring away an investor before duping him of mining equipment worth US$500 000 has been denied bail pending his appeal against sentence and conviction at the High Court.

He was convicted of swindling a Singapore investor, Ramason Bupendra of mine machinery worth US$500 000.

Bindura provincial magistrate Mr Tinashe Ndokera ruled that there are no prospects of success in the appeal.

He added that his sentenced was based on the nature of the offence, quantity of the goods stolen and the effect to the investment and not on the monitory value.

Fradreck Utsiwegota (38) was initially sentenced to 10 years in prison before Provincial magistrate Mr Tinashe Ndokera suspended three years on condition that in the next five years he does not commit a similar offence.

The anti-corruption court heard that On July 5, 2012 Utsiwegota and Bupendra registered Decade Mining (Pvt) Limited and both become directors.

Bupendra left for Singapore in July 2013 and left Utsiwegota in charge of the company assets and day to day running of the business.

Utsiwegota continuously discouraged Bupendra to return to Zimbabwe saying the political situation was bad. He came back last year after President Mnangagwa won the 2018 elections.

Upon his return, Bupendra found the mine deserted.

Mnangagwa Addresses The Nation On Coronavirus Lockdown Going Forward

My Fellow Zimbabweans.
On 16 May 2020, I made my COVID-19 Update Statement, wherein I announced that Zimbabwe would continue on the Level 2 lockdown for an indefinite period. I further committed that the situation would be reviewed at regular intervals. Hence my address today.
Allow me to begin with a word of gratitude. Thank you all for your patience; thank you for your perseverance.

Over the last few months, you have been burdened with a truly heavy task. This is not an ordinary period in our history. A new normal has emerged. For the first time, we have asked you NOT to go to work, NOT to see your families, and to keep your distance from each other. This is the very opposite of the Zimbabwean way which is characterised by warmth and closeness. The vast majority of Zimbabweans have acted selflessly, and with great responsibility.

Like a country in wartime, you put your nation first and put aside individual needs and rights.
You understood that the battle against this deadly virus which has taken hundreds of thousands of lives around the world, is an existential threat; one which is of the proportion of a conventional war.

My fellow Zimbabweans, you came together. You stood strong and united. The resolve you continue to demonstrate is admirable, and for this, I thank you most sincerely. You protected your loved ones, you protected the people of Zimbabwe. Your actions to date have saved many lives.

As we continue returning to work, we must once again refocus, recalibrate and revamp. Let us recall that Zimbabwe was in the midst of deep and broad reforms. We were reforming distortions which have bedevilled our economy for decades. We were reforming the old, creating the new, and building stronger foundations for a more prosperous Zimbabwe.

We began to reform our economic landscape as well as our political space and media space; by removing antiquated laws and opening up new channels for dialogue and debate.

Unfortunately, just as Zimbabwe was opening up both internally and externally, we were forced, like much of the world, to close. To close our societies, to close our markets, to close our borders.

Ladies and Gentlemen, brothers and sisters, fellow Zimbabweans.

Zimbabwe must once again be open. The freedoms we promised at the outset of the new dispensation must once again be felt across the whole of our society.
Freedom of assembly.
Freedoms of speech and religion.
Freedom to vote in free and open elections.
Freedom to flourish.

Likewise, the creation of jobs, the commitment to new opportunities for our talented youth, must once again be driven to the top of our agenda.
We cannot and will not allow the period of COVID-19 to appear in our history books as anything more than a mere hurdle which we jumped over along the path to prosperity.

As your President, I commit that we will work twice as hard, work with promise and purpose, to improve your lives, and to give your children a better future. It is time to accelerate our development. From the pains of the pandemic, we must now find new impetus in rebuilding. The liberalisation of our economy must continue in earnest. This includes the privatisation of bloated state industries which must now be expedited. Investment commitments must now be turned into tangible jobs. Our creative people must be allowed to grow and prosper.

Reforms, stuck in the wheels of bureaucracy, must be unleashed, catalysed and implemented. The time for action is now. However, as the workforce is slowly released from a painful lockdown, let us remember that we are not returning to the old normal, but to a very NEW normal which must cause each and every one of us to rethink our lives. How we communicate, how we do business, how we meet and greet, and how we protect the health of our neighbours, our family, and indeed ourselves.

In this new normal, we must be vigilant. We must not rest. The virus is still with us. It has neither disappeared nor been destroyed. It has neither vanished nor been vanquished; it lives amongst us. So please act with caution. Wear a mask at all times when you are outside your homes.

Don’t cough into your hands and maintain social distance wherever possible. Do not spend time in enclosed spaces with strangers, and ensure that windows are open in workspaces. Wash or sanitize your hands regularly and thoroughly.

This may seem rudimentary, but these small acts may just save the life of your grandmother or grandfather, brother or sister, mother or father, friend or co-worker; even your own life.

This will not last forever. We will – someday – return to the warm ways of Zimbabwe once again. However, the status-quo and the immediate future demand our active diligence.

Let us influence and educate each other, and our friends and family on how to minimise the risks of infection. The virus must be kept in check. Only with strict discipline can we fully get back on course towards building a functioning, modern and prosperous economy.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank my Executive team which continues to steer this economic ship through the roughest waters Zimbabwe has ever seen in the recent past.
Droughts, cyclones, a global economic downturn, in addition to a pandemic which the world had not witnessed in a century. These are hardly the conditions in which to implement tough spending cuts and deep structural economic reforms. But we have no choice. If we do not reform now, we will continue to drown in debt or peddle along in mediocrity. Zimbabweans deserve better. Zimbabwe deserves better.

Although our lockdown remains at Level 2, let us begin to further open up, remembering that we all have a role to play. Government, hand in hand with an empowered private sector, will do all in its power to open up the economy, to provide the jobs and the opportunities the people of Zimbabwe so richly deserve.

Under this review, we recognise that the current spike in the number of positive cases, requires that we take a more cautious approach in relaxing the lockdown restrictions.

As such, the following adjustments to the lockdown are made:
1–All our people in the informal sector, who have not formally registered themselves or their enterprises, are directed to do so forthwith. Once they can prove that such registration has been made, they can resume their operations. Upon resuming their work, they are compelled to adhere to the laid down COVID-19 prevention requirements, such as the wearing of masks, washing or sanitization of hands and social distancing;
2–Gathering for purposes of worship must remain at a maximum of fifty and in full compliance with all the COVID-19 prevention measures;
3–People are urged to travel when it is absolutely necessary; And
4–The moratorium on rent payment, made during the early phases of the lockdown is hereby lifted. Rent arrears can be settled in instalments spread over a period of six months.

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe is grateful for the support we continue to receive in our fight against the pandemic, from both internal institutions and organisations, as well as from external governments, institutions and other development partners. I am happy to announce that we have once again received a considerable consignment of PPEs and other materials from the People’s Republic of China. We remain grateful to His Excellency President Xi Jinping, and the Government and People of China for their solidarity and support.

I would like to applaud and congratulate the African Union, through the AU Bureau, for the innovative tech-driven strategies that have been developed to ensure equitable and affordable access to all materials related to the prevention and fight against the COVID-19. We further commend the continued calls by the African Union member states for the lifting of sanctions against our country.

Finally, I exhort all the people of Zimbabwe to adapt to the new normal with a new, positive attitude. We are a determined, hardworking people. A people who know how to work closely and cooperatively. United in peace and harmony, we shall overcome.

God bless you all.
God bless Zimbabwe.
I thank you.

Drama As Woman Is Busted Getting Cozy With Married Man

By A Correspondent- The public was treated to a dramatic incident last week on Saturday when a skimpily dressed woman bolted out of a car clutching her handbag after she was caught cuddling a married man.

The dramatic “movie” which entertained onlookers for more than 10 minutes occurred at around 7pm in the vicinity of corner 6th Avenue and Herbert Chitepo Street.

The fuming woman who was only identified as MaNgwe shouted that she caught “a hooker” Natasha Ncube kissing her husband Thembani Ngwenya.

In a fit of rage, the angry woman turned her husband, who was visibly drunk, into a punching bag and left him rolling and wailing for help on the ground.

As he yelled in agony, onlookers cheered and urged her to mete out more punishment.

This will force you to stop bragging that you are a ladies man. Today you got the taste of your own medicine and this is will make you correct your stinking ways. Now you are bleeding awuyangeki (are you not ashamed),” a woman shouted with a high-pitched voice.

In between sobs MaNgwe told this publication that one of her friends who also sells wares in the vicinity informed her that her husband was having a nice time with Natasha.

“A friend of mine who sells soft drinks here told me that my husband was taking alcohol with Natasha and with a lady known as Ntando. I had to rush here to confront her because I feared that she would wreck my marriage. I was shocked when I found them (Thembani and Natasha) kissing and fondling each other,” said the heart-broken MaNgwe.

She added:

“Quite often I have stumbled on sexually suggestive WhatsApp messages which Natasha exchanged with my husband. In one of the messages the pair were negotiating for a sex session. When I confronted my husband about it he said Natasha was in the habit of following him.”

Thembani refused to talk to the news crew as he got into his car and drove away.

Zimbabwean Govt Dismisses UN Claims

The Zimbabwean government has dismissed claims by the United Nations that authorities were the perpetrators of human rights violations in the country.

“We are observing human rights and investigating any case of disappearances including staged ones. We have never stopped anyone from coming to observe anything in this country since the inception of the new dispensation. But I guess they have already arrived at their pre-emptive conclusions so they will have to overcome a lot of confirmation bias challenges.”

The UN’s comments come when the government is accused of using security agents to abduct, torture and sexually assault Joana Mamombe, Cecilia Chimbiri and Netsai Marova, all MDC Alliance officials.

Government officials claim the alleged abduction was staged to taint the image of the government.

MDC Trio To Spend Weekend In Custody

Own Correspondent

The three MDC Alliance youth leaders including legislator Joana Mamombe who made the headlines alleging being abducted after staging a demo in Harare’s Warren park suburb will spend the weekend behind bars pending bail ruling on Monday.

The trio was arrested on allegations of publishing false statements.

Joana Mamombe, Cecilia Chimbiri and Netsai Marova were remanded in custody to the 15th of this month pending bail ruling when they appeared in court this Friday facing charges of Publishing or communicating allegedly false statements and an alternative charge of defeating or obstructing the course of justice.

The state is opposing bail in a case where the three allegedly staged an abduction and published false statements.

The state represented by Charles Muchemwa told the court that the trio are a flight risk and are facing a serious charge that attracted attention and statements were made regarding the alleged abduction to the whole world.

Representing the trio Jeremiah Bhamu queried the manner in which they were arrested arguing that the three should be granted bail.

On 13th of May the trio and other MDC-Alliance youths gathered in Warren Park where they staged a demonstration and on the same date the trio later communicated with their lawyers, family members and friends that they had been arrested by police and held at ZRP Harare Central.

Their legal practitioner reported to the CID law and order inquiring on the arrest of the three only to find out after verifications that the accused had not been arrested.

Two days later, their legal representative contacted the police informing them that the accused persons were found at Muchapondwa Business Centre in Bindura.
The police and the legal representatives went to the scene and collected the accused persons before taking them for medical examinations at a hospital in Waterfalls.

The trio were interviewed and made statements that they had been abducted by members of the police.

Govt Increases Maize Subsidy To Millers But Maintains Price Of Roller Meal At $70/10Kgs

ZBC

THE government has increased the subsidy it was giving the grain millers to allow the price of mealie meal to remain at ZWL$70.
In a statement released by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, a 10 kg of mealie meal will remain at ZWL$70 while the government will review upwards the subsidy to millers from ZWL$73.90 to ZWL$216.15.

“Cognisant of the COVID-19 pandemic, the government is committed to ensure that the prices of basic commodities, especially maize roller meal, should remain within the reach of the vulnerable,” read the statement.

The subsidy on maize meal was restored by President Emmerson Mnangagwa in November last year to ensure citizens have access to cheaper basic foodstuffs and cushion them against the obtaining economic challenges.

The government has also moved to subsidise the transport sector by capacitaing Zupco to provide an affordable transport system in both urban and rural areas after having realised that the private commuter operators had hiked fares beyond the reach of ordinary citizens.

Obert Mpofu Throws Matemadanda Under The Bus

Nehanda Radio

Obert Mpofu
Obert Mpofu

Zanu PF secretary for administration Obert Mpofu has thrown the ruling party National Political Commissar, Victor Matemadanda under the bus by supporting Douglas Mahiya’s launch of the War Veterans’ League without notifying the commissariat.

Recently, Matemadanda slammed Zanu PF secretary for war veterans, Mahiya for rushing to organise the meeting without consulting the party’s structures.

In a video seen by Nehanda Radio on Zanu PF’s Facebook page, Mpofu contradicted Matemadanda by welcoming, as a positive development, the launching of the war veterans’ league by Mahiya.

“I also want to acknowledge war veterans wing Cde Mahiya in conjunction with Mashonaland Central Politburo members, central committee members and honourable ministers from that province for the restructuring of the War Veterans Committee at the historic Atlanta Farm in Muzarabani of which (Richard) Chirongwe was appointed,” Mpofu said.

War veterans played a crucial role in the rise of President Emmerson Mnangagwa as they publicly supported the military intervention that removed the late former president Robert Mugabe from power in November 2017.

War Vets Secretary General Victor Matemadanda
Victor Matemadanda

The clash between the two Zanu PF top leaders is a manifestation of serious squabbles in the ruling party.

The Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA) provincial chairpersons had earlier slammed Mahiya for launching the league without consulting the party’s constitution.

“We are extremely surprised to note that Mahiya decides to rush to launch the league even before the party constitution has been amended to accommodate that. From the start, decisions or the establishment of the league were done without consulting veterans of the liberation struggle.

“The league formation was just rushed through the Politburo, central committee and (2019 Zanu PF) conference (in Goromonzi) without consulting stakeholders,” read the statement by ZNLWVA.

These squabbles in the ruling Zanu PF also come at a point when Mnangagwa’s under-fire government recently, issued a chilling threat against exiled former minister Saviour Kasukuwere and outspoken MDC Alliance Vice Chairman and MP Job Sikhala for allegedly peddling what they called “false” claims of an imminent coup in the country.

“I Don’t Understand Why South African Government And The African Union Are Supporting The Zimbabwean Govt,” South African Trade Unionist

Own Correspondent

Blessings Ramoba

President of the South Africa Mining Forum Blessings Ramoba says he doesn’t understand why the South African government and African Union is supporting Zimbabwe.

Ramoba says former President Thabo Mbeki should have listened to then British Prime Minister Tony Blair, to assist Britain government to remove the late former President of Zimbabwe Robert Mugabe.

In 2013 President Mbeki alleged that the former British prime minister pressured him to join a “regime change scheme” as Zimbabwe plunged into a political and economic crisis in the early 2000s. But the claim was strongly denied by Blair’s office.

Taking it to Twitter the President of SAMF, Ramoba tweets with his official Twitter account,

“I don’t understand why the South African @GovernmentZA and the African Union are supporting the Zimbabwean Zanu PF regime. If President Thabo Mbeki had listened to Prime Minister Tony Blair and intervened during the Robert Mugabe era,Zimbabwe would have been a better place today. Tony Blair had asked President Thabo Mbeki to intervene through military and to remove Mugabe,” says Ramoba.

Ramoba added that Zimbabwe is suffering because of the consequences of former President Mugabe.

“This was a justified cause, today is evident Robert Mugabe is dead, Zimbabwe is still suffering the consequences of his rule and the same people who were with him are in power today. The consequences of Zimbabwe’s ZanuPF regime impacts the South African economy very negatively.Six million Zimbabweans have fled the country and many fled to South Africa illegally. The humanitarian crisis has deepened in Zimbabwe. The land they grabbed from Whites is lying fallow,” adds Ramoba.

Mbeki later helped broker a power sharing agreement between Mugabe’s Zanu-PF party and the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) following a violent election in 2008 that cost at least 200 lives. But he was strongly criticised by the MDC for siding with Mugabe and devising a “conspiracy” to divide and weaken the opposition.

Mugabe remained the only leader Zimbabwe has known since it gained independence from Britain in 1980. In 2017 the Zimbabwean army led a coup that saw Mugabe forced to resign as President of Zimbabwe.

“Guard Against Looting Of COVID-19 Funds”: MPs Told

By A Correspondent- The Speaker of Parliament Advocate Jacob Mudenda has called on legislators to ensure the accountability of funds mobilised to fight the coronavirus pandemic.

He made the remarks while officially opening the Liaison and Coordination Committee retreat this Friday in Bulawayo.

Mudenda said:

Parliament business was affected by the Covid-19 pandemic while the pandemic has also affected economies globally.

Parliament still has a role to play in coming up with mitigatory measures of the devastating pandemic. You are also expected to call for accountability for the mobilised finances and resource materials for the Covid-19 pandemic.

His remarks come when there are reports suggesting that some government officials and departments abused funds meant for fighting the pandemic.

Some government officials were reportedly demanding COVID-19 allowances while some authorised illogical deals which saw the country losing millions of dollars.

George Guvamatanga, the permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development and the Health Minister, Dr Obadiah Moyo are some of the government officials implicated in shoddy transactions that reportedly fleeced the country of the COVID-19 funds.

Remembering Dr Nic Ndebele: An Epitome Of Sacrifice, Love And Care.

Exactly one year today since the departure of one finest medical practitioner in Bulawayo, Dr Nikela Nicholas Ndebele, Bulawayo, Zimbabwe and indeed the medical fraternity feel and suffer the huge vacuum he left behind.

Dr Ndebele’s passion for his duties and love for his people was unwavering and boundless, which made him a friend of every family in Bulawayo and beyond as he touched souls while doing his work.

The late doctor, who was also ZAPU National Secretary for Health since the pullout from the failed and defunct 1987 Unity Accord with Zanu PF, is deeply missed especially as the country grapples with fear and uncertainty over the Corona virus pandemic which has not spared the people he so loved and cared for in Bulawayo.

His skills, wise advice and counsel on medical matters becomes, in his absence, the missing link in the successful fight against the world pandemic, which comes just at that moment the country is being run by clueless coupists whose only area of competence and  effectiveness is corruption, plunder and rights abuses.

Today the citizens watch in horror as Covid19 donations disappear through funneling into criminal looters’ accounts known by name and address. The impunity with which this happens is sure to surprise and infuriate  even the long departed such as Dr Ndebele, who would never in his life advance personal wealth ahead of the poor and impoverished citizens.

The disregard of standard health precautions of the collective citizenry by the government today over selfish political and tyrannical ends such as the continued outreach program on constitutional ammendment bills in the face of rising infections rates makes us miss the wisdom in Dr Ndebele.

The government, insensitive and deliberately oblivious to the risks to which our people are being exposed to clearly misses the wise counsel of professional Healthcare practitioners of Dr Ndebele’s stature. To him, the people, their safety and medical well being always came before any personal ambitions.

We are certain had he been around today, Dr Ndebele would have joined us in demanding full accountability for all Covid19 funds, in demanding that the perpetrators of the daylight heist of the said funds be brought to justice.
Dr Ndebele would have called for humane and proper management of quarantine centres and process for returning citizens, who often have suffered abuse, neglect and at times outright rights abuses by the state.

The ethically upright Dr Ndebele would by now have called on the state to suspend the ongoing so called outreach and consultations on constitutional amendments. He would by now have instead advised the clueless government for concentration of efforts on fighting and mitigating the Corona pandemic.

Surely, Dr Ndebele’s wisdom would have come in handy in making the ever misprioritizing government aware that there is no urgency in the amendment exercise for it only serves personal ambitions of the incumbents of state power while exposing the masses to infection, at the time the Healthcare system of the country is in comatose due to neglect and looting and unable to deal with the slightest of an outbreak.

Dr Ndebele, who showed the way by running, with others,  successfully and ethically, the Galen House hospital institution, would have continued with his long call for prioritization of provision of  sustainable, accessible and patient friendly Healthcare infrastructure in the country.

The state of hospitals, personnel and equipment in the medical sector has always worried the good doctor and he always dreamt of a time when the government would for once really consider the people in its approach. We always have  imagined and wished the Ministry of Health in Zimbabwe was run by skilled and  knowledgeable health professionals like Dr Nic Ndebele, who had the health and welfare of Zimbabweans at heart.

It is a pity, however, that instead of considering competency, skills and qualification, the country missed out on such opportunity to patronage, nepotism and cadre deployment that is norm in the current dispensation. A lot of skilled potential, which is abound in the country, such as Dr Ndebele, is lost to this barbaric and primitive way of appointing by those in state administration.

The honorable Dr Ndebele, whose love for children was unmatched, would today question the logic, feasibility and wisdom in a rushed reopening of schools in the country. He would have been sure to ask if the system is really ready and prepared for the influx of children and teachers into schools, whether the schools environment was capable of providing safety and protection against infections and reinfections.

Dr Ndebele would have asked for guarantees that indeed the schools system is prepared for reopening, handling and be responsible for our children’s safety and well being. It however is not a secret the system is unprepared especially with teachers raising genuine grievances of underpayment and poor working conditions.

As such, we are certainly sure had he been around today Dr Ndebele would have called for a different approach that ensures safety and wellbeing of both children and educators.

Our country misses citizens like the late Dr Ndebele, whose life was a secrifice for both liberation, development of the country and its people and such fine citizens  should instead be here with us as we seek answers and strategies to pluck the country out from the mess currently unfolding, especially in the provision of a sustainable  accessible Healthcare.

A liberation war fighter during  Rhodesia, a military service man in Zimbabwe and a medical doctor all his adult life, Dr Ndebele gave all his life to serving other people, remaining ethically upright throughout right to the end.

The pretenders in government of Zimbabwe must pluck a leaf from this honorable man and learn how to and what it means to be of service to one’s people.

As we commemorate a year since this illustrous son of the soil took a bow, let us celebrate the goodness of his kind and benevolent heart, a heart that was unusually big and readily was shared by every family in Bulawayo and beyond, while at the same time giving unconditional service to our people, especially the downtrodden as Dr Ndebele would have done during this difficult time of lack, fear, uncertainty and desperation.

Contact with the ever smiling doctor always spilled into an unforgettable encounter with and experience of love, care and laughter. He healed both body, soul and spirit of our people with humility, commitment and unwavering consistency.

Greatly missed by his people and the ZAPU family.

FULL TEXT: Bulawayo City Council On Suspected Contaminated Water In The City

PRESS RELEASE

The City of Bulawayo has received complaints on suspected contamination of drinking water from residents. When complaints are received by the Municipality, the water quality teams which include the Water Quality laboratory and Environmental Health officers are dispatched to take samples, test and recommend correctional measures.

In the instance of Luveve and all other areas where reports have been received, the teams were dispatched to test for quality. Duc to water-shedding, samples were taken from the containers (buckets) in the households which were being used for potable use. The results of these were unsatisfactory indicating bacterial presence. The teams were dispatched to these areas to conduct awareness and education campaigns on water storage and safety.

Samples were collected from Municipal sampling points in the same areas and the water quality was satisfactory. There was notable inconsistency between the two sources (Household and Municipal Water) hence the encouragement by the City of Bulawayo for residents to boil their drinking water especially during the period of intermittent water supply.

Rectal swabs were also taken and sent to the Laboratory and nothing was detected in terms of notifiable diseases such as Cholera and Typhoid. The City is yet to receive a report from the other laboratories and health facilities as specified in the Public Health Act on notifiable diseases.

We have teams on the ground that are currently investigating the source of the diarrhoea! outbreak and we are also liaising with various medical institutions in the City.

The City of Bulawayo continues to monitor water quality, ensure corrective measures as per norm where there are irregularities and also advises residents to take precautionary measures by using safe sources of water for potable use.

Residents are encouraged to use appropriate containers in storing water, store water safely, practise good hygiene especially in handling water and boil water for drinking.

What containers should be used to store water,

• Water should be collected and stored in thoroughly sanitized food-grade plastic or glass containers.

• First, wash the inside and outside of each container with soap and hot water.

• Finally, rinse thoroughly with plain clean water.

• Avoid using milk containers because they can be hard to clean. Bacteria can grow quickly in a milk container contaminating the water stored in it.

Ecocash Fraudster Arrested

A RUSAPE man allegedly defrauded a tuckshop of groceries worth $1 900 through editing an EcoCash transaction confirmation message.

Tafadzwa Tumba (22) of Muziti Village under Chief Makoni’s area was not asked to plead when he appeared before Rusape magistrate, Ms Rutendo Machingura.

He was remanded out of custody to June 18 on $300 bail.

Prosecuting, Mr Tawanda Munjanja said Tumba defrauded Ms Praise Mbewe, a shop assistant at Nyakufu tuckshop in Tsanzaguru.

The crime was only discovered when Mbewe and her employer were taking stock of the day’s sales.

“On May 13 around 10am, Tumba approached Ms Mbewe and bought groceries worth $1 900. He said he would pay via EcoCash.

“However, Tumba simply edited an EcoCash text message to read as if he had paid $1 900 to Nyakufu tuckshop. He went on to show it to Ms Mbewe, who then recorded the fake confirmation,” said Mr Munjanja.

The offence was discovered by Lawrence Nyakufu on the same day around 6pm when he was checking the payments recorded against the Ecocash payments received.

He noted that the payment code used by the accused person was fake.

A police report was made, thereby leading to Tumba’s arrest.

Nothing was recovered.

Legendary Jazz Musician Tanga Wekwa Sando Completes Divorce With Wife.

Daily News

Tanga Wekwa Sando

THE High Court has settled township jazz guru Tanga Wekwa Sando’s divorce to his estranged wife Irene Wairimu 21 years after the couple separated.

The proceedings were heard and determined before Justice Erica Ndewere, who passed an order for sharing of the couple’s four houses, two in Highfield, one in Glen Lorne and another at Wansford Court, Harare.

The Paidamoyo hitmaker retained number 2960 Highfield Township as his sole property and got 60 percent of the value of 10230 Highfield Township while Wairimu got 40 percent.

Wairimu retained number 33 Wansford Court as her sole property and 70 percent of 304 Glen Road, Glen Lorne while Sando got 30 percent of the value.

The court ruled that the two properties in Highfield and Glen Lorne would be evaluated for the parties to ascertain the values awarded to them in monetary terms.

Sando has the first option to buy out Wairimu from 10230 Highfield by paying the equivalent of her 40 percent value within four months of issuance of the order, failure of which the option would be given to his ex-wife to buy out his 60 percent.

The same was granted for the Glen Lorne property.

The court heard how Sando customarily married Wairimu in Kenya in 1987 after meeting her in the United States of America when the parties were, 25, and 17, respectively.

“They arrived in Zimbabwe in 1988 with just two suitcases and a baby,” reads the opening statement of the second paragraph of Ndewere’s judgment.

When they moved to Zimbabwe their union was solemnised before setting up businesses in the pharmaceutical and arts industries registered as Medicare (Pvt) Ltd and Tega Tega Communications in 1997.

However, their marriage had been turbulent since the early 90s and Wairumu sought intervention of Sando’s extended family and a meeting was convened in Highfield on April 4, 1999 where he declared that he was no longer interested in the union and bid his children farewell before walking out.

Wairimu later left for the United Kingdom with their two minor children in 2002 before Sando issued divorce summons against her in July 2015, saying she had deserted their matrimonial home — a claim she vehemently denied.

Football Cleared To Resume In South Africa As Lockdown Scales Down Considerably.

Business Tech

The South African cabinet has announced that the government had made a number of new changes to the regulations under Level 3 lockdown.

According to the statement by cabinet, those changes were based on health assessment which would be presented next week. The assessment was made by the National Coronavirus Command Council (NCCC).

Of these recommendations, the Cabinet has decided to defer approval of the recommendations pending a full health assessment report from the Ministerial Health Advisory Committee on Covid-19.

However, the government published a number of new changes this week which were aimed at amending the regulations that were still in place under lockdown level 3 as well as to clarify issues affecting a number of sectors.

Below is a summary of those new changes:

Travel:

International travel is allowed, provided that it is for the return of a South African national or permanent resident to his or her place of employment, study or residence, outside of the country.

Citizens are required to have at least five working days in advance of the intended date of travel, and also provide the Department of Home Affairs with:

* A copy of his or her valid South African passport;

* A letter of confirmation of admissibility or the validity of the visa or permit issued by the relevant diplomatic or consular mission or authority of the receiving country;

* A proof of permission to transit, in the case where transiting through another country is involved.

* Proof of the means of travel and the intended date of departure.

Sports:

Teams should make sure that all safety protocols are observed in regards to rules pertaining to training as well as hosting of events.

The new changes only apply to the presumption of non – contact sports such as:

Cycling;

Golf;

Rowing;

Tennis;

Cricket;

Squash.

Contact sports such as football and rugby are allowed to resume but under strict safety conditions.

Media and Arts:

These new changes also speak to the Arts and Culture industry, with reference to the rules around film and television production.

More people are allowed to be on set during filming and television production. The new changes also speak to live streaming.

SCHOOLS:

The department of Basic Education has released a new and updated school holidays calendar, which gives learners a total of seven days of rest of the year.

Here is the new academic holidays calendar:

Financial Sector Laws Amendment Bill of 2020.

The submission of the Financial Sector Laws Amendment Bill of 2020 to Parliament was also approved by the cabinet.

The main objective of the Bill was to designate the South African Reserve Bank as the Resolution Authority. It was also to enhance the SARB’s regulatory tools for discharging its statutory mandate, this in order to ensure the stability of the financial system in the country.

Sundowns Target Dzukamanja

Farai Dziva| ABSA Premiership giants Mamelodi Sundowns are keen to sign Zimbabwean striker Terrence Dzukamanja, it has emerged.

Dzukamanja, whose Bidvest Wits is said to be on it’s way to selling it’s PSL status, has issued a clearance sale, with two of their key players on their way to Orlando Pirates.

Sources told South African publication Kick Off that Masandawana coach Pitso Mosimane is a ‘big fan’ of the 26-year-old and inquries have also been made, though the only possible hindrance to the club pursuing a move for him is the number of foreign players it currently has.

For the Brazilians to make a move for the Warriors striker, they have to release one foreign player within their ranks first, to create room.

Farai Jere Apologises For Chaos At Caps United

Farai Dziva|CAPS United boss Farai Jere has apologised for the chaotic scenes at the Harare giants.

Makepekepe players ganged up on vice president Nhamo Tutisani at the club’s offices in Eastlea on Tuesday demanding their salaries and the confrontation turned nasty as Tutisani exchanged harsh words with winger Phineas Bamusi, with the former threatening to terminate the latter’s contract.

Jere, who also doubles as the Premier Soccer League chairman, says though the sitiuation is lamentable, better communication could have hindered it from happening and it will now be solved forthwith.

“I don’t know what spirit got in really, because my colleague (Tutisani) had phoned me, telling me everything was in order and they were planning to pay players the balance this week starting on Tuesday. He had even told me that he wanted to slaughter a beast at his farm for them. There were plans for more good things for them, but you know the devil is always there when something good is about to happen. You see those groceries which were being distributed to them, they were worth $200 000 — more than their salaries and all this is being done in recognition of their plight in this difficult period,” Jere told NewsDay.

“I want to apologise to the Caps family and Zimbabwean football in general for the unfortunate incident on Tuesday. Caps is a big machine and if it catches a cold, it affects the entire domestic football. It’s something we don’t want to see being repeated. We have since engaged the players and they have also apologised on their part. What is important is to unite during this difficult period.”

Mutuma Keen To Play Football In Europe

Nomadic former Dynamos, CAPS United and Highlanders striker Rodreck Mutuma says he still dreams of playing football for a European team.

The gangly striker, who also had a short stint with ABSA Premiership side Bloemfontein Celtic, is currently with Congolese side FC Lupopo and his solitary strike in last year’s 1-0 Lubumbashi derby win against TP Mazembe propelled his side to their first victory over their city rivals in 11 years.

Mutuma (32) opened up on his unfulfilled dream of playing the game on European soil.

“I haven’t achieved all my career goals but I’m grateful for what I have achieved so far,” he told lifestyle tabloid H-Metro.

“I still want to play for any European team. I have played in Zimbabwe, South Africa and DRC and it is still possible,” he added-Soccer 24

FULL TEXT: ED Lockdown Update

1–All our people in the informal sector, who have not formally registered themselves or their enterprises, are directed to do so forthwith. Once they can prove that such registration has been made, they can resume their operations. Upon resuming their work, they are compelled to adhere to the laid down COVID-19 prevention requirements, such as the wearing of masks, washing or sanitization of hands and social distancing;

2–Gathering for purposes of worship must remain at a maximum of fifty and in full compliance with all the COVID-19 prevention measures;

Presidential National Day Of Prayer A Nullity from God’s Standpoint

By Bishop Ancelimo Magaya

‘Bring no more vein oblations, incense are an abomination to me, the new moon and Sabbath, the calling of assemblies, (be they presidential), I cannot, away with them! It is an iniquity, even the solemn meeting. Your new moon and appointed feast, my soul hates. They are trouble unto me. I am weary to bear them. And when you spread forth your hands, I will hide my eyes from you. When you make many prayers, I will not hear. Your hands are full of blood’, (Isaiah 1:13-15).

Verse 15 in particular, captures what God promises to do on the 15th of June. The just called for presidential national day of prayer is a development that has happened not only at a time when the president and his aides have just promised another spate of violence, persecution, arbitrary arrests and abductions through the guise of the ‘Long arm of the Law’, but also at a time when they have just brutally tortured the three young women for their involvement in the flash demonstration, arrested honorable Biti and company for requesting the police to facilitate their entry into their party headquarters, but also at a time when many fingers are pointing to the first family in relation to corruption allegations surrounding the supply of COVID response equipment.

It is common knowledge that this second republic has blood in their hands.

They killed on the 1st of August 2018, they killed on October 10 2018, they killed from January 14-16 2019 and applied law selectively wherein they arrested those that looted but those that raped and killed still roam the streets.

They have just killed a man in Bulawayo during this COVID-19. They then call for a national day of prayer. God will not hear. The event will be loathsome before him.

The first thing to do Mr President is to openly repent of your sins: murder, corruption, deceit etc. The scripture that you quoted places a condition of leaving your wicked ways. I charge that you do so sincerely, submit to the authority of the church for guidance and counsel. Without that, the 15th of June national day of prayer is a nullity before God and the church.

For the church and the citizenry, let us push persistently through labor pains, the birthing of a new Zimbabwe.

God save Zimbabwe.

It’s Pointless To Fast While You Are Killing Citizens, Church Leader Tells Mnangagwa

Farai Dziva|Courageous Church leader Bishop Ancelimo Magaya has described Emmerson Mnangagwa’s National Day of Prayer as meaningless in the spiritual realm.

Bishop Magaya challenged Mnangagwa to repent before calling for a fast.

COVID-19 Prevention: Handmade Masks Are Not 100% Safe

IF your face mask does not have more than one layer of fabric it may expose you to Covid-19 infection, according to World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines on home made masks.

Also, anyone who wears a single mask for more than three hours increases chances of infection.

Unlike medical masks which are produced for hospitals, handmade masks yield higher infection rates caused by droplets and airborne micro-organisms.
Studies have shown that multi layered masks offer more protection and single layer cloths masks are riskier.

Cloth masks, become magnets for the virus when they get wet, even due to vapour from breathing in and out.

WHO points out that homemade masks become less effective if they are not used in conjunction with other Covid-19 prevention measures like social distancing and hygiene.

Masks, the organisation advises, should be washed using hot water in a basin with laundry detergent and if hot water is not available, cold water with 0.05 percent chlorine should be used.

They should be soaked for 30 minutes and then be rinsed with water and laundry detergent.
Low resource countries will have to rely on the handmade cloth masks to contain Covid-19 which has so far infected 292 people in Zimbabwe and killed four.

Globally, more than 7 million have been infected and deaths top 400 000.

Local manufacturers and tailors have ventured into mask making after Government made it mandatory for everyone to wear a mask in public spaces.
A majority use just any cloth in single layers.

Police have been arresting people spotted without face masks after the law was enacted, effective May 4.

WHO says cloth masks should not replace respirators and should never be used by healthcare workers in health institutions.

“Homemade cloth masks may offer marginal protection from droplet and airborne infections from asymptomatic persons by reducing the number of respiratory droplets from them to others,” read the statement from WHO.

“Homemade cloth masks can be assembled from many different materials readily available within the community.

Yet, preliminary data shows that masks made up of two or more cloth layers are more effective at keeping particle penetration lower than single-layered masks.”

The guidelines also recommended that in providing routine care to a Covid-19 patient, health care workers should wear surgical masks.

“Make sure to keep the homemade cloth mask dry at all times. Even moisture from exhaling could potentially make the fabric more prone to transmitting infection,” said WHO.

“Homemade cloth masks may be worn up to three hours without an increase in particle penetration and they must be cleaned daily.”

WHO also emphasised the need for physical distancing of at least 1-metre and adopting sound hand hygiene practices in addition to wearing masks.

Just In: MDC Alliance Women Leaders Arrive At Court

By Own Correspondent| The three MDC Alliance girls who were abducted, tortured and arrested have now arrived at Harare Magistrates court in pain and guarded by riot police and plain clothes officers numbering 11.

The state intends to press more charges against the girls who now have two charges of participating in an unsanctioned demonstration and faking abduction.

Advocate Chamisa Speaks On Zim’s Man-Made Governance Crisis

MDC Alliance Dismisses Dr Mashakada’s Claims That He Was Victimized By Hon Hwende

Source : MDC Alliance Communications

In recent days I have noted with concern and dismay a flurry of deliberate falsehoods and malicious allegations being peddled by former MDC Alliance Secretary for Policy and Research Hon. Tapiwa Mashakada accusing Secretary-General Hwende of all sorts of things.

Among other things Hon Mashakada falsely claims that he failed to attend the last Standing Committee meeting because SG Hwende had organized thugs to beat him up if he attended the meeting.

Hon Mashakada also falsely accuses Hwende of stifling debate through intimidating other National Standing Committee members. He also falsely accuses him of personalising the MDC Alliance and calling the party “chinhu chedu”.

None of these preposterous allegations are true and Hon Mashakada knows he is deliberately lying in order to sanitize his decision to betray the national democratic struggle by jumping ship and joining hands with ZANU PF and Thokozani Khupe’s MDCT.

To begin with, it is ridiculous for Hon Mashakada to suggest that an individual can successfully intimidate any of the senior and seasoned party cadres who sit in the National Standing Committee. It is simply not possible.

Moreover, the MDC Alliance is a democratic party with multiple safe spaces for robust debate and discourse for its leaders and membership.
It is also outrightly preposterous to allege that Hwende calls the party “chinhu chedu”.

It is common knowledge that no one person owns the MDC Alliance. The MDC Alliance is owned by its collective membership not individuals.

After all, it is clear that Hon Mashakada and Hon Mupariwa made personal and voluntary decisions to disengage from the MDC Alliance when they defied the party’s resolution to temporarily disengage from parliament. By defying the party they made a choice to cooperate with ZANU PF and therefore they should take responsibility for their actions and choices without shifting blame.

Our Secretary-General has been targeted by ZANU PF and its proxies including Hon Mashakada for leading the political and legal fight-back strategy to defend the party and its property.
Through the office of the Secretary-General, the party has successfully filed court papers to defend party property. The party has also succeeded in stopping government from disbursing money due to the MDC Alliance through the Political Parties Finances Act to any other political party.

And lately, we have through the courts stopped the MDCT from replacing recalled MDC Alliance MPs.

Because of these notable successes that we have achieved through the courts party adversaries are panicking and have now targeted the Secretary-General of the party for attack using spurious allegations and blatant lies. But he is only the Secretary-General of the party. He does not make decisions for the party alone. His responsibility is to implement the decisions and resolutions of the party. A responsibility that he has evidently carried out with urgency and without fear or favour.

We are determined to win this fight against ZANU PF and its proxies. And we are setting the stage for victory.
The struggle continues!

Will Zimbabweans Heed Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Call For A Fast?

Farai Dziva|Emmerson Mnangagwa’s proclamation of the “Presidential National Prayer Prayer Day is a reflection of the highest level of blasphemy given his administration’s blatant abuse of human rights, the persecution, harassment and torture of opposition members and perceived Zanu PF opponents.

On Wednesday Mnangagwa’s administration, rearrested three MDC Alliance Youth Assembly leaders Joana Mamombe, Cecilia Chimbiri and Netsai Marova.

The three MDC Alliance youth leaders were abducted and severely tortured by suspected state security agents last month.

“The Voice of the People is the Voice of God ” was Mnangagwa’s favourite maxim when he rose to power after overthrowing his long time boss, Robert Mugabe, with the help of the military in November 2017.

Analysts say Zimbabwe’s listening President no longer listens and anyone who opposes him is silenced through torture.

Ironically at a time Mnangagwa is persecuting Zimbabweans, he has declared June 15 as the Presidential National Prayer Day.

In the book of 1 Kings 21:7-15 Jezebel (King Ahab’s wife) the most wicked woman in the bible calls for a fast. Church leaders say Mnangagwa has no spiritual authority to proclaim a fast:

…Jezebel his wife said, “Is this how you act as king over Israel? Get up and eat! Cheer up. I’ll get you the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite.”

So she wrote letters in Ahab’s name, placed his seal on them, and sent them to the elders and nobles who lived in Naboth’s city with him.

In those letters she wrote:
So the elders and nobles who lived in Naboth’s city did as Jezebel directed in the letters she had written to them.

They proclaimed a fast and seated Naboth in a prominent place among the people. Then two scoundrels came and sat opposite him and brought charges against Naboth before the people, saying, “Naboth has cursed both God and the king.” So they took him outside the city and stoned him to death. Then they sent word to Jezebel: “Naboth has been stoned to death.”

As soon as Jezebel heard that Naboth had been stoned to death, she said to Ahab, “Get up and take possession of the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite that he refused to sell you. He is no longer alive, but dead.”

On Thursday Mnangagwa had the audacity to quote 2nd Chronicles Chapter 7 verse 13 -15 which reads; If I send pestilence among my people and my people who are called by my name shall humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways then I will hear from heaven and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. Now my eyes shall be open, and my ears attend to the prayer that is made in this place.”

One church leader observed :
” Mnangagwa has the temerity to call for a national day of prayer and fasting when the nation is already FASTING due to the economic hardships at the hands of his corrupt regime which has milked dry the country’s national coffers and crippled industry.

One would expect Mnangagwa to make applicable in his life the same bible verse and turn from his wicked ways.”

A respected media practitioner has also indicated Mnangagwa has no moral authority to call anyone to prayer:

“Best to leave these things to the church. Mr Mnangagwa has no moral authority to call anyone to prayer. His government continues to abuse and intimidate citizens whilst allowing the rich and powerful around him, including his own sons, to engage in blatant acts of corruption.”

Richard Tsvangirai Accuses Zanu PF Of Using COVID -19 Pandemic To “Suffocate” Democratic Rights

Farai Dziva|Richard Tsvangirai, the son of the late MDC president and former Prime Minister of Zimbabwe, Right Honourable Morgan Richard Tsvangirai, has accused Zanu PF of using the COVID -19 pandemic to suppress democratic voices.

Quoting his late father’s words, Richard Tsvangirai argued Zanu PF would not rig the economy.

“Comrades, it is very unfortunate that I come to you in the middle of a pandemic, and it is with sorrow, comrades that occupants of the shake shake building have decided to capitalize on this pandemic by suffocating our democratic rights.”

Mnangagwa To Stay In Power Beyond 2023- Mliswa

@edmnangagwa
is there for his 5 year term and will seek another in 2023.

Prof Jonathan Moyo Writes To Malaba, ZACC Over Corrupt Lawyers

By A Correspondent- Professor Jonathan Moyo has asked Chief Justice Luke Malaba and the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission to take action against corrupt lawyers compromising the justice delivery system in Zimbabwe.

Moyo pleaded with Malaba to follow up on allegations made by Information ministry Permanent Secretary Nick Mangwana that lawyers were bribing presiding officers to obtain judgments.

Wrote Moyo:

Attention: Chief Justice Luke Malaba
Judge President George Chiweshe
Chief Magistrate Munamoto Mutevedzi
cc JSC, ZACC

Govt spokesperson, Nick Mangwana, says it’s a fact that magistrates and judges are bought by very corrupt lawyers. Ask him to prove it and take action!

Mangwana had posted on Twitter that:

“We have a coterie of very corrupt lawyers who buy out our, investigating officers, prosecutors, magistrates and judges. They adulterate our whole justice delivery system. They are not above the law they are supposed to uphold. They help derail our anti-corruption fight.”

Mangwana was responding to an outcry that the government was engaging in an wanton crackdown on lawyers who represent clients who are deemed hostile to government.

POLICE FRUSTRATE MDC ALLIANCE TRIO’S COURT APPEARANCE

By A Correspondent- The arrested MDC Alliance trio Joana Mamombe, Cecilia Chimbiri and Netsai Marova are yet to appear at court amid revelations that the police are delaying the process of taking them to court.

In the morning, the trio were reportedly delayed as the police were said to be taking their fingerprints.

Said a source privy to developments:

“The three are supposed to appear in Court today Friday. They were supposed to have been at court by 0900hrs but they are still not yet here. We are hearing that they have been delayed because the police are now taking their fingerprints. I am not too sure if they will make it on time because their court sitting is supposed to be at 11:15 am.”

However, by 12:30hrs, the trio were yet to appear at court.

Added a source:

“The delays are deliberate so that they remand them in custody this weekend. They are frustrating their lawyers becuase no valid reason is being given whye they are not at court.”

The development comes as the abducted and tortured MDC Alliance trio spent the night behind bars following their arrest for faking an abduction.

“Severely Punish Returnees Evading Testing”: Auxilia Mnangagwa Tells Traditional Leaders

By A Correspondent- First lady Auxillia Mnangagwa has urged traditional leaders to severely punish returnees and deportees who evade testing for COVID-19 or escape from quarantine centres.

Over 190 people are reported to have escaped from quarantine centres housing returnees and deportees from South Africa, Mozambique and Botswana.

The First Lady was addressing community members at Makhulela village in Bulilima district yesterday where she had gone to monitor projects she initiated for the San community and enlighten them about the dangers of COVID-19. She also donated foodstuffs and blankets to the elderly.

“Chiefs, we ask you to exercise your powers and see how you can punish those who sneak into the community without being tested or escape quarantines centres. These people have become a danger to our communities. You should also have a book to record those who are returning home from neighbouring countries,” she said.

“You shouldn’t keep these people because you risk contracting the disease. All returnees should produce a certificate of clearance. Those without should be reported to the police,” the First lady said.

Police Press More Charges Against Hon Mamombe And Two MDC Alliance Leaders

By Own Correspondent| Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) members on Thursday 11 June 2020 pressed a cocktail of charges including faking abduction and disappearance against three opposition MDC-Alliance party youth leaders, who are victims of abduction and torture after they re-arrested them on Wednesday 10 June 2020.

ZRP members charged Harare West legislator Hon. Joana Mamombe aged 27 years, Cecelia Chimbiri aged 31 years and Netsai Marova aged 25 years with defeating or obstructing the course of justice as defined in section 184(1)(f) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act for allegedly making false statements to some law enforcement agents alleging that they had been unlawfully detained or kidnapped by some unknown people, who claimed to be police officers, when they went missing on 13 May 2020 and dumped at Muchapondwa Business Centre in Bindura in Mashonaland Central province.

The trio is represented by Jeremiah Bamu, Roselyn Hanzi and Tinomuda Shoko of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights.

The law enforcement agents also charged Hon. Mamombe with contravening section 4(1)(a) of the Public Health (Covid-19 Prevention, Containment and Treatment) (National Lockdown) Order Statutory Instrument 77/2020. ZRP members claimed that Hon. Mamombe breached some national lockdown regulations on 24 April 2020 at Chichera farm in Marlborough suburb, where while in the company of some unnamed people, she unnecessarily moved around the farm while conducting some interviews with the farm
tenants.

Marova and Chimbiri were also charged with violating section 37(1)(b) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act after they allegedly participated in an anti-government demonstration held on 19 February 2020, where they held some placards written “Respect our Constitution”, “ED enda”, “Hatichada kunyengerera” and “Hatipihwe order nemasaskamu.

Already, Hon. Mamombe, Chimbiri and Marova are set to stand trial in August after they were first arrested on 26 May 2020 and charged with committing public violence for allegedly participating in an anti-government protest against hunger during the national lockdown
period.

The trio, which was granted RTGS$1 000 bail and asked to report once in a fortnight at police stations, was accused of gathering with intent to promote public violence, breaches of the peace or bigotry as defined in section 37 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act and for contravening section 5(3) (a) as read with section 5(1) of Statutory Instrument 99 of 2020 of Public Health (COVID-19 Prevention, Containment and Treatment) (National Lockdown) Order, 2020.

Prosecutors allege that Hon. Mamombe, Chimbiri and Marova participated in an illegal demonstration held on 13 May 2020 in Warren Park 1 suburb in which opposition MDC-Alliance party supporters allegedly staged a flash demonstration protesting against hunger at a time when the country was under a government enforced national lockdown.

The decision to press criminal charges against Hon. Mamombe, Chimbiri and Marova came at a time when the trio was receiving treatment at a local medical facility following their abduction, disappearance and torture on 13 May 2020.

To date, no arrests have been made by ZRP members of people who abducted, disappeared and tortured the opposition youth leaders with Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Hon. Kazembe Kazembe accusing them of faking their abduction and torture, a charge which their lawyers deny.

‘JOC Statement A Confirmation That The Country Is In A Crisis’

STATEMENT ON THE THREATS BY THE WORKING COMMITTEE OF THE NATIONAL SECURITY COUNCIL ON THE SITUATION IN ZIMBABWE
12 June 2020

The Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition (CiZC) notes the statement from the Working Committee of the National Security Council (WCNSC) of Zimbabwe on the 10th of June 2020, dismissing widespread rumours of an imminent coup d’état in Zimbabwe.

We note some inaccuracies and inconsistencies in their statement and therefore embrace this as a golden opportunity to directly express citizens’ voices and concerns.

Firstly, the holding of the press conference and statement is a confirmation and admittance that the country is in a crisis. We, therefore, contend that any effort to provide solutions to the multi-faceted national crisis should be people-centred and grounded in an all-inclusive, all-stakeholder dialogue.

As such a military coup, as has been proven in other jurisdictions, and recently in Zimbabwe in November 2017 will only protect the interests of a few political and security elite at the expense of a sustainable solution.

Secondly, we are deeply worried and concerned that the tone and threats against opposition political activists, citizens’ activists, civil society organisations, churches and other pro-democratic forces, which amounts to a declaration of war on an already burdened and the traumatised citizenry, threatens their security and undermines our collective capacity to address the multi-faceted crisis facing the country, and the economy nearing collapse while souring COVID-19 infections and a growing sense of insecurity.

Thirdly, we are concerned about the shrinking democratic space evidenced by abductions, arrests, persecution by the prosecution of civil society, lawyers and political opponents is inconsistent with Committee’s assertion that Zimbabwe is stable and peaceful.

The peacefulness they refer to is negative peace and is not sustainable in an environment of poverty and depravity. The inability of the state to bring to book perpetrators of human rights violations, shootings and abductions have adversely affected citizen’s trust in state institutions responsible for the administration of justice and their security.

Additionally, we note, not only the increase in cases of high-level corruption including high ranking government officials and or their families but also attempts to muzzle and intimidate citizen and media voices raising these issues. Most disturbingly, is the exploitation of a world-wide pandemic to pilferage.

While acknowledging initial pronouncements by the government that it will deal with corruption, we note a waning resolve to contain and arrest corruption and a disturbing affinity to target whistle-blowers and the press.

In the same vein, while acknowledging the importance of international re-engagement and readmission of Zimbabwe into the community of nations, we contend that Zimbabwe needs to re-engage with itself and its citizenry first. This should be done through a rigorous and selfless pursuit of reforms.

More importantly, the ever-deteriorating economic conditions, further worsened by the lockdown have adversely affected the livelihoods of the majority of citizens who largely depend on the informal economy. This has and continues to affect the poorest of our communities without adequate safety nets to mitigate the effects. This has affected access to social services, education health further widening the gap between the rich and poor. We are further concerned about how the lockdown has been abused to close the democratic space and selectively applied by the authorities.

To solve the Crisis as highlighted above we ask the government to;

1) Urgently institute a genuine all-inclusive national dialogue process must involve all stakeholders and a national visioning process that has civil society, government, political parties, business, religious groups and labour unions among other critical stakeholders. The dialogue process should produce a timed roadmap to the demilitarisation of civilian political processes and the restoration of normalcy by focusing on key political, economic and social reforms. In this regard, we call for FULL CONSULTATION of all stakeholders rather than cosmetic processes.

On the Economy:
2) It is imperative to arrest the economic downturn in Zimbabwe based on a clear reform roadmap and implementation of pro-poor and inclusive economic policies. Efforts at economic transformation, stabilisation and growth should be aimed at achieving inclusive sustainable economic growth and development.

On Constitutionalism, Rule of Law, Human Rights and Human Security:

3) The Government of Zimbabwe must uphold and guarantee citizens’ rights as enshrined in the Zimbabwean Constitution, other regional and international human rights treaties and statutes. Full implementation of the country’s constitution is equally important in promoting democracy in Zimbabwe. We, therefore, reject Constitutional Amendment Bill Number 2.
4) The Government of Zimbabwe must respect the fundamental right of access to information, freedom of expression as well as freedom of association.
5) There is a need to immediately operationalise a comprehensive programme on national healing, reconciliation and nation-building that will depolarise society and entrench the respect for diversity, inclusion and tolerance in all facets of life.
6) The army must desist from partisan politics and confine themselves to the barracks. There is an imperative need to de-militarise the Zimbabwean state.

Namibia MDC Condemns Kazembe On Abductions | FULL TEXT

12 JUNE 2020

MDC ALLIANCE NAMIBIA IS SOLIDLY BEHIND THE CALL FOR DANGEROUS FREEDOM AGAINST ZANUPF SATANISN MANIFESTING THROUGH ARBITRARY ARRESTS AND ABDUCTIONS OF ITS LEADERS.

Mdc Alliance Namibia is not detered by Kazembe Kazembe’s clueless and desperate threats to Vice Chairperson Job Sikhala who is clear on the much- needed radical approach to win our struggle for Socio-economic transformation. We want to throw our weight behind our vibrant leader and all our leaders as well as membership who are displaying their readiness and nerve to confront Zanupf satanism.

It is apparent that Zanupf Stomach politicians have dismally failed to put the economy on a sounder footing. As a party of Excellence led by Advocate Nelson Chamisa, we condemn with equal measure the futile attempt by Ed’s ruthless government to silence human rights defenders through their captured courts, army ,police and their cios. Social democrats in Namibia are clear on their resolve to work with all progressive forces in and outside Zimbabwe to fight Zanupf stinking corruption and dictatorship.

Furthermore, the rearrest of our girls of valour and nerve shall neither break their resolve to fight autocracy nor alter their commitment and dedication towards the transformational agenda as our revolutionary trajectory. The incaceration and torture of revolutionaries will only reinvigorate and inspire their resolve for a better Great Zimbabwe led by Advocate Nelson Chamisa. The torture and abduction of Joanna Mamombe, Cecilia, Netsai, Womberaiishe Nhende and the arbitrary arrest of Vp Biti, Vp Kore, Leader Chimhini, Lovemore Chinoputsa, Leader Gladys and leader Tome not forgetting Advocate Thabani Mpofu and Adv Hashiti are signs of desperation and political bankruptcy by Ed and cronies.

It is imperative for all progressive forces in Zimbabwe and the diaspora to rise to the occasion to ensure that the democratic space is unlocked. Mdc Alliance Namibia is more than ready join all and sundry in the confrontation of Zanupf thugs who are running our country like a village tuckshop.

Moreover, the dictators in Zanupf must realise that arresting a revolutionary is not tantamount to arresting the revolution. The revolution becomes more powerful with revolutionaries in hospitals and prisons because it inspires Social democrats. We shall not back off just because of these illegal arrests of our leaders. The time to draw a line in the sand is now!

Lets brace for dangerous freedom against peaceful slavery promoted by these greedy and careerist politicians in a Zanupf-led government. We are raring to go as Mdc Alliance Namibia. Lets commit ourselves to the poverty liberation process through a serious challenge to gross misgovernance and thugocracy which has become a National religion in our beloved country. The change that delivers is coming soon!

PICTURES PROVING MNANGAGWA’S INFECTED WITH ZUPCOVID-19?

Emmerson Mnangagwa on Friday commissioning ZUPCO buses

Whenever a dictator is about to be removed, he or she gets ZUPCOinsane, the trend from the Grace Mugabe era suggests. In the days running up to the military coup in November 2017, government activities became centred around the ZUPCO company and Grace and her husband, Robert’s faces became splattered all over the parastatal’s buses. However, unlike the Mugabes, Mnangagwa has gone to the extent of selling ancestral land the size of the city of Mutare to foreigners, the Belarusian government in exchange for said ‘useless’ buses.

Today, Friday, morning, Mnangagwa is commissioning more ZUPCO buses, flanked by ready to shoot armed soldiers. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

Military On Invading Harvest House For Mwonzora As Seen On Video

https://youtu.be/cZXZnjm5qXQ

By A Correspondent- Army spokesperson Colonel Overson Mugwisi has maintained that there were no soldiers involved during the June 5 2020 Harvest House takeover.

In an exclusive interview with ZimEye, Colonel Mugwisi said there was no video evidence showing the involvement of the army, accusing the media of crafting falsehoods regards the presence of the army at Harvest House on the day in question.

He said:

“I have seen it (the video footage at Harvest House), there are no soldiers, It’s just somebody alleging that there are soldiers inside. …It’s not correct. I am not going to talk about the police officers.”

Colonel Mugwisi however refused to respond to the allegations made by the police officer in the video clip saying:

“We are interpreting the video differently… what have the soldiers said there in that video clip. I don’t want to talk about the police. I have other things to do and will not talk to you. We did not deploy any soldiers to Morgan Richard Tsvangirai House. We end it here. Thank you very much. Have a good day.”

“Lets Dismantle The Broken, Toxic Politics”: Mahere

By A Correspondent- Newly appointed MDC Alliance spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere has called for an overhaul of the toxic politics engraved in the nation because of Zanu Pf.

Said Mahere in an interview with a local publication:

“We believe that in order to free Zimbabwe, we need to dismantle the broken, toxic political system that is led by Zanu PF in all its forms and replace it with a government that is value-based and that has the people at heart.

We believe that the current system is not working and must be replaced with a new way of doing politics that champions people’s issues, integrity, competence, ideas, good governance, freedom, fairness, opportunity, innovation and an open, inclusive society that enables every Zimbabwean to prosper.”

FULL TEXT: MDC Alliance Youth Statement on Constitutional Amendment No. 2 Hearings

MDC Alliance Youth Assembly Statement on Constitutional Amendment Number 2 Public Hearings

For Immediate Release

June 12, 2020

The MDC Alliance Youth Assembly would want to register its reservations on the Zanu PF goverment’s call for Public Hearings on Constitutional Amendment Number 2 slated for next week.

Given the widespread of COVID_19, we call upon the Parliament of Zimbabwe to make a resolution setting the right environment to save people from the spread of the virus.

Jumping the gun

It is clear to the MDC Alliance National Youth Assembly that currently, the most pressing issue is not Constitutional Amendment Number 2 but the alignment of Acts to the Constitution.

As the youths of this country, we questioned why the ZANUPF-led goverment is desirous to amend a Constitution before its tenets have even been implemented?

We question the regime’s interest to jump the gun by fast tracking the public hearings on the Constitution Amendment Number 2. This comes against the backdrop that the Constitution Amendment Number 2 seeks to reverse the gains brought upon Zimbabwe by the current Constitution of Zimbabwe.

Which gains in the current Constitution stand to be lost?

The Executive Branch of the State is showing impatience as it hurriedly intends to terminate a whooping 28 provisions of the Constitution.

We as the MDC Alliance Youth Assembly, we are further disturbed by the fact that out of the 28 provisions meant to be changed, 20 of them are elections related.

With elections in Zimbabwe penciled for 2023, it can only be concluded that the Zanu PF-led government’s intentions are not at all innocent but meant to entrench its stranglehold on power.

As the MDC Alliance National Youth Assembly, we make serious recommendations that there be no amendments made to any provisions of the current Constitution before its fullest implementation.

Mitigating factors

The MDC Alliance National Youth Assembly views as contradictory and nefarious intentions by the State to run Public Hearings on Constitutional Amendment Number 2 while impinging on COVID-19 guidelines imposed by the World Health Organisation (WHO), of which Zimbabwe is a member.

As MDC Alliance youths, we see such a move (carrying out public hearings) as retrogressive and unwarranted especially when COVID-19 pandemic has accounted for millions of deaths worldwide, with the number of infections in Zimbabwe rising on a daily basis.

Precedence

In the past – between March 18 and May 5, to be precise – all parliamentary sessions were halted as measures to prevent the spread of the deadly coronavirus were taken, we note that nothing has changed.

Even one of the most important and lucrative sporting event around the globe, soccer, has also been temporarily suspended in order to save lives through effecting reasonable social distancing measures.

Where soccer has resumed in the Bundasliga in Germany, it has been in empty stadiums with measures also taken to ensure adherence to the COVID-19 guidelines.

Way forward

The MDC Alliance National Youth Assembly Portfolio has resolved that:

*Proper caution must be made to ensure that the Public Hearings are conducted in a conducive environment, with all necessary Personal Protective Equipment made available to the participants.

  • There must also be measures taken to ensure the alignment of legislative pieces to the Constitution, including that any amendments to the current Constitution must be halted.

Public hearings must also be conducted in the presence of all stakeholders, including but not limited to civil society.

MDC To Deal With MPs Who Attended Parliament Against Party Directive – Mahere

Own Correspondent

Fadzai Mahere with Nelson Chamisa

Newly appointed MDC Alliance national spokesperson Fadzai Mahere has declared that the opposition party will crack its whip on party parliamentarians who recently defied a directive to boycott parliament business.

Zimbabwe’s main opposition party recently boycotted parliamentary proceedings to protest against the dismissal of four of its legislators at the behest of a faction opposed to the party leadership.

On March 31, the country’s Supreme Court declared that Nelson Chamisa’s leadership of the MDC left behind by founding President Morgan Tsvangirai was illegitimate and ordered the party to hold an election to replace him within three months.

The MDC Alliance said parliament, which is controlled by the ruling ZANU-PF party, had taken sides in the fight to control the opposition. The MDC suspended participation in parliament while it consulted members on its next move.

In the process some of its MPs defied the position and went on to attend parliament.

In a wide ranging interview with Zimbabwe Independent, Mahere said the opposition party will deal with the MPs ergo defied the directive.

“We are a party of rules, discipline and due process. The law will take its course in a fair, transparent manner in accordance with the dictates and internal processes of our constitution,” she said.

Asked on how effective the boycott of parliament was, Mahere said it was important for the party leaders to act unilaterally for any of the resolutions to be effective.

“It was effective because it gave us an opportunity to engage our constituents and grassroots and hear what their views are on what is transpiring in Parliament and how they want us to respond. It is important for party leaders not to act unilaterally. It is important for us to send a clear message to Parliament, to the MDC-T and to all Zimbabweans that we are bound by the will of the people. The people voted for the MDC-Alliance as led by president Chamisa,” said Mahere.

Among the MPs who attended were, Hatfield MP Tapiwa Mashakada, Emakhandeni-Entumbane MP Dingilizwe Tshuma, Hwange East MP Sansole Tose Wesley, proportional representative MPs Memory Mbondiah, Dorcas Sibanda and Ruth Labode.

Among those who also attended were Southerton MP Peter Moyo, Virginia Mafuta, Tekeshe, Joice Makonya, Francesca Ncube, Brightness Mangora, Vincent Tsvangirai and Winnie Kanguni.

Mnangagwa To Address The Nation On Lockdown Extension

Own Correspondent

Mnangagwa to address nation on new Covid-19 lockdown measures
President Emmerson Mnangagwa

PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa will on Friday address the nation on the country’s Covid-19 lockdown situation.

Zimbabwe has been on lockdown for over two months with authorities taking a phased approach to reopening the economy.

Mnangagwa last month extended the country’s lockdown indefinitely and announced his administration shall review its lockdown measures every two weeks.

This Friday shall however be the third week since he announced plans to proceed by two-week reviews.

Mnangagwa Thursday called for a press briefing at State House to let the nation know about his plans for the general Covid-19 situation in the country but was forced to move it to this Friday.

Mnangagwa’s planned address to the nation comes after a rise in the number of Covid-19 cases since the last lockdown extension.

Current statistics shows the country now has 334 positives cases.

Alick Macheso Still Going Strong. ..

Alick Macheso was in his best form when he went live on “Gara Mumba Iwe” concert on Zimbabwe Television Network (ZTN) on Wednesday evening.

Many people had been waiting for the Orchestra Mberikwazvo set on a live platform and his fans were definitely sanitised by the act that has so far stood above most of the performances done on the social media platform.

The combination between ZTN and “Gara Mumba Iwe” sponsor Passion Java has brought exciting times to online live shows featuring local musicians.

Wednesday’s event came as a special occasion as Macheso was celebrating his 52nd birthday and the world joined him on the special day.

Macheso was a happy man on the evening. It started with a “happy birthday party” outside Herald House that houses ZTN studios when the musician’s band members sang the “happy birthday” song for him.

The band members that included Seleman “Majuice” Mpochi and Jonasi Kasamba made the atmosphere outside the studio electric with their impromptu choreography.

It was a great day for Baba Shero, as the musician is popularly known, and his fans who have been waiting for the big day.

In an interview on the sidelines of the show, Macheso said he was excited about the event because fans have been calling for the live performance or a long time.

“People had been calling for the live performance for a long time and I am glad with the response we got. People showed happiness and excitement after our performance and we have been looking forward to this day,” said Macheso.

“This was our day to show people what we can do and we will do our best on such platforms whenever such a chance comes. We will always do our best.

Orchestra Mberikwazvo is a band that has released music for the people for many years and we are glad with the support.”

Macheso showed the world what he is capable of doing. He was in top form and his band rose to the occasion. At the end of the act, Prophet Passion saluted Macheso for the good performance- The Herald

“My Dream Is That My Children Fight A Different Struggle,” Interview With Fadzai Mahere

Own Correspondent

Fadzai Mahere

MDC Alliance leader, Nelson Chamisa recently appointed lawyer and party politician Fadzayi Mahere as spokesperson of the party.

Mahere, replaced Daniel Molokele, as part of the opposition party’s attempts to sharpen the National Standing Committee which is responsible for the day-to-day running of the party.

Zimbabwe Independent senior reporter, Bridget Mananavire (BM), spoke to Mahere (FM), to unpack the party’s position and strategy.

In the interview, Mahere prayed for a complete change in the politics of the country wishing that the next generation of politicians in the country will have something different to attend to than her generation where the politics is more of squabbles than anything else.

Below is the extract of the interview:

BM: First, we congratulate you on your appointment to the influential position of MDC-Alliance spokesperson. However, the appointment comes at a time the party is embroiled in power struggles. How has been your experience so far?

FM: Thank you. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve and be a voice for citizens at such a critical juncture for the nation. The experience has been exhilarating. I have had to hit the ground running but I am humbled by the opportunity to bring clarity at such a critical moment in the party’s history.

BM: How are the power struggles affecting the party, seeing there is a move to replace some MPs that were voted for on the MDC-Alliance ticket?

FM: The agenda for change has always come against adversity with some seeking personal power over the common good. However, this has never stopped us from our true purpose, which is a just, equitable and democratic space that allows all Zimbabweans to flourish without fear or favour. These challenges are a side show designed to distract the nation from the rot and decay being presided over by Mr (Emmerson) Mnangagwa and his colleagues. We will continue to fight against underhand moves to circumvent the people’s will as expressed in the 2018 elections. We remain resolute and clear that our energies are best spent on prioritising national issues.

BM: Does the MDC-Alliance have a clear strategy for defeating the Thokozani Khupe, Douglas Mwonzora and Morgen Komichi camp?

FM: Yes. Our strategy is to always go back to the people because that’s where our power lies.

BM: Still on strategy, last week MPs returned to Parliament after a boycott. First, was the boycott effective in any way and, second, what influenced the decision to return to Parliament?

FM: It was effective because it gave us an opportunity to engage our constituents and grassroots and hear what their views are on what is transpiring in Parliament and how they want us to respond. It is important for party leaders not to act unilaterally. It is important for us to send a clear message to Parliament, to the MDC-T and to all Zimbabweans that we are bound by the will of the people. The people voted for the MDC-Alliance as led by president Chamisa.

Nobody has the prerogative to alter that mandate and give MDC-Alliance votes to a different party. Political parties are not made in courtrooms or through violent army takeovers. Political power comes from the people. It is imperative that we drive that message home over and over.

BM: There are those MPs who continued attending Parliament during the period of withdrawal, what is their fate in the party?

FM: We are a party of rules, discipline and due process. The law will take its course in a fair, transparent manner in accordance with the dictates and internal processes of our constitution.

BM: some citizens have been calling for a so-called signal from MDC-Alliance as they anxiously hope the leadership of the party will lead demonstrations. Is the MDC-Alliance going to take this up?

FM: The right to peaceful protest, peaceful demonstration and resistance is constitutionally protected. The movement will adopt this among many other strategies to fight the system. What is critical is that a broad church of actors that comprises all Zimbabweans including the church, civil society, trade unions, the student movement, business, artists and every sector of society joins hands in the fight. We all want to see Zimbabwe rise from the ashes.

We therefore all have a duty to come together and speak with one voice and act to make the change happen.

BM: Some sectors have criticised the opposition of failing to offer a strong alternative government and a clear message and position on type of governance. How do you respond to this?

FM: As a party, the MDC-Alliance has designed policies that will have an impact on the entire nation, not only affect its supporters. We are a government in waiting.

Therefore, the nation can expect alternative policy formulation as articulated in our RELOAD policy document which is publicly available and which we will continuously speak to as we articulate our plan for progress.

BM: Do you believe a revolution is needed to free the country from the Zanu PF regime or do you think elections are the way to go?

FM: We believe that in order to free Zimbabwe, we need to dismantle the broken, toxic political system that is led by Zanu PF in all its forms and replace it with a government that is value-based and that has the people at heart. We believe that the current system is not working and must be replaced with a new way of doing politics that champions people’s issues, integrity, competence, ideas, good governance, freedom, fairness, opportunity, innovation and an open, inclusive society that enables every Zimbabwean to prosper.

BM: Zanu PF’s acting spokesperson, Patrick Chinamasa, last week said there is no oppression in Zimbabwe. How do you respond to this?

FM: One needs to look at the daily struggles that the ordinary Zimbabwean faces to see that this is an outright lie—there is the erosion of our democratic freedoms, unending corruption, the destruction of livelihoods, hyperinflation, a hunger crisis, chronic unemployment, a leaderless lockdown, a public health disaster, the persecution of lawyers for doing their work, abductions, torture and the sexual assault of women. Oppression surrounds us everywhere we go.

BM: What is the MDC-Alliance’s next move from here?

FM: We will continue to fight this battle on every conceivable front. We will continue to remind Zimbabweans that this is not a fight for the MDC-Alliance but it is a fight for freedom. Democracy is on trial and what we see is a battle for the soul of the nation. We all have a duty to be engaged, to ask, to speak and to act. It cannot be a crime to speak truth to power. It cannot be a crime to hold the government to account. It cannot be a crime to complain that one is hungry. We will not stop talking about the daily struggles that Zimbabweans face as the nation continues in a state of crisis as a result of the bad governance caused by our political elites.

BM: What are the main issues the MDC-Alliance is convinced must be addressed in Zimbabwe at the moment?

FM: As was highlighted by president Chamisa at the beginning of 2020, we will focus our efforts on five key issues, namely the fight for a people’s government and reforms; the fight for a better life and livelihoods; the fight against corruption; the fight for the rule of law; and the fight in defence of the constitution.

BM: How are you, the leadership, going to make the MDC strong again?

FM: The MDC-Alliance is already strong. It carries the strength of the people’s mandate and it is this commitment to the people that we will continue to strengthen.

BM: What message do you carry for Zimbabweans right now?

FM: I want to inspire hope and a thirst for change among Zimbabweans. I hope to be able to contribute to rekindling our self-belief and imagination as a people. I hope to leave this world having participated in setting Zimbabwe on a clear path to becoming the Great Zimbabwe we know it can be.

My dream is that my children and the next generation fight a different struggle from the one that we are fighting today. I wish for progress and that this, too, may pass.

“I Am Not A Magician,” Mthuli Ncube Tells ZANU PF Politburo

Zimbabwe Independent

Mthuli Ncube

FINANCE minister Mthuli Ncube (pictured) on Wednesday told glum-faced Zanu PF heavyweights in a closed-door politburo meeting that the economy is in terrible shape and he has no magic wand to rescue it overnight, Zimbabwe Independent reports.

The Treasury chief was responding to questions from ruling party leaders on his plans to revive the troubled economy. The decision to summon him to the meeting, alongside Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe governor John Mangudya, comes amid mounting fears among Zanu PF bigwigs that the party could lose the 2023 general election owing to the catastrophic economic decline, which they fear is angering the population and alienating voters.

For a long time, some party heavyweights have been unsettled by Ncube’s economic policy thrust, which has seen inflation ballooning to 765% amid severe exchange rate volatility. Incomes and savings have been eroded, condemning most citizens to untold poverty.

Senior party officials have been unhappy with Ncube, accusing him of sabotaging the party through economic mismanagement. Mangudya’s monetary policies have also been subjected to critical scrutiny by party leaders anxious to retain political power.

Ncube’s policies, espoused in the Transitional Stabilisation Programme (TSP), are widely blamed by Zanu PF hardliners for the deteriorating economy.
Criticism from the party hawks had somewhat subsided ahead of this week’s tense meeting after Ncube received strong backing from President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who recruited the economics professor from Europe where he was running a consultancy firm, and deployed him as a technocrat with solutions to fix the ailing economy.

But since coming on board as a cabinet minister, Ncube has been tiptoeing around political landmines at every turn, having introduced sweeping policy changes which have not improved the fortunes of a devastated economy.

Insiders said at this week’s politburo meeting, the big guns were once again trained on Ncube, mostly by party heavyweights who were booted out of the government during the September 2018 cabinet reshuffle. Led by Zanu PF secretary for administration Obert Mpofu, they unequivocally stated that they feared the party would face difficulties in the election unless Ncube, as head of Treasury, urgently addresses the worsening economic crisis.

However, Ncube and Mangudya reportedly told the meeting in no uncertain terms that they possessed no magic wand to turn around the economy.

“The main issue was that of the economy and how prices of basic goods and services have skyrocketed so terribly since he became Finance minister. He was mainly taken to task by politburo members who are out of government over the state of the economy. The politburo members said they were deeply worried that this could alienate the party from potential voters because people are suffering,” a politburo member said.

The source said much of the criticism came from Mpofu and former finance minister Patrick Chinamasa, who demanded answers from the country’s two economic policy tsars.

“Most criticism came from Mpofu and Chinamasa, but all members basically expressed concern over the way the economy was being run. Generally, the two were being accused of working against the party. As you may know, to us the government is subservient to the party, which is then responsible for articulating these policies to the people. So what we have done now is to summon some of these ministers whose policies seem to work against Zanu PF interests,” the party official said.

“So as the Finance minister and governor, we told them that they must fix the economy with great urgency since it’s their area of responsibility, but they clearly stated that things have gone out of hand and it would take a miracle for things to normalise anytime soon unless government, as a matter of urgency, develops a strategy to fund the productive sectors of the economy.”

He added: “Mthuli Ncube, in particular, said the economy was going to take a long time to recover, depending on the necessary interventions. However, he indicated that in the long run, his TSP would bear fruit, but you could see no one was buying that narrative.”

Sources said Mangudya was taken to task over the proliferation of illegal foreign currency traders who are being blamed for fueling inflation.
As of yesterday, the United States dollar was trading at ZW$80, with no sign of respite, despite several measures by the central bank aimed at containing the situation.

However, just like Ncube, Mangudya told the meeting that he, too, was running out of options to plug loopholes exploited by parallel market forex dealers, having already seen a myriad of his measures coming to naught.
“As governor, he was asked to act on the

high level of instability in the exchange rate which has seen the local currency getting so severely corroded that salaries no longer mean anything. Mangudya said the major problem was that we are importing everything as a country and producing very little.

“He said, for instance, we grow wheat enough only to last three months and import wheat for the rest of the year, hence the high prices of bread. He told the meeting that unless government prioritised funding for the productive sectors of the economy, there was no hope,” a politburo member said.

“All raw materials are being imported. Mangudya stated that he was having a hard time trying to arrest the runway inflation and was running out of options after so many loopholes emerged as he sought to close one after another. He said players in the forex dealings have become so skillful that by the time they come up with a measure to control it, they would already have plotted a new way,” the politburo source said.

The Zimbabwean dollar has continued on a free-fall on the parallel market despite several measures by the monetary authorities in the past two years to shore it up, including the appointment of a special taskforce to stabilise the local unit.

Among other measures, the government in mid-2019 banned the use of foreign currency and re-introduced the Zimdollar which had been demonetised for more than a decade.

In March this year, Ncube announced he would introduce a “managed float” exchange rate regime, effectively abandoning strict control of foreign exchange by the central bank, in a series of currency reforms that have failed so far.

The move effectively brought the US dollar back into formal circulation, but the Zimdollar’s significant decline has gathered pace.

Govt Claims Huge Diamond And Gold Deposits Have Been Discovered In Mwenezi And Chiredzi

State Media

Masvingo Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Ezra Chadzamira

The discovery of the minerals around the Chingwizi area at Nuanetsi Ranch and northern parts of Chikombedzi, followed an aero-magnetic survey commissioned by Government through the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development last year.

A local firm, Aero Surv Zimbabwe, partnered a South African firm Xcalibur Airborne Geophysics, in the survey which was launched by Mines and Mining Development Minister Winston Chitando at Buffalo Range Airport last year.

Masvingo Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Ezra Chadzamira said the discovery of the two minerals bodes well for the economy.

“Huge diamond deposits were discovered around the Chingwizi area in Mwenezi while gold was found in northern Chikombedzi following an aero-magnetic survey commissioned by the Government.

“The Ministry of Mines will outline the next course of action after this discovery, but we are excited as a province because this will help grow our provincial Gross Domestic Product and also help the nation achieve its target to make mining a US$12 billion industry by 2023,” said Minister Chadzamira.

Mwenezi and Chiredzi have always been believed to have huge resources of kimberlite diamonds and gold.

This precipitated the survey which confirmed the presence of gems and the yellow metal.

Speaking during the commissioning of the survey last year, Minister Chitando said Government wanted to exploit kimberlite diamonds in line with the new diamond policy.

Diamonds were envisaged to be the bedrock of the policy that sought to transform diamond mining by making sure the mineral contributes US$1 billion to the mining industry by 2023.

The thrust is in line with President Mnangagwa’s vision to make Zimbabwe an upper middle income economy by 2030.

By 2023, Government wants diamond miners to be producing 10 million carats an average of over 3 million produced in the last two years.

It is expected that once mining starts, illegal border jumping in the Lowveld into South Africa by unemployed youths would be reduced.

The development will also spur the growth of Rutenga, which has been designated as a dry port as value addition industries will be opened, tapping on the abundance of the precious stones that will be exported to earn Zimbabwe foreign currency.

The surveyed block for diamonds covered approximately 8 800km stretching over Ngundu, Rutenga and other parts of Mwenezi.

It focused on conglomerate, alluvial and kimberlite deposits.

Under the new diamond policy, only four firms, Alrosa of Russian, Ainjin of China, Murowa and the Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company (ZCDC), are allowed to extract diamonds in Zimbabwe.

Get Rid Of The Zim Dollar And Leave Mangudya – Poll Result.

Own Correspondent

John Mangudya

Zimbabweans believe that the immediate move to turn around the country’s economic fortunes is to get rid of the Zimbabwean dollar and spare the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe governor John Mangudya.

In a poll run by ZimEye.com on Thursday, a 57% majority believe that the problem is the local currency not the man managing the currency.

The Zim Dollar has in recent weeks been tumbling down in the parallel market going as low as US$1 to ZWL$80 in the streets of Harare.

The fall in the dollar has seen incessant price increases of most basic commodity with bread hitting a high of up to ZWL$70 in a bid to match the US$0.90 price.

35% believed that Mangudya should actually be dismissed for the economy to stabilise.

The Reserve Bank governor has been battling to fight the fall of the local currency he forced back in February 2008, in the process coming up with hoards of numerous inconsistent policies.

Just 2% of the respondents believed that Mangudya and his Dollar must be given a chance to work out.

Below is the outcome of the poll.

Mnangagwa Commissioning ZUPCO Buses In Chinhoyi, But Is It Really A Priority Programme Under Covid-19 Lockdown?

State Media

President Mnangagwa will today launch the Zupco Urban Buses initiative at Chinhoyi University of Technology grounds.

The launch, which seeks to address transport challenges particularly in the town, follows the successful roll out of similar programmes in other urban centres.

The revival of Zupco has also seen a number of private player franchising with commuter omnibuses having joined the bandwagon across the nation.

Confirming the launch, Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Mashonaland West, Mary Mliswa-Chikoka told The Herald on the sidelines of the preparatory meeting, which was attended by all provincial heads of Government departments at CUT grounds that the launch would accord the province an opportunity to interact with the President and air transport challenges being faced by the province.

“The President will launch Zupco urban buses here in Chinhoyi on Friday (today), which is line with new dispensation’s plans to provide its citizens with affordable and cheap modes of transport,” she said.

She said the province had a number of districts and wards that were being serviced by unscrupulous private transporters and the initiative by the President would go a long way in providing affordable and decent transport.

Due to the Covid-19 restrictions, she said, the number attendees was expected to be restricted to the stipulated guidelines.

Coronavirus Cases Now 332

Out of the new cases, 11 were among returning citizens and residents in quarantine centres and the 12th was a contact of a known case.

Twenty Year Old Man Brutally Kills Woman On Nyanga’s “Get Rich Quickly” Instructions

State Media

IN a bizarre suspected ritual killing, a 25-year-old woman was sawn in half and part of her body was mutilated and stashed into a drum filled with acid in Bulawayo.

Part of the body, from the waist going down, is still missing while breasts and palms appeared to have been sliced off.

Police yesterday arrested a suspect, Tawana Ngwenya (20), the son of a caretaker where the woman lived. He was arrested in Harare where he had allegedly fled.

Tawana allegedly had a message from a sangoma based in South Africa which instructed him on how to kill Ms Thabelo Mazolo so he could get rich.

Mazolo’s sister secured employment for Ngwenya at a company in Bulawayo and he was staying in Matsheumhlophe suburb at a guest house where Mazolo worked, with his father Mr Buzwani Ngwenya (60) who was the caretaker.

“You must cut yourself and spill your blood onto a mirror. Gaze into the mirror and say out loud that you are selling your soul for riches. After that you must open the door for my boys to go out,” read part of the message that allegedly had additional instructions on rites that Ngwenya was supposed to perform on the body.

Sources who told the Chronicle about the message said they freaked out and have not been able to eat or sleep, since the body was discovered on Wednesday morning.

Mr Ngwenya said Mazolo moved to Bulawayo from Harare just before the national Covid-19 induced lockdown.

He last saw Mazolo alive on May 29 when she said she was visiting someone in Sizinda suburb.

On June 1, he received a message from Mazolo’s phone informing him she would be away for about a week.

Tawana told him she could have visited friends after he discovered she had not been home since May 29.

He said Tawana disappeared from home on Tuesday when he asked him if he knew Mazolo’s whereabouts and he switched off his phone. “Thabelo’s phone had stopped ringing. On Wednesday there was a strong smell of something rotting from the main house. I called the police. We opened the door with a spare key and found the body in a blue drum in the toilet. It had been cut up and some of Thabelo’s clothes appeared to have been used to wipe up plenty of blood,” said Mr Ngwenya.

He said Tawana was the last of three children who was always quiet and had never shown homicidal tendencies.

Mr Benny Moyo, Mazolo’s uncle, said the family had tried to locate her when she suddenly became unreachable on her phone.

“I went to her workplace and each time I would be told she is busy or had just left. We are devastated to learn she has been killed. We hear the suspect was arrested in Harare today. We may have more information when the police complete investigations,” said Mr Moyo.

Miss Nomathemba Ndaba, Mr Ngwenya’s employer, choked on her words in an interview.

“At least Tawana who is suspected to have done this horrible thing has been arrested,” she said. “We are very sorry for Thabelo’s family but we want to warn young people against partaking in rituals. He may die in jail after this. Young people must be careful who they play with.”

Chronicle went on the ground yesterday and unearthed grisly details of what could have happened.

Tawana who did his O-Levels at Allan Wilson High School in Harare was said to be a loner. He allegedly borrowed a hacksaw from a neighbour on May 25 saying he wanted to prune some trees and cut a drum.

It is suspected the hacksaw was used to cut up the body.

Neighbours said around that time, he said he was looking for sulphuric acid.

He allegedly made inquiries at a company along Khami Road but was told it was out of stock.

Tawana’s colleagues said he seemed spooked and was reluctant to have them spend time at his home with him.

“He was acting weird. It was as if he expected someone to suddenly appear behind him and harm him. He was furtive and withdrew further into himself. When he left, he said he was going to Mutare. We heard a relative had seen him in Kadoma. We are all shocked that he killed someone,” said a friend who declined to be named.

There were heart-tugging moments when some neighbours burst into tears as they talked about Thabelo.

“We had known her for a short time but she was nice to all of us,” said a woman who asked not to be named.

“Tawana was slim and looked frail. If he did it, he could not have done it alone because Thabelo was significantly bigger than him. I doubt he could have lifted the body and put it into the acid drum by himself,” said the neighbour.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube said police were investigating the killing.

“The informant last saw the deceased on 29 May 2020 at around 11AM when she was going to town. On 1 June 2020 the now deceased sent a message to the informant advising him that she was going out of town and will be back on Sunday 7 June 2020,” said Inspector Ncube.

He said when Mr Ngwenya called the police, they found Thabelo’s body inside a blue 200 litre drum in the bathroom in a decomposed state.

The body was conveyed to the United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) for post mortem.

Byo Family Closes Out Its Family Member Who Escaped From Quarantine Centre

A BULAWAYO family barred a member from coming home after he had escaped from a local quarantine centre.

The family member, whose identity is being withheld by police, surrendered himself after life on the street became unbearable. He had absconded from the Bulawayo Polytechnic quarantine centre and found his way to the family home in Mzilikazi suburb home under the cover of darkness.

His family told him he was welcome only after he had finished his days in quarantine and was certified Covid-19 free.

The family members allegedly told him that they could not risk being infected with Covid-19, adding that there was also an elderly person who was of ill-health at home who was more vulnerable should she be infected with the virus.

The family alerted the police that he had left.

The escapee spent five days on the streets and when life became unbearable, he ended up going back to surrender himself to social welfare officers and police at Bulawayo Polytechnic quarantine centre and he was arrested.

He is among 11 other returnees who escaped from quarantine centres in Bulawayo recently.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirming the development yesterday, said after he was barred from home, the escapee lived on the streets for five days and finally decided to go back for quarantine.

“We have a case of an escapee from a quarantine centre in Bulawayo. He escaped from the Bulawayo Polyethnic quarantine centre. He was refused entry home by his family and was arrested days later by the police and taken to court after he had presented himself back at the quarantine centre,” said Assistant Commissioner Nyathi.

“We would like to commend the actions of the family for putting public health first and not allowing him to join the family without finishing his days on quarantine. If all of us act in such a manner, then the efforts to curb the spread of Covid-19 will yield more results.”

He urged people to love and care for one another by ensuring that they do not expose each other, especially community members more vulnerable to the virus such as the elderly and the sick, by obeying all Covid-19 regulations.

“Truly loving your family means that you will do whatever is possible to ensure that you do not put them at risk of contracting the disease. We can help each other if fewer of us are sick, but if we are reckless and infect each other then we can’t take care of each other if we are all sick. We urge members of the public to report any family members who sneak home after absconding from quarantine centres as these people are putting not only their families, but the rest of the community at risk of contracting Covid-19,” he said.

A total of 169 returnees have escaped from quarantine centres countrywide, posing challenges in efforts to reduce Covid-19 cases.

It is mandatory for all people returning to the country to be quarantined.

In recent weeks, most of the Covid-19 positive cases recorded in the country involve people returning mostly from South Africa, Botswana and Mozambique.

Family members and members of the public have been urged to report to the police, relatives or community members who evade mandatory quarantine as their actions may result in the spread of Covid-19.

Masks Must Have Three Tiers Of Material To Fully Prevent Covid-19 Transmission – Mahomva

State Media

Agnes Mahomva

While masks approved by the Standards Association of Zimbabwe (SAZ) would be ideal in preventing Covid-19 transmission, people who cannot afford these triple-layer masks should use what they have, but also practice good personal hygiene and social distancing.

The Chief Co-ordinator of the national response to the Covid-19 pandemic in the Office of the President and Cabinet, Dr Agnes Mahomva, said the Standards Association of Zimbabwe (SAZ) followed the latest guidelines and specifications of the World Health Organisation (WHO), especially the triple layer of cloth.

“We continue advising that if you want to buy a face mask, the ideal one would be those approved by SAZ because they meet the required standards,” she said.

“However, depending on available resources, people can use any other cloth mask, but again it should be noted and emphasised that face masks alone do not protect people from Covid-19.”

Public health specialist Dr Fortune Nyamande said in line with the latest guidelines, the country must devise ways of ensuring that face masks especially those sold in different outlets meet the required standards.

Dr Nyamande implored Government to adopt these new guidelines.

According to the latest guidelines, cloth masks should consist of at least three layers of different materials: an inner layer being an absorbent material like cotton, a middle layer of non-woven materials such as polypropylene (for the filter) and an outer layer, which is a non-absorbent material such as a polyester or a polyester blend.

“Fabric cloths, such as nylon blends and 100 percent polyester, when folded into two layers, provide 2-5 times increased filtration efficiency compared to a single layer of the same cloth and filtration efficiency increases 2-7 times if it is folded into four layers.

“Masks made of cotton handkerchiefs alone should consist of at least four layers, but have achieved only 13 percent filtration efficiency. Very porous materials, such as gauze, even with multiple layers will not provide sufficient filtration; only thee percent filtration efficiency,” read part of the new guidelines.

WHO’s Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the latest guidelines were based on academic research requested by WHO.

“Based on this new research, WHO advises that fabric masks should consist of at least three layers of different material. Details of which materials we recommend for each layer are in the guidelines,” he said.

Obadiah Moyo Appoints New Family Planning Board

State Media

Obadiah Moyo

The President has consented to the appointment of a 10-member board for the Zimbabwe National Family Planning Council (ZNFPC) chaired by medical practitioner, Dr Sylvester Nyatsuro.

The board, which was announced by Health and Child Care Minister Dr Obadiah Moyo on Wednesday comprises people with diverse skills from human resources, academia, health and sexual and reproductive health specialists.

Dr Nyatsuro will be deputised by Dr Stanzia Moyo, a research expert in sexual and reproductive health.

The other board members are; Mr David Mutizwa, Mrs Junior Mututu, Mr Tanyaradzwa Nyakatawa, Mrs Sharon Bwanya, Mr Dzikamai Rufu and Dr Munyaradzi Murwira (ex officio member).

Dr Moyo implored the members to maintain the ZNFPC’s integrity in provision of family planning services.

“We want Zimbabwe to remain on top of the situation as far as controlling teenage pregnancies, to increase the contraceptive prevalence rate, which currently stands at 68 percent,” he said.

“We want it to go up.”

Dr Nyatsuro said they will strive to maintain the ZNFPC standards, which are regionally recognised.

ZACC Questions Senior Ministry Of Finance Official On Drax Scandal

State Media

Ministry of Finance Permanent Secretary George Guvamatanga

Managers at the National Pharmaceutical Company (NatPharm) and Government officials were this week quizzed by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) during investigations into procurement, including Covid-19 protection equipment and test kits.

According to reports, the Ministry of Finance Permanent Secretary George Guvamatanga and Natpharm Managing director and a senior official from the Procurement Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (PRAZ) were summoned by the commission.

ZACC chairperson Justice Loice Matanda-Moyo confirmed yesterday that investigations were still in progress and said no one had been charged yet.

“This week our investigators interviewed a number of officials over alleged irregular procurement of drugs. They were asked questions before going back to their homes. We are still investigating, and after information gathering, we will then make a decision on whether or not there was any criminal conduct. After that, we may have to decide on who should be charged,” said Justice Matanda-Moyo.

This comes as Government has ordered NatPharm to cancel all contracts for the supply and delivery of medicines and surgical sundries by Drax Consulting SAGL.

In a letter on Friday last week to NatPharm managing director Mrs Flora Sifeku, acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Child Care Dr Gibson Mhlanga ordered the cancellation on Treasury instructions and further ordered that NatPharm must today be ready to present evidence of the cancellation.

“You are being directed to cancel all contracts that you had with Drax SAGL with immediate effect. Please be advised that this process needs to be completed by latest Friday June 12, 2020 and all documentation showing cancellation of the same to be submitted in my office by then. Please treat this issue with the urgency that it requires,” wrote Dr Mhlanga.

Dr Mhlanga confirmed the cancellation of the contracts, adding that he was following instructions from Treasury but declined to go into detail.

Mrs Sifeku confirmed having received the letter, but could not give further comment.

Represented by Mr Delish Nguwaya in Zimbabwe, Drax SAGL entered into an agre1ement with Government for the supply and delivery of medicines and consumables worth US$20 million.

The drugs started coming into the country at the beginning of the year in batches.

Later this year, Drax SAGL was awarded an additional tender to provide Covid-19 supplies and was subsequently given preferential treatment for the release of its Covid-19 emergency medical supplies that were stuck at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport.

There were concerns the company was allegedly overpricing its Covid-19 supplies.

After negotiations between Government and Drax SAGL officials over one bill of nearly US$1 million, an agreement was thrashed that the bill come down to about US$660 000.

Finance and Economic Permanent Secretary Development George Guvamatanga told a Parliamentary portfolio committee dealing with his ministry a few days before the cancellation order that as part of its statutory duties his ministry checked each Government procurement order to see if Zimbabwe was getting value for money before approving payment.

While Treasury did not raise the procurement orders nor did it choose what was ordered or choose suppliers, it did do the final checks over the value being given and would cancel orders that did not seem to give value for money.

The Long And Short Of It Is That Govt Has Abolished Lobola

State Media

Ziyambi Ziyambi

Payment of bride price will no longer be regarded as a barrier in solemnising marriage between two consenting adults if they satisfy other requirements of the law, a Cabinet Minister has said.

Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi said Government had noted that some guardians were commodifying the institution of marriage and were sometimes withholding their consent until the full bride price had been paid.

Minister Ziyambi said this on Wednesday while presenting the Marriages Bill in the Senate, which went through the National Assembly last week.

“The transfer of marriage consideration (lobola) in our indigenous culture traditionally solidified bonds between families, but a disturbing trend has developed over time to commoditise or monetise the marriage relationship for material gain,” he said.

“Some guardians of brides hold out for the highest possible gain for themselves, while others refuse consent to the formalisation of marriage until the last cent of the marriage consideration is paid.

“This is why so many of our customary and non-customary marriages are unregistered. To solve this issue, the Bill will no longer require a customary marriage officer to satisfy himself or herself that there has been an agreement on the transfer of marriage consideration.”

Minister Ziyambi said the Bill did not seek to abolish lobola.

“If the parties do agree on the transfer of such consideration the Registrar (of Marriage) is under obligation to record it when registering the marriage to minimise disputes about the terms of such agreements,” he said.

Minister Ziyambi said the Bill sought to protect children borne out of unregistered customary law unions when one or both of them contracted a registered marriage with another person.

He said it was for that reason that Government came up with a civil partnership provision, which he said was introduced in good faith, but had since been rejected at the instigation of some religious groups who felt it encouraged “small houses,” a colloquial term for extra-marital or unrecognised unions.

Mnangagwa’s Proclamation Of National Day Of Fasting, A Reflection Of The Highest Level Of Blasphemy

Analysts say Zimbabwe’s listening President no longer listens and anyone who opposes him is either silenced through arrests and torture.

LIVE: The Girls Abducted the 2nd Time At Harare Central Police Station | FULL TEXT.

By Henry Chimbiri | Good day every concerned citizen of Zimbabwe and neighbours of our surrounding countries herein concerned: l would want to tell you that as a parent of the three girls, l am a witness to what happened on Wednesday 10th June 2020. I saw it with my own eyes in broad daylight: The three girls were almost snatched or kidnapped by State agents and so called police in uniform at their lawyers’ premises without a notice, an Order of the courts or a Warrant to ascertain a charge of allegation which they still haven’t told us up to 12noon Thursday.

https://youtu.be/XyltQy1Avtw

The three girls Joana Mamombe, Cecilia Chimbiri and Netsai Marova are locked up in cells here at Harare Central Police Station. I witness the truth of how in the first instance the three girls were abducted by police details still at large in the presence of police officers at a Roadblock at the Showgrounds site location in Harare, at around 1608hrs after having left the court at Rotten Row where the three with their lawyer had gone to submit their Passports as per the Bailout condition.

The next port of call was the lawyers’ premises in Belvedere where the girls where supposed to sign some detail Affidavits. Just by 1620hrs, the gates were forced open, and the Gateman alerted the lawyers of intruders or tresspassers. I was still sat in the vehicle when l saw almost 10 plain clothed policemen and over 20 so called uniformed officers in Riot gear. When I looked outside, it was as if there was a flash appearance of a Car sales plot of vehicles without number plates; a few with number plates. The detailed officers demanded to have the girls from the lawyers who also asked the so called officers why they were in the hoods in the premises without an Order or Permission to enter. The officers who made the demands, some were smelling alcohol and wanted to snatch the girls by force. The entire office (lawyer’s) premises were filed by more plain clothed police personnel behind the covid-19 mask and some without. There was a manhandling of the girls from the car they were in with their lawyer Mr Jeremiah Bamu. It was a horrendous experience for the girls and the parents as well as the lawyers.

Latest luxury vehicles like the new mercedes benz (C200, 2010 model), BMWs Toyota Hiluxes unplated, Quantum buses and many other had flooded the road and premises.

I imagined how the three girls, Joana, Cecilia and Netsai were abducted in the first place which is now being referred by Kazembe Kazembe as fake. It is not fake. l SAW IT ON WEDNESDAY WITH MY OWN EYES. If l was not there as a parent and had refused to listen to their fake allegations and arresting demands, for sure the girls would have been NO MORE BY NOW.

THE INTENTION WAS TO SNATCH AND DISAPPEAR WITH THEM. The lawyers did not retreat and warned and cautioned the officers to behave as per the police charter and Constitution. The lawyer advised to take the girls himsef to Harare Central police station. The officers insisted to want to snatch the girls (see video of the hulabaloo at offices.) Finally the lawyer managed to protect the girls up to the station in his vehicle. It was hell at the Central Police Station after reaching the backside through the prohibited boomgate for the public where again for the last time, they disappeared.

They wanted to load the girls in the Toyota Quatum vehicles and the girls and parents could not have none of it and demanded through noise to be shot and killed right there in the police [station].

The lawyers and the parents were manhandled, as the parents were trying to protect their daughters from another second naked brutal abduction at the boomgate. The girls were later taken to the obscure Law and Order section together with their five lawyers. The police officer in charge who refused to give his name, failed to give the lawyers the charge sheet. But all this happened after a press Conference by Kazembe Kazembe who initially accused the girls for what he termed a fake abduction.

The same has happened and was going to happen in the worst case scenario of disappearance and death. Please note- What happened at the Showgrounds at a Roadblock was repeated and only failed to materialise because the lawyers and parents decompressed the satanic plan that was hatched by the Police Law and Order section. The other police officers of the well known information and Inquiries Desk (real police) did not know why the girls were being harassed and assaulted inside the station by rioting police force. Up until 11 pm there was no charge laid against the three girls. Up to Thursday 1400hrs there was no charge laid against the three. There appears to be a strategy of some delaying tactics to have the girls sleep over again for the second night without a charge justifying why they were arrested. In fact l just don’t understand where on earth a person is arrested before an investigation is done. After all these three girls are on $1,000 Bailout and were suppose to report on Friday which is per the agreed reporting conditions. If the police so wanted, another 2nd allegation count would still meet them on 13 August on the court day. The police took all their passports and deprived them their rights after torturing them. The Police must come out clear who they are. Are they the police or shadow police called Nihilist police or another terror group. Something is not proper. There now appears to be a full vase of No Rule of Law. Up to now as l write to inform you at 1500hrs there was still no Charge found or even laid. Trying to create matter which no man can create. May God remove the Police Knee on our Necks, George Floyd was murdered by police in the same style being used by the police force here. Amen

Caps United Boss Under Pressure To Step Down

BELGIUM-based former Caps United player Cephas Chimedza has called for the club’s vice-president Nhamo Tutisani to step down.

Tutisani came close to being manhandled by a group of players at his offices in Harare on Tuesday after a fallout over unpaid salaries.

The players and the Harare businessman exchanged harsh words and insults after the players confronted him demanding their outstanding dues. The players claim they have not been paid for two months.

The stand-off is reportedly over $480 000 Caps United received from NetOne upon termination of their sponsorship deal.

NetOne terminated their sponsorship, saying it wants to redirect its corporate social responsibility to fighting Covid-19.

This also affected Highlanders, who the mobile network operator was also sponsoring.

The Caps players wanted the termination settlement to be used to pay their salaries. The money is enough to cover about two months of their salaries.

The players claimed they had heard from their Bosso colleagues that they had been paid part of their dues after the club received the same amount after termination of their deal that was supposed to end next year.

The Caps players received a tongue-lashing from Tutisani, who threatened winger Phineas Bhamusi and striker John Zhuwawu with expulsion from the club.

Chimedza believes Tutisani is no longer fit to remain in office following his public relations disaster.

“In a normal and serious setup, the vice-president will be expected to step down.

Whatever the situation, the club should communicate well with the players and always find a solution. It’s high time he (Tutisani) gets exposed.

Players can’t continue being treated like that. Then they expect the corporate world to be involved,” Chimedza tweeted-Chronicle

Full Text: MDC Alliance Statement On “Defection” Of Party Officials

47 Gonyeti Drivers Arrested For “Breaching Lockdown Regulations”

At least 47 drivers have been arrested for ferrying passengers in violation of Covid-19 lockdown regulations, with grain millers warning drivers that they face a mandatory 21-day quarantine.

The Police National Traffic Unit has been deployed to account for such drivers.
Some of the culprits were fined, while others are expected to appear in court soon.

In a statement, national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi warned drivers against violating the law.

“Since March 30 to date, a total of 47 truck drivers have been arrested,” he said.

“We are, however, warning haulage truck and private vehicle drivers who are ferrying people between cities, within cities, and even some border jumpers that it is a criminal offence.

“Besides being a criminal offence, this act poses a risk to the Government’s efforts to fight the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Police checkpoints, roadblocks and patrols have been activated to account for such drivers. Haulage trucks should stick to their mandate of transporting cargo from one point to the other. Transport companies are implored to take action against errant drivers.”

Asst Comm Nyathi said the traffic officers were patrolling on the roads checking driver’s licences as some were driving without proper documents.

Police have also impounded unregistered vehicles that were on the roads, amid reports that some drivers were removing registration number plates to engage in criminal activities or ferry passengers.

Removing the number plates is a way of evading police so that the drivers cannot be tracked.

Police have arrested 62 801 people countrywide since March 30 for violating lockdown measures, with the bulk of them paying deposit fines.

Offences ranged from failure to wear masks, liquor-related offences and for violating the Road Traffic Act, unnecessary movements, illegal gatherings, opening businesses without proper documentation and violating the Miscellaneous Offences Act.

In the case of drivers ferrying maize from South Africa to Zimbabwe who travel with their girlfriends, the Grain Millers Association of Zimbabwe (GMAZ) said they risked being quarantined and prosecuted.

GMAZ media and public relations manager Mr Garikai Chaunza said in a statement that they had been alerted of the unacceptable behaviour.

“The Government of Zimbabwe has communicated its concerns to us with regards the conduct of most of your truck drivers who tend to travel in pairs with the opposite gender outside the scope of their duties and also carry passengers for monetary benefit,” he said-The Herald

Macheso Celebrates Birthday In Style
