A top ZANU (PF) official has declared war on journalists for ‘tarnishing’ the indigenization policy and ‘driving away’ investors.
Deputy Industry and Commerce Minister Chiratidzo Iris Mabuwa shocked reporters and business delegates on Thursday who she was addressing in Harare, when she said the low uptake of the empowerment laws was caused by journalists who were reporting negatively about it.
The Indigenization laws were enacted in 2007 and since then their implementation remains contested.
According to the laws foreign nationals intending to invest  in the country are required to cede 51% of their stake to locals.
“These fellow black Zimbabwean journalists who are looking at me right now, you should see what they write about the black indigenization law, they plough it,” she accused reporters covering the event.
“Now I come and tell you, own the means of production and then you just write negative about it, do you want me to say shame on you, I can say that”.
The Mberengwa South legislator said was angry with journalists who wanted to reverse the gains of the liberation struggle using the pen.
“Ndine hurombo zvikuru munoda kufa muri varombo. isu takupai mukana, takanowurirwa, wokuti mutora zvinhu imi makunyora zvisiri izvo ( I feel pity for ,and you want to die poor.We are giving you the chance to empower yourselves but you are denying that chance and choose to tarnish the image of the country through negative reportage)”.
“You are planting the wrong seed for your children and grandchildren, musazviite izvozvo ndozotsamwa (stop it before I get angry),” she threatened.

  3. The minister should note that ZPF tarnished the indigenisation process all by them selves. Zim is tarnished due to destructive and greedy policies. ZPF STOP blaming everyone else and go and take a long hard look at yourselves in the mirror.
