Bulawayo’s top businessman and former educationist, Clemence Kunzekweguta, was Thursday afternoon left for dead when his Isuzu twin cab was hit by a mysterious vehicle. The horror was such that the man’s car veered off the road and rolled on its own body three times before landing on its roof along Nkayi strip highway, the road that leads to Vice President Phelekezela’s Mphoko’s home.
Kunzekweguta who was travelling with a business friend to officiate at the NAPH schools competitions, which were taking place at Nkayi high school, in Bubi district was taken to Nkayi General Hospital for treatment.
Kunze is a founder and Director of ZERO Supplies, which operates several Book shops in and around Bulawayo. When ZimEye.com visited the scene of the accident, which is about 18 kilometres from Nkayi business centre, Police were still attending to the vehicle which was ferrying stationery and food for the event.
In an interview with Police who were at the scene, the vehicle which caused the accident sped off and never stopped to assist the victims. They also told ZimEye.com that investigations to locate the vehicle are under way.
Speaking to ZimEye.com in his bandages, Kunzekweguta said that he was well, but shaken by the accident that nearly claimed his life.
“I am ok as you can see, but we nearly died, because we rolled three times before landing into these bushes, where the car is. The vehicle that instigated our near fatal accident did not stop, but sped off the scene,” said a visibly shaken Kunze.
Nkayi’s main highway has been a strip tarred road since the Rhodesian era, and has never been serviced to date. The road is also the only highway that leads to Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko’s rural home.
