By Terrence Mawawa, Masvingo|A 34-year old Gutu based policewoman has appeared in court after her husband accused her of deliberately infecting him with HIV.
The case was heard before Masvingo magistrate Collet Ncube who adjourned the matter to April 5.
It is alleged that sometime between December 2007 and December 2015, the female cop infected her husband who is a teacher in Gutu with the deadly virus when the two repeatedly had unprotected sex.
The policewoman knew she was HIV positive and she was already taking Anti-Retroviral drugs without informing her husband, papers allege.
The female cop pleaded not guilty and said her husband contracted the HIV virus in 2006 when the two briefly separated.
“I tested HIV positive in 2010 when I got pregnant and I started taking ARVs in 2013. I even encouraged him to go for tests but he kept on evading the issue,” she said.
The husband is also accusing the policewoman of tricking him into looking after a child she claimed he was the father.
The court also heard the policewoman altered the birth records for the second and third child respectively -from HIV positive to HIV negative.
The husband is demanded $10 000 compensation for the trauma he experienced after being allegedly infected with HIV by the policewoman.
