A 27-YEAR-OLD Victoria Falls woman was yesterday ordered to perform 280 hours of community service for stabbing her husband with a kitchen knife following a domestic brawl.
Tracy Moyo of Mkhosana high-density suburb was convicted on her own plea of guilty when she appeared before Victoria Falls resident magistrate, Rangarirai Gakanje charged with physical abuse.
The court heard that on July 12 last year, Moyo’s husband Zamani Sibanda (33) arrived home from Chinotimba and found his wife away from home. She arrived a few minutes later, and a fierce quarrel ensued after Sibanda asked about her whereabouts.
Moyo, in a fit of rage, stabbed him several times on the right leg. Sibanda was then rushed to hospital for medication, leading to Moyo’s arrest.
In her defence, Moyo said Sibanda caused her to lose her temper after he labelled her a prostitute.
“I admit to the charge, but he is the one who started to slap and punch me accusing me of being a prostitute. He then took the knife from the kitchen to stab me, and as l was trying to take it away it accidentally stabbed him on his right leg,” she said.
Moyo was initially sentenced to 10 months imprisonment before eight months were suspended on condition of good behaviour and the remaining two months were commuted to 280 hours community service at Victoria Falls Magistrates’ Court.-Agencies
