By Chrispen Tabvura|The leader of Zapu, Dumiso Dabengwa has attacked his former boss, the late Dr Joshua Nkomo, accusing him of reneging and prematurely giving in to (Robert Mugabe) ZANLA demands and leaving them compromised, in the acceleration of events that led to the signing of the 1987 Unity Accord.
Dabengwa was speaking in retrospect, during the memorial service of the late ZIPRA commander, Lookout Masuku, at an event organised by Ibhetshu lika Zulu.
Lieutenant-General Lookout Khalisabantu Vumindaba Masuku, affectionately known as Mafela died on 5 April 1986 at Parirenyatwa Hospital, in Harare after succumbing to cryptococcal meningitis.
“Our leaders did not do justice to us, as they failed to update us on the reneging tactics displayed by our ZANLA colleagues. They opted to be diplomatic and this led us to where we are, in abject poverty and our reputation in shambles,” said Dabengwa.
Going further he added saying: “the history for the liberation is also totally distorted and without the mentioning of ZIPRA, as if we did not fight for the freedom of Zimbabweans. We are now acting as if we are shadows of freedom fighting, our children are deprived of the true history.”
Speaking on the same forum, the controversial former Minister of National Healing and Reconciliation, Moses Mzila Ndlovu, called for the removal of all Shona names on Bulawayo streets to replace them with the names of Ndebele freedom fighters.
“We need to have all streets named after Shona freedom fighters in Bulawayo renamed, especially Robert Mugabe way be renamed after our Ndebele fighters, who have been down played and suppressed,” charged an emotional Mzila.
“Baba Dabengwa, I am going to tell the truth and will always die telling the truth. The Shona speaking people in ZANU PF never liked Ndebeles from ZAPU. They designed the grand plan to eliminate all Ndebele activists and their leaders, which they did when they forced Joshua Nkomo into exile,” Ndlovu said.
He went further to assert, “after that they locked you Baba Dabengwa and Lookout Masuku on trumped up charges and later released you after the Unity accord, which was agreed after the massacre of more than 20 000 Ndebele speaking people.”

In essence, the Shonas who were celebrating after the elimination of PF ZAPU have come to regret their actions since they are now in dire straits despite celebrating ZANU PF’s victory in 1980.
As the then strongest opposition party; had PF ZAPU survived, ZANU PF would have never gotten this far in destroying the country. Now all these Shonas have now followed us Mthwakazi people and run away to South Africa, Botswana, and the UK.
That is exactly what happens when a people allow themselves to be misled by the tribalistic leadership of Robert Mugabe instead of a nation building ones like Joshua Nkomo!
