Terrence Mawawa, Zaka | Disgruntled students at the Roman Catholic run St Antonys’ (Musiso) High School are pushing for the immediate resignation or transfer of troubled head, Immaculate Tinago following the violent attacks on a pupil and also a string of alleged corruption and maladministration acts.
The pupils have organised themselves into a militant group named Santos Boko Haram to push for the head’s resignation or transfer.
Sources at the school told ZimEye.com that anonymous letters have been written to the head’s office indicating there would be widespread protests at the school.
An A Level student at the school Kundai Makado was severely beaten up by one of the teachers, (name withheld). She sustained serious bloody injuries as result of the assault .The and students at the school are irate with the fact that Tinago is protecting the teacher who bashed Makado.
“Tinago flouted tender procedures and she spends much of her time away from school. In addition, she did not take action against a teacher who bashed an A Level student. So we will not rest until she leaves the school,” said a source.
Tinago speaking in response, said she had reported the matter to the DEO and declined to divulge further details.
“The matter is being handled by the DEO so I cannot say much on the issue. You can go to the DEO for further clarity,” Tinago told ZimEye.
Masvingo Provincial Education Director Zedias Chitiga said he was waiting for an official report from the Zaka DEO. “I have received a report about the disturbances at Musiso but I am waiting for a detailed report from the DEO. We will act on the matter as soon as we get comprehensive details,” said Chitiga.
