Valid point… he lost his ministerial position…and he could not recover from the stress… there are some very serious stresses that might come…

By Farai D Hove| Some former ministers are now infected by the disease of depression to the last point of failing to recover.

This was revealed by the Speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda. He said a relative of his is struggling to adjust to life outside the luxuries of a cabinet minister after he lost his job.

He spoke in response to Musikavanhu MP Mr Prosper Mutseyami (MDC-T) who had suggested there was need to capacitate Parliament’s clinic to offer counselling services, particularly to former ministers who had lost their jobs.

Mudenda said, “I think that is a valid point to some extent. I have a cousin who lost his ministerial position and he became so stressed up that in the end, he could not recover from the stress.

“So, we will make some arrangements but there are some very serious stresses that might come when you do not win at your constituencies.

“Now for that one, unfortunately we may not provide services because you will not be part of the system.”

FULL TEXT:

HON. MUTSEYAMI: There is the second one. Thank you Mr. Speaker Sir. First and foremost, Mr. Speaker Sir, is that I wish everyone a merry Christmas but my bigger issue is to do with our clinic here. Maybe for the Ninth Parliament as we go along, if we could have this
clinic well equipped system with regards to managing of stress and all
that – the counseling department is not there.

Currently, we have had challenges as Parliament, as the Eighth
Parliament whereby we have had people who have been moved from positions and all that and people have gone through a lot of challenges, pressure, stress and blood pressure. It is very professional for this arm of Government of Parliament to have an institution which is supposed to deal with these challenges or these kinds of trauma in terms of stress
through a counseling department so that people will understand that
once they lose positions, they are supposed to be back benchers.

As we speak, there are some people who cannot understand why they are in new positions and they do not understand that they are back benchers due to lack of counseling. So, it is important to address the counseling department.

THE HON. SPEAKER: Order, order. I think that is a valid point to some extent. I have a cousin who lost his ministerial position and he became so stressed up that in the end, he could not recover from the stress. So, we will make some arrangements but there are some very
serious stresses that might come when you do not win at your constituencies. – [Laughter.] –

Now for that one, unfortunately we may not provide services because you will not be part of the system.

  1. It really shows how misguided these parliamentarians are. Surely, how can person representing a constituency raise such an issue for discussion when people are suffering. Don’t we have counseling institutions dotted all over Zimbabwe? What’s so special about those incompetent ministers. The assistance they might require are addresses for those that offer counseling service. Otherwise, to hell with them. They have caused more suffering to the people of Zimbabwe. I also request the President to put competent ministers. We have people with a poor track record that again have been included in the new cabinet. The likes of Parirenyatwa and Obert Mpofu. What is it that they have done to Zimbabwe which warrants them to be ministers. The health system crumbled under Parirenyatwa while the mines and transport ministries did nothing under Mpofu. Look at the road network. Potholes all over. Remember that Mpofu promised a high speed train for Byo-Hre at one stage. We don’t want people that promise heaven on earth for the sole reason of getting votes. What a lair. And now he is minister of Home Affairs. What a joke. He is already talking of latest technology for the police. What technology and when. Day dreaming. Let’s us address the fundamental issues first. Let’s be realistic if we need to move forward. Otherwise we are just wasting time.

  2. Zimbabwean politicians should learn survival skills, carpentry, woodwork, building, farming, writing etc. Do not take politics as a profession that is the reason why our country has failed. If possible we should come up with legislation that does not allow ministers to run for more than two terms. It is a shame to have minsters serving for 37 years without any meaning development.

  3. The MDC MP will join the ex-ministers in six months times, for MDC leaders too have nothing to show for their days in power.

  4. I would like to personally welcome the ex-ministers and and ex-MP to the real world of grinding poverty that 3/4 of our people have been forced to live thanks to the decades of Zanu PF misrule. These politicians have pointed refused to listen to the stories of growing poverty. It is heartening that these politicians will get a chance to know what it is like to live on US$ 1.00 or less a day. There is poetic justice in this!

  5. Why would we feel sorry for people who made majority of Zimbabweans suffer. Mudenda should be looking at coming up with council programs focused on helping majority of Zimbabweans who have lost their loved ones due to economic hardship, poor health system , and lack of sound compassionate doctors, nurses and allied medical professionals. Many Zimbabweans have developed mental illness as well. Who is councilling those unfortunate individuals. It just goes to show these Parliamentary fools do not care whatsoever for the ordinary Zimbabwean but themselves.

Those extremely selfish and stupid ministers these fools are feeling sorry for are all responsible for the rot that beset Zimbabwe. If we are to be just, we need to start thinking of those who suffered while those former ministers were on the gravy train and let them suffer so they see and feel how every Ordinary Zimbabwean felt.

It’s extremely disappointing that some of the dead horses have been appointed ministers again. Honestly what is Parirenyatwa going to implement to change our health system today when he has failed over the past years. Its just ridiculous.
