The government will not lift the ban on the importing of eggs despite the shortage that has hit the Zimbabwean market.

Officials in the Ministry of Industry and Commerce yesterday said the government would not lift the ban on the importing of eggs and other basic commodities as a way of protecting the local industry from foreign competition.

“We will not lift the ban on the importing of eggs. I do not think the ban will be lifted at this juncture,” said an official in the Ministry.The Ministry of Industry and Commerce has also placed stringent requirements for those wish to obtain import permits.
