By Eric Mumba| Harare’s water treatment situation has improved, the outgoing Harare mayor has said.

Speaking on the sidelines of his last public speech as mayor, His Worship Ben Mnanyenyeni told ZimEye.com, ” well, it has definitely improved; in terms of quality, in terms of volume. We were doing just over 300 mega litres per day. We have [now] been averaging over 500 mega litres per day, so that is a measurable improvement. There has also been improvement in quality to an extent possible”

He however sounded out that there are still challenges. He said, there are still issues pertaining leakages. There are still issues pertaining corroded pipes which affect quality, but I am happy that there has been improvement.”

Manyenyeni also spoke on the issue of suitability of councillors. He said”like I said in August 2015, we need at least one one third of the councillors, at least one third of the councillors must be able to present professional credentials.”

He added saying this is the only way council can move forward. “They must present professional credentials in certain key areas, in certain specialisations; That’s the only way we can move forward,” he said. SEE VIDEO:
