Too big for presidency Dumiso Dabengwa

By Paul Nyathi|The Dumiso Dabengwa led ZAPU says that the position of the country’s presidency is too cheap for their leader thats why they ceded it to the young MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa.

This was said by the party National Spokesperson Iphithule Maphosa in a statement defending his party’s position on opting out from contesting the upcoming presidential election.

“Since being President was cheapened by Mnangagwa in November of 2017, the revolutionary ZAPU saw prudence in protecting its Number 1 Dumiso Dabengwa (DD) from joining a bandwagon of cheap aspirants for the highest office in the land,” he said in an official Facebook comment.

Maphosa said his party will contest presidency in 2023 elections after backing Chamisa in the 2018 elections.

“When the office of President of Zimbabwe regains its dignity in 2023, a young, fresh and pragmatic aspirant will be forwarded by ZAPU. Meanwhile we support Nelson Chamisa,” said Maphosa.

His statement comes following a barrage of attacks from some ZAPU supporters who felt hard done by the decision to withdraw Dabengwa and back Chamisa.
